Hey guys. Third P&M blog I have going. They will be a quick easy scheme that I can get lots of progress done and make lots of updates! My Ultramarine blog takes forever because it takes forever to paint them and the GK have a similar story. That's why Archer Company of the Urban Regiment (a scheme I made of DOW: Dark Crusade) will be my latest project. I've ordered a Battleforce and i'll build and paint them up and we'll see what happens from there. Anyway, here are pictures of the Acher Company test model. (From an older battleforce my brother got a while ago, painted over a marine. I have taken a few lesser painted marines from that and plan to do a few more tests prior to the arrival of the battleforce.)
The battleforce (being internationally delivered) will take "up to 45 days" to arrive D: so thats a shame, but I have about 10 test models and a heavy bolter team test to get done before it arrives, so hopefully they can keep you guys entertained until then
Tell me what you guys think of the scheme, didnt take long to do at all and I think it looks quite nice
Updates on the way!

====++++UPDATED FLUFF++++==== (4/07/2013)
Archer Company are one of the most organised groups of guardsmen on Domitian. Domitian was an accommodation planet, containing massive cities filled with people, urban environments consumed almost the entire surface of the planet. It initially had a small planetary defence force, however, Domitian was besieged by a colossal fleet of Orks. The PDF signalled for reinforcements, and the emperor replied in all his might by sending millions of additional guardsmen to the planet. The orks resistance gradually became futile as they were all but wiped off the face of the planet. All remained well for a while, however the ork attack had sparked additional interests from 'foreign' parties. Merely months later, reports of hellish purple blue contortions of fire were made to the Main Urban Regiment HQ, and it eventually became obvious that Demons had arrived on Domitian. The Urban Regiment, specifically Archer Company repelled the attackers from Domitians primary hive city, Titus, for weeks. However, they gradually lost contact with other Companies and collectives of guardsmen dispersed around the planet. Once again, Domitian signalled for aid. No report. No reply. The imperium had abandoned Domitian.
Archer Company, being the main force left in Domitian, issued a planetwide distress signal informing all Imperial Forces of any design to make their way to Titus to form a gigantic bastion and savehaven for any civilians who had survived the two onslaughts on the planet. Over the following months, Archer Company and the remnants of the Planetary Defence Force welcomed thousands of survivors from attacks in different areas of the planet. Most were militarised, arriving via valkyrie, or in small battered convoys or Chimeras and other such war machines. Some simply arrived in massive collectives of foot soldiers, broken from the months of destruction they bore witness to as they made their way to Titus. In time, it had become clear that although millions had perished, large elements of the Urban Reigment still remained. Titus was a full militarised area, with hundreds of thousands of guardsmen patrolling it's borders. Despite the large numbers, they felt miniscule in comparison to the countless millions that once inhabited the planet. Every year the Urban Regiment would send out distress signals and seek aid from the imperium. It had been seven years since they were abandoned. Luckily for them, Domitian was self sustainable from within, with large food storages and production facilities and mines to gain minerals and metals to construct a makeshift manufactorum. Despite the self sustainability of Titus, The UR couldn't keep up with demands and every year they grew less and less capable of maintaining capable defences.
To this day the Urban Regiment keep their brittle, dim spark alive by fighting daily to keep hold of Titus, one of the greatest displays of Imperial heroism, that had tragically gone unnoticed by the imperium. The men of Titus, Archer Company and the Urban Regiment had become grizzled, experienced and hardened by battle. Outside of Titus, multiple enemies had established strongholds in other areas of the planet. The Orks to the West, Chaos to the North, Demons to the East and Gruesome masses of Tyranids inhabiting the rest. Countless assaults would be made on all sides of Titus from all sorts of enemies. The Urban Regiment had to be extremely careful to reacquire as much of their supplies from the dead as possible from their battles, as supplies were limited. Most remaining companies of the Urban Regiment had few remaining members from the original PDF or wave of reinforcements but many were conscripts and boys that grew into the force. Archer company however had a large quantity of guardsmen serving from 'the drop' all those many years ago. Although it had decreased in size over the years, Archer Company still had thousands of seasoned, battle hardened veterans prepared to fight for glory, Titus and their lives.
The uniforms and attire of the Urban Regiment were maintained as much as was possible. Many uniforms were completely intact. The soldiers had become used to fighting in dangerous close quarters against terrible foes and had mastered the art of street fighting, hit and run and ambushes.
The Urban Regiment had repelled hundreds if not thousands of assaults on their noble city, and to this day continue to defend their last glimmer of hope for saviour in the future. Every man, woman and child in Titus has some contribution to the war effort, and the men of Archer Company and the Urban Regiment refuse to surrender, refuse to embrace defeat and will go unnoticed despite being one the most heroic selections of guardsmen in the entire Imperium.
Blimey that was fun. I'll write some more fluff when I get the time. That was all written off the top of my head, but I hope y'all enjoyed anyway

Proto: Nah because these guys are MUUUUCH easier to do. The Tau guy took hours upon hours and these guys take like 30 minutes!
Anyways, finished up this signaller in no time at all. Can't wait for the battleforce to get here!

