World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2011/09/24 17:28:32

Post by: Biohazard

Ive just joined this site and wanted to share my Worldeaters project.
I dont actually play the games but I love all the background and associated imagery of the 40K universe especially the Chaos side of things. I took a long break from the hobby and only recently started back up again inspired by a few sites like this. Ive been a little lax with hobby time lately but have been working on the Dread again today. No camera at the mo so the old pics will have to do you just now.

These are all copied from my logs on other sites. Let me know what you think.
The Dread WIP

Termis WIP

Skull Champ/Zerkers WIP

Daemon Princes

First properly painted mini in almost 15 years. I kept this guy quite plain as I wasnt sure how I would handle painting lots of fiddly bits and pieces.
Pics arent the greatest but let me know what you think.

Cheers

Nice work Bio, the dread is coming on very nicely.

Great conversions! So you're the guy over at Throne of skulls, that I shamelessly stole the idea for my second dread from. I just thought that the defiler head and the pose was such a great idea that I had to do one.

Thanks for the comments guys. I've done a little more work on the dread but nothing really update worthy. Guitarasmus steal away buddy, there's elements on there that I may have 'borrowed' from other people

I am still working on my WE Ive just been hammered for time lately but I bought myself a Defiler kit and a Land Raider kit last week. Im now on leave from work and have been playing and come up with this so far. :evil1: This is going to take a while to build and its gonna cost a feckin fortune but its something Ive had in my head for a long time. Im hoping when done it wil be quite reminiscent of ED-209 and the old Space Crusade Dread. Nothing is glued yet.

Let me know what you think folks.

Thanks a lot guys. Like I say the Titan will taka while as I still need to buy another defiler as well as loads of other bits and pieces.
Something else to show you all. Ive been working on my Daemon Prince today. The gs will be smoothed out and there is still a lot to be added but thought I would show some WIP.

And calling it done for tonight. Will look at it again tomorrow and if Im quite happy with it I will start painting.

Personally, I would remove the 2 bladey bits off the DPs sword, I find them really extra

Thanks guys. Unfortunatley the GS on the DP's helm wasnt as smooth as I thought it was and shows a bit through the paint but I dont really mind. Ive also noticed a couple of mold lines but Im not going to bother with them its just something Ill have to be extra vigilant for in my next DP build.

Amazing start. I am really loving the face-off thing with the marines, it actually makes them look meaner which is not how I thought that would have gone down. The price is amazing too and the dread. Eager to see more.

Thanks for the support guys. The Princes head is actually scratch built using two Defiler head plates and the jaws of an Ork boy with a bit of green stuff to hold it all together. I've no idea where the horns came from they were in my bits box so were used Again thanks for the positive feedback it helps me push on.

Very nice! The daemon prince looks so much better than the standard out-of-the-kit one. For the sword you could do it either like the bloodletter's swords or do it glowing a malevolent and sinister colour.

Great stuff so far. I've done all my power weapons with a green gradient, since it gives a nice contrast to all the red, and makes the red seem "more red".

You've got some absolutely gorgeous minis there - that's one of the coolest DPs I've ever seen - but those mould lines are really jarring and it's sad to see them on such lovingly built models

I agree with green. Maybe some green OSL coming from the center "crack" in the sword?

Yeah I noticed the mould lines halfway through painting. I decided not to bother starting again as I was on a bit of a roll with him but my next 2-3 DPs will be a lot cleaner. They are bothering me a bit so i may actually sort out the worst ones before finishing him though.

@StasisNid That may be the kind of thing Ill go for. Possibly with Greens instead of reds though. I have to wait till later in the week though as I only have Goblin Green and dont fancy mixing up a load of different shades from that.
@Killmaimburn Ive never used Plasticard so have no idea if id be able to pull off anything decent. Thanks for the idea though.

Captain Solstice, How do you mean the red looks flat? The pics arent the greatest tbh and have washed out some of the transitions on the highlights but any suggestions to improve it are welcomed.

Its been a while since I worked on these guys but Im hoping to have a slight update on this DP and a WIP of my 2nd DP over the weekend.

I think green for the sword is a great idea. You need something to break up all the red. Have you chosen a primary spot color for your army?

Keep up the great work!

Rawson, I have taken care of the worst mould lines on this DP as they did really start to annoy me. Its not perfect but it is a little better. Ill take extra care during assembling my next one.
Ps I think I am going to go with green for the spot colour. Ill try and work on the sword over the weekend and see how I get on.

Pps Captain Solstice, like I say the pics kind washed the transitions out a little but Im always open to suggestions.

I love the Daemon Prince, but i think the base could do with a little more 'stuff' on it. You could have blood running from the edges of the raised platforms or something. Maybe a dead/dying marine?

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/01/19 15:46:34

Post by: Biohazard

I agree about the base needing something else. I am planning on adding hazard markings or hangar numbers to the bases but I want to wait till I have them all completed. I did look at the dead/dying marine etc but it just seemed to really crowd the base and detract from the Prince. I'll keep playing around with it.

Well I didnt get to work on the DP's at all last month. Had an hour to spare earlier though so only have a very minor update on the Dred. It still needs quite a bit of GS'ing to tidy up the right shoulder and add the WE symbol on the left.

I'm glad to see your work again.

