EDIT - This blog stated off as PDH - Odds and Ends - Random 40k and Fantasy Models but seems to have turned into a Inq28 blog from page 2/3 onwards. So I have renamed it.

Hi Guys,

Well I started painting my Necromunda Scaly with speargun last weekend and I felt I was rushing him. Which is never a good thing, so I put him down. A few days later I was in the mood to paint again....but something different. Decided to paint the Snikrot model my girlfriend got me for Valentine's day (2009 ) So I thought I'd create a new thread for random models I've painted/I'm painting. I hope you like it...

Snakebite Nob WIP

edit finished June 14

Well I had to convert him so I went with my favourite Ork Clan... Snakebites. I'm not sure about the tau sept ochre plates? What do you guys think? I will add some damage if I don't change the colour.

A few other models I've painted over the last couple of years. I'll put some more up in a few days.

My favourite FW model. The skulls came out so much better than expected. I'm also pleased with the Daemon Axe.

The new Minotaurs blew me away when I saw them. I painted this one up to test out a metal technique. I had to watch a load of Arnie films while painting this beast up.

Nurlge Marauder Sorcerer - He leads my Nurlge cultists (count as marauders). Now I'm stuck in the past where the Warhammer World is at the centre of the Eye of Terror or is it the Maelstrom. So a chainsword is a perfectly reasonable weapon for a chaos warrior....if you cannot move past Slaves to Darkness and The Lost and The Damned Damn you GW

Does anyone have any hints or suggestions as to what size pictures should be to look good in thread? (I've just answered my own question......... I realised I had Opera zoomed in to 160% )

Peter

Always good to see more PDH stuff!
I think the ochre on the ork works fine. Stick with it!

I like the Tausept on the Ork's plates, but bit of damage and chipping would probably make them stand out more.

Also, although you answered your own question on pic size, it depends on the pic itself. I usually preview every pic I post just to be sure it's an appropriate size.

Thanks for commenting chaps. So it looks ok, reassuring... I'll probably do some appropriately contrasting coloured dags on the shoulder plates to break them up a bit. 2nd ed Ork Codex came in handy after all those years. Well painting will have to wait l I had better go to work.....wish I could stay home and paint

I forgot to post this pic with the Sorcerer... I think he makes more sense with it

Nurlge Culists (count as marauders)

Cheers

Peter

I remember when I used to have to go to work. Now I'm on maternity leave and I have lots of time to paint 'cause my son is such an easy baby. Give him a bottle, blanket and prop him up next to me and he's good to go giving me a few 3-4 hr chunks of painting time.

I'm a fan of Orks and Minotuars to begin but I definitely like the others. You're a good painter. The Nurgle Cultists' weapons look like the weapons from the Empire Flagallents (sp?). Are they?

Bunnygurl - Ouch...rubbing not going to work in my face though admittedly you had to go through labour pains for it and I wouldn't want that ever You're lucky your son likes to sit and watch his mummy paint. I work with mothers and children on a daily basis so enjoy it while it lasts...he will learn how to run soon

Thanks - The cultists are Empire Flagellants with a few zombie heads thrown in. The front rank are old chaos champions, scavvy boss and forge word plague priests. Painted in nurgle colours with rusty weapons.

Are you painting anything nice at the moment? Are you going to share some nice pictures with us?

Take it easy

Peter

Sorry. Didn't mean to do any rubbing. I'm just having so much fun that I like to share. He was a 10lb 7oz baby so he did indeed hurt.

I like them. They look diseased and angry.

I'm working on finishing the Battle for Skull Pass box set plus a million other projects. Not much of a converter though so nothing totally unique.

I could definitely post some pics of some stuff that I've done/am doing if you'd like me to (though I'd have to figure out how to first). I'd just hate to overtake your thread of goodies.

Happy painting!

Bunnygurl - Ouch. Goblins are always ace. Ah the million projects problem .Taking pictures of models has been the hardest part of joining this web community (but very rewarding). Cool mini or not has some good articles on taking pictures. IRfanview is good for editing pictures and free. The most helpful though is the dakka FAQ http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/205120.page. As for over taking the thread you could start your own. Or just put some pics in your dakka gallery and tell me to go look Happy painting to you too.

Commander Cain - Cheers, did you mean Zhufor? (if you did I highly recommend him the detail on him is just jaw dropping, a joy to paint) I love painting but I need a break of the same old. The main reason I try and built a model then paint it now, rather than building a whole gang then painting the whole gang. I would go Cuckoo and they would never get done (like my 40k armies)

Cheers

Peter

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Hey Jackanory you asked what it is....

This is my Death Guard Daemonically Possessed Vindicator. It never hits anything and is usually blown up by turn three (or has no weapon).

I modelled it so all the hatches are welded shut. The daemon inside is not a happy mitsimotosis bunny and trying to bash its way out. As for the paint job i was really happy with it in 2008 but the rust isn't great.

you can zoom in.

Now beer festivals are good fun....the hangover at midnight not so much... The urge to go online and check out comments on your Necromunda blog unstoppable....the disappointment well disappointing.....not knowing if you can get mig pigment out of your favourite jeans still niggling.

Anyway onto the point of this post... I think this model is the best I've ever painted and want to share it with you guys.

Tear Bringers chapter

Enjoy and goodnight.

ps I do not recommend Trappistes Rochfort 8 (9.2%) each sip hurt like a weak vodka.

That is a great model PDH, fantastic weathering, white and yellow (I also love the rust on the tank, it is much more realistic that most attempts I have seen)

I don't drink beer so I'm safe. Huzzah.

Not usually a fan of marines but I really like yours. Looks wonderful! Bet the checker pattern on the knee was fun/tough/tedious to do. Great job though.

*Two thumbs up*

My head hurts and my mouth tastes like .....but at least the cause made me friendly last night

Commander Cain - Thanks. When I completed the vindicator a couple of years ago I was so pleased with the rust (I used the guide from the ogre kingdoms book). Looking at it now there is so much I would do differently because I've learnt quite a lot in the last few years. The main thing I would change is doing the rust first then mask it and then paint the off creamy colour on top, so the layers look like they are in the right order. So hopefully this will look so much better if I get round to painting it....

Jackanory - Cheers dude. The face came out so well. I think the main reason for that is I used a white undercoat, for the first time in years. It really changes the tone of the paints on top.

Beer festivals are dangerous..... (Note to self do not pick beers because they have interesting labels and if a beer is above 6% don't order it because you wont like it.)

Hey Bunnygurl - Hmmmm that might be a good move. As I'd really love a whole white space marine force I pulled out all the stops on this one model, a whole army its never going to happen. I painted this guy (one of my favourite models ever) over about a month as a challenge to paint nice white armour and use a white undercoat. The check pattern on the knee was fun and tough but I really enjoyed it because I was trying to improve myself. It took a while but the end result The tactical symbol on the back pack was much much harder to do than the checks, I just couldn't get the shape quite right.

A word of advice for painting white, to anyone who wants it....throw away your pot of skull white and order Vallejo Model Colour White. The dropper means your white paint does not get contaminated and so stays white.

Peter

Hey Peter, managed to miss this thread, nice stuff.

Ork looks great, go with chipping and damage on the plates, colour is fine

Didn't think much of the minotaurs from looking at the kits but may have changed my mind now

Nurgle sorceror is awesome. Why would anyone want to move past StD and TLaTD? stuff was more interesting and fun then

Tear Bringer has a fantastic paint job man, excellent work there. This is the kind of work that reminds us that marines can be cool too

Keep it up.

Cheers guys

Monkeytroll - Cheers - Yeah the nob is now glaring at me with a look of "you've decided on the colour now paint me or I'll ead butt you!".

The Minotaurs are pretty nice... they just scream Arnie.

MADLarkin - No he is the only one.....though I've base coated another (The Gamesday 2005 Marine). I cannot really claim credit for the paint scheme....I decided to paint the yellow like spaces wolves myself. But the original scheme that I was inspired by was done by Desert Eagle on his Desert Eagle's chapter over at Bolter and Chainsword http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?showtopic=109012 Start on the first page and work your way through its worth the wait to page 5 for the first completed marine. Possibly the best space marines I've ever seen.

SlaveToDorkness - Thank you very much. The chapter name came about by contemplating painting the Space Hulk Terminators in the colour scheme. So I needed something that would work with the blood drop symbol. Also the best named chapter ever in my opinion are the Grief Bringers. 1+1=Tear Bringers

Well I've not checked in here for a while.

The Nob....is still a WIP, I've base coated all the ochre. I'm sure I've made my poor excuses elsewhere.

I broke when I saw Paz's The Deeper Well http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/328364.page. I wanted a Sybarite that looks that cool! This will not be turning into an army... I'm only planning on painting up five or so warriors and about the same number of wyches. I will also be getting an Archon for Christmas from Abi's parents.

So while I wait for the plastic glue to dry, on my attempt at a shard carbine, I thought I'd bung these guys up here for you to see. They still need green stuff here and there but you get the general idea.

I'll be taking inspiration for my Dark Eldar colour scheme from this orchid, before all the flowers fall off. IRL the white is more of a Vallejo Rotting Flesh colour. On the models I'll be going for a somewhat darker purple with rotting flesh edge highlights. We'll see how it works. As for naming...Kabal of the Decaying Orchid? Its the best I've got but its not quite there.

Weety - Thanks for the comment about the Tear Bringer. Every time I look at the model I'm chuffed.

Peter

Hahaaaa, you totally cracked! I'm resisting the new DE pretty hard myself

Your basing is something special there, and I'm liking the addition of the chain to the big gun - I always think some of the bigger GW weapons can look ridiculously heavy for people (particularly eldar!) to be carrying unsupported...
It's already been said, but I absolutely love the weathering on your tear drinker.

but shouldn't you be painting scavvy dogs right now?

I really like your tear bringers chapter marine, white is such a hard colour to make look right and you pulled it of superbly. On the subject of your kabal, i really like the idea of using the orchid as inspiration for the colours. Name wise how about Kabal of the Poisoned Orchid? maybe a bit long winded. Keep it up

Guy on the left has my take on a shard carbine. Shortened the barrel, added the vane thing underneath, snipped off the fourth/smallest nubbin on top of the barrel, snipped off the end of the barrel and added some green stuff supports along the barrel....all to try and alter it enough that it doesn't look too much like the rifle it started out as. Still needs a bit of tidying up and filing. The model holding it also needs glueing together. So plenty of time for suggestions on how to improve the carbine, please.

Scarper - Thanks. Yeah the heavy weapon just screamed out for a strap. Dude shush about the dogs...they are in a closed drawer , I'm sure they will get out soon enough and attack my modelling table. I Know I know one project at a time etc but the Dark Eldar are so very pretty besides I totally cracked

Calibanite Lion - Thanks, he was fun to paint and took ages. My first thought was Poisoned Orchid but for some reason I shyed away from it. I'll put it back on the drawing board because it does sound better.

monkeytroll - Cheers. Good luck with not getting any Dark Eldar. They are gorgeous models and such a pleasure to put together.

sum1thtdiesalot- Thanking You.

Like what you've done with the carbine there, I think it's enough with the side supports in place, looks different enough from the rifle to justify it.

I had that prblem with the warriors hanging off the raider. I think i fixed a couple of them by filing the two chest pieces down and then used super glue not plastic glue and held the model really reallly tight for like an hour while the glue dried. You could probably just fill with green stuff though

I'm in the middle of under coating (in the kitchen with permission this time, dammed snow) five of my six warriors. The sixth one needs the right handed knife arm, from the raider box set, and Bits and Kits are all sold out at the moment. Oh well she can wait.

I'm still having problems with the Kabel name....but I've named my Wych Cult. The Cult of the Incendiary Heart. I'm thinking bright red PVC and black armour for these guys. I'll be honest and a certain adult movie star with a burning heart tattoo kinda clinched both the name and the colour scheme for me.

sum1thtdiesalot - Thanks. I filled the gaps today and it took quite a bit of effort.

neil101 - Cheers Neil. I get the feeling that this one might be a more long term main blog. But at the moment definitely side blog, I really want to get the scavvies done.... next year ha ha ha.

Yggdrasil - Thanks. I'm sorry about the models . I wish painting warhammer regiments was fun and I've vowed not to play a game until I have a painted army. I guess it'll never happen now GW have gone with massive regiments as a must. I've got some Nurlge Chaos Warriors on the go too (in a box for a year lol). I also wish that Chaos was Chaotic with warriors, daemons and beastman in the same army.

sphynx - Thank you. Thanks for the help with the name. Still not sure at all. Oh well I'll get their eventually.

Peter

You've done some excellent work on the Dark Eldar. The plastics (particularly the Wyches) look very interesting, and I wonder whether it would be possible to make an interesting Death-Cultist from them...

I have to say, though, that the Tear Bringer is brilliant. Really a very, very well done model.

Molotov - Thank You. The Dark Eldar warriors are a lovely kit. The Wyches look good but they are not getting touched until I've painted the warriors. I think they would make excellent Death Cult assassins... in fact I think that is what Migsula is doing here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/600/233990.page bottom of page. Actually having re read it maybe not but its still an excellent blog.

