HELLO
Welcome to the update thread for the 7th Edition Reference Sheets. Making these gives me a good excuse to read the whole book and double-check anything, and maybe actually learn the rules! The sheets certainly won't show you how to play 40k, but they should feature all the important tables and pertinent points.
If you use them, plase feed back with the following...
- Any mistakes or typos
- Anything I've missed that would be useful
- Anything you had to go back to the book to look up in your game.
- Anything you can think of for the 'Concise Turn Sequence' - I'm trying to put in everything it's easy to forget to do!

I'm a bit of two minds whether or not this is against forum posting rules; after all, this summary is extensive enough to play the game with if you don't own the rulebook.
Having said that; it's definitely very helpful and I'm going to use it whenever I need a quick read up on the rules before games.

Yes, I was wondering that too - it's certainly more concise than the last one I did.
Having said that, I don't think this could replace the Rulebook in any way. It's not complete by any means, you'd still need a book on hand to check difficult situations, and you'd need to actually know how to play 40k to begin with, so I hope it still stands as a 'summary of the rules' rather than a 'reprint of the rules'

Thank you so much!
My wife and I always buy the books, so it isn't an issue of ownership, but somehow those feel so imposing to have on hand when at a FLGS having a casual game or two.
These kinds of player aids help immensely, and we're terribly grateful. :-)

Thanks for sharing!
I was looking through it a bit, and noticed some typos.
On page 1 under Instant Death and Cover Saves, you typed in "would" instead of "wound."
Not a big deal, but I thought I'd let you know.
Thanks again for this! I'll let you know if I see anything else.

You might want to take another look at the Building Damage Table, specifically next to Structural Collapse.
Brilliant work otherwise.

Ooh, this is nice! Was just wondering myself why the rulebook doesn't have a rules summary in its back as it had in 6th.

Post by: Brother Michael
Found a mistake: you should change 'An allocated wound has Instant Death if the S value of the attack is double the T value of the model.' to '...is double the T value of the model or more.'
Also, under 'determining assault results' and then 'sweeping advances', it doesn't state what happens if both results are the same.
Under 'Witchfire (nova)' it says 'emery' instead of 'enemy'.
Telepathy sub-section has three spelling errors.
Under 'Tank Shock & Ram', it isn't specified if the strength value is rounded up or down.
'Embarking & Disembarking': 'novel' instead of 'model'

Might want to add 'Declare Jink' in the shooting sequence immediately before roll to hit (step 5).
Excellent work on the sheet will find it very useful.

Yes, I realised that some of the quite basic ORDER in which you resolve things had changed in 7th. So I tried to get the very basic 'order of resolving things' correct for all the mechanics. It was one of the things we were always looking up in 6th!

Um, there doesn't seem to be a NO ESCAPE special rule any more. You place models as if they had been disembarked. If you can't you place them as if emergency disembarked. If you still can't, they're dead. Right?

I was camping the old 6ed thread and just saw that you posted the new one Anyways, for my group, and other super casual players out there let me just say, THANK YOU
Edit:
With that said, after looking at all the sheets, the one thing that was really nice about the 6th edition ones was that their was only 4 sides to them and thus only two sheets when printed back to back. If it is a huge undertaking don't bother, but if there is anyway to trim some items to fit them to 3 back-to-back sheets (like maybe removing the allies matrix and basic composition of allies) from the sheets, or moving them to their own sheet so it would fit, that would be awesome. I think removing things like allies, FoC's etc., because usually when my group shows up to play, they already have their army list made and use these sheets to remember rules used "in game" if you know what I mean.

Hello! If you print page 5 separately and the other six pages as back to back, then you'll end up with all the important gaming stuff of three sheets. Page 5 is the pre-game sequence and the like and probably won't be used much past the first turn!

This is great. I did notice one issue. Under "Go To Ground" there are redundant bullet points.
- Non-vehicle units may Go To Ground!
- Vehicles cannot Go To Ground.
Also, Monstrous Creatures can no longer go to Ground, so you could change one of the redundant bullets to address it.
For reference see the "Shooting" section under the Monstrous Creature unit type.

Just what I was looking for. Thanks for thinking ahead
Noticed a really minor fix.I apologize for the nit picky grammar Nazi fix, and you can just wait to fix it whenever something more substantial comes up but I thought you would still want to know.
For Look out Sir! (p2) it reads, "....it may be reallocated the closest a model in the same unit..." it should be," Reallocated to the closest model in the same unit".