Your dread is of the same quality as your other conversions (that is excellent). The CCW would'nt look better if it was a GW release.
The hanging skulls, ammo belt and orientation of the head are also emphasizing the dynamic of the model. Great job.

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/02/02 13:56:12

Post by: Biohazard

@Masterslowpoke. The DP head was made with two defiler face plates and a set of Ork jaws with green stuff botching it all together. While I like it I have another couple of ideas so will have more DP soon. (hopefully)

@Hyenajoe thank you very much for the kind words. Its nice to see my efforts appreciated.

Right guys. Not an update as such but a little sneak peak.
I've been wanting to start a small Imperial force for a while mainly because I've been working on my WE on and off for years now. When I first started the hobby with the 2nd Edition box set I used to play Ultramarines. As soon as I found out about the first tyrannic war etc I was hooked. Those guys fell by the wayside as I picked up on Chaos but I've always loved that part of their history.
Over time I heard more and more about the Scythes of the Emperor who were almost wiped out entirely in the 2nd Tyrannic war. Even better! I decided a few years back that these were the marines for me I also found a website dedicated to these lost souls namely TheScythes.com On here I read about the Salvation teams. Small hard hitting units whose soul purpose was to chase down any rumours of surviving Scythes in the galaxy in hopes of rebuilding and re armouring. This is what I want to start modelling. I also really liked the alternative colour scheme found on here, I personally feel it looks a lot better than the one piece swimsuit.

Right now that healthy text block is out the way it's down to business. Sitting tonight suffering another regular bout of insomnia I decided to get up and do some work on the Black Reach marines I'd bought for the purpose of testing colour schemes. I did hit one problem though. I only own Sunburst yellow and Iyanden Darksun. This is a problem at 02:30 when you're all fired up for painting yellow. Bollox! I decided to use the Oyanden as a basecoat though and see how I got on i have taken one marine up to Sunburst level and i do quite like the look. I'll pick up some more paints later today to try other schemes.
Anyway heres a quick squint at what I roughed out this a.m.

These are just TEST models. When I work on my full Salvation Squad it will be fairly conversion heavy. I'll start a WIP for them once I have a bit more to show.

I love having free time after a dayshift.
Today I started mocking up my 2nd Daemon Prince who may end up being my version of Doombreed. Im not 100% sure yet. One thing I am sure of is I want this guy to have heavier armour than my first attempt.

Let me know what you think. I will be working on the horns so they look more part of his skull.

Very promising start on the DP! What is that facemask? Is it one of the new Ogre Kingdoms helmets? Looks great!

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/03/07 18:42:30

Post by: Biohazard

It is from one of the new Ogre kits. I dont know which one as I got it from a bitz site. I cut away the Ogres lower jaw and replaced it with one form an orc boy. I lowered the jaw a little more to make it look like he is roaring a bit more. Will need a fair bit of Greenstuff to fix this all up but Im liking how its going.

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/03/07 19:00:14

Post by: ghosty

I'd say lose the lower set of horns. Maybe have a smaller pair on top like the first DP? It'd tie them in nicely. I like the idea of using the necrosphynx parts for lower leg armour, have you considered using it's feet as well? (I think I can see them in the bottom piccy, but I can't be sure.)

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/03/07 19:43:03

Post by: Biohazard

Im gonna have a rake through my bitzbox to see if I have any other horns Im not sure of them myself. The feet on him are just the standard DP ones, the Necros feet are a bit too big so look a little strange.

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/03/08 09:05:45

Post by: Hyenajoe

This new DP looks promising. The Necrosphynx bits you've used for the legs are nice, what part is it exactly and where did you get it?

If you allow me an opinion, I agree with ghosty on the horns, and I'd suggest to move the lower jaw upward, as it seemed to be on your first pic.

What do you have in mind for the arms?

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/03/08 10:39:06

Post by: Biohazard

I'm not too sure about the horns either. I'll try some other options later on. I will be returning the jaw to the original position as I agree looking back at the pics today it looks better. For the arms I'll probably use the standard DP arms altered a little or I have some Minotaur arms I may try I don't know if the scale will be right on them though. And all opinions are welcome buddy. The necro sphinx parts are the leg armour I got them from Hoard o Bits on eBay a while back and thought of give them a try. I need to work on them to get the to fit the style of the helmet a little more.

I agree! The helms look great! I may have to steal that method, I have been putting off getting my Zerkers finished because I really don't like how boring the standard zerker looks. I may have to spice them up a bit by "slicing" them up a bit! I don't think Berzerkers would mind that logic!

Wow I really, really like his paint scheme. I know, it's black and red but the way it's done is very pleasing to the graphic designer in me.

Zerkers are all built now and just awaiting final details (ie removing the SW insignia and GS the gaps) before I paint them.
I also ordered a Furioso right arm as Im thinking of giving the Dread dual DCCW's. What do you think? Stick with the TLHB or switch?

If it's a Khorne Dread, it should ALWAYS have dual DCCW! Well, in my opinion anyway!

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/03/30 21:47:16

Post by: Biohazard

@RSJake. A guy over on B+C nailed the idea of the Dread perfectly.
SincaiN said
'I think the look of duel DCCWs looks very menacing .. I'm sure a huge behemoth with a giant gun would be too but it stalking up on you throwing sparks as it grinds its bladed fingers together really strikes me ... that's my vote .. '

So yeah the DCCW is staying I just need to figure out how to work up a right handed claw similar to the left.