Since you've put some rather nice Inquisitor 28 stuff up I may as well show mine off too.

Inquisitor Emil Haxtus

Haxtus has been in the service of the Inquisition for nearly one hundred and seventy seven years, since his mentor tested his psychic strength aboard one of the black ships. During his tenure as an Inquisitor he moved towards the ranks of the Ordo Hereticus destroying the cancer from within. It was here he originally came across the Istvannian philosophy, believing the human race was its best at times of peril. Here he sought out and organised heretical cults, then brought the dangers to the attention of the authorities to be smote upon the anvil of the Emperors’ Justice.

Though a firm believer in the methods of the Istvannians he was never reckless in his endangerment of any world’s population. His view was that while good can come from conflict if a planet is overcome with corruption, it can no longer have a place in the domain of the Emperor on Terra. He regularly destroyed dangerous chaos cults intent on and capable of daemon summoning. It was at this stage his personal library of un-prescribed texts took form, originally to only help him conquer the blasphemous creatures brought forth using them.

Eventually he started to dabble in the rituals within the texts, to bring forth minor daemons for interrogation into the nature of the enemy. Forty years ago he carefully began his research into the process of making his own daemon host, to use against the enemy. This first attempt failed and left him severely scarred as the daemon broke its bonds and briefly used Haxtus as a play thing. Since then he always wears billowing hooded robes to hide his disfigurement and has armed himself more appropriately* for destroying the daemon. His second attempt eleven years ago was successful and the daemon host Judge Rhinehart is still bound to Haxtus.

* that would be a shoulder mounted psycannon (only used on deamons or bad ass chaotic characters) and a blessed weapon.

Daemon Host – Judge Rhinehart

When the daemon host was summoned the body that Inquisitor Haxtus used had been in a coma, brain dead, for years. The daemon when placed in the host body found the name of the previous occupier and has used it since, at first to attempt escape and then to torment and bring doubt to the Inquisitor.

As with most creatures from beyond it causes strange occurrences in its vicinity. Those within arms reach of the daemon host hear the whimper and cries of small children. Also if the host body is caught in precipitation or similar conditions water drops within a few metres turn to purple sparks until they hit the ground.

PDF Trooper Brandhof

Inquisitor Haxtus recruited Brandhof after a mission to bring down a rogue psyker on the ice world of Felixus IV. Trooper Brandhof was a member of a squad assigned as an honour guard to the Inquisitor. During the investigation the psyker made his presence felt by ambushing the Inquisitor and his party. The surprise attack mutated the PDF squad and the psyker ignored their altered remains, leaving them for dead. This left Haxtus and Judge Rhinehart to battle the psyker alone. During the ensuing combat Brandhof came round and instead of despairing at his new form he fought on. Despite the searing agony wrought by his newly deformed limbs Brandhof took aim and killed the psyker with a perfect head shot. Felixus IV governing body being particularly intolerant of mutation would have put Brandhof to death, except Haxtus was impressed with the trooper’s dedication and fortitude.

The attack has left Brandhof a hunched, twisted figure with thin wasted limbs and a bulging neck, which makes talking difficult. Since being recruited Inquisitor Haxtus continually uses the mutated trooper to help infiltrate mutant shanties and other unsavoury areas during his investigations. Brandhof is also used for a little extra muscle when necessary, with his steady aim. Brandhof manages his condition with a cocktail of pain suppressants and faith. He does not blame the Inquisitor for his current circumstances seeing him as a vessel of the Emperor’s might.

Master Savant Todial Galvisum

Many centuries has Master Savant Todial Galvisum worked for the Inquisition and with the death of his last three masters he has he been reassigned to the next generation. Galvisum does not judge the methods used by the Inquisition, only the results and is willing to openly play devil’s advocate with his masters. An expert in investigative work he often becomes obsessed with tasks until they are completed to his exacting standards. Having worked for Inquisitor Haxtus for the last one hundred years he was present during the failed attempt at daemon host creation and has been nearly killed during numerous incidents.

With his dangerous occupation and his advanced age he is slowly becoming more machine than man so that he can continue to serve. Not only has his body been repaired, it has been modified to improve his role in investigative work and can now link directly with logic engines. Having come into harm’s way frequently he has had sensors and bionics installed and has become adept at defending himself. The demands of controlling extensive bionic and electronic data storage has necessitated Galvisum being powered by a small generator.

Hierophant Yektor Pritov

Originally came into Haxtus’s service during an investigation into mutant cults in the lower districts of Hive Finnder Terceius on Finnder’s World. Pritov was a young priest in a small church on the edge of the mutant shanties. The Inquisitor interrogated the priest asking him for any leads with his enquiries. During the ensuing investigation it came to light that the chaos worshipping cult was actually in the higher echelons of the hives government. With Pritov’s help Inquisitor Haxtus persuaded the mutant population to rebel against the corrupt leaders. For two months the Haxtus, Pritov and the mutants hid within the hive making daring raids against the cult until it became apparent the majority of the hive were secretly worshipping the chaos gods. During this Pritov continued his devotion to him on earth leading the mutant population in prayer. The rebellion was ended when Haxtus got a message for help off world, answered by the Relictor Chapter of Space Marines.

After the rebellion Pritov asked to join Haxtus off world. As he had visions that is was his position to administer to the Inquisitor spiritual guidance. Since the creation of the daemon host Pritov has removed his eyes, ears drums and tongue. This protects him from ever looking upon, speaking with or hearing the daemon’s evil. So Pritov can function and as a compromise he has had bionic implants to replace his natural senses. He believes now more than ever he is needed to protect Inquisitor Haxtus from falling to the will of the dark gods.

The warband looks great Peter, i like the way you have tied very different models together through your basing ,green lights and gold ,white and blue accents. The Inquisitor Emil Haxtus is scary , but i have to say i also love your Hierophant Yektor Pritov in that lovely blue. Thanks for the fluff also , nice to get to know them after seeing the pics.

I like Brandhof and his background, it reminds me of the background of a trooper in the 54mm Inquisitor era...

This is really the model I like most in that band!!!

The inquisitor is creepy as well, I like the conversion of the Wraith; it's not often we see LotR minis down here!!!

The fluff is nice, all the pieces fit together, good job!

Only concern is Pritov's bionics : from that distance we cannot see them properly... Any close-up?

Typically nice work from you there Peter and it's awesome that you've got so much fluff written up for them. I'll have to do that with my scavvies at some point.

Neil - Thank you. When I started building them I decided that since they are meant to be a warband they should not look uniform. But as you say through colour and bases I've managed to tie them together. The blue is nice and easy - Mix Mordian Blue with Khemri Brown add Commando Khaki for first highlight wash with a Blue wash and then Dev Mud (I cannot remember which way round I did it). Rehighlight with base and then highlight again with more Commando Khaki.

jackanory - I put them in my gallery when I joined and then never posted them for some reason? The fluff was done at the same time as the model building so the whole process from start to end was linked together (and it made a nice break from painting/building etc.) So sometimes the story influenced the modelling and vice versa.

Yggdrasil - In all honesty Brandhof is meant to remind you of Dante from the Inquisitor rulebook

I am so happy with the Inquisitor model. Like all 'Good' Inquisitors he is mean to be creepy IMO not seeing lotr models down here makes this the forum to post on. I think if LOTR was 28 heroic scale I might have got into it....also for some reason as a game lotr just doesn't appeal to me in the slightest, it might have something to do with the story being set.

Right I'm trying out my new second hand camera for the first time. Its a Fujifilm FinePix S9500 (a free gift from Abi's father when he upgraded). Its the first proper camera I've ever used and at the moment I think I prefer the run of the mill cameras with digital zoom rather than having to guess right number of turns on the lense thing (I'm so ignorant). I cannot seem to get the whole thing in focus or it focuses on the wrong bit...ah well practice.

Hierophant Yektor Pritov

Bionics are as follows - Chest Grill is for one to one speech. Loud Speaker grill on back pack is for oratory. Right Servo Skull for sight and left one with microphone for hearing.

Edit - His staff has warped slightly too...dammed figure case.

PDH - Apologies for not posting in this thread sooner. I'm impressed by this retinue, and pleased to find another player who thinks along lines similar to me! It's funny how we've both gone for similar character archetypes in Haxtus and Adorno - both Inquisitors possessed as a result of their radicalism.

I, too, noticed the parallels between Brandhof and the 'Dante' miniature - I think it's a very clever conversion, and one I wish I'd thought of myself. I think you've really adhered to the true spirit of INQ28 in creating a force of individual characters. It's really nice to see!

Yggdrasil -
I get it now... I think you should have emphasized the fact he self-gouged his eyes, from here it's hard to guess... Good job on the bionics though!

His bionics are meant to be old and to be different 'ie the compromise' the bionics are only vaguely part of him. He removed his own senses when Haxtus created the Daemon Host which according to my time line, warp travel not withstanding, was eleven years ago. I imagine his injuries would have healed over that time. I like his eye sockets being black holes.....kinda creepy and subtle.

Molotov - No worries. I love inquisitor (not that I play that much ) but have no love 54mm scale...the logistics, costs and limited availability I feel stifles it. With 28mm scale I have a massive box of bits and an unlimited supply of parts so no two models have to have the same legs or torso for example. I've read all the pros and cons from the conclave but at the end of the day reading between the lines I see a bit of elitism. With 28 you may have to be a little more careful with plonking dubious models with dubious weaponry down...but just plonking things down imo defeats one of the objects of Inquisitor...having you own unique warband.

As for the parallels between Adorno and Haxtus...radicalism is always more fun but as we all know it has its dangers. When I wrote his background I wanted him to be flawed/learnt from his mistakes and have a reason for hiding in the unfathomably dark hood, oh and wandering around with a psycannon. He was not possessed just heavily scarred and physically damaged from the experience....someone else in the room was possessed.

A friend and I were talking about how it would be fun to run around burning everything, so I'm contemplating a campaign with a Ultra Hardline Puritan as the bad guy...so to speak. Maybe after the scavvies

Scarper - Thank you. The story is just beginning . Though I imagine like all great radicals it will end on a stake or as the villain himself. Since you enjoyed it meet Haxtus’s nasty bit of hired muscle. He was painted up a while before Haxtus for a bit of fun and only joined the warband when a bit of normal muscle was needed (hence he was not included in the group shot). He is one hard

Bounty Hunter Uli Greystott

Bounty Hunter is a term Greystott uses to describe himself, others describe him as a low life son of a grox but only behind his back. While he was an enforcer he was part of a particularly nasty and corrupt group, who would more than happily look the other way if the price was right or work for the criminals they were meant to be opposing. He retired from his job as an enforcer when it became more lucrative to work directly for the Adamantium Hand cartel, which specialised in smuggling imperial grade weaponry to anyone willing to pay the price. Greystott became a low level enforcer for the cartel, who would often volunteer to pay a visit to those no longer in favour with the management, all the while taking detailed notes to possibly use as blackmail later.

Greystott became embroiled with Haxtus when the Inquisitor needed to arm a chaos cultist group he was cultivating for an uprising (that would be un-ceremonially crushed). After the weapons were delivered Haxtus decided that the Adamantium Hand needed investigating.

Inquisitor Haxtus originally thought the brute Greystott would not be of much use in his enquires but needing a place to start decided to question him. This turned out to be quite fortuitous for all parties involved. Haxtus underestimated the resourcefulness and ruthlessness of Greystott and lost two veteran guardsmen trying to capture him. When the two parties finally sat down and talked, or rather when Haxtus had his Interrogator ‘interview’ Greystott, they reached a bargain. Greystott would help bring down the Adamantium Hand in exchange for further employment and better wages. The Adamantium Hand’s leader turned out to be a Magos of the Cult Mechanicum. During the final engagements on the Forge World of Esteban Haxtus’s Warband were fed vital information by Greystott. It was Greystott’s shotgun that ended the campaign when he placed it on the back of Magos Thargus’ head.

Since then Greystott has been referring to himself as a Bounty Hunter and been in the Inquisitor’s pay. All the while taking detailed notes on Haxtus’s activities for later use. Haxtus has kept his deal with Greystott and employs him as muscle, though he does not trust him, with good cause.

Again forgive my literally challenged attempts at background. But blimey I enjoy it .

Peter

I'm ill so cannot go out and play on New Years . I'm also sick of bumming about in bed. So a little photoshoot of something I painted in September that has been gathering dust in GW Preston's cabinet until recently.

Possibly the best miniatures GW have made in recent years imo. It is actually chaotic and the little baby hand holding the key is simply creepy.

Yggdrasil - Cheers. The back pack is from the Necromunda bounty hunter with big hair. I'll take a picture when I have him out again and edit the above post and send you a PM.

Monkeytroll - Thanks - faces are always the most important part of the model, worth the time and effort. The weathering on the armour, in my imagination, is what happens when you use a respirator whilst chewing tobacco... Uli is really not a nice man Everyone one should own a bottle of Vallejo Model Colour Smoke. The best ink for dirty anything.

