erm right i kinda fell into doing this as i have been watching this other guys project blog and he has been making some awesome stuff for orks. like flying saucers and orkzillers and this crazy flying ork machine thingy. so i was inspired by him to do this. his link is below and if you like what you see here subb his blog, seriously its really awesome.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/356788.page

anyway onto my stuff the stuff i am working on at the moment is below

ok so honestly, i knocked this up one night woke up thinking "what the hell is this" i reckon i was thinking deff dread, but its sort of just been idle since then. im not sure what to do with it ,if indeed anything at all and yea, kinda just need some feed back. but anyway next.

ok this above is my version of a grot tank or warbuggie. its a bit cheeky to be a warbuggie as its so small but i think i could get away with it. i am working on anotherone as well but its going kinda slow as well. anyway below is another pic

ok now below is some kustom kans i have already done. this is just erm, you know to erm, .... o w/e i dont need a reson to post them

COMMENTS WOULD BE GREAT, SUBB IF YOU WANT, AND I WILL BE MAKING SOME SQUIGOTHS SOON SO DONT GO AWAY.
or keep your eyes peeled w/w you want. and btw i do really recomend the blog posted at the top. it is farly new but it already has cool stuff on it.

Wondering why you used Lego parts from discontinued sets, but hey, your choice.

Other than that, I really like the vehicles, very orky and mekky. Maybe you could add a bit more dakka, as I can see it's got lots of melee weps but lacking a bit with the ranged side of it.

you could seriously benefit from plastic-card -more than anyone i've seen- really! It's cheap, easy to work with and from the look of things you could have used 2sheets [roughly $4] to do all your meks. The finished product looks great btw, but i think they need square and hexagonal bolts & screws.

The reason why i use the lego parts from old sets is because no one misses them when i use them . that and i am not made of money, so i cant go out and buy new toys all the time, so i ryclycle old ones.

honestly i have no idea on where i should daka it up. and with what. at the mo its a dread with 3 comat arms, a skorcha and a kustom force field. i dont know what else to give it. :O surgestions

yea, i am aware of plasticard but i have never come across any tbh. but if its that cheap i will defonatly look into it. and yea i agree on the bolts front. i can never be bothered to add them though.

Ok now away from responce posts.

since yesterday.... liturally. i decided i was going to make a "big squiggoth" this was much due to a moment of inspiration from another prject blog. but anyway, i was thinking at the time triceratops with howda's. went to the shops this morning.... turns out they are around £7.50 each for decent sized ones. so i began to slowly walk out of the shop looking quite disappointed indeed.
then just as i was leaving i saw a sale sign. wondered over, it was a sale on toy elephants woo. so i bought my self 2 toy elephants instead. got home and began working. pictures below. im setting it up with a kannon and i have decided to only do one at a time. anyway its a work in progress, and any comments would be great.

the elephant with ork rider

the elephant after some plasic surgery

the elephant after more work, and the addition of a metal jaw

added nostrills

added howda and blingage

shot of just the howda. with its kannon and gun cockpit

comments much appreciated. SUBBSCRIBE!

I was more hinting at the fact that some people will buy those for quite a pretty penny so you can afford more grimdark goodness.

Anyways really good start to the stompa so far. Like how the elephant head magically turned into a T-Rex head.

I'm new to dakka -but would like to add as much technical knowledge as i can possibly bring to the table-
so, if your local gaming store doesn't have what you need you can try these guys:

bionicle its a older lego range very good indeed, and i have loads and loads and loads. bionicle is great for orks because they looky tecky and science fictiony. great investment.

:O i did'nt know they are worth anything :O...... oh well tbh, i would rather use them to create original kans and dreads rather then buy GW models. just that way inclined i guess. and the elephant head, honestly i did'nt even plan it, t just sort of occoured . i like it thoygh. im just going to continue on working on the body and trying to mke it all more spikey.

first of all, im going on a crappy holiday for a week so there will be a gap in progress on here for a while. that said i did some work on the squiggoth today and i think its looking pretty good. pics below.

yea and thats what i did today. ok so recent news, ive been looking at the apoc formation for the "squiggoth battle herd" and yea it looks pretty epic. for those that dont know its basically 3+ squiggoths of any type plus 100 points, and then you can declear a squiggoth charge, which meams they run 2d6 and then gain 1+ attack for that turn. oh and they can make assult moves after this run, so i guess its more like a fleet move, but anyway basically this means that when used and they assult a unit, they have 2+ attacks to there normal 2 attacks. thus making them quite mean on the charge. so basically im going to finnish the two models i have now, do another and then look into doing a gargantuan. but yea just an idea.

COMMENTS GREATLY APPRECIATED, and if you sub leave a comment just saying subbed or something. thanks

Looks like broken plexiglass. I've used bitz of it myself, on occasion. The chunks are very...Orky, in a way. Though perhaps better suited to wood or stone than metal, in texture and shape.

just had a look and i have seen the finnished product in the gallary before but the project blog is cool. that said if i was making a gargantuan i would'nt want to make it in the same way as someone else, i would defo want mine to be original in everyway. but it is a cool thread, like the tusks on it a lot, and the howda. thanks for the sub as well.

mullet_steve wrote:I am wondering what is the stuff your using as plasticard?

Anvildude was right it is plexiglass smashed up in to orky pieces. im using it because its what i have hanging around and i like the edges you can get on it, they look all smashed and broken. which is great as i do deathskulls.

smurfmaster wrote:I found a guy on dakka that does amazing plastic-card work thought you might like see it: {for inspiration, or whatever}

i checked it out and yea... im going to get me some plasticard. i really like the chiped affect on the edges of the armor plates. very cool texture.

hungryp wrote:I love that Squiggoth! Great greenstuff work.

thank you very much, im going to build it up more and add more layers and stuff on the face.

now if you have actually read the text on the previous post you would know im on a crappy holiday in cornwool... woo.
so obviously i cant do anymodeling or painting as all my stuff is at home. so i have been sketching quite a lot, mostly tyranid stuff but i did this sketch of my squiggoth this morning. considering i was'nt working from the actual model i think it looks ok.

thanks for all the coments much appreciated

Hey - I understand - I practically breathe that philosophy for my Orks (though, no Squiggoths currently planned...) - just thought I'd share it in case you hadn't seen it because I find all of these threads great for picking up new techniques or ideas - sometimes not even related ideas, but sparked off other's work

Looking forward to seeing your progress once you get back.

Ah bionicle, I miss those. They are from the Toa Nuva series way back in 2004, I collected them when I was 8 or 9. Nice recycling of the pieces, very green especially for orks. Consider me subscribed.

IM BACK
and back to making stuff, over the holidays i was thinking... "i want 3 squiggoths to make a herd, but they all have a 10 model transport cap, so why dont i built stuff to go in them as well "
then that lead to me thinking, what could i make that is big and strong enough to control a Big Sqiuggoth.... Nobs, and not just any, the most no nosense Nobs around, Goffs.
so basically im going to have my herd or at least one of my squiggoths as a goff freebooter squiggoth. i think this should work ok within the rest of my army as i already have a free booter deffcopter unit. so yea it will be nice to have bad moons, goffs and deathskull elements. but anyway to the pictures.

ok this is the first one i made, its a Nob with waargh banner and bigchopper.... i figred the waargh banner was pointy enough to be used as a big chopper as well another pic below

in this pic you can probs see he is missing a leg.. that is intended and i am thinking about making him a peg leg

ok this is another Nob with big chopper/club. the club is made from 2 marine pads back to back and then with loadsa pointy stuff shlapped on for good measure. i also decided that being in a deathskulls warband, the best place to keep your wepon is on you at all times... liturally. this lead to the axe arm.

NEXT

ok this is my fav one so far.

its made using mostly marine terminator parts. i think it looks pretty sweet. more pics below.

with this one i figred i could have him either as a power claw or a big chopper depending on situation, but for something i knocked up in about 30mins i think there all looking ok.
the plan is to have a unit of 5 with 4 big choppers, eavy armor, a painboy and a waargh banner, adding up to a total of 170 points.
should be awesomenes its self.

oh and i also added some bolts to the squiggoths howda by rolling green stull and then cutting it with a scalpel. pics below.

