Ooh, just found the "make your own angry space roman" page. Will most certainly make use of this if you ever do fully armoured arms.

Do you also have unpainted pics of the sculpts? It's hard to see what the sculpted detail is like as the paint makes them look a bit rough when blown up to large size.

I have bought some shoulder pads from Anvil Industries through eBay- very good product indeed!

The casting is clean and crisp, and the resin is a good "consistency" (if that's the right word...) Also, he threw in some free pads as samplers!

Overall, I was very impressed on all accounts.

Hey Guys, thanks for the feedback!! much appreciated.

I certainly plan to expand the range as quickly as possible. the goal is to release one new product or group of products every two weeks.

@Brook M, At the moment Im doing the roman/spartan/greek thing. The medieval/quest/babarian set is coming up at some point in the future, which will include fully armoured medieval arms.

@H.B.M.C, If you like that you might like the next release, Spartan warrior kit

@scipio, I dont currently have any but next time I do a photo session I will get unpainted pictures of all the parts and upload them to the product pages.

@ Padre, thanks! glad you like the pads

I browsed through products on offer last night and I must say I really like what’s
on offer. I especially like the custom steam lord page.

I was really tempted last night to order a 10 man squad of custom steam lords. What didn’t seal the deal for me was a lack of weapon options. As soon as more weapon options are released (including the fully armoured arms), I’ll order a 20 man squad.

I don't see the appeal I'm afraid. There are one or two nice pieces, but I find the overall sculpting quality quite lacking and hamhanded.

Anvil Industry - August Final days: Medieval Mech Loyalty Reward + Civilian Disaster Response! @ 2011/10/03 13:41:54

Post by: Anvils Hammer

Hey,

Thanks all for your feedback and comments.

@ketara, The quality of my sculpts is improving with every new release, If there is anything specific you noticed that put you off I'd welcome some more detailed feedback. Its detailed criticism that allows me to identify mistakes/problems I wouldnt other wise spot, in the past Ive chucked away entire production mold blocks and started from scratch based on customer comments. Its a vital way for me to improve my offering and constantly up the quality of parts I release.

@sgt.Roadkill.

Your fur cloaks are sitting on my desk right now.. not finnished by any means, but on the way!!!

@Candy man. Thanks! I plan on rapidly expanding the number of weapon options and parts options, as fast as I can sculpt and cast them!

To give you an idea, my next release is a spartan set which will include the aformentioned fur cloaks, round shields, and a "glaive" style weapon with optional Machine gun attachement.

The "medieval" set which will include medieval arms, legs, weapon options, a new backpack etc etc, is due at some point, hopefully before christmas.

------------------------------------

More generally, In response to customer comments so far about my pricing. I've decided to lower the price on the custom steam lords to make them more affordable.

At the moment Ive costed them with tiered quantity discounts.

I welcome feedback on this proposed "flat" price plan-

£2.90 per Steam Lord, not including base,
£3.40 per steam Lord, including your choice of Anvil Industry Scenic base.

Thanks!!

Joel Pitt

Could we get a side by side scale comparison to some other well know Sci Fi armored troopers of the GW persuasion? I think alot of your pads look pretty cool. Are they hollow so they fit on the shoulder with no modification? I was disappointed with my last Shouldguard purchase.

Cheers guys!!

@Fosner, Yes I will sort that out at some point, a scale comparison with some other popular sci-fi figures, you are not the first to ask! For now, a steam lord is approx 33-35mm high from bottom of foot to top of head, not including crest, so that should give you an idea

All my pads are hollow and fit over an arm no problem, Do you mean you have purchased pads from me previously and were dissapointed? if so please PM me the order details and I will sort out replacement product for you asap.

@insaniak, If you see anything specific you think needs working on please let me know, that way Im aware of any issues when I remake molds/design similar products. More generally, I am committed to continuously improving the quality of my parts.

@Johnstewart. No, I've withdrawn that product as I was no longer happy with the quality of the parts, a similar stud reinforced pad may be released at some point, probably a varient of my "medieval pauldron" product.

@commander Cain, I hope new product will be out soon! Im working as fast as I can. Im a one man operation and there are only so many hours in the day so bear with me!!

@Anvil Hammer
Thanks for your reply. Look forward to seeing the other stuff when it is released.

In regards to price, I dig the lower base price. Are there any plans to still offer discounts for higher quantities?

I regards to feedback on your sculpts (based on the pictures I’ve seen), I say the only thing that really needs work are the leg bits. They seem a little stubby and a little too bulky for the torso thus making them a tiny bit out of proportion with the rest of the model. I’d recommend making the future legs pieces a little less bulky.

Also can you provide the dimensions for your custom bases? How well would they match up against a 25mm GW base?

hey,

Thanks a lot for your feedback!

About the price, I wasnt really sure what to charge, based on online comments, a lot of people expect miniatures from smaller companies to be substantially cheaper than those from larger companies.

What I have done is sit down and work through all the numbers, caculating the wage I pay my caster, my exact per model material costs, time spent packing, as well as a reasonable "profit" to pay for the time spent making the masters/molds and allow for investment in future products.

The resulting number that comes out is my new pricing structure- £2.90 for a basic custom miniature, with the option to add a scenic base and other accessory parts at discounted rates.

This means I cannot offer any quantity discounts, the price is now "flat rate", as I am already charging the lowest price I can which makes it worth my while to continue producing new products.

It is my hope that customers will prefer this new, straightforward pricing structure. Unlike certain larger companies, I always intend to be fully open about my pricing and really listen to feedback, hence this early change.

Regarding the leg components. I actually made them thicker! The first parts I made looked ridiculously "spindly". As these miniatures are humans augmented with a lot of bionics, implants, metal graftings etc I felt it was appropriate to have the legs the way they are. I have learned a lot from making this leg set and the next leg set should be relatively better as a result!

The custom scenic bases supplied are my "top secret-soon to be unleashed on the wargaming world" base range which Ive been developing for a while. More info coming soon!

They are 25mm, 40mm and 60mm, They were not sculpted on GW bases, but they are within 0.5mm of the GW diameter.

Thanks again,

Joel Pitt

Thanks for your reply. Good to here some breakdown on pricing.

Regards to the legs, I like bulky legs too and I also reckon spindly legs would look out of place. The Ankle areas of the legs seem to be only the part that is out of place. I reckon if the ankle areas were a couple of millimetres thinner, it would make the piece a lot more complete.

hey Guys,

Here are some WIP photos of parts due to be released next week some time.

Barbarian cloaks

Spartan Shield (18mm across)

Warglaive (40mm long)

Glaive Gun

The Glaive gun is actually a separate component.
It can be mounted as shown on top of the glaive, on top of another weapon, on a miniatures wrist, or anywhere else you can think of!

The next project is a range of scenic bases.

Then I've got some heavy weapons that have been sitting unreleased on my desk for a while,

Then its on with the medieval/crusader stuff including armoured arms, new leg bits, new weapons, backpack etc etc.

Cheers,

AH

I got in those legs I ordered from you the other day. I like them. Unfortunately, they will not work with the idea I wanted them for though. They are a little thinner than GW Legs. I was putting the Iron Warrior torso on them, and the Iron Warrior torsos are a little bigger than normal torsos. Long story short, bigger torso, smaller legs, just did not look right. I will have to save them for another project.

Is there any more dynamic poses for the legs that are in the works?

Oh, the shoulders I got, the Medieval ones, are just awesome. Very clean crisp resin, no cutting needs, just a quick clean, little glue, and right on to the model.

For the gun glaives, A little detail on the blades would make them look less eh and bring them to awesome. Maybe a little more decorative pommel too?

Cheers for the feedback! Glad you like the pads.

Fosner1703 wrote:

Yes, a set of 4 "running" praetorian legs, and also a medieval style leg set- both static and "running"

The blades I choose to keep quite simple looking, "spartan" you could say :p Im not sure what I could add to them that would have universal appeal, and I want my bits to have as wide a target market as possible.. more sales=justification for more products!

I will be doing some highly ornate/decorative two handed weapons in the future - probably a blinged up version of all the weapons Ive made up to that point.

Cheers

Thanks for showing us the new stuff.

Are all the glaves going to be stand alone or are there going to ones sculpted with fists? It would be great if there were some fist variants for use with the Steam Lord miniatures directly. I know I will buy some if they came with fists.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback.

Kit, the blades are not "powered" otherwise I would have! I prefer my steam lords to kill their enemys by simply swinging a very heavy peice of metal into them.. several times if nessecary..

candy.man wrote:Thanks for showing us the new stuff.

The problem with the glaives for sale by several other small mini companys is precisely this.. how do you use a glaive without a fist.. its a converting nightmare, which is what gamers try to avoid by purchasing bits..

