INFINITY News & Rumors - September Releases on pg. 414! @ 2011/03/27 15:29:15

Post by: Alpharius

It looks like we've finally got enough momentum to get an ongoing INFINITY news and rumors thread up and running.

So, we can keep this one updated with the monthly releases, as well as any other bits of news, rumors, etc.

To start thing off, here are some sneak peaks of April's releases:

Haramakis for Yu Jing

Uberfallkommando Chimera for Nomads:

An Uberfallkommando team is 1 Chimera and up to 3 Pupniks...

With two rulebooks inbound and a small pile of Ariadna hotness on my desk awaiting painting, consider me a subscriber.

Damn that Chimera, is almost, I mean almost enough for me to start collecting the nomads, alongside my combined army.

It's a bit of a weird choice for Nomads, IMO.

I know they have the anime catgirl doctor, but the style of the Chimaera model looks more Ariadna to me. The Dog Soldier is Ariadna.

Infinity gives me the feeling that occasionally they let the sculptors make whatever the hell they like, and write up a justification for it afterwards. (See Daktari, Zoe and Pi-Well, Krazy Koalas, Dog Soldier...)

Don't you go dissing the Dogfaces!

I do wish we'd see a literal Drop Bear courtesy of Ariadna though.

Parachuting Grizzly Bears. DO WANT.

Those are the only thing I don't like about Ariadne: them furries. Other than that, a good range.

Der Morlocks are also gene tamperers in the Nomad range. Think Splicers from Bioshock.

Finally find someone to play with Alpharius?

Aye, don't like them either. While the background gives some good reasons for why the woofies and splicers are there, I just don't like them.

I think that the goat-guy is not the Chimera itself. I think that mini is one of the pupniks. In the official forums the users are expecting in next months the Chimera leader and the other two pupniks. Given the name of the unit, they expect the pupniks to be one with a lion head and the other with a dragon head.

Almost maybe?

Empchild is dabbling, and he'll hopefully be opening up a store near(ish) me soon.

Other than that, I think the "paint up two factions and demo them myself" route will be the way to go!

Hello,
From the point of veiw of someone that sells painted minis, and does some "unusual" commisions, furries sell really well. So keep them coming.

Yeah, I wasn't quite sure of that myself, to be honest!

I'm even more psyched for these guys - especially if there's a Lion and Reptile/Serpent version coming - along with the Chimera...itself!

Glad that Nomads were my first faction!

I know, I've been looking at them all and the only ones I'm not sold on so far are Ariadna (furries) and Combined Army (not sure why really). I'm looking at Yu Jing and Haqqislam the most.

The key thing was the 50% off.

I've been thinking about Infinity for years -- literally. I bought the 1st edition rulebook when it came out. The price of models put me off, thanks to the strong Euro vs £.

Now I have three starter armies, which is the big hurdle crossed, and I can add them them a few figures each month.

Lots of people must be the same.

Indeed this was a very clever move to lure people to join in. I have been Infiniting for some years now and have nice collection of yujings so far but believe me guys... every month for the next years you are going to be tempted to buy more minis for your faction... every couple months theres something tasty and new for you to buy for your army.

Ok, so... rumors...

I think that is obvious that this month we are going to get the Haramakis 4 mini box and the Chimera & Pupniks.... box? maybe?
Two 4 minis boxes in the same month? that is unusual for CB. Probably the Haramakis and 4 other blisters, and the Bakunin Uberfallkommando for the next month. I´m just writing my thoughts here.

Blisters speculation:
- Hussein Al Djabel, the Fiday Hero.
- Patroclus from ALEPH.
- Reverend Custodiers for Nomad Army. (because every month there is a cheesecake)
- something awesome with a dirty base and a big gun for Ariadna... I don´t even care what, just make it cool and I´ll buy it.

I'm pretty certain he's referring to female models, but I have no idea if that unit is typically female in the line.

Just that term is known as a slang for a part of the female body. I may of course be totally wrong mind.

On topic - Hoping to interest Aurelia into the game if possible at some point, she likes some of the models, but has not seen a faction she likes yet. Probably be a way off though, think I'll wait patiently and watch what is released this year and jump in early next.

I agree on the Chimera + 3 Pupniks being a box set offering, and I can't remember the last time CB did that either, so you're probably right and that Nomad offering is most likely another month away...

Cheesecake is slang for girly pinup style pics. The male equivalent is beefcake. It goes back to the 1950s at least.

The minitures tempted me, the rules intrigued me , the army builder wooed me, my first test match sold me, the 50% off impressed me, and now the community involvement solidified me. I've only been in the hobby for a little over 2 years, so my only experience has been GW (40k, fantasy, BFG) and this is seriously a breath of fresh air. Same here, only adjust some of the dates and such as I am a bit older than you!

I was burned by the Great Rackham Debacle of a few years back - Confrontation was a great fantasy skirmish game with incredible miniatures...that suddenly became neither of those things.

I'm glad that I've since discovered CB and Infinity - more of the same, only on the SF side of things!

The "Infinity Week" promotion in conjunction with Beasts of War AND the 50% off sale was a breath of fresh air in the community, and I'm glad to see it was so successful in bringing in so many new players.

Tbh this was a major concern of mine as well. I got into Confrontation literally three or four months before they announced the changes to the larger scale evolvement of the system that would eventually become the pre-painted horror story.

Loved Dirz and Aurelia had some of the Wofen (still has a couple of the females I think) but we both enjoyed it.

I'm hoping the company will continue to go from strength to strength, and ideally a starter box of some kind will be on the horizon by the time I can jump in.

Of course that isn't a deal breaker, but it was the Dirz/Wolfen starter that finally convinced us to give Confrontation a go.

They hinted larger scale infinity in interviews, but sounded way down the pipeline. It's not too far fetched with the use of something similar to linked rules, but we'll see. The big issue I'd see is keeping the tactics, thematics, and supporting the mini range with anything larger scale. The minis have so much character I'd hate for it to become the anonymous blob of men battlefield.

Hopefully the large scale version is an expansion or something, because I'm only even giving it a thought because it's a smaller game and doesn't require a huge investment like 40k.

I also liked the online army builder, though it was in a language I didn't understand and I didn't see any option for english, so...it looked really cool though!

Looks like they bought a huge pack of that green stuff and they want to sell it no mather how.
The templates for grenade/combat Jump and Chain rifle and light flamthrower are fine, but I don´t see the others in Infinity.
Those bullseyes... what are they for? they don´t look like cammo marker, and the forward obervers don´t use markers in this game.
The flags... completely useless. At least until they release that campaign book and you need to play with that kind of stuff.

I find their walls pretty much useful (and expensive, around 6 € each wall).