For PapaPiggy.
Heres as good a pic as Im going to get of my Scythes rough test. The guy on the left is pre Golden yellow layers. and you can see where Ive washed the bascoat of Iyanden on the Dread

Free time has been a bit of a rarity again lately. Managed to squeeze in half hour tonight and started gluing the foot and roughing out ideas for the leg. This should work out between 6-8 inches high once finished. You can also see the bare bones of the second foot that I've thrown together tonight as well.

Post by: Biohazard

Sounds like a plan. And thanks for the comment. I'd have this finished if only I could focus on one thing at a time. Haha!
Messing around a little more. I'm going to have to beef the hip joint up in a big way. Only the foot is glued at this point. Everything else is experimental. The Land Raider carcass it's resting on will be the basis of the torso hopefully. Not 100% sure how I'm going to work it yet but I'll figure something out.

Here's a little more work on the hips. All gaps will of course be strengthened and filled. This is just rough WIP.

Cheers Tinfoil, that is the kind of look I want to go for hence the crazy kitbash. I want to keep a consistent level of detail that I know I couldn't achieve using raw materials.
Got the majority of the left leg built. Need to wait on parts to complete the frame work at the bottom of the leg as it supports a good bit of weight.

I was up to my eyes in Defiler parts and plastic shavings earlier and then I decided to open the Terminator Lord kit I bought ages ago and started playing around with that.

My Lords, Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the first rough draft of Brother-Captain Malek Deimos. Former Captain of Angrons Devourers.

I should add he will have a sword in his right hand eventually.

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/04/16 08:38:11

Post by: KrautScientist

A very promising start, brother Nothing like building another Termie Lord in order to relax. I must know, I built four of them already

Although I do have to say I really dislike that particular head...

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/04/16 09:02:29

Post by: Rawson

I feel that I am in the same place: needing a side project to catch my attention!

I like that you're putting the zerker ears not on the heads of the termies. It looks good and is a unique solution!

CC-wise: the head doesn't bother me so much as the shield on his chest. What were you going for there? It doesn't seem to really mesh well with the surrounding style.

Keep up the good work! (and we are all eagerly looking foreward to a TITAN update )

Rawson

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/04/16 09:22:24

Post by: Biohazard

Thanks for the replies folks.
If you've played Dragon Age 2 then hopefully you can kinda see what I was going for with the shield on the chest. It would need a lot more integrating and I do agree that it isn't really working. I'll have a rethink of that. The head I actually feel is one of the better looking CSM heads. I really dislike helmetless models but on Terminators I think there is something sinister looking about the heads with rebreathers. I also like the wiring on the head to further give the impression of the cerebral implants.

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/04/16 10:11:15

Post by: KrautScientist

I love the use of the shield and I am sure it will look really cool once you add some kind of heraldry, either by adding a suitable bit (the small Khorne icons from the Bloodcrusher kit come to mind) or by painting on the legion badge like Wade did with this model:

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m860394a_2010-02-01_1_370x278.jpg

I like the idea of using more "heraldic" elements, even if it is in a Chaos force.

About the head: I see where you're coming from with the wiring! That really is a cool feature! If only the rebreather with that goofy (Tzeentchian?!) eye symbol wasn't that awful! But that is a matter of personal prefernce, of course.

Keep up the great work!

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/04/16 10:21:09

Post by: Biohazard

Yeah that was the first thing I did with the head. Chopped off the eye. I need to tidy the rebreather up a little yet.
And the bit from the bloodcrusher is exactly what I had in mind for the shield. Like I say he is a very rough draft and still subject to change.
I got both the legs of the Titan glued today so I'm just waiting on the parts for the left foot to see if it will stand alone. I'm also scouring for pieces and inspiration for the torso. And arm/weapon mounts. This may be another expensive month.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

That walker is going to be immense!

Looks great! If you are still worried about the hip joints, adding armor there would build up the look of it.

Looking great!

I too have a Termy Lord kit I have been itching to put together! None of the weapons in the kit are big enough though. I shall have to build a nice large axe!

I also like the bunny ears on the collar of the termy armor. I may have to try that.

Once again, very inspiring! Our recipes for converting World Eaters Terminators are virtually identical, so these would look right at home in the 4th assault company. You know, just in case you don't need them anymore Any ideas for the weapon in the Captain's right hand? Oh, and were did you get that armoured loincloth thingie on the ninth model from the top (the one with the Khorne icon as his helmet crest)? Is it from the Storm Vermin kit?

As always, I'm thrilled to see more!

Its always an Honour to hear from the Hunters brother. As for the bit imnot actually sure where I got that Kraut, I think it may have been from an ork? I tend to browse Hoard o Bits and buy really random bits and pieces. Lol. That Icon bearer is actually my 2nd favourite terminator. I cant wait to sort out some meaty lightning claws for him and his brethern. I still need to add the Khorne symbol to his forehead as well. Deimos (my fav) will be getting a sword of some description. I'm thinking of arming him similarly to Abaddon which would mean turning his fist into a claw and adding the twin bolsters somewhere.

Cheers

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/04/16 21:59:20

Post by: KrautScientist

Hmm, you may want to consider a Bloodletter sword for Deimos - or even better, one of the swords from the Bloodcrusher kit. Those make awesome (daemon) weapons for officers - I used one with a Khorne rune as its handle for my Raptor Lord Charun (see my sig, although I believe you already saw him here or on TOS).

