DiDDe's IG WIP log. On the table: Chimera converting time!! @ 2012/07/17 22:25:19

Post by: DiDDe

Hey guys! So I decided to make my own log now. I'm about to start a serious army and not just buy stuff without any big thought about it..

So what can you expect to see in this thread then? Well, Since I want my army to stand out from everyone elses i'm doing some conversions on mine.
Also I got my own paintscheme and such.. No big deal. Almost everyone has there own scheme so..

I'm also looking for some help from you guys. Since i'm still learning ALOT on how to paint and build it would be really nice if you would help me with techniques and such.
or if you just want to check in and look at what i'm up too that works just fine!

Anyways! I hope you'll enjoy what you see here and please leave a comment

To start this thread off then. I'm currently working on a Flight stand for my Vindictus Gunship. That is a converted Valkyrie with a whole bunch of wepons on it.
The base itself is about 2 troopers in there observation post with one looking out over the street and the other one is sitting in cover doing something i haven't come up with yet

Automatically Appended Next Post:
A small update on the base.

I redid the guy looking out at the street and made him look like he's drinking some water and resting his right arm on the window.

I'm also putting some grenades and ammo in the windows in case of an attack.

I also made the other guardsman that's resting in cover. he injured his arm during his assingment and they had to stabalize it.

I made some texture on the pavement and trimed the sides down. I also cut out the shape for the stand and now i'm waiting for the last piece to dry so that i can texture that one up too.

after that it's time for the ruble and stuff to go one there.

Thank you guys

a small update then.

so iv'e finished basing the stand and all that's left now is painting.

it's still wet from the watered down PVA. one other thing is that i wount get any primer until the end of this mounth.. so i wount be able to continue that much on the stand until then..
But i will finish the guardsmen standing in there.

Also I made a small conversion on one of the lasguns. i think it ended up pretty well and i'm considering making a bunch of them for the rest of the army. some with regular lasguns and some with the shorter version

and finally the basecoated guardsmen and their guns.

Hello, I haven't had much time to paint since my last update but i'm done with the guardsmen now.

I'm happy with how they turned out and i must add that painting skin overall is my big nemesis..

2 pics of them in place at the stand

and finally a teaser pic of my next update. what lies inside that really beaten up pagage?

a hint: it's from Forgeworld

Chaos dwarf trains

Nah, not really but here's another hint:

it will have this text one the front of it.

and this "art"

HAHA! i just found the train! it's awesome! xD but no it's still not a train

Great paint job on the Guards, the base looks a bit cluttered to me, but maybe its just the dirt? or the wheel idk, just my opinion though. Subbed

Thanks guys

Wh40kPicasso wrote:Great paint job on the Guards, the base looks a bit cluttered to me, but maybe its just the dirt? or the wheel idk, just my opinion though. Subbed

Yeah i see your point there and i have also thought about it.. i wanted something to break up all the other ruble that's why i put the wheel there. hopefully it'll look better when i get some paint on there.. otherwise i'll just remove the wheel.
thanks for the opinion anyway, i appreciate it

UPDATE TIME

so what was in the poor beaten up pagage then? it held a Marauder Destroyer! with 4 sets of Hellstrike missiles too

when i first saw that pagage i thought that nothing in it could have survived the transport..
but there's some moments you when you get really happy being wrong. and this was such a moment.

nothing was really damaged. just warped. and here's the most warped pieces

at first i thought i had to talk to forgeworld support to get a new canopy and a new wing.. couse they looked terrible.
then it was time to get rid of the exess resin.

after that was done i tried to bend the warped pieces back in a somewhat better shape. and i think i did quite well with that acctually

well, i did well enough to keep them and not order new ones

ther's still some small things to fix and i'll do that when i wash off the releaseagent.

Hot water helps with the warpage, but yeah, for the amount of money they charge, you would think that they would clean/trim, and unwarp the pieces before shipping them. It is why I like some of the other companies out there like Old Crow, I never get the pieces ins such conditions from Jez as I see FW ship out, and his stuff is far less expensive.

Yeah i surely have. i'm beginning to think if i have bit off more than a can chew it's my first time playing around with resin. and i go and buy one of the biggest things i can i'm happy i didn't buy the Warhound titan i thought of first. and it's opinions and critisism from others that makes any person better. so please continue with that

yeah they're extremely expensive. and iv'e noticed on some peices it looks like they've acctually "glued" on some exess resin. :/ i don't really know how to put it.. but i'll put up a pic and you'll see what i mean.

If I can give you one piece of advice, itwould be to be careful with the nose piece, it's sheer weight is an issue, get it really snug and pinned to the fuselage halves first, not last!

Done with the washing now. the only good thing about not having my gf at home is that i can use the kitchen for my hobby without having her whining about it

and up in the left corner is 2 teeny tiny bits that i forgot to mention.. that's the only thing that was broken when it arrived.. didn't notice them at first thouh. it's one of the antenna bits that sits right behind the cockpit and a powercable thats places at the tail. why on earth would anyone make cables hanging from the aircraft

anyways! next up is what i hate the most.. cleaning.. but that will have to wait until tomorrow!

Paint the cockpit first, fit it in , then mask it all for the rest of the painting. The pilot and Bombadier don't fit in there so easily after a coat of paint, mine was a really tight fit.

but when a problem present itself i'll first try to fix it with things i have at home. if that doesn't work i'll just buy something that does.

