pfibp's assorted hobby stuff - Long absence = lots of updates @ 2014/01/09 22:14:43

Post by: pfibp

Hello and welcome to my hobby blog here on Dakka,

I finally found the time, courage and muse to present my creations to this community but first maybe start with some words to my person.

About me
I started with wargaming and painting only a little more than a year ago. Since this time I tested a lot of things and - in my eyes - leanred a lot as well.
My initial start with the hobby was WH40K since two friends asked me if I'd liked to join them in their games. In fact I was forced to lead the orc army of one of the against the tyranids of the other one.

Well my time is precious so I did not have that many games since this first one, but at least a few. If you'd ask my to classify maself, I would call me more of a painter and a tinker than a gamer actually. ...and my work progress is quite chaotic. ;P

After getting addicted to those small plastic figures and the the smell of the glue I looked around at other products and soon fell in love with Infinity by Corvus Belli as well.
But better switch to my list of current projects.

My projects

As said I started with WH40K (Tau) which "ate" about the half of my hobby time last year with the other half shared by my Ariadna, terrain building and different side projects.

Main projects in 2013
  • My Tau army (gallery links: Tau - Kroot)

  • Ariadna faction from Infinity (gallery link)

  • Side projects
  • Space Marines (mainly Dark Vengeance) (gallery link)

  • some terrain building (gallery link)

  • start of ALEPH faction (Infinity) (gallery link)

  • Godslayer Nordgaard (gallery link)

  • misc fantasy miniatures (e.g. old Armalion minis) (gallery link)

  • With a big 2vs2 Apocalypse match a few days back I now did push WH40K to the side and will try to focus on smaller systems.
WH40K is nice but since I travel a lot and my storage space is limited I recognized that I like skirmishers even more. As well there are some very interesting rules and minis out there which are not made by "big bad GW" ;P

    Main projects for 2014 (planned)
  • Infinity; mainly Ariadna and a little bit ALEPH

  • Godslayer Nordgaard (long term perhaps a second faction)

  • Dystopian Legions; Federated States of America

  • Eden; faction not fixed, yet.

  • more terrain building

  • Side projects
  • a little bit of Tau maybe (Presumably there will be another Apo match between me and my friends end of 2014 or beginning of 2015)

  • more work on Space Marines custom chapter (low chance, but can change quickly)

  • OK maybe I should switch to some pictures now.
Let's start with some backlog first, before getting to the current more current activities. Those later ones will as well come up with WIP shots to be more suitable for a P&M blog.

    My finished Tau
The first Tau I painted have been some Fire Warriors and from today's point of view I have to rework the a little bit so I will not show them here ... now.
But I worked on a few other minis which are showable.

For Ethereal with its reworked painting from not so long ago. First version was ... well ... lacking experience.

I think my Longstrike got pretty good as well. Although the color adjustment on the picture is a little faulty.
Again lessons I learned but in this case on photographing. Esspecially concerning "white value correction".

My Sniper Drones took a lot of time because of the twisted Finecast parts... The reason why I haven't bought Kroot Hounds or Vespids till now.

When the new Tau codex was released I worked on some modified Kroot as well (for sniper ammo) but so far only one of them got painted (and was abused for a NMM experiment )

And the one I'm really proud of is my kitbashed/converted Fireblade:

It's made of parts from Fire Warriors and XV25s with a Space Marine torso plus some plasticard and green stuff.
I even have two WIP shots available of him.

    Additional painted Tau:

    Tau - Work in progress

Several other Tau and Kroot are stranded in WIP status on my desk.

For example a team of XV88s. Build and magnetized for the above mentioned Apo match.

Or the Kroot Shaper I started building several weeks ago.

and the "Counts as Darkstrider" I have converted on basis of a Pathfinder Shas'ui from the new plastic box

as well as two customized XV8 commanders and a new team of Fire Warriors

For the Fire Warriors I plan to do small small additions (maybe on the backpacks) to differ them from the older standard ones. Something like a MK2 version (next generation equipment).

For some of these character modells I even wrote a little bit of story backgroud, which can be found in my Wordpress blog, but it's all in German.
Maybe some day I'll find the time to translate them.

Oh, almost forgot the biggest baby amongst my Tau: the XV104 Riptide.

I' ve worked on it for some time now but since painting yellow can by quite frustrating I did not have a lot of progress lately. Nevertheless it's in playable status and served it's purpose already (Predator side armor does not like it's Ion Accelerator ^^)

Unfortunatelly while transporting the Riptide some antennas on the back broke and I'll have to work on a replacement now.

Space Marines - Custom chapter a.k.a "Suncaller"

When I began with 40K I knew I wanted some Space Marines a alternative to my Tau but without the bigger background knowledge and available rules options I couldn't decide on a existing chapter.
Thus my idea came up to create a custom chapter and design it and it's minis in a way that I could - ruleswise - play any existing chapter with it.
Considering the style I always liked the Space Wolves and as well got a lot of inspiration from the Ravenborn by Mastiff.

So far I justed trained painting on some of the Dark Vengeance minis like Tumriel (see above) and worked on a fex other kitbashed/converted modells

    like a Wolf Priest

    or some Scouts.

Chances are not particular big but existing that more of such models can be found here in the future.

    Infinity - Ariadna and ALEPH

My Squad of painted Ariadna minis has well grown over the last year. Above you can see the linup from July 2013.

Since then a few more have been added

as well as a little paint schema experiment with ALEPH

Well, as you might have guessed, there are a bunch of "work in progress" modells as well.