Just tacked together a squad of Lightning claw Termies myself. Termies are always a treat to build! If only they were just as much fun to paint...

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/04/16 22:35:27

Post by: Biohazard

Yeah I was thinking one of the Daemon swords or maybe the sword from the Chaos Lord on Manticore. I'll have a look and see what I can find. And yeah I saw Charun over on ToS great looking model. I'm actually a little concerned about painting these Termis. Gonna paint up the rest of the Zerk squad before starting any of the other units. Deimos will be last probably so I can perfect my technique and paint him as well as I can.

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/04/16 23:07:12

Post by: KrautScientist

The champion sword from the Bloodcrusher kit is looking extremely brutal! So brutal, in fact, that I did not yet dare use it on an actual model I am saving it for some special project. But seeing as Deimos is probably going to be your army's leader, it might just be a great choice for him. The Manticor Lord and all his bits are admittedly also very nice, too!

I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I have only painted one of my WE Terminators as of this writing. He turned out reasonably well, but - like you - I am saving the truly spectacular models until my prowess at painting is big enough -- I only hope I will eventually have a go at them instead of being afraid of painting them forever

Post by: KrautScientist

Looking good, mate! I am still a big fan of the helmet conversion you did! It combines the best of bold worlds (sinister menace and the snarling grimace). Are the long horns at the top the ones from the Tzeentch icon that comes with the regular CSM kit, by the way?

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/04/17 10:09:35

Post by: Biohazard

Spot on. The long ones are from the Tzeentch icon, the curved ones are from the Soul Grinder sword and the small ones are from a CSM helmet.

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/04/17 10:32:05

Wow, four days without internet and I miss almost three pages of scratchbuilt goodness!

I officially demand a detailed tuto for your titan's legs! (I feel the urge to give a try at a Subjugator of Slaanesh )

The DP is looking great with the armorpiece!

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/04/20 18:39:50

Post by: Biohazard

Hyenajoe. I'll try and sort out a more detailed step by step of the legs. I quite fancy having a go at a Subjugator myself.

Like I said I'm back at work now so updates will be a little slower. I've ordered a few parts for my Titans torso those should be here the end of next week hopefully so I can start working on it again.

I had a play around with Demios' leg design tonight and came up with this. Looking for some opinions. What do you think of the skull? Or should I go for a simple planet?

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/04/20 19:54:49

Post by: KrautScientist

Huh, quite a tough choice... It's always awesome to see the World Eaters legion badge recreated, but the skull is also looking very nice. Both would probably work out equally nicely, can't really decide...

Sorry, I'm not helping, am I?

Two questions, though: In the first two pictures, the skull's alignment with regard to the maw looks slightly off, while it fits perfectly in the third picture. Did you change the position between the pictures or is it just a perspective thing? In any case, it's probably only blu-tacked anyway, right?

And what bit did you use for the jaws? Looking very nice!

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/04/20 20:11:20

Post by: Biohazard

Thanks buddy and no youre not helping Yeah its just blu-tacked at the min, I used the top row of teeth from the Defiler faceplate and the skull is from the Cairn Wraiths from WHFB
This one

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/04/20 20:23:43

Post by: KrautScientist

Hm, I almost suspected that the jaws were from that facemask. A pity really, I love that bit far too much to cut it up

Nevertheless, it's a lot of fun to see the amount of thought that goes into every part of Captain Deimos! That's how it should be for the big man in your army!

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/04/20 22:14:54

GiraffeX that's a pretty cool idea. With this type of leg it would have an almost catlike look to it. I think I'll stick to bi-pedal for now though.

Rawson thanks buddy glad you like.

Tarar2d2 I like that idea although due to the size of the bit (the skull is tiny) I think I'd struggle to pull it off. Looking at it again today I really like the look of the skull so it will stay. I'll try and glue it all and work on it a little more when I get home from work, after I've caught up on Game of Thrones.

I'm really enjoying your titan project. It's all from a Defiler kit (so far)? Really amazing work. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the body of this beast....

Thanks Yellowbeard, Its mostly from 2 Defiler kits so far.

Someone on another forum had mentioned how much this has cost which made me realise I had no idea how much Id spent on it so far. Soooo I made a list

Checking my ebay past purchases and remembering others, I can for those who are interested give you a little rundown of what Ive bought.
The store I buy my GW stuff has a 20% discount on the plastic kits and most of everything else is bought from either Hoard O Bits or TheBitzStore on ebay.

Right here goes. Obviously its nowhere near finished but this is the list so far.

Defiler (full kit) x 2 £62 approx
Land Raider (full kit) x 1 £31 approx
Dreadnought Legs x 2 £12
Rhino Plates I had in my bitsbox so free Yay!
LandRaider Lascannon Sponsons x 2 £15
Tau Devilfish (full kit) x 1 £12
Basilisk Dozer Blades x 2 £6
Drop Pod fins x 2 £1.98
Storm Raven Hull £4.43
Storm Raven Tail section. £1.98

Total approx £146.39
As you can see all of the parts can be bits ordered and it would probably work out a little cheaper. It is a lot of money but nowhere near FW prices...yet. Plus I have the satisfaction of designing and building it myself
Ill try to keep track of what I spend from now on and keep you up to date.