There are 5 different glaives, each with an armoured fist in a different possition/amgle.

The new parts should be released tommorow night if everything goes to plan..

How much for a set of 10? USD. Id like 10 of those guys to start, they look like a Sci Fi version of those 300 Spartan guys. I like that vibe, and the detail, not too little, not too much.

Are there full set kits available?

Those are really good looking sculpts. Amazing work there, chief.

A basic custom steam lord is £2.90, with all the additions shown on my spartan miniature, they come out at £4.20, or approx $72 for ten including postage to the US.

You can play around with all the options, changing parts, taking stuff away, adding accessories etc to create the exact miniature you want.

Evening All,

Some new WIP's of upcoming releases for you comments/feedback.

Ive recently started collaborating on a few things with Kit from Zinge Industries,

Firstly we have the CAD WIP for my Steam Lord Assault Rifle he's drawn up -

This will be available as a conversion part and also with attached arms to use with upcoming Steam Lord Miniatures.

I went for a very "modern 21st century" for the gun, with the addition of the tactical rails on the top and sides, it will also have attachements available such as a grenade launcher.

Any feedback on the design is welcome and I will pass it on to Kit.

Next up we have some of the masters for my soon-to-be-released "Urban Forge" base range (along with a few other sets). Lots of different types of plasticard and rubble!

Cabling, turbines and some debris supplied by Zinge Industries, reproduced under licence. Rest of the Design (C) Anvil Industry ltd.

I am releasing three base sets initially-

"Parched Desert"
"Urban Forge" (pictured)
"Granite Wastes"

I dont like the name "urban forge" better suggestions for an urban/industrial themed base set name please?

Next up are some heavy weapons, then a big Steam Lord set.

Cheers,

Anvils Hammer

same 28mm scale obviously but this weapon is based on the FN SCAR-H carbine.

@ Fosner-

Initially available attachments will be an M203 grenade launcher, a chain saw attachement, and a scope for the top rail. Im open to suggestions for other attachments.

Im also planning a automatic shotgun- basically a belt fed SPAS-12.

No!! Its resin with a metal filler, hence the added weight, which combined with the Texture-Grip allows the base its stability and ability to stick to terrain features.

    Hi Joel

The bases look great. I made a small purchase over the weekend to test out some of your products for a Pre Heresy project I have going (it’s a pretty big project that plans to make use of a lot of Anvil Industry bits). Your bases look like they’re going to save me a gak load of time. I especially like how you also have a basic plain sand base for us folk who prefer “less is more” when it comes to bases.

By the way, when are the armoured arms going to be released? *hint hint*

Any idea when that Steam Lord Assault Rifle is going to be available?

I am doing a major conversion of a squad of 10 models, 8 of which I will require these weapons for - 2 of which I will then convert to sniper-rifle variants - and 10 of the Forge Ruins 25mm bases. I am also wanting to do a mounted model conversion which will also require another assault rifle, and a forge ruins mounted model base. I want to order these soon so I can get started on the rest of the conversion process - I want to get the bases before I start converting the legs so that the figures will stand properly and not look awkward once based.

In the new year I also plan on converting all my Games Workshop Tau models , mainly just giving them a re-paint but also re-basing them onto the appropriate Granite wasteland bases, and will require at least 3 60mm bases for tanks, about 10 40mm bases for battlesuits, and will be re-basing all my troops.

    Hey,

awesome, glad you like the stuff! The rifle is due out before christmas hopefully. I am waiting for it to get sent to the 3D printers, as soon as it gets here it will be a few days to make the molds, updates will be in this thread of course.

    New products!-

These have been sitting on my desk half finnished for months.. last week I finnally got them completed and in the molds.

These are available now from the store- http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=59_78

The tripod is sold separatly and can equip most 28mm heavy weapons.

Ive also added a "modelling supplies" section to the store, which has "Rapid Mold" press moulding plastic, as well as several different tones of static grass. More modelling related stuff will be added as I source it. Anything in particular you want to see? suggest it!

now this stuff is out of the way Im getting on with a major new Steam Lord launch.

Well, I ordered some bases at about 10:30 UK time yesterday.

Blow me down if they didn't arrive this morning by quarter to 11! They look great and will do the job that I wanted them for quite easily, I should get around to starting them in the next few days, painting them up in preperation to recieve the models that will eventually adorn their surfaces.

I will start a couple of blogs as I get on with the work, although it will be at least another 3 weeks before I can get to the materials to finish them off as well as they deserve. The reason for the couple of blogs is that I got 10 bases of the 25m 'Forge Ruins' type, and 6 of the 'Granite Wasteland' type for 2 different projects.

All part of the service I get most stuff dispatched within 24 hours, so on occasions where people order in the morning and royal mail are up to scratch I get sub-24hour delivery times!

Looking forward to seeing the blogs

I received my test run of forge ruin bases today and I'm very pleased indeed. The detail, the weight, the style and the quality are all fantastic. They're also priced very well. I'll be ordering a big batch to base my entire army in the near future.

Any further news on those Widowmakers? I was really looking forward to getting my teeth into 10 of those before Christmas.

Will also need more bases next year, but those will have to wait until January for my wallet to recover sufficiently from MOT, Service, and Tax for my car. :(

How suited are those bases for using in combination with flying rods? i.e. can you drill a hole into them, or is the metal filler unsuited for that (without using special metal drilling drills) ?

My crisis suits tend to not stand up on sloped terrain well, but some of them are 'flying' and need the flyings rods.

    Hey,

@Conrad. Im also looking forward to getting them! they are at the printers at the moment, I am expecting them to be shipped on the 14th, and will hopefully get them before christmas,

rest assured I will be working on them as soon as I recieve them and making them available ASAP!

They will be availalbe by themselves, and also with armoured hands/arms as an integrated peice.

    @MoD.

    Good question.

    *goes to shed*

Yes! I tested a 40mm base wih my pillar drill, 3.5mm standard drill bit, and it came out great, if anything it drills slightly easier than regular resin. dont use a wood drill!

I also tried with a pin vice and it works.. but a lot of effort needed, a dremel would work great..

usual precaustions- gloves, eye protection, mask, do it outside if possible.

The 60mm bases are thinner toward the middle, so putting a flying stand in the middle of one of those might be problematic, however if you drill into a thicker terrain feature on the base, like a rock, it should work great.

Im currently working on re-releasing my Steam Lords, Im reworking the torsos and heads to improve them.

CHRISTMAS DISCOUNT- Enter code "XMAS" at checkout to recieve a 15% discount on your order. Valid untill the 24th.

I certainly hope there will be pleanty of new stuff!

Ive got some new casting equipment arriving tommorow which will vastly improve both the speed and quality of my casting process, which will allow me to get new products out almost as quick as I can sculpt them!!

Due for re-release in a few days time-

Praetorian and Spartan Torso, 6 different 28mm helmets, including two totally new ones, and some running praetorian steam lord legs.

The next release after that is the "Tech" steam lord kit along with the assault rifle, and some bionic arms

In mid January the "medieval" Steam Lord Kit is due.

Im hoping to get the Steam Lords range finnished by mid February, then Ill be working on "somthing completly different" in the build up to SALUTE 2012, which I'll be attending in April.

I have a manicly busy and exciting few months ahead!

Any chance of a scale shot of the first auto-cannon below?

I.e., would it be suitable for a dreadnought if not mounted on the stand (two of them together for "twin-linked", of course)?

    Cheers guys!

@RiTides, I dont have a scale shot, but if you look at the product page here-

    http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=110

you can see the autocannon is 46mm long, so if you stick a ruler next to your dreadnought you can get an idea. They are not as big as some of the auto cannons out there, but the barrel is pretty thick so it wouldnt look weedy!
I may at some point next year make a twin linked version suitable for mechs.

@identity. I try to keep the costs of all my parts down as low as possible, the bases are substantially more complex to manufacture, hence they are not the cheapest bases on the market! there is 15% discount at the moment with code "XMAS"

Cheers guys, stay tuned for some forth coming new product!

    No Problem.

Im hoping to do my own Mech Walker at some point next year, dont know if it will sell.. its just somthing Im personally interested in doing, so it might be a while!

Here is a WIP shot, as Ive not put any up in a while-

    Praetorian Steam Lord running legs.

I've based them off of still frames of elite runners, so the geometry is "realisistic" to an actual runner, pretty pleased with how they are shaping up, can hopefully get them finnished today.

I got a Vacuum pump yesterday and Ive been playing around with it making the molds for my new parts. The Steam Lord helmets when I re-release them will have a lot less flash on them as a result!

Cheers! Work is progressing nicely on the legs, though I spent most of today making new molds of Steam Lord heads!!

Kit, from Zinge Industries, has just sent me this photo of the 3D prints of my upcoming parts!

