truescale chaos starts on page 4
He skittered through the pathways of the under-empire, excitement quickening his pace. Finally after four moons cycles had passed he had found what they had been searching for. After mounds of the masters warptokens and been spent, not with out the odd few hidden away for him self not sneak-steal no never from the master just kept in case yes yes. He had finally found it, even if he had had to make a pack with the diseased vermin and their sickly priest. He entered the vast warren of clan skabmore, his home, he headed down to the deepest lair.
Entering the lair he found the master and leader of the clan, sat on a throne built from the bones of the many defeated enemies of the clan. Behind the throne were the hulking furless forms of four brood-mothers testament to the clans and the leaders power. As he approached the throne he bowed his head in servitude, "master it is done I have found the scrolls which we sneak-searched for all this time".
"Good engineer Skreet, you have done well the horned rat will look upon you with favour in the coming days", said the leader. "I Krittit Scabmore shall rise in power beyond even the damned council yes yes much power".
A smirk spread across the warplock engineers face unseen by the master "yes master your fate awaits, their is just one thing master, I had to make pact-deal with the pestilent priest to get what we needed."
Krittit lashed out with his foot kicking the engineer across the snout of his rat like face, sending him sprawling across the floor. " You fool, you dare make pacts with out my consent," he snarled baring his fangs as he pressed the claws of his paw onto the engineers throat.
"But master......I sneak-tricked the plague priest yes yes, he thinks....... he summons his dark God........ not the horned rat master, he is a fool....... beneath your notice yes yes oh magnificent leader Skabmore." The engineer grovelled choking out the words.
"Hmmmm very well," the leader mutter stepping off the engineers throat. The engineer started to edge his way towards the lairs entrance, " Shall I make the preparations my lord we should leave soon if we are to be ready for when Morrslieb is next at its fullest." He said almost at the entrance. "Yes go." Snarled Krittit lashing out with his tail as he turned catching the engineer across the chest sending him stumbling out of the lair.
So i dicided to do a Vermin Lord for my skaven army but the GW model is a bit dated and i want mine to be impressive. I needed a center piece for my army as it is a massive horde army so i wanted something to tower above the rest of my models.
I decided to use the Balrog as i like its shape and it is really huge so i think its a real good starting point.
This is now becoming a whole skaven army blog as the Vermin Lord is going to be the centerpiece of quite a unique force if i do say so myself.
Any C&C is welcome and i will try to reply to any Questions.
so bellow is how far i have gotten first thing is to put the body together and cut down the secound set of holes where the wings would normally go.
Next was to stick on the head i used the dragon skull from the giant kit this has had the nose cut down the eyebrows reshaped and horns added the horns are from the fantasy ork banner top.
next i used the small flames from the Balrog base to create fur on the legs and back. these where then greenstuffed into the body to blend in.
I also glued on the arms and filled in the secound sets of holes.

So i have done some more work on the Vermin Lord, firstly i added the lower jaw this is also taken from the giant kit i added a plasticard bottom to it as its very easy to break becouse it only glues in one place.
i also used greenstuff to create some detail in the lowwer jaw and add a tongue i'm sorry about the crap pic but you can just see the tounge
next was to start on the massive amount of fur this thing will have, again in greenstuff, i have only done the right side so far as i will allow this to dry so i dont mess it up when doin the other side

Looking very good, I do hope you're going to greenstuff the massive frontal incisors to give it that rat identifier.
48248
Post by: kencotter
im thinkin of usin plasticard for thn but will do it en i start on the head im doin one half rat face one half skull like the GW model

Just don't give it beaver teeth.

Post by: kencotter
So i have completed some more work on him
i added an Orb to his left hand becouse i thought it would look to empty with the doom glave being in the other. I did this with greenstuff and i also repositioned the fingers to clutch it as they are quite open, i did this by cutting little V's out of them abd bending them i then filled in the gaps with greenstuff.
I also started the sculpting of the head and added the bottom set off horns these are from the Balrog kit just cut down a bit.
I also added the rat teeth at the front with plasticard but this was after i had taken pics lol
next came the Doom Glaive i created this using the sword arm from the Balrog. I first cut down the flames then added three blades to the top these are from the Ork Boyz sprue but cut to diffrent lengths. I next added some plasticard to the side with little plasticard squares to act as bolts i then cut the handle off the back of the hand and added a length of brass rod.

