http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/minibox/the-mini-box-simple-storage-solution
A model storage solution that is both sturdy and cost effective. You'll be able to transport or store 160 infantry models for just $30.
My Name is Robert, my business partner (Eric) and I have scoured hobby shops and online retailers looking for affordable Mini storage or transport cases for our miniatures. We always end up taking our last army out of foam and putting it into a pile to transport our new army. We got very tired of damaging our well painted models and decided to address this issue.
What we have designed is a storage case for miniatures. It is not complicated or fancy but will keep your models safe while at home or on the road. A sturdy cardboard construction that is designed to hold the weight of a small human but light weight and compact enough to work as an at home storage solution. We are packing these boxes with enough foam to hold 160 models . The original foam will be 1" Infantry foam and is designed to fit into most standard sized cases.
Our retail price on these boxes will be $30 making them cheaper than most of its competitors. We are accomplishing this by doing the designs ourselves and purchasing the boxes and foam in bulk.
We are sick of overpaying for foam and we hope that you all approve of our solution.
BOX DESCRIPTION
Box Dimensions -14.5" x 11" x 5.5"
Infantry Foam Dimensions 14" x 10.5" x 1.25"
Infantry Foam Sheets are organized in 4 rows of 10 slots

I think this is a fantastic idea and I really hope this gets off the ground. Ive always felt that carrying cases were incredibly over priced.

Wow those dimensions and the idea are almost exactly identical to the already existing card cases from kr-multicase. It's almost like they have exactly copied someone else's product, such innovation.

I'd like to see a pic of the foam and its cut outs for straightness and professionalism. I just rest asked a box that looks identical to that for minis, and got my hands on a bunch of good foam for it, all free, but if this looks better than I might jump on it for my KOW troops.

KR is a good product. I own two cases for X-Wing. But one 51mm thick tray with 40 infantry slots costs nearly 15 USD. So that's 60 USD before the box to put them in. This is $30 with the box.

Backed for $100.
All the cases out there are just so expensive!!! I want something cheap for bulk storage. I'm not looking for a beauty contest winner. I just want something to throw in my closet.
Really hope this goes over well. It seems simple enough to go over well, while at the same time filling a specific need within the hobby.
Good luck!!!

My name is Robert and i am more than happy to defend myself.
Yes our dimensions are very similiar to many other cases, gw, kr, and many others, I own several of both of those brands and i am never going to put down there product. The trueth is i just got tired of overpaying for my cases and i wanted to find a cheep alternative that i could especially use at home. When the best solution cost $45 for a box with some foam i was floored so i did a little research and decided to make my own.
We include our motto because I wanted everyone to see the way our company does business. It is important to me to be as transparent as possible and i am always reachable on facebook or by email at robert@exemplarimports.com
We will have photos and our first sample in the next few weeks and we will be posting tons of photos once we have them in hand.
I hope this sates any questions and i want to thank all the backers who have been so generous up to this point.

Personally I backed this project for 225 since I have met the Project Owner and have actually played 40k games against him in tourneys.
I posted this here to help get his project out there among the community.
Is he competing against existing similar products? Sure, there is not many things out there that are 100% new ideas.
160 space marines, IG, orks etc in sturdy box for $30, yeah I would buy that box to protect all those models.
hopefully you guys will too, so that this gets funded and I actually get my boxes!! LOL

I would suggest a redesign of the box graphics. Keep it simple and professional. Just a logo would be fine. That said, the basic idea here does not need to be novel. All that I really care about is price, quality, and delivery. So far, it seems like we only have info on price. And the price is great so I'm in on the early bird. I'll be looking for further info on what kind of quality we get at this price and RTP's plans to deliver.

Well I am tempted to snag an early bird... but, reading the page a little more closely, you're saying these will be made in China and delivered in April. You acknowledge Chinese New Year... but I just don't see that happening at all.
I would love to buy these if they were available and I think it's great that folks are kickstarting it... but I have done my fair share in that department on other projects . Still, will be watching this as I'd be very likely to buy a few of these at full retail price once they were available.

Looks okay to me, maybe a bit "drawn out" so to speak, but otherwise nice and striking. I would rather see that on the box then the heraldric eagles you currently have. Anyway, it won't keep make me withdraw my pledge or anything I just think it would get more people interested if it looked more professional.