OKS LAST BIT.
if you have read all of this thank you very much, infact thanks if you just looked at the pictures.
comments much appreciated as ever, and subscribers thanks for taking an intrest. untill next post

ok so i kinda coukd'nt sleep at all last night. so i revised for about 2 hours and then started doing some modelling untill the early morn. so this is just a baby update from what i did last night.

so i was traulling through what few orks i have left, and i came across the fellow below, he will be a nice addition to my Nobs unit me thinks and i will be keeping with tradition and giving him a big choppa .

NEXT!

another thing i did last night was look at my grot tank... i looked at the rules, i looked at it, i looked at my army, and came to the conclusion it was a waste of potentail. so i got to building away and it became a kan.
this is the first of my new kan unit called the MACKANIC MONSTAZ. so far i have 2 sorta made, pics below.

This is the first one i did, working fromt he grot tank shown earlyer. i think its looking nice but i will probs be adding bolts and stuff. im giving the entire unit kustom mega blastas as it has recently come to my attention they are, well quite good really. and i have the points, time, and pieces to make them so why not ay. anyway second kan shown below.

Ok now my deffdread "stompy" has been idle for a while now so i decided its time to do some work on him. so last night i added bolts. did it in the same way as on the squiggoth as well, pics below.

and well that was my yesterday night and sunday morning. im thinkings its about time to paint "stompy" and my 1st squiggoth.
almost forgot did some work on the second squiggoth as well, cut off its face ect. pics of that will be up later. below is just the elephant model with orky rider.

ok thats it for now, comments would be great, i will usually reply individually and yea
WAAAAAAAAAARGH

thanks , i would have quoted you in the post above but i had written it before i saw your message :p oh well.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
seems quiet on the blog.... too quiet.
anyway did some work on one of my deffcopters i already had. i was basecoating the sguiggoth and the deffdread and while they were drying decided to touch up the copter a bit.
before and after shots below.
BEFORE

As you can see looking a bit tired and messy.
AFTER

i thought, "he is a mek freebooter in a deathskulls warband.. if he needed some bits he would get them from a loota.. and they probally were 'found' somewhere else" so this is why goth plates on the front.

looking much better, although the new kopter is making the evilsunz one i have look a lil run down... anyway ill look into that later.

oh and i here are some pics from the squiggoth i was working on earlyer. got rid of the trunk and ears.

oks so since i repainted the kopter i looked at another model i have im not so happy with.

its glaring at me from the shelf begging to be redone or touched up in someway. so yeah that will be soon. i was thinking about giving it more daka as well, like something to represent the "deth arsonal" in imperial armor book 8 (120" range, str 9, ap 3, heavy 3d6) anyway.
more stuff later... (it seems i am working too fast for coments, or people are looking and not commenting, either way its more about the modeling and making then the reinforcment from comments... still appreciated though )

I would love to see plexi glass or plasticard teeth bolted onto the front of that stompa , you could trace the shape of the painted pieces to cut out then roughly cut the mouth out to be replaced by some led lights and more barrels and rokkits for added dakka then reapply the teeth as lumpy chunks and the eyes and eyebrows aswell,,, made of win

lol, sounds really cool, but the first thing i thought was "stompa pumpkin" as its hollow and full of lights. i would soooo do that but im running out of gun barrels and i seriously dought i could muster enough to fill the mouth up enough. im thinking about changing the design anyway to make it more deathskully so change the face into a skull to go with my other dreads. good idea though .

riiiight so recently building and painting wise things have been a little slow. so far i have put some colour down on the deff dread i was doing, and base coated the squiggoth quite patchyly so i will be touching that up at some stage, oh and i have been building the Nobz squad, thing is i need a painboy and i dont have the bits to make one and i dont have any moneys at the mo, so that is kinda on hold for a bit. just the painboy is on hold, not all of them. oh and i have been looking at the second driver for the 2nd sqiuggoth. so yes anyway onto pics

just with the first layer of boltgun metal dry brush.

some detaily stuff dunno what to do with the design on it now though. but surgestions would be great. oh and you can see the buzzsaw that goes on the front of the dread (its in the middle of the image on the left just behind the dread).

driver 1

driver 2

ok now there is both of the head for the driver.. but at the same time im wondering if i should have him as the driver at all, because then that means the one i had before that was going to be the driver has to be in the nob squad. anyway any help or advice would be great. im going to do a lot of painting as i have got a 4 day weekend from thursday afternoon through till monday night. so thats cool i will get the squiggoth ready for pics by that time and maybe start working on the second squiggoth propperly with green stuff and yea. (i had to stop as i ran out of glue.. and then my super glue got all messed up as the broh fell off... so i poured the super glue into the almost empty plastic glue bottle... turns out then dont react well.)

ANYWAY.............. COMMENTS ALWAYS WELCOME AND APPRECIATED

Holy ! I didn't realize how big this thing was 'till it was painted! You should do loads of dried-blood on the buzz-saw and spattered all over the legs- thats my only suggestion.

next to your average marine

from a higher angle

"shoot it!, shoot it!!! marine!" had to be done

thank you very much. i was looking at them the other day and thnking "i cant beleive i was going to make them out of triceritops".

BUT ANYWAY. today is friday the 29th of april... why is this significant? because it means that i get a 4 day weekend from school because of a wedding that i am not even going to watch. woo. ( not a fan of the royal family just to clarify )

so this morning i did some work on the deff dread i have been working on ("stompy" to his victims). pics are below. im thinking he is allmost done. just need to add a few more details to him and i will be happy to call him finnished.

Two things-

1.) If you mix crushed instant-coffee with your brown paint, you get a nice clumpy mud effect.

2.) Tone down blood-red by mixing in brown paint or ink {or both} to make a less 'cartoonie' arterial-spray.

thanks for the input, and i agree on the blood front it does'nt look sticky and slimey enoughto be blood. I have'nt forggoten about the plasticard btw. im just waiting for moneys for buy all the hobby stuff i need at once.
so far i need: super glue, plastic glue, green stuff, dark angels green, and plasticard. :/ if only i had more disposable income oh well. ill do the blood within the next dew days, and i will have to see if i have any coffee. thanks

I would also add: think about which way the saw blade is turning. The blood spray would be more on one side than the other... I think.

One more thing about the spray. Try using a tooth brush or an old stiff pain brush, get some paint on it (watered down a bit) and run your thumb across it away from the model. It should give you a nice spray effect. Though I would recommend using a test model or a bit of paper or something before doing it to that cool stompa. It looks like a walking lab, as boxy as it is.

1.) If you mix crushed instant-coffee with your brown paint, you get a nice clumpy mud effect.
2.) Tone down blood-red by mixing in brown paint or ink {or both} to make a less 'cartoonie' arterial-spray.

so i tryed them both out and they worked okishly. i think the blood looks alot better darker. and the areas that have ended up this dark dryed brown colour look cool too. and the mud effect has worked quite well also. i did'nt want it to be too clumpy just in case but it worked quite well. only problem now is that my dread smells of coffee.. i dont eve like coffee. but oh well i guess. pics below

i would have done this just now if i had seen the comment sooner . did'nt think about the small details in terms of reality and how it would actually work... how annoying. but anyway next time i do some painting on him i will increase the amount of blood on the side with the heavy flamer. and have it sort off heading diagonally up and right and then maybe reduce the amount on the other side.

anyway tomorrow i am tinking i might pop down to my local GW and have a game or 3 and test this bad boy out should be cool.

comments always appreciated and taken on board. and subbers thanks for sticking with the project.

lol i know . i mean unless your a none convertion type of person or you have never played as orks.

OK. so today i went down to my local games workshop to play a few games and talk some rule and other crap with some fellow 40kers. turns out i spent most of my time painting and talking. did get a game though toward the middle of the day against space wolves but i lost i the end.
(i know this does'nt make a difference on here but, he only had 3 units left and one of them was a imoblised vindicator with no big gun and a dread standing next to it, the other was a lone space wolf character, it was a hQ but i dont know which one. and the last was a imobilisd landraider. and all of the units i had left had power claws and couldreach all three of them :/ annnoying)

but yes i did a lot of painting including quite a lot on the squiggoth and a lot of touching up my other models i had with me. the only downside to me going there today was when i opened my case when i got back a lot of stuff needed fixing. kinda annoying but oh well.

