Rather than go off topic on my other project blogs I have decided to create this thread so I can upload one off projects and pictures that aren't related to my other main blogs.
First up I am going to have a dabble at Dark Eldar and the first model I have done is the Slith, I really liked this model and spent a couple of hours painting him for a local store painting comp. Didn't win the painting comp but I am still pleased with how he turned out. C&C as always welcomed, without further a do here are the pics;
I was inspired with the colour scheme by a fellow Dakkite Mechanicum Jon who has built and painted an awesome Turquoise Dark Eldar Army. Thanks Jon!
I have been given the task of making the trophies for my local gaming club "The Angry Badgers" for our new tournament "Badger Brawl". There are two trophies of marines with lightning claws and Badger heads. I have been attempting to sculpt the badger heads and now have a new found respect for sculptors! Here are my efforts;
Dare I ask for C&C?!? Not my best work but I am hoping once they are painted up they will look ok! At the moment I think they look more like rats!!
Thanx GiraffeX, it is just a few members playing if it goes well, which it prob will we will open it up to the public next time. It's on the 7th of July in Andover, shall I give you a shout if someone drops out.

Yeah you can do as long as the venue is within walking distance of the train station it wont be an issue.

What points are you playing?
It's1750 but I just heard there are no spare places, I'll let you know next year!
HAZZER wrote:Hi,
just subbing... Btw could you put up how you did your white on the deathguard test peice?
Ok Hazzer but I'll put it up in the Death Guard blog next model I do.
So, latest update! I have started work on an Ultra Marine standard bearer as an entry for golden demon. Just got some basic colours on at the moment and even those need a lot more work but here he is for you to have a look at;
I also purchased some Space Wolf Tanks of a friend at my local gaming club, paid £55 for all three and two of them were nicer than I expected! I have drilled out the barrels now and I'm going to set about tidying them up a bit in general but overall I am impressed with what I got for the money.
First up the Land Raider Crusader;
Next a Razorback from Forge World with the Extra Armour kit too;
Finally a standard plastic Razorback with Heavy Bolters, not as well painted but I'll get on to that soon;
I also bought this little beauty! £35 inc delivery on Ebay saving £15 off the retail never mind the extra 12% Forge World charge for delivery!
Also in my latest spending spree I bought another friends Grey Knight army for £50, I got a Dread Knight and 15 Terminators one of which is made up to be a Librarian, again a bargain. All unpainted as well which is nice!

Now I understand about the hilights...Could you PM me the recipe and I'll send you mine? (the armour I mean).
THIS MEAN'S WAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. I'll se you in the finallists section for GD...
Very deep and vibrant Reaper... love the way the fig is coming along. I have two of those LRs myself... looking forward to getting the time to work on them.
Gitsplitta wrote:Very deep and vibrant Reaper... love the way the fig is coming along. I have two of those LRs myself... looking forward to getting the time to work on them.
Thanks Gits, I'm hoping to keep updating as I go along so any helpful points along the way would be much appreciated. I know it is difficult to comment properly until I am near completion.
Well here is a promised update, did a little more today;
Rear view;
I have also built and kit bashed a Death Watch marine for Graven's competition;
This image is a little bit blurry but it shows where I removed the blood angles symbols and sculpted an Inquisitorial I;
I tried to convey movement in this model like he is bringing his weapon up for a snap shot! Any comments? I have got a little servo skull which I might add too, what do people think too much going on or even cooler?
Latest update then! I have been assembling my Space Wolves and finished most of them this morning. I am going to undercoat them this afternoon and then brake out the airbrush and see if I can have them painted by the end of the week, though I haven't built the Drop pod yet (as I remember they can be a bit of a pain!).
So some pics pre undercoating, oh and some of the guys are waiting for their bolters and melta guns until I paint their chests!
Wolf Guard Terminators;
I really don't like the Logan Grimnar model so I made my own to represent him;
Green stuff sculpt on the axe, I know I still need to fill in the blood angels tear drops!
Arjac;
Njal
Grey Hunters, 2 squads;
I am proud of this conversion for a Melta Gun;
Wolf Scouts;
Some left overs used to make some Plasma Gunners and a Long Fang with a missile launcher, though I do need to find him another arm!
Well keep watching to see how these come along, I'll update as I go!
Gitsplitta wrote:Fantastic looking army Reaper! Well done man.
Thanks Gits.
GiraffeX wrote:A new army, wasnt expecting that. The wolves are looking great, looking forward to seeing them painted up.