These are super awesome, thank you so much! I was hoping to make some cheat sheets for a tournament at my FLGS in a couple weeks but I definitely don't need to now.
My only comment/question is: What's the logic behind the page ordering? I would think turn order would be more intuitive for people to access quickly, and they could always keep their most used sections folded open if they prefer. Doesn't seem like anything crosses the page boundaries, so it should be a simple swap. Reordering to 7,6,1,2,3,4, and page 5 at the end so people printing double-sided can just not staple that to the others make the most sense to me.
Minor comment though. Stellar work.

Loving the sheet, much easier to reference than a digital book.
I may have found a slight mistake or I may have misunderstood the rules.
Page 2, Charge Distances.
Under "Jump, Using" it states you get the -2 on distance where as under "Jetpack, Using" it doesn't state the -2. I'm not 100% certain but I don't think either get the modifier. In any case I think they both use the same rules which ever they are.
Please let me know if I'm mistaken and thanks again for the hard work.

Absolutely amazing.
Two errors.
You have Forests listed as area terrain, they actually require 25% obscured. Ruins/Rubble and craters are now the only pieces of area terrain.
Craters are only a 6+ area terrain not a 5+.
Edit: My mistake, you are talking about the Twisted Copse Woods which is area terrain and specific to the GW piece, though I'm assuming most players are going to treat all woods this way. You are also missing the standard Difficult Terrain grants a 5+ if 25% obscured.

Very minor, but two cases of "it's" when it should be "its".

Catastrophic Damage "Roll on this table immediately after a Super-heavy loses it's last Hull Point"

Found one thing missing (not sure if it can even happen) and one minor spelling error.
On page 2 of the PDF under "Independent Characters (p166)"
-May not join units containing MCs
They also cannot join units containing vehicles. It's in the rule book but I have no idea if that is even possible in the current rules. Chariots maybe?
-ICs who leave units still suffer ongoing effects - ICs who joint units do not suddenly gain them.
I assume the "t" is not meant to be there.
Not being super critical, just noticed those two things. I really appreciate all the work you put into these and use them in almost every game.

Thanks! Excellent resource. The table says that WS 2 vs WS 4 would need 4+ to hit, but my digital BRB copies (sorry, I don't have a physical copy) claim 5+ (even though that doesn't fit the rest of the pattern at all). I'm assuming that your version is correct. Is that right?

Thanks for taking the time to put this together!
It really helps move through a game quicker and helps learning the details of the game especially if you do not have the luxury to play that often and/or are just starting out.
Please let me know if you do any updates in the future and would you consider sharing an editable version? It looks like the file may be in Excel.
I was thinking of adding some other things that would help me not forget things being more of a newer player (e.g. Bulky special rule, chapter tactics, etc.).

I've been meaning to do an update for ages now. I guess the holidays are as good a time as any, so please request stuff and I'll put it all in next week. I'll go back through the last few posts to check.
Regarding editable versions, a few people have asked and I'm happy to share the file, but it's in Pages for Mac, so maybe not as easily editable as people think!!

Some potential additions/changes for your consideration:
Assault sheet
Add "issue challenge" in fight sub-phase sequence somewhere appropriate. Maybe put (optional) qualifier on it.
Add something about rolling to save details. For example cover saves, armor saving, invulnerable, etc.
Shooting Phase sheet
Add something about rolling to save details. Armor saves, armor piercing weapons, max save.
Perhaps "Save" information could go all together in blank column on next to "Morale" but probably better on assault and shooting sheets where you need it.
Unit Type sheet
Add under walker assault section a sentence saying shaken damage results do not affect the walker in anyway.
Special Rules sheet
Add others to fill up the sheet to help going back to the rule book.
I think these are the ideas for now I can think of. I will leave it up to your creativeness and good judgement to what and how you decide to do in your next version.
From my perspective this is a great training aid and helps gives a leeser experienced player the insights of a more experienced player like yourself. I own a the rulebook but trying to go back and forth is difficult and slows things down to make sure you did not forget to do something important. This becomes a little overwhelming when you are just starting out or if you only have time to be a causal player.

Finally, AN UPDATE. Ok, so we're now on V4 - you can tell as I actually put a version number on the last page, and I've changed the table highlight colour to green. Fancy.

FIXED

Nope, it turns out the book is correct. WS1 and WS2 are indeed weird. I've fixed this on the sheets.