    Godslayer - Nordgaard

The Nordgaard of Godslayer is one of my younger projects which will hopefully get a lot of focus this year.
For those of you who might have had a look at it already, I can clearly recommend it. The rules are nice and the minis are beautifull. Just the studio paintjobs (or their photos) can be a bit awfull so con't get discouraged by those.

So far I just managed to paint three of my modells. Two warloards and a team leader.

The Runegate Keeper (Warlord of the Guild sub.faction). My favourite and I tried a lot of new things on it's base.

The Warsmith (Warlord of the Clan sub-faction). The first Godslayer mini I painted (and as far as I remember the first where I used cork for basing)

And last but not least the team leader of the Fjell Warriors (standard troops of Clan sub-faction). Another beauty although the snow did not turn out the way I planned it.

Waiting on my desk for further treatment: more Fjell Warriors, Einherjar unit (troops for Guild sub-faction) and a Fjellgangr.

Dystopian Legions - Federated States of America

OK, almost finished ... for today ... I promise. ;P

My newest project are the "Federated States of America" from Dystopian Legions.
I bought the starter set of a friend, assembled all the contianed minis so far I am still waiting for the best idea concerning basing theme and painting schema.

There we have the Federated Infantrymen a Mainstay Section (=Troops) with ther sergeant and a heavy weapon specialist attached.

    And some veterans: Wilderness Section

And for sure a commander (right one) and Dr Samuel R. Orlington (left), a character model.

I must say I really like the style of those minis and can't wait to continue to work on them.

    OK. Enough written.
I hope you like what I did show to you and it yould be nice to get some feedback on my creations and maybe some gallery votes.
I will try to write some regular updates here but maybe they will not effectively be that regular.

And to close this posting one of my misc fantasy minis (it's from Reaper) which is as well one of my personal favorites:

    Awesome stuff here already!
I really like your custom tau models like the Fireblade and the paint scheme is super crisp! Great work!

    Post by: pfibp

    Thanks HoeJarris.

I used my remaining vacation time to work on some Dystopian Legion models and a little bit on Infinity.

Did build a pair of Treadbikes for my FSA force.

They come with clear acrylic bases and I'm still thinking if I should put them on 40K bike bases instead.
Does somebody now Dystopian Legions well enough to know if there's something against it in the rules? Haven't been able to read them any further myself.

I worked on the basing on some of my minis as well. For example the lieutenant of my FSA.

Although the Federated States Arny is described as fast and mobile couldn't helb but build a static trench-like basing.
So far it looks quite good, but let's wait till some are painted.

Didn't have a very good idea for Dr Orlington so - although he's a character modell and deserves something special - his base got pretty simple.
Well there will be a little pool of warter at his feet (and presumably some mud on his trousers)

HMG Section on the other hand recieved a little more love. (not 100% finished. Maybe 95% ;P)

Last DL minis today have been two forward observers (one blister).
They can be used as additions for Federal Infantrymen and Armored Infantry and come with a nasty sounding mortar strike to assist their section.
Since they come on a 30mm base there's not much room to work with and thus again wuite simple basing.
Like with the gun section the left observer is still missing the nails on the wood planks. The lieutenant and the doctor already got them.

And last but not least I adopted a little puppy to fetch my newspaper in the morning.
Did some green stuff work on his base/foot to hide the natural stone there. Somehow it did not fit to the urban base by MAS. ^^

If you like some of my work, please leave a comment. Thanks.

Lots of very nicely painted minis, I like blogs with mixed game systems helps keep it more interesting.

I look forward to seeing more of your work especially your new puppy.

Thanks GiraffeX. I'm just afraid it may take some time till "puppy" meets paint.

Did some expertimental terrain building today.
Came up with the idea when I browsed the webshop of Miniature Scenery and started building without making big or detailed plans.
    Still a quite early WIP.

But now: Have a good night.

OK, busy working week so far but I was able to have at least some progress on my watertower (and prime some of my latest bases).

Slowly I can see where this experiment will be going.

Nice build, and good care of details, will keep an eye on this.

Might I suggest reinforcing the tank with some strips of card too? That way you could break the larger surfeces and bring it further appart from its former can self.

And weathering, of course, there's never too much of that...

    pfibp's assorted hobby stuff - Long absence = lots of updates @ 2014/01/16 08:23:46

    Post by: pfibp

Thanks. I'm glad you like it.

Yes, the upper part is far from finished.
The tank will get additional reinforcement, riveting, a hatch on top, a ladder and maybe some other details. Just didn't have the time by now.

Style shall by similar to this one. Maybe with less intense weathering.

OK, I did not have that much time the last two days to work on my tower, but it got at least a few more details.

    Please click for bigger images.

At present the water tower is still in pieces and I think I will keep it that way and work on some other modules in the future.
I just have to figure out a good mechanism to connect the biog lower and upper part. Maybe I can find some cheap magnets somewhere.

As well, after getting this far with it, I'm unsure if I should go for a flat top with a hatch or if I should build a cone shaped roof like this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:NewYorkCityWaterTower.JPG
    Any opinions?

Besides the terrain piece unfortunatelly no progress on my minis. But I got a "small" supply drop for my FSA.

Below you can find this weekend's progress on my tower.
I decides to go for a roof but I did build it with enough space for most figures on a 25mm round base.
On the main platform even most 40mm bases should find enough space.

    Please click for bigger images.

    Next step: painting.
Well, let's see when I find enough time.