Really like the red in the camo =)

Nice job!
The camo is great. Dark and gritty. All that's missing is a little bit of weathering.
The bases are cool too. Subtle, yet detailed

Post by: lipsdapips
@Two Spartan thanks man, that's what I was trying to achieve. I wanted it dark but not so dark that it doesn't look good.
@Zambro. Pleased we share the same ideaologies man! Do you have any advice on how I should go in terms of weathering? Keep in mind I want these guys painted fast and look dull and subtle!
51376
Post by: Zambro
Maybe a bit of light drybrushing on and around the feet / ankles. A light drybrush of brown, followed by even lighter grey might work, seeing as your base is grey.

Okay! Lots to report
I was negociating with the store I purchased the IG battleforce from because there were a few problems, but I'm expecting the Battleforce to arrive in between 13 and 21 days, so I hope you're all looking forward to that as much as I am! Anyways, back at the station, I finished the heavy weapon team and have prepared myself for a project to do this weekend (and highly likely next weekend because i think ill run out of supplies). The bottom shelf of my display cabinet im going to glue the half of the modular hill to and base it the same way the IG has. This section of the the case will be dedicated to Urban Regiment! (and may even expand if need be ;P) So look forward to the juicy stuff coming!

@Veteran Sergeant That was the aim, and it's easy to paint too!
UPDATE TIME!
I have achieved alot since I last checked in. The battleforce arrived last week, I went to the new Auckland GW with Prototype and Knightley, where we painted and did our GMS's (Knightleys models are FANTASTIC by the way, the pictures, even though theyre great dont do the models justice). I purchased the Lord Commissar model on Friday and he has been completed as i'm at the bach and have a lot of free time to get things done. I bought the Command Squad and the commissar with me and have lots of juicy pics for everyone! I also purchased a blue glaze and have tried it on some parts and my first impression is that it is alot like a wash, but more exploration is to be done. Sorry some pics have flash and some are pretty bad, bach doesn't have the best picture taking facilities, but i'll see what outside is like tomorrow. Enough blab, onto the pics! Enjoy! The meltagunner is next.

Some nice painting here LDP, just one minor quibble for me; you haven't drilled the barrels of the guns out (sorry it's my pet hate!).
That said overall the finished paint jobs are very good and the bases while plain fit your theme well. Regarding the bases a bit more detail here could really finish the models nicely. I have sand bases on my IG and found that some light brown tufts (for dried scrub grass/plants) really helped make the models look finished. So its worth considering with your theme something similar with some random bricks to finish your models.
21254
Post by: lipsdapips
Notprop yeah I tried dead grass on one of the guys, it does make the composition more interesting but it takes away from the boggy cityscape effect im trying to create with the simpler style :\
Anyways update time! Was up at the bach these last couple of days and got a whole bunch of work done there (seems to up my production being there). So yeah in four days I painted four models and this entire Leman Russ.

NEW UPDATE! WAHOOOO
Kasrkin have been my favourite models for an age, YEARS literally. But their metalness had always put me off. But with some newly gathered miniatures experience added to the fact that I now have a guard army, I scooped em up! The 10 man squad, the 2 special weapon troopers and a metal commissar whose book arm I swapped out for a different one which I think looks pretty nice.
Sorry the pics are so bad, i'm not sure why that is, they looked nice when I took them. I may have to retake some later, but here's what I've got
Tell me what you think of the scheme!

Arrggh! Mold lines on the tank's plasma barrel! To quote Darth Vader- "NOOOOOooooooooo!!!" Don'cha hate that? What do you do though? File it off and re-paint or hope nobody notices. Normally I go with 'hope nobody notices'. Some jerk like me always does. I'm de-flashing my old school IG right now and it is such a chore. That old 80's plastic is really hard to file down.
I really like the conversions and the paint jobs. Clean, simple, great poses and full of character. The shading is great and you've really captured the grim, dark future thing. Love it. I'll be watching this thread.