I know what with Golden Demon looming and all, I bought these guys a month and a bit ago from Dark Sphere and wanted to add some more but Dark Sphere no longer deliver GW products in the UK! I am sure G are behind this move, I am really getting quite pissed off with GW and I am one of their fans and an ex employee who isn't bitter!
On another note I just had to take some more pics of Arjax after I had seen to him with the liquid green stuff, he was a really poor mould!
By comparison Njal Stormcaller was no trouble at all!
I have a fine hatred of Finecast every mini I've bought has had issues. I notice that his "ahem" rear armour plate is actually missing the corner, a problem I had with a whole box of Plague Marines.
A point to note in this warm weather do not keep Finecast mini's in cases as the resin bends to fit. After taking my Plague Marines out this weekend I have one who's bolter can now shot round corners
If your after a good discounted webstore try http://www.triplehelixwargames.co.uk/ 20% discount, I've been using these guys for a few months and they are really good went down to them yesterday and the owner is a great guy.
It is a shame because Dark Sphere give even better discounts but if they can't deliver I shall have to look elsewhere! I do find fine cast easier to trim etc but the overall quality of white metal was better.
Some very good news for me to share with you all, my wife and I are expecting a little girl in December! Might be the death of my hobby though.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I really hate building drop pods! Awfull model to put together!
Automatically Appended Next Post: No more pics today I am afraid, maybe tomorrow. I have had the airbrush out tonight and a lesson I have learned is don't use foundation paints in an airbrush! It came out fine onto the models but cleaning the airbrush was a nightmare! Then I started on the yellow for the shoulder pads and it was to thin, so fired all that out and tried again and it was to thick! Then the compressor over heated so I decided to call it a night!
How did I miss this?!? congratulations reaper !!
Space wolves are looking lovely too. (not.sure if lovely is the right word to use for feral space superhumans, but whatever)
On another note I have had my first Iphone and Ipad game published in the app store! It's called Jet Ranger 2, its 69p and I am well pleased that it was accepted. Check it out if you can, no android release I am afraid:(
prototype_X wrote:Nice! That sounds awesome... Unfortunately I'm a bit of an android freak so I don't own any apple products cant download it. But I would if I could!
Thanks prototype! It is quite a nice little game maybe aimed more at kids than adults but hey I have an app for sale!! Unfortunately I did it using a third party app, Sketch Nation, which limits the control I have and so far they don't have any plans for android release :(
HAZZER wrote:Are these for he or a new army if so I can see a new blog!!! Like the logan count as modle very good...
Hi Hazzer, the Wolves are a new small army I am doing, meant to be a quick paint for gaming. I have however been quite distracted of late as I am painting a wall of the nursery with a mural! There is a big tree in a forest that fairies are living in and it is quite a big project so eating up a lot of my time! Might post a picture once I'm a bit further along! Ps Hazzer, what is he? as in "are these for he"?
Update! I've been working on my Golden Demon entry today and I have made some progress. He is by no means finished but I would still welcome any comments and critisisms.
I'll let eh pictures speak for themselves;
Thanks Gits! I must admit I am having trouble with the front of the banner, I actually would have preferred free handing the entire thing! I have now added "Virtute et Armis" to the main scroll on the banner which translates to "By Courage & By Arms" well at least I hope that it what is says lol! Any suggestions to help improve it?
Oh right! Never seen that before but I have just posted it on the Angry Badgers gaming club facebook page announcing it as our new theme song! It is a little repetitive though.
Did a little more with the banner and the bolter but it is time for bed as I am back to work tomorrow Here are the photos for your opinions;
I'm not very pleased with the bolter and it may well get re-painted! The banner is also annoying me but at least I have got more of it done! Come on all you readers, stop lurking and let me know what you think.
monkeytroll wrote:Very nice. Damn, did I just say that about a smurf? Must have been the other stuff in here that I commented on
That's a lovely blue you've got on the armour, nice depth too it.
The only thing that I can comment on s that his right shin pad doesn't seem as smoothly shaded as the rest ?
Yes now I look at the pictrue it could do with some more blending, I'll get straight on it when I get home from work. Thanks!
lipsdapips wrote:These are some neat projects! Definitely Subscribed!

WOW!!!!Looking good reaper! The freehand is looking nice too! I can knida agree with you on the re painting of the bolter looks too shiny for me or could be the refection... Perhaps if your up to it some leafs around its head?!?
Thanks for the vote of confidence Gits. He took a little longer than expected a took time away from my Demon entry but I am quite pleased with how he turned out.
Gitsplitta wrote:Not a vote of confidence my friend, an acknowledgement of excellence... and well deserved.
Awww thanks Gits.
HAZZER wrote:So are you doing the whole hounor guard squad for gd?
Nope just the banner bearer in the single miniature category.
