We've got loads going on at Wayland this year. We have the largest stand at the show and have filled it with all sorts of great hobby activity and promotions. We have massive ranges for X-Wing, Star Trek Attack Wing, Warhammer 40,000, Flames of War and Warhammer all with great discounts. We are also showcasing a number of other ranges as part of our strategy to bring harder to find products to the public. There's too much to really cover in one email so I'd like to start off by talking about introductory activity at Wayland this year.
We are representing Privateer Press this year and have swarms of Pressgangers running demo games of Hordes and Warmachine for the crowds. We have a terrific promotion on the day where you buy any three blisters and get the cheapest for free. We have great introductory offers too with a free blister of your choice with any Battlegroup purchased and two free blisters with the Two Player starter game. Its a fantastic offer to get you started in Hordes and Warmachine.
We have the gang at Knight Models demoing their Batman Miniatures game. You can grab your own piece of Gotham with a show-stopping introductory offer of 25% off the whole range!
Corvus Belli are with us showcasing and demonstrating the Infinity game using some stunning terrain provided by Bandua. Not only that, in addition to our usual great prices on Infinity, we have further discounts on the starter sets as well as free starter rulebooks. There has never been a better time to get into Infinity!
Exciting news for everyone going to the Salute wargames show this year – everyone who places an order to be picked up at the show will also receive a free Boromite model.
And that’s not all! You will also be entered into the draw to win a complete set of Boromites – one of every model we have cast so far – to be awarded at the show!
The Boromites are the first army to be cast up for the forthcoming sci-fi game from Rick Priestley – Beyond the Gates of Antares – so this is your chance to get hold of them long before their official release. Check out Rick’s article about Boromite Gang Fighters for more information about these burly pan-humans.
It’s easy to arrange to pick up your order at Salute – just select the Pick Up at Salute option during checkout.
Right, Salute is around the corner, so the time has come for the panic to set in and for me to run around like the proverbial headless chicken while Jenn and Sal calmly get on with things pausing occasionally to roll their eyes at me or judge me with a glance that clearly implies 'Men!'.
This year Sal will be back in attendance at the show, and leading the HF stand, as well as some of our regular helpers and a couple of new faces. Kev will be travelling the US (more details on that next week) so he will miss Salute and he is 'very' sad about it ...
I'll be splitting my time between the HF stand and the Artemis Black's stand (more on that next week too) where you can also find Jenn so, after buying your HF goodie of course, feel free to stop by and say 'allo.
Ok, on with the info!
Where to Find Us
Yet another top notch professional Photoshop job there *strut*
Ok, if you don't know where we are then I can only assume this is your first Salute as we're always in the same place!
It's nice and simple, walk through the main entrance, turn left and da daa! If you get distracted and wander off down an aisle then we're in the top corner of aisle A, we have some nice big signs so it shouldn't be too difficult
Pre-Order Code!
As always Salute is a crazy show, incredibly busy (6k people +), and lots of things to catch your eye or distract you into turning down an aisle etc. This inevitably leads to some customers turning up at 2pm and being disappointed when we've run out of something.
This year we also have the issue of Resin Masters. We will 'not' have a huge stock of these at the show and pretty much the only way to guarantee picking one up at Salute is to pre-order it.
As a lil thank you for making our life a little easier on such a busy day the code will allow you to pick a nice freebie. On top of that freebie orders in multiples of £50 (So £50, £100, £150 etc) will get increasing numbers of extra lil freebies included in their pre-packed order. We 'really' like it when we save large amounts of time
What New Stuff Will We Have?
Well this is a bit of a difficult one. A 'lot' of moulds have gone off to the caster as Kev will be gone for the entire month of April so we've backed up some releases. This means that we're not sure what will make it back to use in time for the big day. Follow our Facebook Page for updates on that.
If you've already been following you'll know some as they've shown up as resin master already - Lord Ulthrak, Major Stephanie, Captain Isseki, The Dread Pirate K'lok, Powered Armour Kieran.
We've also sent off the first 3 Power Armour Sci-Fi Troopers, if these come back they will 'only' be available on the day as we won't be launching them via the site until Kev has finished the last 2 of the metal squad.
And last, but certainly not least, we have a few more Tre Manor sculpts to add to our Northern-themed fantasy collection.
Newsletters as normal until we go so we'll keep everyone updated as soon as we know things
For those attending the #Salute2014 wargames show, I have added a shipping option for you to order and then collect at the show on April 12th and thus avoid paying shipping. If you don't collect it on the day, you will have to pay shipping to have it sent to you.
FYI: When you choose Paypal Express on the store, it automatically chooses standard shipping and you don’t get to choose other options! To choose other shipping options, but still use Paypal, just keep clicking CONTINUE on the cart until you get regular Paypal offered. (Just don't click on the Paypal Express logo.)
Its that time of year again and Alternative Armies is in the grip of convention season fever! We will be attending Salute 2014 at Excel in London on Saturday the 12th of April 2014. Alternative Armies trade stand is TF07 and our theme this year is 'The Ion Age - 15mm Science Fiction'. Our sister websites 15mm.co.uk and The Ion Age also have promotions running and are on our trade stand.
The Ion Age theme means that we will not be bringing any of our other ranges this year, that means no Flintloque and Slaughterloo or High Fantasy from Alternative Armies. No 15mm Fantasy or 15mm Historicals or Science Fiction (but the latest HOF 15mm Science Fiction will be there) from 15mm.co.uk. The products at stand TF07 on the day will be entirely 15mm Ion Age range (miniatures, resin, terrain and books).
Code is: salute01
To that end we are offering a code to get 15% off any and all online orders with us valid until Monday 14th April 2014. This offer is open to all customers across the world. If you are not attending then use it! If you are attending then use it! As before we have the option to 'collect at salute' if you are attending which will save you the postage charge too. If you choose to collect in person then, regardless if its from Alternative Armies or 15mm.co.uk or The Ion Age your package will be waiting for you with your name on it at Stand TF07, ask for it by name.
Use the code 'salute01' as it appears here during the checkout process (white background page) in the VOUCHER box (top of the screen) and your product total will automatically reduce 15% on screen. You select postage option first before checkout (choose Collect at Salute if you are coming on the day). As an extra bit of fun EVERY order placed with Alternative Armies during this offer period will automatically get a brand new and free 56131 Ludwig Von Barkhoven miniature (worth 2.00GBP) included in the package. See that miniature HERE.
Attending or Not Attending use The Code!
Go along to our other websites where they are offering 15% off all orders and collection on the day too.
A promotional miniature will be offered to any customer placing a pre-order of 50€ or more on our web-store (please then enter the code "salute2014"in the commentary box, we reimburse you the shipping cost if necessary).
On the day, it will also be offered for purchases of £50 or more while stock lasts.
It will not be possible to buy it separately, there is a limited stock and once it's gone, it's gone.
The day of the Salute we propose you for the first time two new models (not available for pre-order)
- A tracked bike : the Ironhorse
- A Terror Bird cavalry
Salute is fast approaching! As always we will be there with our main ranges and latest models available ahead of release! Not long to go before Salute 2014. The new WWI, ACW and AWI – together with the Hordes & Heroes historical and fantasy ranges and Hexon Terrain system – are very popular, and despite our best efforts, will always run out of stock of some items very quickly on the day. Our ranges are so extensive, it is impossible for us to carry all our products, or large quantities of any of our products due to space restrictions. So please, if you're going to Salute and you know what's on your Kallistra shopping list, place your order in advance, we will bring your order along so you can collect it at your convenience at some point during this very busy day. You can use the webshop, email or telephone your orders in advance.