Anyway Happy New Year all. I'm off to the sofa now. Burrrggghhh

Hey neil101. Respirator gak...nice term I'll have to use that from now on. The sorcerer is cool...shame he was a limited edition for last years games day. Talking of which I will have to get my hands on 2011s Games Day miniature because it is just as nice.

While we are on the subject of limited edition Skaven models. I just couldn't resist any longer and on Christmas Eve, with some money I got for Christmas (well it was a safe bet someone would give me money for Christmas), I bought Warlord Spinetail

He is a little shiny in places in the picture but whatever. I'm not completely happy with the light source effect on the warpstone, I've never done it before over dark areas. Ah well it was fun and made a very nice break from everything else I am doing. Ok Dark Eldar or Tear Bringer Librarian for The Huge Space Marine Chapter Conclave - Dakka Group Project up next.

Nice stuff in here PDH.

A good variety of models which certainly helps keep colour choices fresh and work on different surface types. You have quite a distinct style, clean and strongly yet smoothly shaded.

I think the next step to take already great looking figs a bit further would be to start working on pushing the highlighting a bit more in areas to create more contrast (such as on the face etc).

As always, a pleasure viewing your work, keep it up!

Sageheart - Thanks... its only 4 or 5 models do it and blog it It might help with the BA's...I always find having a break and painting or building something else helps other projects come along.

Yggdrasil - Abi knocked my confidence with the OSL by saying something along the lines of "why have you slopped green paint over the pretty gold!" I don't think she meant it how it sounded though. I didn't make it to last years games day and yet I still got my hands on the sorcerer model...I'll be doing the same for this years day miniature too. Games Day has never really appealed to me.

bunnygurl - Hey there, cheers. Still not working? If you think Spinetail is cute I'm going to have to worry about you

CMDante - Thanks. Coming from you that is a complement I really appreciate. Just what was wrong with your Kislevite warrior (cute bear btw). As for pushing the highlights I am worried about that. I get models to a nice level and then the thought of another highlight frightens the bejesus out of me. Mainly because in the past I’ve tried it and it hasn’t worked....the fine final lines are too thick etc. But tell you what... on the next metal Fantasy figure I paint I'll ask you for some advice once I've got it to the point I reckon its finished. That is if you don't mind?

Flashman - Glad I could help, Spinetail's back is beautiful. I was considering him for my Scavvy Boss conversion but I think his tail is a lot on the large side. I never really understood the Minotaur hate....they are great models. Over the top muscle wise but blimey isn't that the point.

Thanks for the comments.

I managed to finish 4 CSM Khorne Berserkers last night (which you can see on my thread I started this morning). No I'm not promoting myself. Yggdrasil - The blade attachment is a thin platicard just to change the silhouette of the gun....so I can claim its a shard carbine. I like Abi too... her sister calls her scAbi which makes me laugh (mainly because its true she does seem to have them on her knees quite regularly ).

sum1thtdiesalot - Yes they are trueborn. The Dark Eldar are just a fun little 12 or so model project. When they are complete I may use them as an Esher Gang in Necromunda for a few games. Shard Carbine - Shotgun, Splinter Weapons - Las etc....but I'm jumping ahead I need to paint them first

Calibanite Lion - Cheers. The robes are actually a dark shade of teal. Started off with a base of Vallejo - Dark Sea Blue, Highlight - Base plus Hawk Turquoise x2, Wash with a mix of GW Blue and Green washes, Highlight again. Add a little Ice Blue for the final highlight.

bunnygurl - Ha Ha I knew it Shushy is a cute word btw. lol. I've just had a quick peak at the Beserkers and stuff... but I need to go to work so shall have to comment in your blog in about 9ish or so hours .

Basically modelling doesn't strain my eyes as much as painting. So later this week with a new pair of glasses and the rest, I've given my eyes, I should be able to do some painting again

Hey Guys,

Yet another update of new models rather than painting what I've got undercoated I've had these chaps done for a while now but I've just begun painting them so thought you might like a quick look-see.

This year and late last year I've been massively inspired by Molotov. His Inq28 thread http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/240062.page" target="_new" rel="nofollow"> http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/240062.page and his blog spot http://inq28.blogspot.com/" target="_new" rel="nofollow"> http://inq28.blogspot.com/. The part that really got me going was his new years resolution http://inq28.blogspot.com/p/my-2011-resolutions.html and after reading it I just had to send him a quick email offering a contribution. Which after a bit of back and forth produced this http://inq28.blogspot.com/2011/02/contributor-pdh.html" target="_new" rel="nofollow"> http://inq28.blogspot.com/2011/02/contributor-pdh.html which made me very happy indeed.

So this is Magos Helixis Spur (who I saw as soon as I laid eyes on Ikit Claw)

This is his Praetorian Battle Servitor 9856-26 (who was a very happy accident and I'm so glad I kept those Space Crusade Dreadnought legs in my bits box for 20 years! ) I don't think I'll be using him in Inquisitor much though...can you imagine a twin linked heavy bolter!

Bunnygurl - Cheers me dear!

Peter

Wow, how did i miss this!!

Lovely work on converting and painting and the basing is top-notch as usual.

How much of that Magos is Ikit Klaw? Does the model come with that ace backpack?? It looks sweet and will duly be swiped, with proper acknowledgements of course!

edit: Do you have a particular source for your basing materials? Or is it just random bits? Also, where does the Magos' head come from?

Cheers

sum1thtdiesalot - cheers

neil101 - Oooooooo count me intrigued. Thanks for the compliment.

monkeytroll - Thanking you.

The Good Green - He is cool but I think that might be his thermal cooling system lol. I'm a bit gutted my favourite bit on the whole model is his bionic neck which was pretty much covered with the mandatory hood .

Vitruvian XVII - It is pretty much totally ikit claw. The head is from a Tau Stealth Suit, right arm plastic rod and an Enginseer axe. The backpack is Ikit's and the only additions were the Mechadendrites, shoulder mounted lasgun and the press molded mechanicus symbol. His left arm is untouched because it doesn't get any cooler than that. BTW the left arm is a to put together because the front half is on the body and the back half is part of the backpack! Help yourself to the idea

Bases: In the last three years bases have become quite important to me. They really can add so much more to a model, though I still hate (perhaps an overly strong word) painting them. I have to paint the bases before I paint the rest of the miniature (to the extent I think May's project will be to build and paint all the bases for my Imperial Guard Army (56 small bases, 5 40mm bases, 5 60mm bases) I'll be treating myself too in June... as for my 30th birthday I'm getting an air brush ).

As for what I actually use for the bases: Vallejo Sandy Paste for the dirt areas, plasticard for slabs, plasticard "corrugated metal" design, random bits and pieces from cities of death and tank kits, random plastic tubes and rods. I've not used them yet but I've just bought some 28mm scale resin bricks too.

Cheers

Peter

That Magos Spur is pure awesomeness! All of the changes are quite subtle, yet the result is a totally different thing. Love him to death!
YOU on the other hand, I hate you, because I considered converting Ikit into the leader of my miner gang, which I now cannot do anymore, because I would see Spur in him all the time!
Nah, I still might do it, but I wasn't to convinced of the idea to begin with, I was just looking for an excuse to buy and convert Ikit.
Well done, mate!

I made a sentinal out of space crusade legs once a long time ago - really want to buy some recently but I only won one auction and the guy was a con job - they work really well!

Love molotov's blog too it awsome - but just so it on the record your blog is awsome too - unique in its way - every model a conversion and a lot of really unusual scenic bases. You have style man

Baiyuan - Magos Spur feels your man love but has eradicated all the weak human emotion from his metal frame and so cannot reciprocate. I wanted to make some joke about mechadendrites but I felt the Mods would snigger but reprimand

I on the other hand do have human emotion (well not according to Abigail, sometimes) and you have really upset me with your hate As for the mining crew's Foreman you might want to consider him anyway....just get rid of the "plasma lightning claw" build him a renegade militia head some how or other and jobs a good un. I'm kinda regretting not getting rid of the lightning claw as its very distinctive, yet too cool. Cheers

weetyskemian44 - Thanking yous. Sucks that you got a con job auction. The last GW thing I bought off ebay (Necro bounty hunter) I am convinced is a fake, so its sitting here unpainted because I'm disappointed with it.

The Space Crusade legs have been a nightmare...lets just say GW's moulding techniques have improve phenomenally. I've actually finished painting the majority of the servitor but the details are different shaped on both legs, the sharp edges are just not that sharp. So far so good the colour scheme I've gone for looks pretty good, though I'm not sure about the hazard stripes up the front of the feet. Oh well I reckon middle of the week for a painty update.

Well in May I'll be posting "one or two" bases.... lets see if I can keep up the style.

You are right about his distintive claw, but I wouldn't dare take it off too, it's the coolest thing about the model (including the backpack).

Actually got the model today and had a closer look at it. IF I use it for my leader I will go a different way, keeping the claw and getting rid of a good part of his body.
Don't want to go into detail here though, that's rather stuff for my own blog. Don't want to spam yours with it.

What you said about assembling Ikit was SO right by the way, still you failed to mention that his claw is threeparted. Not just front and back, there also is an upper part. In my case the front part was bend pretty much and it will take some careful plierswork to make it fit properly.
Also I totally understood you adding mechadendrites to the backpack, the sockets on it scream for mechadendrites. Which I, not being into tentacle things, always loved about the AM.
About the hate, let Abi give you the most manly hug on behalf of me, to make sure you'll get over my belligerence and hatred.

Hyenajoe - Haha it took me so long to work out what to do with the legs I thought they'd stay in my bits box for ever. Cheers

Vitruvian XVII - No worries. Yeah totally Ikit's.... bit it will serve nicely as a piece of archeotech: rules (intelligence test every time he wants to use it) Power Fist with built in Plasma Pistol.

neil101 - Morning mate.... for you I'll find them, admittedly not a particularly hard thing to do. For Inq28 I use the Inquisitor Rulebook http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1140164&rootCatGameStyle= which I've had since the day it was released and is such a great book. You can download it for free http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?catId=cat480007a&categoryId=1100009§ion=&aId=4900004 and I assume the pdf version has a few update. That is just the tip of the iceberg plenty of other pdf's from fanatic magazine which are pretty easy to find as a bulk download but start off with the rule book.

For Necromunda I use Necromunda: Community Edition by Anthony Case http://www.anthony-case.me.uk/necromunda which I think is great.

Baiyuan - Ah yeah I've tried blocking the building process from my mind...the third bit that was longer than the hole it was meant to go in, plus the claw that was wider than the gap it was meant to go it! I bet it was a pleasure to put together on the original green. As for what you've doing with the mining boss.... well I'd better go check out your blog.

As for getting Abi to give me a manly hug.... I'll wait until it emerges from the depths of slumber.

medabee - Thank you.

Fury_00011 - Cheers

Evening....Well I've been painting Magos Spur (and the Scavvy Zombie proder) this week and he is coming along nicely. I've noticed a few areas that could have done with a little more filing, when it came to removing skaven symbols, but never mind a few move gs purity seals will sort that out. I didn't get anything done tonight because the bottle of bordeux caret, A History of Violence (hottest scene ever) and Abigail were a much more attractive options (besides a lot of wine and painting will never end well).

Anyway the main point of this post is to show you guys this link... JRN has created a fabulous model.....

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/353742.page#2570895

It is totally Blanchian in concept and made me ever so happy (and a little creeped out) when I found it. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I have.

Now I've drank a bit too much I'm going to bitch a little about Grey Knights. Grey Knights are fantastic but I much preferred them as Imperial Agents or rather Dark Millennium bonus unit. (yes I know I'm living in 2nd ed). Is it wrong of me to think they should only be fighting daemons rather than every other bugger too? I'm also a little upset that my soonish to be started Imperial Guard army will not be allowed allies. Of course I feel totally in my rights to use the Daemon Hunter codex since GW haven't replaced it. The new Inquisition options sound good...its an orangutan (I'm actually excited about the model, shame I'm not allowed to buy new stuff until I've made a dent in what I've got) I just wish Inquisitors along with assassins (that really need new models) were an allied elite choice for all Imperial armies. Anyway enough of my ramblings, goodnight.

Neil - No worries. Both are great games and totally different and both bring totally different modelling opportunities.

Peter

Morning Neil....indeed it is a great link which I had to share. I really should have just gone to bed when Abi crashed out. Because this is a family friendly forum.... Well boys and girls drinking is bad for you...it lowers your inhibitions ...and gives you a lovely headache the following morning. So please drink responsibly.....and if you don't, well just ramble on Dakka (but make sure it all goes in the correct forum).

As a teenager I was always confused by my parents getting up early at weekends. Now that I am an adult I have the same problem. It doesn't matter what time I go to bed or how rough I feel. I always wake up between 7 and 7.30 just like a work day. Sucky.