1. Clean/sand all the parts, fill any airbubble holes, wash them in tepid soapy water, rinse, let dry
2. Warm water to straighten bent parts
3. Get a pin vice and a drill bit the same size as a paperclip
4. Get some paperclips, clip the curves off, you have straight pins
5. Fit the nosecone t o the fuselage halves first. You shouldn't need to pin it, watch your gaps!
6. Drill and pin the wings to the fuselage through the tops (the middle of the fuel caps is a good place, use CA (Super Glue)

and hot you say.. well.. that's never gonna happen. atleast not here humid, yes. but hot, no..

and Comrade, well, i had to try it sometime. let's just hope i'll do the model justice..

and i planned on having an update for tonight for you guys.. but my poor little girlfriend got foodpoisoned.. so i devoted my day to be with her..
i have however, managed to prime the stand and put some paint on it. there was almost a disaster when i primed it. becouse the primer began to melt the styrene. but i was lucky this time! it only melted alittle on the sides. i guess that coat of watered down PVA i sprayed over it all to seal the sand saved me here.

anyways! tomorrow i'll put up some pics of that for you!

well there was once a fella here from italy...iirc... that ruined the most of his foamcore terrain due to spray primer... he also used the PVA coat for protection... it didn´t help him...

be extra careful!

Hello guys!

at last. after a week at my parents house, a foodpoisoned girlfriend and last but definatly NOT least, a computer that nearly crashed. it's time for an update!
yes that's right folks you heard it. update time! and be warned! this is a big one!

first off, as i said earlier the primer nearly ruined the whole thing. lucky for me the PVA protected it enough so that only the edges took damage from it.
so i thought i'd start with some pics of that horrible but very much informative lesson.

all primed up

the meltdamage

surely not the best pics in the world.. kinda looks like RWs pics, eh? (don't worry RW i'm just kidding )

and i'll keep this one short.. this is the update i intended to do before my computer nearly decided to give up on me..
just some WIP shots.

and now ladies and gentlemen! the moment we've all been waiting for! i give to you, the final product!

first the base only.

now with the guardsmen.

and with the stand attached.

and now guys. since i made it for my vindictus gunship i must have a shot with it on there.

consider that last one a teaser.. i'll get better pics of it all later today. outside in the natural light.
well, that was that.. and now to continue with my other project. the marauder!

thanks everyone and until next time. take care out there!

hey DiDDe, you should take one of the resin chunks that you cut off the Marauder parts, wash and dry it, and test your primer on that before spraying the model. You don't want a $300+ USD dollar mistake!

Thanks alot guys!

and i'll give it a go with dirtying up the floor abit as you say.

and how lucky am i?! we've had rain for about a week straight. and just becouse i were going to take pics outside today, it's not a cloud in the sky!
so enjoy.

lone dirty dog wrote:did you paint the interior of the Valk Red I was not sure if it was painted or a red light

yes i did! and that acctually is my first serious attempt at OSL. and i'm really happy with how it turned out. one thing to point out thouh! yes it looks a little overdone. the vindictus is a night operating vessel and what i want you to think of when you look at it is that it's supposed to be pitch black outside! and when it's pitch black even the smallest of lights can look bright.

with that said. here's some pics of that too

even the canopy got a small paintjob

and last a WIP pic that i like pretty much.

and there's alot more pics in my gallery! so feel free to go visit and vote some.

and thanks for another great tip dave!

Thank you really much guys i'm glad you like it. i myself am really happy with how it all turned out. i really didn't think i could pull that off.. since it's my first try at a somewhat bigger sceanery and all.
the only other sceanery i'm doing is the bases of my guard and that's just some GS work.

Hehe silver, that is hard to imagine. i don't feel that i have anything to teach about this.

and dave, my good sir. hopefully it will. but atm i'm not making any progress at all.. i'm stuck with the cockpit and i must ask you this.. how the hell did you fit in the co.pilot?? iv'e searched awhile now and iv'e seen a couple of different methods.. one is to lower the whole cockpit to make it fit.. but that just look silly plus the pilot can't even see out his window. another one is to remove the "joystick" the co.pilot is holding in his hands. but according to your pic, you have the cockpit at it's ment position AND you still have the "joystick" in his hands.. how? what's the secret?

DiDDe's IG WIP log. On the table: Chimera converting time!! @ 2012/08/03 16:40:07

Post by: dsteingass

It's tricky. You can glue the cockpit itself in, but not the pilots. You'll need to sand the backs of their seats just enough so that once the pilot is in, the co-pilot goes in feet-first, then it should pivot down to meet the back of the pilot's seat. Don't remove the stick, just sand/file the backs of their seats. Obviously, You want to dryfit this a few times before you paint the pilots, the thickness of the paint will make it slightly tighter, so make sure you can get them in and out repeatedly before painting them.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I glued my cockpit canopy on, otherwise I'd take more pics for you.. Just work on sanding and dry-fitting a little bit at a time. You WILL NOT break the pilots by pushing on them and forcing them into position.