Ordering deadline is Monday, 7th of April. If you place a Salute order after this time, we cannot guarantee having your order ready for you to collect.
Take a look at the website for full details of all our new releases and our full product ranges
This is our second year of Salute as traders rather than visitors and we once again are bringing you the 4Ground Range Kit Starter Deals to say thank you for the last year and to enable you to expand or start your 4Ground Collection for a particular range, or to start a new range collection.
Buy £200 worth of any 4Ground products from our 4Ground stand at Salute and you will instantly get 25% off.
Buy £125 worth of any 4Ground products you get 15% off.
Buy £50 worth of any 4Ground products you get 10% off.
We have been receiving many requests about how to pre-order for Salute, so we are providing pre-order codes for our Website and we also have a Salute Pic Up shipping method for you to select.
To pre-order from our website for collection by you at Salute, place your order from across all our own 4Ground product ranges, then when you reach the checkout enter the following code;
If you have bought more than £200, SLW25
If you have bought more than £125, SLW15
If you have bought more than £50, SLW10
Don’t worry if you put the wrong code in we will sort it this end if there is a mistake with the code. The most important thing is we need to know it is a Salute pick up.
Then select shipping method as Salute Pick Up. Your order will then be packed and ready for you on the day. Any additional products you decide to buy on the day including our May release products that are on sale will be at the discount level you have already reached and if you reach the next bracket we will credit this against your purchases on the day.
Please note, we are not able to provide Salute discounts to any sets apart from the 15mm North West European Farm Complex and the 15mm Hotel Complex.
It's not long now until Salute, so to tempt you over to our stand (TE12, shared with Pendraken!), we'll have the following offers available on the day:
MDF Bases – At only £1.00 GBP per pack! (Custom sizes available as well with advance notice.)
I-94 Decals – £2.50 GBP each or Buy 4, Get 1 Free!
Vallejo paints – 5 for £9.00 GBP on all of the Model and Game Color ranges!
We'll also have the full range of Crossover Miniatures, plus more new MDF buildings from Wargame-Model-Mods.
Finally, we'll also be giving out sweets and toys to the kids all day, so pop by with the younger ones to collect yours!
If there's anything in particular you'd like setting aside for collection, please make sure to let us know before Saturday 5th if possible.
Our stand is under the name 'Dubreq Ltd' (TA20) but we trade as 'Dubreq Games' for our games and miniatures related products. As a company we are new to the games and modelling world but, as the owner, I am not.
I've been involved in miniature painting and modelling since about 2007 and most people know me as 'rocketandroll' on CMON and various forums.
I won the UK Golden Demon slayer sword in 2009 with a model called 'The Clockmaker' which featured a LOT of custom etched-brass components I designed and had made.
This was the starting point for the idea to commercialise this as it seemed that no one was making commercial photo-etched metal parts for miniatures, other than basing/scenery related materials.
Etch-Master is our completely new range of photo-etch detailing sheets specifically for the fantasy and sci-fi miniatures world. The first two sheets will be a 'Fantasy details' sheet and a 'Sci-fi and modern' details sheet, each featuring over a hundred individual etched metal components to detail several models.
Salute 2014 will be the first time these sheets will be going on sale to the public. We'll have a load of examples of the assembled parts and models using them there for people to see how they work and give them some inspiration on how they can enhance that special model.
Shortly after Salute we'll be launching a crowd-funding campaign on IndieGoGo to get another three or four further sheets into production.
In just under a fortnight, we'll be hopping in the van to head down to the extravaganza which is Salute!
If there's anything at all which you'd like in particular, please make sure to let us know before Saturday, 5th April, to give us a chance to get it cast up and packed into the van!
We will have the usual selection of army packs, along with a large selection of WWII vehicles, all of the flags, and much more.
We're hoping to have the first batch of our new WWI codes at the show, so make sure to pop by and check them out!
Because of the size of our range, we can only take a relatively small selection of our models to shows with us: We would need at least 100 feet of wall space for us to fit in most of the models that we currently have in production, and at shows we are usually limited to around a 20ft stand. So, if there is anything in particular that you would like to pick up from us at the show then let us know and we will be very happy to bring it along with us.
Sorry Folks, I can't make it. We've decided to make a little family time together after further hospital visits. However the prognosis is excellent and after this little R&R doctors say all should be well.
Now Force of Arms has been invited to Partizan and we are expecting to attend,
I would like to wish everyone involved with Salute 14 great fun (and a profitable :-D)day and thank the organisers for their understanding. I'd also like to thank everyone for the good wishes received over the last 14 months.
Force of Arms has new products (Vietnam Sappers and heavy weapon sets) as well as some really good vehicle re- and new releases and more about those very soon. A post on TMP will announce a new catalogue available.
We will be attending Salute on the 12th of April (stand TK23).
We will be bringing our 1:144 WWI aircraft and the 1:1200 Triton ship range of Napoleonic, ACW, transitional steam, and ironclads. Please pre-order by 8th of April to avoid disappointment, as we can only bring so much.
Hopefully, we will also be bringing a new 1:144 WWI aircraft. Watch this space!
We will also be selling Big Battalion pre-painted units, mostly 15mm Napoleonic, and taking painting orders for all scales and periods.
It’s that time of year again. The retail madness that happens at the Excel arena each April is upon us.
Warlord Games is proud to be front and centre yet again, you will find us on stand TF05 which just happens to be directly in front of you when you come through the entrance!
We will of course be showing off a whole raft of up and coming releases in our studio section. Our sculptor, Wojtek and painter, Andres will both be on hand to show off their skills.
Rick Priestley will be there talking all things Gates of Antares. We will even have a huge number of digital sculpts to show off as well as a limited amount of squads and command sections available to buy!!
Just some of the things we have on offer this time:
Waterloo starter bundle: Rulebook, British army box and Albion Triumphant 2 (100 days) for £100!
All our Napoleonic infantry boxes are 3 for £50!
Bolt Action starter bundle: Any 1000 point Army box set, any “Armies of” book, any dice for £95!
All Bolt Action sprays just £5 each!!
And don’t forget we offer 10% off all your vehicles when you buy 3 or more together so be sure to visit Mark and Darek on the Tank stall for all your treadhead needs.
See you on the 12th and don’t be late…
So, this is the end of this Artemis Black's website. Never fear though, we will be coming back in a few months with a new website and a new partnership.
Most of you may know that I have another job as manager of Hasslefree Miniatures. My duties there have grown considerably as the business has expanded and it's no longer tenable to run both separately. So after Salute we will be merging the businesses over the coming months so I can manage them from a single location.
This means that it'll be a completely fresh start and most of the items we carry right now won't be making the jump with us. Our loss is your gain and there's our biggest sell off yet at Salute
Everything on the stand will be Buy 4 get the cheapest Free. That's up to a 25% reduction right there. This will be on top of any price marked discounts, which for some ranges is already up to 30% off. If you rummage around there's probably old stock with old prices on too giving an even further reduction.
Quite seriously I would not be unhappy if we came home with a rucksack and some welsh cakes This is the big clearout, Go Nuts!
We have new stock not on this site available at the show, new Red Box Games miniatures, Zombicide boxsets, new Gamezone and new Enigma. There's also a bunch of stuff that never even made it out of storage boxes last Salute. The only real way to know what's on offer is to come and look!
Oh and as always, there'll be free cake for customers
Map and flyer to the right
(Red circle is Hasslefree, Purple is Artemis Black's, feel free to visit both).
We are at stand TF02 - (just inside the entrance to the left) and they will be available on a first come first served basis. We're looking forward to seeing everyone!