DA SGUIGGOTH

ok so its not finished but its getting there. i kinda decided that i was'nt going to go with GOFF SQUIGGOTH i talked about before. This is mainly because when i was doing the nobz i kinda ended up making them out of loads of space marine bits, so i just thought they would work better as looter nobs then goff nobs.

DA BATTLE WAGON

just redid some of the pannels on this model, as i have had it for ages and it jus needed some work done on it.

coments are much appreciated and any constructive critism would be great as well.
thanks for reading and looking at pictures.

thanks guys. im thinking i am going to work on it a little bit more paint wise at some stage and maybe add more blue warpaint and add mud to its feets. not sure about weather to add blood on it. might be too much.

but MOVING ON. today this morning i did some more work on the nobs squad i am putting together. finnished the driver and the final nob. the thing with the driver though is i have kinda decided i want him to be on the squiggoth model but detachable so i can have him in the Nobz squad as a power claw Nob if needs be. so basically to do this i have been trying to cut a hole in the squiggother howda that he can fit in and out off. this so far has been quite hard and i will probally have pics of it next time. but at the mo i just have some pics of the Nobs. btw this was before i did any green stuff work on most of them.

ANY CONSTRUCTIVE CRITISM ABOUT THE NOBZ WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED..... just saying.

and well yes. all i need now is a painboy and that will be that.

SUBS AND COMMENTS APPRECIATED!

HELLO. now recently i have been working on a goff squiggoth, a goff Nobz squad and i was planning on a goff warboss and painboy. this plan kinda changed when i decided to not do that and just have them as normal death skulls within my army. honestly i think this was a good idea. and since this revalation i have decided another big mek would be a much better adition to my force, as it fits in with my MEGA MEK themeyness i have going on in the army.
Now onto pics.

This is the new big mek i have been working on to go into the squad of deathskull nobs. i decided to give him a kustom force field and burna combo. why you ask, because it has recently come to my attention that they are kick ass. the KKF gives him and all units within 6" a 5+ cover save and any vehicle obscured target giving them a 4+ save. this combined with the burna gives him a power wepon in close combat and a flame template wepon for lightly armoured targets. thus making him a great little choice. i have'nt finnished the KFF yet so i did'nt put it on, but it should be quite cool (its actually next to him in pieces if you look carefully ).

But yes, since i put him on, i thought it would be quite unfair to not put my other big meks on... so here they are.

The MEGA MEK him self, with and without his mega armour.

And here is my pretty standard big mek with kff. just changed the head really on this model.

just to think aloud for a second. i am going to repaint both of them at some point, as they were both some of the first models i painted they are both a bit ... lets say messy. so yes they will be repainted and possibly redone.

ANYWAY, and comments on any of the models shown on this blog would be great and helpful

right so today i have been painting up the Nobz and the Big mek. i think i have got them to a stage that i am happy with. Since i started using 50/50 blood red and brown ink to do the blood everythin has seemed to become slightly better. im not a pro painter, and this is obvious. but i think this squad is looking pretty good. (oh and i painted the rims of the bases blue for extra orky good luck)

" "OI GROT BOY, if yur thinkin of joining mi boyz you betta no somthin. IM DA BOSS! and wat i sayz goz! U GOT IT"
gutmelta turned slowly, and stared at mega mek across from him. without sayin a word he charged, mega mek had no time to react before gutmelta had sliced his bionic arm right off. mega mek retaliated with shots from his kustom mega blasta but gutmeltaz force field stoped the shots from hitting home. The meks charged both screaming "WAARGH" as loud as they could, they collided into each over with enough force to crush a grot. the battle went on, the mega mek firing off shots from his mega blasta with no luck, as gutmeltas force field and sheild consistantly deflected shots, finally mega mek was overwelmed by gutmelta as his other arm was cut clean off. The mega mek was badly wounded and knew the he was finnished.
gutmelta stood over his adversary and said "whos da boss now"
mega mek gutmelta was born"

back to reality then. the basis of that is i was looking at both of my meks and kinda came to the conclusion that gutmelta would be much better in the position of mega mek then the previous boss.
but yes anyway. ives recently decided to redo some stuff within the army as a lot f it is looking quite tired and old. its almost everything that i am going to redo apart from: the nobz i just made, the new mega mek gutmelta, the squiggiphant, the battle wagon, the krabby kanz and both the deff dreads.

so i am starting with redoing my truck, my looted wagon and my other big mek with kff.

BiG MeK

with this model it just felt like there were too many colour on it at once and did'nt look that deathskully
the truck

looted wagon

ANYCOMMENTS OR OPPINIONS WOULD BE GREAT.

just a progress update[u]

so i may have got slightly distracted from painting tanks by my stompa. its been sitting on my shelf for too long. so i was reading the KUSTOM STOMPA section in the imperial armour book (8) yesterday night.
and well i was looking at what else i could add to my stompa. before i knew it i had started fanatically adding gunz and laserz and rokitz and all manner of killy things.
so now my old humble 600 point standard stompa has become a 890 point stompa.

anyway im giving it:
gaze of mork
a titain close combat arm
dethkannon with co ax super gatler
a shoulder mounted super skorcha
5 big shooters
deff arsenal
belly mounted gigashoota and a repair crew.

(if you dont know what any of these are/mean ... just ask )
i have'nt put up pics yet just because the model paint wise is a right mess. so when i base coat it there may be pics

Would the repair crew mean some bonus to self reparation? Because with that amount of weaponry and cost, you could be benefited in getting some extra armour or something to protect your investment. Cool though, you're going to need to be supplying some pictures some

Looted wagons look good too, when they've been re-painted I hope they'll be getting a load of graffitti on, that's a good look.

Love your conversions.
You should perhaps paint the looted wagon in its original scheme to look like its just been looted, perhaps a rival, no one likes there own vehicles getting turned against them.

honestly though its a guard tank and i dont know anyone who plays guard. and im not sure i could paint it decent enough as a human tank... but it is a good idea. so ill look into it.

"repair crew: during the shooting phase the repair crew may attemp to fix one thing per turn. declare what you want the crew to fix and then roll on the repair crew chart.
wepon destroyed:3+
primary wep destroyed:5+
drive damage:5+ structure point:6"

it sounds not great but it is. as i only have the close combat arm and the dethcannon as primary wepons anything apart from them is regained on a 3+. it makes it extremly hard to slow/stop it destroying unit after unit after unit.
oh and its also going to be witin 12" of my "big one" in my dread mob squad. which means he will be able to benifit from the "big ones" force feild. giving the stompa a 4+ cover save

monkeytroll wrote:Liking what you've done with Gutmelta, nice an' orky

thata the plan .although im not sure what to do under the graffiti though. as the image in my head is having the graffiti over like a pattern or flames or something like that.

ok so now pictures of the stompa.
i need to think of a name fot it but at the mo i am quite liking "MORKS MONSTA" has a nice ring to it. so after adding some bits i shlaped some paint on it. if anyone has any modeling surgestions i am not opposed to repinting bits. pics below.

ABOVE: deff arsenal, the way its described is as if the boss has given the mek an abondance of loot and gunz and the mek will just hammer weld and attach as many as he can. i think it looks coolz

super skorcha with grot gunner.

some more daka. "there can never be too much daka"

a full body shot.

da giga shoota, firering 6d6 shots each turn at strenth 6 at a range of 48 inches.

COMMENTS GREATLY APPRECIATED, AND IF YOU VEIW IT AND LIKE IT LEAVE A COMMENT, IN FACT LEAVE A COMMENT IF YOU DONT LIKE IT, AS LONG AS YOU GIVE A SURGESTION TO MAKE YOU LIKE IT MORE.

