So... this is the "internets" that all of you have told me about...

This is the blorg on which I will post my jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring painting and modeling. Wear your diapers, gentlemen. Prepare yourselves for my greatness.

A few ground rules:

1. Not interested in GW hate. I can read any other post anywhere else here and get that garbage. I have worked for GW before. They have paid my rent and offered me healthcare. They can charge what they want for their products and I say, let the market decide.

2. Ice says you are pretty cool, so I don't need a second rule. This will be a place-holder for when I do.

3. GROWL!

A short history of my hobby career:

I have been into this hobby for going on 2 decades now. My main army is Space Wolves and has been since I saw one and bought the first Space Wolf codex (the first ever Codex, btw). I also have Warhammer FB Empire painted as Altdorf and Witch Hunters. I have an Executioners old school camo pattern Space Marine army I play once a year with the Wardens of the Maelstrom (you may have heard of them...). I have a burgeoning force of my own chapter of Space Marines called The Emperor's Fools. They are pink and yellow quartered. The impetus for this was because my 2 favorite colors are pink and yellow, I like how quartered marines look, and, apparently, I am a painting masochist. I have some embarrassingly badly painted Necromunda gangs. I also have a ridiculous amount of Warmachine Menoth and a small contingent of Cygnar. I am also a contributor to my and IceAngel's Space Ork WAAAAAGH!!! I also just randomly buy and paint any model that strikes my fancy.

So, without further ado, I will post a WIP of my new Model Emperor's Fools. I used a white undercoat and this made all the difference. I spent approx. 15 years without ever considering using a white undercoat, because in the early 90s when I started painting that was the du jour way to do it. In the early 90s I sucked at painting and it seems convenient enough to blame white undercoating. I would have 3 totally finished ones to show you, but Ice left his camera at someone else's house. And yes, the pictures were taken by him. And yes, I am posting this from his computer. Baby steps.

About the "without further ado" thing. Apparently that was as lie.

WITNESS AND WEEP! FOR ALL SHALL FEAR THE EMPEROR'S FOOLS! WE CAPER AND JEST FOR HIS AMUSEMENT!

DON THE MOTLEY!

so you are the mysterious "moonpie" IceAngel speaks of. Welcome.

I particularly like the "shiny" look the armour has, with the painted on glares. I don't see that very often.

I have added a chapter symbol and squad iconography. I also experimented with the Krylon spray matte. I like it. I need it for the base and the shoulder pad. I use a transfer that I paint over, so I ardcoated that and ardcoated the base ring, because the black kept rubbing off and looking godawful.

I have 2 more done. 2 more I have finished base-coating the armor on.

re: nobody- Yes. I do exist. I like to highlight up as high as possible. That usually being white. I even highlight my Wolves up to white. I'll get Ice to take pictures of my better ones.

Welcome to DakkaDakka! And now for the obligatory "have you thought about drilling that barrel?" and "you missed a mold line on the right side of the helmet". Some of the paint might be a little bit thick, but the neatness is spot on, the overall effect is great and the colour scheme is original without being jarring - and challenging (yellow, pink and quartered!) to boot - so kudos for that! I imagine they look awesome all laid out together. Looking forward to seeing more of you past and future work.

At long last you have started the journey towards the modern day

The Emperor's Fool looks great. I find it unusual to highlight so far (especially with white), but as Nobody mentioned it does add a particularly shiny appearance.

I used to use Krylon Matte, and it is passable for the most part. Recently, though, I got a pair of bad cans that had more of a satin finish than flat. I've since switched exclusively to Testors Dullcote. I find that the finish is beautifully flat, and I've not had a bad can yet. Its a bit more expensive than Krylon, but I find the results are far superior.

Im definitely looking forward to seeing some more of your stuff. Sounds like you've a lot to show!

Maybe one day we'll get you internet of your very own

Thanks for the advice on the DullCote, Ramos. I like highlighting to white and with white when I can, because I think it is pretty and because if you add white it means more light hits it in my head. It's one of those tricks I have devised for myself. Sort of like asking other people if this color goes with that.

Fett-I want that cake. I don't even like cake, but I want to eat that now.

Yeah, Tigerstein, I think I am a masochist. It isn't an easy scheme.

I have got 5 marines in the squad painted up. I have the other 5 built.

I'll have to get more pics taken. I need Ice's help with that. Apparently just staring at the minis and thinking positive thoughts doesn't get them uploaded to the interwebs.

I'd like to maybe show off some Fantasy stuff. If you look at Ice's Apocalypse battle pics-those are my Space Wolves. I'll get him to help me out. He's a chum like that.

Words are for heretics!

I have 6 marines in the squad painted up. I'll get pics up when I can. I painted the helmet on the sgt. red, which pleases me. I am having great fun actually using codex style patterns. I have never had a vanilla space marine army before outside of the executioners, and that army was specifically painted "old school" style.

The one element that is truly vexing me is the purity seals. I just don't know how to do them. I have done one with a red button and blue ribbon and one with a purple button and green ribbon just to be colorful. This isn't exactly working how I would like it to.

Also, in other news of how annoying quarter patterns are, I actually painted the wrong color on one of my beakies. Luckily I figure it out with just the basecoat of the yellow, but it did make me feel stupid-like those doctors that amputate the wrong limb. When this happens on my Empire, I just move on with life, but Space Marines have to be consistent.

Also, anyone have any good advice on how to achieve a perfect circle for a shoulder pad chapter symbol? For now, I am putting on an Imperial Fists chapter symbol and then painting over it.

More work later. Might be a week or two for pictures.

moonpie's P&M bl0rg-Stormcast Occasional Dalliance @ 2013/09/24 22:50:22

Post by: Gitsplitta

Very simple, take a little ball of Green Stuff, get your fingers wet and squish it onto the pad. Use a little tefflon shaper to smooth it out into a nice uniform circle. It's a lot easier than it sounds and you'll be getting raised, perfect circles in no time!

You can kind of see it on these figs.

Spoiler:

... and partially painted on this one.

No, actually, I'm going to give that a shot, Git.

The Chapter symbol I came up with is a gold circle containing a white triangle with an eye in it.

If I pull it off, I may also do it for the Executioners.

I think the purity seal quandary will present itself in a better light when I put up pictures of the ones I have painted. It just doesn't have a clear cut answer.

According to my girl, to whom I direct my color questions, the only colors that go with pink and yellow are grey, black, cream, and white, and gold. I have already got those colors in others spots. I get away with the red helmet on the sgt.. But when it comes to those silly purity seals....

Post by: moonpie

wow. I don't know that I deserve that, Git. I can hardly type through the tears...

As far as the highlight goes, that's how I do it.. I am not a "neat" painter. In fact, I was once told by another painter at the GW store here, "Wow, I like your painting style. It's very 'dirty'."

To which my response was, "Uh, thanks?"

It holds up better at the 3 foot rule, than it does blown up 4 times actual size. Wait til I post some Space Wolf pics. The highlights I do on them I would describe as "impressionist."

If I have gotten nothing out of this, then I have found where I have accidentally splotched paint where it doesn't belong. Ice goes, "Why is there yellow paint on the drum in back?" Response is, "Cause I screwed up..."

I still have the Tzeentch Lord on Disc to paint. I am in the stare at it and try to figure out what to do phase. It's built, but bare. I don't know if I want to do white or black undercoat. I am leaning towards white. Those are the guys I am trying to get the closest to "Golden Demon" caliber. Plus, it's going to be colorful and I have to take my time and do some calculations before I tackle colors.

It's rad to see the militia all lined up. I have quite a few more to paint with them. The fantastic thing about WHFB is loving kitbashing 50 dudes and then ranking them up, such that you only see their heads and arms... Ice didn't even know I had a whole Empire Army ready to go. As soon as I find my Beastmen book, I will have to convince him to play a game.

Also, Git, I don't keep them in the bathroom. That's just silly.

Check out the gallery. There is more that I didn't splash all over the forum page.

Snrub - The symbol is sort of an Illuminati/Back of the Dollar bill thing. It is a gold disc with a pyramid with an eye in it.

Does it make sense as to being connected with jesting? No. Is it pretty easy to paint? Yes.

I'm also a closet conspiracy theorist, so it sort of tickles me.

I may get some Sons of Horus guys with the eyes and use them as Honor Guard at some later date.

Yeah, my friend down here paints like that. His stuff would look rather crude magnified and posted on dakka... but on the tabletop it jumps right off the battlefield at you. It's really good.

If anything, my painting is just the opposite. Looks good on dakka but doesn't hold up as well at 3' where you can't see all the detail.

Post by: IceAngel

As much as I'd like to see pink and yellow drop pods, I'd prefer them to be space wolf colors because they would then get used. You never play anything but your wolves, and you don't have enough fools to field them even with pods. Your wolves could really use the pods too. You have like 6000 points of space wolves and only one vehicle. A lone dreadnought.

moonpie's P&M bl0rg-Stormcast Occasional Dalliance @ 2013/10/03 07:25:24

Post by: moonpie

It's a very pretty dreadnought...

Yeah, I'm for sure going to do them as wolves.

The plan is to paint them up super weathered and beaten up. A lot of burn from atmospheric entry and ack-ack taken on the way in. All the wolves are painted as pristine and untouched, so the plan is that they are all just FOB(fresh off the boat).

Also, I am deathly afraid of painting anything larger than a terminator, so I'll obfuscate my crap painting with weathering.

Also, I am kind of inspired after having just watched Gravity. If there are any space nerds out there(har har) you should check it out. I just "tested" the IMAX content here at work and it is balls-out rad. I want to watch it again with our DBOX motion seats.
I just hope we don't have motion sick people ralfing all over the place. I hate cleaning up puke.
In actual painting news, I had 2 Cawdor minis unpainted left around from the 90s. When I next catapult pics onto this page we can do a comparison of how far my painting skills have come in 15 years...

It's way more of a Sandra Bullock movie than a George Clooney movie. We've done gangbusters for it. Hamilton County, Indiana loves them some Sandra Bullock.

I did a demo for the IMAX audience where I took out a tape measure and measured out 52" to represent a big TV and said, "For all your friends waiting for this to come out on DVD."

It got some laughs compared to our 4 story tall IMAX screen.

Speaking of, I have to go shut that big boy down. I'm running a little behind tonight...

Thanks for doing that, Ice.

Thanks for the compliments.

I am not totally sold on the purple lips. Originally they were pink, but that looked like a blackface minstrel show. Which is not good.

I have a couple others done and then I am taking a break for a bit on the Escher. Lately I have been justifying purchasing an X-Box 360.

No, I got the X-Box 360 maybe a little less than a year ago. I got it because X-Com came out and that is the main game I play. I'll be getting the expansion in November for sure. I am looking at the One because I am a huge fan of Assasin's Creed and I adored the naval stuff which the new one looks to have in spades.

For those of you holding your breath for another post, I apologize for having killed you over a month ago.

What I am working on is as follows:

Built 25 new spearmen for my Empire army.