From what I can see, they look awesome, Im really excited to get these new parts in the molds next week!

    Components from left to right-

    Steam Lord "Fusion" backpack
    Widow Maker Assault rifle
    Scope Attachment
    Widow Maker Pistol
    "Rip Saw" attachment
    Grenade Launcher attachement

The next two components make up my upcoming "multi pose" bionic arm, which will allow you to customise your minis with fully posable bionics! (The bionic legs are coming up in the future)

And finally an axe head, an alternative Steam Lord Weapon.

They've been withdrawn from sale for a few weeks whiel I remastered all the parts to improve the quality/make a few changes, and re-molded with my new vacuum pump tech, which means these are my best parts yet!!

Some promising stuff coming through there.

I should point out though that the gigantic pictures aren't doing you any favours. There's no real need to show those heads 100 times bigger than actual size... it makes them look very rough, and shows off flaws in the surface and/or painting that would otherwise be negligible, which gives people an exaggerated negative view of the quality of your product.

But yes you are totally right, the enormous photos are deeply unflattering, Im going to be taking photos of all the raw resin parts at some point.

For the time being, you can see a lot of my parts just undercoated in this video blog-

Marneus is using a lot of my parts to assemble his Pre heresy Luna Wolves, Im looking forward to seeing the painted minis!

The Anvil Industry release schedule is well behind at the moment, as Im currently focusing on getting some new casting equipment designed, build and tested, its a lot of trial and error so realistically it will be mid february before I can focus on making new parts.

That said, I do have a few new bits and bobs, including the assault rifles, in the pipe line over the next few weeks.

here are some new photos of the raw resin parts so you can see exactly what they look like when they come out of the molds-

This guy has some new parts- the armoured arms which a few people have requested, and a new "Fusion" power plant-

Ill be releasing the armoured arms and backpack along with the updated Medieval torso in the next week or so.

I estimate my new casting equipment will be sorted by the end of the month, so I will be ramping back up to full scale production by mid february and have a lot of stuff to release!!

    Hey,

A quick update to show you all some new stuff Im working on.

    Circle from top left-

The resin copy of the Fusion plant.

The updated "Heavy Medieval Torso", and a small riveted strip, designed to cut into three armour plates, to attach around the miniatures waist. The extra armour plates will also be available separately.

A new ambidextrous weapon im calling the "Auto-Scythe", a chain saw and submachine gun arranged in a "gauntlet".

My new "Medieval" style Steam Lord legs. This set is 9 separate parts blue tacked together to check the scale, I will now be making a number of different poses for the production mold.

    And new Axes.

My new casting chamber is arriving tommorow so the next week or so will see plenty of manic experimentation with vacuum casting!

I have an enormous pile of stuff to make molds for, and will get it all done as soon as possible.

In the meantime if there is anything you particularly want ASAP, feel free to shout here!

I'm really impressed with your designs.

    Couple questions.
    1. Will you be making a 25mm version of the city ruin broken wire style base?
    2. Do you plan to produce your interpretation of any other races? I'd love to see your take on elves in space.

    Cheers guys!

@Commander Cain, I freely admit Ive got plenty to learn about sculpting, and plan to continuously improve the quality of my offering..

Ive got big plans for expanding the Steam Lord options available, Im hoping to "finish" the range in the next 3 months in preparation for attendance at Salute 2012, so stay tuned!

    @Rented Tritium.
    1. Do you mean a 25mm version of the 60mm "Wires" base? I didnt plan on doing so.. But I am remaking the molds for those bases in the next week so I could sneak a new one in..
The wire cable cover on the large base is 25mm wide by itself.. so so you mean the same concept but smaller scale? or something else? let me know and Ill make it for you!

    2. My miniatures are drawn entirely from historical sources with a "sci-fi" twist", and are original work.
Im finishing the Steam Lords, then moving on to regular human infantry models. After that I dont know.

At the moment all my time is focused on getting a "core" model range out and the company off the ground running..
In a year or so I hope to have time for "fun" projects which will be awesome to work on but not necessarily have mass market appeal.

    Joel

You’ve mentioned the medieval shields in the past and I was double checking that they were still in the works (as I wanted to buy some).

The only other that I was interested in (that has been mentioned in the past) was the officer weapons sprue (single sprue containing ornate versions of the sword and spear).

Lastly I think its good you’re aiming to complete the core Steamlord range sometime this year. As someone who is building an army using primarily “Steamlord bits”, I’ve had to delay a lot of my purchases (made a big order during Christmas but plan to make a follow up order when more stuff comes in).

Same style, not actually the exact same thing. You have a 60mm and a 40mm that look like they're in the same type of terrain, but there isn't a 25mm that fits the same aesthetic.

I know you're backing off bases for a while to catch up on steam lords, that's cool, but when you get back to bases, if you make a 25mm that matches the 60 and 40 wires/meta/factory looking base, I'll definitely be interested in getting an army worth of them.

hang on.. do you mean these?-

The "forge ruins" series contains two 60mm, 5 40mm, 3 cavalry and 10 25mm.. Im soon going to add the 120mm Oval base.. I thought you meant a smaller copy of the big base but if you mean a set of bases in that style they already exist!

This is looking really good. I saw your stuff on eBay a while back, followed the link to your website, etc., and mentally filed it away as a "maybe" depending on future projects. Great to see you working with Zinge -- he makes high quality kit too.

What I personally would love to see are some slightly smaller power armoured type minis, ideally still in Spartan style. I'd use them for power-armoured Inquisitors, power-armoured Warrior Henchmen, etc., just because ordinary humans (especially S3 T3 humans) should be a bit smaller than Space Marines.

they are "winging" their way to you as we speak.. *ahem*

@Rented Tritium, glad to be of assistance! Ill announce here when they are available again.

@Ian Sturrock, thanks! I saw Kit's (Zinge) stuff and thought.. I wonder if he could design a few bits and peices for me.. and he can.. its awesome because I have no CAD skill what so ever!

Smaller armoured minis is a possibility, after the Steam Lords, Im going to do a whole range of normal human sized infantry in various styles, all fully modular, and the range will definatly have some powered/exo armour suits in there..

Just to reiterate this post, I had seen these before, and had dismissed them as poor quality casts (not that I had much use for them at the time)

A new army means I'm on the look out for new bits, and I decided to take a punt as a few helmets is not a fortune if they're not right. Very glad I did, they arrived this morning (quick delivery) and they really look the part, if anyone has looked at these but been put off by the pics, I urge you give them a try, they are immeasurably better IRL, and not expensive either!

Thank you very much!! I hope you will post some photos at some point

As a result of your pricing feedback, I will be increasing my prices by an arbitrary 20% every year! (the joke would be funnier were it not the actual policy of everyones favorite larger company)

Apologies to everyone who's waiting for assault rifles, medieval parts, gaming bases, etc etc..

I am trying my hardest to get new parts completed, and the new production molds done, as quickly as possible, but as its just me and I only have so many hours in the day, I have a pretty serious "new releases" back log.

    Thanks for your patience!

Im differently gonna buy some of your stuff! It all looks really great. Great detail and nice actual bits
And also the price... Insane! I can really see you sell alot of this stuff. If not then people are stupid

To give any kind of critisim is that the paint jobs on the minis simply dont do the stuff justice. If they were painted as good as GWs(for example) they would look even better.

In regards to your human miniatures, personally I think you should also base them off historical designs with a SciFi twist. It would be unique IMO.

I personally recommend avoid GW’s Imperial Guard type designs (e.g. Cadians, Voystran etc) as they’ve been done to death by other third party companies.

Point to me where I can get some decent sci fi desert infantry!

Also the top line is ironic, seeing thats exactly how GW does it (they literally have art of Space Gladiators at one time)

Thanks for all the comments and feedback!

I will have some new WIP photos up later tonight I hope.

@Clausel, Yeah, I consistently get people saying the paint jobs are dreadfull.. so Ive decided from now on Im going to sell the parts with "naked resin" photos.

At some point I hope to paint up a few squads of these guys when I get a minute spare!

    @Candy.man,

Im going to do A LOT of different stuff, I love guardsmen, so Im hoping to do the full range, at least 10 different "regiments" like GW metals back in the day!

@Ruminator. yes, they just might work. The dimensions are on the website so hold a ruler up to what ever miniature you are contemplating attaching the launcher to!

@Kenshin620, coming up! not in the first "wave" but certainly on the list!

    Cheers guys,

    Thanks guys!

@Clausel, yes Ive certainly considered it and even got a few quotes.. its a possibility for the future but at the moment I cant really justify the £50+ per model im looking at for a properly "pro" miniatures.

Id like to teach myself to paint like a pro, but realistically im better off focusing on building the company, so when cash flow is better Ill certainly be commissioning some pro painted stuff!