Post by: DiDDe

So time for an update i figured!

i haven't done much progress at all since my last update. but what i have done is glueing back 2 small peices in place.

the first one is somekind of an antenna i guess.. and the second one is a power cable.

the antenna peice goes right there.

and the cable goes right there one the tail.

and while on this pic.. i got a small question to you guys that's familiar with resin. that glossy coat on the fuselage. is that mold release agent? couse iv'e brushed like mad on it with a toothbrush in warm soapy water but i wont go away..

and the reason for the small progress is all becouse of the god forsaken cockpit.. i've litterly spent hours just trying to figure out how the hell that thing is supposed to fit!
in this pic it all looks ok.

but then in this one. like i said.. how the hell is that even supposed to fit??

i looked for help on google and such but not luck for me there.. i also tried to follow daves advice and sand the back of the chairs (thanks for that advice dave).

but while looking on google i found a pic of an C-130 gunship firecontrol. and i realised that the stick there were put right in the panel itself. so i figured i'd try to make my own stick and put it on the panel too. in that way i can remove the sticks in the hands of the co. pilot (co. pilot or tailgunner? whatever.. i'm just gonna call him buddy ) and also i get to convert my marauder

said and done. i bagan with removing the little ball thingy on the right hand side of the panel. and put some GS there to widen it a bit.

also before i even thought of begining to cut the sticks from buddy i tried my best to create my own one.

and i'm quite happy with how that turned out. and i also managed to make it in quite an accurate scale to buddy too!
with that done an dryfitted i started cutting away the sticks from buddy himself.

and done it looks like this.

i don't know if you guys can see it. but i tried to make some texture on the top of his hands so that it wont be just flat..

and now they fit batter than ever!

i'm currently still working on some small details on the stick like buttons and such. so stay put for the next update!

and yes dave, i did use dishwashing soap. maybe the water was to cold or it wasn't enough soap in there, idk. i just know that i will give it another go with warmer water and alot more soap in it. and hopefully i'll get it off then.

anyways! the cockpit is done!! and it really turned out better than i first expected! man, i'm glad i found that pic on google.

Yes but what kind of oil, also how would I apply it as I would only want it on small areas, do you think I could paint a colour let it dry add the oil then paint another colour over the top, once that is dried it would only effect the top coat

If this works I have some nice ideas for paint work

I would be happy to purchase or trade from you if you have chuck us a PM with a pic and a price or want list

Well, when you put it like that it makes sense

Yes, I am still waiting for those even more so know as I have a few ideas for something else they would be great for

I would be most happy to take that gunner of your hands and bits , what would you like in exchange

I want that effect on some grot tanks, which will also be resin so should work perfectly, once I work out an oil substance to use

PM when you work out what I can trade or fund for the bits

HEY GUYS!!

i just wanted you to know that i'm not dead! well, that's more than i can say about my old computer.. witch by the way crashed about 6 mounths ago.. well by the time i stopped posting.

But i'm back now and hopefully i'll have a major update for you by this time tomorrow. that is if there is still any readers on this thread .
well, major and major.. i haven't done that much since my computer crashed. when it did, it took my desire to paint and build with it. but i have managed to do some stuff!

i haven't done that much on the marauder becouse i want you guys to be there and support me with tips and tricks and ideas and stuff like that while i'm building it. but i have painted the cockpit and glued the main body together and done some GS work on it. also i have painted an idea for the noseart for it. that's about all i have done on the marauder.

so what else have i been up to? i have painted a squad of shock troopers, a sentinel, bought a leman russ and restored that back to it's former glory.
and last but not least i've made some small fixes on my baneblade. but only on the turret so far. like adding a new heavy stubber to it, so now it has 2 of them. i've also scratchbuilt a gunshield for one of the stubbers (yes it has rivets).

well, more about all this tomorrow! hopefully you have something to look forward to! becouse i'm sure as hell looking forward to start posting here again!
i've missed you guys!

Thank you squidbot!

And now my first real update in 6 looong months!
i think i'm gonna post what i have been up to other than the marauder to later jump back to that project.

so like i said in that earlier post. iv'e painted up a sentinel and a squad of shock troopers.
so that is what i will dedicate this post too.

and the next one will be about the baneblade and it's new stuff.

so here goes. a bunch of pics of my sentinel

all the bases i'm doing is made with GS but i'm thinking of getting some stuff to make molds and make my bases in that way.

and the squad then.
first we have the sarge

and a vox operator

the whole squad together

and the squad with the sentinel AND my leman russ executioner

there! hope that's a good enough first update
more will come shortly!

ehehe.. i forgot to post about the bases for the squad. they will ofc have just as nice looking bases as the sentinel has. but they are currently under production.

Yeah i figured i could just make an ordinary base and just slam on some dirt and and then drybrush.. But where's the fun in that?

shasolenzabi wrote:Looking Good DiDDe! I also like the Fallout vibe the plasma cannon gives on that Tank!

Thank you! i haven't played Fallout yet so i can't really have an opinion on that.. But i'm sure it's a good thing

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

SO! did i hear update?

I said this update would be about the Baneblade. But i've changed my mind about that. This update will be about what i have done on the marauder!
And like i said earlier too, i haven't done that much on it becouse i want you too be there with your opinions about stuff. and i acctually have one thing i need your opinion about.

But first let's see what i've been up to.
Here's the canopy. it looked like gak literally the inside of it.. so after half a pot og LGS i made it look like this.

And when i was done filing and smoothing everuthing up it now looks like this.

I'm quite happy with the result. And it was stupid of me to not take a pic of it before i went berserk on it with the LGS.. But meh.. I think you'll survive with out that pic anyways.

What next..?
OH yeah! some paint! i think it was dave that told me to paint the cockpit before assemble the whole body. And well, that was a really good tip!