Pinned down a Reikland color scheme for one of my swordsman units based off of some Bretonnian men at arms I had laying around since the days I worked at GW and could at random say, "Hey, maybe I'll just pick up this battalion box. No biggie!" Those were the days...

I bought that space marine air force box. Need to cut out and clean the bits so Ice can build them. This means I technically have all the models necessary for my Adepticon army. w00t.

Hopefully painting that model will make me say, "Ok, let's do this camo thing one more time."

No pictures.

Maybe I'll finish the Emperor's Fools tactical squad I got 90% completed too... Ho hum.

For now I'll just have to content myself with QCing a certain movie that might be about dwarves and a dragon in a brand new Dolby Atmos theater. What an awful job, but someone has to do it.

Of course, this brand new top of the line sound system is having sync issues, so every other show about 20mins to 2 hours in goes all kung fu movie on us.

New technology is both cool and sucks.

I remember really being excited about the DnD movie. This is why we can't have nice things.

In an effort to complete my Adepticon army I have built and primed an Emperor's Fools Librarian and an as yet unnamed Chapter marine for a swap with Ice....

So, there.

If anyone has the 2004-2005 mini catalog from GW, you can see a pic of an Executioner painted in camo. I think mine is actually better than GW's.

Also, in order to finish my Adepticon army, I need someone to donate me a Warhammer Forge Basilisk and a Merwyrm. I don't make the rules, but contribute to the cause, I know you all have it in you.

I'll try to get some pics taken of something on Wednesday, because a blog without pics turns out to suck.

BEHOLD! LET AWE AND MAJESTY HEREWITH COMMENCE!

This is the captain I will be using in my Adepticon list. I decided to make him a footslogger, because I nixed the Vanguard squad in favor of another Tactical squad. This is, of course, for tactical reasons, not because I already have the squad built and painted. I also have those four heavy bolter buy above plus one on the road to painting. I have been trying to get through Vulkan Lives, so I have been doing a lot of painting instead. Nik Kyme is less balls than normal, but still patently balls.

The Emperor's Fools Librarian has a Grey Knights torso back. I have two more of those I am going to use for either Rune Priests or more Librarians. It turned out pretty rad. I want to be able to use those battlegroups of 6 Psykers in the next Apocalypse games. The blue just kept getting lighter as I went on. The horn sculpting on the skulls isn't quite as balls as I thought it would look. That was a pain...

Ok, so there! Pictures! Feast your eyes, you illiterate swine!

Like the fool a lot moonpie. Nice work on the highlighting and very clean paint job.

moonpie's P&M bl0rg-Stormcast Occasional Dalliance @ 2014/02/05 23:25:43

Post by: moonpie

Hey, thanks, Git! Clean is not the word usually applied to my painting... I think the white primer actually helps. It is really messy until it isn't. The highlights require less coats too. Overall less paint for more coverage. Back in the day we used to just paint white paint on and the pictures of my old Cawdor gangers testify to the efficacy of that technique.

The highlight on the back of that right leg sucks, but I'm not 100% on how to fix it. I didn't think it would be too visible until Ice decided to take a pic at exactly that angle.

Your IG objective inspired me to paint the gold on the captain. I think I am going to go back and add it to all the marines I am bringing to Adepticon, so even if they aren't new models, they'll have new paint on them. The orange and flesh purity seals I think I am going to make universal too. They look better than my old "tiger stripe" ones.

moonpie's P&M bl0rg-Stormcast Occasional Dalliance @ 2014/02/06 05:21:03

Post by: moonpie

@ Snrub: Yeah, he isn't technically a "loyalist." It's kind of, um, complicated...yeah...

He's an Executioner mid-Badab War, so he's sort of killing other Space Marines. And by sort of I mean is actually killing other Space Marines. But only Howling Griffons and Space Sharks and Novamarines and Excorcists and Salamanders and, well, quite a few other chapters. The Tiger Claws called in a debt and I don't know if you've ever been in debt, but a man's got to honor an obligation.

In the end, the Executioners did get the lightest punishment.

@Git: tru.

Thanks guys! Still some work left to do, but I almost never post WIP, so that's what that looks like.

Those FW heavy bolters are sort of addicting.

Thanks for putting those up, Ice.

I am wanting to do the Stormraven, but it is straight awful priming weather. I've been doing it in my apartment...which gets me high.

moonpie's P&M bl0rg-Stormcast Occasional Dalliance @ 2014/02/09 06:22:09

Post by: Ramos Asura

I do all my priming in the basement during the winter (right in my room, too...). If you can manage it, I have a setup that might help:
I put a furnace filter on a box fan (held by a bit of tape) so that the fan sucks air thru the filter. I put my spray box in front of that assembly, then turn on the fan and spray. This gets you a bit of airflow, as well as eliminating overspray (my dad's one condition for letting me spray indoors ) Provided you dont go crazy with the priming, you should benefit from the increased airflow.

moonpie's P&M bl0rg-Stormcast Occasional Dalliance @ 2014/02/11 02:23:53

Post by: moonpie

Yeah, I just primed it in the living room. Then I open up my sliding glass door. Physics makes it so the air moves around pretty well when it's 16 outside and 75 inside. I also get to do this because my apartment is GAS HEAT PAID!!!

I used the Army Painter Uniform Grey. I used Administratum Grey and then Astronomicon Grey. It's getting there. I worked on it for as long as it takes to watch Transformers and got the grays and the first coat of Necron Abyss blue camo.

3 more movies later and the Storm Raven is done. I'm not going to say it's good. It's not completely awful. It's definitely done. I have those 5 heavy bolter guys to do. I have the gold to add and purity seals to redo. Hoping we'll have an upsurge in motivation. That Storm Raven took it out of me.

Got to go. Inventory doesn't count itself.

There may have been a construction issue that left the landing gear out in the front. My bad. Otherwise I think the flier turned out great. I will strongly disagree with Solar and his painted cockpit opinion as well. I've always found the painted cockpits more appealing then the clear ones. In Moonpie's situation the painted cockpit breaks up the camo very nicely.

Assault Squad

Devastators

Hey, thanks, guys. The Sternguard were kind of a lot of fun to paint. They have so much cool stuff on them, but man is it a lot of junk to deal with. Until I get in a mood to deal with the Space Wolf paint scheme again, I am going to stick with them. Unfortunately, my hobby budget is pretty low end right now. I'm going to try to sell off some old crap I haven't done anything with in years. If you know anyone who wants a mess of metal minotaurs or a ridiculously large Menoth army, then I would love to sell it and pick up a battleforce or something. Say what you will about the new paints. but I dig these particular combos. And on the subject of that, does anyone else have big problems with Reiklander flesh wash or whatever its called. I have 1 bottle of Ogryn Flesh and I am hoarding it. I can get the new stuff to work in small areas, but if it pools or I haven't shaken it for a straight minute, it is balls and leaves this chalky garbage in the crevices.

moonpie's P&M bl0rg-Stormcast Occasional Dalliance @ 2014/03/15 15:02:21

Post by: Ramos Asura

Its the new wash formulations. In addition to some not matching color (Agrax Earthshade in particular), their behavior is trash. Tide marks, insanely fast settling, white residue, improper finish...

New GW paints are massively hit and miss for me. Mostly miss. The washes kill me though
Stretch the old stuff for as long as you can- Then jump to another company for washes! Secret Weapons washes and Army Painter are pretty good for em. The latter has spot on replacements for Badab black and Devlan (apparently, I havent actually tried it)

@night: Hey, thanks a lot! I don't know why it works, but I really like it. I always loved quartered schemes and tried it with my favorite 2 colors, and it somehow works. I think it has absolutely zero to do with color theory.

My girlfriend was talking about my colorblindness to someone at work. "So, he can't see colors?" "No, he can see yellow and pink." "What are his favorite colors?" *pause she gives in conversation to let you prepare to feel really stupid* "Yellow and pink."

Edit for news: I decided to make the High Executioner captain model that was originally to be an Executioner into a Fool. His shoulder pad with the assault symbol on it makes me want to make him into a ridiculous assault squad sgt or a vanguard sgt. Then I would use the vanguard kit to make a rad looking lord with a cool weapon combo. I am thinking either power fist/lightning claw or something that would represent a relic weapon.

Also, on painting news-Painted the "High Executioner" captain model as a regular Assault squad Sgt, if a flashy one. What's so bad about a $25 squad sergeant?

I'm going to use the Iron Halo jump pack to make a Captain armed with a power fist and lightning claw. Vanguard legs and chest seem to make it work.

They are painted in a desert style. I converted a lot of them to be smoking-I thought it was clever. They are all metal models, because I stopped playing Warmachine after they started making plastic models. The plan was to work with Ice to get it all sold off after Adepticon.

@Snrub - Thanks. I thought it worked pretty well too. I was going to save it for a Space Wolf, but...I didn't. I was also going to use to original head but it had a bubble at the end of its nose I didn't want to bother fixing.

@Git - Just what I was going for.

This is the first model I have ever painted the head and backpack separate of the body. It made things both easier and not easier.

I am doing the same thing for another jump pack officer and I painted the wrong half of the jumpack pink. I haven't painted since, because I feel so incredibly stupid about it. I am going to just try to reprime it.

disclaimer - I know nothing about warmachine. I took these pictures after sorting everything that Moonpie had brought over by weapons. Something that you may not get in the pictures is that nearly every model has a cigarette or cigar or some form of smoking paraphernalia.

That's my entry in the Crystal Brush. Pretty good pictures of it actually. Looks better than in person. They spelled my name wrong, which sucks.

Adepticon was fun. This was the first year I got some serious compliments about the camo scheme. People really were digging the look of the Stormraven, even if I think it is actually pretty sloppy. I think I will celebrate by never painting that scheme again.

Got some Omega. That makes me happy. Cherry crepes FTW!

Good hanging out with da boyz!

Nice to be home, though. Looking forward to a bed that doesn't emerge from a couch...

The history and traditions of the Emperor's Fools:

The Emperor's Fools are a third founding chapter. They descend from the Excoriators and from them the Imperial Fists.

Sons of Dorn and Sons of the Emperor before him, the Fools are a plagued and guilt-ridden band. Within the Excoriators there was a subset that was constantly plagued with visions. In their dreams and during their waking hours, they would constantly relive the Crippling of the Emperor. Even in mid-battle they would see the broken Sanguinius beautiful, broken, and bloody on the floor. Beside him was the corpse of the devil Horus the Betrayer. They would lose their breath and become slack jawed idiots at the sight of the great Emperor gasping for breath and mortally wounded. Astartes, immune to fear, were not immune to grief. They would blubber and fail, useless in a fight-reliving the failure of their great primarch.

These poor souls were quarantined. Put aside. What was to be done with these men, broken by a grief that was not their doing. A century passed and the broken men accumulated. Not only from the Excoriators, but occasionally from the others of Dorn's get.

Under the harsh atmosphere of Venus in the boiling temperatures they were left to burn in a facility that would best be described as a prison or mayhap an asylum.