...and the upcoming buildings can be also the right choice to make a really playable Infinity battlefield.

Also, they already have two bunkers that could work perfectly in an Infinity table, this means :"they block line of fire".

24 € that is very expensive IMHO. And they are not prepainted.
They also have some toxic ciberpunk river pieces, but, Infinity needs cover, the river does not provide any cover, so you will be spending money in making a huge exposure zone where the snipers kill anyone who dares to cross the goddamn river. (mmm?!... sounds cool...)
So, if the f****ng Aquila Guard or the f****ng SinEater Observant is in the other side of the river, crossing that zone is a suicide.

So, finally, if you want to make a Micro Art Infinity table you will be using... I don´t know... 6 buildings and 9 pieces of walls, that is a lot of money. I hope they make an offer some day.

Yeah all microart stuff is on the expensive side but to be honest the pump station and house module do look sweet for infinity... the walls not so much.

The objective flags and the small geodata markers aren't for Infinity.

The geodata markers would make nice Tau Markerlight tokens, if I'm allowed to say that in an Infinity thread.

The Mini Arts stuff does seem quite pricey.

Having just bought Infinity I need a set of templates and markers. Litko and S6 Engineering do a wide range of markers but the weapon templates are fairly specific.

Yeah, but with some smart use of power-point and some plasticard could undo those costs, and make the game relatively cheap!

Excellent stuff, courtesy of TTGN:

http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/2011/04/07/45416

TTGN wrote:

Corvus Belli have added hologram graphics for Infinity to their Downloads page.

From their website:

All along Infinity’s trajectory in the market, many players have requested the image files of the different holograms of Hackers and Engineers, and other graphic items supplied as acetate sheets, be downloadable for use in conversions or scenery projects.

Until now, Corvus Belli usually has sent image files by e-mail to any players who have asked for them. However, this was not enough, so Corvus Belli, listening to the Infinity Community’s requests, has gone one step further.

Finally, by popular demand, from April the complete range of the different holograms for all Infinity factions will be available completely free from the Infinity official website.

Once all holograms are available to the Infinity Community, the sense of exclusivity provided by the acetate sheets included in the blisters is lost. So, from April the acetate sheets supplied with figures like the Hackers and Engineers will no longer be provided.

This measure is applied to future releases from April inclusively and retroactively to previous releases once stocks run out.

Those acetate sheets with a structural value to the figure, like the wings of the Combined Army’s Iskallers, Drones and Caskuda, and those that have an in-game function that cannot be replaced by a Marker, such as the Combined Army Gwailos’ Nanoscreen or the Bashi Bazouk’s Holoechoes, will still be provided with the figure.

Thank you very much and don’t forget to visit the Infinity site’s Download section.

A kind user by the name of "treslibras" also provided the correct link directly to the new downloads section!

Ahem, if ANYONE deserves to have a 'drop bear' force, it is PanO - NOT the skirt-wearing russian redneck good ole boys werewolves.
They are an Australian joke played on many of the tourists we get (and more than a few visiting military troops) and Australia is part of the PanO faction.

CK with ADlvl3, yes please (that would make nice 'drop bears'.

Ahem.

Ariadna is the faction that has no problems with silly tales!

PanOceania is all about religion.

Thus: Ariadna gets the Drop Bear by default.

Fixed. Despite she has an animal nose instead of a human nose, the face is still better.

Anyway, I like this new mini much more than the older furry Nomad medic. This sculpt is much more detailed.

Not sure about the Otaku wish thing
List of her abilities and weapons
Natural Born Warrior: A miniature which possesses this Special Skill is especially gifted in fighting, with a combat instinct highly developed through many hours of hard training and real encounters. This Special Skill nullifies all levels of Martial Arts in Close Combat, as well as the Berserk Special Skill of adversaries. Moreover, Natural Born Warrior gives the Special Skill V: Courage. This is an automatic Special Skill and it does not require the spending of any Orders or the making of any rolls to use it.

Climbing Plus: A miniature with Climbing Plus is specially equipped or gifted at climbing. This Special Skill functions automatically and allows the miniature to climb as many inches as his MOV Attribute, with no need to make a PH Roll. The Climbing Plus Special Skill allows the figure to perform other skills while climbing or hanging from a great height (Climbing+BS per example).

Total Immunity: The miniature is immune to all the special Weapons and Ammunition (Except Adhesive, E/M, Monofilament and Plasma), which are considered as normal attacks

i-Kohl: Special Skill based on emission of a range of designed pheromones and other powerful biochemical substances which saturate the sensory receptors of adversaries, human or not, who must be in base contact with the user. Level 1. When its bearer is engaged in Close Combat, the i-Kohl provides a –3 Modifier to the CC of all those who are fighting against him.

And she carries: Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, Zero-V Smoke Grenades, Viral CCW
For those not in the Know… She is savagery on the next level…
And nomads have a rep for animal and/ or skin color/Body mods… they push evolution of the human species… well the Bakunin section of Nomads…. Comparable to Darkeldar Haemunculi

Haha it's hard to imagine a lot of the Infinity range is 28mm because they are all that detailed. This one in particular is the rumored (not 100% confirmed, but a no brainer) chimera and the other Ram pic is a Pupnik.

These can be taken in the combination of a Chimera and 0-3 Pupniks making the whole units brutally powerful.

They move G: Syncro so one order moves all 3 and generate only one ARO. They are a PH 13 with Hyper-Dynamics 3, this means whenever they dodge they are a crazy 22PH roll (18-20 are crits). This allows you to move up the field fast and laugh at any shots that are incoming for the most part unless you roll really bad. Pupniks are also... get this.. 1pt per. The chimera cost a laughably low 21pts bringing the total cost for this craziness to 24 points. It is on a very fine line of miscosted, but it does infact gain it's cheap cost from being a CCish unit.

Correct being impetuous they auto-matically run up the field with 2 short move skills. This is a double edge sword because on one hand they move up the field on a free order, but on the other hand they move live a rage induced idiot not caring about cover. Also remember that they are Irregular, so their order doesn't go to the pool of order, but rather MUST be spent on themselves. This means you will either burn that order to make them stand still or they will Impetuous up the field then you use another order to move up closer or try to get in cover.

5deadly wrote:my favorite qoute for the Pupniks

Yeah, Nomads are all about stretching the moralities and imagination of humanity. Bangin a goat won't get you arrested, though some might give ya a weird look.

BlueDagger wrote:Correct being impetuous they auto-matically run up the field with 2 short move skills.

Well, not exactly. The Impetuous order goes like this.
One of the short skills has to be MOVE 4 inches, the other short skill declared can be:
- Attack
- Dodge
- Move again

So you can even declare: SHOOT as your first short skill and then MOVE the obligatory 4 inches. Doesn´t matter the timing of declaring the skills.