Here's the tailgunners monitors or workspace if you will.

And why on earth that pic has been turned to the side i don't know..
ANYWAYS! the whole cockpit with crew and stuff.

I have pinned the wings. But they are not glued down yet.

Filled the gaps between the parts

And finally i've done a prototype of the noseart!

To that i will add the text "swedish pagan" on the top of it.

And here's where i need your help and opinion guys!
There isn't really any good places to paint it. so i'm thinking about cover up the door on the left side and make it flat so that i get the space to paint the nosart.
I mean they still have a door on the right side
Here's a pic to show what i mean.

And that's it! that's how much i have done on the marauder. this may be the biggest update i've ever done .
Hope it's not to much in one go.

I also just noticed that this is page 4 on this thread. So "yaaay" to me

Great clean up and the helmet nice, cant you make a cover for the door adding a slight indent edge around the side, so it looks more like a cover for the door that in emergencies ejects or can be removed.

LDD, i'm not following you there.. do you have a pic or something so i get something to work from?

Vik, it's really good to be back

Dave, no not really. but i wanted to make a smooth transition between the peices. becouse they were not exactly uniform, there was like a 2mm difference at the worst spots. but there was not gap or anything.

What I mean is like the picture above your large and small drawings of the helmets the hatch, why not just fill in the section with PC but leave a small section around the edge or scribe it in ( like the pic ) that way you can add the motif there.

Are you painting it on or making a transfer ?

Ok, now i get what you are trying to say. well, i don't have to fill it with PC becouse there is a hatch going there. but i'm thinking of filing away the texture of it to make it more neutral. and leave it as it is on the other side. in that way i get the "emergency hatch" feeling on it. and also i get a much better surface to paint on. is that what you thouht of?

and about the nose art. i'm not making it as a decal. i'm gonna paint it on.

and sorry for the lack of updates. i've just been to a military exercise for 6 days. as i'm a part time soldier i have to do a couple of exercises a year. and this one was all about winter warfare!
one of the stuff we trained on was patrol and encounters on our awesome and trusted "white lightning"! or in other words, just skies... and that my freinds isn't the easiest to do.
we also had a test that everyone had to do. and it was built up in 3 different stations where you had like different scenarios in each one. and you had to pass all 3 to pass the test. and out of 65 persons taking part in the test only 18 passed!!
and ofcourse i was one of the 18!

hopefully i'll have a propper update up by tomorrow night. hang on guys!

Part time military? Sesh come join me private waghh you can be full time. Exercises? Yay wez got dem, just kinda chuck you in da field. As far as the detail filing goes... Take the skull off leave the rest and just paint over it. That is what i feel a real air man would do anyways. And if you ever seem planes the texture of the model doesn't get in the way of the over all effect. And in my opinion only adds to the realism.

I don't know about joining your WAAAAGH.. i don't think i would get along with a horde of orks.

and yeah you're probably right about only filing the skull. i think i'll stick to that. i will also fill it abit with GS to make the edges between the fuselage and the hatch more "narrower" or what you could call it..

nah, the more i look at it the more i think it'll look better with the hatchframe still there.

i haven't got much of an update. RL has been punching me in the face real hard these past couple of weeks. with ALOT of overtime at work, a breakup and stuff like that.. i just haven't had the time nor the will to build.
but i hope that will change soon.

anyways, back to the update then. iv'e been palying the game world of warplanes quite a bit lately. i am one of the lucky ones who got approved to test the closed beta.
and in that game there is one aircraft that has proved itself to me. so much that i had to get a little 1:72 scale model of it!

can anyone guess the aircraft?

ofc it's a messerschmitt Bf 110E. how did you know? i also love that you guessed 1/48 scale when i wrote that it was 1/72 in scale!

I got some goodies in the mail today! first a delivery from GW with some reinforcements for my guard in the form of a cadian battleforce and a sentinel.

next is a delivery with some stuff i bought from a guy on ebay.
first it's 2 carryingcases one big and one small.

and then there were these 2 babies.

a LRBT and a basilisk. the LRBT is all complete! don't need that much work on it. but the basilisk misses some things. but the thing about them and the major reason i bought them is that i got the LRBT for only 3,89 dollars!!! or £2,6.

and just becouse the basilisk had some pieces missing i got it for free! so the total sum for the cases and the tanks i paid 50,51 dollars or £33,74
not bad if you ask me.

Thx guys!

I haven't had any will to build or paint what so ever.. i really hope that it will return soon! i'm like looking at my table and think "hmm, maybe i should paint alittle." but then i don't know where to start and so i loose the desire to do anything..
Also one reason i haven't done anything is that i want to buy some PC so that i can customize my vehicles abit! so if anyone know a good site where i can find please share! and the best stuff to buy. like the basic things you need.
i'm also gonna buy some weathering powders and masterclass books from forgeworld.and hopefully i'll get my desire back and learn some new stuff in the process.

anyways! iv'e been looking at my baneblade awhile now and figured i need to do something about it.

here is what it looked like when i decided it was finished back in 2011.

i didn't paint the crew since i didn't have the paint for it.. also as you can see, there is no weathering on it what so ever.
but that's about to change!