The only tiny thing that I don't like about this and some of your other conversions/scratchbuilds is the Lego pieces. I love the Belly Gun, but I instantly recoginzed it as Lego Technic connectors. I think the Lego pieces look to uniform, and not Ork-ish.

honestly i only shlaped on the silver because when i took pics of what i had changed i did'nt want them to be in black. but yes, when i do get round to painting it properly i was intending on having some of the plates as stolen from other ork clans and yea some rustly plates as well. i need a good way of painting rust though....btw thank you for your comment

RIGHT!!!!
thank you greatly for your comment. it is exsactly the sort of constructive critism i was hoping for. so after i read thecomment i went away and did some work on the gigashoota. i compleatly got what was being said, and so i tryed to make the giga shooter more unique and less recongnisable as lego. so i messed around with the barrels and choped some of them up. i also got rid of most of the lego bits on the rest of the mode as welll. i did this to try and make the giga shooter look compleatly different to any of the other gunz on the stompa. oh and i replaced the lego bits from the deff arsenal bitz with GW gunz and blasta's (not its not a new packet you can buy, although that would be exelent) just to make it look more "deadlya" PICS BELOW. tell me what ya think

GIGA SHOOTA

DEFF ARSENAL

(i added a assault cannon from a terminater as well but you cant see it because another gun us in the way.... how very orky)

THANK YOU FOR READING

(oh and as i final, point does anyone have a ork painboy they are willing to trade with me for something. i dont care if its old or new or kustom or standard. i dont know what i could swap with ya for it, but if you need a ork thing i could probs knock something up. oh and i do Nids as well, so i could swap you a Nid thing for it. but yes leave a comment or p.m me if your interested)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
small update, i just played the stompa and gutmelta (added together = 1000 points) against 1000 points of nids
(nids: tyranofex, winged hive tyrant, zoanphropes in myeticspoor and a trygon prime)
very fun and interesting to play. the NIds did a lot better then i thought but could'nt destroy it before turn 6 and then the roll for next turn wad failed. the gigashooter rolled 28 for number of shots on turn 3 but only hit with 5 of them. just an example of ork shooting. still very fun (and eye opening)

so i messed around witht the giga shooter a lot more and now the barrels dont look like lego bits (at least in my oppinion) . but i basically choped em and added some metal plates to them to make them all individual and different. i then started work on some painting of the stompy stompa. i added a brown wash to some of the plates to try and get them to look more like dark copper or rust. i think it is working ok. still a lot to do though.

if there is any techniques that you think could help witht the painting i would love to know. its still early days painting wise though.

It looked great before, but it looks even better. The work you did on the Giga Shoota was a good improvement, I no longer think 'Lego' when I look at it.

Not a criticism (cause it's Ork-some already) just a suggestion, but what if you added crossbones to the skull painted around the Giga Shoota?

I like the looks of the extra gun ports, but the blue panels look flat, as though they aren't metal underneath their new blue. You might be able to fix that and get them a spot more churned by orks flavour to them if you drybrush some metal, at least significantly on the corners.

You were asking about how to rust up the stompa. I have some suggestions here:
Some careful orange/brown washes. You can also use sponge/blister foam to get a good effect. Finally a lot of people use weathering powders but ground up chalk pastels does the job too.

how would you ue the chalk? and with the sponge technique would you dab on the orange and brown wash's or is the sponde technique for paint? (these might be sillly questions but i seriously am not wel informed on painting) thanks btw

lol. that is so on point its ridiculus!

seriously i woke up this morning and went down stairs and my dad had got me assult on black reach from the bootfair for 25 along with loadsa over stuff. lol.
how strange is that. pics below, everything is in quite good condition and i also got a mother load of marines as well now. so thats cool.

and here is a pic of the mega dread so far

im planning on adding loads of armour plates on top of the leg and some hydrolic bits and wires dont know how im going to do the arms yet but hay cross that bridge later. oh and i decided to stop the apoc game i was doing, it had taken 3 days to do 3 turns and i was just tired of it. and now i have a load of orks to paint so i have no time for fun and games... yea riight.
thanks for reading.
(oh and i also got a mother load of marines now as well. awesome, might start them up a project blog)

For the washes I'd use a smallish brush and concentrate it around cracks, studs etc. For the sponging the paint doesn't really need to be overly thinned and you can concentrate it on edges etc. The chalk you want ground into dust and then use a cheap soft haired brush to put it on. The chalk needs fixed so its doesn't come off again I used W&N spray fixative for chalks and charcoal cos I have it, but I think hairspray works too.

I absolutely love that mega dread head. Great work as always.

I know you said you haven't thought about building the arms to much yet, but do you know what kind of weapons the arms will have?

The stompa looks the best and I've got hight hopes for the squiggoth, buuuut, I'm trying to find a nice way to say that the kans/buggies rub me the wrong way.
There's something to be said for the GW kits and someone elsewhere has said (something to the effect of): it's not enough to make ork vehicles out of garbage, you have to make them out of 28mm scale garbage. I think that's the beef I have with your kans...

thank you , and honestly i am not sure at all. i was thinking about just going basic and having a huge krushy claw and on the other side a killkannon. but its still questionable as some of the options sound so cool. for example 2 killkannons and then have it like a dread with 2 auto cannons, or havnig it with 2 krushy claws and then it rolls +2 on the damage result table so you almost always get a wepon destroyed result at least. still up for dicussion.

hmmm i can deal with that tbh. i make ork things out of the things i have lying around. and its mainly because i do not have the funds to make ork stuff out of gw kits most of the time. but hmmmm i have been thinking about it before now and i have kinda decided that dreads and kanz will be made from w/e but other stuff, not so much.
and i really like making kanz and dreadz out of w/e because then they are unique to me and my orks. if i was using gw kits i just feel like i would end up using arm bits for arm bits and leg bits for leg bits and so on. i do like that quote though, and it will be taken on board next time im making stuff.
thanks.

UPDATE!

so today i spent quite a lot of time painting my truck boyz to try and get them nearish completion. at the moment i think i will need to spend about an hour more on them at some point just to finnish them off (basing does'nt count of course).
and then it will be back to the stompa for some final touches and the adition of rust and more battle damage. but untill then, my truck boyz.

so what do'se yous think. i am actually really happy with how have turned out so far and will be painting the rest of my boyz skin in the same way. . with the truck though i need some oppinions as to if it is too much or too little or just general surgestions, the truck is'nt finnished as well btw it needs the raven guard bits cleaning up a little bit.

thanks for reading and comments would be great

The rhino is looking good. One thing I might do is add some battle damage to the Raven Guard areas that are left. I wouldn't do any on the blue as it has just been freshly looted and painted but one the areas that where not painted by the orks the battle damage would give that extra amount of detail that makes the model stand out all the more. But solid start so far.

get some smaller bits .
and of course paint in the detail, like damage and all that sorta stuffs. i am still learning though. but the main thing i think is that if your building metal things to alwasy add bolts. make it look a lot better and realistic (to an extent)

What I would do is leave the blue areas alone. The areas the orks haven't modified I would add some chipping in the paint and some minor battle damage. Marines take pretty good care of the gear so no huge areas of battle damage unless the ork themselves did it after they looted the rhino or recent battle. But in short. Black add some chipping. Blue leave as is.

Love that group shot of your army. It looks very impressive so far.

ok so a mini update, im currently reworking my old mega mek into a "counts as" kaptain badrukk. it should be epic, and i am also considering making my black reach Nobs into flash gitz. pics up later

i think i have come to a stage where i am becoming a ork big mek. never satisfied by making and painting da boyz, but gets a kick out of cobblying together random meks out of anything i can find that is even remotly orky.
but i digress, i have done some small additions to the mega dread and also nearly finnished my new "counts as" kaptain badrukk conversion. oh and im also trying to see if i can mess around with the ork warboss from assult on black reach to make him a lil bit more dakary.... not because im giving him any special wepons or anything, i jus want him to look "dead ard"
PICS BELOW:

so with "badrukk" (i need to think of a name for my one) i was going for the idea that after being humiliated by the most recent mega mek he would go away and imidiatly start thinking of a plan to get the "mega mek" back. so thats where the idea of the walker type thing came from, it is also as a side note made from bitz of his old mega armour (he would'nt be needing it anymore anyway). i also needed something i could use as "da ripper" badrukks gun. so i made the wepon on the front out of various stolen goods and some old bits (he is still a deathskull after all) from my bitz box. The banner on the walker is surpost to represent the bossbole badrukk has and BTW i know badrukk does'nt have a power claw but it just looked kick ass on there. OH annnnd i have'nt put a force field on him either, mainly because if he has those walker legs does'nt that make him a cybork.. and dont cyborks get a 5+ invun.... like a certain other character that he is based on. so yea if anyone asks i will just explain that.