As for my comments about Grey Knights...from what I've read they seem a little over the top. Instant Death force weapons on the whole unit from one psychic test! Ignores daemons instant death rule (on a Ld test)! Now imo this is just wrong....how did Angron manage to kill 100 grey knights before they banished him? Anyway this really is the wrong forum for this debate.

man your an early riser , i cant get up before 10 at a weekend , i was a little dissapointed with the new GK as well , not fluff wise , but i see where your going with that, i have the deamon hunter codex and its really good , all gothic and specialised , i would hate the fact if they become another generic SM army , it was the only SM army i would of considered , although i think i will still make a GK diorama to face of against the Art scale word bearers. I dont know why iam dissapointed , they do look nice , i think once you go artscale you cant go back . ;-) they kinda look short and stubby now lol.

SM models always tickle me.
If only they were true scale they would be so much better,
The legs on the new GK models are somehow funnier than normal, which is odd cos they look generic.

Feel for the guy in the DreadKnight baby carrier. The hips!! ouoooouuuch!!! Those hips have been ripped apart to get in that thing. He'll not be walking without the aid of a zimmer frame again.

Amen, to your "living in the 2nd edition" opinion!
"Hi kids, I'm a greyknight, I was born and raised for only one purpose, purging daemons. Unfortunately the bad economy and budget cuts forced us greyknights to take any job we're offered. So in between fighting the creatures from the warp we also stand ready to kill your household pest, clean the gutters or take out the garbage, just call 555-fortheemperor ..."
When I first discovered the GK back then I was like "Wow, those guys are so badass, they are only called when the (daemon) gak hits the fan! Look at the price of a five man squad, imagine deploying more than 5 man! But they will kill those daemons for good..."
Well, well, we're old I guess. Plus I was having this discussion a lot, that was years ago when the first ordo malleus codex came out. So we're also too late...

neil101 - I hear what you're saying about art scale. Its something I've not tried yet...but sometime I'd like to do an Iron Warrior and/or a Night Lord....its not happening any time soon though. I'm rather fond of the new models mainly because they look like the old metal models. I'll be buying the codex as soon as it comes out just for the read. At some point further down the line I'll probably buy a box of terminators to use as allies (I'm just going to copy and paste that allies part from the Daemon Hunters book over a picture of something in the Grey Knight book )

Chibi Bodge-Battle - The only thing I'm not keen about on the new models is the move away from fake latin to english. As for the Dread Knight the GW pictures look dreadful. I saw one in the flesh and I quite like it...the pose is important. In fact I think I saw a good one on dakka...hang on let me have look....http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/353042.page. But I know what you mean though about the hip dislocation. I don't actually have a problem with the Dread Knight (though I think I'd have preferred a power armoured marine in it) because it means that any new plastic greater daemons will be huge.

Baiyuan - Exactly how I feel about the Grey Knights going against everything. The old 2nd Ed Imperium/Inquisition would have just sent a few million more guard that waste a Grey Knight on Orks. As for the price of space marines it is getting ridiculous. 5 Grey Knight Models for £20.50 is bad when you can get 10 Tactical Marines for £23. I know there is a difference in detail and extra bits but still. As for being old...I can cope with that and it's my aim to attract old farts to this thread....I shall use Neil and Chibi and monkeytroll as good examples

Northen - Cheers...the =I= stuff is my favourite too. I'm hoping that my friend Martin and I will both have finished warbands, including background, by Easterish (I'll try and get him to post too). Magos Spur is coming along nicely now, I got a bit of painters block. I had to take a step back and concentrate on certain parts. I'm looking forward to finishing him so I can start on modelling his Skitarri and female ganger (I felt he would need un-augmented follower to go where he cannot).

Me too, very curious to see your take on the skitarri (not sure you got the spelling right, but don't know any better, didn't it spell with a double "i"...). And nice thinking to have an unaugmented member, I like that.

Yeah, it is Skitarii. Although, it would probably be a Hypaspist or a Hypaspist Tribune. Skitarii is a term for all of the fighting forces under the Adeptus Mechanicus (apart from Titans and certain Vehicle Companies), equivalent to "The Imperial Guard".

Neil (and Chibi and monkeytroll) my apologies...but lets be fair its true Oh and it does serve you right.

Baiyuan - Thanks about the unaugmented member comment. She is a conversion I've had in mind for years from an Escher model. The problem I faced is a distinct lack of female arms...Thank you GW for the wyches

Baiyuan and Vitruvian XVII - Ok, I misspelt it in my above post because I was going to write his actual rank, then changed my mind. Skitarii would have been the correct spelling. To be precise his actual rank and name is Skitarius Hyspasist Praetorian Evars Secgharf. A quick break down of his rank Skitarius (singular of Skitarii) Hyspasist(Infantry) Preatorian (Elite). He is not going to be a major conversion just some alterations to a Vostroyan (like ditching the fur hat), seemed like the perfect choice since they have close ties to the Mechanicus. But no touchy until I have finished Magos Spur. Which is really what I should be doing now (along with the washing up).

Oh boy. I'm starting to wonder how its possible we keep having eerily similar ideas. After talking about the Delaques I decided to put them on hold because I was afraid they would be too similar to what you were doing with your Delaques after we both got the Vahallans stuff! So I decide to go back to my =I=munda and have gotten the group excited about starting a campaign and decided it was finally time to flesh out my Inquisition force, which, of course, uses Vostroyans as Inquistorial storm troopers.

Oh well, I guess great minds think alike. It's still awesome to see such a thriving Necromunda/=I=munda community here its all very inspiring, and I guess these things are bound to happen at some point.

Oh, and Peter, your Magos is insane. Easily one of the best models I've seen in quite awhile. I am really excited to see him painted up.

HF Izanagi - Thank you

Chibi Bodge-Battle - Ha ha I have to agree....on the three occasions I've been to a lap dancing bar I always felt ripped off.. (edited because it probably wasn't funny in the way I intended or appropriate). The Zombie Stripper models were just amusing but at least they have a reason for being semi naked.

Yggdrasil - Cheers. He is proving to be a pain to paint though. Lots of fiddly bits that the paint brush just doesn't want to get near... without painting other things. Oh well its keeping me out of trouble.

Baiyuan - Ah well there is a limited range of cool GW models and the world is a pretty big place. Their is nothing new under the sun as the saying goes. I am sure if I looked I would find some Vostroyans already converted up to Storm Troopers and Skitarii. Now let me find a nob with a good looking vent for his Hell Gun.

sum1thtdiesalot - Oh no.....please tell me you're kidding...apparently not http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0960890/. Whoot is stars Jenna Jameson. I bet the acting is first class.
I actually decided on painting after all last night....I managed to paint a few armour plates, a bicep and a bandage.

Cadaver - Thanks I am really happy as to how he turned out too. After undercoating a few areas could have done with a little more filing but never mind. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your =I=munda because I totally missed the thread until the link showed up in Baiyuan's thread. The muties look brilliant. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the Vostroyans.

Since I kinda accidentally updated this blog in Scarper's http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/510/272328.page yesterday I thought I'd better quote myself here:

@PDH - Thanks so much! They're designer I really like the idea of a display base, actually. I'll bear it in mind, though my flat's a little small for any kind of terrain at the mo :( Have you managed to paint up your Magos yet? I'm really looking forward to seeing you take on all that red!

If he's buying designer jeans he is getting paid too much! Shame about the lack of space for display board....but i know how you feel. I'm lucky having limited space under the bed in the spare room.

Hmmmmm this week I've been painting red... and white checkers on that nobs power claw. The Magos currently has a red cloak and grey armour plates. Tonight I am going to paint a weapon on a scavvy, while watching The Sweeny. Tomorrow I shall paint some more of the magos.... I promise to paint both his arms at least (no its not an April fool). It feels odd to update my blogs on yours?!

Peter

edit damn The Sweeny isn't on.

Well so far so good this morning. I've painted very little of the Magos's arms. I have painted all the gold on the model instead! BLING. The arms are still within reach today, so I'll let you know how its going later.

ha ha the update becomes official, glad to hear your mastering you mini , you know what they say the paintbrush is mightier than the mechadendrite. but i am getting a little worried , gold bling and zombie strippers , what sort of a blog is this becoming ? are you now the zombpimp daddy! it will be the genestealer cult limmo next. ;-)

Neil - ha ha not quite but its very tempting to become a DCM so I can have the rank of zombpimp daddy! As for Genestealer cult limo...very unlikely.

Well a slightly unusual WIP painting picture from me.

The battle servitor is done pretty much... I will be dirtying the group up as one to get some consistency. I'm thinking of recreating the torso of this model on mansized legs (Tau stealth suit) and giving him some arms, so he can be used a battle servitor in normal games. Possibly with a drum fed autogun arm and a bionic claw. I'll just have to get another matching flagellant head and zombie torso, from some where.

As for the Magos...well he is started but a long way off. I plan on putting hazard stripes on all the mechadendrite claws and pincers. As for the barrel on the power fist I'm thinking porcelain with an ice blue OSL. Bionic eye will be green OSL. The half skulls on the axe will be bone (I was planning on doing one black and the other bone but I think they both need to be done in bone). I will add a cream/white line around the bottom of the cloak and possibly the hood to add some further contrast. He isn't really photogenic at the moment and the gold looks better irl but I think it needs a final mythril highlight. In fact most of the model needs a further final highlight.

Any suggests one this one will be much appreciated.

Peter

Cheers Yggdrasil.

I've finished painting for the day now....from my point of view good progress. I'm so slow. Time to get ready for my little sisters birthday meal. Mmmmmm Tapas.

Both arms are painted* and all the metal work is complete bar a final mythril highlight, I've started on the shoulder mounted lasgun, the axe skulls and base coated all the hazard stripe areas. So hopefully he will be completed by next weekend (maybe).

  • What colour should I paint the cables and wires etc?

  • I got to listen to The Horus Heresy - Garro: Legion of One, whist I was painting this afternoon. Its pretty good but somewhat predictable. I really hope the next garro story will be an actual book because audio dramas never make boltguns sound right.

On a terrain note I also got my hands on a couple of cans of rough coat from my local gw last night (whoot for finding stuff in the basement). Looks like my Imperial mining out post is a goer afterall!

    Looks good so far.

Off the top of my head I'd say yellow, green and blue are the choices when it comes to the cabling.

Hey Peter , great to see your work again , and quite humbling too , your patience makes me feel like a , 5 year old who needs his rittelin dose
you have given me hope that the dred legs can have a use after all , other than an ed 209 conversion. the ice blue pottery on the power fist sound like it will be great and i would suggest using this blue or turquise for the cableing, i also found a useful little app . for colour schemes.
i think this colour would suit your guys cables http://colorschemedesigner.com/export/

and here is the site. http://colorschemedesigner.com/

have great night , and i never knew 40k came on audio books thanks for that too!

Morning.....wow what a 'treat' there is nothing quite like lightning and thunder that sounds like the onset of the apocalypse at 4am. Anyway the tapas was excellent but chilli beer is definitely an acquired taste.

monkeytroll - Cheers. The green and blue will get used, kinda had them in mind. The yellow will be used on the pincers etc.

Neil - Well I imagine that if I had a deadline I would get more work done. I might try and get my mate Martin to enter some sort of doubles 40k tournament with me.... so I will actually paint my guard army. Thanks for the website, I'll have a look later when I'm feeling more alive... but the first link gave me this "Data syntax error. You have to use Color Scheme Designer to export a color palette."

Indeed there are 40k/fantasy audio books now, some of them only come as audio dramas that ruins it. I'd like some bloke just to read not act it out.

jackanory - Cheers. Have you got anything cool in the works? How are those grots?

Better go I have an irrationally angry women baking at the moment.

Looking fantastic, Peter! I think the hazard stripes were an awesome design choice, and the 'dead flesh' kind of colour on the servitor is fantastic. The whole torso -thing- is really disturbing actually, as I really thing servitors ought to be, so kudos there.

The progress on the Magos is looking good! It's a little early to judge, but I'm sure you'll do him justice.

And thank you so much for the plug!

Q0rbin - Cheers. The next picture update will be later this week or next weekend. Haven't done any painting today but I have seen the film Sucker Punch. I wish I could claim I went to see it for the story but it was all the visual effects I went for. The costume designer deserves an Oscar! House Party tonight and Mother's Day tomorrow means very little painting this weekend.

neil101 - You are a gentlemen. I'd prefer chilli crisps at this point. Thanks for the picture . I'm thinking I can fit a bit of turquoise into the scheme. I'm hoping the whole thing will come together when I've done the glowing green bionic eyes. At the moment nothing much is standing out.

I missed the front page...what was it? I keep on hoping that one day I'll click on dakka and see one of my models.

Scarper - No worries about the plug...but I guess we get a lot of the same crowd...but what a crowd .

The hazard stripes came about just to break up the massive amounts of metal and grey, I'm rather happy with them. The servitor was just one of those things that happens from time to time. Worked out much better than I expected.

Neil its a good colour....I seem to go through phases on a certain colour.

As for the Brat...I've got the one with glasses too. I'm sure I'll get around to it at some distant point....I want to turn him into a representation of the character with two pistols shown on page 44 of the Inquisitor Rulebook. (sorry googlefu fail) The biggest problem I've got with the model is the small size and finding arms was an issue. The empire militia were the best option for arms I found. I've also got another one of the old scavvies too.

neil101 - Good luck sculpting the arms...will you be sculpting the hands too? Oh and the picture I was talking about is actually on page 36 of the downloadable copy of the Inquisitor Rulebook.