The things i'm gonna do with it is:
1. make the crew more interesting (iv'e already done some things there. like building a gunshield for the gunner and changed the hatch for the commander).
2. well obviously it's in dire need of some weathering..
3. smack some storage on it!
4. repainting some small stuff like lenses and lights.

i'm sure more things will be added to the list as i go along. but that's the main things i think needs to be done.

here's the peices i'm using for the new look of the crew

i'm still using the old gunner. but like i said i built a gunshield for him so he wount feel so exposed

and the things assembled. well, only tacked together so far.

imo the commander looks way more interesting now! with the new pose the with the stubber and light there.

www.iplasticsupply.com for sheet plastic, best price anywhere in the US.
http://www.iplasticsupply.com/materials/high-impact-styrene-his-sheet/ I use 1/16" or 0.40" almost exclusively.
All you need is a knife, plenty of sharp blades, and a cork-backed stainless steel ruler ( $8 Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc.) I'd recommend this thin beam square as an optional accessory

Find your local model train shop too, loot them like you were an ork. O scale is the good stuff, but some ho scale works too. Also you may want to buy some clamps. And testers orange tube glue.

.>And I was wrong too, 0.40" or 3/64" is what I use exclusively, sorry bout that. 1/16" is 0.60", and more like the bottom hull thickness of a Chimera kit.

but i guess it would be just as easy to just scratch something form PC..

not much of an update today guys.
i'm currently working on the commander. removing some fancy bling bling stuff he had on his right shoulder and doing some small GS work on him.

Ok, well i'll see if i can post the process of it tomorrow

And now i do have a small update "yaaaay" for ya!

like i said i'm working on the commander at the moment. and this is what i've done so far.

I removed the bling bling on the shoulder and smoothed it out with some GS.

And while i was in the mood for playing around with it and having some GS left i decided that i'll try to do a pair of googles for him aswell!

and imo it turned out well! it's the first time i ever try something like that!

So what do you guys think?

Thx vik! i'm really pleased with how they turned out. and it really gives a new look to the helmet!

about the bling. i don't want a simple vehicle commanders to have bling. it doesn't really fit in a tank imo.

but on the command squad there should be bling! or any higher ranked officer for that matter.

yupp, atleast that's that's my experience when sitting in a tank. but a baneblade isn't really a tank.. more like a moving fortress.. and by the look of the model it seems like there's alot of space in it
but anyways, no fance bling bling on my vehicle commanders! that's for the fancy pants officers in the back of the army..

Haha well.. i was really close of doing it the dumb and swearing way to! what saved me was that it all fell apart when i stripped the paint from it!

one thing i love about myself is that i don't use a big amount of glue! only so much that it doesn't fall apart during normal handling.
in that way it's still easy to break apart when i want it too.

LOL... well my models are either made with plastic glue...(forged together for eternity...) or PVA (globbered together for eternity too) or in rather rare cases made with superglue... and then i have a chance to disassemble them without a hammer...

this modus operadi developed over time as i often had the case of my mdels falling apart in my fingers... and as i have quite the temper...this is not really something i look forward too too often

Lalalala, nah i'm not gone.. yet. well not that i intend to leave anytime soon. i've just been lurking around for about 2 months

So i figured it's time to throw in an update of what iv'e been up to. well, it hasn't been that much actually. just some small things here and there.

first things first. iv'e slowly been building up my arsenal of building materials and and stuff like that. and quite naturally i've run out of space to place things.. as you can see below.

but don't fear! i just used my god awesome carpentry skills! heh, i'd love to have some anyway. and well, i made myself a shelf using old furniture.

looks good doesn't it?

iv'e also played my first ever game of 40k! and believe it or not i actually won! and no i don't have any reports or photos of the game. i had full focus on just trying to learn how to play. but it was a game of 1535p space marines VS. space wolfs.
my opponent had to leave at the end of turn 3 so we just counted victorypoints and it ended at 6-3 to me. i can't really give you any more details than that. i barely understood what i was doing during the game anyway!

so now i'm building up my IG army so that i can play with it. so you could say that the painting is on hold for now. after i'm done with the baneblade turret that is!

and about that turret! i'm done with the gunner and commander. so it's just the turret itself left now.
and ofc pics or it didn't happen (heh, sais the one that won a battle he doesn't even have pic of) and so on.

and those photos are taken under the light of my 2 new lamps i bought today.

and and they are soooo much better than the old one. there you can also see the new shelf
and that is the position of the lamps when i don't use them. if you hadn't figured that yet

and this is when i use them for photos.

the only thing i need for that now is a lightbox. i guess i have to make one... someday... somehow...

anyway! that's all for now. and i'll just end this update with a teaser of a future scenario.

Before i give you this small update i have to show you something that the instant i saw it i thought "hey look! a Bolter!" i mean come on! the guys constructing this watergun has to be 40k players or something.
you can't just make something from mind and make it look THAT much like a Bolter

anyways, i think it looks cool as hell and i think it would look really great in a SM army pretty spaced bolter huh?

so let's move on to the update then shall we?

like i said it's just a small one. i'm done with the lenses on the turret now and the next step is weathering.
i managed to break off the searchlight on the turret when i painted the lenses. so i drilled two holes and pinned it in place. yaay problem solved!

i also took the liberty of taking pictures using the old lamp and the 2 new ones. and i think the pics speak for themselfs

first with the old one

and with the new ones

and a pic with the commander and gunner on there.

the reason i haven't glued them sown is becouse i'm planning on magnetising them in place so that i can remove them for transport.

so that's it for today! cheers!

those lenses are really cool...!

and well this thing about nerf guns (bolt and water guns...) having been influenced... that is going around a lot these days... their bolt firing guns are even more strikingly similar looking...