BobbaFett wrote:So you can even declare: SHOOT as your first short skill and then MOVE the obligatory 4 inches. Doesn´t matter the timing of declaring the skills.
Don't you have to do a MOVE first if you're using 2 shorts, regardless of the second one? But point taken, they don't have to go double-time up the field. (Could you MOVE + DODGE, for a total of 4"? Or is DODGE only a sort of reaction to ARO shooting?)

Doesn´t matter if you declare one skill first and then the other, during an order sequence all actions happen simultaneously, you can hear this also in the videos.

(Could you MOVE + DODGE, for a total of 4"? Or is DODGE only a sort of reaction to ARO shooting?)

DODGE is a short skill and it can also be declared in active turn. The difference is: if you make a succesfull DODGE roll in ARO (reactive turn) you are allowed to move 2 inches. In active turn, DODGE does not mean any additional movement, because you can make MOVE+DODGE.

Thnx for the correction Bobba, you are right you can use use those combinations in any order: move+move, Move+shoot, shoot+move ect ect. I think it's been debated in the forums if Dodge is allow in impetuous if you are not being fired upon, because it provide a loophole to halt a second movement. Same with order vertical Jump when there is no obstacles.

I actually was remembering reading commentary that the videos got this wrong, that the move part going first (if it's happening), the intent being to make AROs that don't have sixth sense and stuff decide what they're doing before the second half of the move has gone down. There's a very good chance though that I ought to believe you more than some YouTube frothers

The best solution to the no players problem is fin someone else willing to play, proxy stuff, and play a match on a busy game night. As you learn the rules and play a few weeks other catch on and get interested because the density of Infinity terrain makes people curious. We had about 6 players spread across central Colorado 2 months ago, now we are up to at least 20 with more being enticed every week.

That seems to be the way to go. Especially with vet 40k players needing a break. Playing on a busy night demoing the game for a crowd can definitely entice many players. The biggest lure in our area seems to be the low cost of getting into the game and the great look o the minis. Though upon receiving our minis recently, we have been both blown away and intimidated at the detail and small size of the minis.

I won't lie, they make you work for their beauty. They are very simple to assemble, yet take a little more love then most miniatures. In painting them there is a pile of detail on the little guys, but in a game where getting more people into the game is the biggest case, painting comes a distant third.

I have to disagree. We had a conversation in our club not too long ago about this. When someone goes into your club, they are immediately attracted to the coolest looking stuff. It causes that first "ooohhh" emotion. The awe causes someone to look first then start asking questions. So nicely painted armies initially bring that first interest. Then it is really up to the vet gamers in your area to be welcoming and not act like elitist douchebags when talking to newbies. This is what I strongly constantly try to get across in my local area and it has allowed our community to thrive. Even with a strong majority of WAAC lists, everyone is really friendly and welcoming.

Very true, but for a new player I would not emphisize their painting as a priority over assembly and playing of games. Hence the stature of 3rd

I think it's true that these miniatures require....no, DEMAND to be painted well, the cost, the detail, these are like the Bugatti's of the miniatures world.

This can be a drawback, but I think it also speaks volumes about the company and the game. It's aimed at adults (due to the depth of the fluff and content of the fluff) but also to miniature enthusiasts....this is a serious product, that seems to be driven by a company that expects alot from those who want to collect their figures and play their games.

While other companies seem content to aim their products at children, in terms of their fluff and the complexity of their product (rules and miniatures), an attitude like Corvus Bell's is both refreshing and required!

Sorry, didn't say what I meant right. What I mean is to entice new players into your game of choice, present your best. Lord knows I have my huge share of grey minis. I would never stress to someone that painted minis are ever required. Just if you want new players into your hobby, be sure you go all out. Have best painted minis on the best board with terrain. A group in our area has jumped on board and we fully expect to entice new players on our heavy 40k day in our flgs to bring them over to infinity.

NEWS: from Malaga. There was a tournament this weekend and the CB staff showed this: ALEPH Probots

These remotes have the "EVO repeater" option and they have the "Baggage" skill, they carry the army supplies.

K the more and more I look at it the more I like it. The big thing about it that the pics don't really show well is that it looks like it have 4 appendices not 3. Their is two back "legs" that have the big wheels in the back, it's right "arm" is the front wheel, and the left "arm" is the gear (combi or evo). So from the looks of it, it could technically stand up on it back wheels and the backpacks resting on the ground.

Envisioning it in a standing up version gives it a bit more credibility, and this position is it zooming around to match the size profile as the other equivalents. I will say though that it looks like a PITA to put together lol. My experience with the ammo chains is enough to give me nightmares, but it pays off in the end.

Nomad 1: "Oh, no! Aleph Probots!"
Nomad 2: "Quick! Up these stairs."
Probot: "..."

Yeah. Not sure about these new additions to the Aleph range. However, I recently had the chance to have an intro game of Infinity at Salute 2011 and I was totally sold.

I'd previously been put off because I found the rulebook nearly impenetrable (and I still do), despite the appeal of the miniatures. But having had a demo game and got my head around the basic mechanics, I'm now totally determined to get into Infinity.

Which is annoying, because I had previously determined to get into Malifaux and, having now played a couple of games, don't like it anything like as much as I like Infinity.

If you've ever played Dark Heresy or any of the other 40kRPGs, the Actions system, FtF rolls and AROs are very reminiscent of the combat system for 40kRPG, but finetuned for a competitive skirmish game.

I'm in love.

R.

haha yeah I'm iffy on the model, but then again I applaud them for such a unique mini and I'll reserve judgement till I see it in person.

The rules book should really only be a reference tool and nothing more. Learn via tutorials, screw up, ask questions, read infinity wiki, rinse repeat. After a few games you have the majority of things down, but jsut like the first couple dozen games of 40k you'll look back and say "damn it we messed that up". Infinity wiki is your friend.

From Wikipedia:

"In comic books, a pin-up is simply a full-page piece of artwork, most often without dialogue, that showcases a character, group of characters, or significant event, published within an issue, rather than made available by itself as a poster.

In professionally published fan magazines for films and television series, a posed photograph of actors or actresses from the subject matter, but might also showcase specific scenes from the subject matter in photograph form (called stills) are occasionally called pin-ups. The label is very casual, though, as these types of fan media are more accurately described as posters."

Naw they don't keep a long term release schedule public. The typical schdule is the first week of the month they release the product disclosed the month prior while teasing us about the upcoming release. Mid month they fully disclose what the next month product will be. Stand release per month is 4 factions get a new blister or box, alternating who gets left out.

