Hey Everybody!
Since its May the fourth, I'm finally starting a blog about my 40k episode II star wars miniatures..
Started this project about 1.5 years ago but never really pulled it trough. I just couldnt find the right codex to count-as my models.
But then the Grey Knight codex got released, and it was absolutely perfect for it!
I got inspired by this french guy from the Frenchwaaaghday:
(not my models)
Instead of Eldar Guardians I used the now old Dark Eldar warrior bodies with Eldar guardian heads and intensive converting.
Here are the results:
ARC troopers:
On to the painting part.
I used an off-white for the base coat so that I could still add an highlight to the models.
And I couldn't sculpt the T-visor in the helmet, so I chose to freehand it on every model instead.
Painted troopers: (They will count as Warrior Acolytes obviously)
These models were photographed in a photo tent i bought this afternoon including the lights.
I must say it turned out pretty well if you ask me
Another big inspiration for this project is the Star Wars animated series from Genndy Tartakovski's Clone Wars:
So let me know what you guys think, C&C welcome as always and have a happy May the fourth!

Sweet Army.
Kudos.
You've gone for more conversions than I did (mine consisted of making up batch of T-visor helmets for my marines, kama for the sternguard (Arc Troopers) and some other little bits for vet sgts.

Thanks. I know there weren't blue marked troopers in AotC, but still I really needed to break up the white with something.
They're all gonna have blue markings, except for Fordo! Yeah he's going to be included.

These are really awesome figures, you've really caught the flavor of the SW universe.
I second the request for a little tutorial if you end up making more Clone Troopers, I for one am really intrigued to see how you've done it.
D
6370
Post by: Develain
Alright that's 2 requests :p
If I get more then 5 requests then I will definitely make a tutorial for you all!
25762
Post by: LeBaron
Make that three requests. Those Clones are spot on. I enjoy the source you picked too. I preferred that Clone Wars version, as far as artwork goes.
6370
Post by: Develain
I feel a Tutorial coming up soon! Let the requests come in.
Only problem is, I am lacking Eldar Guardian heads at the moment.. The bits order site I use are undergoing server changes or something, so they can't re-supply them (I bought all the ones that were left last time )
Instead I will use Clone pilot helmets. They are slightly different but most of the conversion is the same for the normal Clone helmets.
So if anyone has a good source where I can get around 8 Eldar guardian helmets, that would be very helpfull for getting this project finished before the end of October !

Post by: Develain
Start of the tutorial:
Tutorial isn't finished yet, but I will share what I used for the Clone troopers
Materials:
Milliput Standard yellow grey
Plasticcard and plastic rod
Revell Plasto
Plastic glue ofcourse
Tools:
Several modeling knives
Several files
Your fingers
The Bits:
alright 2 more requests and the tutorial will be made!

I have just been plugging through the clone wars episodes two at a time and was really wanting to make an army of them myself! Of course, I probably would never have got round to it and after seeing yours I bet I could not do as good of a job anyway...
Interested to see how you get along with making the walkers and such I suppose there are models already out there, hopefully there are some of the right scale!.
Now finish that tutorial, I want to see it to the end.!

Indeed, the episode was pretty cool just as the rest of the series. But the best got to be the first one of volume 2 where the Jedi are evacuated by Fordo and his troops.

Thanks guys.
Now I am dealing with a problem. The canopy in particular..
The canopy that is from the Valkyrie kit is just to square and boxy..
I want the canopy to look more round and sleak. Converting it is then. So I went looking online for materials, an came across this website:
http://www.clearplastictube.co.uk/
They cary a large variety of plastic tubes and rods, even the ones I am looking for. Everything is going as planned, I make an account select my stuff add to basket you know the drill, go to checkout...
Error: No Shipping options are available. Wtf?!
Sent them an E-mail asking what could be the problem. Haven't heard anything from them yet. My guess is they don't ship to the beautiful Netherlands where I am from.
So what now? Couldn't find a store here that has a variety of plastics like The Clear Plastic Shop.
So yeah.. that's kinda a bummer.
If anyone can help me find a good alternative for it.
I am looking for a clear plastic tube size: 20 mm diameter 2 mm thick length at least 50 cm. And a clear plastic rod: 6 mm diameter, 50 cm long.
Any help would be appreciated!

