This June we plan to run our first kickstarter. We want to ask you guys to help us collect funds for two brand new Wolsung SSG factions, new rules and a lot of new minis to add to our three existing clubs. Stay tuned for new info about our project which we will share this month.
Here is a bunch of new sketches that we have prepared. As you can see on the pictures they are inspired by Italian mobsters The head of this faction are halflings but you will also find there a lot of Ogres.

We are working on the best shipping method and pricing to US and Australia. We are in touch with some courier firms etc. The biggest terrain pledge will weight 10kg!

If you want to use tommy-guns and gangster suits, then add vacuum tubes and diesel engines and call it 'dieselpunk'.
Steampunk as a genre has a very distinct H.G. Wells, Jules Verne, Victorian period architecture feel. There has been over the last few years such a solidification of that aesthetic that a deviation from it is glaring and recognizable.
I'm only saying this to encourage you to be more focused with your ideas and think them through a bit more.
I think a 'dieselpunk' setting would be a great idea, no one is doing it much right now. It could take pulp gaming to another level.
Even if he did do a dieselpunk theme game, people would still call it steampunk. Steampunk has become a bastardized term, unfortunately. go on to ebay and search for steampunk.
It's hilarious.
But I would love to see a strong setting in a Dieselpunk world, with all that beautiful art deco work, much like you see in Bioshock. They did their home work on that. Door knobs, tiles, walls, wood works. Amazing stuff in that game.

If I did the math right, that $230 pledge a significant savings over the 'regular' price (about $300) - the real potential deal breaker there will be shipping, of course!

This is mostly a matter of taste and "accuracy" of term "steampunk" We are using existing World (First there was a Wolsung RPG) We read about the halfling Mafia and that was so great idea for miniatures that we decided that we need to do this.
World of Wolsung is a mixture of steampunk/ fantasy (dragons)/ and pop culture. It's all about fun in the end.
And we promise - that we will not include any space marines ( unless they will look steampunky

So the retailer price for this pledge is about 330$ The shipping is 40$ to US, but if you take more pledges you pay only for the heaviest

Is there not a better way to get around this, legally?

sadly not
1) either a company imports a container load of stuff into the EU (and they pay the taxes) and deal with cusoms, the container load can then be sent out by a forwarding company (some will handle the import paperwork for a fee, some won't) to the backers
while option 1 is more hassle for the company it may not be all that more expensive (depite paying taxes and for a forwarding service), especially if the packages are heavy as it's a lot cheaper to ship stuff within the EU than from the USA to the EU.... but it only really makes sense if you have a decent number of backers in the EU to send stuff too
or
the company ships from outside the EU to individual buyers, and they buyers pay VAT of approx. 20%, it varies from country to country (+ possible other charges and taxes too)
In theory a company could declare a fake value to minimise customs charges to the buyers, but this is ILLEGAL so not something they should do.
(They could possibly declare something like a manufacturing cost rather than a retail cost but the actual mechanics of this require a qualified EU tax/import export to determine exactly how and what to do which tend to be to expensive/inconvenient for most to do as if they try it and get it wrong once again it's illegal)

Sorry for being off topic also, but I believe if someone buys the KS for you from the territory it's sold from, in this case the EU, and then sent it to you as a gift it's exempt from import duties (I think). Although then you would be doubling up on postage.

I'll admit, I was hoping to dual purpose this Wolsung terrain for WILD WEST EXODUS too - so I'm sad to hear that might not work?
I'm in the same boat, but finding 35mm terrain is basically impossible outside of the couple of MAS licensed buildings, so I just use as close to 35mm as possible. This looks like it might work. Hopefully we will see a comparative scale shot at some point during the campaign. If not it will be great for Malifaux, and could potentially work for WM.
Not to go too OT but for the life of me I'll never understand why the WWX made some of the decisions they made (scale, bases to name 2).

Welp, you've pretty much just guaranteed that i'll be pledging for this one. Really high shipping costs would have been the only thing that potentially put me off from pledging.