So a lot of work has been done on my Vermin Lord and thankfully he is finished well the modelling is done just have to paint the beast now.
first up i finished sculpting his face and joint the lower jaw into the neck.
nect i covered up the scaley forarms with fur
and finally came the Doom Glaive i finished this by creating cloth around the handle where he holds it with plasticard, then i coverd the bottom half of the handle in greenstuff and run my sculpting tools along it to creat a wood grain effect, to end it all off i used the banner top from the plauge monks spure.
I also created a base for him this has a broken pipe made from brass rod with green stuff water coming out, a pillar from the Warhammer Fortifed Manor and cobble stones created out of plasticard im doing a kind of under empire sewer theme for my bases in my skaven army.
and here is a comparesion shot so you can see how big this monster really is.
on another note here is some picks of my converted Plauge Priest for the same army. he is made from a necromancer
you cant see it real well in the picks but the greenstuff coming out of the skulls is whisps of smoke this will count as his plauge censure in the game.

I am mightily impressed with this, really looking forward to seeing it painted up.
Some things I've spotted:
- Right leg has a prominent join line.
- Elbows seem to have a thick border between skin and thick fur; maybe blur the line with thinning fur?
- Tail looks reptilian with the overlapping dorsal scales.
- No ears or whiskers? With the horns, I can see why ears could be tricky to incorporate, but it might be worth experimenting with piano wire around the snout...
- The globe. Without a 360° view, I can't see if this is just from the camera angles, but it doesn't look to me like the hand has a full grasp on it. Hold various objects - oranges, balls, etc - with one hand and compare your hand to the model (in particular, how far around the sphere your finger(s) go); if it matches, then put this point down to the camera's POV.
48248
Post by: kencotter
thanks for the suggestions lindsay40k
the joint in the right leg has ben filled in on the finished model,
the fur isthick near the elbows but the greenstuff has a peek in it and the underside is shaped like fur
im really tempter to add ears but your right would be tricky am thinking ones similar to the terrorgiest but laid flat, the reason i havent gone for whiskers is i dont think it would look right one the one side and not the other as im going for a similar style vermin lord as the GW model one half of the head is a skull,
i see what you mean by the sphere it doesnt look like a firm grasp because the front finger is more pointed but the back to fingers and thumb are flush with the sphere
hope this helps

Great looking stuff, Ive always loved Skaven, especially the new ones. Sadly they have the same problem (for me) as Dwarves...they are just too small, and I cant paint well enough to make them look good.

Sub'd Love the necromancer conversion... so little effort but the model looks so Skaveny!
48248
Post by: kencotter
mad4minis they are small lol but great minis to paint so much character but I'm doing a horde army so lots of practice painting hahhah
thanks henners91 it was really easy to do just the head from a Iob pack master and instead of the base i used a blank one with a bit of brass rod on as a pipe because the necromancer has a foot up then a little GS on the skulls for smoke and water coming from the pipe
the bases for this army are all cobble stones individually cut from plasticard i so need to find an easier way to do them hahahah

Post by: kencotter
another little update i have started doing a unit of Rat Ogers since i have 4 IoB Ogers im going to convert two of them
The first was quite simple i just cut the right arm and raised it then added an Oger Bull sword
the next had a bit more work to do i cut off the right arm then cut where it was bent upwars so i could straighten it out. i then removed the blade and replaced it with barrels from the empire outriders box to make a sort of ratling gun.
i then added the blade to the left hand along with a bit of the IoB packmasters staff to mage a knife, i also repostioned the tale.
they both still need a bit of green stuff and the first Rat Oger still needs a base but i will do this when i decide to do the finishing touches on my Vermin Lord

Excellent work so far. I always enjoy seeing Skaven projects. The balrog conversion is superb. Hail the great horned rat. *squeek*
48248
Post by: kencotter
thanks for the comments guys
JohnnoM - i don't have an abomination yet but I'm thinking of making one from either the Beastmen Jabbersythe or the Beastmen Ghorgon/Cygor kit but getting the main army sorted first as this army at 2000 points has 160 clan rats/slaves Automatically Appended Next Post: so i have done the greenstuff on my Rat Ogers and Vermin Lord. First up is the oger with the sword i even added some stich marks were it joins to the plastic.
next up the secound Rat Oger he has the most extensive work done some gap filling on the shoulder, and rebuilding the forearm.
lastly the last of the greenstuff to be done on my Vermin Lord, i added some ears
the next bit was to add a loin cloth he didnt really need it but i liked the idea of having somewhere to add my army colours.
48248
Post by: kencotter
two new Rat Ogers again made from the IoB figures no real conversion here i just made there heads face forwar by cutting away a bit of the neck and filling with greenstuff.
i also added some fur to the Vermin Lords thighs as i didnt like the scales on them