Molotov - Cheers mate. Like a bad penny. On your blog I meant I was missing your blog on Dakka (I miss you too, a bit, but don't tell anyone)....I know you...you probably have half a dozen miniatures in the works at the moment... Bring out the fiendgryn!, to the tune of Iron Maiden's "Bring Your Daughter's To The Slaughter" (Jeez I've not heard that song in years....yay for You Tube).

As for better pics of Spur... when he is finished.

migsula - Cheers for the CAP LOCK. As for your ring wraith =I= he turned up at the end of the Jade Vessel, if I remember correctly. I've not see the green stuff picture of him though. Looks like he took a hell of a lot more work than mine. The wraiths are a lovely idea but I really don't like the models, except for the one I've used. The new ones are even worse! Initially I bought the ring wraith for a possessed warband, for Mordheim, that never happened.

Ok another update. I never thought I'd be able to update both my threads in one sitting....

For Magos Spur's warband a Skitarri:

  • Now I have a request...which way round should I put him on his base? I'm thinking the middle picture

  • Yes he is indeed armed with a hotshot lasgun, aux grenade launcher and an exterminator cartrirdge . The basic model is the Vostroyan flamer with hat removed and hood in its place. Since I really love the face and rebreather I only added a brim to make it look like he is wearing a helmet under the hood. I removed the flame nozzle and replaced it with a lasgun end. It was at this point I decided that he should get an exterminator to he rear. I then had to do something with the bit at the bottom bit...I suddenly remembered a model from my youth and a quick image search using my phone found a rather nice example:

So he got a aux. grenade launcher too. Now in game its fine....the weapon only has a weight of 50 and he has a bionic arm so its all good

    Any pointers appreciated.

TheChronoTrigger and Scarper - Cheers guys. I've just taken your advice and pinned him to the base. I think you're right the buttress arch now looks like scenery rather than the focal point. I'm going to have to paint the figure and base separately, since I can see me getting annoyed that the buttress is in the way of my brush.

I also favored the middle position and Scarper hit the nail on the head, it was distracting the other way around.

The idea to use the fuel lines as cables for a hot shot las gun is ingenious, I might have to steal that. Keeping the ignitor as an aux launcher is also quite inventive. They suck rulewise, a noob tube always adds to the visuals of a gun, suitable for a Skitarri.

I'm very excited, that Cadaver, you and me are converting Vostroyans at the same time. Can't wait to see them all next to each other, painted and all.

I should probably thank Zinge for the exterminator idea, which left the igniter at the bottom to turn into a grenade launcher. Zinge's hand flamers are very cool...which reminds me I need to place an order.

So please check his stuff out here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/349840.page or http://www.freewebstore.org/zinge-industries/index.aspx?pageid=658634

As for the hellgun as soon as I saw the model I thought it was a lasgun converted into a flamer. As for the aux grenade launcher sucking.... having two krak grenades stowed away for that time you run into a chaos space marine, priceless.

Yeah Cadaver's use of the snipers is great...I'm rather fond of his bounty hunter...beardy. As for your henchman it is so cool....I've stolen an idea from your model for a future scavvy! Sounds like a plan...should have the Skitarri painted in the next month or so lol.

You mean, Dogg the Bounter Hunter? Haha I think he needs a proper name actually, I was in a hurry to name him pre-game and Dogg was an easy choice.

But I'm psyched we are all working on Vostroyans and yet still coming up with unique ideas for the models. I really want to get some more converting done this weekend, but it may be time for me to get the brushes out and see how rusty I am. It's been almost 2 years since I've painted a model and I think I'm gonna keep putting it off if I don't just sit down and paint something. And that needs to happen cause I got a copy of Space Hulk last week and I have big plans to do something different with that so I need to get my skills back on track before I dive into it.

neil101 - 170!!!! Christ that must have been a fun sunday morning! But when you want a swarm of Scarabs what you gonna do.

Molotov - It looks ok from a distance...but I think I may want to go darker on the metal side of the skull. The ridiculous close up was just for fun and avoidance. I'm getting to the stage where I'm trying to put off doing a cog symbol round the bottom of the cloak and the hood (in bleached bone) and glowing effect lenses from the face and the shoulder mounted lasgun.

Baiyuan - Ha Ha Ha you caught me, I even saw a friend last night.... I'll go paint now . I though of all the people on dakka you'd enjoy the tiny teaser the most

Vitruvian XVII - I used the image below for reference and think I may have gone a bit bright on the metal side of the skull. I'll rework that a little this morning (see anything to postpone painting the cog symbol). Otherwise I think its close enough or am I missing something?

And yes I appreciate a teaser, I'll make sure to post preview pics of toenails in the future, just to get back at you.
And by the way I was lazy myself yesterday. I changed the varnish on Adalhard, then started redoing the skin tone on my Delaque, got frustrated after 20min and went on to play DOW2:Retribution. Damn games...

It was so tempting to give you a pre-emptive strike toenail shot. But its a lot of effort to get the camera off the table behind me. LOL

Just felt a bit bright next to the white side thats all.

    First up Molotov -

Vitruvian XVII - indeed you were right.

    Magos Militant Helexus Spur

Magos Spur has worked his way up the ranks of the Mechancius to the peculiar rank he currently holds. It was during his time as an Enginseer, attached to the Gelthan 8th Mechanised division, that he came to the attention of the Mechanicus Militant. The Gelthan 8th were part of a campaign to bring the Forge World Velt back under Imperial control. The 8th were cut off from the main offensive with malfunctioning comm gear. Using his knowledge of Mechanicus facilities Enginseer Spur liaised and advised the Galthan’s commanding officer. A sustained and underground war was fought within the factory temple complexes. These successful guerrilla raids were able to disrupt the enemy’s production of war machines. During the final stages of the battle Magos Militant General Grul and a force of Skitarri reinforced the supposedly doomed push into enemy territory, knowing the enemy were in disarray. Spur had secretly managed to contact Mechanicus forces. For the remainder of the campaign Spur was taken under the wing of Grul, who saw real potential in the young tech priest for hunting down cells of hereteks. With the campaign successfully ended Spur was apprenticed to Grul.

Grul, being a war general and not an investigator, posted Spur to a number of Magi Militant of more clandestine sects over a number of years. During his apprenticeship Spur learnt his trade of protecting knowledge and methods of pursuing rogue tech priests and hereteks. On completing his apprenticeship Spur was given the title of Magos Militant. Whilst holding the rank of Magos, Spur is not actually part of the Mechanicus hierarchy; it is more of an honorary title but he still welds its power, useful in his specified task: the protection of knowledge. His actual ranking would equate to Tech Priest Secutor. Spur has no desire to improve his rank as he has found his niche, besides the power he welds is immense. Magos Spur is often used as a trouble shooter and a preventative; he is often employed by Forge World Fabricators to eliminate nuisances, before they become problems, or to rescue knowledge from forbidden groups, cults and places.

Magos Spur is widely travelled and thinks nothing of using whatever tool is required for a given task. He is known to use both un-augmented humans and bionically enhanced warriors in his entourage. Unlike others of his ilk he seems to understand that the Mechanicus are often feared by humble Imperial servants and those outside Imperial rule. He often employs local humans as liaisons but for investigators he has a core of un-augmented who have proven themselves (to an extent as they are only made of weak flesh).

His methods range from precision strikes to blanket bombardments, whatever he deems the best technique. During one investigation he had a whole factory of indentured workers turned into servitors to root out the heretics. When the heretics became known he did not countermand his previous order for he saw it as a dire warning to others, with ideas outside their station. The servitors brought a profit to the Mechanicus, even after the factory was restocked with workers.

Magos Spur and his retinue are currently investigating the destruction of Forge City Talrem Iota’s - Laboratory Delta Six by suspected heretechical Dark Mechanicus forces. This investigation has led him to the Agri-World of Argzin.

    Praetorian Battle Servitor 985626

On completion of his first unaccompanied investigation Spur had the cowardly tech heretic Vys sentenced to servitude. His mind was wiped of all knowledge and his proscribed bionics were removed and destroyed in the blessed plasma furnaces of Forge World Estaban III. The remaining flesh sanctified in blessed machine oil. Newly forged uncontaminated bionics were grafted to the flesh and his mind installed with combat algorithms. Praetorian Battle Servitor 985626 marched from the Machine Temple.

Thanks to Molotov for his inspiring work and website. Thanks to Neil101 for the turquoise because I was totally stumped.

Well I finally finished them. I'm quite happy how Spur turned out, through towards the end I kind of lost interest. During the painting stages I realised there were areas I wish I'd done differently, eg replaced the power claw. This could quite easily be Mk1 (but MK2 is no where near the horizon). I'm really happy with the glowing green lenses, the head in general and the skull on the axe. The attempts at glowing white plasma not so great and I'll go back to it, perhaps. The cog lining to the cloak is good in general but I've messed up the angle on one of the recesses. Oh well

The Praetorian Battle Servitor on the other hand is imo just perfect. I'm very happy how the accidental model turned out.

So whats up next I need to paint the Skitarri. I've also found some bits in my bits chest to build a servitor or possible some sort of mech gladiator (this depends on just how much character the miniature has when built). The torso is the old chaos marine havoc squad champion with Bad Moon Warlord Nazdreg's power pack. So far I'm stuggling for legs...flagellant legs were my first choice but don't look right. The arms will be Ungor with the forearms unsurprisingly replaced with an ork chain sword and perhaps an electro flail.
The best pics I could find with a quick google search.
    Spoiler:

The finished Spur looks fantastic Peter

The claw looks fine, it really works with the character's pose. Very nice painting, as per usual, like the hazard stripes on the babt claw, and the head is way cool

Kudos Peter, Love both models and the story too, its really nice to get a grasp of him ,i can just imagine him turning up on Praxus to purge out some Imperial Vulgus Reformationists. Omnissiah forgive them, for they know not what they do.

The green eyes on Spur work really well with the dark red cloak ,mechanicus cloak and the Orange bone and gold are also great complimentary colours too. The turquise really gives the back some focus , and leads the eye to both the left and right equally, i cant fault you on your colour choices they are perfect , the detailing around his robe is a nice touch , i especially like the way it frames his face on the hood. Also like the way you mixed up the metals with the nmm black, something i may steal for my Actaeon model. the only critiques i can mange are the plasma glow and the mithril silver of his rounded gun case. the silver seem a bit bright compared to the rest of the model, but i guess thats because he cleans his weapon , like a good idolatrous heretek. He is a rather complex model , so congrats on getting the impetus to finish him , those tiny wires look a bitch!

and his sidekick Praetorian Battle Servitor 985626 is just fantastic , the palid skin tones and gun metal grey of his mechanical body augments make for some subtle highlights that work a charm, lifted ever so slightly and made even more industrial by his hazzard stripes. Rounded off with the great metal chipping on the red paint . cool basing on both . and you managed to keep them unified through the muted colour scheme and hazzard stripes .
Really nice looking pair, i bet Spur and 985626 look cool on the table top. fantastic work on the basing too.

Vitruvian XVII - Cheers. Its not that I dislike the claw. I just wish I'd replaced it with something else. It reminds me too much of Ikit...Claw (who'd have thought it )

monkeytroll - Thanks. The hazard stripes were a on the magos. I repainted the large claw plain because I just couldn't get them to work. The bady claw just seemed like the right option... since I doubt he can carry much in a lightning claw/plasma gun combiweapon lol.

neil101 - I'm sure he would....hmmmm more servitors....mmmmm Praxus Mk32 Servitors would raise a lot of cash for the Omnissiah.

Green eyes work on all tech priests having looked at the Dark Heresy books. I'm happy with the detailing round the hood, its folded back and that design is actually on the inside, hence its facing the wrong way. Since he is in a combat stance I imagine he has folded it back so not to block his line of sight. The NMM are actually just grey I'm afraid to say. I wanted the plasma barrel to look different, hence bright sliver (Mithril and White), it could probably do with some blackening/soot staining. The wires, lol, each one is a different colour and chosen from a good old google search for wire bundle....
    lol

The Praetorian was simple and fun. The chipped metal technique should look good as it was taught to me by a GD winner. Paint the whole thing in metal, highlight etc and then paint the chipped coloured paint over the top.

    Neil said:

I really don't see why not...you only live what two hours away and I bet the train would only cost about £15-20 advance day return (£17.80 according to the train line). I reckon he'd look good fighting over your Praxus terrain. We'd have to do a battle report for Dakka though. Oh and I'm CRB checked too

CURNOW - Cheers. That is a nice model...I'd say the spherical warp generator would need replacing/modifying. I was looking at it the other day as a possible apprentice for Spur.

    Oh boy, I'm torn...
First of all, great work. The painting is good and you've included some nice ideas, that make the magos very special.

