Batman Miniature Game is a skirmish turn-based miniature game.
The first thing is band creation, you will love this part because there will be a lot of possibilities.
Batman universe has a very rich and detailed background, with over 65 years of comic-books, tv shows, movies, etc.
The idea is that there will be bosse like the Joker, Penguin, Two-Face .... and they can fight each other as well. On the other hand many characters of the Batman Universe are not so important to form their own band, these are called "free agents" and will ally to one side or the other according to that point of the story and their background. Each boss can have sidekicks and lackeys, or be replaced by one of them, these sidekicks will modify the way you play with that band.
Each character will have a Reputation value (is the equivalent to what other games call "cost" or "points"). Also some characters will cost USD because they have some special rules or expensive equipment. Dollars will be used to buy additional equipment for your lackeys as well.
Turn will be divided in several phases, first Plan Preparation. The Motivation score will determine the number of actions each character can take each turn, in this phase you will distribute this tokens forming your plan. The plan is open so the opponent can see where you place your tokens, making a very tactical and deep game.
Then comes the activation phase of the miniature, eachn player take turns activating the habilities of the characters following the previous plan, p.e. Batman can use the Batclaw or throw a Batarang, Bane can use a Titan dosis, a Clown his Insane Laughter... as we release figures you will discover the potential of each character and their rules. Each character will be special and charismatic so the player can feel the resemblace to comics, video games and movies of this wonderful world.
After activation phase the turn is over and any effect or recovery of the characters is resolved (yes!, characters can recover from KO or heal injuries).
There will be scenarios (we want it to be an spectacular game!), but I prefer to tell no more, we want you to discover many surprises when the game is available.

I like the models, but I'm happy enough with the Clix gameplay for my comic game needs(plus, you get more than just Bats, his family, and rogues). May pop some of these on some Clix bases, but that'd be about it.

Licensing, especially for a vast sprawling franchise like Batman can be frighteningly specific. I remember reading once that some marketer noticed they had given a license to one company to make Batman figures larger than 2", and a license to another for Batman figures smaller than 2"...
So they went and issued a 3rd company a license for figures that were exactly 2" tall.
So I would guess the license for Hero Clix is something like "28mm scale pre painted collectable figures for use in games with maps"
While Knight Models has "28mm scale unpainted figures for use in miniature war games on tabletops"

I'm glad to see that they are doing a full line with a game. I have the Batman figure that is available and it is superb. A bit pricy though...
I like what I see in the figures so far, but I would love better pictures of them.
Hopefully they don't have to stick to just the video game lineup, although departing from it would require some redesigning that DC may not be alright with.
I would love to see the aforementioned Red Hood, and the Royal Flush Gang from the Justice League: Doom video.
Looking forward to more.

I guess since they found the loophole to produce another DC based miniatures game, considering the rumors about an Arkham prequel with the Justice League and that Warner really needs to push their franchises which are not Batman, I wouldn't be surprised to see other DC characters show up later. Maybe miniatures based on Injustice.
I wonder how they're going to do Mr. Freeze.

Knight models are generally pretty pricey. Will that still hold for

Joker's goons.

Are those the 54mm figure prices, of the 28/30mm figure prices?
If the smaller scale, then yeah, that's a bit pricey.
I'm hoping the 'goons' come in blisters/boxes to help keep costs down in terms of a 'per figure'...figure.

More likely the Clix licence would be for pre-painted collectible minis, whereas this one would be for unpainted metal gaming minis.
Yes, they can be that specific. At one point there, GW, Mithril, Neca and whoever the guys were who did the LOTR Clix (who GW bought out) all had slightly different and very specific licenses for different types of LOTR minis.

Thinking on this, this game can really rock and roll. a starter set for each bad guy with thier own personal minions, you got the other Gotham heros and sidekicks, the other villians, thier minions, too. The GPD, the Question, The Demon, The Hitman, etc.etc.etc.
You could take it to another level with other groups, superheros, and thats not even talking about scenery.
I still play DC Online on occasion, and let me tell you, Gotham is pretty darned busy. Even with Falcone, and the rest of them, you can stay busy painting these guys for quite a long time.
I think they could even take it to another level if they went into the rest of the JLA. Wonder Woman..... mmmm.... Green Lantern... Oh heck yeah. The Flash (s) , we got quite a few more ways to go with that, too.
The Legion of Doom, The Secret Six, The Sirens, etc.etc.etc.....
I'm in.

I think Arkham City has enough bad guys in it without bringing in a bunch of other ones. Seriously, the game is filled to the gills with the Rogue's Gallery.
Representing the good guys will be the tougher thing. You've got the GCPD special forces, you've got Batman (obviously), then there's Robin (Drake) and Nightwing (Grayson). Barbara Gordon is Oracle in this version of the universe, and I guess Catwoman could be an ally (given her role in the game). What else though?
Not sure how it'd work, especially when not all of the bad guys are affiliated with any groups, or have any goons (Victor Fries doesn't, Zsasz doesn't).