I must say, your models capture the look and feel of the animated clones. Well done so far.
Just a few questions: 1) How did you decide upon using Grey Knights for the codex count-as? 2) What did you use for the gatling gun barrels? They look like parts from a revolver or something.

1) Grey kinght codex has a Henchmen section. I am using Warrior acolytes (somekind of inquisitorial guardsmen)
2) Gatling guns are mostly scratchbuilt out of plasticcard/tube.

Thanks guys.
Alright tutorial time! sort of.. haha
Never done a tut. before. Unfortunately I can't do a complete trooper, simply because I don't have enough parts left!
But I am going to try and do my best anyway!
The helmet:
Made it in 8 steps:
1) I took an Eldar Guardian head, removed all the gems and other shenanigans that were on the helmet. Filed it down so it looks smooth. ( I use a very fine file, always gets a smooth surface afterwards)
2) Cut of the tip of the (cone) head with a scalpel or other sharp hobby knife.
3) File the head round, so that you get the basic helmet shape (used the same file as above)
4) I filled in the recess (face) with Revell Plasto (some sort of filler, very fine but dries in 15 mins hard) I make sure that the whole face is filled and no holes will appear when filed down.
5) Use a heavier file to remove most of the plasto once it dried out ofcourse. Afterwards use the finer file to get a smooth finish.
6) I cut 4,5 mm strips out of a 2 mm wide strip. File the end of each strip in a round shape. Add a rivet cut from a 1 mm plastic rod to the strip, add to the side of the helmet.
7) Here comes the hardest part. Putty. (For the record I don't use clay shapers or any other sculping tools, I only use my fingers and a hobby knife for the troopers.)
So just slap some milliput on there. I use my index finger with a little saliva (I know it's gross but it works the best, because it dries pretty fast and it's never too wet and messes up your sculpting) cut it in shape you want. I know this sounds pretty easy but this is something you teach yourself and practice makes perfect ofcourse. After it's dried you can file it to make up for your mistakes.
8) Do the same as above, slap putty in a sort of line as the basic shape is. Take your hobby knife and cut it into a strip. I used my fingers to make sure it is straight in the middle. Afterwards you can file ofcourse to make it look even smoother.
So thats about the Helmet.
I did find a set of unused DE warrior legs:
Going to break it down in 2 steps here:
1) Take the set of legs and remove all spiky bits with a hobby knife like I did with the helmet, and file it down.
2) The knee pads are quite simple. Little bit of putty on there and shape with fingers.
About the Arms and Torso. I don't have a single arm of torso left! So sorry about that. I could try and tell you how I did it but without pictures it's quite useless..
And now I wont get any copycats or clones! haha!
Anyway this was my first sort of Tutorial. Hope you liked it.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me anything.

I like how everything came together. I am more early Star Wars but this Cartoon match up looks great.
Can I offer some suggestions?
You can convert IG Sentintals into Walkers, Jedis can be your Terminators (larger base means better poses and landscape).
and make special Characters count as HQ, Like Bo Bo Fet, Jaba the hut, the Neneral, or the empirer.

Thanks Guys!
I am getting the parts to make the canopy for the gunship next saturday. That means I can start finishing the gunship soon.
@ Rogue Wolf: I don't have a chast piece left.. I can try to explain how I did it.. if you want to know so bad let me know
@ Supplydrop: Thanks, but I don't require more models or parts for this army
@ Adrian: Thanks for the input. Walkers are not an option for me in this army. The army list is finished.
I already have a Jedi modeled up as my HQ (Libby).
Boba Fett is still an infant in the Clone wars, Jaba would make a good nurgle daemon, so doesn't really fit in with the theme of this army lol.
Don't know what the neneral is and the emperor(?) is the chancelor of the republic in the Clone Wars ofcourse.

There will be a Clone Commander wielding a pistol. He will be leading the ARC troopers.

The logical clone commander w/ CCW would be a Jedi with armour.