You may have seen the photos a few years ago when we planned to release them painted. That never happened. They're not perfect – we had criticism about the Confederate hats and some of the poses. Also, the plastic is not rigid. But they don't look at all bad, and you get 20 for £5.00 GBP
There's two sets – Confederate and Union.
Each set contains what you see in the photo x 2 (unpainted).
Victrix are attending Salute this year, and will be joined by our chum Barry Hilton from Warfare Miniatures, who will have a section of our stand for his wonderful range of miniatures. A great example of English and Scottish people getting along!
At Salute, we will have our brand-new Greek sets.
Greek Unarmored Hoplites & Archers
Greek Peltasts & Slingers
We will also be showing off the prototypes of the 1:100th scale Stuka and Typhoon models. These won't be on sale unfortunately, but will be released in the next few weeks.
We will have a lot of information about our upcoming Roman and Carthaginian sets, so please come along, say hello, and pick up a flyer about the new products. The Romans are in tooling at present.
Victrix Salute 2014 Special Deals
At Salute this year, we will have some great deals on offer running the day of Salute only. New Greek boxed sets £29.95 GBP per box of 56 figures. (These are new products, and so single boxes will not be discounted.)

We are delighted to welcome Barry Hilton onto the Victrix stand at Salute 2014. Warfare Miniatures will have their full range of figures, flag sheets, and publications available to purchase from the Victrix stand.
Please note that any pre-orders should be directed to Warfare Miniatures and not Victrix. We look forward to seeing Barry at Salute being a shining example of Anglo-Scottish entente cordiale.
Salute Special Offer Box:
25-figure Maison du Roi battalion French Field gun and crew, six gabions, two Mounted Generals, two Guard Suisse or Francaises flags with finials - £50.00 GBP
We will be attending the Salute! show at Excel this weekend and, as well as having new items for our own ranges, we will also be bringing some of the latest releases for other ranges we stock.
We have just taken delivery of Tsuba's exquisite new 28mm German Marines.
Although designed for the turbulent period in Germany after the First World War, these marines are suitable for a number of theaters and scenarios around this time, not to mention a range of "what-ifs" and Pulp opportunities. Once more, Paul Hicks has provided sculpting duties, and the results are predictably detailed and characterful!
New Red Star Vietminh Command
We have just added the latest Red Star Miniatures 28mm Dien Bien Phu pack to our store – the Vietminh regulars command. Beautifully detailed, this pack fills a necessary spot in your Vietminh forces, and is available in our store now.
We also have stock of the new 15mm Xan Miniatures Napoleonic Scottish and British figures. These beautiful figures are compatible with other leading manufacturers, and a very cost-effective way to expand your forces (these are just in, so pictures to come).
Highland infantry:
• NB20 - Highlanders center company marching With Kilt. (4 poses)
• NB21 - Highlanders flank company marching With Kilt. (2 poses)
• NB22 - Highlanders flank company marching with trousers. (2 poses)
• NB23 - Highlanders flank company firing/loading with trousers. (4 poses)
• NB24 - Highlanders command (officer, drummer, ensign and piper) half bag
• NB25 - Ensign (sold separately)
• NB26 - Highlanders center company sergeant. (sold separately)
• NB27 - Highlander center company without bonnet. (sold separately)
We welcome pre-orders for the day (in fact, recommend it for many of these items). Please email us at mail@empressminiatures.com for details and to collect on the day.
Urban Construct announce their new D-Day range of anti-tank bunkers. The 28mm resin models cover a series of bunkers that formed part of the Atlantic Wall.
Shown here, type R677 was located in many positions along the coast, including at Omaha Beach where it was used to house a fearsome 88mm PAK43/41 towed anti-tank gun. The first of this type was completed in March 1943, and was designed for enfilade fire with a two-meters-thick wall protecting its embrasure from the sea. It was, in fact, nearly impossible to penetrate the concrete as it offered protection from naval guns up to 200mm. However, some destroyers sailed as close as 800m to the shore to get a direct shot through the embrasure, which is also how some were eventually knocked out by tanks. This type of bunker can also be used to represent actions at the Merville Battery, Pointe du Hoc, and St. Marcouf Battery (Utah).
This series of bunkers will be on display and available at Salute 2014. We will be at stand TF03, near the entrance, and we would be pleased to see you there. Pre-order the bunkers or Tobruks to avoid disappointment at the show. See more details and photos on our website.
We are pleased to announce the launch of our new book, Masters in Miniature, published by Atlantic Publishers.
The book is a combination of six months' photography on our part, years of painting on the part of the many painters, and a frenzied couple of months on Atlantic's part, mostly by Henry Hyde who excelled himself in putting this book to "bed".
The book will be lunched at Salute at the Atlantic stand (TG 04). We will not be selling it there ourselves, but will have it in stock after the show.
We will try and get over to the Atlantic stand to sign copies as much as possible, but judging by former years at Salute, we will be hard-pushed at our stand (TG 06, just up the same aisle). Of course, if you do want it signed and we're not at Atlantic, bring them to our stand where we can scribble on your copy!
There is a forward by Rick Priestley and (would you 'Adam and Eve it'!) a brief biography of us by Henry at the end. All the figures in the book are from Perry Miniatures ranges, and are covered by chapter in chronological order:
• The First Crusade 1096-1099
• Agincourt to Orleans 1415-1429
• The Wars of the Roses 1455-1487 and European Armies 1450-1500
• Samurai Armies 1550-1615 and Choson Korean Army 1592-1598
• The English Civil Wars 1642-1651 and the Border Reivers of the 1580s
• The American War of Independence 1775-1783
• Napoleonic Armies 1809-1814
• Napoleonic Armies 1815
• The First Carlist War 1833-1840
• The American Civil War 1861-1865
• The Mahdist Uprising in the Sudan 1881-1885
• World War II 1939-45
After Salute, we will be stocking copies of the book, if you want them signed let us know.
160pp hard cover with nearly 400 color photos - £29.50 GBP
Mantic Games will be at Salute (Stand TJ08) with plenty of Dreadball and Deadzone stock. We will also have plenty of the new Terrain and Kings of War (see below). We will be supported as ever by our Pathfinders who will be running numerous demo and participation games of Dreadball, Deadzone and over with Troll Trader a massive game celebrating the pre-release of Hellfire & Stone: a narrative campaign for Kings of War, featuring an epic conflict between Dwarfs and Abyssal Dwarfs.
Deadzone Kickstarter Backers - Ruined Scenery
Next month sees the launch of the BATTLEZONES scenery range, and we are having a limited pre-release of the first terrain set - the £100 Urban Quadrant. It is built with Core Worlds, Fortifications and Landing Pad sprues. However, we want to show them a little taste of what else the range has. As a one-off promotion we’re going to be including 1 of each ruin sprue.
We always try and get everything to the KS backers first, but in this case it is the only item we can add to these sets that they don't have. It will only be a few weeks before you have your second shipment so I hope you can forgive us this small indiscretion. However it would not be Mantic if we did not try and make amends - so if anyone is going to Salute then please come by the stand and pick one of each up too. Just bring proof of backing to claim.
Battlezones Terrain
Battlezone: Urban Quadrant - £99.99
This set contains 46 assorted Battlezones terrain sprues and 8 connector sprues, allowing you to construct a huge range of buildings that will provide plenty of cover for a 6’x4’ area (or a 4’x4’ area of dense urban terrain). We will also have a couple of the new Battlezones up for pre-release (on general sale in May)
Battlezones: Sci-fi Defence Lines - £9.99
This set contains two Defence Line Sprues and a connector sprue, allowing you to build a single 29.5” Defence Line or several smaller ones. It also contains a laser cannon and comms antenna. This set is compatible with all others in Mantic’s Battlezones Tile System range.
Battlezones: Landing Pad Kit - £19.99
This set contains four Landing Pad sprues, two Defence Line sprues and a connector sprue, allowing you to build a raised landing pad with laser cannon and comms antenna. It can also be assembled in a variety of other ways, and combined with other sets from Mantic’s Battlezones Tile System range.