GiraffeX wrote:Yeah I agree with Git's that's a very nice DW marine. The highlighting is spot on and a very nice deep red.
Thanks Giraffex, I can't decide whether to add him to my old Death Watch Squad I did about 10 years ago or add him to my DA army as a returning sergeant who hasn't had his armour repainted yet.
Hi reaper just anouther question as you know I'm running behind but I have nearly finished the bule armour on my guy after alot of sculpting!!!! I have got a plan for painting laid out and stuff but im not that happy with the finish, would you suggest adding a wash??? (I added a 50 50 regal bule abdon black wash after my base coat). Thanks,
I would but I dont really want to 'go live' as such onto the web untill its finished, im taking some photos along the way and have drawn plans and everything and would hate somebody to copy me with the unique design and win... Thanks anyway tho....
In which case then hazzer I would do more washes, not necessarily the Gw washes. Take regal blue and water it down on your pallet until it is as thin as a wash and then apply so it pools a bit in the cracks and creases and let it dry, after it has dried then apply another highlight to the medium and top layers. Keep going until you are happy with the fade up to your top highlight.
monkeytroll wrote:Everything looking sweet there Reaper. Can't think of anything that'll add to that.
That facing on the stand doesn't look quite square, but I'm guessing you'll pay attention to that sort of thing beforehand.
Will the rock be on grass or other rocks or something else?
With regards to the facing I just plonked him on there to get the idea so I will straigten him up for actual submission.
prototype_X wrote:That looks stunning! I'm loving it, but if you want me to be nitpicky, the red of the bolter seems a little flat.
I love it alot, and am deeply envious of your skills
Thanks for the compliment, I have since free handed an eagle on the bolter and I will be highliting it a bit further, also I'll try and highlight the book on the banner a bit more too.
Thank you for the comments, everyone else feel free to let me know too as it is really helpful.
Thanks GiraffeX, just hope I can impress the judges at the Demon.
I did a bit more work on him last night I'll post another pic up tonight when I get back from work.
Bombed out in the Golden Demon, i didn't even make the cut to finalists. I must admit I was a bit dissapointed not to get anywhere but I did get some feedback from one of the heavy metal painters which was helpfull. I will upload some photos of the final model tomorrow. Must try harder next year!
Thanks for the conciliation sentiments GiraffeX. Here are some pics of the model as I submitted him. I got some pointers from the Heavy metal team and I may well work on him further and paint the rest of the squad to enter him next year. Without further a do here are the pics;
Gitsplitta wrote:Beautiful work Reaper... Golden Demon or not. There's a lot to be proud of there.
Thanks Gits, I do really like him and there seemed to be a certain cleaner style that the judges were looking for, a much lighter finish to the highlights. I suppose I will have to adjust my painting if i want to go further in the Demons. It has been years since I have made the cut. I do have four entries that made the final and my Elesians only just missed a demon, I was on the shelf below the winners that year so in the top 12 - 15 guys that year.
Eiríkr wrote:Aye! It's stunning, to be honest. May I ask as to what the 'Eavy Metal chap said to you?
The heavy metal guy said to highlight the blue up much higher, almost to white. He told me to use silver mixed into the gold to bring that up higher and then finish off with a very thin highlight of mithril silver to make the gold pop more. On the reds he suggested a top highlight of blazing orange. He was impressed with my free hand and really liked the lettering on the banner. So really he was just saying it was too dark. Problem is I was going for that, it is the grim darkness of the future after all! Anyway it isn't like I can't fix those things so better things next time I enter!
GiraffeX wrote:Yeah that really is stunning, very impressed.
Thanks GiraffeX, all compliments are graciously recieved here!
Any way I have uploaded a few images from games day that I thought were cool so here they are;
My favourite pic of the day! Me with a Demon!
This was Awesome! Words can not describe how cool this display at the Forge World stand was!
Some other random shots
Overall I had a great day, nice to see some old friends. I got to hold an actual Demon statue even if it wasn't mine. Next year I swear!
Unlucky reaper! Tho you did far better than mine... I ended up painting anouther mini a week before cause i rewined the other one.. Oh and one other question how did you get into the FW deisplay thing? Was it on during the senemaris or somthing? I was wandering were to go fro the whoe day!!!!
Hazzer, the Forge World area was outside the main arena down the right hand side by a set of doors, they had a lot of display cases and that big diorama. It was almost under the seating of the main arena.
Have you put up a photo of your entry?

No probs Gits always nice when we post up some stuff from our events, I always like your adepticon stuff.
monkeytroll wrote:Ahh shame Reaper.