I’ve not read their rules, so don’t know the details or if there is something odd going on, but would have picked a assault weapon for a shotgun squad.
I’m also a little curious what the second guy has on his back. He’s already got a shotgun out, so what’s peaking over his shoulder?

Sorry, I sort of falsely advertised a little. I've built a squad of lasgun vets already with plasmas and a missile team, and the other 2 are the only ones in my suicide squad so far (waiting on more shotguns you see), probably should have specified that
the other gun hes toting is just a lasgun incase i want to switch things up

Vets and scions look great, LDP! Love the drab paint scheme.

Looking good the new scion kit has so many bits in it. Are the other shotguns going to be different? Otherwise the whole squad may look a little samey. Only personal opinion. Looking forward to seeing more

How compatible are they with SM scout shotguns? The guns look the same-ish from this side of the computer. I’m pretty sure the SM scout bike kit has some holstered shotguns that could be strapped onto a backpack, even if the arms/hands don’t work.

This whole blog is fantastic!
The paint scheme really brings your Vets and Stormtroopers to life. Really nice conversion for the vets.
Do the Cadian legs work well with the Scion torsos, or is there some modelling magic going on?

@Moltar cheers mate!
@young_logan yea i went to the store yesterday planning to buy scout bikes and normal scouts for both legs and shotguns. They only had bikes though hence why i've only built 2 so far D: correct me if im wrong but the normal scouts kit has shotguns in it right?
@Nevelon yea ive got the scout bikes and am planning to use scout arms
@Medium of Death thanks a bunch man! Im afraid the scion torso and guard legs combo is rather annoying...the leg connection point is flat whereas the torso is concave...i put some putty into the recess then had to superglue the joint if that helps

Where did you get the shotgun?

Yeah the regular scouts have shotguns that are held by both hands, best of luck shame you couldn't get any then

Done! My Valkyrie is done, base still needs to be painted but the gunship itself is done.
Also included is a light box test

Nice clean look on both models, and the Valk looks like an authentic military machine with such neat lines.

That valkyrie is really nice. Love the grey that you've got going on.
Thanks for the info about the torso's and legs. Do you think regular Cadian arms will fit across the Scion torso? It looks like it might work, but having not had the mini's in front of me it's hard to tell.

That's a tricky one...I've put a few cadian arms on scion torsos and its just hard because the torso armour protrudes around the joint and makes it difficult to fit in shoulder pads from guard kits because they cant be snug. In some instances I just put a little putty in behind and then superglued so you should be fine for the most part but i dont think it's been designed to be compatible

Ah well, I'll tell you how I get on with it. Ordered some Cadians and Scions to try it out after being inspired here. LDP pattern veterans are on the way!

Heyo!
Finished the Scion Sgt today. Relatively please with the result, fits in with the others done so far. I also mastered what I feel to be the right amount of subtlety on my OSL on his lenses. (its extreeeeeeeemely subtle, I've provided a close up so you can see).
Tell me what you think!

Looks good. It might be nice to have the powerfist picked out a bit. Not sure how that would work, but I think it deserves a little more then the stock paint job.

Nice clean work LDP. I agree with Paradigm on the Valk- quite authentic looking.

Looks really good. Confirms that the bits really do work together well aesthetically and the paintjob only strengthens that. Nailed it.
Those legs are converted to that pose, right?

Last two are looking awesome, those kits maybe aren't compatible but you've certainly made it work.

@Sageheart, cheers man More to come!
@Nevelon yeeeeeeeeeeeaah I dunno, the side profile is ok, though it does look quite dull in the image. I think in person it's okay, not really sure how to spice it up and keep it in the scheme
@Elnibbus thanks bud, glad you think so! Hopefully the tanks and stuff will look the same
@Medium of Death They are indeed converted, it was pretty straight forward though, just a chop of some normal legs and kneely legs
@Paradigm thanks so much man! Feedback means a ton

I'm really digging the neutral color palette in this army. I'd love to see a pic of them all together on a Cities of Death board!

Damn those look good. I really like the new "not Stormtrooper" kits. Good amount of bitz for kitbashing as well in those boxes. I'm thinking of just doing headswaps with the Dreamforge Eisenkern guys for mine. I bashed one together in my gallery, its a blurry pic but it gets the effect across, came out looking similar to your vets with the Pig Iron heads actually.
Keep up the awesome work!!