You can already buy tab-folding mailers for obscenely cheap in bulk.
Then it just becomes about filling with foam.
I don't find those prices very cheap. Just seems like a slight undercut to make themselves relevant.

Shouldn't that be 28 to 32mm? 22mm seems a tad small. Although, I suppose, that depends on how you're measuring it.
I've got a lot of the non-standard scales (like Rackham and Ilyad), so this solution may not be for me.

22mm infantry is a standard model size for 4ok and WHFB as well as many other game systems. 22mm is the base size of the models. not the cut out Also a huge thank you for those who have taken the time to check out our project and back us. Basic standard gw precut foam is almost exactly the same size

The foam is 14" x 10" which is about 356mm x 254mm.

So the trays are only meant to hold infantry models? It looks nice enough but does not solve my storage problems with cavalry and warbeasts. The stretch goal is also oddly specific and kind of a wasted opportunity to include other tray sizes. I've got tons of foam for 28mm infantry so while it sounds like a cool idea I don't really need them at the moment. Like I said, that will change if I can put FoW minis in tjem

what are you looking for, obvously i dont expect to make everyone happy but new ideas are welcome.
My armies are more diverse in size. My current smallest army (Legion of Everblight) has about 50 infantry-sized models including several taller models with long swords, spears, and banners. Sure, it is open to expansion but 160 infantry is way out of the scope of even the largest collection I could imagine myself buying. That same army has about 25 medium-large models ranging from ogres, to cavalry, to infantry with poses or capes that make them oversized. I also need room for a dozen or so heavy warbeasts, whic take up a lot of space. Any legion player will tell you about how irritating it is trying to find a tray for Thagrosh 2, an angelius or two, a seraph, and a sorceress on hellion. These models need at least four inches of foam to stand up in and have wings that take up lots of area in a tray regardless of how they are oriented. Battlefoam has custom cut trays for those models but we both know that is an expensive option -and it offers little room for expansion. Then there are my other armies.
So what do I need? Good, sturdy boxes that have many foam tray options.
I won't get into gargantuans, colossals, and other superheavy models here since that seems to be beyond the scope of the box itself.
82240
Post by: Rtpminis
Thank you for your response that sounds like a hassle to be able to pack. so here are our expansion goals and we can see if that helps fill your needs more if not i understand.
- Tank foam - this will despite my best efforts probably be a 4" pick and pull sheet that you could easily use for some of those larger models you spoke about. this would still allow for a a single infantry sheet on top for magnetized pieces or your 25 troops
- Bike / Calvary - this will actually be 2 different sizes the bike foam will be 2" tall with cut outs measuring 2.5"x1.25" to allow room for different bike types and the cavalry will be 3" tall with the same cut outs. you will be able to mix and match these throughout the boxes once the goals are hit. the bike foam is perfect for laying down banner carriers and other odd shapped models and i believe the cavalry foam will fit your cavalry models. I hope this helps.
Allot of this info in this post has not been finalized that is why it is not on the site, but i am more than happy to share my current plans.

Why not stick with an already "standard" tray size? Am I missing something here? Wish everyone used gw size...
Mini box 14" x 10.5"
Gw 14.25" x 10.25"
Sabol 13" x 7.75"
Battlefoam 15.5" x 12"
Kr 15" x 10"
Why everyone gotta be different and difficult......?

Post by: namadio
Yeah the box is slightly larger than gw dimension but if I got gw trays from a plastic case why would I wanna put in a card box. Need cheaper gw trays for my plastic cases!!
Edit:
Also who the f@&$ needs more objective markers, stretch goals moar foam onry.
Second also, checked out their website and their ebay store. Their ebay feedback is pretty gakky with biggest complaint being poor packaging of the minis for shipment. That's always reassuring from someone who is making mini packaging . Pretty tough to screw up rectangular holes in foam I hope. I pledged for two cases. Can't beat the price I've tried all the other foam companies might as well give this a shot too.
One comment if trays aren't finalized, the slightly more rigid bottom layer on sabol and battlefoam trays makes a much more rigid tray that I've found are less prone to accidentally flopping models out when moving trays.

namadio - our foam is actually slightly bigger than gw foam, i currently use a gw case to travel to tournaments so when i designed the foam i wanted foam that would actually fit snug in a gw case. also 170 positive and 5 negative seeming we had never shipped a thing in our life when we started selling on ebay i think we have done pretty well.
Manchu- dually noted about foam rigidity i will look into this.