So, I've added Issue Challenge in the correct place, and found space for a 'Saving Throws' box on the Shooting page. Walker shaken information also added.
With Special Rules, all of them should be there. I transcribed the whole section. The exceptions are the ones that refer to a weapon type (Torrent, Destroyer, etc) which are on the Shooting page. Please let me know if there are some that are missing - like 'Bulky', which was hidden in the Transport section! Automatically Appended Next Post: adamsouza wrote:

Thank you so much for these; I wish I'd known about them months ago! I even considered developing my own flowcharts for each phase with all the exceptions.
The Charge Sub-Phase correctly says: - Vehicles cannot fire Overwatch.
... but their passengers can. Might be worth adding.
Also it's my understanding that "A unit being Charged may only fire Overwatch once per turn and only if not locked in combat."
On the last page, you might change "Models must remain within 2” horizontally {OR to AND} 6” vertically"

Hey dude, I think this comes down to available tech.
My printer is bad at borderless full page printing, so the pages area is reduced as I always have a border

Hi Ian, thanks for the reference sheets, they really are invaluable!
There is a possible mistake in the Desperate Allies rule, which in the v4 PDF states: "Any unit within 6" of a Desperate Ally at the start of the turn must take a Ld check"
However, checking the rulebook, it looks like this should only happen if a 1 is rolled on a D6?

I printed them out at work and used a cutter to slice each page in half (Special Rules into thirds), then made copies of the sliced pages, blowing them up 130%. They upscaled perfectly - no loss of clarity at all.
I printed out copies for each person in my group. They were used EXTENSIVELY last weekend.
Sadly, we're all too old for our eyes to read the smaller text as the document is now.

To be THAT GUY, if it were really a logical OR then a unit could deploy more than 2" apart so long as they were all on the table (within 6" vertically.) And it seems clear that models more than 6" apart vertically would not be in coherency no matter how close horizontally. I think there's a mistake:
Tank Shock and Ram, page 8, step 5: "Enemy units contacted make a Ld test"
The unit affected have to take a Morale test, not a Ld test. Units with fearless wouldn't be affected by Tank Shock because they automatically pass Morale check.

It's 5+ on mine, but it makes no sense - all others get 5+ only at double WS+1 (WS1 fights at 5+ only vs WS3, WS3 only vs WS7 and WS4 only vs WS9). So I think it's a typo from the book - it should be 4+

Hey,
Great job! Really helpful.
However, i've found one error:
page:
PSYCHIC PHASE
Malediction:
Multiple effects from the same power are
not cumulative
From 7ED rules:
Malediction
Maledictions weaken the Psyker’s enemies by reducing their characteristics or inflicting
special rules that penalise their abilities. Maledictions target one or more enemy
units and, unless otherwise stated, last until the start of the Psyker’s next
Psychic phase. Maledictions can affect units that are locked in close combat. Note that
bonuses and penalties from different maledictions are always cumulative, but cannot,
unless otherwise stated, take characteristics above 10 or below 1 (or below 2, in the case
of Leadership).
Maledictions can be cumulative. it is in RB and mentioned in some codexes (Chaos Marine Symphony of Pain etc.):
Symphony of Pain is a malediction that targets a single
enemy unit within 24". Whilst this power is in effect,
that unit is at -1 Weapon Skill and -1 Ballistic Skill.
Furthermore, any Attacks from sonic weapon that hit the
target unit whilst this power is in effect are resolved at +l
Strength. Note that the effect of more than one Symphony
of Pain are cumulative.
It's note, not special rule so i guess maledictions ARE cumulative.
95417
Post by: ColonelFazackerley
It's not an error. The presence of the word "same" is important.
Examples of codex (advanced) rules overriding basic (BRB) rules are fair enough. This does not mean that the ref sheet is wrong. That is the basic rule. It is true for all powers that do not explicitly override it.

Hi guys - I've included the couple of rules things mentioned above in a new Version 7. The OP has been updated. Not much in the way of changes here but at least everything is in.
The questions about size, formatting and files I get a lot -
- Regarding making a large format version, this would mean making a whole new file, and then updating both! I'd suggest either printing A3 or using print settings to upscale the file. It's an even number of columns, so it should print perfectly across two sheets of portrait A4 scaled up to 200%
- Regarding making the file available, I'm not really up for doing that for a couple of reasons. First, I make this in Pages on a Mac, which means most people won't be able to edit it anyway. Secondly, I'd rather not run the risk of various different 'edits' of this floating around!
Thanks!

As always, thanks for the continued work on this. It's invaluable to keeping things moving during a game!
Regarding the resizing, depending on how it's being resized, the magnification from A4 to A3 is 141%, not 200% because the long side of A4 becomes the short side of A3. This is certainly true for resizing on a photocopier, but there might be something more straight forward when printing.