I think it is finally time to come out of the dark shadows of lurking this thread...

that tower looks very good... highly detailed and with some nice features like the upper door, that is something I really like!

one thing I am marvelling over...the legs of the tower... how did you make these? what is their footprint? they look kinda hexshaped to me???...

and...some very cool dystopian stuff here too!!!...who wouldn´t envy you for these^^

    cheers, vik

    Post by: pfibp

    Thanks for the compliments, Vic.

The legs are simple, square-shaped wood pieces with 10x10mm width.
If you like more detailed progress descriptions, you could check this blog post I did write yesterday:
Original German version / Goggle Translate English version
I did not link it here, because it's in German but maybe the Google Translate version is OK for other people as well.

One of the day 2 progress pictures gives quite a good view on the lower constrcutions I think.

Glad you decided to go with the roof, it came along well indeed

Looks great already, will be waiting for the upcoming paint.

oh....now I understand...somehow the mere looking at the legs suggested a more complicated approach... but in fact this is way better... I like such detailed step by step descriptions...

I wish you all the fun with painting this beauty!

Thanks again to both of you.

This weekend I finally had some time to start with the painting (supported by the first season of "Once Upon A Time").
I'm not sure if I should keep the lower half all blue. Maybe I switch some parts to grey.
Excluding the weathering the upper half is quite finished. On the other hand as far as I know myself this could change real quick once I get a new idea. ^^

    I started another side project:

My original plan was to work on this last year. It should have been a christmas present to a colleague and a good friend who did support me a lot on my writing ambitions.
Well since last year was far to busy it will become a birthday, christmas or whatever present this year.
Basis is a Harbinger of Mennoth from Warmachine. Wings and shield arm come from a Deva Angel from Reaper Minis.
I still have to decide on the detailed basing elements and have to find a good material for the column pieces. Those on the picture are make of simple gypsum which is not hard/durable enough to hold the figure.

    OK, enough for today.

I think you should paint the bottom of the watertower in grey or a weathered metal color, but it's a seriously cool building.

OK, I did not have much time for the hobby last week, but I've got at least a small update.

Yes, it looks better with grey legs. Thanks for the advice, Brother SRM.
But I wanted to keep at least some blue to match the theme of the top.
Standard painting should be finished now. Next step weatthering.

    BTW:
A little more detailed view with the 4 Infinity minis I based and primed this weekend (from left to right): Caledonian Mormaer with HMG, Roger van Zant, William Wallace, Scout with Ojotnik

    Rust and grime to follow?

    Hello there,

I've got a few busy working day behind but nevertheless found a little bit of time to work on some of my minis.
Unfortunately still no news on the tower.

Matthew McConaughey ... well I mean Roger van Zant is receiving some of my time. Finally I must say, cause he already collected some dust.
If the odds are on his side, he should get finshed at the weekend.

His colleague of the USAridana forces (Foxtrot Ranger with light grenade launcher) has not seen that much color so far but maybe I can finish him at the weekend as well.

Third mini is a lady from the Convoy faction of Eden. Her name is "Gretchen" and she comes with a little ape companion named "Louie" (which is so far just primed).
I'm not 100% sure if I should stay wiht the colors I've chosen so far. But well, it's my first mini from Eden. I think I'll just go on and see what the progress might bring.

    Hope you like him.

    Good evening,

I'd like to give you a quick overview on my current projects.
Lots and lots of WIPs on my desk with all the good intentions to make some progress an most of them.

    Infinity

There are these two Ariadnian guys I'm trying to paint at present

but I also worked on the basing a a bunch of other ones.
    Just a "few"

Closer looks to the basing. Mainly done with PVA and sand but with addition of some bigger stones and some used and dried tea.

And those tow ALEPH ladys would like some "love" as well.

    Godslayer

Since I was already working on the Ariadna bases I did the same on the ones of my Nordgaard Fjell Warriors. Just with the additon of a good portion of cork.

    Eden

Gretchen and Louie from Eden (Convoy) still need some work, too. Maybe something I can do this weekend.

    Dystopian Legions

And Dr Orlington and his companion are still a little to grey as well. ^^

    Terrain Building

In addition I worked on some simple, modular walls the last weeks.

Easy to build. YOu just need some cork, glue and a few other materials.
This is the tutorial I modified slightly for my walls.
    And

I did integrate a small gimmick.

    WH40K

Not much activity on 40K on my side at present. But there was still a little time to work on a color test scheme (very early stage)

An check for some conversion meterial for future Ethereals:

OK, I'll be back at my desk them.

    Thanks for the comment, Moltar.

I haven't had much time to paint so far this month but the last days I at least managed to work on the paint scheme test for my Space Marines. It's not 100% finished but - except for msiing basing - maybe 90-95% or so.
Besides that I'm working on a few Infinity modells and some of my dwarves from Godslayer. Unfortunatelly not much to show so far.

Nice work on the (many) other things and the marine looks promising.

Thanks, Dr. H. Took me a lot of time and practice (espacially the skin) to get Van Sant finished. Fortunatelly people like Angel Giraldez help with the color choices. ^^

The last days I worked on my Nordgaard dwarves from Godslayer and I finally got the Fjell Warriors unit finished.
    Comments appreciated.

Thanks to both of you for the comments. Such feedback makes you keep going no matter the circumstances.

Since the beginning of this year I try to do some kind of review and planning for my projects each month and as the calendar tells me it's about time.

I finished my test Marine during the last days.
Did not add much on him. Mostly the base and some dirt.