What were the Lords of Terra to do with these hermits, recluses, and madmen? Nothing was the answer. Much needed to be done at the time and they were a difficult situation that was best ignored until it dealt with itself...

At that time came upon the burned soil of Venus an Epistolary of the Librarius of the Imperial Fists known as Syvarran. Catatonic and drooling, one would not think that there would be much of a future to this once bloody-handed psyker. In this, one would be right, but only for a time. Years did Syvarran lay in his own filth and relive over and over again the death of the man he swore his life to protect, useless in his grief and misery, until he was starved to skin and bone.

It was on a propitious day as seen by the stars on Mother Terra that he raised himself from his soiled bedroll. The servitors who doted on the poor recluses counted him as another loss for he decided to take The Walk.

An Astartes is a being endowed with greater endurance and survivability than any normal man, but even that has its limits. There is near no breathable air and insurmountable heat on the nearest planet to Terra. At times, a Space Marine would gain enough wherewithal to walk out onto the face of Venus towards suffocation and burning death. This was part of the reason that these Rejects were put on this particular place. It was a place where a problem could solve itself.

So it was that Syvarran went out for his Walk. Thought never to return. He left the refuge with only a shawl to cover his body of skin and bones, leaning on a cane and rambling about loss and suffering, tears streaming down his eyes. Surely even this great warrior, who had stood at the gates of the Imperial Palace at the Siege of Terra had seen his last days..

It was 3 days and 3 Venusian nights that he lived in the unendurable hell of pressure and heat and suffocation. 3 days and nights on the lumbering planet that saw it walk around Sol for 3 full rotations and more. If the smog and smoke and particulates in the Terran air would have allowed them to see, then maybe a single Lord of Terra would have looked upon the brightest light in the night sky and thought about his grief and sacrifice. But no light would show and no thought was given. It was an unnoticed loss like the skin that flakes off our species at any given hour turned to dust.

But dust he was not. Before his coming, for 3 Terran days and 3 Terran nights all of those who were in that brutal gulag screamed and wailed, crying themselves bloody and wilted. All but 999 poor sons of Dorn died over that time. On the morning of the third day their weeping turned to laughter. Desiccated and emaciated, the corpse men began to dance and caper. The servitors, had they any thoughts of their own, would have been confused. Instead they obeyed, ignoring the revelry in their ignorance the same as they ignored the tears and wails.

Then it was that the psyker returned. He was black as pitch and bent over, but he was alive...and smiling. All the men remaining went with him, smiling and chuckling.

Then was it that the Lords of Terra could no longer ignore the man, for he appeared on their very doorstep, with his 999 behind him. On the trip to their nearest neighbor they had sucked down sustenance between guffaws and now aided by their legendary physiology were returned to their vigor.

"I am Sol, who was Syvarran. I am the Lightbringer and the Jester King. The Emperor wishes me and my fellows dance and caper for his amusement. He so dearly needs some cheerful fellows to bring a smile to his face."

It was with those words that the first of The Emperor's Fools first donned the motley. Like anything long forgotten and brought back to remembrance, they dismissed quickly the Fool and his Fellows, giving him all that he needed to get him gone. Armor, ships, weapons and all the accoutrement of an Adeptus Astartes chapter were given and received with the commission that they should kill and die in His name.

They hoped that this would be the final end, but still to this very day, thousands of years later, the jesters still jest, laughing not to cry, and bring Death to the Emperor's foes.

Not one to nitpick a good piece of fiction... but doesn't the definition of "doting" pretty much preclude the possibility of the dotee lying in their own filth for any length of time??

Sorry Moonpie but you've been 'Gitpicked' ( something not right about me typing that).

Like the story. Thou the 'dancing and Capering' is more likely to get you burned as a heretic in the world of the Imperium than all the accoutrements of an Adeptus Astartes.

But as a Lamenter player, were too busy lamenting to care! Looking forward to you expanding the Fools.

@Ice: Yeah, it took a few beers to let it free, but it finally started to break free. I don't know where the Venus thing came from, but I like it. And for sure they'll have chaplains. Maybe the inspiring sermons will sound a little different than your normal chapter.

@Git: not to nitpick a nitpick, but ain't nobody said nothing about "doting" that I reread.

@Solar: They can try to accuse the Fools of Heresy or whatever, but I think there is an acceptance or even expectation of weirdness in the Astartes. Look at the Mortificators, Blood Drinkers, Flesh Tearers, Lamenters, and so on. If the Lamenters can be sad, why can't the Fools be exuberant and boisterous? Also, "dance and caper" is code for burn, crush and destroy.

You and you cryptic messages! Thought for a minute I'd envision you doing Chapter Master Miley and the humourous twerkinators bodyguard/back up dancers.

Great...now I should be burned a Heretic! Curse you !!!!!!!!!

@Solar: Good for you for knowing twerking. You're hip. You're with it. As for a new project, I think I have a spare StormTalon lying around. My drop pods are tagged for Space Wolf use. That's my largest army that exists on Dakka purely as far off mid battle shots on Ice's gallery.

For them I have a conversion idea for a Power Maul using "The Lion's Tooth" which is a relic mentioned in the Arjac Rockfist overpriced signed book I wouldn't have bought at Adepticon had I known I was about to get root canal and crack a tire rim. It is Lion El Johnson's tooth that Leman Russ knocked out surrounded by a giant ruby. Rad.

Kind of. I'm hoping it'll be rad, but I'm afraid it will invalidate some figures or weapon combos on my termies. I have a plan to equip some new ones with chainfist/wolf claws cause that a BA combo. I have a Skyclaw squad and about 15 grey hunters waiting in the wings, but I haven't gotten back into the swing of the paint scheme and am sort of afraid I won't be able to match it again...

You should grab Tyberios and paint him all SW like for maximum chainclawfist power. He has no real Shark iconography on him (the little fins on the claws are it, and even those are pretty generic).

I'm hopeful for it. Losing Jaws sucks purely because it was just so fun to suck down Carnifexes. pop pop pop!

Hope they come out with some clever powers.

We have a new guy at our Indy GW store and he's cool. He used to run the Nottingham store and he knows all the big guys over at GW. If you're waiting for me to be the next rumor guy, don't hold your breath. He didn't bite even on the Gorkanaut, so apparently he knows what an NDA is all about. His models are also quite gorgeous.

Solar don't hold your breath. Moonpie painting or even building any vehicle is rather, unheard of. The fact that the Executioners ever received anything with an armor value is still a surprise to me.

You know what, this would be more convincing if it came from Moonpie himself.

Moonpie, you've been playing Space Wolves for many many years now, would you care to tell Solar Lion how many vehicles of ANY kind you have completely built and painted. Wait, let me rephrase that. How many vehicles do you have put together? Hold up, one more time. How many space wolf "things" do you own in any form, that can be considered a vehicle?

Lets also keep in mind he probably has 15k worth of space wolves.
Spoiler:
If you ever fight Moonpie's Space Wolves, plasma cannons will quickly win you the game.

I will compose my reply in Juvyk, one of the languages of the Rout:
"GRRR! SNARL! RAWR!! GRR! ARG!

To translate to rest of you: I have indeed in my previous Space Wolves army had vehicles. I don't remember how many vehicles it had or how many I built. Probably at least one, because I hated it. Those were when my paint scheme was entirely drybrushed. They also paid my rent once, when I sold them to a crafty Brit.

Right now I have no vehicles for any army other than Executioners, which I'm not totally pleased with. I have 2 drop pods and a Storm Talon that could conceivably happen.

I do have a dreadnought. So..BAM! Suck my hull points!

I would be okay if special codices were able to exchange their rolled powers for an "alternative Primaris Power", but that's living in a world where I can have my cake and eat it too.

moonpie's P&M bl0rg-Stormcast Occasional Dalliance @ 2014/06/10 17:14:25

@Solar: I think a Fools Drop Pod would look pretty cool too. How do you do the alternating colors though? There are four sides. Where does the split happen?

@ MissDee: Working on more. I've got an assault squad built except for the jump packs. I primed up 6 tac squad with a librarian. That's on the first coat of pink. I've only screwed up where the quartering goes like twice or three times.

@Alfndrake: I'm pretty confident they'll have a cool new set of powers. I'm hoping they still give a lot of good anti-psyker stuff, because that was one of the things I liked about the last codex.

My plan is to paint the jump packs separate from the bodies at least until I get it mostly basecoated and shaded. Anybody have a good way to paint loose jump packs?

I would quarter them at the doors. that way they are much more unique than using the supports.

As for JP.. I built a 'jig' .. ok it's really a plastic pipe that has paperclips sticking out of them. I glue a JP ( or anything ) to the end ( superglue) and paint. This way I can do multiples quickly and not handle the part. I do this with heads, arms , backpacks dread weapons ect. I'll varnish them as well before gluing in place.

Always attach the Paper Clip end to a part you will be gluing anyway. For small pieces I drill a small hole to help hold the clip ( like in the backpack back - where you’ll never see it.)

I have several of these 'jigs' so I can paint and let them dry while I work on another component.

Good thing you don't work there anymore.

Thoughts on the flying wolf boat chariot being lead by wolves?

It was a pretty great job actually. It was the only one to ever give me benefits, actually quite good health insurance, until I got promoted to my current position. It was a little weird though. Our training manual was a codex and had pictures of space marines.

As far as the chariot goes...I have only seen a crappy little pic of it, but it's not my favorite. I also don't really go in for the Thunderwolf Cav either. The new, which I guess I isn't so new anymore, Fenrisian Wolves are BA, but riding a giant wolf? Not so much.

The Logan Model looks rad, but I wish they would have kept the same dynamism as the old model had. How awesome was it to have a termie in a full tilt sprint?

The new flyer I actually totally dig. The gun boat is based on the same principle of the A-10 Warthog aka let's build a BA gun first priority, second priority is oh I guess it's a plane too so let's figure out how to make it fly. The troop carrier is totally awesome as well, like a long ship.

We'll see how it looks when I get the WD or see it in person. Yes, I do still buy the White Dwarfs.

Had a battle at GW yesterday. Warriors of Chaos v. my Empire. Got beat up on. Did a little bit of my own beating.

More images in gallery I just created.

Hopefully it will create some excitement about having fully painted minis on the field. It's just way better that way.

I see you caved an put foliage on your tree? Are there any more battle pictures?

I just checked out the newest pictures of Logan's Sled, not really impressed. If I had to pick a mode of transportation, given the space wolf options it would be one of their new fliers or a land raider. The more I think about it, it does make total sense that you would like it. It is completely impractical, ridiculous, and yet has a very old school 40k feel to it. Most importantly, no one else likes it, there for you will fall in love with it. I can't wait to see you get one and cover it with corpses and woodland creatures and random other bits and bobs.

WAIT! Give it the pink and yellow treatment. Turn that into an Emperor's Fools chariot. Slap a dreadnought on that and have it pulled by unicorns.