Pity they seemed to be looking for a lighter look, I like the dark mood of yours, even if it is a smurf
Looks like there was plenty of eye-candy to look at though, thanks for sharing.
Oh well I'll be back next year hopefully with more entries!
Just picked up the Dark Apostle model and bought the i Chaos Codex. I can't say I am a big fan of the codex as I am finding it hard to find all the relevant rules. Expensive too at £30.
I am also finding that I have bought some wrong combinations of my pre heresy death guard which is frustrating.
I really hate it when you kit something out then find out its wrong or they've changed it.
I should get my codex in the post tomorrow, I believe I will need to paint up lots of lord models as I ran mostly daemon princes under the old codex as HQ's with no basic marines.
You can still have Daemon Princes as HQs, I'm feeling a post Heresy Death guard Army Coming on soon but I need to tidy up some other projects first. Typhus and the Nurgle Daemon Prince are both already in my possession.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I am looking for some Nids, preferably going cheap, I need Termagaunts, Hive Guard and Tervigons. Anyone got any they would be willing to part with?
Been working on my Space Wolves today, made a bit of progress. Had a disaster with the air brush, tried to persist on three models before I finally gave up. These are the three models and my subsequent rescue attempt on the paint jobs. All still wip at the moment but you can see what I've been up to.
Some basic colours at this stage;
Now with a bit more detail on them;
That is it for today, hopefully some more progress tomorrow!
My word Reaper! Thanks for pointing me towards this blog, its managed to totally slip past me till now! Its awesome stuff! That ultramarine really is beautiful, my envy for your freehand is off the chart!
Your airbrushing doesn't look as much like a salvage job after an airbrush failure as you suggest, It look very impressive, nice and clean. Must make a note to buy myself an airbrush, it's clearly a very good investment.
I want to see your post heresy death guard, you will do them so much justice!
Gitsplitta wrote:Pardon me for asking, but what was the airbrush issue?
Hi Gits! I was trying to use Ulthran Grey but I think I got a bad pot as it was all lumpy and I could not get it smooth enough no matter how much thinner I put in it. So it had a tendency to splatter and clog very quickly. Kept adding more flow enhancer with each new model until I finally gave up. Took about five hours to get them to this stage after the cock up.
J-paint wrote:My word Reaper! Thanks for pointing me towards this blog, its managed to totally slip past me till now! Its awesome stuff! That ultramarine really is beautiful, my envy for your freehand is off the chart!

Glad you dropped in J-paint, I always find it helpful to look at some one else's efforts on a similar army when I am painting. I am champing at the bit to start the post Heresy Death Guard but I am suffering from too many projects at the moment so they are on hold for now! As for the Ultra Marine, I am just taking a little break before I go back to him and have a go at "finishing him off" with the feedback I got from the heavy metal painter at Games Day. Still a bit gutted he didn't make then cut.
I honestly think that with a few higher highlights like he suggested you definitely will, Its stunning. Its a shame you have to paint in their style to get a chance of winning though, I am with you in painting a bit darker because in the grim darkness etc I wouldn't have thought every single character would be followed around by an intense lighting crew.
Thanks J-paint, I'm now looking forward to next year!
Here is my new Space Wolves Captain with Thunder Hammer & Storm Shield, He has been kit bashed for Nerdfest's Golden Bath Tub competition but I thought I may as well make a model for one of my current projects killing two birds with one stone.
I'm hoping to get some paint on him today as the deadline for the comp is looming!
Well time for an update on what I've been up to over the past couple of days! Lots of Nids..... I will post up pics in a vague order showing how they have progressed.
First I did a fleshy main coat on all the termigants I had at the time of painting (more have arrived since).
Here is an example, I did about 70 of these guys just like this;
Did the same for the ripper swarms, 6 bases of these;
Also the hive guard;
I got a Carnifex in an army I bought of a mate, he has had the flesh coat too;
The two tervigons also got a flesh coat, first the green one;
and the Blue one;
I then got the red out and did the next areas on all these;
Then a thin layer of Payne's Grey was washed over the models giving this result;
Decided to do the Termigants in units of 18 in different colours;
Did some blue ones too;
and then started to hand brush a set of green ones, still got 8 more to do. The airbrush is way quicker but I couldn't face cleaning it again tonight!
Also put some of the red on the Tyragon;
So as you can see I haven't been slacking and there is way more to do. I have got everything second hand so far which has saved me a minor fortune but there have been lots of repairs to do and some of the paint was quite heavy but I don't want to spend ages on this so I haven't cleaned flash and mould lines, this is purely a tournament army painted as quick as possible. I will tie them all in by basing them the same. A huge army already but I still want three more Tervigons and some more Hive Guard! I think I have enough Termigants should have around 160 when all my ebay purchases roll in!