Usually the carrier (post office, ups, FedEx etc) will clear it through customs and send you a card with details and you pay the carrier before the goods are released to you. Couple of days delay maybe? If it's the post office you just take the card and payment to the depot holding the goods.

Here are those photos from the last update Automatically Appended Next Post: there is definatly more work to be done... the box will be widened another .25 of an inch to make some room for fingers and to make sure the foam is not jammed in there. other than that i am happy with the design look of the box i am very interested to get it in my hands and see if it is sturdy enough for our needs.

That pic is a little concerning, it definitely needs to be a bit wider!

Well I did not actually ask for photos . But, if you mean after you get a wider prototype, that would be good to show, since this one looks too tight (as you pointed out, of course!).

I totally miss read that
This is still up for debate. the reason it looks jammed in there is because that particular piece of foam was miss cut. something i am going to cause a fuss with the manufacturer about.
A few of the pledges who have seen the box agree that they would not widen the box. it may still happen but we will see.
I will not have another sample until probably after the kickstarter is finished do to the Chinese new year.

The APC by portable warfare store 70 regular infantry and is 15 bucks USD, Tell me why instead i should back your product?

By their count their foam will store 160 basic infantry for $30.00 USD. So for the same price as two foams from Portable Warfare your getting and extra 20 figs of Storage. Not a huge difference but it is still more storage

Right, 20 models. but this is my point. if it is only 20 models, why not spend an extra 15 and get a full 70 extra? The other thing is how thick is the box itself. The APC is durable, and the one I purchased as a test has held up well. I'm wondering if the quality of the box will be equal too or better?

Post by: rigeld2
RTPs foam is ~19 cents a figure.
Portable Warfare's is ~21 cents a figure.
Size of the boxes is different. I can't speak to durability, although the sample RTP showed looked durable.
I haven't backed because I don't need/want infantry foam - too many MCs. Now that the tank foam is unlocked though I'll take another look.

I'd like to know what went wrong with your KR?
I've had mine for 4 years now, and it has never failed me. I've dropped it from a height, the case has stayed intact, nothing inside was broken. And now my son likes to push and kick it around, and I've got models inside, nothing's broken.
Their customer service has been fantastic, too.
I should append that I've got one of the small aluminium cases.

How does one apply the bike foam to the total?
73251
Post by: Overlord Thraka
This looks interesting... Considering backing at the $35 level. How well does it work for model protruding off the bases? Or Termie Sized models?
2277
Post by: drazz
For termies, I think the bike sized foam should work.
You will pick the foam you want for each box (or total of each type of foam) with the pledge managers. Infantry foam is 1', bike foam is 2", tank foam is 3", box holds 4"; so 4 infantry foam, or 1 tank and 1 infantry or two bike, or two bike and 2 infantry.
4727
Post by: Makaleth
I think termies might not actually fit in this. The width is 1.25 per slot... and they would need 1.5 at least. I was hoping for something similar.
Still getting 10 at the moment, they are too good a price and the tank foam is great for storage options.

Not too mention you have options for bigger sized models in this case compare to APC which due to its height kind of leaves stuck with infantry or maybe cav/bikes on their side maybe?
Also 9 hours to go if you want in on this.

These boxes will ship if i have to pay every last penny of the amount of money lost out of my own pocket. but this project has already cost me around $3000 out of my own pocket and i havent even gotten the boxes in my hand yet. I am walking outside to get yall pictures of the foam." - May 6 " I just DONT have any specific answers for y'all... I am thinking I'll have the cash in the next 30 days... I did nearly back this as storage is always an issue, glad I didn't now. Its not so fare gone that its unsalvagable (its no Ice Age Mammals) but the whole thing with people paying extra but still not getting their boxes is certainly dodgy. If he had fulfilled their orders then it would at least have generated good will (and some more people might have thrown good money at him for postage)
This doesnt strike me as a scam, just a naive fool who didnt do his research and now all the KS money is gone, gone, gone.

So given time Robert (who though having long quiet patches, does eventually communicate with backers) will come up with the good. While waiting though I have missed out on getting boxes earlier and probably cheaper.