Thanks guys!

i'm really sorry everyone. i have lied to you. but it's a good lie i promise!

i haven't started the weathering yet as i said i would.. but instead i started playing around with some PC

i thought the turret needed more storageplace so i started builing a "basket" on the left side of it.

i really had no idea what i was doing.. i mean i had a small idea in my head but that was it.
so i worked out the problems and the design as i went on.

and here's how it all turned out!

let me know what you think!

and now it's time to paint again.

i don't know yet we'll see! but i guess a couple of ammoboxes, a lasgun or two, backpacks, camonetting? like i said. we'll see

the only thing i regret about it now that it's done is that i didn't make it bigger.. or maybe i should say longer. i mean i could have used more space in the rear.

I have to admit, I like the lenses despite the "Jeweled" lens look is over done in GW and I have the piece turned around so that I will paint a red and green light so the commander when out of the hatch sees that tall optics device is on or off and working from his hatch, even though my commander is apparently busy shouting and waving a Las-Pistol about.

Awesome work on that basket BTW

and thank you!

cormadepanda wrote:Didde.. make me some baskets those are great! and your lensing is fabulous.

haha "make me some baskets" you make me sound like your slave or something. but i take it as you liked it so i'm gonna take all that bad energy and turn it into a compliment.
thank you

I had a small spree trying to figure out what i shall have in named basket. but i must say that it was without success..

here's a few examples i tried...

first up (and probably the most serious one i might add) is a heavy bolter with some ammoboxes.

i thought that it looked kinda cool having the bolter there. but i had to try something else too.

how about 12 fuelcans? after all, this has to be a thirsty beast.

and i just went bananas from here.. "hmm, maybe a whole fueldrum could fit in my newly made fancy little basket?"

nah!

nanana two kneeling guardsmen taking a ride?

after all it IS saftey first, right?

i really don't have any idea why i even tried this.. i guess i just wanted to see how it looked..

anyway! like i said. so far no success. but i'm pretty tired right now too. i'll try again later..

i like it too. the only thing i regret about this basket is that i didn't make it large enough to take all 20 of them.

cormadepanda wrote:12 fuel cans. No one will ask questions. It is completely safe, and very real looking.

it does indeed look real. i wonder how much farther they would be able to make the baneblade drive though.

BrotherOfBone wrote:I think you should put a solid piece of plasticard over the basket and make it a little gun nest ;D Have a couple of guardsmen with lasguns/longlas sat in there, being all cool

haha that sounds like a really great idea. but i'm not gonna do it on this one.

i'm not sure if i will use all of them considering it has 4 drums on the back. atm that is! i'm gonna put another 2 on there too.

and in that case if i use the 12 cans aswell it would look like a bigass moveable fighting fuelstation.. and that isn't really the look i'm going for unfortunetly.

Most times the baskets are for gear stowage as the soldiers have little room inside the tank due to ammo and such so their kit bags and duffels, and bedrolls go in the baskets.

Funny thing that you mentioned the bedrools. i have decided what i will have in the basket now and there will be 5 of them in the bsket. among with an ammobox, 2 cans that i will write (alteast try to) "water" on, one big bag and some other rolled stowage bit.

pic of it will be up in a moment

camo netting... really the jerry cans look a bit ridiculous there... but a good and big camo netting now that would be fitting!... use bandages and herbs for that... or tea as i think you will find that green leaves wouldn´t become for your scheme that well...

@LDD: Not really sure if palm tree leaves fit in a city environment.

So i got a little update.

i've started the weathering on the turret, and this is how it looks right now.

i'm not really sure about the space between the hatches.. i wanted it to look like they have been moving around there ontop of the turret.
do you guys have any suggestions?

in overall, how do you think it looks? should i add somewhere or remove somewhere?

i also added a laser targeting thingy at the end of the barrel

and last but not least. i got bored so i made a new stand for a heavy bolter using the legs from the mortar. i really think it looks great!
and the best part is that it's no taller than the old tripod legs!

so that's it for today! stay tuned for more.

I think the weathering is done now. I can't think of anything more to do. maybe some Devlan mud (I bought up the rest of the stock when the new edition came out) and make some grime on the rivets?

This is how it looks right now anyway..

and with the crew.

so tell me what you think! i'm happy with the result. well i may have overdone it a little... but since the hatches was so overdone and i didn't bother to repaint them i just kinda made it easy for me.

looking forward to see that. i like the way you weather your stuff!