Rogue Wolves wrote:this is looking amazing! do you plan on having some clones.. and maybie a special green fellow in the cargo end of that beauty?
Yes. The floor is magnetised, and the models in it are weighted with copper coins.
So they can stand magnetised in the cargo without falling out, as you can see in this picture:
Only problem is: I have 3 of these fliers, each with 1 squad in them + 2 characters joining 2 of those squads. That makes 8 units!
Got a Vindicare assassin, and some jokaero standing on the battlefield...
The new 6th edition states that I have to start with at least half of my units on the table at the start of turn 1. No problems whatsoever.
BUT.. Fliers have to start in reserve, and they start rolling in turn 2 for reserve.
So bummer. I can only start with 1 gunship filled with clones and a character, and the other gunship have to start without clones, because those clones have to start on the table
I have been thinking of adding and splitting more squads. But that is not going to happen!
Anyway, that was kind of a downer, but I don't really care about that. The army will be cool enough for me to finish it and play with it.
There is plenty of new stuff I have to show you guys!
So keep and eye out for more updates!

this is looking really good! interested to see how the jedi/vehicle turn out when finished!
could you not add a footslogging unit of clones operating some sort of themed aegis defense line/emplaced gun? (to help you get more units in flyers in reserve)
6370
Post by: Develain
Thanks for the input guys.
But the problem is: I have 10 units now. So 5 have to start on the table.
My plan was to put 3 squads in 3 fliers, with 2 characters joining 2 of those squads. So that makes 8 units in reserve, and 2 on the table.
In order to make that happen, I would need 16 units in total!
6 extra units is not an option for me, pointwise.
But I figured that the 2 empty fliers can still always pick up the squads that were supposed to be in it!
So no worries guys

A unit + its dedicated transport is classed a single unit for the reserves count.
So you can feasibly only require 1 unit on the field ( or 1 unit w/ character.)
If that helps? (Or I read it wrong... I don't know xD)

Okay, let me try to plan this out using the above rule. A, B, and C are clones. 1, 2, and 3 are the gunships. Jokaero are X, the Vindy is Y, and your characters are 9 and 0.
One way would be to assign A, B, and C dedicated transports ( 1, 2, and 3, respectively). This brings your unit count to seven. Assume half is greater, and you have X, Y, 9, and 0 beginning the game on the table. Possible.
Another way is to assign 1 to squad A, and give them either 9 or 0 to start the game. You have 2 and 3 empty in reserve, along with 1 and its occupants (for a total of four units). That leaves you B and C starting, along with X, Y and whoever you didn't put in the ship with A (five units). This still follows the half-or-more rule.
Third is a variant on the last one. In addition to A and 1, B or C could be assigned to 2 or 3. That gives you a total unit count of eight. Half would be A and B/ C in reserve in their dedicated transports, along with 3 and 9 or 0 with one of the squads. You now have your third clone squad, plus X and Y, plus either 9 or 0 on the field.
Hopefully you find this helpful! Good luck on getting things sorted out.

Hmmm, Interesting.
But if a Gunship with troops in it plus a character is 1 unit?
then my problem is solved.
My plan was this:
Gunship + Clones + Jedi(Libby) = 1 unit for reserves
Gunship + Arc troopers + clone commander(Coteaz) = 1 unit also
Gunship + Clones = 1 unit
Jokaero = 1 unit
Vindi = 1 unit
Total of 5 units when counting reserves.
So I can start with the Jokaero and the vindi = 2 units on the table, leaving 3 units in reserve.
Did I do this right?

Close. Characters are their own units (hence Independent Character), so your Jedi and Coteaz would make it 5 units in reserve with two on the table.
43229
Post by: Ovion
You don't count fliers at all. So 10 total units (3 flyers, 3 Clones, 2 IC, 1 Jokaero, 1 Vindi) If the 3 Flyers are Dedicated Trasnports, then the 3 units that take and start in them are counted as a single unit with them. Making it 3 Flyers + 4 other. The 3 Flyers don't count towards the reserves count though, meaning you have 4 units that do, meaning you have to start the game by deploying 2 units. One assumes the Vindi and Jokaero
6370
Post by: Develain
Ok.
But that still means 1 character has to begin on the table.
Making that: Deploying 3 units: jok. vindi and Jedi
reserves 3 clone squads + 1 character in 3 fliers?