The most recent edition of WS&S will go on sale at Salute 2014. This is your chance to pick up issue 72 before anyone else – if you are a subscriber, just give us your name to receive a copy at no extra charge. Additionally, you can purchase other products from Karwansaray Publishers at special Salute-only prices. This includes back issues of WS&S, along with Ancient Warfare and Medieval Warfare magazines. We'll have most of our books on hand as well. You can find us at booth TF01, just inside the main entrance (just look for the huge Karwansaray flag).
Also don't miss the opportunity to join in our participation game, which we will be presenting in cooperation with Simon Miller – it recreates Caesar's invasion of Britain in 55BC. The game is right next door to our booth and will be run by the editor's local gaming club, the Brixham Beserkers.
For those not attending Salute, we'll be sending subscribers their copies right after we get back from Salute, so depending on where you live (Europe or the United Kingdom), you will be getting your magazine within the next few weeks.
In the new issue, we'll be taking a look at the great nomadic warriors from the Eastern steppes – Huns, Mongols and Scythians will all be getting their due!
The theme includes the following articles:
• An introduction to the topic by Chris Peers
• Gaming the Kalka campaign of 1222-1223, or Subotei's ride
• Alexander at the Battle of the Jaxartes – the Macedonians take on those pesky Scythians in this scenario by Pat Lowinger
• Attila and his brother Bleda take a tour of Georgia in 436 AD and give the struggling Romans even more headaches
• Modeling and painting tutorials: a Mongolian yurt and the cover diorama
• Free Download: A campaign game that pits the Crusaders, Mongols and other Christian and Muslim kingdoms against each other for control of Jerusalem (Get the PDF)
For those not interested in the nomadic hordes, there are also plenty of non-theme articles, including the following:
• Pike and… sheep? Every good army needs to stay well-fed
• The Battle of the Bannockburn: an extensive guide with scenarios, army lists and maps. Everything you need to recreate this important battle
• Like playing with little ships? Why not help the Dutch hero Piet Heyn take on the Spanish treasure fleet.
• An armor painting masterclass, using the German E-100 as an example.
• Columns by Rick Priestley, Richard Clarke, and Martin Onderdonck
• Let's play Poor Bloody Infantry (PBI)
• …and much more!
If you aren't a WS&S subscriber, you can find issue 72 in WHSmith stores across the United Kingdom starting in late April. In North America, the magazine is available in select Barnes & Noble and Chapters locations (though 72 won't be on sale there until early June). You can also order directly from us via the Karwansaray webshop.

Is any of this true? (apart from the prices) - I've e-mailed Infinity and Knight Models to see if there was anything new and they said Wayland are not their representatives - they know Wayland are selling at the show but they are being represented by their distributor who should have any previews and new releases etc.
This is a bit weird as people will be disappointed on the day by false claims, it's not really what I'd expect from Wayland as a professional company. I'm guessing they are representing Privateer Press as they don't have a stand this year but there is no one coming over from Corvus Belli or Knight models - so it can only be a demo table operated by Wayland - claiming to be Spanish!

There has never been a better time to get into Infinity![/quote
It was on the Warlords blog and facebook page so I can only presume it's true ? Wayland Games owner rich1231 often posts on Dakka, so maybe PM him?
The last date for buying tickets in advance for the UK will be Thursday 27th March. That gives the Post Office a fortnight to get it to you.
Salute doors open at 10:00 on Saturday 12th April 2014.
Tickets cost £10 each but if you buy 10 then we will add an 11th ticket free.
Ticket are £11 on the door.
Up to two children up to the age of 16 can enter free with a paying adult; further children will be charged at £5 each. Unaccompanied under-16s will have to pay for their entry at full price. For safety, all under-14s must be accompanied by an adult. We do understand that paying for your kids' entry can cramp the amount of money you have available to spend with our traders, so hopefully this will help in a small way.

¡hola SoulDrinker, not sure who you've been speaking with (maybe your contacts are a little out of date) but Knight Models, Privateer Press, and Corvus Belli are indeed with us for Salute. You should have saved yourself several phone calls and emails and just asked us we even promise not to put on a Manuel style faux-Spanish accent!
Although we originally hoped to have some of our friends from Corvus Belli to be with us on the day, travel commitments have meant that the studio guys couldn't be with us this year, so they and their buddies at Bandua have sent in their place some of their gorgeous studio painted minis to showcase as well as some of their fantastic terrain to play on. We also have the game designers sending us some cool goodies to give away on the day. You won't be disappointed!
Knight Models (who we distribute for) are sending one of their main guys to spend the day with us chatting to customers about the coolness that is Batman the Miniatures game as well as discussing all the other fantastic miniatures they offer. We have a range of demos of the game using their stunning miniatures and terrain too, so quite an experience!
Privateer are being represented by Wayland again this year (as we successfully did last year too) with a whole bunch of demos and brilliant offers to get players (new and old) really excited about Hordes and Warmachine.
But you are right we aren't just doing what we claimed... We're doing more!
We also have the guys at Esdevium Games with us running some board game demos and showcasing some great card games and party games too - to really get you buzzing.
We hope to have some surprises on the day from the guys at Spartan Games along with demos of the amazing Firestorm Armada as well as some great offers on getting started (Zenian League all the way of course!)
Finally our friends from Battlefront will be showing off the brilliant new Dust Tactics game at the show and we'll be keen to show off the whole range available at show stopping value (the new starter sets are terrific).
So no false claims (we're far too professional for that) - just lots of exciting hobby activity and a great opportunity to meet up with like-minded gamers. If you're an Infinity, Batman, Spartan, Warmachine, Hordes or boardgames fan, make Wayland's stand the place to meet up and chat - you can't miss us, we're the biggest (and we hope friendliest) stand at the show, just over from our old friends at SMG.

In-between talking about threats to the guy that ran Maelstrom and then jumping to the conclusion that Wayland are making 'false claims', have to wonder whether you are trying to organise some kind of riot at Salute this year Soul Drinker?

SALUTE 2014 OFFICIAL AND FREE SHOW MINIATURE
Commander Colin Douglas Maud, DSO, DSC, principal Beach Master of Juno Beach as portrayed by Kenneth More in the classic war movie 'The Longest Day'
Sculpted by Michael Perry
Painted by Kevin Dallimore
This month's Miniature Wargames has more details, incl.
Sculpting Commander Maud
Michael Perry explains how he approached the task of sculpting this year’s exclusive and highly distinctive miniature for the show, a figure paying tribute to a famous film as much as the man (and his dog!) himself.
Painting Commander Maud
Kevin Dallimore describes with step-by-step photos how he went about painting Commander Colin Douglas Maud, DSO, DSC, principal Beach Master of Juno Beach as
portrayed by Kenneth More.

No riots this year hopefully, unless it's the usual Friday night at excel ! - The first one was a bit of a joke that went south The second one was more out of surprise as I've been in touch with both Knight and Corvus Belli about running events and demos at various shows and they said they weren't coming to Salute, so to see Wayland representing them was a bit odd, especially when most of the other main shows have Simple Miniatures running the demos etc (like they are this year at Salute as well).
I may have to be a bit more careful with my wording in future
Edit - I note that from the reply Corvus Belli are in fact NOT there so that sort of explains the question.

We've asked Knight Models for some extra Gotham riot shields when they come over - just in case!
Edit - I note that from the reply Corvus Belli are in fact NOT there so that sort of explains the question.
But not the tone or the accusation. Simply not what I'd expect from a professional who has worked in and out of models & miniatures retail for 15 years and counting.
But I'm happy to let the matter rest here - we're all friends surely.
In fact to show there's no hard feelings, drop me your contact details on PM and I'll confirm your invitation to our meet and greet on the Friday night. Nothing better than a couple of beers to put aside forum silliness and get on with important stuff like playing games (or in my case losing them!)