Besides this and the dwarves I presented yesterday I also worked on some terrain pieces.
For example my water tower got an alternative lower section

and I did build some more modular wall segments. The bigger part still needs to be painted.
In case someone's interested, you can find a tutorial I wrote her: German version (original) / English version (Google Translate)

The progress on my Eden minis is unfortunately very limited at present, but Gretchen at least got a few more colors.

At the beginning of this month I also worked on my Winged Harbinger of Mennoth (a present planned for a good friend).

Next up on my "to do list" are:

Brewer of Ordrodir for my Nordgaard (Starter Box would be completely painterd then)

and on or two of those big beauties
Wishes and suggestions are accepted but I make no promises to fulfill them.

Ah, using my free time this week to catch up with some things. For example posting again here.

Last weekend I've been to a Massive Voodoo Beginner Class.
This is my Daemonette result from that event.
Learned a lot. It's not 100% finished unfortunatelly.

    More angles:

Hopefully there will be more updates on other minis the next days.

    Thanks to both of you.

Bebop, I know your work (not only the kroot).
Nice stuff. Great ideas and and sone cool conversions.
I really like the kroot and their style. Would be interesting to get a codex supplement for them or so. But on the other hand WH40K is already complex enough.

Check out pekels blog. He's doing a great codex of his own on I guess photoshop. Would be so cool to see a kroot one. That's a labor of love for me so I haven't gotten real far with them haha. Keep posting stuff and ill be inspired and ill paint more kroot and then all will be right in the world!

Thanks. Wasn't easy because the face is so damn small.
Inspiration/input came from CMON (Japanese woman): http://www.coolminiornot.com/articles/1310-ethnic-skintones

    Basis is "Medium Flesh".
For shadows: Medium Flesh + some Chocolate Brown
1st light: Medium Flesh + Iraqui Sand
2nd light: Medium Flesh + Iraqui Sand + Ivory
... and a good portion of luck.

Nice work. Really like the head. The skin and hair are nice.

The base looks a bit plain in spite of the texture.
It could do with a bit more finer texture. Maybe all it needs is something as simple as a dry-brush (the grey in particular looks like it's just two-tone, dark and light).

I feel like it could also do with a little plant-life. Just a little leafy thing, not too big to distract attention away from the model. But will bring a little something to the base and make it look less plain.
Unless, of course, you are going for a dead planet look. Then you want something that fits that.

    Just some suggestions.

    Thank you very much.
Your hint worked fine. So easy I simply did not think of it myself.
In German the fitting proverb is: Manchmal sieht man den Wald vor lauter Bäumen nicht. (Sometimes you can't see the woods because of the many trees). ^^

I even found some fitting leaves amongst my supplies.

The basing shall resemble an Asian Garden, Minimalistic by design you could say.
Similar to those from Secret Weapon Miniatures: http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=79_30_87&products_id=444

Yeah, English has the same saying.
and that is a common problem with this sort of thing and why we are here.

That looks much better. Good job and good choice to make the leaves red to match the cloth.

I see, zen garden. Check out Ramos Asura's thread, he's been experimenting with the same kind of basing. You may see something useful.

    Thanks.

Yes, Isobel and ComTech are in the queque but not at the top pf the list.
Next mini will be one from Godslayer and then maybe a Dogwarrior, the Anaconda or a Fjell Gangr (another Godslayer figure).
Or even one of the many WIP Infinity minis I've standing around here (Foxtro LGL, 3rd Highlander AP HMG, Zoavre HMG Sapper, etc... )

Concerning the water tower: I did some work on rust a few days back but only on the top part. Maybe I can find some time to work on it the next days and post one or two pictures.

Jehan-reznor wrote:Nicely painted but the leaves have the wrong color!

    Thank you.

Well, if it should be a Japanese Cherry you're right.
What I had in mind was more something like this: https://www.google.de/search?q=roter+f%C3%A4cherahorn&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=jJpXU7joGIXWtAaZ14HwBg&sqi=2&ved=0CGwQsAQ&biw=1680&bih=877
But maybe it's less traditional and a new breed from the 22nd century.

    Thanks a lot Dr H.

    New month, new plans.
I went through all the ongoing projects and mini-projects on my desk and I've put some of them into the smaller "good chance to be worked on soon" pool.

A while ago I started the weathering on my water tower but so far only the upper part (tank) met the dust... ehm... rust.
I'm quite satisfied with the rust but still unsure what to do with the wood or if I should keep it as it is.

I also re-worked the base of the "Winged Harbinger of Mennoth" diorama which I'm working on. It's going to be a present for a good friend who supports me a lot in my painting.

    Before:

One of my next major painting projects will quite for sure be the Fjell Gangr for Godslayer.
The painting on the base is more or less finished and the figure already primed.

On the other hand "Gretchen" from Convoy (Eden) is pretty far in the painting progress. I think I will continue to work on her tomorrow.
I'm not 100% satisfied with the color of the base. The reddish sand looked well during the planing but now...!? Any ideas?

    And there's always Infinity.

Worked on an attached gun plus ammo feed for my Anaconda.
Still very early stage because there was no time left before I went away to visit my family in northern Germany and as well haven't found enough time since I'm back home.
Getting my appartment into a "livable" state was somehow more important. Well advantage is I was able to make up a little more space for hobby stuff. ^^

Also I got this used Ninja Sniper for a good price and couldn't stop myself from working on a special base project.
Should become a Asian/Japan inspired roof scene.

    And tomorrow?
Mmh, Star Wars / painting marathon?