BADRUKK IN CONSTRUCTION

MEGA DRED
i managed to find some extra bits to use on him and did a little bit of work on the legs.

and finally

i was really wanting something that just made him look a bit diffrent.

there is still a lot of work to be done filling in gaps and adding green stuff ect ect. i need to get another pack of green stuff befor i can start though. liturally have run compeatly out... (thats the only reason why i hav'nt been working on the squiggiphant at all, soooooo annoying)

ANY COMMENTS OR CONSTRUCTIVE CRITISM WOULD BE GREAT AND THANKS FOR LOOKING

(3 POSTS IN A ROW WITHOUT COMMENT!!!!!)

so i have mainly been working on painting my space marine tacticle squad and dread today but ork wise, ive finished making the flash gits, made some ammo grots for my BADRUKK and i finnished painting the truck and boyz that go in it (went over the blue with blue and did some battle damage on the black bits) pics below

BADRUKK AND HIS AMMO GROTS

FLASH GITS

the basic idea with the flash gits is that they were nobz that my kaptain bent to his will by the gifts of kustom snazzgunz and loadsa teeth.

STILL NEED A NAME FOR THE KAPTAIN!

any comments or creative critism would be great.
thanks

Badrukk looks very cool with those bionic legs.

The Flash gits' gunz look awesome, too. As far as anything to add to make the look more flashy... long coats are good, if you can manage the GS (I haven't had the gutz yet). Trophy heads and pelts and other items from other armies work great too. I think the most important and easiest thing to do, though, would be to paint them bright, piratey colors (which I assume is in the pipe line already).

Also, I have to second the comment about the axes... unless this is a blood axe clan. (I've forgotten )

no its not blood axe's its deathskulls (the ones that steal stuff and paint things blue). and tbh i had'nt thought about how i was going to paint them yet.
And trophy's thats a great idea. i have a shed load of corpse's from marines and nids that i could add. had'nt thought abou that. thanks

FINISHED REPAINTING THE LOOTED WAGON...... almost.
i am thinking the only things i need to add now would be weathering like mud. And then maybe touch up some other bits just a lil.
IF ANYONE HAS ANYTHING THEY THINK WOULD MAKE THE LOOTED WAGON LOOK COOLER POST IT!!!!!!...... no presure

OK so first i thought i would try and add blue flames.... then i relised this was quite hard and i dont have the pataince or skill to pull it off.

so i returned to my graffiti and skullz theme i have going on and did that instead.

comments and improvements concerning the looted wagon would be great. im not sure really what else to do with it at the moment, but it just does'nt feel finished as such :/

I think the silver bits just look too clean. More scarring, battle damage, weathering on them. Things like rust, mud, dirt, paint chips, etc. Maybe some skorching around the end of the barrel of the gun, and the back of the Rokkits? Rust streaks dripping down from the edges of doors and armour plates (under the rivets, mostly), and a little spray of mud up the backside of the tank?

yea i can see what your saying, its the same sort off things i am having to do on the stompa. and i was thinking i was going to add the dirt and mud last because then it will be ontop off the other layers and look more realistic. i will be adding the rust for sure but i am not sure about how to do more chips, because the tank is mostly boltgun and i do my chips boltgun so
oh and lastly do you think i should add more physical battle damage at this stage or just paint it on/in?

"All shall kneel before Badrukk's Crotch-Cannon!!!" LOL
i have brown ink but i dont have a black so i will use the brown and see where that gets me but the thing is i used brown ink on a boltgun layer on the stompa and it just ends up coming out like it was painted tin bitz from the off. i will probs paint it into receases and then go over it boltgun so the inbetween bits look dirty. but hmmm

Paint if you wish. I'm generally more of a modeller than a painter, so I'd probably just hack some bits out, stick bullet holes into it in odd places, stuff like that. I think it'd give you more inspiration for how to paint the damage if you had a physical base to it.

Any paint can be turned into a wash or glaze with enough water. Don't let paint companies fool you. For a wash you'd want like 5-6 parts water to your paint (maybe more for dark colors like black) and for a glaze you'd want something closer to 10 to 1 water to paint. I use some old GW inks (with water mixed in), but mostly just to get rid of them. Think how GW does that verdigris turquoise on their rusty gold. That just watered down Hawk Turquoise or Scaly Green.

Glazes take a lot more time to achieve a proper look (a lot more) because they can require a whole load more coats, but you can garnish a lot of control with them and get some really good looking layers built up with them.

Just some ideas to save you some money and give you another painting technique to attempt. I do tend to ramble meaninglessly, so feel free to ignore me at anytime...

... Moltar, i have seen your painting blog. if your giving me advice on how to do painting techniques i would be a fool not to take it. next time i am painting i will mix up a batch of black wash then. i have the pots and the black so i might as well. BUT when you say 5-6 parts are you meaning 50-60% water to paint ratio? because i have never understodd that when ever anyone talks about mixing or blending or w/e.
thanks for the knowledge you bring

cool's i was going to do some more black wash's on it because the wash i did befor was kinda more glaze like. i reckon 2 more thin layers and then adding the mud and i will see what i am thinking. The black wash has actually been awesome so far so im defo going to be using that on my tanks ans tompa from now on.

I think your painting has improved and that is by far the best use of scrap I have ever seen. You have everything in there!

I'll echo the metal comment - more washes of Badab Black/Devlan Mud really. A lot more. Just paint them on and let them dry as to get a dark metal it takes some layers.

Loving the freehand though.

And haters? Here? Naaaah. Proper Orky spirit dis lot iz.

riiight im kinda a meky maker so i might be able to make you a mek boy or a big mek depending on what bitz i can find and salvage from what i have.
and i dont really mind tbh. a painboy would be cool or a flash git. but i would want it in your clan colours if thats ok.
oh and would you want yours painted or just made up?

A Pain Boy sounds fun. Never done one of them before. And yes I'll paint in my colors if you paint in yours. As for the pain boy I'm thinking like a Dr. Oct type back harness. And a oderly. I'm gonna have to go to the hobbie shop tomorrow morning and get supplies first. Running low on mats. So dont tell the wife. She will look me in the celler again. Smells like feet in there. You have been added to the list bigfish. Might take me a bit to get it done but you will have it.

ok painted it shall be, and a Dr. Oct back harness sound kick ass. i've already set up the basis of the big mek just need to sort him out a base and put him together. (i had the pieces already lined up for it for a while but he did'nt fit into any of my units so you shall have him)
and dont worry abouts time, no rush
thanks for offering the trade. anyway i will have yours made within the week but painting will be later.

im almost done making yours.... (i am really fast at building) i need to do some touch ups with green stuff but apart from that he is pretty much set up. i made a grot oiler/ammo grot. i'll explain on the picz.

BIGMEK

GROT BOT (ammo runt or grot oiler you can pick)

ok so the big mek first, it is a termi body with burnaboy arms a loota head and the legs from my old mega mek. i then added some extra armour in the form of the marine shoulder pads, and then gave him his set of meks tools.
next was the shoota, it is a bolter from the spacemarine bike set and a bolter from a OFP marine parts spure i had.

The grot bot thing is.. (inhales) a space marine bike wheel, a grot body from the lootas set, the grot head from the stompa kit, the klaw is made from scrap and a deff dread claw and the burna/skoorcha on the other side is made from a standard burna boy's burna, the eyes/ googly things are made from the deff dread kit and lastly the spike on the bike wheel is from the stompa kit.

the fluff is basically the mek built the grot bot after all his other grot helpers kept getting blasted to pieces or eaten or stepped on or the various other way a gretchin can die in a happy ork warband. so he took inspiration from the killa kanz and made his oiler a suit to help protect him from harms way. the suit also incorperates a klaw and a burna so the bot can help with battlefield repairs (and bloody combats) and a small wheel and suspension so he can carry his masters ammo and gubbinz.

tells me whats you thinks (i am going to clean it up quite a lot and drill the barrels just so you know)
hope you like it

UPDATE!
today peeps i did some more painting on the looted wagon and on the big mek with KFF.
took everyones advice on washes and did another 2 black washes all around and the 2 watered down bestril brown washes into the recesses and places that dirt would get stuck.
then using a technique i picked up from smurfmaster i weathered the tracks to look like they had just rolled through a WHOLE LOTA MUD.
i would be very happy to call this a finished model now but i just don'nt want to put it down. so next time painting some touch ups here and there and some more washes into the rivets ect. not really worth pictures for what i do next but hmm,. oh and i got some more colours on the mek. still quite a way to go with him but the model is a joy to paint, which is quite strange me saying that, but ANYWAY
ONTO PICTURES!