I've had a really eventful week and haven't had much time to play around with the Baneblade. first there was alot to do on the job.
then i managed to get a couple of days off to go buy a new car since the old one was, well. old.. and to small really.. and that itself was quite an adventure. i drove 2000km in 30 hours without any sleep. i didn't drive it all in one go though. i had like 4-6 hours of rest for like breakfast, lunch and looking at the car..
and now afterwards i'm happy i made the trip because the car is great!
and when i got home from that i slept 6 hours before it was time to kidnap my dad for his stag party (is it called that? ) mom and dad is finally getting married after 25 years engagement.
that was ALOT of fun! and well, the day after that i was in no condition to make any progress what so ever to the bane.
and yesterday my dad scared the living gak out of me! my mom called and woke me up on the afternoon (i'm working nightshift so i'm sleeping on the days..) telling me that my dad had flipped his truck in the ditch. and that he was on his way to the ER in an ambulance. the truck looks like trash but he walked away with only minor injuries and they sent him home after a couple of hours.

so yeah like i said. i've had quite an eventful week.

i got a small update for you though! well. it's more like a teaser-

this is what i'm working on

the one who manages to guess what it is may take a cookie!

and yeah this is what the truck looks like now..

the ditch is not like an ordinary "V" or"U" shaped ditch. this one is a slope and although it can't be seen in the pic it's kinda steep.
and the reason he flipped is because some scumbag driver passed really close to him and just as his cars butt passed the trucks front he steered back right infront my dad. and since it was really close my dads natural reaction were to steer away. so he did that and avoided the crash with the car but when he looked in his mirror he saw the trailer going into the ditch. so he tried to steer in the other direction to make the trailer move back up onto the road but the trailer flipped instead taking the truck with it.

so that's what happened. if my writing makes any sence.

and nope. it's not a mine sweeper.

Firstly what an arse hole thank god your dad reacted as he did as it could have been even more serious outcome, your explanation makes total sense I didi not realise that another vehicle was involved.

Hows this left your dad as to work ? Is the vehicle his own or company supplied ? I know a lot of HGV drivers have their own rigs so this could end up costing him thanks to some idiot.

Never in a million years would I have guessed that one clever idea though, will you be adding a paint scheme at all and if what kind will it be ?

yepp, and then you haven't heard the worst part yet.. the idiot that made him flip just contiuned despit the crashing truck in his mirrors..

the truck is company supplied thank god. he had his own company when i was a little kid but that whent to hell since the truck just broke down all the time... and my family ended up with millions in debt.
but this is the last mounth he's paying back all that. only took them 17 years...

like i said it's company supplied but he was the only one driving that one. so right now he stands without one. but his boss can and probably will buy a new one soon anyways..
so my dad is just walking around at home rehabilitating himself.

and yeah i'm quite happy with that idea

dsteingass wrote:That's awesome Didde! Will you then use clump foliage or something similar?

indeed i will. the tutorial i found is the one that Digits made. and i saw you've been on his thread.

Thats the worst thing about road accidents the ones who causes it always escapes free of injury and pisses of then everyone else who ends up in the aftermath are left to deal with the outcome.

Well at least he has not got that initial finical worry to deal with, although having to pay for the last 17 years is just as bad

Lets hope he is fit and back to work soon as then

I was wondering if you would add clump foliage to it, will this be to all the wire then ?

Hey guys! so i'm back from vacation now. i had a great time in the lovley city of gothenburg. doing alot of sunbathing, eating good food, visiting friends and ofc alot of shopping! and who am i to not visit the GW store while there?

so i bought some new stuff there.
just a small supply drop for my guard

and now when the vacation is over it's back to work again.. and this night i just had to take this pic.

i drive by this sign litterly every day i work. and every time i see it, it makes me think of DakkaDakka... and i really can't figure out why.

also some other news about the modeling then. i haven't been able to find the mesh i need to texture the smoke for the bane blade yet. and while i'm looking for that i will start on my entry for brians competition about recycled stuff.

so stay tuned for that!

well, we'll see when the time comes for them to get painted

and i don't really know what kind of mesh i'm looking for.. everyone keeps talking about "car body mesh" but i haven't gound any yet. hopefully in the next couple of days cause i'm really eager to see some progress on the smoke myself.

Viktor von Domm wrote:those smoke skeleton effects look terrific!!!

thank you!

haha it's really fun to the pic as your avatar! fits you really well imho. i had a small thought about you using it as your avatar but i never really thought you'd use it.

i feel kinda honoured acctually!

as i replied to jeff i haven't really found any mesh yet. but i will put up a pic within an hour of the progress so far. it gives you a small hint of what it will look like when it's finished.
i have started (and i'm nearly done) putting some foliage on the wires going from the launchers to the blast itself. and well.. right now it looks kinda like green smoke.

the reason i'm not done yet is because i'm working in batches taking two wires at a time. otherwise i would be high as he** right now.
and we're not gonna have that kind of fun are we? no, i didn't think so!

I'm with you Didde..all the Brits talk about this car body repair mesh..but nothing like it seems to exist in the US....How the hell can car body work be that much different across the pond? I don't know. They must layer it between bondo layers like fiberglass is done for all I can guess.

Hey guys! remember me? i went a little awol there for a while. i haven't really been in a good mood to do anything.. i guess the mesh problem is getting the best of me.

and as you can probably figure i haven't done much since my last update.. iv'e built a chimera, the aegis defence and a LRBT. that's all iv'e done in about a mounths time...

in my last update i said that i would start with comrades and ruglunds competition about recycling. well, what can i say about that, i didn't even get past the planning stage..
so i figured i'll try my luck this new one. and hopefully my idea will be badass enough to enter.

and this one i got all figured out already now it's just a matter of building it!
i have talked about this idea before. and i think that this is the right time to make it happen.

this is my work station at the moment by the way.