Last month was:
- CA: Blister
- Nomads: Box
- Yu-Jing: Box
- Haqq: Blister

This month:
- ALEPH: Probots (almost certain)

Hey Alphy, if I may make a suggestion, could you change the title of the thread with an 'updated on' field so it is easier to tell when a release occurs? Like the Scibor thread, it is a bit hard to tell when there is something new to look at.

Well there is 7 factions and mercs, and there is commonly factions that get things 2 months in a row. I think Nomads are on month 3 of a release in a row.

Well... inspired by the first part of Neuromancer (and my fixation on Ghost in the Shell), I've ordered my very own Yu Jing army. Most likely going to be a display-only factor, but I can't wait to paint them up in a way that reflects the atmospheric elements of Neuromancer.

Senor Massacre?!?

An odd choice for a release, as I've never been a big fan of the Mercenaries subset, but, a fantastic miniature nonetheless.

I see the obvious "counts as" possibilities if for some reason someone who doesn't play INFINITY (!) wants to purchase him...

So far it is shaping up to be a cheap month for me, so that's always a good consolation prize, I guess!

Hehe sorry sorry, it's just that I hardly play anything anymore, just mostly paint and model. I am much more likely to break out one of my 4 40k armies than start a new game system all together

Plus, I probably put one of Corvus Belli's kids through college lust buying their models with the flimsy "Uhm... I will use it for 40k or =][=munda!" excuse, so I don't think they can complain too much!

Wow, with all the crap GW coming forth from them (price increase, switch to resin amongst other stuff.) I am seriously thinking about jumping over to Infinity.

My only issue is which army to buy?

I like Ariadna, both the Merovingian and Caledonian sectorals as well as Yu Jing and PanOceania (Military order and maybe the Acontecimento). Aleph is also pretty sweet.

If I went with the Merovingian's, I would want to include Mirage 5, if I go with the Caledonian's I would want William Wallace in there...

With Yu Jing, I would want the Oniwaban Ninja, cause he looks so boss, but I am not sure if I should go with a link team of Keisotsu's or Haramaki's? I wish they would release the O-Yori tag...sigh...

For PanOceania, I would mostly go with Military order sectoral filled with Magister knights and Order Sgts.

Does it matter which starter I pick? Are they pretty well balanced against one another?

You can buy a starter force set for 40 bucks, which gives you 6 models. You can DL the rules for free which are 53ish pages long, or order the 200 page hardcover book for 40 bucks which has the rules, but also includes all the fluff for the game.

So to start the game, it costs 40 bucks. I am sure you can just buy 3 models and just fudge about for a little less money, but I'd just go with a starter set personally.

Let me paste here this, because I think it will be useful for you.

BuFFo wrote:1) Is there a copy of the rules I can buy, or are the rules all downloadable?

You can Download the complete PDF rules for free in the official Infinity website.Use this link.

You can also download the PDF Quickstart Rules made by Beasts of War.

2) Also, is there a source book, or something, for each faction that lists their fluff, units, etc?

You can buy the rulebooks. Infinity has TWO rulebooks.
The First one, Infinity the Game, contains all the fluff from all the factions, all the rules and army lists.

The Second Book, Infinity: Human Sphere, is an expansion. It includes new troops, fluff and rules for all the existing armies, it brings the sectorial armies and a brand new army: ALEPH

EDIT
The difference between the books and the free PDF is that... the free rules are just the strictly necesary for playing, the books come with art and fluff. The infinity background is very detailed, some factions are much more than the miniatures. Its HUGE.

3) Lastly, what is a good sized game for someone to learn the game with, like, how many models/points would a beginner need to get into the game? I am looking to buy figures for me and a mate, and would like to know what to get to make that happen for our first games.

I´ll recommend you both to buy starter packs, they come with 6 miniatures and that is enough for the first games, around 125 pts. Tournament games are about 250-300pts wich are usually 10-16 miniatures.
There are plenty of starter packs in the Infinity range, usually two per faction.
I´ll recommend using the quickstart rules and starter packs for beginning.

Also... Beasts of War made an awesome Infinity themed week and they made videos showing the rules system.

Bazinga!

Some models are amazing (all models pictured on this page for example), but then a couple of duds are squeezed in for good measure. One example is the Veteran Kazak that looks like a stringed puppet (maybe you know which one). Overall, PanOceania appeals to me the most, but all factions have their fair share of cool units as well. I haven't tried this game yet, but people who have (very few) seem to like it.

I agree. The game came out on 2006 or 7. The earliest models are clearly the least accomplished...

.
First generation Nomad box

though still perfectly acceptable compared to some modern GW offerings.

The latest Infinity figures are astonishingly good.

Price wise, the Infinity models were quite challenging a couple of years ago, thanks to the strength of the Euro. The latest massive GW price increases make them look reasonable again.

Alright. I barely knew about this game system until a month ago, so I had (still have) no idea what was what. Can't say that there are that many horrendous sculpts though, it's more about weird posing of the model and some design choices that I don't like, but that's a personal opinion. I can still appreciate the quality of the Nomad "furry", for example, posted a while back and why someone would want that, but I don't care for it much.

Haha, that model is so ugly, but I'd say the Minotaurs take the price. The overall spectrum of quality of the GW sculpts is much wider than for other systems. You have complete pieces of gak competing with beautifully crafted minis, while in Infinity it's more like 'really cool' versus 'meh'.

OK, Noob question. How many models does it take to get a decent force that is fun to play? This looks skirmish oriented... just a few models... or am I committed to a cast of thousands as with most 40k armies?

Granted, I know I can proxy, but painting the minis is what keeps me interested generally, even though I like to play as well.

From last page, it looks like 6 is a good start, and then for tournaments you go up to 10-16 models. $200 max, perhaps?

16 models would be a real 'horde' army in INFINITY, and you have to remember that 10 is the max. per group for an Order Pool, so it isn't always advantageous to go above 10 models...

The guy from my LGS did spoke on the phone with CB. They wont be making a new 50% again, that was a very special offer due to the Infinity Week by Beasts of War.
Also, after the Infinity week they are having problems with the stock due to the increase of sales in the UK and USA market. Same thing that is happening to Privateer Press.

Looks like GW is the shipwreck and everybody is jumping to new different things.

Well, we can only hope - although I have no intention of giving up WH40k, I do need to find some Infinity opponents in the UK, there don't seem to be many.

@Gitsplitta - I've bought 5 models, and know which 6 I'll be buying next, this will give me the option to field some variations on a 300pt army, featuring a 'full' 10 men. I'm no expert, but as Alpharius mentioned, 11-14 men might even limit your options, and it is quite difficult to include more than 10, assuming you like cool elite troops and such.