Gitsplitta wrote:Those browns are beautifully down Reaper. What's your technique?
The base is one of the new flesh colours, I'll look it up when I get home. Then just a light wash of Payne's Grey. Very quick! The only one above that hasn't had that is the Trygon which was already that colour on the fleshy bits off ebay.
cormadepanda wrote:nice work mate it looks well done
I like the flesh tone, not sure on the different colored carapace. I'll wait for you to finish before passing judgement, as I'm sure you have further details and tricks up your sleeves.
Also your trygon isn't a trygon at all, it's a malock (spelling?).

I agree with WM it's a cool idea, but at the moment it looks like 3 seperate armies, I shall also wait until completion, for you'll probably do something awesome that brings me round to it.

The problem I have is that I am running a list with 4 or 5 Tervigons and need around 150
Termegants and it is very difficult with all the spawning units two tell which is in which unit when they are all the same colour. I also thought that was a Trygon because it had the eltric spines on it's back and is a different shape to my mawlock. I haven't built one i bought both second hand so I have never seen the instructions!
I need some opinions from you all! I have too many projects on the go at the moment and I thought you could all vote for what you would like me to concentrate on first.
Emperor's Wings Chapter
Necrons
Nids
Cadians
Space Wolves
Pre Heresy Death Guard
Warhound Titan
Respond below to vote, i have also asked my gaming group on facebook we'll see what the results are......
Well, titan always sounds cool, but I would like top see where the death guard are going. But I think most of all I want to see some very shiny doom scythes Really want to see what they look like all chromed up.
Well, seeing as everyone else have voted for different things, I'll keep up the trend. I vote space wolves... I love the models, and the character someone like you could pull off is insane!
well so far I have one vote for everything except Imperial Guard! (Here and on Facebook)
monkeytroll wrote: Well, titan always sounds cool, but I would like top see where the death guard are going. But I think most of all I want to see some very shiny doom scythes Really want to see what they look like all chromed up.
While I was waiting for the vote I did some shiny doom scythes and a Doomsday Arc! Check my Necron blog in my sig but for those who can't be bothered here is the latest update!
So, been a while since I have posted. Made a decision to do some more of my guard for a while. I have played a few games with them recently and I'm really getting back into them. Been buying a few bits and bobs on Ebay the best thing I have bought is an old Forge World Baneblade, I paid just under £70 including postage! Only thing is that the Heavy Bolter sponsons are missing but I am hoping I can convert some to fit. Here is a pic of the Baneblade next to my Stormlord to show scale. I have got the tracks but just didn't put them in the picture.
I'll update some pictures of the guard I have done and any wips going on at the moment. As usual I'll keep you up to date with any progress aswell. So look forward to some awesome guard, I have a bit of a thing for super heavies as the above pic hints so there should be plenty of tanks!
Hi
Loving your work so far cat wait to see more love the necrons btw lovly glowing effects got my GD entry up on my blog. possabily fisrt time back on dakka for months!!! Btw blog has had update….
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/810/357188.page
I am afraid there are no pics to accompany this update but I have been busy! I am nearly finished making the models for this years 40k squad Golden Demon entry! I am doing the Nurgle terminators from forge world. They have turned into probably the most expensive squad I have ever made but it will be worth it, lets just say they are all resin from Forge World, legs, arms and weapons. I have been buying a bit more Dark Angels stuff too and building that, a Nephlim fighter is now pretty much made but not painted. I also bought a huge Ork army off Ebay so that is another possible you might see a few bits from on here, but my ork codex hasn't arrived yet so not sure how to go with it! Any suggestions for an Ork 1850 pts tournament army would be gladly received, I have started a thread in the 40k armies forum if you feel it is more appropriate to respond there!
GiraffeX wrote: Sounds exciting, looking forward to the pics.
Which legs did you use for the nurgle terms?
I'd guess on tartaros, likely some post heresy death shroud. Which I really want to see.
The legs I used were mainly cataphractii but for the champion I got a pair of pre heresy Death Shroud legs. Nearly finished the models now and some extra bits arrived from forge world today. It's slow going with the baby but I should have some pics up by the end of the weekend!
Right, as promised here are the models I am entering for Golden Demon this year. I think they may need a bit more work but I'm nearly ready to start adding paint!
I give you the Death Guard Terminators, the most expensive unit I have ever made!
Gitsplitta wrote:You know... I like them as is. Really. I think they're a fine looking and interesting unit. Wouldn't change a thing.
Well thanks gits, real compliment coming from you. Looking forward to getting some paint on them!