We are now accepting pre-orders for collection at the show. Please email your order along with your name and address to salute@studiominiatures.com
"Buy £200 worth of any 4Ground products from our 4Ground stand at Salute and you will instantly get 25% off.
Buy £125 worth of any 4Ground products you get 15% off.
Buy £50 worth of any 4Ground products you get 10% off."
I just worked out a £260 order for my empire of the dead project which should come in at £195
Now to see what else I need (airbrush paints, resin bases, ww2 rules for winter war, more vallejo, New dredd figures, more empire of the dead figures, dredd scenery from antenociti, some osprey, more dullcote, maybe another Kr case) ooohh it's going to be a pricey year.
Got my credit card doing circuit training and 100 push-ups a day, hopefully it will be fit and ready to go when the show day arrives
Although, actually most excited about the display and gaming tables, which will no doubt be fantasic - definitely worth the trip by themselves and the price of admission even if you don't plan on buying anything there.
To pre-order from our website for collection by you at Salute, place your order from across all our own 4Ground product ranges, then when you reach the checkout enter the following code;

Actually that's a point, as someone who's not been before to anything even remotely like this, I'm guessing it'll be very much a cash only event? Used to using plastic for everything can't remember the last time I used ye olde sterling.
As I think someone else said, we (Anvil Industry) will be there with a good stock of our entire bits range on display, as well as the entire new AFTERLIFE miniatures range and a display table.
We are actually right next to Zinge, on the right hand wall toward the back as you come in the door.

A lot of traders, ourselves included, have secure chip and pin card machines linked to mobile phones, so No cash = No problem!
We are really looking forward to the show, and will have quite a few new bits and pieces to show off.
We will be offering buy ten get one free miniature on all our 42mm ranges.
Our new 28mm Viking range will be released at Salute and show cased for the first time anywhere. ... Plus lots of new releases for Napoleonic, ACW and lots more….
As we gear up for Salute 2014, we thought we would let you see our new survivors set for our 28mm zombie range Z-CLIPZ, Barca & the Boys.
This set of four miniatures is cast in white metal, and is supplied unpainted with 30mm round bases. RRP £15.99

Spoiler:
Make an order before 6th of April sending us an email and pick up your package with 20% discount at Salute 2014
Send us your order via email to shop[a]microartstudio.com"
I'd have jumped on this if I didn't already spend just under £100 with them on the same offer last year
and slightly cheating, but Ironclad Miniatures are running a "we won't be at Salute" discount (I emailed them to ask if they were there and got pointed to the offer)
25% off until midnight 7/4/14 (or 4/7/14 if you are looking at special offers from the US). I think my Nemo crew for Eotd will be getting their Nautilus
I think at this point it bears commenting on the sheer number of manufacturers and traders that are going to be present at this event - it's absolutely mental.

I'll definitely be thgere, but as over 2000 preshow tickets have already been sold, I dont plan on getting there till at least 11 due to the queue size!
Yup, I'll be there, always a great show and I spend too much on those extra bits I see on the day, even when I have a plan to focus on specific things I need, and some lovely games to froth over.
jim30 wrote: I'll definitely be thgere, but as over 2000 preshow tickets have already been sold, I dont plan on getting there till at least 11 due to the queue size!
Should be an amazing day!
I'm wondering the same actually.. was thinking of rising at an un-holy hour to drive to London early, but thinking now I might be better off setting off a little later and arriving late morning/mid-day.
What was the crowd like last year?
Definitely looking forward to it though, and already have a shopping list building up!
Map and flyer to the right (Red circle is Hasslefree, Purple is Artemis Black's, feel free to visit both).
For myself, I've pre-purchased two Basius basing pads from Zinge (with a 20% discount ) and I'll be picking up Heresy's Doctor Payne (not Dr Who - The War Doctor). Asides from that, I have no other plans than to visit the Prodos stand and gaze lovingly at the AvP models they'll hopefully have...
We are at stand TF02 - (just inside the entrance to the left) and they will be available on a first come first served basis. We're looking forward to seeing everyone!

To find out more and to pick up a free CIA SOG miniature come and visit us on stand TJ22.
The chap from Prodos in the other thread said that there will be AvP on display in some form.. so, hopefully!
I'll be getting one of the Battlegroup books hopefully, have a look at some of the Perry 28mm fuedal Japan stuff (if they have any there) and the new Gripping Beast Crusades-era SAGA game and that new Gladiator game they're releasing.
Maybe some terrain stuff for Dystopian Wars, and will have a look at Dropzone Commander. Plus, whatever else takes my fancy!
(Yeah, that was a stretch, I really needed to make a business name with King in the title just so 11 years later I could make a better pun)
The purple bit is me! That's the Artemis Black's stand at TA07. This year is the last year that we'll be running as an independent company. HF and I have been talking about it for a year and in the coming months HF and AB will finally merge into one giant amorphous blob of a company.
What does this mean for you guys? Well, not much really, it's pretty much all behind the scenes paperwork. In fact, everything should be even smoother than it already is as we plan on moving to a larger space so I don't have to balance things on my head while writing newsletters or run an assault course of boxes to reach the stapler. Website changes and the like will be rolled out through coming months and we'll keep you informed via our FB page, newsletters and other sources.
For this Salute though it means we're unloading as much as we can on the day from the AB stock. A lot of it is outdated now as companies have changed packaging or card inserts etc. while I've been busy with Hasslefree, so off it goes nice and cheap to make space for the upcoming merge/expansion and to make sure I have less work changing blisters or getting new cards from companies and so on.
We'll have with us... Zombicide, Gamezone, Malifaux/Wyrd, Red Box Games, Warmachine/Hordes/Iron Kingdoms, Dark Age, Mad Puppet, Degra, Enigma, Avatars of War, Dragonblood, Dragonrune, Magnificent Egos, Warcrow, Ebob, MERCS, Maidenhead, Shadowforge Amera Scenery and probably a bunch more I've forgotten, all at a 'Please take this away' sale price
There's even a bunch of new stock we got in for the merger but Salute rolled around too quickly so that'll be there too, just to be nice to you guys
I want a few bits from Zinge and Anvil, possibly some resins from McVey and then just whatever looks interesting - a few odd bits from here and there but nothing else I'm set on.
Want to see if I can come away with less stuff that will sit around untouched for a year than I did last time ...unlikely....
Also...try and get round to checking out the painting comp before it's all been packed away
Not a bad deal. 20 plastic ACW figures, unpainted, in a cheap plastic bag for £5.00 GBP.

Please note that any pre-orders should be directed to Warfare Miniatures and not Victrix. We look forward to seeing Barry at Salute being a shining example of Anglo-Scottish entente cordiale.
Salute Special Offer Box:

(4 poses)

I hate the Zinge/Anvil stand, you go there to innocently get a pack of shotguns and come away with all manner of wires, guns, heads, arms, shell cases you never knew you needed and must have for projects you only came up with there and then.* Should be good fun.