Micro Art Studio announced months ago that they signed a deal with Corvus Belli so they can release INFINITY terrain.

They have some walls and they said that they are making a building, also, they alreay have some generic sci-fi stuff that looks cool for Infinity.

Also, World Works Games, have a lot of really cheap PDF files of printable paper terrain. There is a module named "TITAN" that looks like a shooter videogame, "Quake" style. Cool.

EDIT:
Finally, it looks like the Beasts of War guys ar creating a new Youtube account with a new BOW channel. Now the is THE Beasts of War.

The toposolitario stuff is GREAT for infinity. We've gotten the game kicked off in our FLGS and that terrain is the quickest way to get a battlefield set up that isn't all Grim Dark. Mad props to that guy!

I have printed on heavy stock. Not quite card, more like greeting card (hallmark if you know that brand) thickness.

Other times I have printed on normal paper and glued it to cereal box card too.

Just depend on the durability you want.

Oh, I see, the sticking it to cereal boxes is a neat idea!

I guess you could also take that idea one step further and stick it to plasticard or foam card...I guess that would offer the greatest durability

Some people do that.

Card models are really great. The only disadvantage is lack of nice curves, but those are difficult to achieve in any case.

Actually for new players you will really want to stick to very "box" like terrain since it simplifies the LoF and LoS rules quite a bit. When you get into rounded or funky shaped terrain it can get a little complicated.

I have made some containers. I did paste every face of the container with cardboard and put some empty batteries inside to make the whole piece have more weight and avoid to have the terrain rolling through the batlefield.
I would suggest this to everyone: add weight to the paper terrain to avoid movement of those pieces. In a game like Infinity where Line of Fire and cover is so important the last thing you need is a moving self-concious building.

I would also write here: try to make the whole table of printed textures or try to make the whole table of painted terrain. The mix of both doesn´t work, looks weird.

Next expansion? Yes, probably some news about the campaign book and new troops.

Plastic Miniatures? Probably not now, probably never. They are a metal company, all their machines and moulds are for metal miniatures. Getting into plastic will mean a huge capital inversion. That would be a risky move for them.

I want to like Infinity, the minis are drop-dead gorgeous, the universe has that pleasant 90s anime feeling, the rules are pretty decent. As a game system though, I thought it lacked maturity and playability, especially with a lack of ready-to-play scenarios.
And now they plan to release a scenario book ? I can hear my wallet crying.

Does anyone else find these poses absurd? The models themselves are fine, and actually exemplify quite excellent detail (as well as superb paint job), but the poses are trying way too hard to be unique/sexy. If not for the techno-FAMAS in the Reverend's left hand, it would literally look like a "sexy" dance of some kind-- certainly nothing we'd see on the battlefield! To be fair, INFINITY seems to have this problem in general, and it's not just this model, but it's a shame to see such great character designs marred by their outlandish poses.

While I agree with your observations, we might do well to cut them a little slack.

Obviously it's a fine, subjective line between posed and dynamic. CB sculptors are straying from the ideal course but have you seen GW's latest offerings?

I'll take the Reverend "Disco" Custodiers over the mono pose wracks and grotesques anytime.

Those figures are unrepresentative of the latest from GW. The updated version of that very unit let's you make their own poses, and the figures are generally far more practical-looking (as "practical" as space elf dual wield gladiators can be, anyway):

Further, even the bad old models you posted aren't falling over themselves trying to be sexy, they're just really poorly fit into "dynamic" poses. One thing that GW does fairly well is avoid "sexing up" the poses on their female models (Repentia and old female Commissar aside)-- even Lelith Hesperax, who is wearing a thong, looks like someone who's more likely to stick a knife in your throat than seduce you-- as it should be on the battlefield!

Awesome news, especially about the next expansion and the TAGs!

And especially about NOT going to 'mass battles'!

I really don't have a problem with it, outside of one or two models.

It is part of the Infinity Aesthetic.

I'm sure it helps sell models to their target demographic too, and in the end, it isn't nearly as bad as it could be!

Yeah, it's my least favorite aspect of the female models, really. So many of them are like that.

I'd say you are both over stating the issue myself, while I agree there are some who are sorta, slightly pushing boundries on the 'I want to be sexy' scale, many of the female figs are well designed and proportioned, while in some very cool and interesting action poses. As I would suggest this selection of the female figures shows, of whats left I haven't put a pic up of, many more fall into this style, than the overly sexual 'dance' style you mention in my opinion.

Heck even those I'd suggest are on the edge such as Reverend Moria's, are still in what seems to be some kind of combat pose and fit with the general setting. For me, if we are talking about trying to be too sexy, I'd be thinking of this range myself.

Nothing wrong with any of these for what they are by the way, just saying, if infinity figures all start to seem to be like these girls I'll be able to see where you are coming from, until then, I'm happy with what they are producing for the game.

You are of course entitled to your opinion. However, I find your entire argument flawed. Corvus Belli have made a design decision, and have created a style. WHile it's true that some may not enjoy that style, I think it's a little small minded to label it as a problem. GW has a style that I do not subscribe to, but while it's notmy thing, I wouldn't consider it a problem that has plagued their designs...it's just not for me.

Ultimately, if the range of miniatures doesn't interest you, I don't really understand why you would advertise that point on a thread dedicated to Infinity? The majority of people who frequent this thread enjoy the Infinity styling, and while it's by no means a locked environment, it just seems a little counter productive to stop by simply to air your dislike for the range? Aside from the fact that nobody would really care, you always have the choice to not buy......

Personally, I give feedback so that companies have a better idea of what their potential customers want. Therefore I consider it important to post both positive and negative critiques of things. I for one consider this element of the Infinity æsthetic/design a problem, because I find it silly and embarrassing and wouldn't want to own any model with such a pose. On the other hand, Morathi's Darkest Sin just posted pictures of several other female Infinity models. While some of those do fall into to the oversexualized category I mentioned earlier, with exposed midriffs and the like (one is even called an odalisque, for heaven's sake!), others strike me as much better, while also clear examples of the Infinity æsthetic. The "Avicenna" model, for instance-- while clearly stylized-- strikes me as particularly impressive.

Overall, I think that while the sexualized poses might be part of the Infinity æsthetic, they aren't an essential element of it, and I just want to register that I for one am much more likely to buy models without such poses than models with them.

Corvus Belli offer a wide range of figures for Infinity, all rooted in a manga design aesthetic.

The females range from the perfectly acceptable

to the bizarre

and present a number which could be called "sexy" or seen as female soldiers in figure hugging suits, or bare midriff outfits. (These can be painted over.)

I think there's something there for everyone, unless you dislike the core aesthetic.