Seems neat, but a bit too pricey for me, especially factoring in the shipping and that the rules require 50% of the board to be filled with terrain, and 50% of that to be these massive multi-level buildings.
I think I'll stick with Deadzone (which this seems to play like) and save my KS money for Zombicide later this month.
Wow, was really interested in the terrain untill I saw the price! Well out of my price range im afraid. I seriously think companies need to find a cheaper alternative to MDF/HDF (sheets of it can't be that expensive!). I wish you the best of luck with your campaign though!
Are there any plans on adding some more scenery add ons? I'm in for the Downtown pledge, because it's awesome, but I'm pretty much at my limit and would love to add the rulebooks and and some minis. If there was an option for some of the walkways and buildings to add onto a two player pledge that would be great. If I'm in the position I'm sure I'm not the only one.
The pricing doesn't seem that bad to me. The models are going for about 8-15 dollars. That's about on par with high end single metal miniatures from most manufacturers.
The terrain looks a little pricey, but not out of this world for MDF terrain. It does strike me as more in the range of pre-painted MDF terrain though. But it is hard to get a real sense of it without handling the terrain.
All in all it looks like a well put together Kickstarter.

However the price is definitely far out of the ballpark for what I would ever consider for a kickstarter. $150 for the rules, dice and ten minis for a game I have to wait 6 months to get is a hard sell...

This is directed at the Terrain add ons (flats and ware house specifically) not any pledge level
Of course you back something because you want it to succeed? And it has! It's funded! Huzzah! (A lot of this kickstarter is a high profile sale to fund some new stuff)
Now as far as buying more terrain. (Again I'm not talking about anything else but terrain add ons)
If money is not an issue why don't you give micro art studio more of it by buying direct from them without any discount? You'll get your Shiney stuff sooner and you can start enjoying the steampunk universe in all it's glory.

You can buy from a local(same country) retailer, potentially showing that retailer that there is a local market for this game and they can order more off of micro art studio. Which could then lead to the benefits a larger "shelf share" in a shop entails. And you as the customer get your new Shiney terrain cheaper and sooner.
Me if I was so inclined to get more terrain than I have in my downtown pledge I'd go with the local retailer route quicker, cheaper, still supporting micro art studio.

It sounds as if it is what you're looking for, and you're still supporting MAS, just not necessarily in this KS, which may or may not be a good thing, depending on your opinion about KS campaigns and such.
"Henry Bucklepunch" is one of the funniest names for a character ever. It's one of those few instances where I want the model just so I can say the name more often.
Also, can we get an update to the first post with a link to the kickstarter, the only link available right now is buried among posts at the bottom of the 2nd page.
It would drum up more interest I think if it was more easily accessed.
Micro art studios make some very nice stuff. I know them from their infinity line of products. Their customer services is absolutely fantastic. They are a fantastic company.

Any level that gets stretch goal rewards gets a free shanty town.
And if you pledge enough to buy several levels, you get a shanty town per level pledged for. E.g. I'm pledging for the 2 player mega set and harbor terrain, so I get 2 sets of stretch goals and therefore 2 shanty towns!

Yes if they will be un-clocked you will be able to take what you want

Yep. Not sure how the shipping will work out on that though. Better to expect to pay double shipping, so $180 total.
Still works out to be less than $6.50 per point. (Plus the freebies.). Most models are only 1 point. And that car at $13 is what is going to drag me in.
You can multipledge as much as you like and claim freebie stretch goals for each pledge as applicable. You do have to pay shipping for each pledge, but shipping is capped at $60 no matter how much you order.
Personally, I'm going with 4x Miniature Picker, Harbor Terrain and Rulebook pledges, netting me 5 sets of free stretch goals!
But really, I'm interested to see how big that is really going to be. 120mm base doesn't really tell me the height. Still, a 120mm model for about $50 is not too bad.

Wolsung is turning into one of those games where I'm having a real issue choosing which factions to concentrate on. They're all just so full of character.
I think (think) I've settled on the Inventors Club and Van Reir. Sniping throuhg mirrors and Necro Golems swung it for me, but... Shades....and Butlers.....
The buildings though... the buildings are outstanding. Especially for a Skirmish game, I want them bad. I've just been building up so much terrain to use with Heavy Gear and Infinity, and now all I want to do is build a table for all this wonderful steampunk stuff.
I'm supposed to be saving for a wedding, not miniature buildings! GAH!