    NEW WIPS-

as promised, Ive been busy over the last few days and here is what Ive come up with-

Apologies for the poor photo quality, better pics coming soon!

    Top Row-

The re-mastered "large roman pad", "Renaissance" style Torso.

The Spartan helmet and Spartan Crest as ONE PART. Ive sold literally hundreds of "spartan head plus spartan crest" sets, so this will save people a lot of time and hassel!

    Second row-

Widow maker Assault Rifle and Shotgun - approx 25mm including the stock, which can be removed easily to make a sub-machine gun variant.

3D designed/printed, Im so pleased with these parts, the detail is so crisp!

And the new medieval "buckler" shield.

And coming up over the next week or two-

Scope, Chainsaw and Grenade launcher for the rifle
    Arms to hold the guns
    Widow Maker pistol
Multi-bionic arms in a range of sizes

Plus the medieval legs and armoured arms!

I know a few people are waiting on the rifles, so im putting some of these bits up for pre-order for dispatch next week as soon as the molds are done.

    Cheers!

    Joel

I'd do a bit for bit in trade promotion.

Submit a photo of your painting of the bit by Day X. One (or more) photos will be selected for feature on the webpage, and that person will receive any 1 bit of equal or lesser value from the currently available range.

Stagger your contest right and a master painter could get the entire line for free

A master painter could have an entire army of Steam Lords for painting up a small squad for me!

In fact- offer now open to any golden daemon standard painters out there- paint an Anvil Industry miniature to heavy metal standard or better, get a squad of 10 shipped to you for free!

I already have and will be re-releasing flat bases with just sand texture, or do you mean plain flat like glass?

The "Parched Desert" bases were designed to be used as ice world with the right paint job, I dont have any plans to release an ice set at the moment, but may do in future.

The Rifle, Shotgun and Medieval Powerpack are now for sale under "NEW / PRE ORDER" in the Miniatures tab of the website. Dispatching as soon as the molds are completed. If there is anything else people want to pre order, post here and Ill sort it out.

    Pictures Help:

Here's the sort of things I HOPE to be doing:

He was using light panel acrylic for the last oneof those, and that would likely work to modify a normal base, but out of sheer desperation I based a guy on a quarter last week and realized I want a nice base with weight to it, that won't slide around on me. Then I found your bases. More than a quarter, but I'm betting they're worth it.

@Bounty, As much as I like to say Ill try and fit stuff in, I have so much stuff to work on at the moment that if I did do a crystal base range like that, it wouldnt be any time in the next 4 months or so! Also, I wouldnt be making bases with crystals that large, as the molds would have to be enormous and its just not cost effective.

The one thing I can suggest at the moment is using my Parched desert bases, and sticking on your own crystals made from cut up sprue/foam for the larger ones.

I might have a think about making some "crystal" resin sprue product to glue on to bases.. but i can offer no guarantee.

@Commander Cain, Thanks! Ive just worked out this morning I have 42 molds to make before my back log of unreleased stuff is cleared!

The "M203" style grenade launcher which attached to the bottom of the Widow Maker rifle, is sitting on my desk, other guns will follow in the future..

    Thanks,

Widowmaker rifles, scopes, underslung chainswords, and Widowmaker pistols are what I am after, I need at least 10 of each. When they are available, I'll probably get some more bases too, going to re-base my Tau army on the grass/mud types and my Necrons on dessert bases.

Unfortunately won't have the money to do it all at once, so will have to put up with a squad at a time.

@Conrad Turner, the rifles are available now, i will get the accessories and pistols done next week. Not for general release but I will be able to run off 10 of each for you from the master molds. Ill send you a PM when they are done.

    GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT-

Anvil Gaming Bases are now available again!

Ive successfully tested a new mold design in my new vacuum pouring chamber, the result is that the bases now come out perfect with virtually no flash to remove, just one small Sprue on the underside to clip off.

The 25mm gaming bases are listed on the store now, and the other sizes, as well as a new range "City Rubble" will follow on tommorow and next week.

While I make new molds and build up a stock pile, there will possibly be a delay of a few days in shipping orders, but Ill obviously get them out as quick as I can!

    Cheers!

    New Releases!! Finally..

These parts are available now, but for the next week dispatch will possibly take up to 3/4 days as production capacity is very limited at the moment. Thanks for your patience!

Two new Medieval Torsos, and the entire "Widow Maker" weapons Family.

A couple of configurations for the rifle.. the gun is 25mm, if you remove the stock its 20mm, a Space Marine bolter is a bit stockier and 17mm long, I will post a scale comparison at some point. Obviously this is just to give an idea of scale using a common weapon, im not suggesting you use this weapon with any brand of miniature in particular.

These images shows the new Fusion backpack, the armoured medieval style Steam Lord Arms, and the new Battle Axe, as well as the new torsos combined with the Extra Armour hip plates.

All these parts are now available from the website! www.anvilindustry.co.uk

I have a whole bunch more stuff coming up in the next couple of weeks, stay tuned!

The backpack is nicely detailed. but looks upside-down.

Honestly though, if you can get that sort of detailing, I would seriously recommend going back and having another look at the torso and leg parts. They look soft compared to the weapons and backpacks, and the overly-wide proportions aren't doing them any favours. No idea how they stack up one-to-one, but they look wider than GW's aready-ridiculously-broad Space Marines.

Your accessories are looking great, though.

Anvil Industry - August Final days: Medieval Mech Loyalty Reward + Civilian Disaster Response! @ 2012/02/11 14:55:21

    Post by: Anvils Hammer

    Thanks

The proportions are the same as Space Marine components, no wider. My shoulder pads and heads come out a tad smaller (except the spartan pad which is wider due to the different shape), and the Steam Lord head is positioned on top of the torso with neck room, rather than in between the shoulders on a Space Marine. I also prefer to sculpt the hips/thighs more realistically.

The new weapons and backpack are 3D printed, wheras the legs/torsos are hand sculpted, hence the finer level of detail possible with the printed parts. I will be going over the leg parts to sharpen them up abit before I remake the molds shortly. 3D printing is awesome for mechanical shapes but not so good for organic stuff.

    Cheers,

    Joel

basically, after I made the shield master mold, I noticed that the shield was slightly unsymmetrical, hardly enough to notice, but enough for me to write the mold off and alter the master part.

Ive found myself going back and "redoing" a lot of old parts recently as my casting/sculpting improves, so no point in releasing the shield with a slight imperfection.

It will be available by the end of the week.

Mr Anvil Man, first to the arse kissing. I love your stuff, it's amazing. The future Spartan helmet makes me happy inside. But it's nooby question time. Can the new head and crest spartan helmets be used on GW SM kits? I know you can't specifically say on your website but if they fit they'd be perfect for Sternguard vets.

He can't really answer on here either, but that bit of context should be vague enough for them, and specific enough for you. Remember also that for play in 'official' settings you need your models to be mostly GW stuff. A small change like a weapon or head swap will PROBABLY be ok, but fielding an entire squad of Steam Lords would be a non-starter.., in OFFICIAL play.

    hey, Thanks JeneralJoe,

The Steam Lords are a stand alone original miniatures range, taking their styling cues from a range of historic cultures- currently Rome, Sparta and Medieval Europe.

They are 28mm "heroic" scale, which is the same scale used by GW for the bulk of their miniatures. When used as conversion parts, Anvil Industry components are suitable for use with a wide range of miniatures from many different manufacturers, the specific use choosen by my customers is up to them and I have no control over it.

For a one example of how a customer has choosen to use my parts, check out this awesome Youtube video-

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_RZkGPUe3A&feature=plcp&context=C3ef8912UDOEgsToPDskLLEEizYD-PISpiukcYqe7k

Bounty is right thought, technically GW do not allow the use of ANY non GW components in their stores or at official events, you would probably get away with a head swap, but turning up to a GW event with Anvil Industry Minis will get you shown the door pretty quick.

You will all be pleased to know that should you guys purchase enough of my parts to turn me into a global mega-corporation, I will happily allow the use of any and all GW parts at my official tournaments :p

Well, that's put in my order for 10 Widowmaker pistols and rifles with scope and underslung chainsword attachment Maybe now I can get on with my 10 man "Gears of Warhammer 40K" squad!

Just need to get on over to Zinge and order some magazines. I like the circular ones that are offered, but they seem to be the centralised ones which I am concerned will mean that the weapons won't fit with certain arm/torso combinations. I hope that you will look into stoking the entire rance of Zinge magazines in the future, as I believe that the offset drum magazines will be an easier fit onto the models.

    order recieved, thanks!!

The drum mag I offer is the offset one, I need to make that clear in the listing. I need to talk to Kit about stocking the rest of his mags.

I will include 10 mags with your order, send Kit (Zinge) the money via Paypal, saves double postage!