Post by: kencotter
So my Instamold came today first time using this stuff but if heard good things from people on here. I decided it would be good to make my bases hopefully a lot faster then my current way of cutting out individual bricks from plasticard then glueing them on.
Anyway to start i first made 5 basese the way i usually do
after this i heated up the instamold and pressed it down on the basses once cooled and hard i then removed the bases and was left with the impressions of my plasticard brickwork
i then pushed in a thin layer of greenstuff and will see how they come out in the morning
i then used the bases i had made to start one of the first ranks of a Skavenslaves unit
here is also a pic of my finished Rat Oger unit
and my Vermin Lord is now primed and readdy to paint so pics of that later

Post by: kencotter
so another update firstly the instamold bases came out great the greenstuff is set and after supergluing it to the bases and adding my clanrat i think with a bit of sand and paint they are gonna look awsome and so much quicker to make then the plasticard ones where.
and my vermin lord got some paint today i started on the fur first as this is going to be mainly drybrushed i did it first so it wouldnt mess up anything else
first i give it a good layer of bestial brown
i then gave it a drybrushing of graveyard earth and then dheneb stone. I also gave the base a drybrush of first fenris grey then whent over with astronomican grey.
next i gave the skin area a good layer of tallarn flesh and did all the areas that will be rust or bone a layer of scorthed brown
when this was dry i gave the skin a wash with my special skin wash which is a 1:1 mix of scorched brown and chaos black watered down to a wash.
48248
Post by: kencotter
todays update begains with more bases i love how quick i can make these now
next a load of painting on the vermin lord i did a layer of bestial brown on the bone areas, claws and horns
and a layer of dark angels green on the warpstone
i then redid the areas of skin with talleran flesh leaving the washed colour in the recesses, aswell as doing the first layers of yellow on the banner/loincloth
i then finished the rusted metal areas and started on the brass
next was a layer of bleach bone on the bone, claws and horns
i then finished the warpstone areas by layering up with diffrent shades of green
i then finished up for the day by adding a 1:1 mix of hawk turquois and dark angels green wash to the brass areas to create a verdigras effect and an ogren flesh wash on the yellow
i might try writting up the army fluff for the army soon

another update on how the hoard grows, finshed the sculpt on the rat ogers tail nothing to fancy but does the job.
yet more skaven slaves join the army
and the first stages of paint get applied to the rat oger all the base colours and washes are done along with all the rusty metal and the fur has been highlighted all that is left is the skin, yellow armour, warpstone, teeth, claws etc and the little details (scars, boils and such

time for another update on the old skaven army gonna call them clan Skabmore i think might try writing some fluff for these guys soon, anyway onto the modles.
i decided to add snow to the bases didnt go all out with clumpy snow mixes just straight out of the tub snow flock i think it looks more like frost which i like.
and lastly a group shot of the army as it stands
still lots to do
PAINT
1 rat oger
10 skavenslaves w/spears & shields
BUILD & PAINT
40 skaven clanrats w/hand weapon & shields
40 skaven clanrats w/spears & shields
40 skavenslaves w/hand weapon & shields
20 plauge monks

small update more bases done and started the second unit of slaves
48248
Post by: kencotter
another rat oger joins the ranks last of the ones i have so just more slaves to paint and the start of a 40 strong unit of clanrats, might use them as an opportunity to do a tutorial on painting yellow as the painting and modeling thread is always full of people asking how to do it.
anyway few picks of the rat oger