Further news: I traded out a bunch of old stuff for some new stuff. Ice is going to be busy putting together 2 Stormfangs and 3 more drop pods. Bam! I'll take care of the 10 termies and 2 new Space Wolf dreadnoughts. I know I screwed up my bartering because guy just went with what I said. As in zero bartering, just, boy this dude misjudged what he had here. But, oh well.

I also got the new Space Wolves Codex and it screw over quite a few of my termies. My storm shield/pw termies now just can't get off the boat. Sad day. I am not a big fan of retrofitting old models that are already done. (Let's be honest-90% done)

Who has commandeered Moonpie's account!?

You willing obtained more drop pods? Is this to keep your others company in their current unbuilt state? And more terminators? I think may have more of an issue then I do with my jump packs. You really are a dark angel player at heart any way. You play your space wolves like a deathwing army.

Either way I can't wait to get a hold of those new ships. They look cool. I should have them built in no time. I think it may be time to start a small wager as to how long it takes you to actually paint them though.

My guess eighteen months. Oh and that's to a 80% completion. Moonpie never completes a project, as previously mentioned.

Taylor is excited to cut out the parts.

I think these new Termies will concentrate on combi-weapons. I am thinking of combi-meltas and storm shields. Pop out of the pod, blap the baddie and then be in front to take the hit, countercharge with the CC guys.

I take sever umbrage about the Dark Angels comment.. Unfortunately, Logan got changed, so my termies will likely have to be unbound.

That's the plan. I'm building up some termies now. Into the 30s on them I think. The plan is to maybe bring some over to Ice's tomorrow. It's his birthday tomorrow, so be aware.

Maybe he can put together my air force.

I was going to wait for an airbrush to start painting, but who am I kidding? I'm scrambling to keep my power on, I can't invest that much money for the foreseeable future. I do, however, have big rowdy brushes.

Also, has anyone seen the new WFB stuff coming out? Nagash is beast! His LTs are rad! New spirit host models! Too cool! Maybe it can sway some people to the dark side?

Quite right, quite right! Passive aggressive mucking about is one of my pet peeves on internet forums, and while I was trying to be somewhat tactful I see that it was a pretty poor and thinly-veiled attempt. So let's fix that now.

This model is bad, for reasons I and others have already stated. Not as bad as the old Nagash model, but bad. I don't quite know why people can look at that pic, avoid seeing the obvious deficiencies, and instead applaud it as a fantastic design. I can only guess that, yes, their judgement is impaired by a number of factors, including:

A) The near-legendary status of Nagash in the real world (of Warhammer players, at least) as well as the WaFaBa world; the poor reception of the previous model (going so far as to 'not count' in some minds, I'd guess) and the long period without an official, in-production model or up-to-date rules. The thing is, the return of Nagash is a fairly momentous occasion in the game (and as desperate as Primarch models: I seem to recall a similar studio attitude about not bringing them [back] in-game because of their sheer power and godlike status. Same reason the C'tan were downgraded to 'shards'.) but that doesn't automatically mean that the long-anticipated model is good. It merely means that the long-anticipated model exists.

B) Passive or even bad attributes that get confused for 'good design'. Size, for one. GW players seem to be especially prone to the old jokey male stereotype that 'big toys are better'; only in this case it gets applied to more literal toys (and hats) rather than cars or power tools.
Also, the misconception that 'covered with detail' = 'good sculpting'. Again, that doesn't indicate that good sculpting is present, only that there's a lot of sculpting present. I've seen non- and ex-GW gamers complain about how the amount of fiddly detail on some GW models takes away the pleasure of painting, and I can't disagree. In addition, there's the nature of the detail: from here it basically looks like gothic or venetian plate armour utterly cluttered and caked with bones. Bonez bonez bonez. This is not creative or imaginative. It's only the relative lack of head bones that prevents it being the complete apotheosis of one of the aspects (miniature design) that makes GW the laughing stock of the rest of the wargaming world.
Lastly, for this point, another of my pet peeves: a whole lot of wibbly, finicky detail meant to wow the credulous observer and distract them from the fact that it's a lot of superficial dressing over an also-unimaginative and pedestrian design. So he's finishing the casting of a powerful incantation. You can't see that, All you can see is him just standing there like a lemon, with one hand pointed skywards. How many other GW models, especially characters, are and were posed in the same way? The only thing that'd make it more cliched is if he did the Captain Morgan pose with one foot resting on a rock. Or a skull.
And that's not even touching the "buy this it's kewl and it'll win you loads of games!" rules.

C) The infantilised nature of GW that seems to be lapped up by it's fanboys. The attitude among 20-30 year-olds that GW's increasingly teen-targeted ranges have the bestest setting and bestest models and bestest rules, and how blessed you are to just sit there and allow GW to plop these jewel-like items of wonder in your lap (in exchange for scads of cash in excess of what similar wondrous jewel-like items cost) rather than bother with all that boring effort of taking control of your gaming and increasing your awareness outside the GWetto. The attitude that minis are just better if they're blinged up and badazz, dusted in skullz and spikez, looking more and more like kids' action figures. The attitude that the minis should have so many beneficial extra rules, (super)powers and arbitrary exceptions that sound more and more like a schoolyard game of bang-I-shot-you-nuh-uh-I-have-super-ultra-mega-forcefields-nuh-uh-I-have-hyper-uber-handwavium-bullets-that-blow-up-super-ultra-mega-forcefields, all shoved in to make you coo at it as if it means something interesting or ingenious or halfway mature, and make them appealing (to buy); and that all this cramming of complications, patches, speedbumps and OTT whims somehow makes Warhammer 'balanced' and 'competitive'.
All these attitudes that foster GW's attitudes, to the point where the upper management call you - YOU - sheep, that will buy any old crap they put out. Where 'the GW hobby is buying GW products'. Where they shaft the retailers and customers alike, worldwide, and try to do the same to component manufacturers, authors, and whoever else wanders into their narrow field of vision. All this uncritical - or worse - critical but otherwise unconditional hoovering-up of GW's offerings, to the point that GW and fans have become stuck in some vicious circle where worsening prices; bloated, planned-obsolescence rules; and goofy, lazy models are not only seen as normal but as a good thing by some. I've said elsewhere that GW is like the Justin Beiber of wargaming: widely popular and can at least carry a tune, but marketed to kids, churns out cheesy pablum, gobs on it's fans, and increasingly believes it's own hype and doesn't give a gak for anyone else. Only now have enough people grown up, wised up and had enough of GW's shenanigans to make a difference, but leaving GW so spoilt and inbred that it has little idea and little hope of turning round, becoming more mature and reasonable, or fixing itself in some way.

If you squee like a fanboy over this model just because it's there, it's big, it's covered in bones, and it has broken rules, you're still perpetuating that circle. Or - since the circle's collapsing anyway - the perception of GW gamers as brainwashed manchildren, even among other tabletop wargamers (who still play with toy soldiers!) with a more balanced hobby - which might still include GW games. If you don't like the thoughts that GW is up a creek, that your most beloved games are riddled with problems that either don't go away or are replaced or even added to with different problems, or that meany people laugh because you gleefully line up to empty your wallets to receive those problem games and shonky models, maybe it's not entirely down to GW, elitist grognards, or the fascist public. Maybe you should occasionally take a moment to look and consider.

'Cos Your Opinions Are Bad.

So, I see that talking about the new Nagash model. And, because of the way I am, which may be wrong, I wanted to tear him down and burn him. Because I am a bully, I guess. I just don't get these haters at all. I don't like them hacking down what is the most exciting thing in a game I love since the new edition. I have to restrain myself and just post here, because otherwise I will go full attack dog. I checked his posts, looked into what he had to say on other places. Posts are either haterade on GW(concentrating on using the world infantile) and advice. There was one attaboy that I think also had advice to it. I don't mind advice per se, but not when you have 8 pics in your gallery and exactly zero are of finished models you have created. He does have two published models. One is a professor in a coat. It had a hand bit that was mentioned in text but not shown that had a pipe that I would steal for an Empire character if it worked and looked good. The other is an actually pretty endearing halfling sitting on a rock. So, good for him. Otherwise....

Oh and Knightley said hi to him. But Knightley also is really friendly. I usually have to get paid or have otherwise something to gain from being friendly. Bless his heart.

Why are you here? What is your point? I want to go to a place called DakkaDakka and talk trash exclusively? Why? Why? Why?

"What a carpy pose!" For real? What is he supposed to do a handstand, be flipping the bird, riding a skateboard? For the love of Sigmar the model is suspended by corpselight floating like frigging superman reading a book that is staring back at him!

GAR! What does GW have to do? It is unlike anything that has ever been seen in a wargame model before. It has pushed the bounds further than anything previous to it.

I've been into the hobby for 2 decades now. I worked with the company when we had a hidden away OOP chaos bike character I can't remember the name of and can't easily search, but know that he was god awful. That was ten years ago. Now, the worst model that can be found is Logan on his chariot, which is arguably by if only because I will argue it is good just to be contrary.

I'm losing the point here. Nagash is also good because he is big. Yes, size matters, gentlemen. Again with the pushing of boundaries. As a painter and modeler it is just amazing to me. One dummy on that stupid thread says, "but were wud I store it?"

FRAGGLEROCK, YOU FOOL!(rules against cursing I seem to remember) Store it is a display case, moron. Store it where you can show off the week of actual hours you spent on it. $105 bucks for that much enjoyment time building and painting isn't a bad deal. It's 10 Adult tickets at the best and busiest theater in the Indianapolis area. That's 20 hours on average and you haven't bought popcorn. And you would buy popcorn. Just smell it. You know you want it. Just buy it. You'll need a drink to wash it down too.

Looked back at the above spoiled post for a little more impetus and I stumble upon pablum. Thanks for that. I needed someone to wast their time writing that word for me. That is for sure a rumor. And infantalizing? He sheathes his sword in skin. In a skin scabbard. If you don't think that is rad, then keep buying models that give you the option of a revolver, a pipe, or oooh a sciency thingamambob. Maybe he would be less infantile if he was sitting on a rock. That would be more dynamic and better pose.

And the rules? You mean the rules that were published in a $4 White Dwarf and are included in the box? Yeah, they are gnarly. But that along with the hugeness and meanness of it make it that much cooler to me as an Empire player. I want to try to kill that thing! If I pull it off with my ragtag Sigmarite cult with its contingents of paid state troops and drunken commanders, then I am BEAST. I kind of care that it is balanced. I way more care that it is cool. It is cool that the battle report(which I mostly read) had the near full complement of the Studio TK army getting whipped by him single-handedly. Which is a scenario from the book. Get some. That, btw, is the type of stuff you get in the mag when you don't steal it from BOLS a week before it comes out. As an aside-Visions is cool. Hope it doesn't go away.