That being said, a short list of things I particularly like/dislike:

Robes (nice red, muted yet powerful)
Armor (could do with smoother blending, but black is a pain in the ass, I know and probably wouldn't do any better)
Gold parts (nice tone, not too shiny, not too dull)
Cog lining (great contrast, neat execution)
Green lenticulars (great color, solid effect, the OSL imo could be more intense though, I'm thinking of your avatar)

Normal metal parts (especially on the claw, they look a bit flat, almost like drybrushed and could use some more shading)
The turquoise (Generally love the color, but it's too much in combination with the rest, other people will like it, for me it's very distracting and lacks highlighting)
Yellow parts and hazard stripes (Why no hazard stripes on both claws, the plain yellow looks out of place to me and I've seen better hazard stripes from you, they look like you were loosing your patience)
The red on the gun (yet another color and a bit flat too, the shading looks good from front left, but it looks like there is none from the right or back)

More positive points than negative ones. My overall impression is: very good, but too colorful.
The gothic and sinister touch of the robes and armor is lost to the brighter colors of his weaponry.

I hope you can handle the nitpicking, it's no doubt a good paintjob, but we're here to strive for more right? Feel free to pay me back on my next paintjob, I'm looking forward to it.

Edit: Oh and the fluff was very nice! I like to have some fluffy foreplay before shoving in the pics, it adds to the athmosphere.

Just remembered the three test tubes round its waste are full of sacred machine oil....I was rather happy with that idea and how it turned out. Because to begin with it looked like poo.

Baiyuan - Cherry picking through your responses for bits that need replies. Thanks for the nit picking I do appriciate it. The model is very busy and that is why I felt he needed quite a few colours, to give it a "real life" feel as in to show off some of his personality:

  • Armor (could do with smoother blending, but black is a pain in the ass, I know and probably wouldn't do any better) - was a on the magos. It turned out much better on the larger surface areas of the servitor.

  • Green lenticulars (great color, solid effect, the OSL imo could be more intense though, I'm thinking of your avatar) I couldn't do it like my avatar because the surfaces were not there to have the light reflecting off. I wanted a slight glow not a million candle power, which would make him a sitting duck.

  • Normal metal parts (especially on the claw, they look a bit flat, almost like drybrushed and could use some more shading) No dry brushing and the final highlight I did on both the silver and gold parts disappeared when I varnished it. Bloody varnish - sometimes it helps sometimes it doesn't. The mechadendrite holding the large claw is already chipped

  • The turquoise (Generally love the color, but it's too much in combination with the rest, other people will like it, for me it's very distracting and lacks highlighting). I'm fond of the colour and I like it on this model, it breaks up the monotony of red and grey. I don't see the magos going round thinking oooh the pipes on my back pack don't match my robes etc. As for high lighting it is subtle and lost on the picture. I promise its there in the flesh.

  • Yellow parts and hazard stripes (Why no hazard stripes on both claws, the plain yellow looks out of place to me and I've seen better hazard stripes from you, they look like you were loosing your patience) - guilty as charged, I lost patience with the model at this point. The large claw naffed me off something rotten. The little claw is actually just ok. I just couldn't get the lines to work. I really should go back and redo the large claw. The little claw doesn't look that bad when you're not massively close up.

  • The red on the gun (yet another color and a bit flat too, the shading looks good from front left, but it looks like there is none from the right or back). Again there are highlights on it but not in the picture lol. The "extra" red on the shoulder mounted lasgun is important. It is the same colour as the red on the servitor. I didn't want to paint the cloth robes and the metal in the same colour because I felt it would be unrealistic.

  • Molotov - That sounds like a great idea. I've always wondered what it would be like to have a Campaign where agents of the Inquisition etc on other planets effect the story line. eg Inquisitor A raids a cult head quarters only to find that three months previously a group left the planet to perform some ritual on the other side of the galaxy. The inquisitor is too far away to catch up so has to entrust members of the ordo elsewhere etc. Depending on the success of Inquisitor A will affect how much Inquisitor B knows about the ritual etc. Hmmmmm thats got me thinking I may have to flesh that out.

Guess I'd really better get on with painting my actual gaming table then....its desert theme MDF at the moment. I want one side to be industrial grey.

  • Makes sense, I'm not a big fan of too bright lenses too. I've always found it ridiculous to put on night vision goggles that make you become a lighthouse (I'm thinking Splinter Cell and the likes.) But just like in Splinter Cell it looks cool normally.

  • Normal metal parts (especially on the claw, they look a bit flat, almost like drybrushed and could use some more shading) No dry brushing and the final highlight I did on both the silver and gold parts disappeared when I varnished it. Yeah, subtle highlighting is an ungrateful thing, people tend to complain about it because they are harder to perceive.
What you call monotony one could also call limeted palette and in my book would have added to his overall impression of being a badass mofo.
The color is a matter of taste of course, as long as you're happy with it it's fine.
The point about him not thinking of matching colors is a bit difficult, with that reasoning you could have painted him lemon green and lip gloss pink. Setting such a small contrast is more an artistic decision, than a matter of fluff reasoning. But again, you did it for good reason and you're happy with it, so I'll shut up.
Also I have to admit that it's the zoom that makes one be that hard with a paintjob. The turquoise works much better when zoomed out.

  • Yellow parts and hazard stripes (Why no hazard stripes on both claws, the plain yellow looks out of place to me and I've seen better hazard stripes from you, they look like you were loosing your patience) - guilty as charged, I lost patience with the model at this point. The little claw doesn't look that bad when you're not massively close up.

  • Hah! Gotcha. Leave him alone for a week or two and then consider giving the stripes another try. You might decide to leave it as is, which wouldn't be that bad either.

• I've expected a similar answer and it makes sense.

Baiyuan - he will be left well alone until the Skitarri and the mech gladiator are completed....he may even be left alone after than. But having looked at the pictures (and listening to you ) I really want to:

  • re-hazard stripe the large pincher

  • add some scorching to the plasma barrel

  • redo the glowing plasma in the barrel

  • re highlight the metal.

  • Hmmmm lemon green and lip gloss pink...make me think of some bloke called Max, ahem. I actually thought about the colours and I actually see it as background reasoning as well as an artistic decision. I was stuck for the colour but really didn't want to do black. It would have been grim and dark but I really don't think colour combinations would be considered by a tech priest, they are beyond it. Anyway as you said you'd shut up so will I too

Thanks for the comments though I really appriciate them.

    Cheers

Well I'm still struggling to find legs for the mech gladiator. His face has too much aggression for him to be a servitor. So any suggestions for non power armoured legs, that will fit a small space marine torso, would be appreciated. Preferably with the left leg forward. I'm really open for suggestions.

Baiyuan - Hmmmm Goliath legs might actually do the job....the boots are awesome. The Strigoi vampire got me excited for moments - then I remembered just how hideous the model is (I don't believe those models are still on sale). Oh my god I also don't believe Immortals and Pariahs which are just "troops" cost £8.70 per model...somethings not quite right!

neil101 - I reckon that model will be too small. Its quite interesting though.

As for playing.. my mum won't let me come because you're not crb checked. Not having played before isn't really an issue...its easy(ish). I played with myself in the privacy of my own bedroom...that is to get the hang of Inquisitor . It looks harder than it is. It would be a good excuse to finish some models and actually do something with them (for both of us). As for what I have in mind all we would really need would be about three foot square and the terrain you've been showing off would be much more than adequate . Mmmmmm pub. No rush mind, since I'm no where near finishing Spur's warband and we'd have to come up with scenarios etc. We can continue this discussion at a later date.

superspud - Cheers mate. I've not spotted any new Orkes from you recently.

Scarper - Yeah Bloody Baiyuan's Bloody eye for detail . Bet he doesn't sig that one I'm proud of it but I'm feeling guilty because I should have persisted and got it right...rather than made do.

You weren't by any chance listening to Cradle of Filth when naming the howling stars? I was going to put a link to youtube Beneath the Howling Stars (live) but the language was shocking! "Meet our new Keyboardist. The sinister minister: The loving, Monk :bleep - Lector!"

Just so we are clear I've never been into Cradle of Filth but my next door neighbour in halls was unfortunately obsessed.

Well, it all started when I created my DIY Space Marines, the Castigators (you can read about them here.) Inspired by the Badlands from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, I created the Howling Stars as a lawless area that the Castigators could watch over. Then when it came to creating a setting for my INQ28 campaign, I created the Dalthus Sector, which bordered the Howling Stars (and no, no CoF connection!) and the remote planet of Nova Castille. I envisaged it as sitting on the outskirts of the sector, and stylised the sector capital of Dalthus Prime as "Far Dalthus", spoken in an almost derisory way. Now, with The Higher Call, my DH-inspired forum roleplay, I've been fleshing out the Hyades sub, one of the Dalthus Sector's sub-sectors.

So yes, it's certainly interesting that we've had such similarities - but I see it as a good thing! Perhaps Adorno and Haxtus can go against one another one day, both after the same proscribed artefact...

    I like your sectors evolution.

Which Segmentum the Dalthus Sector in?

I had a look at the Higher Call when you "linked" to it on your blog. It was a pain to find since it seems the ammo bunker doesn't do direct linking. It looks interesting but I've not had a proper chance to look at it. How does it work?....do you actually roll any dice?

So yes, it's certainly interesting that we've had such similarities - but I see it as a good thing! Perhaps Adorno and Haxtus can go against one another one day, both after the same proscribed artefact...

That would be a lot of fun. Maybe a story arch with both investigations taking place simultaneously gaining information from different sources leading to the same prize. Then a final show down to get the prize...depending on what happens in the initial investigations depends on who arrives first/knows what it actually is etc. This sounds like quite an interesting plan for the future...

When are you fighting over Nova Castille's spaceport?

Dalthus is in the Ultima Segmentum, as said earlier. As you seem to do too, I've left the sector floating around somewhat in order to prevent it being too locked down. Most of the fluff I tend to work on is internal - in THC we're going to be going over a number of differing worlds - to begin with, my players have been working on the Hive world of Hyades (Sub-Sector Capital) but I've figured out most of the areas of the sector (for example, the Forgeworld of Mutara and its associated worlds) and the Eldar craftworld of Kuraan-Bal. I'll be sure to keep you updated!

Although Ammobunker can be a little funny with linking, clicking on my signature should still take you there, even if you don't have a membership. Although some "pbp" (play-by-post) games do roll dice, and effectively play the same as DH, we play a more narrative style which is effectively more like working on a collaborative story (only it has a GM who has EVIL PLANS!)

The spaceport game probably won't be happening to August, alas. However, I'll try to let you know!

Mol - I totally missed the bit where you said Ultima Segmentum (I just reread what you wrote and ). If you guys come up with as much interesting background for your planets as the Dark Heresy books have for the Calixis Sector... that would be one hell of an interesting read.

THC sounds better now. Next time I cannot be bothered doing anything I'll have a proper look through. I'm really trying not to let myself procrastinate on the internet for vast periods of time these days.

Heh, I could potentially do so; the players on Ammobunker are playing Septimus Cell, belonging to the Lady Amaranthe. Theoretically, it means that there are seven of them (at least!) so I did previously entertain thoughts of running a concurrent thread on a separate forum and having the actions in one game impact on the actions of another. At the moment, my players are in the midst of their second investigation - they're going to be heading off-world soon and getting embroiled in a sector-wide plot involving a dead Rogue Trader. We've been playing since January, and are on Episode 2 - and I have plans for 14(!) more.

At the moment, however, I'm in the midst of my teacher training, and SWMBO keeps me on a very tight leash. As much as I would love to run two games, I think it would be almost impossible. I'll think about it, though!

xXH0LYCRUSAD3Xx - I'll bare that in mind but I'm rather fond of the dark grimy/grubby colours themes running through my models. I envisage the 40k universe to be dark and dirty so that comes across into the painting. Do you have any particular detail areas you think need brightening up and what colours do you suggest? I've always been tempted to try and paint a "Red Era" chaos warrior for fun...now that would involve shockingly bright colours.

The Good Green - Ha it is amazing and the only reason I still own a Mega Drive. My sister and I still get together to play Toejam and Earl occasionally. When we finally completed it we were kinda disappointed and elated at the same time. We also did Toejam and Earl 3 on the Xbox which was fun but not quite the same.

Knobibrot - Thanks. The trousers on the nob go a little something like this...

Base coat 1:1 Scorched Brown and Khemri Brown. Followed by Badab black wash.
2:2:1 Scorched, Khemri and Kommando Khaki applied to the raised areas.
Add more Kommando Khaki for next layer and onwards.

I think I know the game with the caveman, I played that on my aunt's pc all day long whenever I visited. It's "Prehistoric Man", isn't it. Great game from what I remember.

About megadrives, my parents had allowed me just one console and that happened to be a NES which I got for christmas. So before buying my own PSX I only owned a NES and a GB. I loved Golden Axe on Sega and I was so jealous of anybody who had a Mega Drive or SNES. I actually only kept on visiting and staying over night at my very first girlfriend's place because she had that Mario game with Yoshi in it, little did I know that she was interested in playing with other things, while that was completely lost on me and only got on my nerves. Such innocence... (In my defense, I was three years younger than her.)