Just something to hold errything together while the glue dries. They make bigger ones, and don't bother springing for the expensive versions... we're holding together little MDF buildings, not 2x4s.
Yeah, they're a godsend for working with MDF and other fiberboards. But since the glues you typically use for terrain take longer to dry, unless you're an octopus an extra set of hands is ideal.

Ah, how are the instructions? In my experience micro arts instructions sometimes are not the clearest and hard to follow. My biggest grip with their stuff, the MDF terrain is very nice and I enjoy using it and I always feel that I get my money's worth out of it, but trying to make the stuff can be a pain in the neck at times.
I was meaning to ask if we'll be able to add stuff on after the KS is finished. I'm thinking mainly about minis like the massive gollum which we've only seen concepts for.
You can add stuff during the pledge manager, but if you know what you want then you can just bump up your pledge amount by the amount of the things you want to purchase. That helps raise the pledge total and unlock more goodies!

Yes guys pledge now and unlock more minis. But you can add additional credits in the pledge manager after the kickstarter and you will get all the freebies that are included in the pledges.
Instructions are alright. They certainly aren't lego sets! But after dealing with Infinity, who doesn't give you instructions no matter how ridiculous the model, I just tend to scream 'Jesus Take The Glue!' and see what happens.
The big thing is having a sharp razor to finish cutting out some of the parts, as they tend to leave just a tiny bit still connected to hold everything in place.
With their bigger terrain stuff, I just recommend having a clean, large work area, and to take your time. That stops me from screwing up too bad.

Indeed. Rock solid stuff.
One of the benefits of using a good wood glue is that if you DO botch something up, you can pull it back apart, wipe the part down with a damp cloth to get the glue off, and figure out what you did wrong... usually with no issue to any of it. So food for thought.
Is there an up to date list of stretch freebies somewhere? I see another 1 for 70,000$ and another for 350 backers, so are we at 6 free points, or are there more hidden away in updates or were they already accounted for in the 4 graphic?

Assuming 6 free points + 10 from the $75 pledge comes to $5/mini after shipping, which is pretty tempting already.

Yep, the KS page tells you the expected fulfillment date in the pledge levels. But like I said, it will be a little late. Should get it by the end of the year though.

If there is anything missing [most probably these will be just miniatures] it will be sent directly to you as soon as we have them. So all in all - most supporters from these regions will receive 2 packages from us. When it comes to European supporters - the packages will be sent directly as we wrote earlier."

That was one of the many models I couldn't live without when picking my KS rewards. It's stunning, and will be even better with its street lamp weapon!
Starting with good news: the palette with Australian packages was dispatched last Friday and it should have already arrived. Our befriended company will dispatch it from there all around the continent.
That means they were dispatched two weeks ago tomorrow, so shouldn't be too far away.
I haven't been this excited about receiving a KS shipment in a long time. I'm on the verge of a 'squeee' here. Undignified for a man of my age.
My tracking email arrived! Not long now! I lost track of what will be in this shipment and what is still to come, but I think I should have enough for at least a small game.

Aw. Just got the tracking email - the parcel missed my wife at home and she'll have to pick it up from the post office tomorrow :( I don't get to play with it tonight. Phooey.
First off the products are all great quality. The rulebooks are beautiful a joy to read first hand even if I've read the PDFs before. These are the first MAS studios minis I've seen and I'm impressed how minor the mold lines are and how easily the separate parts match up.

Although it is a bit disappointing I only received one starter set of minis, but that's my own fault for selecting two other faction starters which haven't been made yet. Still, that will give me time to finish off my cobblestone game board and assemble these buildings. Great stuff.
Well my final shipment arrived and I'm very impressed. I haven't seen such detailed plastic minis before, I can't wait to get to apinting the biocognitator golem and zombie ogres.
My only problem now is finding a stockist in Australia.....
And now I have it in hand (Thanks drazz!) and I can't quite figure out how some of the weapon options for the Huge/Giant Golem go together - is there a picture guide somewhere?