Not much progress so far this week(end).
But I've built a new unit for Dystopian Legions: Hotchkiss Revolving Cannon.

and after some feedback in a German wargaming forum I did a few improvements on Gretchen's base:
    - dried gras (darkened with a little bit of Army painter wash)
    - lighter color on the bones (almost pure white)
    - added a small lizard

    Thanks Dr H.
This weekend I got "distracted" by a lot of housework and similar activities.
But I was able to experiment on building cheap silicone molds and Hesco bastion modules. Still a lot of progress necessary but the path to go is visible.

Mainly worked on scatter terrain and experiments the last days.

For example I've build simple half cover terrain pieces from an Ikea silicone ice cubes form. The barricades are made from gypsum and are ~2cm high. On the picture they look smaler because of the slight birds perspective.

The other piece (the Hesco barrier bag) is another experiment I'm working on.
But I also tested a recipe for cheap silicone formes I found online.
Link to the google translated tutorial in my blog: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=de&langpair=de|en&u=http://pfiek.wordpress.com/
Direct link to the English tutorial I based my experiment on: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Make-Your-Own-Sugru-Substitute/?ALLSTEPS

Works quite fine for non-complex objects and is a lot cheaper than pourable silicone.

I also painted a little bit on my Godslayer Fjell Gangr, but I did not get very far by now.

Did not do much painting the last days but worked on the next experiment fpr scatter terrain (and played a little War Thunder Ground ).

First I tried to build a very modular and flexible Hesco bastion by finding an easy way to create the individual Hesco boxes/sacks from gypsum.
Not everthing worked as planned and there are still some optimizations necessary but the current result looks quite OK to me.

If you are interested in my whole experiment, you can find the tutorial in my blog (Google translate to English): http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=de&sl=de&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fpfiek.wordpress.com%2F2014%2F05%2F25%2Fpeters-versuchslabor-hesco-barrikaden-moglichst-modular%2F&sandbox=1

During the experiment I also came up with the idea to build a variant with several linked boxes. In case I want to build a larger fortification it could be useful.
Please note that this wall is not build with the exactly same technique as the single one above.

    Danke, Herr Doktor.

On Sunday I continued painting on my Fjell Gangr but so far I wasn't able to finish it. Metal parts, braces, boots, etc still have to be done.

And after a major drawback on the gun for my Anaconda TAG (ammo feed made out of plasticard broke and I replaced it by a piece of aluminum) I could add a few more details to it.
The fotos do not show a lot. Maybe I can do better ones later this week.

But most imprtant of all: I did some big changes/progress on my Winged Harbinger of Mennoth.
First of all I did a few more things on the base. Glued some dirt on it for a little extra detail on the stone plates.
As well I finished the label and did a connection between the shaped aluminum and the wood socket.
I already primed it because I thought I would find the time to start painting it but I was wrong. Got distracted by several other things. ^^

The orginal model had a sword with Mennoth icons on it. Never liked it so I replaced it with a lance.
The tip is from a WHFB Chaos Marrauder Horsemen. The shaft is made from a 2mm brass rod.

    "Before" and "after" shot:

Next step was to build a nice transition between the wings and the hood and the back.
A little tricky beause the wings still need to be removable for painting. The white mass is "Pattafix". Something like BlueTac.

And last but not least I used the rest of my Green Stuff to do something with the shield.
It's from the same Reaper miniature the wings are from (Deav Angel) and had a strange symbol on it. After removing this it looked a little naked so I modelled a trim and a new symbol on it.

No, the "U" is no reference to the Ultramarines. ^^
The future owner's names starts with a "U".

If you like my new creations, please leave a comment and/or a vote on the pics.
    Thanks.

    News from my workbench!

The Fjell Gangr of my Nordgaard (Godslayer) is finally finished.
Nevertheless if you have some feedback for improvement, just let me know.

With him my Nordgaard "Special Forces" have grown to quite a size.
On the other hand I've still two unpainted units here and some of the models for this faction haven't even be released, yet.

But this is not the only project which I'm working on at present.
After a long time of idea juggling and planing I started working on the main complex for what might be my rusty, gritty industrial plant table in the future. More distant than near future.

So far there was a some foam board and card board involved and for sure a lot of glue. But also several parts of Hirts Arts pipes. My first molds of this company and altohugh there not cheap they're totally worth it.
I placed some of my Ariadna on the building to give you a hint of its size.
The bigger plan is to also build several smaller buildings in the same style and lots of connecting pipes and walkways and so one. As modular as possible to change the tabel setup as needed.

Damn, the idea was too nice.

I've got some news from my workbench. Unfortunatelly no minis. Got distracted by other things.

First I did built a little trophy for the small betting game I'm organizing at work (Soccer World Chanpionship). The ball on top was originally the packaging of a cheap rain poncho. The rest is made fromm wood and putty.
You can still open it and put the price money inside.

If you are interested in some pictures from the biulding process, you can find them in my blog: Original German verison / Google translated English one.

And I painted up the barricades I've built a while ago.

    Connected "wall" version:

    Collection of different types:

Last but not least: Yesterday evening I was sick of some of the chaos on my desk thus I've created a small bruch holder made from cocktail straws and cardboard.

Wolsung is - as far as I know it right now - a very neat game and - even more important - a really cool setting. MAS - the creator - had some interesting ideas combined with a nice portion of self-irony.
If you are interested you should really have a look at the "Wolsung World Tour" (don't have the link available. jsut google for it). It's a free PDF providing lots of world and races background.

Some news from ma painting desk as well.

First my second Foxtrot Ranger was finished.
I'm not fully satistfied with the painting result but was a little out of training. Maybe it's also a point of the camouflage... *unsure*

Well, it was an easy figure. Nevertheless thank you.
The draw back was, I did paint very much the last week. Just a little bit at the weekend.