Most of the armies have enough options to allow you to pick several female models which aren't in short skirts and disco poses. A typical force only contains about a dozen models.

wow, at least Infinity models have some pose rather than other companies out there...The last GW female that had any pose was Lilith from the new Dark Eldar range.

To me each game has a certain aesthetic and you either like it or hate it. For infinity it is heavily influenced by Japanese animation, therefore you have more sexuality than you would find in say, Warhammer 40k.

40K and Fantasy has skulls galore and little in the way of dynamic posing, at least in my own humble opinion. Blood Angels had some decent posing, and some of the dark eldar range, but I feel like they dropped the ball with the Grey Knight special characters...

Warmahordes tends to have the large over exaggerated armor found in anime as well, so many people cannot stand there miniatures due to this issue and that is their opinion. Often times, I find lately that Warmachine is suffering a bit from what GW is suffering from which is a lack of posing and a rather static and ridged poses.

I personally like Anime, therefore I enjoy both Warmachine/Hordes and Infinity, but lately I have been turned off from 40k/Fantasy due to their aesthetic as well as business practices amongst other things.

As with any game system if you feel uncomfortable playing with a reverand moria figure, the one with the Multi-rifle, than don't play her! They make enough miniatures where you don't have to play with certain figures if you don't want to!

The thing that draws me to Infinity, aside from great rules, is the miniature line. Many of the models have great poses full of character even amongst the basic line troops. I have started both Ariadna and Yu Jing and can say that even the basic Galwegian, Celestial Guard and other base line troops have more character in their tiny metal bodies than many other companies lines put together...

just sayin..

While I can sort of see the point on the 'sexualised' poses, I'm far more taken with the fact that here is a company willing to push the boundaries a little regarding posing, rather than just releasing streams of miniatures in 'Generic Pose A, B & C'... The dynamic posing is a very large part of what makes the Infinity range stand out.

Let me put here some info that maybe could help you in your arguments.

This model here:

Among the Top10 Best selling Infinity models of 2009.

I was in an official Tournament and some CB staff were there, they were talking with the fans and someone said that he didn´t like the Daktaris. Sales numbers were the answer.
This measn that while some people really seem to hate female sexualized models, other people seem to like them and even buy them.
Who is CB going to listen to? the people buying their product or the people writing in the internet?

Ok, so you consider it a problem.....what do you expect Corvus Belli to do about it? I really think you reaction to their miniatures is a minority opinion, and while it's a corner of the market that they may never sell to, I think they can live with that. However, my point still stands, you find it "silly" and "embarrassing"....well, fine, thank you for your opinion, it's logged, now please walk away.....I'm not being rude, but there really is nothing more to be said on the matter....and I'm still not sure why you bothered to post this particular opinion here....kinda like me walking (voluntarily) into a biker bar, just to explain how much I hate bikes and bikers.

Yep, I can see that. I guess, my issue comes from the way he stated his opinion. Calling the miniatures "silly" and embarrassing", and stating that the range has a "problem" are kinda sweeping statements based on nothing but his dislike for the range......a range I might add, that he freely admitted to not knowing well. The whole post came across as very flippant and arrogant (IMHO).

However, I can also see that I over-reacted to his comments......which is also counter productive! We who worship at the throne of Corvus Belli should be shining examples of taking the high road

Of course Infinity range has a problem! The minatures are so freaking amazing that they are making people spend huge amounts of money just to get some of the best miniatures ever sculpted. Its a HUGE problem because they are growing very fast and producing tons of minis and people are buying it more and more...
You guys read it first here, Infinity is taking over your Hobby and they will not rest until you take the jump and paint one of their minis... once you do that your doomed... Someone should stop such "ridiculous" line, its not even funny.

Posting a plethora of "Nice!" or "Cool, I'm buying four!" comments are equally as pointless so why allow one and not the other?

In that case news posts should be strictly news, topics should be posted and locked immediately so they can only be read. Makes no sense to allow only positive comments and shout down everyone else with a different opinion.

Actually I'd say it's more like posting in a topic about bikes, with a less-than-positive opinion about the aesthetic design choices of some bike manufacturers. Could it be considered "trolling"? Yeah, but then again some people define "trolling" as "an opinion I don't agree with", so...for all I care, you're trolling by telling me not to post in a thread about the topic I want to talk about.

Oh look prostitutes in our games!

I think you're deliberately missing the point. It has nothing to do with the names and more to do with the models themselves. The words may have similar meanings but you'd have to be blind to argue that it's the exact same thing. One is a big ugly monster and the other is clearly intended to be titillating, though less-so than some of their other designs...

I actually do like Infinity models but whenever I get around to collecting them I'll be avoiding the miniature anime catgirls, personally. The hassassin model is awesome in particular and probably one of the first I'll buy when I get around to it (I suppose I could have this weekend but I bought into Battletech instead).

I realize that, I read that post already and just assumed that's what you were responding to.

So there's a good chance the company doesn't read the forum on a regular basis...which means he should just refrain from posting anything negative at all. Meanwhile people are allowed to post all the positive comments they want and really gush over everything Infinity puts out even though they likely aren't reading that, either?

And you're assuming that he doesn't tell Infinity that directly, why can't he tell them that through a letter or the Infinity forum...and post it on Dakka in a thread where it's appropriate? Admittedly that's a bit of an assumption and a stretch but I really don't understand why it is we apparently can't criticize Infinity, the holiest of miniature manufacturers apparently considering the number of people who came to their defense for one damn comment that wasn't blind praise.

Are you assuming that he does?

The point I was making is that if he's really that concerned, he'd be better served by either posting on the 'official' Infinity Forums and/or emailig them directly.

That stands a greater chance of being noticed, recorded and considered than by posting here.

I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone from CB posting here in an 'official capacity'.

The slightly outlandish, catgirl-esque aesthetic is a staple of the Manga/anime design. Obviously not all 'Manga', but it's part of the design book that Corvus Belli have been influenced by and based Infinity on.

I think fortunately there are enough of either variety of female sculpt, so you have the option to either choose that type of model or not. Of course the guy is entitled to his opinion, news thread or not this is a forum for discussing miniatures, and he shouldn't bit shot down for it. Well the same could go for any negative comment for any company then. PP doesn't post here, GW doesn't post here, they likely will never know or really care if we say "This model looks like gak", or "Price increases are bs", etc.

I understand the point you're making and I agree. What I'm saying though is that by the same token you should be discouraging positive comments, because it's the same damn thing. The company won't be seeing your comments and won't really give a damn if you're going to buy one, or four, or even any at all, or that you just like the pose/sculpt/etc. but don't play the army, all they really care about is that there's cash coming in. Do you see what I mean?