Scarper & monkeytrol - l Ah I should probably have pointed out that I've been trying to photograph this model since November. The picture above is fine and the first one where the gloss hasn't shone too much. I was commenting on the process/challenge rather than the model itself.

Yet another wet weekend. I'm hoping the weather improves for the BBQ I'm going to tomorrow.

I've been inspired by Molotov's Inqinvitational event he is planning for next year. So its time for a new Inquisitor Warband this time set in the Dalthus Sector. Originally I planned to go puritan with a female monodominant (who likes to burn everyone). But we all know radicals have more fun....in fact I can see this warbands end will be as excommunicate traitors....or maybe something worse. We'll see as the story unfolds.

For my 30th birthday I was given £45 in GW gift vouchers and decided that they would fund this project. I'm planning on having about 6 members to this warband. First up is my Inquisitor based on this:

    Khorne Lord in Finecast

    Spoiler:

This is my first finecast model and it has some good and bad points.

    The Good:
Its oh so easy to carve and cut. Taking the horns, khorne necklace, khorne icons on hip armour, reducing the length of chainmail tabard, removing the chainmail under his arms, taking off the ork skull and removing some of the cloak took neck to no time. It would have been such a daunting task in metal I doubt I'd have bothered.
Filing the material was also easy and didn't damaged it.

    The Bad:
Its too soft (except when I'm cutting bits off ) The right shoulder horn was bent. So I bent it to the correct position with and without heating it but each time it just moved back to the way it came. I thought I'd test it before cutting it off.
I've got a few air bubble in the bottom of the cloak and around the soles of the feet. (Not so bad to fill)
Some awkward mold lines and such (but you get them on most models so again not a big deal)

I have to say I'm quite pleased with the new material but I hope they make it a little less flexible.

So I now have my base and need to decide what to do next...

Well it stopped raining so I made the most of getting outside

I've only done a little more on what will go where. Currently it is all tacked into place.

My thoughts on it so far:

The head is perfect, the pipes etc really changes the fantasy archetype. The fangs in his mouth will be removed.
The round buckle fits and is a definite.
The square armour plate under the buckle looks a little odd, but I like the idea. Suggestions are welcome.
The power pack...cut straight from a Space Marine backpack looks perfect again changes the fantasy archetype.

Its a start and I have more plans to make him look less fantasy.

Sageheart - Perhaps a little redundant but no the vicious head has been replaced...for another vicious head. Its worth noting, about the skull head, I've seen it in both metal and finecast and it looks so much better in finecast. I no longer think its a helmet but a skull face mutation.

neil101 - Cheers, a long way to got yet. Fantasy models are perfect for 40k...they just need a few alterations and weapons and jobs a good um. As for going back to the roots....well I know GW have changed it but I will always think that the Warhammer World is at the centre of the eye of terror.

Baiyuan - I am planning on turning the chainmail into cloth anyway so I'll probably just get rid of the plate and I might go with a brazier of some kind or other. I'm probably going to avoid to many purity seals on this guy...he aint that pure...parchment would be ok....nailed on.....hmmmmm I like that.

inmygravenimage - As I said above with both your suggestion and Baiyuan's I quite like the idea of a brazier. As for GK/DA bits I'm actually ok. Thank you for the kind offer though.

Yggdrasil - You are wrong...I only used GW paints. Though all the paints I used are now OOP. Base coat of Ghoul Grey (grey blue/green colour) (It lasted about 17 years, I bought it when I started out in the hobby). Ink wash of mixed Green, Brown and Black (or as I refer to it - Nurgle Wash). Dry brush with Ghoul Grey, highlight with ghoul grey. Very thin wash of Nurgle Wash, Highlight again ghoul grey. Then another highlight with ghoul grey and elf grey. I'm glad I keep a recipe book of colours. As for the colour contrast I'm very much inspired by the Realm of Chaos: Lost and The Damned book.

How about skin instead of parchment? If anybody asks he could claim it's from some animal, no need to tell that it's really from a relatively intelligent and hairless biped mammal. You could give him a collection of scraps of skin with =I= "printed" on them, a trophy for everytime some puritan confronted him with being radical. And again if somebody asks, it's just shreds of leather that show his deep bond with the holy inquisition.

I have no idea what that vid was about but it made me laugh.

It's one of the less good clips from Nathan J. Barnatt, an ingenious californian guy who has been making stupid videos for quite a while now. His most famous character is Keith Apicary, but I especially like his dancing and stunt skills, what a glorious freak!

Ok minor progress or perhaps I've gone backwards. After taking some advice elsewhere I've dremmeled off the boot tops, to create armoured shin pads (in the style of Inquisitor Corteaz). I will add a couple of mm to his height around the ankles at the same time. I may regret this when I've sobered up. lol

Baiyuan - Skin for partchment may very well work...it would still have to be nailed on. Does that chap really only have one leg?

monkeytroll - Lets all damn Baiyuan - its a fun game for all the family. Damn his weaponsmithing!

Edit - Now kids remember you should only use dangerous tools (like a dremmel) whilst sober. Its like when your Dad tells you not to put a knife in the toaster, whilst he has a knife in the toaster.

I really like where he's heading - amazing what some well placed vents and dremelling can do to a fantasy model. Totally appreciate that it's not easy though, you just make it look that way! Have you thought about some thick cabling around the shoulder joints?

As to modelling after a few beers, I hope it works for you! I've made some... uhh... ill-advised decisions... last time I modelled after a night out And I still have the scar to prove it! Great for creativity, less great for detail work.

Wicked conversion- I painted that model as-is for my bro's WHQ guy when I first got back after a decade-long hiatus... that conversion is looking sick though.

Could I ask- where'd the head come from? And what're you planning for arms/weaponry? +1 for Brazier, too. I like that idea.

Bah, nonsense! Half my Death Guard army was modeled and painted while drinking/drunk. To be fair, after having a paint scheme down where you can do it with your eyes closed helps when painting drunk.

Oh, and PDH, I'm loving the Inquisitor so far! I thought about getting this model awhile back from my =I= warband, and using the Khorne bits from some CSM conversions, but I didn't think it could be done easily on a metal model. Great to see Finecast is opening doors for conversion opportunities. Can't wait til release Ogryns in Finecast. I'll be all over those for Ogryn Bodyguards for Necro/=I=munda.

    Whoot no hangover

Scarper - Modelling whilst under the influence seems to have worked out just fine (last night anyway but I doubt I'll make a habit of it). I couldn't have been that drunk since I was aware of it being a somewhat foolish thing. I'd never paint when I'd been drinking though. Cabling from the power pack to under the arms is a great idea...thanks

HF Izanagi - The head is from the Khorne Beserker upgrade kit from FW. As for weaponry I'm planning on a double handed daemon sword across the chest and a wrist mounted weapon (not any form of bolt weaponry though). I'll have to cut the left shoulder pad off to reposition it to get the angle correct.

Cadaver - Cheers. I would not be doing this conversion if the model was metal. Ogryn in finecast would be great. I'm looking forward to plastic Mega Armoured Nobs but apparently they will be finecast

So last night I managed to use the dremmel just fine. Today with no substance abuse whatsoever... I managed to drop my dremmel with a drill bit going onto my lap. I've never moved so fast in my life and managed to knock it off my lap before any harm was done to my crotch. I then remembered I have feet too and jumped away just as I heard it hit the floor. So one broken drill bit and ton of relief later I don't have any extra holes...phew. Sods law because scars down there would have been real useful!

HF Izanagi - I've been with Abi five years. I'd forgotten you have to lie to women when you're dating... "Just kissing...No that's just fine"

    Scarper - Lol

prime12357 - I've just got an image of me without trimming my chest hair. lmao...I don't have a gun though

Ok on to the hobby related part of the update. Well I think I've gone two steps back and one step forward.

So this is what I did last night:

This is the pose I fancy him in. Though he will be armed with a daemon weapon rather than a force sword.

I was advised to reposition the shoulder pads and I think I can get away with just repositioning the left one. So off it came. I also took some advice suggesting that since I'm removing the boot top I could add some more height as well. I think I did it wrong. I'm hoping when I start adding armour plates to the shins I'll be able to make them look the right length again. Oh well this project is about learning to take advice and then putting it into practice. I think I should have used thinner plastic card spacers. So I think the shins etc are too long now....burn the mutant! ?

If the worst happens I can file down the boot of the soles.

    Live and learn

I've also decided on a different style of base for this project. Here is the Inquisitors base with a objective marker of some description. What do you guys think? Can I add something else to make them look a little more 40K?

    Peter

I think with armor plates the shins will be ok. Otherwise, I heard elongated shins are the silicone tits of the 40th millenium.

I'm not to fond of the sword position, to be honest. I know it's just a placeholder, but I think it looks to static. Being trained with double handed swords might influence my opinion and I might change my mind when you've really put it together, but so far I'm not convinced.

Don't want to sound as overly critical as I actually am, but the base could also definitely use some additions and I personally would either remove part of that wall, or cover it with something else... err wait, it's supposed to be copplestone right? Hhhm, where are you going with this base? Urban? I don't get it yet. Explain yourself!
So far it's rather plain. I might be spoiled by your other bases, but here's something missing.

Btw who is the secret advisor?

    Spoiler:

as for the base , its nice to see , 40k cobbles, you dont get enough cobbles in the grimdark far future The only thing i can suggest for making more 40k ish is the miniatue on top or maybe the base of a lampost. Pretty jealous of your objective marker. Love those chaos renegades.

Sageheart - I think perhaps a little more steam punk might go a long way. I'll have a look at a cheap watch.

Baiyuan - This process is totally different than normal. I usually just show a finished conversion and then a finished paint job. This stage by stage process has some good and bad points. But I'm hoping it will create a better finished product so please be your usual critical self...but with cherries on I don't want to cry ....actually seriously I don't want to cry.

The Sword. It has been suggested that I move it out from the body and further to his right. Since you are trained with the weapon and you probably own one (what some people keep under the bed heh!) any advice you can give me would be great. I do have my heart kinda set on an across body hold though. Let me guess you/no one would ever actually hold a Zweihänder like that .

The bases. I wanted a change, simple as that. I wanted some cobbles and I like the little resin bricks. The part I don't like with these two is how I've pretty much divided the base in half, it looks odd, I'm also not convinced by the sand. There is definitely something missing. These are test pieces so no worries if I dispose of them. I think I might go back to the drawing board and combine my other bases mech parts and replace the flag stones with cobbles and a few scattered bricks instead of corrugated metal sheeting.

As for where I'm going...you remember that background story(lol paragraph) I did for Pimp My Wizard 40k.....

The ship sat solemnly, in stationary orbit, above the dirty smoke grey planetoid,. Lights from the tallest spires stabbed out into space, though they would soon be extinguished by the explosions and flames, boiling up and out of the hives spires. Fire raged over the majority of the planet’s surface, millions would die before the end of the night. The protectors of the Emperor's realm had failed and the planet would not meet its tithe, for centuries to come.

Neil - Indeed it is from the new PA Grey Knights. I wanted the handle for the daemon sword and work up the arms from there. As for the bases yeah somethings missing. Because these models will be for a gaming tournament thing I don't want the bases to be massively ott, so a lamp post might be a little ott. I saw bits and kits had a severed torso and just went with it. When I got it I was hmmmm what can I do with this?...I think it talks to my inquisitor.

As for that guy...lovely picture, one of my favourites. He is the reason for me buying this part and some scout legs:
    Spoiler:
Doubt I'll get round to it soon though

Do you have a picture of page 129 from the Dark Heresy Radical's Handbook? (I can't find it online but I know you have skills) That page had my favourite recentish 40k painting on and very much the starting block of this project.

My favourite Inquisitor from 2nd edition Codex Imperialis

jackanory- Hey hey I always enjoy it when you come round to visit . How's it going? You all sorted? You've not been playing in your blog recently . Any new scavvies/mutants on the horizon? Creepy Inquisitors are probably the most important part of the 40k background.

Hey PDH! Inquisitor is coming along nicely - I don't know much about swordsmanship, but that looks good to me

As to the bases - I know it's WIP, but I reckon your problem might be that the division is too clean! You've got a precise delineation between the cobbles and the dirt / sand, which I reckon might be what's catching as 'wrong' in your mind. If the cobblestones are either damaged / old enough to have bricks thrown up seperate from the rest, I would bury the others a little more, or at least have an overspill of the sand. I'm not sure if you're going for ancient, ruined cobblestone (in which case some moss or or plant life might look good on the finished product) or damaged urban, but I think a bit more weight of earth might help both

I tried to get some pictures to explain what I mean, but I'm coming up blank. Am I making any sense here? Loving where he's going, anyway

Neil found the pic I was referring to (round of applause please):

I think this sums up this project perfectly.

Neil - I knew I left that request in safe hands, cheers. That torso is from FW one of Sevrin Loth's body guard http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Space_Marines/Red_Scorpions/MAGISTER_SEVRIN_LOTH-CHIEF-LIBRARIAN-OF-THE-RED-SCORPIONS-WITH-HONOUR-GUARD.html

Scarper - No slip up there... you are being carefully dripped clues. The Inquisition as a whole will not be hunting this Inquisitor for a long time. It depends if chaos is all but defeated. Lets just say when all is revealed it will make little sense (unless you're old enough to remember some of the old background) and some people will accuse me of background heresy.