But there's still some progress on my projects.
I've built some reinforcements for my Infinity minis. A few new Ariadna (e.g. tractor mules on 55mm bases), some Nomads (bases mostly done) for a side project and an Imperial Agent for Yu Jing. Just a very coll miniature I want to paint. ^^

And I was curious about the quality of the Reaper Bones minis.
Their prices are just too aluring (? correct English word). 2-3 Euros for standard size figures at my favorite dealer. ~6 for the big ogre.

The material is interesting. Its quite soft but durable.
Removing moldlines with a sharp knife is OK. Bending back into the correct shape is similar to resin. Reaper's tips: Soften in almost cooking water, bend into shape, shock in ice water. Works fine for me.
Who's getting the hint/idea behind the group of four on the right? ^^

My current darlign is this female paladin. Was just too tired yesterday to continue painting.

Not my only darling to be honest. Fell a little bit in love with this lady from Freebooter's Fate as well.

And since I already hat the colors on the palette one of my Ariadna got her face paintes as well.
All three faces are not finished, yet. But it's interesting to see the big differences in the facial features. The Ariadna one's are quite hard and although the two other ones are a softer type they are still a lot different.

Last but not least I finally started painting the pieces of my diorama. OK, only the socket label so far and there are still some steps to do on it.
Maybe a little more sepia wash and for sure the inscription.

Inspired by the Stormclaw box I picked my old Wolf Scout conversions of the shelf, revised them a little bit and made up my mind about what the background of this team could be.

The whole story can be found here (now in English as well): http://pfiek.wordpress.com/2014/07/19/suncaller-scouts-uberarbeitet-revised/

    First we have Haymish.
He's the old one in the team and somehow the leader.

Next up is Lemmy the marsksman.

The hot-blooded Sid. Joined the scouts directly from the blood claws. CC specialist of the team.

Lobster. Earned this nickname from all the scars he got from a fire accident.

Marv. Heavy weapons guy and not always the fastest thinker.

    What's your opinion?

    Thanks.

Although it was damn hot this weekend I was able to work on two other things.

First a Rune Priest conversion. More pictures and some words on his backgropund can be found here: http://pfiek.wordpress.com/2014/07/20/suncaller-leaders-runenpriester-rune-priest/

And I got the last slaps of paint on my first Reaber Bones figure.

Too much time at work and elsewhere but not at home.
Nevertheless and despite of the too warm weather I could work on a few things.

I was finally able to make some good pictures of an older conversion for a Wolf Priest.
Also wrote some words on him here: http://pfiek.wordpress.com/2014/07/27/suncaller-leaders-wolfspriester-wolf-priest/
Made the backpack modular to use him with Blood Claws and Sky Claws for example.

Since I don't like the standard Crozius Arcanum versions I did simply build one myself from different bits and carves sprue.

Also started to do the basing for the Wolf Scouts and the Rune Priest I showed earlier.

Next conversions are already in the making.
    - Another scout that I got for cheap on ebay. Still has to be "wolfyfied".
    - another Rune Priest / Librarian (left, second picture)
    - a scratch-build Iron Priest (early WIP, middle,. second pic). Next steps: servo arm and maybe some Doc Oc tentacles like in Spider Man 2.
    - special purpose Wolf Guard "Logan". TO be used with Sky Claws or Blood Claws (or even as Lone Wolf)
    - last but not least (third picture) special "Rune Priest in Terminator Armor" project. Lots of Grey Knights parts. Their iconography will be removed and replaced by runes etc.

And as we all know one can never have enough models I did also build a Painboy. I just like the figure somehox and want to paint it.
He will either end in my vitrine or will become a present for a friend that plays Orks.
Lastly I finished the home-made gun for my Anaconda TAG.The ammo box got not as smooth as I wished but lets wait how it will look when it's one day painted.

    Hi there,

although I did not manage to paint anything during the last days at least I picked up the new Space Wolves Codex and worked on some more conversions.

First one today is a Terminator planed as a Lone Wolf. But he could also be used as a Wolf Lord or a Wolf Guard.
Although this equipment combination is not legal anymore with the new codex (only hammer, wolf claws of combi weapon with the shield) I think I'll keep him this way. The axe simply looks better.
His shield still has to be modified. I think I will cut of the eagle on the front and sculpt some fur over it.

The second one is a Wolf Priest / Chaplain (rules-wise, not fluff-wise) in TDA I have been working on.
The inspiration from him came from this conversion here on Dakka.
The idea behind him is that he was formerly a Dark Angel that joined forces with the other Space Marine forces when they were all trap on a remote planet outnumbered by chaos forces that wanted to kick their but.
More or less basic background story of my chapter. Don't remember if I have mentioned a lot about it here, yet.

Next up is a power armor conversion I did.
Based on my Champion of the Emperor that got a little damaged when stripping the old paint from the Failcast I gave him a new blade and new shoulder pads and so.

I'm still unsure what to use him for and thus haven't decided on the final helmet.
I think he will either be a Wolf Lord or a Wolf Guard Battle Leader.
Here's a collection of the heads on the short-list. I could either go classic Space Wolf for him or more Dark Angel or maybe somewhat neutral.
    Any suggestions from your side?

And last but not least I thought a little bit about the bases for my Marines.
I did not want to go all rocks again and thus decided to try something urban or urban battle. With cracked aasphalt and so on.
So far did two test bases. Perhaps I can to some painting tests on them next weekend.
The one with the wolf has a large crack thorugh the center. Can't be seen well on the pciture.