I like what you've done weathering-wise on the wagon. You can almost see the Deffgun shots going in the side and blasting out the magazine, then the Lootas falling on it, cleanin' it out, and fixin' it up.

the hook hands was a good idea. and thanks

the plan at the moment is to have them all with individual themes on each model, i.e. having a flashgit who kills a lot of tyranids and then having on that kills a lot of marines ect ect.

so then the squad will have a tyranid killa, a marine killa, a eldar killa, and then im not sure about the other 2. im considering guard but dont have parts for different one. might go and see if i can buy one chaos marine or one tau to use off ebay or something.

UPDATE

so making long coats is'nt as hard as i thought, but trying to get it all smooth is. i am thinking i will let this one dry paint him individually and then see what it looks like, then go from there.
but at the moment. its looking ok. just trying to make each one look like a grizzled mass murdering veteren of many wars is quite weird really. im dont usually put this much time into making my boys look like characters or inviduals.
anyway i so far have these guys.
going from left to right they are:

ork killa - marine killa - guard killa - eldar killa - nid killa

im thinking they need proper names, like the "kreg the krazed killa" or something like that. i dunno just to give them more character. it talks about in the codex how some of them are like legends or celebs, so i want mine to have names that related to their historys and legends. anywsy
surgestions on this front would be good.
anyway pics

eldar killing flashgit

marine killa flashgit

small update

ive been looking at what i have and how it all fits together and decided i am going to go with some sub clan elementts instead of just deathskulls.

This is what units are for which clan so far:

deathskulls

looted wagon

battle wagon

truck and 12 boyz with nob

3 deffkopters (the looted ones)

3 kanz

3 deff dreads

2 squiggoths

2 bigmeks

20 boyz (in battle wagon)

4 nobz

15 lootas

stompa

Evil sunz

warboss with claw

19 boyz

3 deffkopters

and a battle wagon

freebooters

flash gits squad

and thats as far i have got with dividing the clans up. i want to get everything on this list painted befor i buy or make anything new. but the things that i want to add are
The evil sunz battle wagon, a mega dread for the death skullz, a battle fortress for the death skullz and a skull hamma for the evil sunz.
but thats going to be after all the other stuff on the lists is painted up and made.

Oh and on the flash gits front i am thinking purple, not excessivly but in the mix.

(strange doing a update with no pictures)

thanks for looking

ok's so i have decided that im redoing my battle wagon

it was originally because i was not liking the paint job but now i look at it it is'nt that great on the board either. so i am taking it apart and remaking it (d/w only the tracks and the side pannels where from the original oop landraider kit the rest was scrap)

but anyway , i am thinking about giving it a deff rolla, grot riggers, armour plates, ard case and thats as far as i have got so far. wepons wise i dont know what to give it.

ANYBODY KNOW A GOOD WAY TO KIT OUT A BATTLE WAGON?
the only requirement is it has to have a deff rola a ard case and it needs to transport 20 boyz.

thanks

First off, I absolutely know there'll be people telling you not to go with the 'ard Case. I won't be one of them. I love 'Ard Case, and honestly, unless you're making a BurnaWagon or filling it with Shootaboyz or Lootaz as a mobile Bunker, you're not gonna be doing much shooting out of it, and those free pivots you get mean you can always turn it so a side or the back will be towards what you want to assault. Only thing is, you can't assault out of a non-open topped vehicle... But anyways.

I'm trying out a bit of an odd version of a BW myself, a sort of CC tooled up wagon, with Ard Case, Deffrolla, WRekkin ball, Plank and Grabbin Klaw. YOu could try something similar, but even if you don't... Put on some extra Armour, maybe make some magnetized Grots or plates or something for those additional bits of wargear. If you're going 'ard Case, get a boarding plank. No Stikkbomb chukkas, since you won't be assaulting out of it. Grabbin klaw might be useful, keep other Vehicles there if you want to pile out your Nobz, Meganobz or SC to assault something, as it effectively immobilizes it for that turn you need to get out to assault. Stick on some Big Shootas or Rokkits, and maybe a Kannon, or just a place for a turret.

i decided not to post and just too look, seems like everyone has a different amazing tactic which makes the tactical comment before it look silly. but i read through and it seems a lot of people write lists to have battle wagons slot into different specific roles, and unless you have the rest of the list they have wrote the battle wagon just is'nt as effective.
thanks though. btw saw your thread on it and tbh get what you like and make it how you want, whats the point of having a amzing super competive army list if you dont like the units in it.
go with what you like untill you get to a stage where you have enough models to pick and choose from the stuff you have to make a competitive list.... (that way you have a shed load more models as well )

Right, its carrying a mob of "19 shooter boyz with bospole and 1 rokits, with a big mek with KFF ,burna , heavy armour, and cybork body" so if i had a boarding plank it would be useless because none of them can actually pen the armour at the mo (although this could be changed?) and considering im getting d6 auto hits on w/e im tank shocking anyway (do you get the extra d6 if you tank shock a tank?) do they really need the plank for the extra 3 that will probs hit on 6's because the tank has moved 12". im just not sure if it is worth it, i can see if you tool it up to be a CC wagon how effective it can be but i mainly play against NIDs so the boarding plank and grabbin claw would again not work :/. wrecking ball though i will look into but again you cant use it if it has gone 12" :/
wat i was thinking tactically was to have it drive up into the enemys lines and unload the shootaboy and mek. at this point the wagon will still be close enough to get the 4+ save from the kff and the boys will be able to shoot off their shooters into what ever target i was aiming for. Then next turn if the wagon is still alive it will roll around crushing tanks and infanytary and cause a mess of the battle line whilst the mek and his boys combat it up.
but then at the same time i am thinking modeling wise how i could do a grabbin claw and wreaking ball?
i think i will get the base for the tank done and set it up like this:
deff rolla
grot riggers
armour plates
ard case
and then see what i am thinking. i am quite liking what you said about having a big gun on it like a kannon and i have the parts, but i was saving them for a battle fortress i am planning but i guess if i made them detachable it would'nt be a problem.
anyway thanks, you've given me some stuff to thinks about.

Oh and whats your oppinion on kilkannons?

Well, the deal with '12 inches, can't use' on Wrekkin balls is kinda moot on Battlewagons, 'cause they can't actually go faster than 12" a turn. Remember, rPJ means they go 13, but act as though they're goin' 12. That Str. 9 hit against anything within 2" that's not in combat could be useful. Though don't make the mistake I did and model your Wrekkin' ball so small it can't hit things on the other side of the Wagon.

Personally, I love Killkannons. Now, that might just be because I've never played a Boomwagon before, but I love having a Large Blast at AP3, partially because I play MEq a lot. And Ordinance is real nice when dealing with anything AV12 or lower. The only thing is, because it's Ordinance, I can't fire all my other guns when I'm using it, so I usually end up either moving 6" and firing it, or staying still and shooting off all 4 of my Rokkits, with whatever Heavy gun I also might have. It is nice to be able to have that large blast even when moving, though.

However, I just found out (might have even been this thread) that you cannot take Killkannons in Dedicated Transport wagons, so you'll want to watch out for that.

In short, they're large, obnoxious and shooty, and might scatter on to your own units. But in my eyes, More Explosions is a good thing. Doesnt' matter what's doing the exploding.

hmmmm, wrecking ball then . i think i would only take one if i could move it so it could get within 2" of all of my battle wagon, like having it in the middle and then have it be able to turn to get any side. but i am quite liking the sound of that tbh .
but the transport cap could be a problem with the killkannon :/.
i think i will leave the killkannon then, as i have a looted tank with boomgun anyway so i have marine killing power.
thanks for the advice.