Thank you!

sooo, i just got a small update for now on my entry. iv'e been looking with a flashlight and magnifying glass for an evergreen scale models reseller here in sweden.
do you guys know how hard that was?! anyway, i've found one pretty good now and just placed an order for some PC goodness.

so now that problem is out of the way.. but i still have some other stuff to buy. like some new drillbits in different sizes. and some new blades for my knifes.

speaking of knives! how on earth do you cut a straight edge on a piece of PC? i can't figure out how to so that, so i always end up with an angle on the edge..
i would really appreciate some advice from you PC-gurus here on dakka

so iv'e started building the the two "arms" (in lack of a better word) that holds up the ramp. it's not done yet. nooo. i got some more work to do on them.
first of all i need to file down some edges and fill some gaps with GS and i've started abit on that already.
i'm also gonna put some more detail on it like rivets, electronic/hydrolic lines, some more plating on the inner side and i'm sure i will come up with some more things to add as i go on.

so without any further delays. here's the pics of it so far. enjoy!

they look kinda high as they are right now. but that's just because i'm gonna have the heavy bolter mounted there aswell.
and my apologies for the bad photos.. i just couldn't bother with getting good ones today. but i promise they will be better later on!

Looks great, looks big too. I know by the time your finished it will be perfect.

As to the PC cutting. If I want accuracy I have a 6" steel square as a guide for cutting. But I don't often worry at accuracy. Best asking a proper master.

Really looking forward to this Russ. Keep it coming.

DiDDe's IG WIP log. On the table: Chimera converting time!! @ 2013/09/26 08:14:21

Post by: lone dirty dog

That is going to be big I have no idea how this will turn out but will watch with interest

I use a square and steal ruler then use several slices rather than forcing the blade, it's not perfect but reduces the angle issue then you can get a sanding block and run the PC side against it to get a smoother finish.

i've also done some work on the hull. the back is now done.

and i made a slight conversion on the gun barrel too it's not done yet. but let me know what you think.

Thank you.

yeah i figured since the ramp itself will have to be some length i thought i'll make the barrel a little longer too. so hopefully when it's all done it wount look so silly
and yes. i'm going for a vanquisher-look on it now. this thing wount really be in close combat since it has it's rockets and stuff so i might aswell put a sniping gun on it while i'm at it.
plus i think it ads alot to the conversion too

shasolenzabi wrote:One heckuva good Leman, and nice use of T-34 external fuel drums!

thank you, thank you

hehe yeah, i think they fit pretty well there on the back

ok, guys! so i think i've reached quite a milestone on this build now! the bunny-ears are done! and so is the barrel. in fact, the tank in whole is DONE!
now it's only a matter of building the rocket-ramp and finish this bad-ass build in time.

i don't have any pics atm.. well, that's not entirely right. i have pics of it but i can't upload them until tomorrow. so tomorrow i will have pics of it up.

Now where's the fun in that? i agree that a trebuchet arrengement would look cool. but then you would have to reload after every "BAM!"
while the oil rig arrengement would go like "BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM!"

i've encountered a problem guys.. quite a big one actually.. i need 16 hunter-killer missiles for this baby.
and i only have 5.. and there basically NON of the bitz-sellers that has any in stock.

but i will continue to build and see if i can come up with something else.. the worst case scenario would be that i had to build 11 hunter-killers myself.

Ofc! these are the ones i'm looking for!

i don't need the mount, just the missile.

and vik, i didn't say it was no option. i just said that it would be a last resort, since it would be pretty time-consuming to create 11 misiles from scratch.

Now finally it starts to feel like i'm getting somewhere!

this is the first glimpse of what it will look like!

but witch direction do you think i should go with? it's a length difference of the rack.
personally i like the second one.

any C&C is most welcome!

some more angles of the second version.

I think CFG #2 looks better.

Yeah, second one is better... But for that rather short hunter killer missiles a very long slope nevertheless?...

And I am afraid I am with Vik, it looks great but not 100% sure about the size of the rack.

Makes it look like it needs more hydraulic arms as the one sticking way out front seems less practiceable. Look up WW-II Caliope as that was a rocket launcher on a tank

Like

The assembly of the arm to the main cannon barrel allowed them to raise the launchers however they liked. They used tubes, but Katyusha style rails could also work as that is what you are shooting for here. I hope this helps you DiDDe

I was thinking Calliope too! Shorter is a bit better methinks,

Thanks guys, i appreciate the criticism.

i must admit that when i look at the ramp now it does look a bit long.. so i think i'm gonna cut away a centimeter or 2. however, i am basing it on the katuysha after all.
and hopefully since the Hunter-killers are some length themselves i think that when they are mounted the ramp will look abit shorter.
and while i'm using hunter-killer missiles i don't really see them as that. i see them as "stupid rockets" if you know what i mean.
like it's just a regular rocket with a warhead and without any guiding-systems what so ever exept the fins and the ramp, witch in this case helps it get a straight course.
and therefore i'm making it so long.

also, you guys do realize that i'm making a mix of the sherman calliope and a katyusha right?
so i will connect the ramp to the gunbarrel so that it can elivate.

and for those of you who don't know what a katuysha is. here's a reference pic.

hey didde...had a shocking revelating moment... i don´t own any hunter killer missles at all... i didn´t realize the fins on the bit you showed... i mistook them as the rockets of the HW teams of the bazookas...sorry mate! but i found shorter ones... maybe these could be of some use for you nevertheless?

The shorter ones are very Soviet AT missile looking, like the Sagger missiles.

Hence why I mounted my stubby HK missiles on the barrels of tanks and chimeras

So yeah, Katyusha/Caliope fusion is what I was thinking of when I saw the concept DiDDe,