I was a part of the Storm of Chaos campaign. I liked it, but it had problems that make sense that you don't involve the public in changing the story official. It was exciting but needed retconned. Needed it. This is a similar type of worldshaker, but I feel better about how it is being done, because it can be accompanied by a coherent set of rules and models(RAWR they just want to sell models! What jerks! - Come to my theater and see how long it takes me to sell you a movie ticket, dummy. Second sentence after hi, do you have your loyalty card? In fact, if you don't buy a ticket, I will throw you out for loitering.) It is thought out and its major moves will be published in gorgeous hardcover books and not on an internet forum. Rad.

My parenthetical above actually struck a thought in me. Trolling and b(is that an acceptable word, better not chance it)ching on rad new model forums to me is like the jerks I have to talk to at work who bring their phones into theaters and use them. "Hey guy, the 76 people behind you bought tickets too, so get off facebook. I assure you they don't care that you have something you find more interesting right now. They don't. In fact, why are you here? In fact, do you have a ticket to this show? Oh, you threw it away? Guess we gave it to you after you gave us money for a pure lark. We have really great exit doors, let me show you.

I can't kick people out of a forum though. I can't even strike back with my aggressive positiveness. Doesn't get you anywhere. Doesn't accomplish anything. Maybe if I was a MOD, but that should never happen, because I am a bully. I would bully.

In fact, I should have been painting this whole time, rather than watching Law and Order and blagging this out. It just annoyed me and I wanted to vent some.

Let's put a positive spin to end this on...

I appreciate you guys that read this bl0rg. I know I don't have enough pictures. Maybe I'll try to get Ice to take some pictures on Wednesday. He's obvs got nothing better to do. I appreciate that you guys are so constructive. You get stuff done. You hobby happily. You don't spend time whinging, but instead building, painting, and non-maliciously trash talking.

Thanks for giving me a good list of subscribed threads to check too often. Thanks for appreciating my ridiculously(awesome) painted marines. Thanks for politely ignoring my posts about WHFB? Maybe not, but I guess it is Dakka...

You can tell a man by his friends and with all y'all I must be pretty ok.

Screw that, I know I'm fantastic.

I also said nothing bad about the Irish. Didn't do it.

Doomrider is the goofy Chaos Biker.

I don't play Fantasy at all but my reaction to the new Nagash was, damn that's cool looking. The size argument I get and can sympathize with but hey people picked the hobby it's not like everything was 15mm last week so...

I do agree with him on the "infantile" direction of some of the newer 40k stuff, specifically the Space Wolves. I have been playing that army since before they had a proper codex and while the quality of the kits is definitely amazing. I Haaaaaaaate TWC, Santa Logan and am not a huge fan of the flying longboats. HOWEVER. I can fully grant that's a matter of taste. I see people who absolutely love the wolf riders. More power to em, I just wont ever field them or buy the models. I'm pretty ok with that. I'm pissed we lost our Wulfen though. Stupid new codex. :(

People who lose it over this stuff need to step back and realize at the end of the day we are playing with toy soldiers.

I am a Space Wolf player. I know. Pics or it didn't happen. So, if only to break up wall o' txt:

@Ice: I do go on... I'll bring the flyer. Just to prove to the world that I can put together a tank.

@CaptainStabby: DOOMRIDER! Thank you for that. We had his box hidden away in our 4x4 cabinets. It was a threat for losing a bet or something. You'll have to buy and paint Doomrider. Gee, GW used to be so much better..

I have the old Codex, and the WD list that proceeded it. Old skoo. I think if I bought the TWC, I might enjoy them, but I KNOW that I love termies. Like your Wolves, btw, but the word "infantile" being used by the man who made a "chain cricket bat"? Hmmm... Like it, want to steal it. Don't know anything about cricket other than Indians and Pakistanis adore it and they built a field in Indy that has outraged thousands.

I am going to miss the Wulfen too. It was a ba addition to squads, plus I had the models. I have 40 Wulfen that I still use during Apocalypse games.

I'll take it for Helfrost, though. It will replace JoWW for instakilling MCs. Yeah, they have to roll a 6, but that can happen. Plus, they look cool.

@MissDee: Can we agree to call it a "hovering" brick? I actually totally dig it. Especially now that I built it an have held it. It is burly and mean. It's not aerodynamic because it ain't flying. It's defying gravity. Gravity for chumps. I like both variants. One is a mix between a longship and something from D-Day. They other is the 40k equivalent of an A-10 Warthog.

Ice and our buddy Polley, who lurks, really screwed with me regarding what to put on the outside of my kits. How can I put pelts on a re-entry vehicle? Wouldn't it burn up in the atmosphere?

Maybe a power cricket bat? Str6 AP4 Concussive. To the skull.

Yeah, same here. I had just finished building a Logan drop pod army when the dex came out. I think I only have one squad of chainfist/stormshield guys so it's not too bad for me. Plus I ended up with like 4 Stormclaw boxes so... bitz!

I'm also super bummed that True Grit went away with 7th. I was incredibly excited to make a drop pod squad of Wolfguard with dual plasma pistols, just because it would be a hilarious 1 trick pony.

To be fair Moonie, I say hi to everyone

However I totally get what you are meaning, there is so much more to do on Dakka than posting vitriol because a company, that is modelling company (not a self confessed game company, although beg to differ) doesn't make a model that suits your unique taste? Guess what, there are other modelling companies out there, why not go chase them down and get all slavering rabid dog on them? Oh is that because they aren't a large corporate with investors to please?

There have been many posters here on Dakka who's sole posting reason is to tear down everything. I've had one particularly nasty member even go so far as to PM me saying my models were horrible and I should burn the lot of them, I didn't listen to him but I did thank him for his comments and criticisms, that served to annoy him further. To me those members are regular day Joker's to Dakka's Batmen, you will never understand the reasoning behind it, the just... do. Oh and boo to anyone who says there can only be one Batman!

I recall the reason I joined Dakka was because of Git's blog on his sons Doom Eagles, it really touched a chord with me and I felt I had to sign up and comment, albeit a year and a half later, but i've stayed for the community, so many amazing painters and great personalities it would be hard to leave

Oh and tight looking space wolves, figured I'd at least comment on some models while I'm here

Yeah, the intro thread... Not so good at that here. I do apparently mine it for ways to tear someone down.

Isn't it funny that they get so mad, because they are a corporation? "Gar! Why do they have to make money?" Of course, I have been on their payroll before, so I am compromised. My landlord took money, not hobby enthusiasm for rent payment. So, I had to be friendly for money. Even a decade ago we had people come in complaining. This was in the heart of the Eye of Terror radness too. Those people usually needed to take a shower. To be fair, a lot of people in that store needed to take a shower.

Speaking of needing to take a shower... I find that Git tries to touch me too. I swat him away.

Adam West, Micheal Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and now Ben Affleck-more than one Batman. Sho' nuff.

I joined Dakka cause of Ice, Solar, and Git. For the most part I dig it, but I just have to remember to keep out of certain ghettos-like anywhere but P&M stuff.

Would it be tall poppy syndrome that has sparked the hate on corporations? or perhaps that they become faceless entities who sole goal is to maximise profits instead of providing a service or goods? I for one have no issues with Games workshop, I feel that if they had done the price rises 15 years ago, there would have been a bigger outcry than what happened during the last rises.

Brb, having a shower, thanks for the reminder

I find that if I stay away from the sub forums "You Make Da Call" "40K Army lists" and "Off Topic" my enjoyment of the site went up immeasurably. and for "News and Rumours" I look at the pretty pictures and do my damnedest to not read what other people post about 'upcoming rumours'

What attracted you to the Space Wolves as your current army?

I have always been a fan of Space Wolves, since before they even had a codex. I skipped meals in middle school to buy my first box of metal gray hunters. When I first learned to read, I somehow got a hold of a book on Norse mythology. I was enamored of the stories of Odin hanging on the Yggdrasil to learn the runes and Fenris chomping on Tyr's hand. So, it was just natural.

Ice has been into Blood Angels for 20 years. I've been into Space Wolves that long. I'm on my 4thish Space Wolves army.

re: the Logan/Termies etc... stuff further up the thread. Keep in mind with Unbound you can be "that guy" and just buy extra drop pods for 35 pts to make sure your entire army drops first turn.

I can neither confirm nor deny that I may or may not do that to at least one opponent.

Stabby- I have a few drop pods. Getting them together slowly and not so surely. They will likely be the first to test paint schemes before I ruin an $80 Storm Fang. My Wolves army is primarily a painting exercise, that somehow got to 4000ish points+.

We had a competition for best duel at the local GW. While there were several planned entries on I finished mine. So, I win!

I am pretty happy with it either way. If none of you have read Brunner the Bounty Hunter, I would totally recommend it.

He also has some Django in him. There aren't enough non-white characters in GW, so I do my best to make that different. Hence, why I make sure that I have some color in my Emperor's Fools.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks, Git. I lost the last painting contest cause my base was not interesting enough. Didn't want a repeat performance.

Actually built a drop pod.. That was annoying. Beat Ice like some heavy cream. Bam!

I like the new rules. It is quite possible we screwed up some. It is guaranteed we screwed up Maelstrom of War. Still, beat the Orks silly.

There was a scary moment where the Flash Gits rolled AP2, but luckily he whiffed hardcore. Also, only missed Wolf Priest having feel no pain for 2 rounds of shooting.

Our two biggest units with warlords shot at each other and continually failed charges over a river for I think 3 whole turns. It was pretty ridiculous.

StormFang Gunship is a beast.

Since Git wants battle reports, then I will put forth my half-hearted stab at it. I will put it in spoilers, because it has nothing to do with painting.

Don't want Whale the big, mean MOD to ban me...

Begin rambly ramble:
Spoiler:
1250 point scrum. My Space Wolves v. Orks. It was played on the display board from Adepticon, so maybe a 3' x 4'.

Orks were small mobs. 10 lootas, 20ish boyz, 5 nobs plus warboss-power klaw(duh) in a totally kitted out battlewagon, 10 Flash Gitz in a trukk, 20 gretchin, and I think that's it.

I had 2 squads 10 gray hunters in pods, 15 blood claws in stormclaw with basic wolf priest, and 3 long fangs with heavy bolters(not that it mattered.)

First turn, the only thing I have on the board is my long fangs. He had everything. My long fangs were in cover. They got blasted to nothingness when he went first.

We had a short discussion about how that would have ended the game in the last edition and how we didn't know if that was still true. We discussed how lame it would be if we spent all this time setting up the game for it to be over. So...the game went on.

I podded in and my plasma guns blasted open the trukk. He lost a Flash Git, it took out some grots and some boyz. Good quote was, "Why were you guys so close to the trukk?" Like he had no hand in it.

His turn, he beat up on the Grey Hunters. He missed a lot and then I whiffed on some armor saves, but they didn't run. Luckily the pod blocked los from most of his guys. The pod took a hull point.

None of my reserves came in, and I decided objective secured be damned, I am taking that special detachment. I like deciding that my reserves will come in automatically. The outflank is rad too, but not guaranteed.