If this is breaking any forum rules mods let me know and ill remove it.

Wow! A lot of progress lately!

I like the way the autocannon feeds go through the headlight holes; looks natural! Also, that CCW (I'm assuming) is intriguing! Scale shot?

Will you be doing any hull work back by the exhaust vents? It looks a little wonky where the vents curve in and the hull stays straight.

Keep up the great work!
Rawson

Thanks Rawson, the CCW while I like it is a little too small for this project. There are a couple of other things I want to try. The back end needs a lot of work to make it all fit together. I haven't started cutting up there just yet as I want to see how the Stormraven hull I ordered looks. It may work better.

Thanks mate. Im looking at it just now and this is what I have so far.
I havent worked on a head yet, I know I want it to look a little like the Banelord but less organic. its going to take some creative cutting I think
This is what I had in mind previously for the torso obviously with a LOT more work

But I prefer this.

With and without the Landraider top plate. Need opinions here please folks.

I'd say with land raider plate. I love the feet and legs, nice and bulky, and very detailed. That circular saw you've done is also epic.

Love me some Hoard-o-bits!

The waist is looking a bit funny, imho. What if you mounted the hull a bit farther back? Maybe halfway on the angled section of the stormraven part. That would give a more low slung look and get rid of the Barbie waist

Keep up the great work!

Played with the hip mounting point.

The sheer scope of this project is really mind boggling! I mean it's one thing to build a Titan from MDF and foamcore, but to place all these little bits and put different vehicle kits together into some coherent whole -- I would be far too afraid for something like that So not only does it look fantastic already, the sheer amount of coordination necessary is awe-inspiring

That said, two questions, so I can better understand the general layout of that monster: Will the arms be attached to those defiler legs on the sides? And where will you be putting the head? Between the havoc launchers or at the very tip of the Stormraven chassis?

As for the choice of head: Great source material! At a glance, my favourites are the CC head with the jutting "chainsaw jaw" and the Khorne Skull Head. The Hound Head is also cool, though. As is the one resembling a Knight Titan. Ahh, choices...

Are the photos still showing up here? I can see them but my photobucket has gone really screwy!?

I really like the head between the 'weapon head' and 'corvus' head on the bottom row. Although I also like the skull one.

The weapon arm will be connecting to the torso at the shoulder there, Im still unsure if I will use the Defiler leg bits or come up with something else. Thoughts?

Biohazard wrote:Played with the hip mounting point.

I think this also depends on which head you choose. Warhound style head says more low slung. Skull or Corvus seems like it would be more upright.

Biohazard wrote:For the head Im looking at taking cues from this.

I personally like the idea of the Corvus. A titan is hard enough to deal with, but one that spews CC termies? Fuggetabowdit.

Biohazard wrote:And the inspiration for the saw.

So what's the plan now that you're not going with the saw?

Biohazard wrote:The weapon arm will be connecting to the torso at the shoulder there, Im still unsure if I will use the Defiler leg bits or come up with something else. Thoughts?

The defiler bits seem a bit spindley to me. This is a titan we're talking about, after all

Right after spending waaaayy too long trying to fix all the links I can I messed around a little with the Dreads second claw. I used 1000Heathens technique here and I actually prefer it to the Ven Dread fist in his left hand. I just need to find another Dread power fist and I can have them matching.

Rawson, I think I can make the saw work If i keep it quite close to the Epic one, the defiler legs would need a lot more armour agreed. The head I really like is the one to the left of the corvus one with the jutting lower jaw. Its still skull like (which will tie it with my dread) and I think it will work with the aesthetic of the 'Gore'hound. Im also thinking of cutting the front of the hull out a little more for the head to sit better (once I start building it that is)

Coming along nicely, mate. Two little nitpicks:

1.) I am trying hard no to start on realism or anything, because that way madness lies. However: What would that Autocannon "realistically" be shooting at from that angle? It looks like it could only have a go at targets the same size of the Titan or even bigger. And the weapon seems a little puny for that... So what I'm trying to say is: You might want to go for a more "underslung" look with the Autocannon, if that makes any sense.

2.) While I think that the chainsaw/spike hand works out nicely, the arm itself seems a little short. However, it may actually look somewhat different when you add the lower body.

Apart from that, stupendous Great start on the head too! It's really beginning to look like this was made from a Titan kit and not from a Stormraven, A Landraider, fourteen Defilers,...

I like the way the head is going. You may have to get the thing standing so you can work out arms, and gun placements.

Post by: Biohazard

Krautscientist, Im going for a similar look to the old Epic titans and even the newer FW ones. The upper arm is really short as the weapons are designed for breaching buildings or pinching Reaver's bums. To be honest Id forgotten the Reaper was on there when I took the pic. If I was to use them on it I would explain them away as AA emplacements
I will have to get it standing soon. Just to make sure the legs can hold it all. I dont have too much fear but have to check. Ill have to build up the hips to a stage where I can get them Gstuffed. I have ordered a few magnets for the torso/hip join, Ive never used magnets before so this will be interesting. Im working on the head a little more just now.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Rough head. The one Id really like to do would be very difficult without creating custom plasticard bits, so Im seeing what kind of structure I can knock up with existing parts. Its not quite the same style but I think I can work with it.