Yes, they were a good deal, but he mismanaged the production. He ran away with the money and stopped responding to backers. On social media he was seen going on vacations and buying computers. Some backers started legal action and contacting channels in Texas. After that, he suddenly reappeared and started shipping. Coincidentally, the most active complainers got their boxes and the silent majority were left in the cold.
I have since moved on.

The FB group has been dead for a looong time and he's talked about a partner multiple times to quiet angst but it never materialized. He came into some money when his father passed and had told everyone that we would get what we were owed but he shipped to like 3 or 4 people (that we're aware of) and then dropped off of the face of the earth again.

We will be resuming shipping remaining boxes by Tuesday, January 26th, 2016.
We will be starting the shipping by the lower amount tiers and upwards beginning with addresses in the United States, so that we can get as many boxes out in the quickest amount of time.
We appreciate your backing of this project and would like to extend our apologies for the delay of receiving our product.
If you have any questions, please post them to the Kick starter page and we will promptly respond to your questions.

I didn't know of this kickstarter until now, but it mostly seemed decent for the price.
A 40 model tray costs $45 for 5 from Battlefoam, so if someone says they'll sell you 4 trays and a box to put them in for $30 that's not a bad deal.

Please update your mailing address.
We ask for your patience on this our process and thank you for your support. Once we ship your order we have fulfilled our obligation to the Kickstarter project.
If we receive a returned order we will contact you through Kickstarter and hold the box for 90 days. You have the option to pay for shipping within the 90 day period. The 90 days starts when we receive the order back from the USPS. After the end of the 90 days, we will not hold the box/boxes.
We will be finishing all US domestic shipping before international shipping.

A 40 model tray costs $45 for 5 from Battlefoam, so if someone says they'll sell you 4 trays and a box to put them in for $30 that's not a bad deal.
That's the problem, though - someone without experience or very well known, promising something that seems to be too good of a deal to sustain... those are the projects that always give me goosebumps / make me nervous. Obviously, hindsight is 20/20 here... but a lot of times the best deals on Kickstarters are also the riskiest (unless through an established company, such as CMON, if you like their stuff).
It's good that they say they'll resume shipping, but the "New Management" (in all caps!) stuff seems pretty fake... here's hoping you guys get something for all the trouble =/

Yea it was a bad deal. Having to deal with the delays and possibly being ripped of of your money, pretty bad deal IMO. Maybe if the guy would have charged more he could have fulfilled the orders.

I've read that the number one thing kickstarter producers underestimate is how hard it will be for them to deal with Chinese manufacturers. When I was following the updates for this project it was very obvious to me that Mims had no experience with China, or with manufacturing at all, and that was such a clear red flag that at least I reduced my pledge to the smallest box on offer, and only one of them. Obviously, I wish I had just cancelled altogether, but at least I'm not out as much as some people are.

UPDATE FROM NEW MANAGEMENT:
We will be resuming shipping remaining boxes by Tuesday, January 26th, 2016.
We will be starting the shipping by the lower amount tiers and upwards beginning with addresses in the United States, so that we can get as many boxes out in the quickest amount of time.
We appreciate your backing of this project and would like to extend our apologies for the delay of receiving our product.
If you have any questions, please post them to the Kick starter page and we will promptly respond to your questions.
That was followed, for me at least, by the message:
Please update your mailing address.
We ask for your patience on this our process and thank you for your support. Once we ship your order we have fulfilled our obligation to the Kickstarter project.
If we receive a returned order we will contact you through Kickstarter and hold the box for 90 days. You have the option to pay for shipping within the 90 day period. The 90 days starts when we receive the order back from the USPS. After the end of the 90 days, we will not hold the box/boxes.
We will be finishing all US domestic shipping before international shipping.

I suspect they may have gotten a message from KS in response to the project being reported after Robert announced he was washing his hands of it. I guess we'll see if any boxes actually show up.

In the interest of fairness, I'll say that my box has shown up, though Mims still had nothing to do with it. A guy called Eric Christiansen has been fulfilling the orders and, as far as I know, everybody is getting their stuff.

Yeah, my box showed up a couple weeks ago as well. Rather nice actually. It's a shame Mims fouled it up so miserably as I would definitely have bought more of them.

This makes me hopeful that I will actually get my boxes.