It just feels like Fetterkey (or me since I partially agreed with him) are being shouted down for finding something to critique, and probably one of the only things with Infinity models that I've seen so far. Maybe you lot like the nonsensical "sexy pose" models, personally I think it doesn't make any fething sense on a battlefield. I see people bitch all the time about helmetless Space Marines not making sense...why the feth would a chick in armor EVER strike this pose?!

Maybe the armor forces her hips to sway? :\ I mean at least she's got a cool outfit, but I just don't get what she's doing here.

This one's even worse!

She's supposedly hacking something and not even looking at what she's doing? And it's not like she's looking away to aim the gun at something either, because she's just kinda staring at the ground somewhere, so...what the feth? And of course, exposed midriff, because as we all know full well this is how all female soldiers and women in general dress. Even in freezing weather, in a desert, or on the field of battle fighting aliens or robots, we have to let that tummy show or else all that working out and watching our calorie intake would be for nothing! But seriously though, this model would have been so much better if they would just turn her damn head to look at the holographic screen she's playing with.

Pacific wrote: I think fortunately there are enough of either variety of female sculpt, so you have the option to either choose that type of model or not. Yes, I realize that and I appreciate that there are variant models so I can assemble a force that pleases me. And thanks, that's exactly what I'm trying to say, this is a forum meant for discussion and I don't think it's appropriate to tell someone they can't discuss something because they're in the minority.

Bit of a nit-pick but PP do post here, at the least in a semi-official manner:

Alendrel wrote:Hi, I'm PPS_Alex. While I've been posting to Dakka purely as a private gamer, albeit one armed with professional knowledge, I do want to address what's been brought up here in my "company voice"....

From the PP sale thread:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/240/370955.page#2910369

And for what its worth, I suspect GW / PP and others do browse the forums - they might not post but that's probably to avoid stirring up a hornet's nest (think how many PMs alone that an 'official' GW Dakka member would get). I would think they definitely do check in from time to time - its free market research at the very least and a fairly good barometer of their customer's feelings - even if they don't necessarily pay attention.

And the topic is Infinity miniatures and I strongly believe everybody is entitled to say pretty much anything about them, the good the bad and the ugly.

On my previous attempt to make a bit of fun of infinity has a "problem" idea I really didn't see much more options to reply to the point of someone stating Infinity has a problem and its problem was not only but also their main artistic choice to follow anime codes... I mean its like I say donuts have a problem because they have hole in it or Dragon ball has problem because its anime There's no way you can answer to that but the fella is totally free to post it if he feels like it... And like it or not this is the thread to talk about it!

THere is no such thing as closed clubs were you can only say good things about Infinity, It doesn't happen here and guess what It doesn't happen on Official infinity forums they are quite open to comments, so please lets drop it.

Yup, pretty much!

The only point I was (unsuccessfully) trying to make was that if something about them has gotten you torqued up, your best bet to effect any change is to talk to the manufacturer directly.

At no point in time did I say "negative comments not allowed".

However, thinking that CB is going to move away from the established design and theme, especially when those particular models are amongst their best sellers... well...

Couldn't agree more. Some of the models take it too far for me, but I won't bash the whole line for it. The Daktari, for one, is a figure that I will probably proxy, as I feel the official one wouldn't fit in with the rest of my force. The custodier, on the other hand, is brilliant and will almost certainly be finding a place in my collection.

The Djan could be walking along and Hacking at the same time and the reason her head is turned.... maybe someone behind her said something to her, or she heard a noise and is mid-turn to look.....

The Rev, looks like she just has all her weight on one leg like she's about to throw something on the ground.....

No idea, I pretty much dig everything CB does.

Also, it appears that in the Infinity universe there are cameras everywhere. I believe in the core rulebook it says something about satellites that can target the dandruff on your head.

So maybe the more "cheeky" combantants will toss an occasional pose for the cameras. Not inconceivable considering the universe/setting/environment.

Without trying to claim that people can't complain, there is a certain question as to what you want to come of your complaint: if you're complaining just because you like to complain, well, there isn't much discussion to be had. On the other hand, noting a flaw perhaps will allow people to make suggestions as to how to fix it on the consumer side, or re-iterate where there is an-unintentional failure so the company can address it.

Put another way: to complain about the "sexy" quality of an Infinity miniature is qualitatively different then, say, a complaint about how GW's Space Marine figures are sculpted as if by people without even the vaguest grasp of how human anatomy works. Why?

-Infinity models are supposed to be sexy.

-Space Marines are (presumably) not supposed to be wildly out of scale with each other (and the companion ranges) nor have Popeye anatomy.

Seriously, read the article from Gutier Lusquiños I posted earlier;

After few attempts, Carlos Torres made an animalistic design, an option used before in some Nomad female troops, as the Daktari, but now it was boosted to the extreme. Those previous designs have human faces with just some animal features such as ears and tail. Now, the challenge was to design a human-animal face that keeps the characteristic attractiveness of the Infinity girls. This ended up as the “Winter Vixen” the version you can see in Concept File-2. Its name comes from the main inspiration for this design, which was the arctic fox.
...
Our other concept designer, Alberto Abal, was in charge of the Chimera’s Viral CC weapon. With this, we want to delve into the idea of an urban fighter, going beyond typical close combat weapons such as knives, swords or axes. We needed a weapon that fitted the “weird” concept of the Chimera, but would also help find a sexy pose for her. So, the final proposal was not a mere sword, but a high-tech bladed chain you can see in the Concept File-2.
...
The pose for the Chimera was suggested to the sculptor by the concept designers, as they know the style of the sexy Infinity girls. However, for the Pupniks, Pedro was totally free to decide which pose to give them, as we all know he has a special talent to sculpt beast men.

The article as a whole has more and is quite valuable to read for an insight into what goes into the design of Infinity miniatures, but I wanted to highlight the above to make it clear: CB wants some sexiness in their minis. Moreover, they do it damn well, a tribute to the quality of their sculptors, who are able to use subtlety to put a hint of sexiness into the Reverend Custodiers. Consider that this is a figure in a completely covering armored bodysuit, wearing rugged boots, a tunic over the bodysuit, armor over the tunic, a fully enclosed face mask and a long, billowing hooded cloak over the lot, that's some sculpting chops!

I suppose I could be snarky and point out that GW's idea of sexy-but-formidable-woman can be summed up in two words (and they are assless chaps), but that misses the point: GW's aesthetic (such as it is) isn't intended to include any elements of sexuality. Which makes it somewhat ironic how comical their attempts turnout when they attempt to inject sexuality and femininity, given that in the grimdark setting GW uses, women are waifs and men are (barely) apes.