If you're serious the answer is certainly no.
Wit sprawling francises like this different incarnatins of Batman can be different licenses. Ie one company makes stuff based on a cartoon, another based on the movie, another on a video game and another still based on comics.
And that's without going into the issue of Warner vs 20th Century Fox over who owns what with the Adm West Batman.
But I'm sure some company somewhere can be persuaded to make Alan East Fly Rodent Man minis...

I could've sworn this was sorted out earlier this year, though the only references I can find are that the issues are between DC & Fox with Warner Bros. (despite owning DC) making it fairly clear that they have nothing to do with the dispute.

Please no, we don't need kickstart and there limited stuff. All kickstart dose for a company that can do with out them, is making stuff the no kickstart buyer can't get. I've passed on more then a few games becouse I could by the kickstart stuff and cut out the store that would sell the stuff. And, FLGS are the one that really need the money, now they don't get it becouse of kickstarts.
If it a new no money company, then go kickstart. Still if they want my money, don't limit stuff. Look how Judge Dreed did it, I can buy every thing from there kickstart, but then they really could of done it without a kickstart. I've already pick up some stuff for there game from my store, so both get money instead of just the company I never goto.

Didn't they lose the licence for that range? I'm sure they have stopped the Boba Fett bust I wanted.

From what i understand Knight Models chose not to renew the Star Wars license, there was a post about it on their Facebook page way back in July.
There have been several questions lately regarding the future of the our Star Wars line . After a lengthy evaluation, Knight Models has decided not to renew the Star Wars license with Lucasfilm. We’ve had a long and fantastic run, but with the economic downturn, we have made the tough decision to discontinue our Star Wars lines and extend the licenses we work with new products as the LOTR , DC
, BATMAN films, MARVEL and more .
The license has officially ends ,while I know the news is disappointing, we wanted to make this announcement as soon as possible and thank you for being such great fans. It’s been a fantastic ride with the Star Wars community and working with Lucasfilm and you never know when we may circle back again!.
Knightmodels Team
I feel bad for anyone who had some of the star wars stuff on their 'to buy' list, only for the range to completely disappear overnight without even a warning that they weren't planning to renew the license.

Kickstarter is a great way to Kickstart (see what i did there) a new range etc like this but it isnt a fix-all. If they have more talented sculptors than licensed IP then getting more money isnt going to help. But if they blew their wad on getting the IP then the kickstarter money would be perfect to pay talented sculptors to do their magic and means we can have pretty man-dollies that much quicker. It doesnt have to be a "Kickstart or this thing doesnt get off the ground" in my mind, it is sometimes a case of "Kickstart and this project will only take 4 months to get a full range of minis rather than 4 years of relying normal sales."
Given the choice between a normal production schedule of 2 years to get a Bat Faction, some GCPD, some Mooks and some Bad guy Solos...OR them having a kickstarter which let them have all of that, plus more in the same time frame I am all for it. Hell, double so if I can get something cheaper than normal or if there is something "limited" that I like the look of.

Well as far as those costumes for Harley Quinn (and 75% of the villains for that matter within the setting) go in the game, from a story perspective Paul Dini wrote that she had no access to her original costume and thusly pieced one together from everything and anything she could find. (Source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_rhuOnQ_TA , Skip to 5:00)
So with this in mind if they do alternate models I would really prefer them to give us the choice of any of her three costumes, especially since they had art in Arkham Asylum that showed us their spin on her classic look:

Actually, no, Batman didn't get Bane in the comics. I just read the full Nighfall comic and Azrael (Jean Paul Valley) took the place of Bruce and kicked the crap out of Bane. The real Batman did not beat him after getting better, but I haven't read many Batman comics, so I'm sure Batman beat him in the future. But beating him right after recovering? No. Bane whooped him.

Like I said, I'm sure Bats got him in the future. But when it mattered, he got thumped and didn't properly get to prove himself. However, to be fair, Bane broke everyone out of Arkham, wore Batman out trying to capture them all, plus Batman was sick, and Bane beat him in his weakest state ever. I'm sure when he came back into his prime, Batman would wipe the floor with him.

Some are mentioned in Asylum though. I'd love to see the Arkham version of Firefly and Man-Bat though. I'm sad to see no Prometheus or Maxie Zeus in your list. I'd also love to see an Arkham version of Catman.

Maybe they’ll bring him in for the next game. Sadly it’s a Silver Age prequel, and not a sequel. Maybe that’ll be a good thing – I envision a much larger city layout, divided into quadrants, where you change characters at different parts of the game (Batman, Nightwing, etc.) as they all gather to deal with a city-wide crisis – but I’d’ve much rather seen a continuation of the main story, especially with Azrael’s prophesy and Scarecrow’s coded threats, and so on.

I’m still really interested in how this game will actually function. Wayland, who now have everything up for pre-order, have a brief description of the game. It has a couple of details wrong (Strange didn’t extend Arkham Asylum to cover parts of the city – Arkham Asylum was abandoned after Poison Ivy tore it to bits in the first game, and there weren’t ‘thousands’ of people trapped inside it either) but it talks about Joker, Two-Face and the Penguin all making power plays and how you play as Batman trying to stop them.
I assume that you can play gang v gang, and not always hero v gang. And despite the fact that Nightwing never shows up during the game and Robin only has a cameo, I do hope we get other hero characters. Batman ain’t the only guy around who can punch a few thugs.