GiraffeX wrote:They look fantastic Reaper, was it easy getting the shoulder pads on?
Thanks GiraffeX, the shoulder pads were a bugger and it was heart breaking cutting off the cataphractii pads but it all looks so nice it was worth it. I can't bring myself to calculate how expensive this unit was!
HAZZER wrote:Look really nice reaper! Also do you have any tips on painting faces? My sarges face looks terrible!
Thanks HAZZER, as for your serg's face, I'll pop on your thread and have a look. Usually I work up from a dark brown (excuse the old paint names I'm not up to date yet) like scorched brown up to bronzed flesh with a couple of washes inbetween layers. Eyes are usually black dot, white dot black dot. If you know what I mean!
Top tip Hazzer, allow some of the layer underneath to still show though and paint the lighter mix in a thinner layer, by that i mean cover less of the model not make your paint thinner. Use light washes to blend the effect.
So managed to get some stuff done in between baby duties, bought a massive Ork army off Ebay from a very nice chap. I'm playing an escalation campaign starting at 500 pts and scaling up from there so decided to try the orks out and thought hey I had better get some paint on a few of them!
A load all trimmed with barrels drilled;
Storm Boyz
Lootas and a burner boy
Boyz
Command dudes
Gretchin with a Runt Herd
So got this far in two days, I'm quite pleased with myself!
Yes they are! They can make quick work of a horde style army.
I played my first game as Orks last weekend, 500pts to start, scaling up each round. I was up against Necrons and managed to prevail mainly due to the Warboss who was awesome!
Here is the list I used, amazing what you can get for 500pts!
He played with a Destroyer lord tooled up mind shackle scarabs etc, 3 Tomb spiders, 4 bases of Scarabs I think and a unit of 10 warriors.
He conceded on turn 4 as he only had 7 warriors left! All in all great fun for my first time with the Orks, just wish Mythreal would get on and deliver my order so I can make some Dakka Jets and not proxy with a Stormtalon!
Excellent outing for your first time. The ork dex is one of the best written that GW's ever done. Not over-powered... but it's had consistently good builds (and several of them) throughout it's life time. You'll have a lot of fun with it.
Tbh for me theres only one build that I will do with orks, it DA WWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nice start to an ork army. Always love another green skin. there are several donzen builds in the codex still viable because the meta does not work with hordes. Orks basically cut out their own nitch with that fact. The only race Orks have a hard hard match up against in my opinion is tyranids.
Well it has been a while since I have posted on any of my blogs. I've just been up to a little something tonight and thought I would share it with you all just to prove I haven't died or anything! RL has really been getting in the way I am afraid but we all know how that gets some times.
Ok been doing some work on a Gandalf model, it is going to be a gift so a good reason to just sit down and crack on with it. I still have to do some more work on it but I'm quite happy with the results so far.
Aside from this I have built a few more orks and undercoated them. I have also made a bit of progress on my Demon entries for this year but I am keeping them under wraps until after the comp.
So done a bit of secret painting for Demon but not getting the time to really make major headway. Other 40k projects are a bit on hold at the mo. I did just pick up a Ten Thunders Crew for Malifaux, some very nice models but the detail is so delicate I'm going to have to be careful when painting them. Might get to them at the end of the week, depends how real life goes!
Just a mini update! did some greenstuff on the bases of my Ten Thunders Crew, took quite a while, I would probably buy pre done ones in the future! Here is a pic;
There is actually quite a bit of paint on the models now but I'll show you a finished pick when they are done!
I don't usually put anything really negative up on my own blog but I am really hacked off! This is for the british readers on here, never use either Total Wargamer or Mythreal for mail order as I have been waiting 2 months for models and they took the money off me on the day I ordered! They just keep saying they are having delivery problems and I never get any models! I will be using Dark Sphere from now on as they have always been brilliant! Ok rant over I should post some pics of models soon, nearly done the Ten Thunders gang and it isn't long to games day when I will reveal my entry for Golden Demon!
I had the same problem with Armorcast... took my money day one... no models 8 weeks later. Never answered a single e-mail. I finally got them on the phone.. gave them two weeks to fulfill the order or I'm canceling.
I agree Gits, very dissapointing. I don't mind if there is some communication and a valid reason but this isn't the first time and I have just had enough!
On a positive note my Word Bearer army is on the front page!
Had a great weekend last weekend! Went to colours in Newbury last Sunday, bought a big batch of models from Anvil Industries & met the team behind it. Really nice guys and some great models. I also had quite a bit of success in the painting comp! Three first places! Result!