Those Luna Wolves are awesome -- they really give a great idea of how your work looks when combined with parts made by "other manufacturers".

Still very much looking forward to seeing some Guardsman-sized power armour from you, but I may well pick up some Marine-sized PA parts once the new Chaos book is out.

GW gives my poor anal-retentive head massive throbbing migraines. They sell kits, and they have other sub-companies that sell kits. They don't support the kits thier sub-companies supply. They encourage you to not use just kits. You can't use non-GW parts when making these things though. They require everything to be WYSIWYG. Including the things they encourage you build yourself. They don't sell everything you can take. You can't use non-GW parts when making these things though.

And I get the sinking suspicion that the reason they only allow official GW parts at GW events is because they're planning on argueing that they legally own everything that comes through the door, since it's thier IP and derivative works on thier IP, and using someone else's IP rather buggers thier legal grounds on this one.

Thanks for the expedient reply Mr Anvil. I don't really mind the being shown the door at GW because these Sternguard will be for my own pleasure when playing with friends. Definitely worth a buy though.

    Cheers guys!

@IanSturrock, they are on their way, Im preping for Salute in April at the moment, finnished off the current batch of Steam Lord releases and some new bases and hopefully somthing special to launch at the show.

From May onward Ill be starting to work on the Modular Guardsman range, the ideas have been floating around my head for years!

@Bounty, yep, it confuses the hell out of me as well..
"Hi Ive got these Thunderwolves I bought.."
"Sorry you cant use those here"
    "what can I use"
"erm.. 5 Canis Wolfborns? (Eyes light up with $$$)

Im actually already very happy to have others sculpt parts for the range, the only requirement is that parts have to fit the theme, and that the sculptor has to be as good or better than I am.. Buckets of free parts are on offer of course.. no ones taken me up on it yet!

@Asherian, thanks for your order, I posted it yesterday, normally takes about a week to the states. If you get a chance, read the "working with resin" guide on my website, Forgeworld also have an excellent guide here-

    http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/R/resintips.pdf

Basically you will be impressed by the detail/lack of mold lines compared to plastic, but the material does require more cleaning/prepping. The main thing to note is that resin is more brittle and will tend to snap, where plastic wil bend.
If you need any particular/additional advice feel free to email me!
Im afraid I cant actually see the helmet details in your photo, have you got a larger copy?

Asherian, Thats an awesome image! Id love to do a helmet exactly like that for you but no time at all in the next few months! Im not sure how you could alter the Spartan one.. I had a "gladiator" helmet at one point I think you would have loved but I never released it as I wasnt happy with the quality, Im going to back to it in the future, not that thats much help at the moment! my apologies!

    General news

The Praetorian Steam Lord legs have been remastered and remolded and are now better than ever.
The Medieval shields will be put up for pre order over the weekend and will be ready to dispatch by the end of next week.
The Medieval Legs I previewed a while back are shaping up nicely and will be released along with the shield, hopefully with the rifle arms as well!

Here is a preview sketch I cant resist posting. The first complete sketch of my Steam Lord Exo-Armour Mech. Exacty what it says on the Tin, a massive mech with different weapon options and a Steam Lord piloting it. I will be releasing a basic version, as well as several sets of upgrade armour to make it match the regular Steam Lord Infantry. For example on the sketch, Ive drawn it with massive Mech sized versions of my popular "spartan" shoulder pad.

    Cheers!

Ooh, me like! The general design looks sound and fits in well with the PA guys. I can imagine a fully enclosed version would also look pretty cool.

I am not sure if this has been mentioned before, but do you have any plans to make a bulkier version of the current armour?

hey, Cheers! Yes I will be doing a fully enclosed version or two (lots of modular armour sections for this kit planned) and also a version piloted by a standard human helmsman.

Yes I am planning bulkier "exo" versions of the Steam Lords, same basic modular concept. No idea when Ill be working on them though.

I like the look of the walker. I like the idea that it’s going to be a mech sized version of a steamlord, complete with mech sized steamlord shoulderpads. For added affect, I reckon you should upsize some of the steamlord weaponry for the walker as well (e.g. mech sized gun-halberd).

What size will the walker be? Is it going to be Dreadnaught sized or is it going to be Dreadknight sized?

Also, since the new stuff hasn’t gone up for pre-order yet, can you post some pics of the new legs?

Anvil Industry - August Final days: Medieval Mech Loyalty Reward + Civilian Disaster Response! @ 2012/02/20 14:50:43

    Post by: Anvils Hammer

    @Candy.man,

Cheers, Yeah I want it to fit in, so Ill be doing a basic exo skeleton which can be used "as it", then when I have the time, creating sets of armour plates in a few styles to match the Steam Lord Miniatures.

The walker will be approximately 3 inches tall, so a similar scale to a GW dreadnaught model.

I will be upsizing the shields, swords, axes as well as a few new Melee weapons, and plan a full range of ranged weapons as well, all of which will be ambi-dexterous to allow for pleanty of combinations.

I dont have a very recent photo of the medieval legs, but here is an older WIP I posted earlier in the thread-

There will be 5 different poses. Hopefully finnishing them off this week.

    Cheers,

    Joel

    Post by: Fosner1703

Joel, will you be making the axe with the hand lower down on the handle? I do like having it like up, it lets you do a couple of more dynamic poses, but if they were actually swinging it, their hand would be further down on the handle, to get more benefit from the weight of the axe head, compared to a sword.

Anvil Industry - August Final days: Medieval Mech Loyalty Reward + Civilian Disaster Response! @ 2012/02/20 17:49:18

    Post by: Anvils Hammer

Fosner, you are totally right, if they were swinging the axe it would tend to be further down.

The reasons I didnt do it like that were two fold, partly because i reused the handles from the warglaives to save time, and secondly because resin is more brittle than plastic, and if you had a model swinging the aze round by the end of the handle, it would be more likely to break.

You could do a conversion by chopping the axe into three peices, carefully sanding the ends flat and glueing it back with the hand at the bottom. With a good quality superglue it would last just as well as the solid component.

Ill be doing some "ornate" versions of the weapons at some point, which will come with separate hands which glue round, so those kits will allow for full posing.

    Cheers!

    Joel

I cant say for sure, could be six months before I get round to it! when I do they will not be the same pad, Ill be adding studs to my medieval pad, or making a new design.

    @Rented Tritium

Cheers! its the parts, the weapons are 3D printed, which allows for perfect symetry, hard edges etc, ideal for anything mechanical. My sculpting and master part QC is also somthing Ive been working hard to improve, and will continue to do so!

@Asherian Command, Dont leave your dude headless waiting on a helmet I may or may not get round to this year.. Im shockingly unreliable when it comes to sticking to a shedule :p

I am pleased to announce some new products are available-

Medieval style legs, as previewed a few weeks ago-

There are 5 different poses, including two with raised feet, resin rocks are on the sprue, or you ask your most frequent opponent for a spare head to step on!

Some new heads for my Steam Lords, sculpted by Robert Starling-

Five different sculpts with a variety of facial expressions, you can leave them bald, or paint on stubble/short hair.

I will be releasing several varients of these basic heads over the next month or two. A "veteran" version with scars and bionic implants, a "cult" version with hoods, and a set with hair! anything else you guys can think of that might be popular?

Here are the new components assembled, just add arms and you are good to go!

Im currently working on the arms to hold my assault rifles, at which point Ill be giving these guys some well deserved fire power!

    Cheers guys!

@Majorwes, Yep a partially mechical set is definatly coming up.

@Swordwind, Larger versions of the legs (I estimate about 4mm taller) are a possibility at some point, especially given how well the new medieval legs are selling, but I want to complete the "normal" Steam Lord range first.

At the moment Im still trying to work through the backlog of unreleased components and older stuff that needs new molds made.

Here are some Honour Guard that I have been slowly working on using Anvil, Forgeworld, and GW bits (wanted them to be tournament legal).

I really like the Champion... I posed him like the GW one, but used an Anvil head, torso, legs, cape, lion cloth, and shoulder pads (he's got the fewest GW pieces of the lot).

The Anvil pieces really make the unit stand out, and while my painting is a little subpar and photography is worse, you can really see the potential for a more GreccoRoman theme with Anvil parts

Below is the rest of the squad, I have a zoomed in pic of the squad's ancient just because I really really like how the Anvil and Forgeworld parts came together on him

Hi, thanks for bringing this to my attention, the website is working ok for me here, so hopefully it was just a temporary issue.

The Rapid mold is exactly the same product in fact, but much more affordable!

I currently sell all of my products on my main website, and also on the "Anvil Industry" ebay store. Shipping to the US is no problem from either. Is there a particular reason you would prefer to product be listed on amazon? Its certainly somthing I will look in to!