If you want to read more about those builds just have a look at my blog: http://pfiek.wordpress.com/2014/08/10/suncaller-veteranen-veterans/

Good work. I'm liking all the conversions and modifications.

At present I'm working on my first Freebooter's Fate mini.

And another typical result of my painting sessions.

I saw the constant rise in the thread counter. They had to be there. Thanks for proving me right. At least in some way.

The stripes are actually not that difficult (OK, maybe it was also a good portion of luck and intuition).
I first painted a rather light blue stripe. Than added a more darker/saturated one in the middle of the first and afterwards added a few highlights with a blue even brighter than the first one.
In the end finished it with a very thin glaze of black. To get some depth into the recesses.

Good clean painting on Regicide. I think she would benefit from some lining in select places, like between the shirt and skin or between sword's blade and guard for example.

Yes, I like using the thumbtoo because it:s the shortest way to the miniature in my eyes. And I have more controll over the fluid than when using a tissue.

Concerning current activities: I did not manage to paint at all this weekend.
Feels like the Saturday and/or Sunday just disappeared...
So there are still a lot of WIPs on my desk. Like those ones here.

As well I got some new additions to my supply of unpainted stuff. ^^
The new Antipodes for example for which I also just finished an unboxing article: http://pfiek.wordpress.com/2014/08/31/unboxing-infinity-ariadna-antipode-assault-pack/

In addition there are two new pirates for my collection.
Left one is "Marlene Dick" from Tales of War and the right one Isabelle Locke from Reaper Minis. Both on decking bases from Freebooter's MIniatures.
Right side in the front there is a FCC Housemaster from MERCS and the lady on the horse ios a Nordgaard Valkyrie for my Godslayer collection.

Besides building minis I as well wrote two tutorials for my blog this week.
For simple printerd base labels: http://pfiek.wordpress.com/2014/08/27/tutorial-ausgedruckte-baseschilder-printed-base-labels/
    And home mwade washes: http://pfiek.wordpress.com/2014/08/30/tutorial-hausgemachte-washes-home-made-washes/

Lots of exciting minis on your painting desk pfibp. In the top I see a Wolsung lady and then a nice Aleph lady as well and some more Infinity minis?

The Nordgaard Valkyrie models looks really nice and the Antipodes are a lot bigger than I expected.

Looking forward to seeing all these painted up

Yeah, the problem with the painting and so... ^^
Might take a while or two.

At least I started basing the Antipodes yesterday.

Concerning the minis in the first picture.
In the back (from left to right):
    Wolsung - Alice Tinkerly MK2
Infinity - ALEPH - Asura with combi rifle
    Infinity - Ariadna - SpeacOps
Infinity - Ariadna - Uxia Mcneill (the new SAS version)
Infinity - Ariadna - male Dozer Engineer
Infinity - Yu Jing - Oniwaban
Dystopian Legions - FSA - Dr Orlington

    In the front:
Infinity - Ariadna - Duroc (empty base. Figure is mounted on a stick for better handling. Otherwise you could not reach his belly well when painting.)
    EDEN - Convoy - Otto
EDEN - Convoy - Louie (Minion of Gretchen)

    Small news from my desk.

Basing of the new Antipodes Assault Pack is 3/4 done.
Still have to think about the height of the rocky part on the third Antipode's base.

I also worked on one of the MERCS minis I bought some time back mostly out of curiosity.
I'll maybe use it as a proxy for my Ariadnas (or just put it into the vitrine ^^)

As well there are two new pirate ladies for my crew.
Since I don't plan to play Freebooter's Fate I will add models from different manufacturers every now and then.

Last but not least I did the basing for my newest Godslayer minis.

Didn't have a lot of time to spare during the week but at least finished and old terrain building project and was able to work on a little bit of backlog.

I unpacked some minis from Reaper and did a little basing on one of them.
Also prepared the cork for the mountain base of the forest giant from Zenit. He will be a proxy for my seconf Fjellgangr for Godslayer.
Last but not least I continued the work on the base for my Winged Harbinger of Mennoth diorama. Still some smaller things to correct and a lot of gras etc to add.

    Good work on the dwarf.

That's the way of doing greying hair! Going the have to remember that. Dunno why I've not thought of it before... well, not had much call to paint grey hair, but if I did I may not have thought about it...

At present I'm working on a four men team of FSA Treadbikes for Dystopian Legions.
First one can be called "painted" now.

Still have to work on basing and a bit of weathering. And maybe one or two decals from Bolt Action and/or Flames of War.

That looks very nice pfibp, must have been hard doing the yellow strip on the trousers. The green on the bike seems a little flat though.

    pfibp's assorted hobby stuff - Long absence = lots of updates @ 2014/11/27 07:44:00

    Post by: pfibp

The yellow stripe was quite easy actually since it's modeled on the figure already. It's a little higher (embossed?) than the rest of the leg.

The lighting I did setup yesterday was not the best as the pictures showed afterwards. That's why the green might look a bit flat.
I'll try to do some different shots in few days or so. Or when the rest of the unit is finished.

It's been a while since the last update.
Frist half of December I was busy and second half I was ill. :(
But here are some updates now.

    The Treadbikes unit is finished.
    More pictures here: https://pfiek.wordpress.com/2015/01/10/dystopian-legions-fsa-treadbikes/

I also worked on a little SAGA side project by painting an Anglo Danes warlord: https://pfiek.wordpress.com/2015/01/10/saga-warlord-der-anglodanen/

And I did a little color scheme test for my small future PanO force.
Turned out quite well in my eyes: https://pfiek.wordpress.com/2015/01/16/infinity-panoceania-spec-ops/

    Thanks boys.