Once again, the true genius of it is the combination of parts in a way totally unintened by the creators I think the head could work, even though it's much different from the one you listed as your favourite. However, you need to do something to make it look suitably evil: At the moment, it's looking a bit like a sad robot puppy

Don't get me wrong though: You're definitely getting there!

P.S. Come to think about it, maybe use some Chaos dozer blades to add some teeth?

Damn, you beat me to it

Here's a little idea on the lower jaw, though. Let me start off by saying that it's probably no good whatsoever, since I realise my brain lacks the necessary working memory to pull off kitbashing on this scale

That said, I took a long, hard look at those goofy Gorilla claws that come with the Defiler kit and made this:

It's just tacked together quick and dirty, so it's all crooked and horrible, but you could use a part of the claws as a lower jaw, with the flamer in the mouth. Had to use a leftover Predator part, but maybe it gets the idea across. Here's another view:

I don't know if the scale works out, though. Oh, and those teeth are looking cool already!

Ha, you'll have to call him Spot or something

Looking at it, before you glue anything together, maybe you could try using the teeth/spikes you have now with a "shorter" face. For example, if you take the hatch that you used in this pic (it's between the Havoc Launchers):

and use it as some kind of "faceplate", then add the teeth over it. You could maybe end up with something closer to your original, more human idea for a head.
Do I make any sense? It's kinda hard for me to discuss engineering details in English

Anyway, not saying I dislike the dog head (well, except for that last picture), but it would probably be cool to try out several options before committing to one, right?

Oh and by the way, this thing is developing at an astonishing rate, atm

That piece is on the bottom of the current head but its cool nothing is glued. Im not to sure what youre meaning though. Do you have any pieces similar you can maybe show? Phew, like I said, I may be discoveringt the limits of my knowledge of English right now Still, let me try again. With added pictures. Here's what you could try:

1.) Take of the longer, canine snout.

2.) Use that Rhino (or is it from a Landraider) hatch:

or something similar and attach it below the eyes. It should look a little like a stylised mouth.

3.) Add the teeth/spikes over that to suggest...well teeth in the mouth. Here's a mockup of that too, although it doesn't look too awesome because I used the spikes without cutting anything away:

All in all, maybe it would look a bit like a bigger Berzerker helmet. Less canine, more human. Here's a mockup, although it's really rough around the edges:

I hope this clears things up a bit!

Wow, where to start?

1.) The mockup of the torso and legs together is looking fantastic already. This will be sooo awesome once it's finished!

2.) Don't worry about the head giving you...uh...a headache -- in my opinion, it can be a factor that can either make or break a conversion, so it's alright to give it some thought and try lots of stuff. To be honest, I personally wouldn't have gotten beyond building the feet, so cheer up!

3.) Really like the idea of including some pilots, perhaps with some kind of removable cockpit/facemask thing (like the mask on my current Dread, only much bigger and much more complicated )

4.) The boarding ramp idea is really cool!

5.) I think you're REALLY on to something with using those Defiler "Fingers" as some kind of jaw or tusks. Maybe you should try some different parts for the eyes: While the current ones read as eyes alright, they're a little small for my taste. Maybe take a look at the headlights that come with the Chaos vehicle sprue? Could be they look a little goofy though. Argh, I don't know...

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/05/08 16:45:15

Post by: KrautScientist

@progreen10: That Reaver faceplate is sooo cool!

@ Biohazard: I originally wanted to suggest using the Stonehorn face...thing for some kind of feral facemask, and then I discovered it in one of the pictures above, sitting on the weapon all cute and tiny and much too small...oh well

Here's another suggestion, though, it's completely different and maybe a little crazy and not very good: What about getting one of those huge skulls from one of the WFB terrain kits? You know, the ones they use as foundations for all kinds of buildings? There are also some in the Arcane Fulcrums kits, I guess. Or among the terrain pieces that come with Dreadfleet.

Anyway, take one of those skulls - they shouldn't be too hard to come by, everyone on the web seems to hate them with a passion - and use it as some kind of faceplate for the Titan. You could add all kinds of bitz to make it look more technical, like headlight bitz in the eye sockets to suggest the sensors for example, extra cabling, a flamethrower inside its mouth etc.

I have to admit that I've got no idea about whether the scale would work, though...

Anyway, like I said: That would be a totally different approach and maybe a little bit out of the left field...

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/05/08 16:53:26

Post by: Biohazard

Thanks folks. Seems to be mixed responses to the latest head if I was using it I would try and get a much more skull like look to it. That would mean cutting all the plates. I have an idea in my head but I only have a few armour plates to use so don't want to waste any.

Krautscientist, once again youre I'm my head lol. I've been looking at those skulls for a while but have no idea on the actual scale of them so don't know if they would work. The current head is similar in size to a dreadnought I think. Will check when I get home. Also the Chaos searchlights I couldn't get to work at all. The current ones are Tau I think? I've also used the Landraider searchlights on Fido.

Glad to be of help! It's tremendous fun to keep firing off all kinds of crazy ideas without actually bearing any responsibility for their execution Seriously though, I'm not trying to drive you crazy over this or anything, so just stop me if you're fed up with all the crazytalk

Like you say, the scale is probably the biggest challenge. At first glance, there's quite a number of differently sized skulls across the different kits.