* - True historical account.
That's the entire Salute experience for me in a nutshell. I still have unpainted models purchased when Salute was held in Kensington and Chelsea Town Hall !!
Mantic dropped me a line earlier with their update for Salute:

The theme includes the following articles: • An introduction to the topic by Chris Peers • Gaming the Kalka campaign of 1222-1223, or Subotei's ride • Alexander at the Battle of the Jaxartes – the Macedonians take on those pesky Scythians in this scenario by Pat Lowinger • Attila and his brother Bleda take a tour of Georgia in 436 AD and give the struggling Romans even more headaches • Modeling and painting tutorials: a Mongolian yurt and the cover diorama • Free Download: A campaign game that pits the Crusaders, Mongols and other Christian and Muslim kingdoms against each other for control of Jerusalem (Get the PDF)
For those not interested in the nomadic hordes, there are also plenty of non-theme articles, including the following: • Pike and… sheep? Every good army needs to stay well-fed • The Battle of the Bannockburn: an extensive guide with scenarios, army lists and maps. Everything you need to recreate this important battle • Like playing with little ships? Why not help the Dutch hero Piet Heyn take on the Spanish treasure fleet. • An armor painting masterclass, using the German E-100 as an example. • Columns by Rick Priestley, Richard Clarke, and Martin Onderdonck • Let's play Poor Bloody Infantry (PBI) • …and much more!

Well my list is trying to get focussed around stuff I need for projects, and the removal of the Bring and Buy should help reduce spur of the moment purchases, but my list so far is:
to collect my Winter War figures from Baker Company, from their Kickstarter
look at Bolt Action and Chain of Command to try and decide on a ruleset for my Winter War stuff
Collect aboout £250 worth of 4 Ground buildings that I ordered for Empire of the Dead
Look at Prodos' AvP stuff and work out how many Fenris Bases of what sizes I will need, then go and buy them
Get some of Antenociti's Sci-Fi Terrain before it goes OOP and buy some Dullcote while I'm there
Get some Vallejo Air Paints to play around with when I get my airbrush set up
Get another Case from KR
Go to Simple Miniatures to get some terraclips (d'oh - bought some terrain off Ebay without thinking about the clips)
Pick up some odd models from West Wind and Mongoose to fill some Empire of the Dead and Judge Dredd gaps
See if Warmill & Micro Art Studios have more sci-fi terrain to tempt me with
Pick up various Vallejo/ Foundry/ Andrea paints and interesting modelling tools that jump out at me
If I have pennies left (which looks doubtful) I'll swing by the Ainsty stand to look at getting their sewer set.
Then I have to smuggle it in without the Mrs noticing *gulps*
The Sedition Wars preview miniatures will be available in limited numbers on the online store at the same prices after Salute. Mike mentioned staggering releases so they don't all land at once. (The other limited editions are discounted for Salute attendees only - no online discount)
The Gnosis unit is £80 for Trooper A, B and C + Gnosis Heavy and Killian Brace (£92 Separate selling price)
lol - Yeah I can see the Kicstarter one being very useful these days
Presently I don't have to deal with any of that, just face the accusatory stares from the blank eyes of hordes of untouched figures as I bring in their new companions
I cant make it so I am getting a friend to pick me up enough Black Hat Ronin to make a small bandit buntai and a few foundry paints along with a small Japanese building from Oshiro model terrain.
As our shop is only a short journey from Excel, we'll be staying open until 9pm to allow people to come see us afterwards.
We've been clearing out the Basement, so have four tables full of old stock at bargain prices including several hundred GW metal blisters ranging from around £4-£10 each. These will only be available in store.
Malik_Raynor wrote: See you guys in the morning! Although I doubt I'll actually see you there since I have no clue what you look like :p. Have fun at Salute 2014!
Haha yes, you too! Will be sure to post some pics when I come back.
Are we using this thread for the show report I assume?
Well I'm here and there's loads on as you would expect. I was late and here was still a queue but I used my prepaid ticket buff to jump the queue for the win!
There a seems to be a scrum on every stand, I've yet to lay my hands on a mini (except the excellent free show one).
It seems dark in here or more likely I'm just getting old.
Ah well time to hold my breath and dive into the FW stand!
Near the Forgeworld stand is a table selling second hand miniatures, complete necromunda gangs for fair prices. I got a mordheim gang for £20.
I've done a few hours and taken lots of photos but found it a lot to cope with and have spent rather a lot. As well as the Mordheim gang I bought a lot of Batman, had some cheap D&D books, resin bases and little things. My one surprise find was the limited Black Templar Emperors Champion, still packaged for £14. I love the pose and seeing as I missed out many years ago, jumped for it.
I got myself a load of Warzone stuff (The AvP stuff was really nice) and a few odds and ends including a plague ogre thing from (I think) Kromlech that will make a decent lord for my Death Guard with a little bit of work.
The sad thing is that the stuff I bought last year hasnt been completely assembled yet....
Did any one else think that it wasn't as busy this year?
It was an awesome event and was even better with three like minded friends. We were the guys with the AF backpack trying not to buy everything! Hope everyone had fun
Not long back from Salute '14 - although we did stop for dinner on the way home
Got their at 10am and joined the huge q-buster queue. Only in it for about 10 mins all told as it constantly moved - the Stormtroopers, Boba Fett, a Gamorrean Guard and Judge Dredd (2012 movie) kept the crowd amused with photo opportunities (I didn't get any though...)
As we walked in I get my free bag with programme, Salute mini and dice and surprised that they also gave both my kids a bag each!
First impression was how busy the place was, every stall seemed rammed, especially Hasslefree, Heresy, Black Scorpion, Zinge & Prodos. Forge World - I couldn't even see the stand there were sooo many punters - must have been 3 or 4 deep in places..
Really nice displays and demo games going on, I didn't get any pics though as batteries died after I'd been to Prodos for AvP.
Also resisted from spur of the moment spending, picked up my Basius basing plates from Zinge and a 'not' Dr Who - War Doctor (Doctor Payne) from Heresy. And that was my lot...
Another huge success, in short quite impressed with:
- AVP minis, that plastic is durable and my concerns with the fragility of the tails etc are now put to rest good one Prodos
- Sedition wars new previews and lted resins some cracking new strain minis!
- Renedra new plastic sprues on the Shieldwolf Mountain orcs are very good and a good step in right direction in therms of plastic kits outside GW.
- Bushido, Eden, Freebooter Fate are some of the plenty small games growing stronger, very professional stuff overall.
- Mierce miniatures really delivered a strong punch on my wallet, we all know their minis have quality since the best sculptors in the industry work for them but theres something about having the miniatures in your hands and see the actual scale, detail etc to fully understand the quality. The minis are HUGE and so is the quality!
- More impressive demo tables this year.
- A big increase on MDF type terrain a bit everywhere.
- Hawk wargames minis stand and table simply memorable.
Interesting comment from FW guys when one of my buddies commented about WD fiasco, they were truly interested in asking what are the expectations regarding whitedwarf etc...
My view - good show, abysmal queues to get in. Warlords need to grip this as at present their entry planning for the event is, frankly, nowhere near good enough relative to the numbers who go.
From a retailers perspective, definitely a significant improvement over previous years. I managed to get away from the stand for about 10 minutes so didn't see much of the rest of the show sadly.
I managed to get there despite putting my back out yesterday. I was the one walking very very slowly in a white star wars t-shirt with 2 boys ... Didn't buy much as I couldn't carry but lots of ideas. A nice day out despite the pain ...
First-timers view [first time at any sort of gaming convention]
Cons first [just in case you can't be bothered to read the rest of my post.]
Retailers really need to step it up in terms of discounts. At no point did I feel like I needed to buy anything on the day. The general consensus amongst my friends was that we would rather wait and get it online for cheaper. From what I could tell, some of the Weyland Games stuff was actually MORE expensive at Salute than it was online [e.g. Crusade of Fire - £10 online price, something like £20 at Salute - my mate was going to pick up a copy but unsurprisingly declined]. I had a fair amount of money to potentially spend but ended up buying a FW T-Shirt, a round dice, and some paint. Total spend £24.50. Another friend was flirting with getting a KR bag but with no discounts, it just wasn't worth the hassle to carry it around/home.
Forge World seriously needed to have a queue, it was just a scrum. I saw a few people give up, and selection of who to serve next seemed to be at random.
Pros
Loved the sense of community. Pretty amazing to see so many people into different aspects of the hobby.
Had a lot of fun on the Dusk Tactics demo board [90% convinced to take up Dusk Tactics].
NAVARRO wrote: - Hawk wargames minis stand and table simply memorable.
Did anyone nab a pic of the Hawk Wargames stand? They said they'd be showing new minis (maybe even a new race, I think- more of the Resistance perhaps?).
This should be a real belter when it gets released
Drop Zone Commander:
The Hawk stand also had some display pieces of either 3-up or possibly 28mm (didn't see which) versions of some of their ships...and those were lovely.
Clockwork Goblin:
They also had 28mm versions of that walker which looked very nice.
Italeri (I think):
For the League
Malifaux:
Plenty more that I didn't get pics of...none of the Mierce stuff for instance
Overall, a fun and epensive day. Interesting to see what's coming out of the lesser known companies, and the opportunity to hold and examine new sculpts is always welcome. I don't game anymore so the demo games are more of a look at terrain and layouts for me, but again, it's always good to see new options and for peeps to try out other systems. As alredy mentioned by myself and others, I found the hall a bit dark, and although the event seemed less crowded, the stalls seemed to be more so. no idea who won anything in the painting comp, but at least this year we got around to checking it out before it was packed up
Excellent, no sooner do I ask than you post some great shots of the DzC booth! I'd love to see more of that huge ship, and if they had any new models on display... looks very cool