Nice stuff! I play skaven too and have way to many and painting is so slow.
I like that vermin lord, just a heads up with the third end times book there is supposed to be a new plastic vermin lord kit (and if you look at all the huge sculpts from the end times releases it might be monster model lol)
How big is your army now 2 years later? Would like to see a picture of those stormvermin all ranked up I really like the yellow (although I hate painting yellow lol)

damn i bet the new plastic will be huge hahahaaahaaha
unfortunatly its not that much bigger since i have been out of the hobby for some time so i joint a campain to hopfully push it forward as i have at least another 40 rats to add an additional rat oger and i think another 4 weapon teams

I have to many rat ogres and warlords lol not that I ever use him but it will give me an excuse to convert something new! (And avoid painting the rest of my stuff )

[i]Skreet made his way back to his own lair-workshop on the other side of the warren, waiting for him upon his arrival was fangleader kreklaw preening his thick white fur, Warlord Skabmore had paid the engineer vast sums of money to obtain albino pups from across the under-empire without the councils knowledge. It had taken three years to create the elite stormvermin squad force grown on clan moulder nutrient elixirs, albino pups are sort after by the council for their unskaven like loyalty to their master. The warlord had the most elite group outside the council itself or so he thought since it was Skreet that raised and trained them from the moment the mulling creatures had opened their eyes they had swore loyalty to him and only faked allegiance to Krittit.
"Master how goes your journey was the mission a success?" Asked Kreklaw, once he had noticed the arrival of the warplock engineer.
Removing the filthy greedy brown robe that he had worn to help fake his so called secret allegiance to the unclean one, Skreet walked over to the rack built into the back wall of the lair-workshop and dressed first in his robes and then the drab mustard yellow armour of clan Skabmore. Now feeling himself again he reached for his energy condenser, finally strapped into the weird copper and warpstone contraption he turned to the fangleader. "All is as planned we march for the sacred site before morrsleib next reaches its fullest," he says as he pulls a hidden lever next to his armour rack the entrance to his lair locks with a large iron bolt as the rear wall of the workshop slides into the floor. Hidden behind is a small antechamber with a desk upon which sits books of arcane knowledge and the plans of his dastardly plot to take control of clan Skabmore
so added a unit of clan rats to my army for the escalation league at my local store along with bumping up some other units was really suprised by how my giant rat pack did for a unit that cost less then 50 points, glad i added clanrats now though as my color scheme is really starting to show through, they still need a bit of work extra 5 rats to paint plus snow to the bases
also i started to have a go at my first truescale marine to go with my nurgle herald for a possible armies on parade board, while i was lengthening the legs i took the opportunity to add some details to make them more chaos like gonna do some more work on top when the GS drys. i also started to build up an abdomen

thanks alot its my first go at truescaling so im really happy with how it turned out he is leaning back abit thou, im gonna do a little work on the buckler and add some boils and stuff to it i think hopefully tie it in a bit more then.
Medium of Death wrote:Really loving those dregs. The coffin on the back one is probably my favourite.

high praise indeed haha i think the coffin character is my fav to all i really like the hunchback im just not sure about the relicy thing on his back yet i might change it to look like he is carying a large bag or something i see him as the igor of the group
oh and im also gutted as i went to buy that ghoul king and they had sold out but i have an idea for a von carstein vampire instead so im not just ripping of bruticus's warband hahaah i might also use the lord of the rings wargs as dire wolves if i can get my hands on them
as for the bow strings its just regular old cotton i put a dab of superglue on the end of the bow rap it around once or twice then make sure the cotton is stuck so it goes straight down and then do the same thing on the bottom