UPDATE

BATTLE WAGON PRODUCTION SO FAR

The main things with the battle wagon are 1) i have filped it round so the front looks larger and more menecing and 2) ive added about twice as much plateing as i usually would.
but i think it is coming along quite well. tbh though i think i would have had it done by now but unfortunatly there are other things that need my attention other than plastic ( )

but heres what i am kinda working from/ inspired by. i found them in a white dwarf and they just looked too cool.

oh and i took he kannon off the squiggoth. i needed a base for a super kannon i am planning and it was just perfect, and well the squiggoths open toped anyway so meh.

i missed your response from before dude sorry.
And it is the most "fun" way of doing it.
For example i hardly ever will use my 890 point stompa in a game and when i build my 670 point batle fortress its probs not going to see the battle field anywhere near as often as a battle wagon, but i enjoyed making and having the stompa and i will enjoy making and having the battle fortress so it does'nt matter.
oh and i read your sig, you know there are downloadable spell checkers for what you type on here and the rest of the internet (its how i get round dyslexia )
happy waring or waaaarghing depending on what your using

so i came back to my warboss and made some additions to his armour and general scaryness. i think he is pretty much ready to be basecoated and painted up which is really nice, cant wait to test out my speed freaks scheme on him.

so if you could'nt tell, i added a tyranid carni plate on his right shoulder and a bit of extra armour on his face.

i know, its the most annoying part of scratchbuilding and honestly i dont think i spend enough time on it. i have been trying to take longer when making things and paying more attention to detail but it is just sooo long, it is making the stuff i find fun and when you have to spend that extra time on it it just becomes a bit too long for me. but oh well, it will be worth it in the end.

and thanks on the boss front. im really not sure if he is finished though but hohum.
next thing to be finnished will be the mega deff dread and then hopefully the time i have put into making it will show in the detail on it.

UPDATE ON THE BATTLE WAGON

so work has been slow as i have been revising for A levels and all of that milarki, but after a solid 4 hours of revision today i felt i deserved a treat of sorts.

Thus BATTLE WAGON PROGRESS (crowd cheers "wooo" "yay" ect)

so i have been looking at ways of scratch building a deffrolla for a while and this is close the final creation. i found that one of the main problems when making it was that the structure was'nt strong enough when hollow. so this lead to me basing the armour plates around some old wheels i had lying around to keep the rolla round and sturdy. this on the down side has lead to it being quite heavy though which is annoying as i am going to have to use a lot of surport structure on the plates holding it in place.
at the moment it is detachable and i am not going to attach it untill its painted, mainly so i can paint the bits behind it with out having to take it apart anyway.

i also did some work on a engine for this a while ago, this is PART of the engine which i plan to mount on top (as the back has to be a door for boyz to get in/ out of)

andthe last thing was that i changed the deffdreads crush mace arm for a tyranid talon. it just felt a lil messy as a conversion.

its only bluetacked for now but i will glue it after i get somemore glue.
i have liturally run dry on: super glue, plastic glue and green stuff and on top of that i need to buy the blues for the slightly different deathskulls scheme and the reds for the speed freaks theme i am doing on the black reach ork boyz and kopters. but then again tommorow is my last exam (psychology) and then shortly after its my birthday so that should replace the funds i spend on the supplys.
anyway ho hum.

This was quite a long update but if you read all or even some of the text thanks, COMMENTS WOULD BE GREAT, ESPECIALLY CONSTRUCTIVE CRITISM.

thanks

Really? i thought the one on the big mek looked so messy and ridiculus. i am agreeing with HAZZER though that hole is a bit of an eye sore, i think i might do something on the big mek then but i dont want it to be too static.
The old one was so he had a lil bit more cover as all he used to do was sit at the back with the lootas and give them some cover, but i hardly use him like that anymore so he is useually in other units that are running down field dakaing stuff.

AND i only did 5 of the ones i kustom made with the shield bases, none of the others (just because i usually put them at the front of the Mob anyway ).

but hmmm

OH and HAZZER, i will be watching for when you get your internet back online dude

UPDATE ON THE BATTLE WAGON!

Thanks guys btw

Riiiight so i resupplyed and started back on the battle wagon. Pics below

Its getting to a stage now where i am thinking "dam this is getting big"

i have also been working on the 2 big shooters on it. the main thing when making these was working out how to make them pivot and detach with what i have. i have used a simple solution and i think it works ok enough.
the big shotter is on a round base which is slotted into a hole in the panel it sits in, this then allows it to pivot and be detachable. i was thinking about using magnets but tbh they are a pain in the ass imo.

i am planning on having it mounted on the front. But anyway.

Commments and Constructive Critism would be great

Thanks for looking

BATTLE WAGON

More work on the battle wagon

I am toying with the idea of having a back door that opens so orkses can get out and you can see inside. but i cant think of a good way of getting the door to open/ close?
This is what i have at the moment.

And then maybe with a face on it so it looks like its opening and closeing its mouth. but hmmm.

The turret is working well and i think i am going to mirror it on the other side and then use it as 2 big shooters and in bigger games as 4 bigshooters. oh and i am thinking about adding a kannon somewhere on it (detachable).

Anyway thanks for looking

How about a pulley either side of the door, to raise and lower it portcullis style? If you had a hook halfway down the body (either side) and 2 knots or loops in the 'rope' you could hook it in an open or closed position?

I cant decide what impresses me more. The conversion or the fact you are using a Rogue Trader Land Raider.

Honestly i had to check to see what a portcullis was. I was thinking about it and i dont think i am actually going to need it to phsically move. so i am thinking about haveing the portcullis sort of design but without the chains pulling it up and then just taking the door off when i want to use it open topped and put it on when i want it to be ard case.

40kFSU wrote:I cant decide what impresses me more. The conversion or the fact you are using a Rogue Trader Land Raider.

lol. glad to be impressive

On a side note
So i have been basecoating the lootas today and also started repainting the deffdread with scything talon to they will be up shortly. im doing the deff dread in a different scheme i am testing out which will be used on the battle wagon.
Oh and as well as that i did a lil work on the battle wagons rear hatch. i really wan to have it as a skull head and jaw. anyway

thanks for comments, more stuff will be up soon

DEFF DREAD

did a new scheme on the deff dread. it was modian blue, scorched brown was and then a highlight of shadow grey. then i drybrushed it boltgun and added tin bitz bits to it.

i was really wanting to test the scheme on this before i do it on my battle wagon. its not finnished so constructive crit would be good. thanks.

I have been thinking about bases a lot resently and how throughout the army i dont really do much with them. so i have decided to actually paint them. i want to do them chaos blacl, drybrush beastrial brown, drybrush scorched brown and then static grass or something. i have'nt really based anything properly before so this will be a bit new to me but ho hum.

Anyway

BATTLE WAGON UPDATE

getting quite a lot done recently its great.
(just finished 6thform and have a break untill september when i start my next course )

Ok so i did some more work on the battle wagon today. Pics below explanation after pics.

Ok so what has changed from last pics.

@I have added the extra bits on the tracks. This was done because there was this huge mold line that went in and out at various points on the track and i just did'nt like it at all.

@ I also added the other big shooter/s onto the other side as well as armouring up that side.

@ and altough it is'nt that noticable i ruffed up some more of the plates to give them a more "used" apperance.

Right i thought doing the opening hatch door thing was going to be a problem, turns out not that bad once i got the bits all on it.

so yea thats all cool. Oh i added a exhaust as well.

Next step will be adding the bolts onto all the plates... how fun

anyway
COMMENTS WOULD BE GREAT!
(there will probs be another update tomorrow and i dont want to have to wait to 7 something to post so it does'nt "ammend the posts", so someone comment even if its just a " .,@*&%$£! " or something)..... (that was'nt swearing that was examples of things that could be typed........... )

Thanks BigFish out

(i got my BMX back from a mate after he had tweaked it and i had to go and test it out... then kinda ended up spending my whole day in the skate park. but oh well it was AWESOME and i can now backflip . anyway back to orks)

Anvildude wrote:I'd cut some chunks out of the bottom of the door, so it's more obviously toothy.

done it. dont know how clear it is but i jagged up the plate to make it more teethy. i think it looks better.
so thanks for the advise

thanks, i imagined it as any ork that cant get passed the door without losing a limb does'nt deserve to be in the fight anyway .