Something else to consider: as Infinity is a more true-scale game, they run the risk, when they produce an armored or uniformed figure, that you won't be able to distinguish between men and woman; it is for this reason that the "sexiness", or perhaps better, femininity, needs to be injected. When man and woman are both athletic and proportioned like normal humans, little things like hair and posture become very important,

This puts even more onus on the sculptor when the figures are masked,

There are 2 female ninjas and 2 male ninjas in that picture; it is to the immense credit of CB's sculptors who are able to pull that off while keeping all of them completely covered in their characteristic gear. As an aside, also note how the exquisitely done musculature on the Oniwaban, along with his hakama influenced pants, serve to visually distinguish but also elevate him above the other male ninja, all without breaking the common aesthetic.

So, to make that a bit more comprehensible:
1) CB uses a bit of femininity beyond perhaps what is "realistic", ironically to make the whole setting more realistic, since this allows them to sculpt realistic figures without exaggerated sexual dimorphism.
2) They like it, it helps to define their brand: realistically proportioned but recognizably female minis with futuristic anime-influenced styling.

So, to sorta get back to my original point (too late!); a complaint about the "sexy Infinity girls" isn't, per se, illegitimate, but it is a complain about a very intentional and integral part of Infinity's aesthetic. It's like complaining about the huge guns and heavy armor prevalent in 40k. It also, as BobbaFett so ably pointed out, is being directed against what CB an element of their line that is most commercially, beyond aesthetically, successful.

Sidstyler wrote:Well the same could go for any negative comment for any company then.

Yes, I realize that and I appreciate that there are variant models so I can assemble a force that pleases me. And thanks, that's exactly what I'm trying to say, this is a forum meant for discussion and I don't think it's appropriate to tell someone they can't discuss something because they're in the minority.

First of all, it was mainly me who blew everything out of proportion and got heated about the negative comments. I've already put my hands up for the crime, and apologise. I had my reasons, which to me, at the time, seemed justified....however, I realise that being an ass is rarely sound justification!

Regarding the pose of the figure. It's interesting, because I see a female character counter-balancing the weight of her rifle and extracting a "data plug" which is neatly stowed in her sleeve ready to engage in some cyber combat. The way her body is posed tells me (personally) a story, perhaps she has a team covering her back while she prepares to enter the data net, she appears confident and un-hurried by events that are happening around her.....it's a wonderful sculpt.

Now, that's just what I see, I realise that you may see something different or nothing at all. At the end of the day, it's "art" and it's open to interpretation.....

Interestingly enough, maybe this is why so many companies opt for more static poses, they are less open to interpretation and negative critique. However, this is what Corvus Belli is all about, they seem to shun the obvious and treat us fans as if we have imaginations. Now I'm not saying that just because you can't see the same thing as me in this pose, that you lack imagination, but it may simply suggest that you are not on the same wave-length as Corvus Belli.

I'm not sure how much difference it will make, but the pic of the Reverend Custodier is about 3.5 times the height of the model in reality.

Right, and as we know from Ghost in the Shell, women must always take off their clothes to activate invisibility cloaks, while male characters can remain fully clothed

That's an interesting point about the scale. The unbelievable paint job on those minis make them look a lot larger than they actually are.

You only fully realize the talent used on these miniatures and how good these sculpts are when you open the blister and see how intricate the detail and proportions are... believe me guys you will never look at other miniatures with the same eyes ever again. Infinity is today setting the standart as much as rackham did for fantasy all those years ago.

Delephont wrote:Ok, so you consider it a problem.....what do you expect Corvus Belli to do about it? I really think you reaction to their miniatures is a minority opinion, and while it's a corner of the market that they may never sell to, I think they can live with that. However, my point still stands, you find it "silly" and "embarrassing"....well, fine, thank you for your opinion, it's logged, now please walk away.....I'm not being rude, but there really is nothing more to be said on the matter....and I'm still not sure why you bothered to post this particular opinion here....kinda like me walking (voluntarily) into a biker bar, just to explain how much I hate bikes and bikers.

Some would call it trolling, but we're more enlightened than that I'm sure

I posted here because I'm discussing what I think of the new Infinity releases in the thread dedicated to new Infinity releases. Also, my point isn't "your æsthetic is stupid and you should feel bad," it's:

Fetterkey wrote:Overall, I think that while the sexualized poses might be part of the Infinity æsthetic, they aren't an essential element of it, and I just want to register that I for one am much more likely to buy models without such poses than models with them.

Note further that rather than merely coming in to the Infinity thread to insult Infinity, I highlighted some models that I thought they had done a particularly good job on and explained why those fit my tastes and preferences better than some of the other figures that they've been releasing lately.

NAVARRO wrote:Of course Infinity range has a problem!

I hope Infinity does indeed grow to become substantially more popular; that's why I'm posting my thoughts as to how they might better attract my custom, as well as that of others I've talked to. In my eyes, having more companies and games in the market is almost always a good thing.

Oddly enough, while their minis are usually perfect IMHO, I find the proportions in the Asura mini a bit weird.

It seems to me that her back is too short and her legs too long, so her hip looks like it's too "high". In the frontview looks ok, but in the rear view it would look better being a bit lower.

And the Reverend is, IMHO again, perfect.

In the rear view image, he back is sloping away from the lens, this gives the impression that the proportions are out, if you look carefully at the "side" angle shot, you can see the length of her torso is clearly correct.

Can't watch the video from work - does it address the FAQ for throwing a smoke grenade to block shots during the model's own activation?

Yes it does, I think it shows 3 examples for your turn and a fourth one for AROs. Nice video.

I have just found this in the Infinity Facebook page.

The FAQ has been corrected. This video is the Official response from CB to all doubts about the use of Smoke Grenades.

It looks like the FAQ stated a different answer to the manouver and now CB releases a video showing multiple examples to make sure everyone, in any language, plays correctly.

So I can't say I'm exactly an expert.

TalonZahn wrote:So maybe the more "cheeky" combantants will toss an occasional pose for the cameras. Not inconceivable considering the universe/setting/environment.

lol, okay now that I could see.

You guys make good points. And it's not that I'm entirely opposed to the idea of "sexy" models or anything, it's just that I'd really like to see more of this:

But it seems Infinity has models that appeal to both of us types, so it should be easy enough for me to avoid stuff like the daktaris and get the more "serious" models like the one above. I swear I'm going to end up buying that model before I even get a rulebook, lol.

Another thing, I'm kind of confused by some of the character models, like Jeanne D'arc, Achilles, etc. What exactly are they supposed to be? Are they recreations of their respective characters from history grown in labs and essentially resurrected to fight wars in the future, or...I dunno, what's up with that?