The trick is generally thinning your paints down a bit with water and doing multiple, thin layers.
That or using an air gun.

Post by: Develain
rtb01 wrote:

Foundation paint was the trick for the white armour here.
As 1 layer already gives you a good base layer, then to finish it off with a thin layer over it to get a nice even coverage.
But what Ovion says is also a must. But using too much water doesn't work though.

Unfortunately no. There is a maximum time I want to spend on these vehicles Making Doors with hinges is just too much, and I don't even know if I could pull it off though hehe.
43229
Post by: Ovion
It wouldn't be that hard to do.
A hinge would only need to be 1 cylinder slotted into another cylinder, attached to each surface with an arm connecting the 2 hinges, then probably magnets to hold it open / closed.
Just magnetising the doors might do it though.
6370
Post by: Develain
Thanks for the advice Ovion.(knew I was getting it. haha)
It is fine like this. I mean the whole is a succes already. But there is a point for me to just stop with a conversion.
I mean Icould have added hinged doors, LED's and a small jukebox inside for soundeffects (seen that once fo real )
But that's maybe for future projects.. maybe. ( the jukebox thinghy will never happen though )

why do I look at threads like these? They make my armies look so bad I cant look at them for weeks because of how ashamed of them I am...

Interesting conversion for the melta-gun. Looks much better with the Star Wars aesthetic.

I chopped of the barrels and replaced them with my current melta gun barrels.
Here is the result. On the left old, right is the new barrel. Way better if you ask me:
Wow, these models are so cleverly produced. And yes, the gun on the right looks better

Nice looking sniper there. What gun are you going to give for the actual rifle.

Re: reserve rules, as all the posts on that topic have been wrong in some way:
You don't count units that have to start in reserve. This means that your three fliers don't count for reserve, but they are not dedicated, so whatever you put inside them still counts. You have 7 other units, which means 4 have to start on the table.
Very impressive modelling and painting

Ok I got that I have 7 units for the matter of counting reserves.
But I thought 3 was enough to start with, as it's rounded up right?

Finished Sniper:
I don't have the feeling I gave this model all that I got IMO. Can't put my finger on it, what it's missing, but it's good enough though.
Here you go:
Arc troopers are reaching completion too. And Commander Fordo aswell!
More on that later!

Excellent work! Maybe you should make an AT-TE? I've always loved those walkers, and might help you with your reserves woes!

Hehe, no AT TE for this army.
As I said, the army is already built, so there is no room for more units lol.
Anyway, here are the Arc troopers sans Fordo ( I can't get a good picture of him, the reds aren't coming out right :s, tomorrow I will try again with daylight )
Got a little distracted though by this dude:
Didn't really like the Sword-arm. So I took another arm from a diff. Sm kit and after some cutting and filing, I got this new arm pose.
Much better IMHO.
OH! All the Clone troopers are finished now! Fordo was the last one, you will see him tomorrow.
And after him I will make a total clone trooper shot.

Army built or not, I still say you should make an AT-TE because they're epic!
Also, nice work on the librarian; glad to finally see some Dark Vengeance stuff on Dakka!

About the droids. I got some necron warriors from a friend. Chopped them up and they are going to be wrecked super battle droids on the Gunship bases:
And here is the Army shot so far: CLONE TROOPERS!
Next update will pobably take a while as all that is left is the Gunships, and highlighting that is a son of a

Know what?
*Exalted!
These models are THAT well done!
The PROBLEM with these models is precisely what's so cool about them.
If you try to use these models at a GW store or event, they're going to try to kick you out (unless one of the judges has seen this blog). There's no way they'll believe these things started life as GW models. They're THAT good.
Maybe you should print out and take some of your WIP shots with you, if you ever go to something "official" GW. LOL

As MagickalMemories stated earlier, it'll be hard to go to any offical event with these guys! The gunships are prob only thing that looks like they could be GW parts, though they are all great models! Automatically Appended Next Post: We do need jetbikes though!