Here are some new WIPs from my painting desk.

    1) More Nordgaard dwarves
My plan is to get those bearded guys finished by the end of this week.
SO far still in the realm of "possible" ^^

    2) Old Armalion figures
Did the basing of those old figures from Armalion in my collection. This way I can paint them from time to time if I'm in the right mood for a quich and quite easy model.

    3) Dystopian Legions
Since I had some remaining basing mix I took the opportunity to prepare some of my FSA models.
By name two Buffalo Hunters and two Scouts from the Wilderness Section and the famous Clock-O-Dile "Louie".

    4) SAGA Asia
I have to admit I'm somewhat of a big Asia fan and maybe one day I might even be able to visit Japan or so.
Till then I have to small projects like this one: SAGA in an asian setting.
Have been thinking about it since I found a German fan project with battle boards for asian faction and now everytime I encounter some nice fitting minis I try to pick them up and add them to my collection.
Here we have six samurai from Perry Miniatures, two from Zenit Miniatures which produce some very nice asian figures for their rank & file game "Kensei" (female in the middle and old guy in the back on the left side) and one from Reaper Minis (right side in the back).
Maybe you will see more of them in the near future.

    Next Godslayer dwarves are finished.

Which now gives me two max number fully painted units of Fjell Warriors.
Here assembled together with their Warlord (centre).

Painting (and sculpt) of the FJell Warriors is quite simple and since there are only two trooper scuplts I treid to add as much additional variety as possible. For example by doing some "fancy" shield details.

More pictures of those bearded men can be found in my blog (article only in German at present): https://pfiek.wordpress.com/2015/02/08/godslayer-nordgaard-fjell-warriors/

Next up: "Snow White" and "Rose Red"
Be carefull. They might snap. ;P

Most important thinks first: Thanks Dr H for the compliments.

    OK, now the backlog.
Yes, I have been adsent here for quite a long time. Was busy with lots ans lots of things (and still am in some way).
For example I was applying for a new job near the part of Germany where I grew up. Did not work out ... for the good as I can say now after some time of reflection. Long story.

So much on that. What was done on the hobby side?

    Godslayer

Well, the Bloodvargs got finished and got a bit of company in a Chainslayer.

More pictures of them can be counf in my blog:
    https://pfiek.wordpress.com/2015/03/11/godslayer-nordgaard-bloodvarg-snow-white/
    https://pfiek.wordpress.com/2015/03/12/godslayer-nordgaard-bloodvarg-rose-red/
    https://pfiek.wordpress.com/2015/03/14/godslayer-nordgaard-chainslayer/

In case you are interested here are two WIP stages of the Chainslayer:

Those three were my Febuary package for the paiting project I was working one.
In April I tried to do another Godslayer block but It did not work out. Well, now I have a WIP Valkyrie and some Kinswords standing around. ^^
Nevertheless I did manage to paint a lot of stuff during this project. Picture comes below.

I also bought some second hand Banebrood of a friend and gave them new basing and bid of other additions.
To you this means you get the chance to see some "chaos" stuff here in the future.

Armalion / The Dark Eye stuff

March block of my painting project consisted of a few of my old Armalion / The Dark Eye figures.

More pictures can be found again in my blog:
    https://pfiek.wordpress.com/2015/04/19/dsa-armalion-eine-kleine-reise-durch-aventurien-1/
    https://pfiek.wordpress.com/2015/04/19/dsa-armalion-eine-kleine-reise-durch-aventurien-2/
    https://pfiek.wordpress.com/2015/05/02/dsa-armalion-eine-kleine-reise-durch-aventurien-3/

Here I also have a few WIP shots for you:

    Result of painting project

This all leaves my with an - by rules - unsuccesful painting project but nevertheless a lot of newly paintied minis.

    Other stuff done

That's not all I have done during the last months.

I worked on a little present for a (female) collague: a wireless tin can phone. (long background story)

On the third picture you can see "Nurse Kitty" giving advice on some helpful phone number (general emergency number, anonym alcoholics hotline, my office number, etc ).
For a bit more details you can have a look here: https://pfiek.wordpress.com/2015/05/01/peter-bastelt-schnurloses-dosentelefon/

One evening (or was is two?) I did a small basing experiment for one of my SAGA models: https://pfiek.wordpress.com/2015/02/17/saga-eine-base-fur-den-viking-warlord/

We also should not forget the container building experiment I did.
Nice and easy way to cheap containers in my eye, but have a look yourself: https://pfiek.wordpress.com/2015/05/09/gelandebau-container-2-0/

But my favourite project in the last weeks was this little diorama based on a Reaper Bones figure. Who said the figures are bad?
Yes, they have there flaws (fingers on the left hand for example), but I think they are still quite OK. Especially for their low price.

    WIPs available as well:

    Current projects

For sure I did not stop working.

My Winged Harbinger still wants to get finished but had to be put aside in favour of the other stuff shown above.

As mentioned before the Valkyrie for my Nordgaard in partially done. The proxy for my second Fjellgangr is started as well. OK, only got skin base color so far.

Next up we have a "little" Space Marine that wants to get painted. I'm thinking about revising the idea for my custom chapter. A few things turned out not so great and since not that many models are painted by now...

And because I'm more in a diorama mood at present I have two additional candidates for that topic: Frank Miller's Batman and some Trollbloods warlock (or so).

    So much for now.
    Was a bit. Wasn't it?