I decided that getting shot is for the birds and took cover in his flash gits. Best way to avoid getting shot is to charge. We fought each other to a draw.

Next turn, he moves around, takes every objective on the board. I beat his Flash Gitz to nothingness. All hail the Allfather.

Stormfang shows up. Thanks, guys.

The Stormfang destroys half of his Lootas, cause that's who you would shoot at if you were a flyer. The Machine Spirit shoots the Lascannon at the Battlewagon. This doesn't work once the whole game. Never can touch that stupid thing.

His turn, Lootas dent the Stormfangs, Ralf asks about 5 times if it really has 12 A. I gloat. The drop pod still blocks los from most of his nobs that disembark.

Next turn, the last pod drops.

The Stormfang gets in position by hovering. Drops off the Blood Claws-who are lined up to charge he nobs in the Face. They shoot up the nobs, do some damage. The Stormfang blows away a few more Lootas-they pass their morale test. The Gray Hunters shoot the boyz, then they run away right between my Blood Claws and the Nobz. Crap.

His turn: Charged by Nobs, CHarged by Bikerz(did I forget to mention them? He gets a direct hit on the Stormfang with his Killcannon. He misses with the rest. 1 hull point left...youch.

I challenge his Warboss with my Wolf Priest. I explain exactly how challenges work. He says, Oh cool, and they beat on each other. I smack him down to one wound(note: we had forgotten to assign warlord traits...crap.) He wounds me three times and I invulverable 2 of them. Then, I die. My squads get torn up big time, but take a heavy toll in return. Ice makes fun of me, because I kit out my squads, but taking powerfists is the only thing that really took guys out. He was not super-excited about counterattack. "Why do you get an extra attack?" "Cause they are space wolves, so they are awesome." "That sucks." "Well, you have 2 attacks and furious charge, so go to hell."

As and aside, I had a wolf guard in my blood claws that had 2 power fists. He attacked back with 4 attacks. Bam! Next turn he got killed.

The details get muddled in my head. But the only reason I won was because turn 6 had him with only 2 lootas on the 5 point objective. I had 2 gray hunters on the 4 point objective. I scooted over for a good angle with my stormclaw and lit into his lootas. Bye bye. I won, because we didn't have another turn to play. Then we ate really good food at Ice's. His mother and sister in law can COOK! 4 different types of quiche, a french toast casserole, bacon, biscuits and sausage gravy, blueberry pastry, and pineapple-orange juice. Throw in some coffee...good times.

I got really lucky with my Stormfang sticking around. I liked the option of being able to hover. I really like both new flyers now. Not cheap, but MEAN and useful. I need to get them and the new pods painted up, but it's intimidating.

I love playing Space Wolves. I totally dig the new codex.

There was at least one pic taken, so I'll see if I can't get that. I also won a painting competition at the local GW, so I'll see if I can't get Ice to take a picture of that model.

And there were for sure Biscuits and Gravy. If you ever want to come down to visit Indy, I recommend doing it on a corresponding week with Ice's in-laws.

Knightley, I'm not sure you've ever had a meal quite like this one. First of all, a little back ground info, my sister in law is a pastry chef and my mother in law has work in the restaurant industry her whole life. When they come to visit all they bring an epic grocery list and I break out the stretchy pants.

The above mentioned meal that they cooked for us was one of their best yet. Four different quiches, biscuits and gravy, a vat of bacon, french toast casserole, a blue berry pastry, all made from scratch. It was amazing! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

BAIT AND SWITCH!

Well, sort of...

I had a battle today; this is true. I will tell you all my loyal and adulatory readers about it; this is true.

It was not the Vylka Fynryka, nay. Nor the Emperor's Fools.

We have a new End Times campaign at the local GW. Rad. I deployed the doughty men of the Empire against the pansy High Elves.

The guy I played, Micheal Jordan(yeah...he gets that a lot), has a force made up of about 4 or 5 Island of Blood boxes. He finally got some paint on it, bless his heart. His stated strategy for the campaign is to "play like a d*ck". Is the d word safe on Dakka? Ask Whale, he's in charge of the whole thing isn't he?

So, I decided to fight fire with fire. I made a list to go against what I know he has. Because I have more models than him and I can do that.

His list was 4 units of 5 Ellyrian Reavers. These are Fast Cavalry. I will explain these things to all you 40k players if you decide to read them. If you already play WHFB and you think I am talking down to you, then think of the sportscasting during the Super Bowl, where they explain the game of football to all the people who don't watch it every week(btw, Steelers win/Ravens lose=good day on the gridiron. Go Colts?) MJ was watching the game I played against Matt that I posted earlier in my bl0rg. He was astonished at the BS I was pulling off with my pistoliers, riding around wherever blasting away and generally disrupting everything. Fast Cav can reform at will, so if you can measure to a point within their movement you just put them there. In blocky block WHFB world, this is rad. You get beside, behind, in front, wherever, and then when they charge you. you run away and reform the next turn(if you pass Ld) and then move like nothing happened. You can shoot on the march(double move-if an enemy is close you test Ld to do it, hence why it is useful to get behind). So, he stole my thunder and started actually using his Fast Cav the right way. He went a LITTLE overboard with 4 units maybe.

He then had a Horde of Swordmasters of Hoeth. Horde is 10 models wide. His was 4 ranks deep. That's a lot of Swordmasters. A lot. I will go into why they are ridiculous beasts when it comes up.

He then had Aleriel and Teclis. Teclis is THE best caster in the game. Alariel(or however it's spelled) is no slouch at all.

This list sucks to play against. It's a min Core(think 2 troops-40k kids) Star List that revolves around Teclis tearing your army asunder. I had seen him play this list(and lose-dice luck) and knew it was his trick.

So, I bought sniper rifles.

I had 2 Great Cannons(which are just really big sniper rifles-I know it's wierd, but they don't miss, more on this later). And stuffed as many Hochland Long Rifles as I could. I had 2 Engineers, one on foot one on barded warhorse. I had 2 min squads of handgunners with marksmen with the long gun. I was channeling my inner Daniel Day Lewis. What sucks is that I normally play all painted to make a point, look gorgeous, but also because you get points in the store for playing that way. But those models have gotten the paint yet. I also had a witchhunter, because Killing Blow. The choice is based around Snipe, which means I can say, "I shoot at YOU." and ignores Look out sir. I can also shoot at a seperate target than the rest of the unit.

I also had a bus of 40 militia(a bus is a deep unit that takes advantage of Steadfast, which is, nutshelled, Stubborn when you have more ranks). I has 8 ranks, I has stubborn. At least, that's the thought behind it...

I also had 15 knights with a Battle Standard Bearer or BSB in parlance. My knights have full plate forged by dwarfish armorers mounted on barded warhorses. This gives them a 2+ armor save. This does not make them the same as Termies, but it ain't even close to bad. Mine have great weapons instead of lances, which means they can't have the 1+ save that a shield and lance would give them, but they look rad, so...

The BSB is in my gallery, you can tell he is a BSB, because he has a HUGE flag. This will come into play later, this being foreshadowing of an episode of radical, visceral nerdrage that will occur at a later part of the BR.

I also had a unit of 17 archers composed entirely of OOP Kislevites, so there is your End Times nod right there. For those of you not up on the WHFB latest news, the nation of Kislev has very nearly been wiped off the map, and only Erengrad remains-besieged by Archaon, Lord of the End Times. This is because the plot is actually unfolding in WHFB, just sayin...

Also, I had my Light Wizard who looks like Cornell Westhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornel_West. Matt got the reference and it made me very happy.

So, let's have a battle shall we?

MJ's whole board edge was lined up with spell cards. It's just so many you just kind of ignore it. Like, crap, what am I going to do about that? Oh yeah, ignore it. That always makes things better. I had 2 spells. Get some.

He had his swordmasters in the middle of the board in a damn forest. I have nothing good to say about that forest. His Ellyrian Reavers were around places too. Whatevs.

Left flank to right, pistoleers, handgunners, cannon, knights, militia, cannon, handgunners, archers. Did I mention I took pistoleers? Well, I did.

I got first turn. FACE!

Our fast cav moved up cause Scout. My first turn, I blast apart his Ellyrian Reavers. I won't go into the details per se, but suffice to say he didn't have to worry about any decisions to make regarding them by his second turn. All of my snipers took aim and fired at Teclis. Ah, how would my clever plan work? It fell on its face like clumsy moron drunk on schnapps accidentally stumbling into a Marine obstacle course. Quick note on shooting in WHFB-it's the rules for 2nd Ed. 40k. If you know what I am talking about, you are old. Just sayin... How does this work for all you wet behind the ears youngsters?

Engineer fires his Hochland Long Rifle at "Teclis." BS5, hitting on a 2+. Get some! Oh, but, while his weapon has a 36" range, he is beyond 18" or short range, so -1 to hit. He hasn't moved, because then he can't shoot, so no -1 there, but he is "sniping," so -1 to hit. And, kicker is that "Teclis" is in that damn forest or hard cover. 5+ cover save, huh? Nope. -2 to hit. So, 6 to hit with the Engineers and 7 to hit with the Marksmen. Yes, there is a 7 to hit, it's a 6 followed by a 4 or something. It doesn't matter, because I missed with all of my shots. Anytime I might or might not mention shooting with these weapons, I will miss or he will pass his ward save, which is like an invul only better. You get to take a ward save if you fail you armor. Pretty rad..

Why did I suddenly start putting "Teclis" in quotes you ask? Because it wasn't the Teclis model. In the early nineties when the Teclis model came out, it was revelatory, so good. Now, it looks like a single piece cast two arms up in the air 90s model. But that's Teclis and McVey painted it soooo well. He had stars on his robe and a naked elf chick holding a crescent moon on his staff. Beast Mode. So, imagine a situation where I call his model "that guy who calls himself Teclis, but isn't." Every time. Every single time.

Yeah, I am an annoying person when I choose to be, and most of the time when I choose not to be.

So, let's shoot our cannons shall we? I pivot the barrel, choose my range and borrow the store artillery die to fire. Misfire. Grr. Consult Blackpowder misfire chart because I don't know it by heart. A roll of a 2...my cannon explodes killing all crew. Cool. But, hey, S happens, right?

Let's fire our second cannon. I pivot my barrel, choose my range, roll selfsame artillery die and....yeah, you guessed it. Misfire. Well, let's consult that blackpowder misfire chart again, huh? And I roll a 2.

I may or may not have thrown a minor tantrum. My memory is that I kept my cool, but I wouldn't trust it.

His turn, he ineffectively shoots with his Reavers and casts a ridiculous amount of spells that I grin and bear. One of these spells give his whole swordmaster unit plus "Teclis" and the other chick +2 T. So, I'll just skip how shooting went on my turn. I didn't hurt "Teclis" but I tried. I did stop a spell with a Dispell scroll and then the chick used her staff which lets her recast failed spells. Shakes head. Ok. I did stop a spell that would have turned my militia into gold statues

Second turn is more of the same, I move up my militia to get my witchhunter in range to shoot his pistols. And he missed. The rest of the Reavers are aced. I don't know mathematically if it made sense to start moving up on him or if shooting him and weathering the magic would be better. Teclis has the power to single-handedly take down an army, and "Teclis" was going to try it.