The ones on the throne look reasonably good, but they could be too big (and to crudely made from a manufacturing standpoint):

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1850373a_99120299020_MagewrathThrone01_873x627.jpg

Then there are the skull panels that seem to appear across multiple kits:

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2080487a_99120299024_SkullvaneManse03_873x627.jpg

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2240154a_99120299025_DeathknellWatch01_873x627.jpg

While they're not complete skulls, they may be usable for some kind of facemask. You would probably have to add all kinds of machinery under and behind the skull bit to suggest the actual head, but it might look cool. I also imagine they're easier to convert (and get hold of) than the huge skulls in my first example.

Lastly, the one from the Temple of Skulls might work as well, although I believe the whole thing is basically a one piece kit. That would make it hard to convert one of the skulls for use with the Titan. Then again, the temple looks awesome, so the rest of the kit could be used for a terrain project, a display board or even as decoration on the Titan's base.

And of course there are always the skull-shaped islands from Dreadfleet. It probably comes down to figuring out which of these options is the right scale and easy enough to obtain/convert.

Update: Whoa, just found this sprue photo of the Magewrath Throne skulls:

That looks like it might actually work...

Thanks buddy. those do look like they would work rather well! I especially like the upper one in the top right. It depends what the back of them is like as to how much chopping would be involved. The base that throne sits on actually reminds me of the shoulders of a Warhound lol
Keep any suggestions for the head coming guys, I wouldn't have gotten this far without the feedback I've been getting on here and other forums. I appreciate it all.

If you could get those big skulls Kraut suggested to work, that would be awesome, but looks like it could be a pain

The way you've adjusted Deimos's power fist, really makes him look menacing!

Thanks guys, when I took these pics his head moved a little so I need to adjust that back.
Tipios the skulls could work but like you say they may be a complete pain. I need to get a dremel type thing as trying to cut through pieces like that by hand will be tedious.

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/05/09 11:28:36

Post by: tipios

Well if you gona do a lot of converting the dremel is a must, but go for a good one. I bought a £15 cheap one ages ago, it works fine, but has no variable speed, so can't do any delicate work with it.

Two things:

1.) The Magewrath Throne's box artwork has a wizard model on top of the Arcane fulcrum, so it works as a way of getting an idea of the size:

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1850378a_99120299020_MagewrathThroneXbox_873x627.jpg

Could be just the right size...or maybe just a bit too small. In any case, you're probably right in that it'll be quite a chore to pull off But from all the skulls, this seems to be the best bet.

2.) Deimos looks great! The sword really gives him the balance he needs (although you could have used a sword with a Khorne icon as its handle if you'd been more patient )
I already told you I'm not entirely sold on the choice of head, but somehow it works rather nicely. Good job! As a matter of fact, it gives me an idea. You're probably going to hate me, but...here goes:

You scraped off that stupid eye symbol from the respirator, right? What about GS'ing an aproxximation of the WE's legion badge (that gaping maw) on the facemask instead. You could also use some bitz (skeleton jaws), of course. That would be a very fitting piece of headwear for a World Eaters officer!

P.S. Oh, one more thing: I still think the use of that tilt plate was sheer genius on your part!

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/05/09 11:32:09

Post by: Biohazard

Lol! The sword will be changed to the new one. I am planning on removing the skull from the croth plate and adding a WE symbol there. I hadnt thought of adding anything to the face mask although now I do have an idea.

I like the sinister look of the single 'eye' It obviously needs a lot more detailing also I should add that the faceplates will be worked on a little more but I am going to persevere with it. Im not sure about adding bunny ears to it though. I doubt Ill go down that path.

Heres a few more pics hopefully they show the pose a bit better.

I am sorry Dave, I can't let you do that.

Seriously though, the overall shape and idea are great! The plates at the sides don't really add up in my opinion, or maybe I just don't see what you're seeing. But you're definitely on to something!

Even as a big fan of bunny ears, I probably wouldn't add any to the head: First of all, there's probably no suitable bit to use. And there's a pretty big chance that it'll end up looking goofy (although the head progreen10 posted is of course fantastic, as is the Titan it belongs to).

There are many, avoid cheap. Dremel and proxxon are the ones to go for. Proxxon seems to have better build quality, and less vibration and noise. Which is why I I have just ordered the proxxon 12/e, because it goes down to 3000rpm, and later I want to get the milling table that it fits to. It cost £70 from Rapid, which is the drill and power supply. I will tell you how good it is when I get it

If you're going for a shooty dread, then it should be Star Phantoms. The fluff for Star Phantoms suggests they leg long-range heavy-weapon devastators, so that would fit well.

Thanks guys Ive been away messing about and as I was cutting it from the sprue Id decided it would be Star Phantoms (sorry Krautscientist next month! ) and Yellowbeard youre right they prefer melta/plasma weaponry as well which could be fun. Im thinking of making it a kinda twin of the Chaos one. Ill use the CCW that I take off the Chaos one and may use the skull plate again but have it posed differently and obviously it will be covered in Aquilas and purity seals. The black/white looks good too.

Oh well, you can't win them all, I guess

Building a loyal Dread has one big advantage though: You're allowed to use all those fantastically detailed armour plates with all the names of the different campaigns, since it's a loyal Dread. It does even say Badab somewhere on there, right? When I had to cover up that detail when building my Chaos Dread, I died a little inside, since it looks so cool.

So there's a good side to your decision after all I'm sure the blood god will understand...

Krautscientist I will be building another Khorne dread whos has been coaxed from the 4th. And youre right there is a lot of cool detail on the Ven Dread.