As for that first pic they are actually stalactites...possibly calcium?

Yggs - Indeed...wish I could have a set of tunnels to scale.... though it would be a pain to play through. My hand doesn't fit in the tunnel....I cannot get my model in, his banner doesn't fit. lol

Have you thought about putting the objective marker on a larger base that would allow the inquisitor to be placed on the same base like a removable figure in a mini-diorama. Also, something ot add could be rats with bionic eyes, or tails, or a camera mounted to their back or something... or just any techy relic junk to drop under foot. You could even build some bits of scaffolding up around the objective, like in the one photo above.

I like how these two are coming along. The back vent is a great touch, too.

A bit of a dull update but I'm much happier with these bases. I get to use cobbles and tech, which will be rusty. Better?

The Good Green - I hadn't thought of that but since this is for actual gaming I don't want to go over board. I think the objective marker should be on a small a base as possible. I'll be adding some sort of recording/scanner device to the right pauldron as it goes along. I'm not generally a massive fan of wildlife on my bases (though my scavvy shaman will have a rat on his base). I do like the idea of some scaffolding but I'm not sure where I'd put it on a 25mm base. Thanks for the input it is really appreciated.

Neil - Then I'd doing the right thing by pulling you in and keeping you hanging....its a TRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!

They look better Peter , you did a good job of finding a sewer style grate. I prefer the plastic piece on the left to the one on the right , i feel the plastic piece on the right should encroach upon the base from its right hand side to be less symetrical. maybe some wires?

what did you make the cobbles from? and is that hard as nails / liquid nails as the mortar?

neil101 - Great. Phew. The cobbles are made by Willis Finecast, they come in a pack of 4 thick plastic sheets 13cm x 7.5cm (same as the corrugated metal I've used for the scavvies). I got them from my local railway model shop. As for the bits of plastic they were rough bits I had left over from the scavvies. I thought I'd use them since i wasn't sure this was going to work. I'm not that keen on the left one either...I'll try altering it somehow.

Baiyuan - The scavvies bases were for gaming too, on the whole. These are not much different just with less "junk" on them. I wanted to have a change and paint something a little different. This basing is also what I'd use for my Cities of Death themed Imperial Gaurd army (if I ever get round to doing it). I'm looking forward to them painted and the juxtaposition of the low tech bases with 40k figures.

I know they were for playing too and some of them aren't in fact that scenic, but then some others are.
    Spoiler:

I'm not meaning to pick at your new direction and I can see the motivation behind it, I just hope you won't go ott with the cobblestone/brickwall vs. techno contrast. Don't get me wrong it's a good old combination, but there has to be a hint of each style in the other, basicly a yinyang thing, not too clean a separation. But by including the slightly modern sewer grates you already made a step towards that.
Maybe if we knew more about the background...

    + To: Inquisitor Falstaff
    + Priority: Alpha
+ Subject: Death of Lord Mandred

Thank you, brother, for informing me of the death of the lord and master of our cabal. I am deeply saddened by this tragic news. I was surprised to be included on the list of recipients; I have been gone for a long time, nearly sixty years.

While this news distresses me the timing is fortuitous. My quest brings me back, once again, to Imperial space. I still need to make amends for the atrocity at Algea, I have tracked down and punished five of the perpetrators. The final culprit has returned to the Dalthus Sector, no doubt to instigate a nefarious plot to bring about the demise of yet another world. This time (s)he will not be successful, I will finish the hated creature for the blight it has caused.

With auspicious tides I shall arrive in time for the High Conclave.

    Regards

    Inquisitor Ba’lance

Well I've named the Inquisitor. After the lead singer of the band Coil. I guess a little out of context unless you check out Molotov's Ammo Bunker, Inquisitor on AB, The Helios Succession http://www.ammobunker.org/

If you'd like more of the back story I've been adding that to Pimp My Wizard 40k! http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/376647.page

Here is what I've written so far:

    Spoiler:

Lights from the tallest spires stabbed out into space, though they would soon be extinguished by the explosions and flames, boiling up and out of the hives spires. ***

The green glow of the command deck’s holo screen gave the devastation below an odd clinical appearance. The captain stood out of his command throne silent, aghast at the devastation below, the other human bridge crew in a similar state. The only sound on the deck were variously toned chimes, which rang out unanswered. Only the mono-task servitors carried on unmoved, uncaring and oblivious to the billion deaths.

A buzzer sounded and a blue light flashed, this stirred the crew from their communal shock. The captain composed himself, checking various screens around his command throne. He pressed an assortment of buttons and then the gunmetal grey floor plates, under the view screen began to sink. Steam escaped along the plate seams, an unseen engine moving the floor. With a clanking sound of stone hitting metal steps rose from the recess. Moments later a figure in dark blue robes carefully walked up the stairs, through a haze of steam. At the top of the steps he turned and looked at the view screen. He reached into his robes and made adjustments to a control wand and the command deck slowly went back to its original state.

The figure turned from the holo screen and faced the captain. In a low whisper the figure spoke “Regards, Captain Kerrn. Please get the engines online we will want to follow this ship.” Referring to a dataslate he passed to the helmsman. “How is my Master?”

Kerrn replied firmly “Master Navigator this is not your ship to command. You were monitoring the comm, the Inquisitor was almost dead. We teleported him back aboard as his Interrogator ordered. You know he ordered me to stay in stationary orbit above the Governor’s palace”

“I am aware of what happened and your orders Captain.” Turning again to the view screen the navigator stated “I am also aware that the Governor’s Palace no longer exists... What was the delay in reintegrating the Inquisitor and his fellows?”

Ignoring the callous comment Captain Kernn answered the man’s question “Aye it took eleven minutes, the tech priests are uncertain as to why.”

“Is my master in the infirmary? Shall I go to his death bed?” with what was possibly an amused look in his human eyes.

“No, in his chambers, the report of his imminent death was greatly exaggerated. He marched right out of the teleportarium. Apparently his “fellows” were as shocked at the medics. His armour might be damaged, covered in his own blood, and his face a ruin but he is very must alive.”

The navigator walked past the Captain’s throne, leaving the bridge by the gothically arched blast door. In little more than a hoarse whisper he shouted back “Captain, My Master will wish for that ship to be followed. It was the only one to break orbit during the ritual. Get the engines online now; you will get confirmation from the Inquisitor.”

    ***

The navigator walked down a stark metal corridor, situated on the frigates central deck. The regularly spaced, pale yellow, light from the glow globes illuminated the lonely robed figures. He walked with his hood down, revealing a pale thin face with a black band tied round his forehead. His movements were carefully timed to the throb of the ships power generators coming online. He smiled, knowing Captain Kerrn had ordered the tech priests to start the rituals of awakening. The navigator arrived at a bare metal door, with low gothic numbers stencilled onto the surface. He tapped a code into the numeric pad and the door slowly opened. As the door moved on well oiled tracks, his gloved hands drew his hood up over his head; he knew it was time to hide.

Stepping through the door, out of the maintenance corridor, the ship’s navigator looked up at the ornately detailed, high ceilinged, main corridor, bass reliefs of historic navel victories and radiant commanders, long forgotten, stood watch. This area of the frigate was for visiting dignitaries, so Captain Kerrn had lodged the Inquisitor and his retinue there, twenty two months ago. The navigator could have gone to the Inquisitor’s chambers, as he often did, via the service tunnels; but today he did not have the time to deactivate the sentry guns and other security measures, encircling the Inquisitor’s domain.

Moving past various junctions on his journey to the centre of the ship he walked along the vaulted ostentatious corridor. A work crew saw him coming; his dark blue robes embroidered with constellations, was well known and avoided. The crew stood back against the wall, heads bowed. He knew this was not out of respect but fear, all the crew had heard legends and tales of the navigator mutation. Moving towards them he realised they were a cleanup crew and he took three steps past them before stopping. Looking further down the passage he asked “Crewmen, what are you cleaning from these halls?”

B-blood sire, the visitors have been wounded. W-w-we started outside the teleportarium.”

The navigator nodded and continued walking, hitching up his robe. Through a relatively large quantity of spilled blood trailing towards the Inquisitor’s rooms, already smeared with boot and more interestingly drag marks. The blood was obviously free flowing from grievous wounds, maybe Captain Kerrn was wrong about his master’s condition, though the navigator doubted it.

Following the blood trail to the end of the corridor the navigator stopped at a large wooden double door, taken from the forest world Rodne, stained with fresh blood. Three skulls on a recessed mantle above the arched framed stared down at him. He lifted the large brass knocker, in the image of a saint, and knocked three times. He took a step back and looked up at the vid coders mounted above the door, he even smiled under his hood, though this would have gone unseen by those monitoring him. The central skull above the door hummed into life, a red glow filtered from the lenses, where its eyes would have once been. The skull lifted from the recessed mantle, a plasma pistol incorporated into its neck joint began to charge with a hum. When the pistol had finished charging the skull hovered down to eye level and scanned the navigator’s features. The door opened with a hiss of hydraulics and they entered, the gun skull hovering directly behind the lone man waiting for a signal to release its molten charge.

monkeytroll - Indeed I do want to see his backside etc. I'd agree that it probably aint pear shaped either....but then if it was wouldn't that be the best/most surprising mutation.

neil101 - You're probably right. I think he has beautiful nipples too...though not quite hairy enough

But I agree, Brian Nelson is doing amazing work and I hope the flow of awesome plastic characters continues at a steady pace, cause it's been a blessing for the =I=munda community.

Honestly, its been stagnant for awhile. I drew a complete blank on how to build the left arm, and haven't had a strike of inspiration. The biggest challenge of that model is how incredibly thin the limbs are, and nothing that I thought could work really does, because the scale just doesn't look right. That said, I have every intention of completing the model by the end date - it just may not be to the level I initially set out wanting to create.

HF - Attracted to him is definitely the wrong phrase ....but who am I to talk I want a rear shot. He will be getting a chain axe and a pacifier helm....well I hope the witch hunter warband I do will be all hammer horror.

Last night I did a little modelling (I was waiting for a wash to dry on the Navigator). I started building a Crusader out the Chaos Sorcerers legs (a good friend gave me another plastic chaos sorcerer model, thanks Martin), the below torso, scout arms, hector rex's storm sheild and a daemon pike (think spear), it is only tacked together at the moment.

Yea... just re-read that model. I like my men big, deathly sick, and stinky... *ahem* Aside from that, I'm looking forward to the conversion and paintjob you provide for this figure- the sculpt is pretty damn sweet, I have to say.

As to your female crusader... are you going to mod the armor? The thickness of it will not be a problem, as it's friggin' battle armor and supposed to be bulky. However, will it be a suit that she put on, but not hers? (as the one there has a definite masculine look to it, a standard SM torso might serve better?) I say do it- if I was a woman in the grimdarkery of the far-flung future, I'd wear the most protective gear I could afford and carry the biggest gun my servo-assisted arms could carry.... jus' sayin'.

Yggdrasil - Cheers, the crusader is most definitely not a space marine. I've never understood people making female marines. The crusader is just wearing a heavily armoured chest piece. If I had been more clear I would have stated would it look to much like a marine with a female head. I'll post some pics of the headless model sometime soon and see what people think then.

HF said... I like my men big, deathly sick, and stinky
....you lucky sod, you should be able to pull in just about any GW.

The crusader's armour will be her own...I'll be removing the four pack...possible turning it into a lady abdomen/navel (some curves where the four pack is). If I was in the 41st Millennia I think I'd be hiding behind the person with the biggest gun and thickest armour.

...And I'd still want a big friggin' gun and the thickest armor

The problem with a female crusader (I think) is that the sorcerer's legs are huge, and SM torsos are bulky, too. It would seem to me that the proportions would not look feminine enough to suit a female character without extensive conversion. Regardless, I love the idea, and I have faith in you pulling it off.

    LOL... you sick... sick man...

This I gotta see. I'm thinking of adding some female marines for my 1K sons (and possibly daughters), without the breastification or armored bikini look... but I'm hoping to find that you've got a solid method that works.

And... you might wanna be kinda far from the guy with the biggest gun and thickest armor... they tend to attract a lot of gunfire... and explosives.

Hmmmm I think I should rephrase that statement:

I want to be kneeing on a big golden throne scrubbing the steps with a bionic toothbrush. Behind the custodes with the biggest guns and armour, inside the throne room of the palace itself, at the centre of the most heavily defended system in the galaxy. Ok I think I'm safe unless I accidentally trip over the thrones power cord.

Monkeytroll - I want to make an ordo xenos radical inquisitor with displacement grenades now

HF Izanagi - Dude female marines are wrong. Every time someone makes a female marine the god emperor of mankind kills a kitten! The crusader is only wearing heavy armour and is in no way shape or form a marine....because she is a stinky girl.

prime12357 - You have just put into words my concerns over having her female. I get a feeling she will be having a sex change....but when everything is together I'll still try the female head. Cheers