    Thanks,

    Joel

Understood. Websight problems are the bane of small businesses.

I find Amazon faster than ebay, and it's data aggregation program is 5 star. It's actually too good of a data aggregation program and will recommend sculpting tools, green stuff, 2 part putty resin, and molding materials. The main thing I could say about the Amazon versus Ebay debate is it's like comparing iphones versus droids. A large chunk of people just prefer one over the other.

Hi Anvil got my order the widow makers, attachments, shotguns and my over all favourite the back packs just brilliant

Want to use some of these weapons on my penal guard (none standard issue IG equipment ) and the back packs for my steam punk inspired guard (which I think will be perfect)

Great job nice stuff however I don't do marines, but if you produce stuff I acn use with guard I am sure I will be back for more

As for the sci-fi police project it was going well, but I wanted to convert a few pieces and the vehicle I was working on for the scene kept going wrong so it is on a back burner (still) However of late I have revisited several very old projects and slowly finishing things, so fingers crossed I will be able to show you some pics in the near future

@lone dirty dog, cheers! Nice to connect a person to a username I have a thousand unfinnished projects lying around unloved so know how you feel!!

Now its been a while since I released anything new, but Im pretty proud of this lot-

Ive totally revamped my Bare Arms range to improve the quality and also add extra arms and pistol hands to the sprues.

I am also proud to unleash my "Multi Pose Bionics" product. These new Bionic arms are fully poseable in two parts and can be used as either left or right arms, they also come in three different sizes, allowing almost any miniature to be upgraded with bionics in virtually any pose. The Steam Lord scale Bionic sprue (medium) comes complete with some extra bionic hand options.

Steam Lord Extermintor with full Bionics, toting a pistol and shotgun-

These new Bionics can be purchased from here-

    http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=136

Ive also recently revamped the website, hope you guys like it, (no massive changes but a lot cleaner and easier to navigate)

Im spending time with family over the weekend but as of next Monday Ill be working hard on the next lot- Rifle arms, and a full medieval arm range, then hopefully some more rifles at some point.

New releases have been slow lately as Ive been really busy shipping out orders, and I know a lot of it comes from Dakka, so thanks a lot for all your support!

    Cheers,

    Joel

You've got another customer when I revamp my Salamanders.

There's some stuff in there I've been looking for for a long time, in particular axes held near the head rather than the bottom of the haft and those ash waste bases are just perfect. Also those chain bayonets are a lot better looking than the tiny Forgeworld ones.

I saw your ad here, used some of the spartan chests and helmets on a minotaurs chapter and they were very effective. It even looked better than the forgeworld chests I used in this case, and better than the scibor stuff I will probably be getting more in the future! And those posable bionic arms are pure genius. If you made bionic legs I'm sure they would be a hit as well... able to be used on any chapter, and very helpful for conversion stuff.

Those bionic arms are really nice, could even be used as bionic legs (with a little chopping to fit marine-style figures)

Thank you very much guys! Favorable comparisons to Forgeworld do wonders for my motivation

Bionic legs are certainly on the to-do list at some point, The arm components are not really suitable without some pretty serious conversion work.

@Cyvash, the running legs, and hopefully the medieval version as well, are due for release before Salute, so hopefully less than a month!

Ill get back to work, lots to do!!

    Cheers,

    Joel

Yeah I could use the arms for legs, but defeats the purpose as it's just as much work as building them from scratch.... you'd have to make them longer.

insta-buy on the bionics, looks like they'll work ok at 54mm without too much hassle (last set of 54mm bionics I bought were commissioned - nice, but expensive!)

Are the medium ones the only ones with hands? that's disappointing

Anvil Industry - August Final days: Medieval Mech Loyalty Reward + Civilian Disaster Response! @ 2012/03/18 21:04:02

    Post by: Anvils Hammer

@Meade, yep, and using the larger bionic as a leg would make it way too thick, the proportions need to be different.

Im hoping to get a bionic leg designed along the same lines as the arm but with a separate hip socket and foot, plus probably a separate piston on the back. It would be fully poseable and designed to replace one half of a regular leg set, by sawing one leg off!

@Charax, cheers, thats not somthing Id considered actually, I suppose youd be using the larger bionic? Ill look at getting a "true" 54mm scale bionic printed. In the meanwhile if you do use any on a larger scale project please post some photos up in this thread

The medium sprue comes with a few extra hands because I've made some for the new steam lord arms so easy to convert. Ill be hoping to add more hand options for the various scales in future.

    Cheers,

    Joel

I found your stuff fairly ugly when you first started. Now I found it merely a bit clunky and rough instead.

I'm not ragging on you here, you've improved in terms of sculpting skill a considerable amount since you set out. What I genuinely like about you as a sculptor/company, is that you keep going back, and reworking older bits here and there with your improved skill. It shows a dedication to not wanting to be judged by the more sub-standard pieces, overall improvement, and wanting to provide a higher class of product. You're getting close to what I would consider passable and that's the stage at which I would begin to purchase if you had something that particularly suited my needs.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, and shall anticipate excellent things several months down the line. Good luck with your endeavours.

    Hey guys,

Thanks a lot! Glad people are liking the product, Im trying to get new stuff out the door along side casting orders and preparing for Salute 2012, which is a scary 4 weeks away now..

@Lubokia, Thanks for letting me know, Im aware of this issue as it seems to be affecting quite a few customers in the US, Im currently trying to figure out the problem and have been in contact with my web host about it. Does the website work somtimes?

@Ketara, thanks, I think.. I know when I started my sculpting skill was not up the standard required, hence why as you say, all my initial products have been withdrawn or updated! I got, and still get, pleanty of criticism of the product range, but just plow through it and use it to continuously drive improvements, as I want to make a living doing my hobby, and Im getting there slowly but surely!

The improvements over the last few months have been down to a few factors including better casting equipment, better designed molds, more attention to detail and the introduction of 3D desing and printing for parts of the product range, I intend to continue my focus on quality and rapidly expand the product range over the next year or two, so I look forward to someday counting you as a customer

Back to the desk for now.. new molds will not make themselves!!

    Joel

    Thanks!

My friend who helps out with photography was over today and we've finally figured out a set up to get practically perfect photos, so Ill be updated every single product image over the next month or so.

I've uploaded a few new options on the Guns page, including all the different Ammo Mag options, available in sets of 10.

    Here is the Curved/Sickle mag-

Shown in use on a Widow Maker Carbine with Suppressor, also available separately. The suppressor is designed to fit my Rifles, but will fit other similar 28mm barrels with a bit of sanding.

Here is my favorite photo of the new batch-

Exorcist Rifle with Box Mag, Short Grenade Launcher and Scope.

The new heretic Pistol Sprue - Including separate ammunition feeds (to get a better quality cast)

All these new bits are available here-

    http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=60_87

Ive not had a chance to make a "scale" photo yet, in the meantime, the Rifles are approx 20.5mm long with the stock removed, the Carbine versions are approx 16.5mm with the stock removed. The guns are designed to be completely compatible with the worlds most popular brand of Plastic Sci-fi Armoured Miniature.

Preparations for Salute 2012 are well underway, lots of stock to cast up and quite a few new products to make in time for release at the show. Ill try and get some preview photos up soon.

    Cheers,

    Joel

Yeah, I saw the new Maxmini nuclear guns, but figured that if Anvil made something similar, it'd be cheaper (and I'd quite like to buy some of their not-bolters too, and thus keep postage costs down).

(Edit: Also, really hoping for some not-Storm Bolters from Anvil too...)

    Thanks very much guys!

Ive seen, and really like, the new Maxmini gun, so to be honest its not somthing Id considered making for the moment as there are other versions out there already. Ill play around with a few special/energy weapon designs and see if I can come up with something decent and sufficiently original.

Doubling up the rifles to make a double barrelled version wouldactually be really easy.. and they could use the same mags as the normal rifles.

Im thinking two versions, based on the Widow maker and Heretic Carbine rifles, possibly slightly shortened though to make them more one handed. Ill have a play around with the parts when I get a chance, tonights job is mold making!!

    Thank you very much!

Ive been so busy recently with prepping for Salute that new releases have been thin on the ground, but from May onward Im hoping to kick things up a gear and try and work through the back log of stuff I want to release.

I just have to share this with you guys-

I sent Kit (of Zinge Industries fame) a pile of my product to play with and hes come up with this awesome Steam Lord hefting one of his miniguns with flexible ammo feed. Hope you guys like it, I cant wait to see this mini painted!

    Cheers,

Ultra happy with all the stuff I ordered. Product fits perfectly with other kits and the casts themselves are very good.

    Just another public endorsement.

    Thanks!

Im working on arm sets for the Steam Lords, but at some point will be working on normal human scale rifle arms to go with them, at the moment conversion is a pain because cadian lasguns have the hand attached to the rifle.