As a full morrslieb reached the highest point of its arc through the night sky casting an eerie green glow over the land, the skaven of clan Skabmore gathered. The foul priest of the plague monks came forward to meet with the skreet and the warlord. "Are you ready to begin the incantations" he asked between the thick gurgles of a puss filled voic, the engineer could smell the thin wisps of noxious green gas wisping from his slack jaw and nostrils.
While the warlord watched on with evident excitment of the power he had been promised, together Skreet and the priest drew upon the ground with blades made of pure warpstone, a summoning circle surrounded by arcane runes nether the warlord nor the priest understood. They stepped back and the enginer gestured for the warlord to enter the circle. " Step to the center my master, and the power you so dearly crave shall be yours."
Skreet signalled to the priest and they began, finally Skreet thought the clan shall be mine. He drew power from the winds of magic through the warpstone and copper condenser upon his back channelling and intensifying the energy as him and the priest began to chant. Arcs of bright green energy flowed out of his fingertips to the circle lighting the lines they had drawn with an unworldly glow, the foul green mist of the plague priest magic swirled around the edge of the circle building into a whirlwind. Suddenly lightning arced from the clouds of gathering magic into the warlords body causing him to cry out in agony. "Skreet," the warlord bellowed " what have you done?"
His body began to rise tell he was suspended like a puppet a few feet from the ground "Kreklaw stop them they have betrayed me" the warlord cried out. " I would never serve you, you ignorant fool. Skreet is my true master, clan Skabmore belongs to him now." Shouted Kreklaw with mirth in his voice finally their treachery was reviled and his stormvermin spread out slaying the few clawleaders loyal to the warlord and replacing them with agents loyal to the engineer.
Krittit's body began to spasm as more lighting arced into him, there was a loud and agonising crunch of bones as his limbs bent out of shape and elongated. "Now our deal is done Skreet the great unclean one comes," rasped the priest.
Skreet chuckled aloud and looked the priest in his cataract filled eyes. " Fool your god does not come, look and bow down at what my power has unleashed the avatar of the horned rat approaches kneel and swear loyalty or your fate shall be delivered." With that the warlord skreams turned into a bestial roar the stink of fear musk from the collected skaven suddenly filled the air. The warlords body grew tremendous in size, the skin on one side of his face stretching and breaking apart to reveal a gleaming white skull the eyes filled with the glow of eldritch warp magic's as great horns grew from his head. a massive gout of warpfire spewed from his talons solidifying into a massive glaive. The verming lord was born into this world. "Forward we march!" shouted Skreet "This world will be ours!"
so i haven't had massive amounts of hobby time lately and what little i have had has been spent finishing my skaven for the campaign i'm now nearly at 2000pts
big units of skaven mean big movement trays these will hold a unit of 50 in hoard formation
and hear is my army so far in all its glory
a few models need repairs nothing major its just normal gaming ear and tear nothing a dab of glue wont fix
i still have a unit of 30 slaves to add and 10 clanrats to add to an existing unit

Martilth was born under the strange light of Morrsleib, to a woman striken by the plauge. Her father unable to look at this wyrdling omen left her in the darkwoods. Found and raised by a mutant gang she was taught the ways of magik by a beastlin shaman. Ever questing for more power she was drawn to a strange power growing in the west there she found the Necromancer
my very WIP witch/necromancer made from a combination of grave guard, wood elf, necromancer and corpse cart bits she needs a lot of GS work but im all out atm.

so been a bit quiet over the holidays but i did get a big supply drop
i now have lots of stuff to do like make terrain, objective markers and i recently reoganised my work space. i now have a larger modelling/ painting area and enough room to play necromunda or mordheim without to much hassle.
also my local GW store is holding a painting comp this month with the theme of a warband all it takes to enter is buy a box of miniatures from the store and since i just bought two i thought why not.
i figure i will expand on my necromancer by making a strogi vampire warband about the size of a mordheim gang and even do a nice little display base for them which is something i haven't done before.
so heres my start four dire wolves and the start of the display base

been working on my warband some more got everything placed out where its going, just need to build a few more ghouls, another dreg and my vampire. should have all the bits soon.
also i want a way to mark out my doom wolf so i as thinking about him being the only black wolf in the pack and using a skull on a rope. i have two options either hanging underneath or like the Japanese kitsune myth tying it to the top but im not sure anybody feel like helping

The Ghoul King rises
big entry today my warband is done
first up is my ghoul king and smythe, i wasn't really a fan of the ghoul king cause i was planning on a conversion and it felt like a little bit of a let down to use the one from the zombie dragon kiy. until i painted him now i really like him.
and here is everything together on its base
i have also been making some objective markers for an upcoming 40k campaign in which im running my orks
and the LIGHT UP yeah thats right
my fav is the hobo fire oil drum
now all i have to do is build another 3 objectives and 4 army map markers
48248
Post by: kencotter
im gonna use this little oop orc shaman as my 40k ork weirdboy i like the savage look he has to make him stand out as something entirely different to the rest of the army

Those looted wagons look spiffing as well..