Plus, I was bored and on a time limit. I had a date that night. Advance!

He moves up his only unit, staying in the damn woods. More spells. My militia are now S1. Other bad things.. Archers get torn up. I lose 1 of my 2 spells(that happened first turn, I just forgot about it.) Sucks, but I am still there.

My turn, I move up the knights outside of likely charge range from him and angle my miltia's butt away from the cav.

His turn. Combat! He charges, casts more spells... I pay witness to just how god awful these swordmasters are. WS5 S5 I5 attacks in 4 ranks. Imagine a lawnmower. I don't lose the whole unit, but i do lose over 20 men without a single wound in return. Recall the plan to keep steadfast? Went down below 5 ranks, I has no steadfast, I has no stubborn. After doing the Combat Resolution math, I lose by a truckload. I fail to roll snake-eyes, I forget to re-roll for my BSB and run.

I narrowly avoid him clipping into my knights because those hordes are so wide. Then it's my turn. I get the flank on the swordmasters. No ranks, no 4 ranks fighting. It's pretty much the best option I had. We fight each other. Pew Pew. It gets to combat resolution.
Insert counting here.
I say, ""well I have a standard and a battle standard. That's +2"
He says, "So do I, so it evens out."
I say, "No, just that guy has a standard."
"Oh, that guy is the BSB."
"BSB? He's got a Halberd, that's not a standard."
"Well, you know, that's a BSB."
"No, I DON'T know, because he doesn't have a damn flag. He doesn't have anything closely resembling a flag or a standard of any kind, he's not even waving a damn ribbon, he has a HALBERD. You can tell this guy is my BSB because he has a flag. In fact, he has a flag on top OF ANOTHER FLAG."
I'm cleaning up the dialog for all of my underage readers and those with a weak stomach. I definitely non-ironically said, "That's not even cool, bro."

I definitely raised my voice. By that, I mean, I yelled at him.

I almost feel bad about it, but not really. Somebody had to call him on it. He swapped it out with a model with a flag. Either way that boy needs to paint his stuff.

We didn't get to fight another round. I had to make a 7:45 show time of The Skeleton Twins. If that is playing anywhere near your area, then I recommend it for sure. My girl got me some Ghiradelli Pumpkin SPice and Cinnamon Crunch chocolates. At the theater we got a large combo with a Mr. Pibb(my favorite), mozzarella sticks, and Haribo Golden Bears.

It wouldn't be a moonpie Battle Rep without a menu.

Apparently Sun King has an Oktoberfest. I love fall flavors. I want some Schlafly pumpkin beer.

Hope that entertains. I had a good time. Would have liked to win. I'm going to try a new tack next time maybe. Definitely playing all painted. I will have to do a rundown of etiquette with MJ.

Oh, and if you want to see my Empire army, you can see it on display at the store in the case.

Hey, thanks, guys. I appreciate you all reading it. I clicked the preview before submitting and realized I had a lot of text there.

The End Times thing has me super amped up for sure. Check out the new Chaos stuff! It's crazy.

I figured I would have to do some translation work for you guys. It's a super great game, and I totally recommend getting into it.

I hear you about the old Dwarves book, Alf. I played against it. It was rough.

@Git: I'm going to cram WYSIWYG down his throat. Next time he just doesn't have what he doesn't have. Moving on.

@Knightley: I have a filthy, filthy mouth. Maidens blushed and flowers wilted. As much as the swearing was the volume. I bawled him out. Hopefully it works. It just made me laugh cause it was such ridiculous nerdrage. What a weird hobby.

To get so wound up over little plastic things on a table top is quite a surreal experience. Of course looking back on it, it seems silly now, but at the time nothing in the world could stop it happening any other way

So, I just QCed Fury. Holy crap.

1. It works fine at my theater. Content plays, we have CCAP, and HI VI audio assist.

2. BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLS! It is rad. Radder than rad.

3. Ramos, if you don't dig this movie, just stop going to see movies. They aren't for you.

In hobby news, I think I have a handle on what I want to do for Git's comp. I hope no one has stolen my idea yet. I'm going to use some spare pilot legs and make a dead, chewed up MW, and have another one be stripping him down for spare equipment. I think I'll put snow on it and put it on a 40mm square base. I'll probably put a tree on it too, just cause.

Don't steal my idea, punks.

GO WATCH FURY NOW!! Do not pass GO, do not collect $200. You can thank me later.

Edit: Just came up with a haiku to go with as a sponsor for my efforts:

Hero fallen, snow
Snow melts, tree will bud once more
Even in death, serve.

Edit: Hacked out some bitz to start working with. Took a picture:

That should be enough to play the game. I just don't know how far to go with making them beat up and torn apart by the penitent crusade. I might just go all the way tore up like last time. I don't buy into the insectify aesthetic. It just holds no interest in me. Taken to the furthest extreme, I should make it a sister of battle who mates with the enemy then cuts his head off and eats him.

Ha! Someone please steal that idea.

So, I figured I would try to use my camera on my computer to take pictures of the project until it's done and, like all things I need to get done, I get Ice to do it for me.

The first shot is just hilarious, so I include it. It is my unintended self portrait.

No, it is not my 23rd birthday, though I am partial to the Little Mermaid. Quite the inverse, in fact.

There's also pictures of my whole family and Ice's first kid as a baby. That's my fridge! Can you spot the Steelers magnet?

But on to hobbyness. I laid down the greenstuff and plugged in the tree to start the project. It is curing now. The standy legs aren't glued and neither is the chest. I left the other crap, because, again, hilarious. That is my "concentrating" face. I use it for new tasks, detail painting, and difficult bowel movements. That's for all you Americans just waking up, Brits having tea or whatever, and Kiwis/Ozpeeps going to bed. Dream of that tonight! Only, when you imagine me flushing, the water goes the other way.

I went for a bendy look to the tree like sometimes happens, I think. The trunk starts at a weird angle and stays that way, but as it grows, it says, "oh, I'm supposed to be straight." You can tell it's a fantastical setting because trees don't talk.

I think standy dude will have a flamer. 1. Promethium is easier to steal that bolts are to produce. 2. Cremation is the go to when your homesystem of the Endymion Cluster is forbidden to you.

Bummer. Should have switched sides before the Executioners did.

Quick tangent to those Badab enthusiasts out there. So, of the 3, Executioners, Lamenters, and Mantis Warriors, all of them were sent on 100year penitent crusades. At the end, the Mantis Warriors and Lamenters were both described as having barely survived. This is not mentioned with the Executioners that I have seen.
Set the scene: trial of the Secessionists.
Great Inquisitor Waxamunda Poppapop commands, "Though shalt do thine penance with a 100 year crusade. Anyone giving you even a crust of bread shall be drawn and quartered. So the paperwork has been signed in triplicate, so it shall be done."
Mantis Warriors: "Hisss! We'll barely survive. Let's go hide."
Lamenters: "Oh no. We'll barely survive. Let's be sad."
Executioners: "Got it. Hey, I've got this disembodied head. You want this disembodied head?"
Great Inquisitor Waxamunda Poppapop: "Yes. Yes, I do. But, this doesn't make things ok. You still have to do penance."
Executioners: "Yeah, I heard you the first time. Now, if you don't mind, I have things to murder, behead, and decoratively display."

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to sleep before I go to work in 10 hours.

I'm sure that is exactly how that went down.

I suddenly had the urge to create Waxamunda Poppapop, I picture him with a large beer belly, a handle bar mustache, and really bad teeth. No weapons other then a nice pen. Actually no, not even a pen. He has a servitor to do that.

Just a little update: No hobby work getting done.

Boo.

I played a game of WHFB at the local store against Chaos. It is nice because my army is on display, so all I have to do is show up.
Wiz
I got whipped pretty solidly. I need to go with a lvl 4 wizard instead of my level 2. I should have gone for more smaller spells rather than going for the big spell everytime. Two fully painted armies against each other is always awesome though.

The new Chaos rules are pretty cool. Wish something could have gone wrong for him though. First turn Tzeentch decided to blast 16 of my militia out of existence. The small template is way more brutal in WHFB.

I am going to work on getting a new Wizard and Engineer in effect. I picked up a Chapel, because it is oop. Hopefully I worked out getting an End Times 3 book. I arranged for someone to attempt to preorder it for me as I will be at work. I am no. 2 on the list to pick up Shield of Baal for Ice, so hopefully that works out. Supposedly these will come out in softcover as well. That should be nice for those that missed them.

Edited to add old pics:

Got on my steroid and my z-pack and my albuterol and summoned the energy to get in another game of WHFB. To ruin the end, this is no tale of woe.

ROMA VICTA!

I won a game! Woo! It's possible.

We were playing all new rules, including the latest Khaine book(which, by way of review is bonkers. Dude.. Ulthuan... The changes they are smashing in are crazy rad.)

The newest rules that we put in for this game were magic rules. I have, I think, explained magic in Fantasy before-it's very similar to 40k's psychic phase. Well, now it's got some pretty serious differences. It's more chaotic and possibly more powerful now.

I went with 2 level 4 battle mages, because I decided to be a goob. Sue me. There are a ton of big changes and one is that you get access to ALL of the spells of a given lore if you can cast that lore. I took a Gold Mage because Lore of Metal is one of my absolute favorites, but it was very situational and depended on rolling the right spells for the right game. All the magic missiles wound on the armor value of your enemy-the more armor they have, the easier they are to kill-rad against knights, crap against naked barbarians and hobos. Either that or it was buffs. Or it's a spell that makes the enemy into golden statues. That's just a good spell-hard to cast, but nuts. They also added End Times spells. These can be cast once a turn, not dispelled, and only castable by lvl 3 and above. The Gold one is a 2+ ward save for a unit.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

At one point he did 21 wounds on my Greatswords, after armor saves 5+ and wards he killed 2 dudes, maybe 3. Get some.

I put it on my militia, who are lucky if they are armored with a decent set of clothing and got smacked by a Gorebeast chariot. I still lost 4 guys because I suck at rolling, but it was far better than the utter slaughter it would have been. Hobos coated in gold FTW!

He used his chaos thingy that just sucks for me every turn. Apparently there are rolls on this table that don't suck for me, but I have never seen them. He rolled Slannesh's, so if he rolls a 4+ I have to take a ld test on 3 dice, what I fail by take s4 hits from....well, Dakka is a family site. The 2+ ward save helped me we theorized because you can't *expletive deleted* someone to death if you are both made of metal. Enjoy that image.

I increased the size of my greatswords to 4 and now I have to paint more greatswords because it was the only way to roll. Sure, they are 11 points apiece, but MAN! I lost almost half of them and they were still swinging away.