Radio controlled tanks - ah yeah!
Interesting that you mention lack of discounts and then touch on Crusade of Fire. If your friend had checked the website he would have seen that it was our Deal of the Day on the website for the weekend. Its one product that would be a different price out of about 7000 different products we selected to take to the show. You might also have noticed the promotions mention in this thread and there were others on the day including the Warmachine and Hordes offers. That was just Wayland, lots of others stores had special deals and offers. However, Salute is expensive for companies to attend, not just that they have to pay for trader space but the amount of effort required for even a small stand is a lot. If the traders then started to suicide discount to the point that they didn't make a profit from the show, then next year they wouldn't attend and visitors would complain that traders didn't bother attending.
In the brief moments I had to wander around, I though the trade stands and demo games were all busy and the public seemed happy at the show.
Now that's a smackdown!
Real shame I couldn't make it this year (on a family holiday in Poland) but my mates had a fab time. I know I always find a deal or 2 & if you stick around til the end, some traders run after you to try to sell remaining stock & do offer silly discounts.
Never had a bad day there (my wallet does) even though I suffer from depression & chronic pain.
I thought there were some great deals on yesterday tbh - I got 2 mdf paint racks from Troll Trader for £5 each (rude not to at that price), 25% off a big box of 4 ground mdf buildings, a freebie figure from West Wind on a buy 4 get a 5th free deal that I actually missed when picking my stuff and the lovely Wendy pointed out to me, 7 Vallejo's for £10 from Gateshead Gaming.
But a huge thing for me is meeting up with the dealers, sculptors, manufacturers etc in person and getting some interaction, so I'd rather pay full price to people like Etch Master and have them make money at the show so they come back with more cool stuff and give me great ideas. I could probably have got Anarchy Models' airbrush stencils cheaper (although they were already down from £9 to £8), but I got to chat to them and find out they do full day courses which is of great interest. Last year I talked to Zinge about doing 'idiot's kits' for their LED lighting rather than just components - this year they had some and cash left my wallet very quickly.
And sorry rich1231 - I have previously avoided Wayland at Salute as it looked stuffed to the gills with GW and FoW which didn't interest me - I took a look this year and only narrowly avoided buying some of the specialist paint kits by Studio 75 (the black and white kit) and Vallejo (the NMM kits) that you had - if you had Andrea's white kit I wouldn't have held out lol - when my wallet is feeling less hurt I'll check out the paints on your site - that sort of interesting niche product will draw my custom.
TLDR - cheap stuff is cool, interesting stuff keeps me coming back.
Firstly, wow what a day! Thoroughly enjoyed it, absolutely knackered afterwards from many hours driving (should have subwayed into central London!) but completely worth it. One thing is that from reading the show guide and pics on here there is a lot of stuff I missed! Prodos & AvP I couldn't get anywhere near enough to get photos unfortunately, a few other stands (and brilliant display tables) I completely missed! But, it is a great complaint to have, that there was simply too much to see.
Saxon wrote:Anything new from Perry, Victrix or Warlord?
Not sure about Perry or Victrix, although I think the latter had a nice new plastics range. Warlord had demo books out for a new Roman vs. Germanic Barbarian tribes supplement book for Hail Caesar (which looked almost ready for release) and an earlier draft of a Crusades-era book for Hail Caesar.
I took a few pics of some of their stuff, and the new Dad's Army miniatures, which were lovely. I'll post pics of some of the new Gates of Antares minis as well when I have some time.
Also, got star-struck in the presence of a few of the big names there! Rick Priestly (yes, he is surrounded by a nimbus of white light and floats 2" from the ground), Paul Sawyer, Warwick Kinrade, Mike McVey amongst others. Was great to see some of the industry greats!

Yes, I think that's a little bit of the 'modern era' thing to be honest. I managed to get a few show-only type minis, a few bargains from asking around (seriously, ask for a discount or deal, you would be amazed and most places will knock a few quid off), and stuff that I hadn't seen before. I did manage to get 20% off some Infinity stuff from Wayland though which was nice.

Thanks for the reviews and pics so far
Their stand was amazing, I would say they probably put as much effort as anyone into the show. Tons of really enthusiastic staff, we couldn't get the starter set from anywhere at the end of the day, it seemed really popular. Yes I did get some pics of the new resistance range, will post some later on!
Perry's long-awaited plastic foot knights (men at arms in harness) should be out in August. Their AWI infantry was just out. They offered a reasonable bulk discount; 3 boxes for £45.
richred_uk no need to apologise.. Scale75, we are still working on that range and what does and doesn't sell with us so the stock levels for the show were probably not right.
We always worry about the queues, our aim is to have little or no queue all day, however even though we implemented a full epos system which meant our tills were much much faster than before we still had long queues at some point. That is a negative for us, as queues put people off spending, and customers wanting to be looking at stuff not waiting in line. I did try and get some of the staff singing and dancing for you all though. More Tills next year I think. Salute is an exceptional day for all concern, this industry is not made up of large conventions with such numbers therefore its a massive challenge for all traders. I think though it has come on leaps and bounds in the time we have been attending. However its a niche industry, and if you come expecting the same level of polish as you would for other larger shows in other industries you will be let down. But that is part of the charm.
Just been reading some threads on TMP - my god there are some miserable gits out there... Whinging about the queue to get in (they want to try a 3 hour queue for a 2minute rollercoaster or a 6 month wait for surgery)
I thought the queue system was a good idea the Q-buster took 10 mins max from back of queue to in the door, so there's the answer... pre-purchase your ticket and save £1.00!!
Back to show, I forgot to mention the Mierce - amazing models, and I couldn't believe how light they are for the size, no wonder people stick pieces of slate to the bases !
The giant Dropzone ship was pretty cool, still WIP from the looks of it though. My favourite table by far was the giant D-Day game - that was simply inspiring.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and I forgot, but on the Zinge stand they had the Tauros but with 6 wheels instead of the tracks and it looked 100% better. I haven't seen a pic of it yet but take my word for it that it's a vast improvement