@norn king thanks the objectives where easy to make just electric T-lights opened up then bits of models, sprue n straws glued all over.

soo a few of you may know im keen on playing necromunda so i started buildind a board and some scenery
here is my board its not textured just used paint to give it a textured look i choose not to texture it so terrain would balance easily as i have always been a fan of tall stacked boards
i found these bridges for childrens toy trains and thought they maybe usefull
after taking them apart i thought the wooden center would look good if painted up a a sort of monorail
i cut these bits off n flipped the bridge to give it a different look i think they may be useful to make smaller walkways. I then added granny grating to some card then glued them in place
48248
Post by: kencotter
painted up the wooden tracks and i don't think they look to bad possibly glue some grating over the connectors to hide them
48248
Post by: kencotter
got some lasercut MDF terrain today scored it pretty cheap about £4 as its my first purchase didnt want to spend to much.
but i gotta say it was great and i will be investing in some more, so here we go
48248
Post by: kencotter
so i found these car model kits in the pondshop/dollar store
after cutting them up i think they look good as wrecks and they are almost to scale maybe a little big
based and stacked they look great
here is my necromunda board so far

Looks very good, I like the pouldron of hands, very chaos! I've always been a fan of the dirty white chaos look. Out of interest, the cars you got from the dollar store, what scale are they? It's a great idea for scenery.
48248
Post by: kencotter
@Calibanite Lion thanks a lot man im really pleased with his armor. as for the cars unfortunately they didn't have a scale on them they are also a weird clip together kit. i just rather rudly opened a box in store and looked at them lol they are a little on the big size i know that 1:48 scale is about right for 28mm though if that helps

Baltor Tal model looks awesome. He came out really great. The new icon bearer is looking good, too. If I may suggest, maybe if you linked the 3 shields in the front with 3 strips of plasticard to kind of show that they are bolted together it might make it look a little better? Just an idea.

so been working on some terrain recently picked up some of the Prometheus pipe lines, they are a great kit might pick up more.

Tanthor Bal, icon bearer, warden to the deamons gateway. Tanthor carries the pirate warbands icon, with it he is abe to channel a gateway to the warp to help summon deamons to the material realm. Kar'thor is loath to do so as he knows that no pact with deamons comes without a hefty price and has warned Tanthor it is only a last resort.

He's looking nice. Like the muted colours. Like the new icon too.
Is the base done with the new GW stuff?
As for the Electro priests that you mentioned in my thread I'll need to check them out. Probably just kitbash something though as I've got tons of bits and pieces left.

Altarim Mas'ud company commander of the Tallaran 11th known as the sand raiders. The 11th regiment were called to the Sabbat system to gather intel on Kar'thor and his pirates. Their knowledge of covert desert war-fair is unparalleled. Altarim and his men have had several successful raids and have used delay tactics against Kar'thors troops effectively enough to stop Kar'thor becoming to much of a threat in the grand scheme of the war so far. Although the high command are unsure how long this will hold true.

been a bit quiet as i have started a new job and find all my creative juices going to that rather than my models. that being said i have managed to crack on with some stuff mainly this.
with the additional graves i made earlier and some extra i have managed to produce a substantial graveyard for Mordheim and Age of Sigmar
i found a rather innovative way of basing my rows of gravestones using rulers
i had a lot of fun painting the crypts and even converted one to have a descending staircase inside
48248
Post by: kencotter
so after all that fantasy terrain i decided to do some quick 40k stuff as i see a lot of fantasy in my future here are some easy craters i made
i also got around to painting Altarim Mas'ud, he is about 95% done im really happy with how his base tured out just the sand effect i was going for and he is based using baking powder + superglue
48248
Post by: kencotter
finally got round to doing one of these guys he is very WIP atm but i like how he is coming out i changed to a sword cause i wanted to have a more high fantasy feel i have also removed the details from the shoulder and shield the big rock on his base is from the giant kit with the giants hand cut off
48248
Post by: kencotter
here is my finished Stormcast Eternal i am very happy with the way he turned out i wanted to give him lots of free hand work as the shields are perfect once the molded on details are taken off and i wanted to link him to my vampires. so i imagined him as some sort of vampire hunter the metal work has all been glased with purple n blue hazes to look like tempered iron i think in the fluff of the stormcast they are reborn in lightening everytime they die so i imagine there armor is reforged each time.
speaking of vampires some new additions to my vampire counts, bat swarms
its been awhile since i made a metal model, these are the LOTR giant bats but i will be using them as batswarms