Nightwing and Robin were expanded with DLC challenge maps, and Robin was playable in the actual story of the Harley Quinns revenge DLC, so they're definitely available as Arkham City designed characters. I'd be surprised to not see them.

Nightwing was a giving, he comes out next month. It also never been said they have limited the characters to the Arkham games, just that it's the art style they are going for. There face book page makes it seem like the can pull from a wide base then just the games.

Yeah but the game is centred around the story for Arkham City, so while yeah they could go and grab Fire Fly or The Question, they probably won’t – ‘least not until they’ve done all the in-game stuff.
There’s heaps in AC that they can use. We still haven’t seen the Titan thugs, or Mr. Hammer and Mr. Sickle.

I hope for a focus on AC character too. I'm just pointing out they don't look limited to it, so there near endless growth from just the Bat's lines.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with wanting to know how a game works before taking the plunge with some expensive miniatures. It’s not whining to talk about it, it’s not bitching to demand it, and it’s certainly not fear.

Exactly.
With the price points that these models are at, it is not surprising at all that people might want to know a bit more about the system before investing.
Thankfully Battleroads made it hard to resist jumping in feet first with their sale, but if it wasn't for that, I would be waiting for the rules too!

Totally agree, I personally utterly LOVE the Joker crew and Harley and I am an average Batman Fan honestly. The way I did my sale as a business we may not make a lot of money but I wanted to make sure that anyone who wanted the stuff got it as no one else here in the states seems to have it. Even coolmini which is the main buyer of Knights Models here in the states doesn't have anything about it which is too bad. Sadly though I tried making posts about it on TGN but they won't seem to publish them hrmmmm, anywho HBMC just wants to wait for the rules and that's fine I can resepct that. For me I probably won't ever end up playing with any of these but I utterly love them and they scream paint me so that's why I am getting them, and that's why I will carry them.

Not really.
Their Star Wars line was totally not for any game that I could think of, but
they still produced and put out some nice minis for that. You could get Darth
Maul, some Jedi, Trade Federation droids...
Those were 28mm.
However, I don't know how successful those models were, sales-wise, so
maybe the models for their own sake approach didn't work so well.

Not good enough to justify renewing the licence, presumably.
When the Star Wars stuff first started coming out, I came across a few people talking abot buying them for use in the WotC game... but for most, the fact that the prepaint singles were mostly so much cheaper sort of kept that as an option for the real miniature fans. Those who didn't care about the models not being as well sculpted just went the cheaper option.
I would expect the Batman stuff is going to be up against the same thing... Heroclix is a heck of a lot cheaper.

Maybe that's why they're trying a game this time.
But if the game is good won't that just drive people to play it

The point was more that Knight Models are going to be up against those people who are interested in their rules, but find the Heroclix minis a more attractive option due to their price.
Batman is Batman. It doesn't seem like the specific miniature that KM are releasing would be that essential to the game.
That's the potential trap for anyone releasing a premium miniatures game in a setting for which there are other companies making similar miniatures. You have to bank on people liking your better quality miniatures enough to buy them instead of the cheaper alternatives.

Well, we were the first to offer them up for retail on our store here in the UK and are for sure going to back this range 100%... Absolutely love the models, not a huge gamer due to not much time or anyone to game with so will collect on looks alone.
Never really found the appeal though as far as Heroclix is concerned. Always looked like a game for children. Remember getting my son a transformer once that had a hexagon base style thingy and you clicked the base and numbers etc appeared. Solely purchased it because it reminded me of something children would play with.
So, I think Knight Models does not have to fear that people would go for the CHEAPER option when it comes to their new line of products! Just my thoughts anyways, especially judging by the success of this line on our sales this weekend!!
For those holding off to purchase this line, have no fear as we will be doing another sale ready for the release of the rules. Here you will be able to expect the same price as you can already see... The only thing we request from you guys is spread the word about us and like us on FaceHook and twitter...

There's truth in that and I wouldn't be that interested in it, if they would just use designs from the comics and the new 52. But they are making miniatures based on some of the greatest Batman designs in a long time. The Arkham games are fantastic and one of the things I like to much is the design. I can't wait for the Scarecrow and Mr. Freeze miniature.

The visual design of these models captures the game perfectly, so unless Clix does an Arkham Asylum/Arkham City line, then Knight Models wins hands down. I've been watching the increasing amount of Batman clix minis that TTGN has been previewing the past few months, and while some of them are nice I don't think I could use them in a game like this. They just seem... tacky. Cheap. And I wouldn't even know where to buy them. I want to see the rest of this range, as there are some great things that they haven't shown us yet (Freeze, Bane, Mr. Hammer/Mr. Sickle, Penguin and Two-Face, Titan Thugs, TYGER Guards, etc.).