The Rifles are the same lenght as a lasgun but a fair bit chunkier, I know a fair few people have purchased them for Guard/Traitor Guard so its definately doable, at some point Im going ot create smaller versions of some of the weapons which will be a slightly more realistically proportioned for regular 28mm.

Hope this might help give you an idea of scale, there are two IG guns the rest are Anvils around them

Thickness wise they are about the same size, so with a little jiggle should fit nicely indeed

This time in a week Ill be rushing around packing up boxes and doing last minute casting and preparation work! Very excited!

I ordered a bunch of Heretic pistols to kit out a couple of my counts as BA chapter assault squads and characters. Their fluff has them dedicated to hunting down their Chaos counterparts and the pistols have a heftier, meatier look to them than regular bolt pistols; the exposed rounds look as I imagine Vengeance rounds to, so it all fits with what I wanted them for. They are marginally smaller than bolt pistols but near as makes no difference. I also ordered some medieval pads to place on my boarding squad and they fit really well whilst stylistically suiting my marines down to a tee.

Very impressed with them as pieces, there was no miscasting and so little flash it may as well have been none. I've got my eye on some of the other bits and pieces for future projects. Really excited to see what new re
    leases you come up with.

    @ Clausel and Sockwithaticket,

Thanks very much for your feedback! I really appreciate it

    @Obsidian Raven,

Yes Im afraid its designed as a crew served weapon for a tripod, so would look oversized on a Steam Lord.

I intend to release a few Steam Lord sized heavy weapons though, auto cannons, missile launchers, anything else people request.

    @Azreal13,

The chain glaive was the replacement/upgrade for the old glaive, which is now discontinued.
I am planning to redo the old glaive though with a longer, sleeker looking power blade on it. Cant say when Ill get to it though as its only me and I have so so much to do!!

I had a day off yesterday recuperating from the week of 12-14 hour days I put in preparing for salute, but as of now Anvil Industry is open for business again and Ill be working on new product as soon as I've dispatched all orders!

Hey Joel, was great to see you at Salute (sorry if I seemed distracted, talking to you and kit at the same time is quite disorienting!)

Bionics are great! personally I'd have used a softer resin and larger pegs on the elbows so they can snap together and be posed, but the hard resin you've used looks like it's very durable. Still think you should make hands for the non-medium arms, but that's just me

chainglaives are lovely, the different wrist joins promote slightly more dynamic poses, but at the same time can be easily removed. I'd love to be able to buy scythes/chainscythes in the same style... *hint hint*

shotguns & scopes - I really only bought these to bulk out my order, but I'm glad I did. Scopes are massively more detailed than the GW alternatives, I'm awfully tempted to kit out a whole squad with them. On the Shotguns, I bought these to do weapon swaps on some Heresy Troopers, but it turns out the troopers don't really suit weapon swaps, so they're headed for the bits box. very nice design, I'm dreading trying to drill them out though!

Sounds like the show was a big success for you, hope to see you next year!

Hey, yeah it was an awesome day, I dont actually remember meeting you, please forgive me, as the whole day just seemed to rush by in a blur of wargaming accessory parts!!

My search for the perfect resin is constant, they all have subtly different properties and its hard to find one with the perfect balance, but my current resin cures to a decent strength and also casts very nicely indeed with virtually no air bubble issues.

Ill put scythes on the list, which is as long as my arm! I also definately like to make bionic hands in different sizes, the issue is always time. I only have so much of it! Im hoping over the next few months I will be able to afford to invest in a lot more sculpting/casting commissions which should speed releases up a bit.

Do you mean drill out the shotgun barrel? I wouldnt reccommend it but let me know if you manage it!

Ill definately be a salute next year, with a stand 2-3 times the size hopefully!

    Cheers,

    joel

    EDIT-

Here is a photo of Anvil Industry at Salute! myself (left) and my mate Charlie who kindly agreed to help out on the day.

We were sharing the stand with Kit from Zinge Industries and the arrangment worked out really well although we could both have done with twice as much space!

The show was absolutely mad, from 10.30 untill about 3 our stand was packed, people 2-3 deep non stop, loads of fun and got some great feedback and encouragement so really look forward to the next show!

Its late and Im tired but I have new Product to announce!!

Proper photos for some of this stuff will be sorted out tomorrow but...

The Steam Lords are now available again in a new purchasing format which is hopefully easier to use, and more importantly, slightly cheaper than before!

Even more importantly, I now have bare rifle arms available-

So they can finally pack some serious firepower.

Five different Steam Lords built from the full range, to show how much variety can be created!

These Rifle arms are designed to be realistic, with the stock correctly shouldered. 5 different sculpts available.

Ill be working on the armoured medieval rifle arms over the next few days.

Let me know what you think, I've got pleanty of ideas for new weapons and option parts but more ideas always helpfull!

    Cheers,

Im working on it, its just that everything seems to take longer than planned and I have so many ideas for new projects!

A new Anvil Gaming Base set which I debuted at SALUTE, is now available to pre-order, dispatching from May 7th.

    "City Rubble"

The larger pieces of lose rubble/broken brick wall shown on the 40 and 60mm bases are actually separate components on the sprue, so no two bases need look exactly the same! And like the other Anvil Gaming Bases, these will remain stable on almost any terrain surface.

Ill be putting up the full range and some better photos in about a weeks time.

Wow, first of all just have to say I love the Steam Lords.
And, I think the route you are taking with customisable orders is excellent!

With the various sets (of bodies, arms, rifles etc.) will it be possible to order a selection of them, rather than 5 of the same type?

awesome, I have some test bases in stock, so your small order will actually dispatch today! thanks very much

    @Pacific,

Thanks very much!! one of things I wanted to do differently with Anvil was make every single part available separately, so allowing for maximum customisation.

All of the components to make up steam lords are available separately to make up individual figures. the problem with having a set of 5 with each model potentially different is that it takes much longer to pick and pack the order due to there being lots of different parts, when all my components come on sprues of five..

I do hope to create a "one steam lord" product again, which will allow for a single custom model, then this could be ordered several times to make varied squads. The discount on this would be slightly less generous than the squads of 5, to allow for the extra packing time.

in the meanwhile, if you wanted to order a squad, its no problem to specify some different options in the order comments box, so long as its not to complicated..

    ---------------

In other news.. The awesome people at Chessex Dice sent me this photo today.. the coolest thing Ive seen in a long time!!

    http://www.chessex.com/Dice/Dice_Home.htm

I have the option to purchase a few hundred Anvil Branded 16mm dice.. but would anyone actually buy them? Im thinking £3 for 6, which just about covers my costs, not looking to make a profit on these..
Should I have the "Anvil Industry" words instead of the "blacksmith though? choices choices..

    Cheers,

    Joel

A few people might, but I wouldn't - pay you money to get dice that advertise you? why on earth would someone do that?

Not ripping on you specifically, lots of companies do self-branded dice, I just don't see the point of anyone buying them except as a token show of support. They're more the kind of thing you pop in an order bag or give out at trade shows, like a business card.

I have it on good authority that Dakka Dice contain proprietary technology that allows you to always roll 6s for your leadership tests, and 1s for your shooting. That kind of technology doesn't come cheap.

    Post by: Anvils Hammer

    Hey Guys,

    thanks for the suggestions!

    @Madmuzza/regarding "true scale"

yes this is somthing Ive considered, there are two options to make the Steam Lords bigger. (they currently run about 33mm to eye level)

The first, easiest, option, is to make longer, bulkier legs, say an extra 5-6mm of height, but still use the existing upper bodies as they are.
This would create a much taller/more imposing figure, and as the shoulder pads/arms/weapons are already "oversize" the models overall proportions would still work.

The second option is to use the existing arms, weapons, helmets and backpacks, but make the new larger legs AND slightly larger torsos and shoulder pads, possibly a larger powerpack as well.

Just making bigger legs would be an easy way to make taller, more astestically scaled miniatures, and the legs alone as a conversion kit would be a lot cheaper than the "full version".

Id love to hear peoples thoughts on this, which route should I take?

    @Newabortion

    Thanks for the wishlist,
I cant currently think of a way to make rifle slings in resin, but would recommend it would be quite easy to do with thin strips of card.
I am doing a "Rifle arms 2" set to add more variety and I will look at including a slung version of some sort.

laser designator and bipod added to the list.

The stick and curved mags I do can be glued together with one in the gun and one reversed, is this what you mean? or do you mean side by side both facing up?

Im currently preparing a whole load of new weapons for design and release. Currently on the list-

    Laser/Pulse Rifle
    Sniper Rifle
    heavy Plasma Rifle
    Fusion Cutter
    "twin" pistol/carbine varients.