OK WHAT I HAVE DONE TODAY

so after i came in at like 4 i started looking at basing. i thought that since i had already done mud on my tank tracks i should do somethig that fits in with that on the bases. PICS BELOW

so it is kinda like a muddy field or something like that. This was liturally my first attempt ever at basing and not just using sand on its own.
I WILL NOT GO BACK TO NORMAL BLACK BASES (untill i base my salamanders)

(ABOVE) also painted and based 2 of the kustoms with shields. think they are looking pretty sweet .

Next i am basing the dread (well currently basing him, just waiting for paint to dry)

THANKS FOR READING

Return of the flash gits

Ok so recently i rebegan work on the flash gits unit. Progress below.

so with the "ELDAR KILLA" i have added the helmet and added some more green stuff to smooth out the cloak. pretty happy with it.

NID KILLA: so with this one i was really just adding the green stuff bandages to cover up the join between the claw and the arm.

MARINE KILLA: pretty much the same idea of covering the join line with this one as well. later on i was thinking i could ruff it up a bit more and make it more metaly in texture.

CHAOS KILLA: so what i did here was i added khorne symbols to his belly plate and left arm, really all i did was cut the symbols directly into the model. when its comes to painting i was thinking about maybe a red glow from the cuts, but i will see later on. oh and i cut the chaos undivded symbol into his shoulder plate as well (although the hair almost compleatly covers it :( )

ORK KILLA: riight this is a new one really. The idea with this one is that he is a canibal ork who eats other orks for breakfast. The sight on his gun is made from the head of the mek that built it, and the head at the botterm of the chain on his choppa was a particually hard ork to kill, so was given the honour of being mounted on his weapon.

THE FLASH GITS

....... i also based the deff dread

COMMENTS ARE ALWAYS WANTED AND GREATLY APPRECIATED

UPDATE OF ORKY GOODNESS

(THIS IS A LONG UPDATE WITH LOTS OF PICS)

so i am building a ruzzbot for a comp now for sure and i have deided how i am going to make it and what i am going to use. But i am not going to post any WIP pics on here as i want it to be a surprise when it goes into the comp... This means that if there are large areas with no posts or progress its because i am working on that .

Right now thats out of the way PROGRESS!!!!.. (and LOTS of pics)

so to start with i worked on the flashgits again. I started painting eldar killa.

i wanted something flashy that also looked a bit eldar inspired, im going to do a design over the coat pattern after i am finished with it.

Then i did some work on the CHAOS KILLA

kinda ruffed up his cape so it looks more worn and generally evil and chaos'y (is that a word... meh)

Then i put some bolts on the battle wagon

Worked on marine killas cape some more and then did the basing on the dread.

And then, after the bolts and glue had dryed i based the battle wagon black and then boltgun for now (i hate having them just black)

Right now thats out the way.....

Any constructive crit is alway great and general oppinions are always taken on board and appreciated.

thank you for taking the time to look at my project blog

Thanks man, tbh all i have done is added the cape and messed with the gun a lil and then everything else is just kitbashing (Nob Flash Git). you did just give me an idea about face paint though . on and i started painting the wagon yesterday .

Battle wagon

so these pics are just showing what i have done paint wise and then there are a few with an ork loota just for scale really on the different parts. (i have only started to paint the front and the side...)

Anyway, i based all of the extra bits like the deffrolla, big shooters and the door and the loota as said above is just there for scale. in all the pics he is pretty much next to what ever it.

Thanks for looking, constructive Criticism is always appreciated as are general comments, sub if you want as i tend to update a lot and well

keep dakaring

Thanks, in hindsight i should have made the inside big enough to carry my truck, then i could have entered it in the truck comp as a truck carryer.

This is everything that is done, everything else is being redone or changed. so really your comment is irrelevant as all of the things that have lego on them are being changed or addapted anyway.

But thanks for your incredibly useful input.

I'm aiming for a continuum of forces. My main force is a Dinonid splinter fleet; I have a side army of Orknids that were about 1500 under the old Codex (they're on hiatus for now); I plan to do a Guard army with alternate Cult/Ultramar Defence Force centrepiece units so it can be an ally or adversary; and the Kult army is planned to be a walker-heavy Ork force with lots of mad conversions.

I just won a Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Devastator toy on eBay that's getting made into a Stompa built by an Ork kultur that revers Da Four-armed Empra as da god Gork an' Mork are scared of. Yeah, I'm going there

sounds awesome indeed. you could use the dread mob rules from imperial armour 8 (i think its 8) where it talks about having dread and killa kan armys. check it out anyway because it is quite good fro modeling ideas like mega dreads and stuff

:O gork and mork will not be pleased, might have to waaargh against you then to stop your waaargh from getting Da Four-armed Empra strong

Started doing mud on the tracks, pics below.

i did'nt really want it to have the reflectivyness that it has but what can you do ay, oh wait i can just do another duller layer tommorrow

anyway i came across a theoretical problem today, how am i going to do the mud on the deffrolla? i dont want it to be caked in mud but at the same time i dont want it to look out of place next to the tracks quite a conundrem really, but i will cross that bridge when i come to it.

thanks for looking

Actually, I really like the reflectivy-ness. Makes it look fresh, still wet.

Maybe try just a thin layer on the main body of the roller, but have caked chunks of muck on the edges? So the surface that does the crushin' is still fairly clean-ish, but on either side, just in from the edge, is a ring of gunk that doesn't get scraped off by the ground and bodies.

this was very similar to what i was thinking originally and now i am just leaning towards having the deffrolla slightly raised? but then the weight distribution will be messssed up. so hmph?

i think i will try and do the mud on the sides thing but i am not sure how it will turn out? worst case senario i sand it off and do it again

Maybe some streaks of red/dark reddish brown and/or red wash on the rolla and treads, as though they were running over stuff? Or just little bits of different shades, maybe a chip or a spot of blue- right now it's a little too evenly muddy- which could be exactly what you want, depending on what you envision it running over (muddy, grassy field, for instance, as opposed to rocks and mud puddles or beakies)

But yeah, looks awesome.

It's looking good, bigfish. I would deface that aquila on the top though. Scratch it up, file off one of the eagle heads, etc. I think, that despite being a looted imperial vehicle, that eagle needs to be orkified.

i was kinda thinking muddy grassy fields tbh because thats how the rest of my stuff is based, but i do think it is a bit even so i guess i could add another drybrush of a darker brown and then maybe patches of subtle redy browns?
i will think about it though

i might take some chunks out the the edges and generally ruff it up a bit then with my scalpel, just to make it a bit more uneven and orkyfide.

All of this has been very helpful guys thanks

Ok so with the battle wagon i have done the ruffing up of the top imperial eagle but i was'nt really feeling the blood effect on the tracks and rolla so i think i am going to leave that for now.
next thing to do now will be to finish the lootas unit and the truck and 12 boys units so i have a legal army.

Try using either a different mettalic or a bit of weathering (light drybrush or wash of red or brown or black or whatever) on some of the smaller plates of the metal bits, like the jaw of the belt, or the bolted on plates on the Klaw, shoulder pads and guns- it's an easy way to give them a lot more depth, and make them look more detailed.

i just did it today this morning so i missed your post but i think i have kinda done what you described anyway

thinking the power claw arm needs a bit off a clean up on the metal blue paint. But considering i am very happy with this as is.

Cool stuff, they're Death Skulls, right? That's what I'll be painting mine if my boyz ever arrive from eBay.

Awesome, more boyz for the deathskulls camp. if you are doing death skulls you might want to save some of the bits from your spacemarines and put them on your boyz when you get them. just to make them even more deathskully

What are you unhappy about? It may give us some idea of what to suggest...

It looks to me that more coats of thinned paint to block out the colours better is in order - but I'd hate to suggest that if that was the effect you were after!

I feel like the first and third one could use some checkers on the wings. However, I'm confused, because I don't know what that slice of pepperoni is doing on the front of the third one.

I agree with Arakasi, knowing what you're unhappy with would help us make suggestions for you.