Thanks Guys! I have to apologise to those who have subscribed to my thread it has all gone very quiet but a combination of having a new born and painting an entry for Golden Demon has meant not a lot else has been going on over the past couple of months. I promise the wait will have been worth it though! My entry will hopefully blow you away, as well as the Demon judges I hope! Well Demon is only a week on Sunday & I will post some pics up for you then!
Ok so survived Golden Demon! finished painting at 4:45 am and had to get up at 6:30, so not much sleep! I made the final cut and was at the top of the winners cabinet but no Demon, prob hit the top 6 in my cat. Well you are probably all dying to see my entries so without further a do here are the pics!

So I hope you all like the eye candy! A lot of effort went into this and is the main reason you haven't seen much from me recently (oh and baby Reaper as she shall now be known, thanks Graven!). I hope I have dazzled you a little.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh yes I also hit over 1000 images uploaded on Dakka!
Outstanding amigo, and well done indeed. I'd seen some dodgy pics from a mate that I thought might've been your work, and they didn't remotely do them justice. Well played sir, well played.
Wow reaper those are stunning! Really really well done, the streaked method of painting the green looks exceptional! And the conversions alone deserve a trophy!
Thanks for all the comments guys! I am quite pleased with them but still had a few more things I wanted to touch up but it was nearly 5am and I had to be up at 6:30 to get to Games Day!
Jpaint, i tried a new method of painting with the streaks and I think it worked well with the nurgle theme. Got some good feedback from two of the judges on how to improve my entries further.
I took loads of wip pics is there any interest in a tutorial?
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh I forgot to ask, could people throw a few votes on some of the pics? Thanks!
Here are some pics of the finished minis, I can see me doing a bit more touching up here and there but essentially that's it. Won best painted crew, first equal unfortunately but still got a prize which is always cool. Had a great time at the tournament too. There was a film crew there from the local uni filming everything which was a little intimidating! Anyway here are the pics!
Thanks Guys! I have just been photographing some of my Blood Bowl teams for a Facebook page so thought I would show you guys a few pics too. You may have already seen these but they are better quality photos!
So been up to a few things over the last week and a bit! Played in a 2 day blood bowl tournament the weekend before last, had the worst luck ever! lost 5 out of 6 games and was third from last! Luckily it was a team event and we came 5th, my casualties I caused did help.
I made a team for the event but didn't finish painting them. My new club, ARBBL has a pumpkin as their symbol. With that in mind I made a Nurgle team with pumpkin heads, here are a few pics of the wip.
The Warriors
The Pestigors
The Rotters
The Team
First colour
Nurgle Beast
Warrior wip
Nearly finished,
I have also been airbrushing my Deathwing Terminators, here are a couple of pics of them too,
Well that is pretty much everything, well there is a little update coming up in my Emperor's wings blog so pop over and check it out too.
Just love the Jack-o-lantern themed BB team! A man after my own heart! The paint on that warrior looks really good, even though you're still WIP at this point (though close to done). May I ask where you got your pumpkin heads?
Anvil Industries, though it was at a show and I can't find them on his ebay shop or his website. The skinny rotters came sculpted with the heads and are impact miniatures, I have a spare if you are interested.
I am just about to assemble an Iyanden wraith heavy army. I have two Wraithknights to put together, anyone got any tips or gotchas. I also want quite a dynamic pose and I am a little worried about gluing the joints as suggested in the instructions. Any help would be appreciated!
So been a while since I have been on this thread, I really should update more! Well exciting news, I have started work on a small commission for Whalemusic360. I have got most of the infantry assembled, just one techmarine to go and I will be starting work on them painting shortly. I will be producing 1000pts of Sons of Medusa and I will do updates and wip shots on this thread. So a few pics so you get the idea;
Master of the Forge and a techmarine

Oops left one out!
Tac Squad
Tac Squad 2
I am going to have a go with a test marine tonight will post the results soon.
Does it fit pretty flat on his back? Do the termi arms still fit? Those look a bit weedy as is (even in anatomically correct). Also, did you get the package I had sent with the harness?
Sounds like a plan. I think if you use the Termi arms, and cut off the ax blade part of the ax, it'll make a reasonable thunder hammer. Open to ideas on that though. His equipment is Servoharness and Thunderhammer, so that's pretty much what I'm looking for. Thoughts?
So the test model is finished, unless Whalemusic360 has any other suggestions. I am quite happy with the green, that helmet is not my favourite but I have some awesome models to work on with the rest of the force. Everything barring the Razor back and the thunderfire cannon is made and undercoated. The thunderfire cannon is fine cast and needs some work before I can get it to fit together and I have started interior detail on the Razorback that needs doing before I stick it together. Here a a couple of shots;
Thanks guys, the other helmets will probably be a bit more subtle. Should see a lot of progress shortly when I have assambled the last models then it will all slow down again as I set about detail work.