Tipios, if youre asking if the skull plate fits between the shoulders it does but only in limited positions. I will be building the torso and neck up like the chaos one. Ill start carving out the marine torso in the morning.

Thanks for the shout out, mate!

tipios, I really didn't do anything to the torso of the Ven Dread: I only added the skull mask on top, and it fit perfectly. For a time, I had considered one of the armour plates that come with the kit (especially the one that looks like an armoured gorget), but in the end I discarded those because the Marine torso in the middle of the sarcophagus is just too awesome.

If you do want to combine one of the armour plates with a Defiler mask, though, you'll have to do a bit of cutting to make it work - or you'll have to build up some kind of neck, like Biohazard said.

Hope this helps!

Great looking dread, and I love those powerclaws!

My only CC is that it doesn't really look imperial. With the Skull helm and power claw it looks like a Chaos mirror image of the Chaos dread Have you thought about doing a bit of sculpting on the helmet? I think you could make it look like an oversized marine helmet quite easily...

In other news, when do we get to see the final version of the head for your titan?

If you cover up a bit more of the lower half of the face, so it's just showing the nose and eyes, I think it might look better. The skulls on their badge do look sinister like the mask Or even cut out the parts below the cheeks, and just leave the teeth.

Dread's coming along nicely, mate! The strange part is that I had just decided to use the epithet "The Undying" for my new Dread too. I mean it's quite fitting for a Dread, but that's almost too much of a coincidence.

Oops. There goes Elias. Lol.
I need to work on the position of the head on the imperial one and I'm also thinking of converting his legs to a similar pose to Kreuger. I quite like the idea of him stepping down from a step/ debri eyeing up his next victim and sparking his claw.

I've also decided the Imperial Dread shall be known as Valerius the Elder. Guess what I've been watching?

Dude, and I even double checked on the Spartacus-Wiki! There actually IS a character of that name, even though his role mainly seems to consists of dying in a spectacular fashion

Anyway, that's what I get for trying to be smart, I guess

I think that some of the skulls on the Temple of Skulls are seperate pieces, which could be nifty for your titan. Plus, the Temple of Skulls is awesome.

Agreed I do like the look of the Temple of Skulls. I have an idea for a display board for the WE that I may look at implementing in the future. As for the skull head it is still a possibility but I'm still looking at a couple of other options.

hey Bio, I love what you're doing in your thread. I've tried to duplicate some of the front mask swaps you've done on your berserkers, but due to "shaky" hands from some bad nerves, I haven't had much success.

Do you have any particular little tricks you use to do them? I really like the fact you have more than the same 4 face plates being repeated over and over lol.

Chaplain Cy Im really sorry man I didnt realise you had posted in here. I dont realy have any tips rerally apart from take your time and keep a file handy. My first attempts were not always successful and some of them were just terrible. But if you really take your time with it and file it down right you can get away with very little GS work.

Right guys, not much of an update more of an 'Im still alive' post. Long story short Ive been pretty ill lately but starting to get over it now and itching to get working on the WE again.

Here are a few pics of the Gorehound let me know what you think.

I think I may have squared it off a bit too much and obviously there is still loads of gap filling/detailing etc to be done. Im waiting on a Stormtalon cockpit coming my way from the US and that will hopefully be the base of the final head.

And an older picture that I wish was better quality as I love the pose of the Titan

Good to have you back, Biohazard!

I was looking at the above pic and had an idea (the worth of which will be determined by you )

What about:
Spoiler:

I think it gives a more predatory, fast feel than the other way. This theory is proven by the number of people running away with this version compared to the old one I realize that it would probably be a lot of work (at least more than my MSPaint time investment) but I thought I should at least pass it on. Let me know what you think!

Also, love the new name: "Gorehound"!

Keep up the great work!
Rawson

Hey Biohazard! I hope you're recovering well.

I' curious to see how you're going to work an the stormtalon cockpit

I agree with Rawson's suggestion. Your hull is fine but turning it this way would make the neck junction look better and -more important- stronger.

World Eaters Warband *Leviathan Siege Dreadnought conversion* @ 2012/06/15 08:04:33

Thanks for the well wishes and suggestion guys, I've looked at turning the hull round a few times during the build but I have to say I just can't get it to something I'm happy with. The neck joint on the existing build will be bulked up a lot as well once I settle on a head.

Ps Rawson, the little dudes running away just made my day Brilliant

@ rawson
on the picture i have to say your mock up looks pretty good, but i can also really see what biohazards issue is with that.

@ biohazard

im gonna make a scratch build warhound and im gonna ruin it for scenery

Dijnsk, I havent totally settled on a head yet. That has been causing me the biggest problems so far.

Thanks tipios obviously they need a lot more work to incorporate them into the Storm Raven more.

Hey, glad your getting better!!! good to know that you have beaten off nurgles influence
i love the Gorehound, it looks really good! more predatry than the FW titans look. have you decided on the weapons you'll give it? cause i think that would look ace with giant claws!!!

I was planning the buzzsaw on one arm and turbo laser or similar on the other. To be honest Im just thinking about the torso at the moment although you have given me an idea for an alternative TCCW.

One thing that could help would be a "cowl" made from plasticard or something, to add bulk and shield the neck.

Also, it NEEDS a giant clawed skeletal fist.