It's Wayland not Weyland btw.
You seem a little touchy. You'll notice that I didn't just mention WAyland. On the Crusade of Fire, would it have been that hard to make the offer available on the day too? Sorry but I didn't have time to go through your other 7000 products to check your prices against them before posting. For wha my friends and I were interested in buying we didn't find any appealing discounts (can't speak for others into different game systems though). If you think it good practice to attempt to patronise a previous and potential future customer then that's fine - there are plenty of other discounters I can and will use. You also completely ignored the positives I wrote - I didn't say anyone was unhappy.
Cheers for posting those links to the pics Ruglud, realised how much I missed! Loved the new Gripping Beast stuff, their Crusades game looked great and the Gladiator combat game Jugula looked like tremendous fun. If it's anything like as well designed as SAGA should be a blast.
I arrived just before 11 and walked straight in. Friend of mine who was working on a stall said that the queue was pretty big (they had had to open another section of the hall to accommodate), but that quite a few people just went racing straight to a particular stall. I suppose that's the thing, if you know you want a particular item and it's going to sell out, then obviously you need to get there early and queue - otherwise, you are better off just turning up half an hour later and strolling right in.
Yeah I'm with you Pacific, let's not turn this thread into a moan fest. It's an amazingly difficult event for the traders -organising for the event must be crazy. I briefly visited Wayland and thought the 'stall' was excellent. Can't imagine the logistics behind it for a small 'niche' company.
My hat off to all the traders in fact, they make for a great atmosphere and my kids appreciated all the sweets
As for the Warlords - well done guys (and gals). I had a great day and looking forward to next year. Roll on 2015
I had really hoped to get down to Salute this year - but commitments dictated otherwise. The posts and pictures put up have only heightened my disappointment at not making it, but also increased my resolve to attend next year.
Quick question for anybody in the know - when do the advance tickets normally go up for sale for Salute? (Just want to mark it my diary so I know when to start looking.)

Logistics aside, he's perfectly correct to point out that responding to a previous and potentially future customer's perfectly valid feedback as if they're a petulant kiddy that needs to be put in their place isn't on. And for the record, nor is describing a post that contained a balanced appraisal with positive and negative feedback as a "moan fest".
Smaller companies get a certain amount of leeway because everyone acknowledges they have a difficult job, but they shouldn't expect to be immune to criticism, and people should not unthinkingly leap to put down anyone who dares to do so.
RiTides - Here we go, a few more pics of the DZC stuff. As I said thought their's was one of the most impressive displays of the show, they had really made an effort (and had a lot of floor space!)
For some reason I didn't get a pic of the Resistance drop-ship which looked awesome, and had more than a hint of 'Firefly' about it!
This massive WIP mothership
Close-up, all of the little drop ships on the side of it
Selection of the Resistance tanks and vehicles. Wonderful detail, bear in mind that a lot of these are tiny, just 2-3cm long.
Fantastic day!! Lots to see and do and the standard of the display games was amazing. Has inspired me to look at some new game systems. Picked up a some Horus Heresy and Mechanicum stuff and an Iron Hands mug because you know, "Flesh is weak"

Not sure when they go on sale, but they're available until a couple of weeks before the show (to allow for posting time). I purchased mine on 4th April but they had been available before that...
I thought the queue system was a good idea the Q-buster took 10 mins max from back of queue to in the door, so there's the answer... pre-purchase your ticket and save £1.00!!
I didn't prebook but I turned up at lunch time and walked right in. I didn't miss out on anything either.
Pacific, thanks for the DzC pics! Are those buses with sniper nests on top? I'll have to search out a pic of the resistance drop ship you mention, too.
My first year at salute this year and it was awesome .
Great day out , shed loads to see , spent too much but hey ho
WE actually got a little lost on route so our intended 10 am arrival actually turned into 11am but that was great , we had pre paid tickets and literally walked straight in , still got goody bags as well !
Free mini is very nice and free dice was also a nice touch.
It is literally the who's who of sellers and creators and casters and rule makers from the gaming industry as well as an oppertunity so see some of the legends like the perry twins.
All in all we had a great time and if youve never been to salute .... then get ya arse there next year !

Think that is a point I would like to repeat!
Some more pics. Did anyone get any good photos of that mental large-scale Lord of the Rings game? Also, was there anything of interest on the Mantic stand? (Only found it when they were tidying up).
Some kind of zombie game by 7TV, looked like a lot of fun
15 and 20mm WW2 seemed very popular for different clubs, this was one example of many. The level of detail on a lot of them was awesome.
This was in the Weyland area, terrain by Bandau Games for Infinity (and the colours were really that vivid)
A new modern-era (Afghanistan-based) game called Skirmish in Sangrin, this was the table for it - again looked like a very interesting ruleset, listening to the guy who wrote the rules it sounds like they've made a lot of effort to give the game the 'feel', and statistically accurate, feel of combat between coalition forces and insurgents in the middle-east.
This was 28mm Roman invasion of GB, I think Hail Caesar.

28mm fantasy game.
These buildings are actually a promo setup for a new range of fantasy buildings from 4Ground. I think they said it was going to be called Mordenhelm (or something very Mordheim like ). These were the first builds ready and form part of the slum/dockside area that will be accompanied by shanty town buildings and a big L shaped tavern. There will also be the posh area featuring manor houses etc. Really nice looking models
Prodos games, I can't remember when they said that they will be releasing them (they are starting off with a boardgame IIRC) but it will be a few months as they only have the masters at the moment and their kickstarter ended a couple of months ago.
Excel car parking charge is now £15 flat rate 24hr charge . Rather steep if you only want to stay for a few hours , Used to be be to choose the number of hours required .
Anyone get to see/play a demo of Jugula by Studio Tomahawk? The English language version was due to be debuted at Salute I believe. Very much looking forward to it!

Also, that Taurox, whose wheels are those? I'm itching to get a Taurox, but with those wheels even more so now.
I still don't like the thing but its a huge improvement,
I think the fenders need to be redone after the tires to make it look better. This is a step in the right direction, but still a lot to fix. Though looking through other threads I think I found a use for the tracks.
[
Puppet war bus , If the tracks fit the back of the bus I might just start an Ork hoard (Da Magik Skool Buz)

Yup. The demo was there and very good fun. Very easy to pick up, but the strategy involved, even using the basic rules, will take a while to understand all of the options.
Pretty much everyone I saw play the demo (including me) then went and picked up the rules, cards, models and play mat

Excellent stuff, makes me want it even more! Now to find out when it is going on sale and who is stocking it!
They had quite a lot of stuff there, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it were available directly from Gripping Beast as soon as they have finished unpacking from the show.
Loved the touch with the larger scale miniatures, and the way they are customisable. Didn't get to play the game unfortunately but it did look fun.
Great show reports guys (and gals), really regret not making it to this show (and Paw) sadly stuff came up last minute.
Out of question was there any Anima Tactics stuff or even an Cipher studios presence at all during the event?
Been getting worried about this game lately seems to be dying off, barley any news or updates at all anymore, I hope its just me being paranoid.

I didn't see anything relating to Anima Tactis there and Cipher certainly didn't have a stand
The Hawk Wargames stand was superb and the 9' ship very impressive up close. Apparently there had gone 500 hours of work into it by that point. A nice little hint at the upcoming space combat game. I actually had my first game of DZC there and was impressed enough to pick up a copy of the starter set. Watch out for a painting blog soon!
The whole show whizzed by and I could have quite easily spent another day there and still jot seen it all. Picked up some Peter Pig bits, some paint and couple of blisters from Clockwork Goblin.
Sadly I didn’t take as many pictures as I would have liked to.

May/June 2014 according to their Kickstarter updates. They were waiting on 20th Century Fox to approve some stuff IIRC.
I am most fortunate to have been able to back this project. Cause HOLY their Preds and Alien models look gorgeous
Seriously though - that'll slip a month or two due to production time alone if they still need approval now (as indeed they do).
I'm not counting on much before late july, maybe august.