The bolter really ties it together as a SoM tank (though I suspect the bright green outside will too). Looks like it's been around the block a few times, I like it.
I'm glad you like it! I have also done the Rhino doors too so you can swap off the Razorback turret and make it a Rhino if you want so it is a bit more diverse for gaming.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and I also did a bit more on the test model on the advice of a friend, just a bit of brass to break up all the silver.
Killer, always like the easy swaps. Sounds solid on the brass. I understood the leaving lots of silver, give them that mechanical feel, but I think the brass will help break it up, as you said.
Are you using a Land Raider to hold the rhino for painting?
Right my fellow Dakkanaughts, I need some advice..... I have recently been given the opportunity to buy a web store off some friends of mine. Price aside (we haven't settled on that) is it worth me and my wife investing in. I have crunched some numbers and realised that it will be quite a lot of work for minimal return. It would only stock X-Wing and Magic (MTG) to start off and it seems very unlikely that we would be able to stock GW products or Wyrd's. So as I play Magic and X-wing I would see a personal discount on those items though my purchasing power has really been hit since the baby came along and the wife isn't earning so not that great a benefit. The site though established is not easily found on Google and it has some social media pages associated with it. About 55 followers on facebook. My friends are selling up as it has been too much work for them and there is three of them! It has always been an ambition of mine to own a store and this seems opportune but is the timing wrong and is it really a "for the love of it affair" rather than "make some money" as it initially seems? Opinions?
I'd say its not the right time for it the market is over saturated with webstores for Magic and miniatures in general at the moment.
There is really strong competition from the likes of Wayland Games, Firestorm Games and Triplehelix Wargames, Amazon also stock X-wing.
If you cant beat their prices then I don't see why people would use an unknown store, even if its Badger friendly (my guess)
I believe Weird and Corvus Bell only supply to shops with physical stores as well so you wouldn't be able to stock their games.
I've always wanted to run one my self and did have a MTG singles site but pulled out as the amount of money and time it takes to keep a shop running and updated is quite unbelievable.
In short just an online store I'd say no, physical store in the right location with online support then it could be possible but a lot of work.
I'd say very much what GX hit on. Obviously can't speak much on the uk market, but you'd be going against giants, a web store doesn't have the loyalty of a brick and mortar, and unless you can throw great prices out there, not a lot you can do to get online presence quickly.
Thanks guys, I really welcome your opinions. I think we could compete on price but probably not volume & there is no way in the forseeable future that we would ever have a bricks & mortar shop so that limits greatly what we can stock. I suspect we are going to pass on this opportunity.
Oh right! Lol, I thought that was part of the shoulder! No worries I shall trim that up. I can also make the gun more metal, not a problem. Yes those areas do scream for something more, do you want numbered squad markings?
So more progress this weekend! Almost finished the basics on the Rhino/Razorback. The Serg has had a few tweaks but not alot, mainly removing the bit that shouldn't have been there on the shoulder pad! So here are some pics let me know what you think.
Then I did the basic metals and the freehand on the Rhino doors. Let me know what you think Whalemusic360.
The Serg has had a bit of a tidy, here are some pics,
So let me know any feed back. Whalemusic, how far do you want m to go with weathering? As worn as the inside of the rhino/razorback?
Some more work done this weekend, started weathering the Rhino/Razorback. I also added the chapter markings in freehand. I'm going to add some more rust and probably some more larger chipped areas plus some freshers scrapes and chips. I also managed to black out the sections on the first squad ready for metal, flesh and the white.
Pics:
Excuse the lighting, I used an LED torch on the right side and it has washed out the colours somewhat.
Thanks guys! Been a busy week for me, I had a job interview on friday and had to revise quite a lot for it so no progress to report but I'll be back on it this week! I think my next personal project might have to be one of these,
Knight Castigator!
I also caught sight of this for the Wolves, very cool!
Ahhhh.. love your Marines .. great color choice. Castigator is the coolest knight so far!
As for the SW ... Flyer? I think this is a horrible design. I got it that they wanted it wolves head shaped, but it looks like that's all they used as a designed element!
So no real update on the Sons of Medusa but I am hoping to finish that first squad and the rhino this weekend, so heads up for WhaleMusic360. I have been playing with a little effects programme on my iPad, here are a couple of models i have enhanced!
Well I have very nearly finished the first squad and the Razorback, should finish them up tomorrow night. Here are a couple more pics to keep you updated!