    Bi-pod
    red dot scope
    laser designator
    regular bayonet.
spent ammo casings for decorating bases/flying out of guns etc.

    and heavy squad weapons-

    Missile launcher
    Laser Cannon
SAW - a scaled up version of the widow maker rifle.

Im also in the process of having all my helmets redesigned in CAD and hopefully a few new ones in the works as well.

Any further suggestions for the list very welcome!

    Cheers,

    Joel

I have used one of your competitors oversized legs, and assembled them with a regular size torso and arms but used bigger shoulder pads. I think they ended up looking pretty decent in those proportions.

Something I think would be an awesome thing would be a sprue of "Fusion Cutter" Nozzles for conversions. I know I would pay for a set of unified looking nozzles for conversion uses.

Considering the difficulty of obtaining combi-meltas and equivalents these would sell like hot cakes.

Alternatively you could stick them to the back of vehicles for exhaust pipes.

    Ooooohh, oohh, oohh! <smokes cigarette>

Sniper rifles, Missile launchers, Bipods, bigger version of the Widowmaker as a SAW variant. Once those and the Bionic Legs are in, I shall have to put in another order, probably with armoured arms to carry the widowmakers I already have.

    @Madmuzza/regarding "true scale"

yes this is somthing Ive considered, there are two options to make the Steam Lords bigger.

Thanks a lot for listening to my suggestions! Referring to the taped mags, I meant both "taped" together upright, but due to the short size of the one in the rifle (I know its realistic, part of the mag is in the gun afterall.) having an equally shout mag next to it wouldn't look right :/ simple i know.

About the helmets (if your going guard) and other weapons, please make them look functional! One example I would like to use is Defiance Games, although I could overlook the weapon models I couldn't overlook how horrible their helmets were, complete lack of peripheral vision and surrounding the face...wtf (I know its just personal preference so take it a grain of salt.)

Another wish list item would be 2 sniper variants a heavy (anti material) rifle and a scout rifle. I want go back and stress the look of functionality again ( once again also referring to guard, Space Romans can carry a 30 pound sniper rifle all day i guess)

One other question, your widow maker rifle will fit guardsmen right? I seen the comparison pictures but on ebay they said they were Marine size.

(Anyways this is just what would be important to me...)

@d-usa, thanks very much for your feedback! It will be a few weeks at least before I can think about any larger parts, but I will probable make some mock ups and post photos here for feedback.

@Vain, I will put that idea on the list! seems to fit my product range

@Conrad, working as fast as I can! Im going to try and make the leg bionics similarly multi pose and multi size, but will see what I come up with, not sure yet.

@newabortion, No problem, I try to make what people want, more usefull parts=more sales=more money to cover costs and invest in making more usefull parts!

The mags are modeled with bullets in them, and the rifles have a small recess, so they are meant to be full mags, but I know what you mean, a "real" gun would have more of the mag inside it. I will have play around at making some taped mags if I get a chance!

Ill be making just the one sniper rifle initially, for the "space romans" but when I get to making guardsman sized minis I will make a smaller version.

The rifles I do can be used to convert guard but are quite large ! I assume cadian models? The rifles are the same lenght as a lasgun, 25mm, but substantially more bulky as you can see in the comparison photo posted further up the thread.

The Carbine varients are shorter and thus, less bulky, so might be more appropriate. The pump action shotgun is slimmer, so looks great on guard figures, and the auto-shotgun-rifle is between the two.

When I come to make my guard range, I will actually be scaling down all the rifles a bit and reprinting them, to fit slightly better with normal human figures, but that is all, realistically, 3-6 months away.

    Cheers,

    Joel

Alright, so here is the picture of using true-scale legs with regular torsos.

Just to update people who are skimming the thread or are new to it: These are made with the true-scale kit sold by Chapterhouse. The only reason I am posting their stuff in an Anvil Industry thread was to share my experiences with using true-scale legs with a regular scale torso to help the guys at Anvil decide if they want to do a whole kit or legs only. No malicious attempt to spam their thread with competitors products

Both guys are assembled with true-scale legs. The guy on the right was assembled using both true scale legs and a true scale torso.

The guy on the left was assembled using true scale legs and a regular FW torso.

Both are using regular scale heads and arms, but either true scale pads or terminator pads.

Personally I like the proportions on the left guy better. I think the legs and bigger pads give him enough scale to make him seem bigger without looking weird and he is still at least a head bigger than a regular space marine. I think the guy on the right with the bigger torso almost looks like his head and arms are too small now.

Of course that is my personal opinion and yours may vary. And no snide remarks about paint job

@Charax and emperer bacon, I try to offer the best value for money I can, but I cant quite manage 12p per rifle!!

@Synthetik, Thanks very much!! I'm glad you are pleased with the product, The newer 3D printed stuff (inc rifles, bionics) is the nicest stuff Ive made so far, its so much more precise than almost any hand sculpting. I will be using 3D printing progressively more and more in future.

@d-usa, thanks for posting the photo, would you mind measuring the Chapterhouse legs from sole of foot to the join with the waist? Ideally in mm if you can. The legs seem enormous even for true-scale minis.

Im of the opinion that even "true scale" minis should still be realistic for 28mm heroic.. so if 6 feet tall is around 32mm, then super human should be between 42.5mm (8' ) and 45mm (8.5' ).

Im 5'10, and my arm is about 2' long from shoulder to fist, my Steam Lord arms are approx 14mm long, which means they are "in scale" still on a miniature which is 43mm tall.

My regular size torsos are about 9mm tall, 14mm tall with the helmet, and the legs are 17.5mm sole to waist.

    using various proportions shown here-

    http://www.idrawdigital.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/prop_var.gif

The torso and helmet should be 16mm, and the legs should be 25mm, for a 42mm tall mini.

if the head and torsos were to remain at 14mm, the mini would be 40mm tall and the legs would look unnaturally long.

    So the options are-

    1. New larger torsos and legs, but same arms, heads, pads etc, making miniatures which are 42mm tall, equivalent to 8' in heroic 28mm scale. these minis would be TWO HEADS taller than a regular Steam Lord.

    2. Use the existing torsos and scale the legs appropriately for the torsos, making the new miniatures approx 37.5mm tall, which is ONE HEAD bigger than a regular Steam Lord.

I will do some more measuring and thinking about this when I get a chance, and post up some detailed scale sketches showing what the different options will look like.

    Cheers,

    Joel

well anyways i am still gone order shoulder pads, guns, city bases and capes for 40 marines (possibly more) maby next month since they will be looking awsome with it only 2 question more have you ever tought about making somthing else then medival and roman like samurai cyberpunk since thats somthing i have allways wished for to do on my marines and the capes do they fit good on normal marines without to much work as i am tempted to make them all look like they have camo cloacks

I vote for the true-scale being two heads taller. It's been described that way several times in the fluff. For example in the word bearers books a guardsman (an elysian, who are usually tall) injures a Chaos Space marine, and he falls down on his knees, but even on his knees his head comes to the same height as the guardsman. And that's only off the top of my head... plenty of other times it's described as well as being the proportions for the drawings artists make. So 8'/42 mm is the standard. And you need to sculpt the torso/shouderpads as well.

Also I ordered those chapterhouse kits and keep in mind, while being the correct height, they are a little bit on the skinny side. The warsmith ones were better while available (yeah I know it's the same guy). A converted terminator leg comes out slightly thicker than a chapterhouse leg, and converted terminator legs (with added height to the shins) are probably the best standard to go by.

@emperor bacon, thanks!! Yes I hope to do other styles of Steam Lord component including Samurai parts! Its just a matter of finding the time for it!

The regular cloaks fit great on GW tactical space marines with no modification, the fur cloaks will occasionally need some fur trimming depending on the positioning of the pack and shoulder pads, but its nothing difficult.

@Meade, thanks for your feedback! Im certainly leaning that way, its more work but would result in a better product, and Ill certainly be making the legs chunkier than the Chapterhouse kit, probably with interchangeable armour plates and so forth for customization.

    Cheers,

    Joel

Take measurement in inches, multiply by 25.4 to convert to millimeters.

I thought you were of recent German ancestry - you should already know this!

It is easy enough to convert, but the main problem for me is the accuracy of the tools used. The smallest markings on my measuring tabs is 1/8 inch. So instead of measuring in mm increments, I would be measuring in 3 mm steps unless I am eyeballing measurements which is clearly not acceptable.

My German ancestry would not appreciate such sloppy measurements.

Im pretty excited about these big kits now.. Current release shedule-

Armoured Medieval Rifle Arms and bioinc Rifle arms - Out on Wednesday

Running legs - out next wednesday.

Then the "Steam Giants" as I shall call them, after that.

Ive also got a few bits Im going to have 3D designed, which will slot into the release schedule at some point, next month now though.