I had an idea for my halberdiers of which I have 40 or 50 and 1.9 painted. I was going to go with a regiment of renown you may have not flipped the page past in a WD. They are from Altdorf and are the best in the city and have black laquered armor and yellow plumes and are hoity toity and great. I just didn't think that would work with my theme, so I came up with a different idea. They will be the Altdorf "Second-Besters". No, we are not the The Regiment of Honor, but we are the second best behind them. They are a mix of young-ins who think they will get there one day or grizzled old vets that have resigned themselves to where they are, and I snuck some drunks and failed gamblers in the mix.

It is my contention that the Empire army runs on 3 things:
1.Training
2. Faith
3. Booze

You train to fight so you can do it without thinking. Then you get stupid drunk and pray the whole time, performing all your functions on pure muscle memory.

How else would you be able to take on a 12 foot tall minotaur with a pointy stick and maybe a breastplate?

Oh, and I got the cannon to work. It even killed some things. Yay! I got a friggin Engineer. I hit the minotaurs with it first turn. Misfired of course, rerolled for the Engineer. I then failed to wound on a 1. I had a fit, a literal fit. Ah, acute bronchitis.

So, this is more rambling than usual. But, the new rules and new things going on with Fantasy are very cool. It's exciting and new, but it's nice that even an army with very few specific new rules just for my army(just a couple new characters) and I can still win a game. I'll see if I can get Matt to snap a pic or two of my army in the case at the store. Still pretty proud of that-also very convenient for me.

I need to finish the basing. I think I am going to try a snow effect with Woodland Scenics snow and maybe get some Liquitex gloss medium. Give it a try. The idea is a late spring snow right at the beginning of campaign season.

I seem to have lost my Merchant and Scribe models. Not excited to try to find them. Hope I didn't accidentally trade them off.

Cheers!

These are my militia:

This was my army general, Cornelius Westen(he just smelled a fart):
This is where the fart came from.

These are Matt's Beastmen. I do not have permission to post this image, but I don't think he would mind:

What's up, Solar?

I mean, dearest adoring hoard of fans, quiet thyselves, so that I may pontificate:

The purpose of this post is to parrot Git's post regarding the year 2014 in my personal hobby. Now, not so fast with the exalt button, my legion, this isn't about Git's hobby... It's about the one and only pie's. That's me.

What were my stated goals for 2014? Well, imagine some crickets. I had some goals I made for myself, drinking gas station coffee and staring at sprues, but I never made them official.

Here are some that I probably had and non-color coded pass or fail ratings(without actually saying pass or fail and in no particular order)

1. Play some damn games.
I'll give myself an ok on this one.
I got in another Adepticon. Hit the table with my brudders. That was a blast as always. Ice and I got some games in, but not a ton. He's busy and I work a job that has completely non-normal hours. We get a lot of Pathfinder and other more womanly accepted games in. By that I mean accepted by our particular women, not that wargames can't be played by women, potential trollfemmes out there. So, it's not bad in that way.
I got in some Fantasy games and worked out a way to be relatively consistent with it. I know you are all big 40k guys and you know that I am down with the bolter, but 20 years ago I was given the Warhammer box with goblins and elves and that has always been my first love. I appreciate those of you who have indulged me with my forays into it.

2. Paint that last damn Chaos Lord:
Ok, so I only built and primed him!
In 04ish, when I worked for GW, they released the Hordes of Chaos book and made 4 totally rad Chaos Lords for each of the Gods. I have always adored them and over the course of the past few years have built and painted almost all of them. They are in my gallery if you want to check them out. These were always purely for my hobby joy and gooby collectorness. I also managed to snag them all while the were still metal. The Tzeentch Lord on Disc is the last of them to be painted. I am sure all of you have that white whale of hobby that you are totally daunted by. I just stare and stare at him and go, "What the hell am I going to do with you?" All the other lords were painted to the absolute best of what I was able to put out at the time. After your 4 Space Wolf squad or 45th militiaman, you've just got to let it all hang out. Pop you hobby collar as they don't say. I got this guy built up and primed white(reference to Moby Dick way cleverer now, huh?) but man I am stumped. He has to be colorful and crazy. Boo. How do you do that? Well, at least I have him ready to go. You can't get started without those basic steps, so when I get that particular bug up my butt I will be good to go.

3. Get together a playable Fantasy army.
Done and still going.

4. Get rid of some of my old crap.
Ditched my Warmachine stuff and my rows and rows of metal minotaurs. Glad to be rid of it. I got the SW flyers for them, so not unhappy about it totally. Could have got more for them, but anytime I can take a step away from my hoarding nature it's a good thing. Sure it was 2 steps forward and one back, but math says that's net 1 step. Argue with math, trollfemmes!

5. Do the Mantis Maker challenge.
Fail.

I have the thing built too. I'll try to do it just to have it done. Green. Why did it have to be green?

6. Nerdfest challenge:
Didn't even get past thinking stage because current state of RL at time, but I really wanted to show all you full spectrum viewers what is up. Might challenge myself to do one like that some day.

7. Too many goals. I would never actually assemble 7 whole goals. Maybe, indulge in my hobby and remain having a roof over my head and a girl I call my girl? Pass.

8. Keep my hater-blockers firmly wrapped round my eyes:

Not so much. I went off on a diatribe against the haters this year. I need to not even let them get that out of me. It's not worth it. Who cares what the people who haven't collected, gamed, or painted in x number of years say about the hobby I still participate in? Do these guys not know there is porn on this box? Watch that and leave me and my toys alone. Haters gonna hate.

9. Build a board.

Adepticon board with Ice... Not the same as a board in my place. That would rule. I didn't do that this year.

So, let's talk about 2015...

1. Finish the Tzeentch Lord.

F&*% you Tzeentch Lord, I'll get you someday!

2. Finish the majority of my Empire I currently have and not buy too much more.

I don't have faith in either of these 2 goals. I have about 100 guys left to paint that are built. I have 3 or 4 more cannons. I just built 5 more characters... Also, with this new edition that is coming out(rumoredly) I am going to get into it. Haters gonna hate, but I'm down.

3. Get in more games!

Do this thing.

4. Vehicles...

AAAAAAARG! NO!! ARG!!! RAAAAHR! Why does my fun have to be such a chore!

5. Get my stuff cleaned up, organized, and well displayed.

Don't you just think it's a hoot when you watch A&E's Hoarders and think, "That's what I'm like!" No? You don't get that thought? Which brings me to...

6. Engage hater blockers at all times.

Oh, they didn't release Legion rules, new models for Sisters or retconned a decade old idea? Sorry, buddy, I'm checking out new End Times models and can't be bothered by your hate. I'll be over here painting my old metal Necromunda models, not commenting on a post about Warhammer 9th(or whatever they'll call it) saying how I wish they still supported that game. Though I do wish that. The things they could do...

7. Seven goals is way too many.

8. Have fun.

9. Build a board.

10. Make the Emperor's Fools a playable army.

I hear you, Solar. I know. I know. They make me happy and they look weird, but also pretty darn cool. Vehicles? AAAARG!

11. Waste less time that I could use painting.

And with that, I have gnoblar to paint to finish off a Paymasted Ogre Maneater for use as a unit filler.

1a. What SL said.

1b. Play some damn games.

Can't overemphasize how important this is (IF you are a game-playin' kinda person)... without it, the hobby can be drudgery.

2. Paint that last damn Chaos Lord:

Meh... painter's block. We all get it from time to time.

3. Get together a playable Fantasy army.

It's not a "fantasy army" unless it includes the Swedish bikini team.

4. Get rid of some of my old crap.

I'm with you 100%... this has been on my list for 2 years now.

5. Do the Mantis Maker challenge.
Fail. I have the thing built too. I'll try to do it just to have it done. Green. Why did it have to be green?

Look at it this way, you just have a very early start on next year's competition!

6. Nerdfest challenge:

Lesson #1: Real life comes first.

7. Too many goals. I would never actually assemble 7 whole goals. Maybe, indulge in my hobby and remain having a roof over my head and a girl I call my girl? Pass.

See #1a & #6.

8. Keep my hater-blockers firmly wrapped round my eyes:

I must admit to being pretty fuzzy on the modern interpretation of a "Hater". If I actually "hated" something... I would actively seek to obliterate it from the face of earth (if such was in my power). If I criticize something that I disagree with or don't fully understand... do I hate it?? Clearly not, yet I have been labeled a "hater" before (not by moonpie of course, I luves me some moonpie!). I guess if you can claim that you've been hated-on... you at least have the comfort of being a self-appointed victim and are released from the much more complicated responsibility of defending your position. If the haters you are referring to are non-gaming acquaintances who criticize your hobby... educate them, involve them or ignore them. Save the "Hate" label for things that matter in life; crime, poverty, injustice.

9. Build a board.

You guys did a great job on your Adepticon board. A+ man.

@Gitsplitta: Thanks for the get back. As far as being the game playing type of person-I don't think I am one of those until I get a game in. When I do, it's way too obvious that I am.

As far as the haters go, I'm not talking about people hating on me. Who could hate on me and how could I care if they did? By hating, I mean the hating on GW thing-analyzing their numbers and hoping they go under, bagging on every new release, blah blah. It gets my goat. Maybe I take it personally, because it was one of my first really good jobs, was a place and a hobby where I made a lot of good friends, but I take it personally. I need to not. I need to just let it go.

If you find a swedish bikini model team in miniature form, I will put it on a 40mm square base, paint their suits blue and red, and have it in my milita unit!

@CaptainStabby: Some people love them, though... I like them in the game. Maybe if I just nut up and do one, I'll dig it.

Maybe not.

@Brian- Standard rate $50 per. Include a SASE. The resale market just kills me, but what can one do?

@Knightly: We'll have to put that together with my Marketing Director and PR guy. I guess we'll also have to include my IP lawyer in the mix. First thing we do...

I'll try to get it updated. I like my new ogre. He's done now aside from basing and that's drying currently.

Makes me think to add an addendum. I need to try to include more pics. Git's rule and all.

The current plan is to get 50 halberdiers, 50 "swordsmen", battle mages, and assorted officers done. In there will be Karl Franz on Griffon, because KFE is beast modeness and if this Archaon on Dragon thing is for real then I need to go mano e mano with that. This will likely involve glowy effect, so I'll need to get that down. After that or in the middle somewhere will be 2 SW flyers and 4 SW drop pods. I also have 15 or 20 more fools to get down on.

I want to get the Empire stuff done in time for the last ET book. The SW i would like to get done before Gen Con. The Fools I would like to have already gotten done and yet never want to be finished with.

Also, Knightly, I wanted to say I appreciate your style. It would be amazing to pull off your crispness. Crispness is the opposite of my style. As a guy at the local GW stuff said to me, "I like your stuff. It looks dirty." Thanks?

Thanks for stopping by. I'm going to the GW store on Thursday, because I HAVE THE DAY OFF!!!

I think I may have my army taken out of the display case soon, because he is doing some neat new hobby competitions. I'd like photographic evidence that it was indeed in there.
