I don't have one myself, but I always hear good things about battlefoam. Sabol is also good.
Don't get a gw case. I have one and wish I'd gone with anything else.

Probably Sabol or Battlefoam.
Otherwise, if you already use a GW case, Kaiser Rushforth (KR) do spare trays (so does Battlefoam).

Here's what i do... I went into a auto store and bought an aluminium tool box (I removed the space for tools and the divders) . It cost me $50.
Then i bought my foam from KR multicase.
Basically i got a 1 and 1/4 case. A normal aluminium case plus enough room for an extra troop tray, templates and dice.

I use a Fat Max toolbox lined with foam trays from a sabol transport holds 3 Soul Grinders fully built with plenty of room for infantry and others. Cost me about 50 bucks for the toolbox including the foam.

Look into ' Kaiser Rushforth'.
They're popular with the Gamers I know, and are highly recommended; in fact, I'm going to picking up a Case and Trays for my new army! (Imperial Fists First Co. )
They're also very cost-effective.

I use the GW cases for my D&D miniatures (mostly Reaper minis). They're OK for that purpose. Some of the minis are a little loose and I've had to repair some of my larger minis.
A friend of mine has a Sabol case for his Tau and likes it just fine. It was a step up from the GW hard cases.
I bought a Battlefoam 1520 for my Black Templar Army and enjoy it immensely. The friend that had the sabol case was shopping around for his new Blood Angels army. After comparing my battlefoam to his Sabol, he picked up the 720 at GenCon. Take from that what you will.

There's a quick and easy method of determining whether a model case was designed by someone who knows what they're doing: if the trays stay horizontal at all times, you're good. Avoid any case where the trays stand on their side.

Having the ability to personalize the space in your foam is a huge plus, also the prices are decent...I would definately go battle foam. For now though a close second is using Rhino/Land Raider boxes and taping my characters to the bottom of the box (masking tape).

I love my PACK1520, although it can be cumbersome if using public transport. A friend bought the super-wide GW case ... one of the clasps broke the first time he closed it up. He was not impressed.

I have metal KR cases and foam and they do the trick at a low price which is why I have voted other.
I will admit the Battlefoam bags are the best quality of the choices given [and I do prefer canvas type bags]. Didn't buy one as there are very dear for what you get and I really didn't want a green bag [all they sold at the time].

Do what I did--
1) Buy a nice piece of max carry on size luggage. Luggage is large, durable, has great zippered compartments for codex, gaming materials, and more convenient--get a nice one with wheels and an extendable handle. No hassles with carry on sizes--it's designed to travel.
2) Google "foam" in your city. Find a place that sells high quality foam and get it custom cut to the exact size of the inside of your luggage. Get 1" for infantry, 2" for bigger models, 3"for tanks. Then get a 1/2" piece for each insert. Buy spray adhesive for foam from the store.
3) Measure the dimensions of the pieces you want to carry. Trace them on the foam inserts. Cut them out. Spray the adhesive on the cut out part. Attach the 1/2" backing tray.
Now you have a great looking bag that can carry way more models than a standard case. It was cheaper to make, will last longer, and you did it yourself. Also, if you want to take a trip, take out the trays, pack your underwear and a bottle of gin--off you go.
Seriously, it's easy. No need to spend $30.00 to cut a tray with LAZZORS. If you can carve a turkey, you can do this.
P.S The main reason I did it was that I don't like the idea of sporting a logo on my bag.

A lot also depends on where you're at in the world. Just in this thread, you will see a lot of guys from the UK talking about the KR cases. They sound good, but I think are distributed a lot more over in the Uk than in the US. Similarly, Battlefoam doesn't have as many sellers in the UK, and shipping across the pond can be expensive. I'm not sure about Sabol in UK/Europe, but obviously GW is all over the world. I'm in the US, and carry Battlefoam, GW, Sabol, as my main cases, with some outrider trays, the reaper case, and a few other specialized trays people make. But I don't have a distributor for the KR cases.
For quality and versitility, Battle Foam is the winner hands down. If you have to factor price in as a variable, it changes the equation. If you have an all infantry army, the GW cases are great. A couple of tanks in a small army, Sabol is pretty good.
I've got 20 or so GW cases at home with figures, and about 12 of the old chessex cases. Good for storing all my older figures. My newer stuff is generally highly converted and a lot of forgeworld. When I travel to a tournament I'm taking some larger, fragile models, with a lot of time put into them. For that I use one of the new BattleFoam 1520s with a couple of packplus zipped on top. I really love it, and it delivers fragile Megadreads to the tabletop with no breakage. Amazing how they are unstoppable weapons of war on the table, and stupidly fragil resin models while in the back of my van.) At this point in my modeling, I put way too much time into figures to want them getting busted up. I really hate the pre-game "Who has Glue!!?" phase of a tournament. That goes double for something like Games Day. The last two years my club has taken 1500 painted models down to Baltimore, and you don't have a lot of time to fix things before the doors open up. For Chicago we are taking an even larger display, and have to travel 13 hours not 1.5, so I expect I'll be using more 1520s in the future.

I voted Battlefoam. You pay a premium but you get a high quality product for that price. Most of my armies right now are in Sabol cases mainly because I tend to build an army, use it for a few months and then sell/trade it off and begin another project.
My demon army, which continues to expand will be put into custom battlefoam cases soon as I plan on keeping the army and would like to give them a great case.
I do not like GW cases at all.

personally i use Vanity/beuty cases i got on ebay. cost £50/$80 and you can use the dividers to section parts off, you can makeor buy foam to customize the large sections and they look really professional at a very good price and when you change your army you just move bits around, your not stuck with very specific foam that cost alot.

I have two limited edition 2009 Tobruk cases from Feldherr. Those are by far the best case I've seen.
Strangely enough, nobody mentioned Feldherr yet, though, but maybe it's more common in Europe than the US.

Battlefoam probably make the most 'custom' set, and their stuff is very rugged, but it's also incredibly expensive.
I use KR's basic 'kaiser' cardboard cases and they store a huge amount of stuff in a very small space, for much less money (a basic case with your choice of foam is around £20). I've heard that their aluminium ones are good too.