The table in the BRB is wrong and has been debated on this very forum and checked with GW. This table is correct.
Also might be worth adding somewhere
Super-heavy Walkers, Movement and Shooting.
‘Super-heavy Walkers can move 12" in the Movement
phase. If moving into or within difficult terrain, double
the result of the highest dice roll when making a Difficult
Terrain test - this is the maximum distance in inches that
the model can move.’

Ok, a new version of the sheets is now online, at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4104995/Games/7edRef_V8.pdf
Quite a few changes, including major ones to the layout. I did this for the following reasons:
- The sheets are now PORTRAIT, as I found this more useful at the gaming table - if you have space at the side it's usually long and thin.
- This spacing and numbering has been changed to give me more space for text, so the descriptions can be less 'shorthand'.
- There is more space overall, as I'm planning to include all the FAQ changes (when they're confirmed) and probably the Death from Skies extra phase.
- I lost the big half-page detachment diagram as it's getting simpler with the new supplement/datasheet layout. I replaced this with more detail in the 'Building an Army' box.
- Also, I snuck in some branding for my club. Go HATE CLUB!!
As you can see, there is more space for tables in this version, so if there's anything you want included, let me know. Nothing Faction-specific, please, just stuff that benefits everyone! Automatically Appended Next Post: Fawenah wrote: As the correct number of Warp Charges is 3.

Guys that I play with already want me to do versions for their armies, maybe we can expand it out to encourage others to do custom "appendices" that cover codex info for individual armies! Yeah, that would be useful - I never got around to this because keeping the main one up to date was enough. Also, I don't play most armies, so I never had real impetus to make them - I started making one for Tau once, and then they changed the codex!! Here's the link to a style sheet people can use to make their own army versions. Apple Pages 2016. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4104995/Games/Reference%20Sheets%20SS%20v8.zip

I really appreciate the work you gave put into these, my gaming group use these all the time now. However the table for outflanking seems to be wrong.

Really nice cheat sheets!
The special rules list isn't sorted entirely correct. The following rules are in the wrong location:
And they shall know no fear
Air-to-air
Armourbane
Melta
Slow & purposeful
Smash
Split fire
Two-handed

First of all this is amazing
Not sorting through everything in the thread, but here are the few mistakes I noticed
pg 3- copy paste error for Outflank. You have the same rolls as DS mishap. Should be 1-2, 3-4. 5-6
pg 3- Movement Table. Jet Pack (not using)- the not using part is cut off
pg 1- for the CAD and Allied det, you are missing "(or no faction)" for the faction requirements
pg 2- Linebreaker does not have its VP listed like the other 2 secondaries
pg 2- I don't see variable game length listed anywhere
pg 1- you don't define insane heroism

Looks like we've got some publicity from Spiky Bits (the Buzzfeed of geeking)! They're being their usual clickbait selves. "YOU' LL NEVER BELIEVE WHAT IS ON THESE REFERENCE SHEETS! I WAS SO SHOCKED BY PAGE FOUR!" "IF YOU LOVE 40k YOU' LL LOVE THIS LINK PLEASE CLICK ME PLEASE PLEASE" "ALL NEW THING HONEST PLEASE CLICK HERE ITS DEFINITELY NEW AND NOT BEEN AROUND FOR TWO YEARS WE PROMISE" They've linked to v8 instead of v9. I think I'll just change the link to 7edREF_Current and update the file it relates to - that way everyone is always getting the most recent version. Still, hopefully it'll get a few people down to the club... http://www.spikeybits.com/2016/06/new-40k-7th-edition-quick-reference-sheets-spotted.html

First of, this is a great summary, and a great addition to help us play!
Second, telekinesis (6):
Psychic Maelstrom (Witchfire 2)
R12” S10 AP1 Assault 1, Large Blast,
Barrage.
Should be:
Psychic Maelstrom (Witchfire 3)
R12” S10 AP1 Assault 1, Large Blast,
Barrage.
As the correct number of Warp Charges is 3.
Would also love an addition of the Chaos Daemons spells along with the CSM
My BRB has this listed as Warp Charge 2 - was this errata at some point?

Thank you for including the variable game length! It's one I constantly had to look up because my dumb ol' brain refused to remember it. Very helpful!

This is a very useful set of charts and I appreciate that you went through the effort to make it.
Though you should go back and look for spelling mistakes like apostrophe misuse. There's a ton of them.

@Star Man - ArbitorIan has put a lot of effort into this. Why not help him out and point out the mistakes, rather than him having to spend time finding them? I'm sure that would be appreciated

@ArbitorIan - my gaming group have said that a one-page super-summary would be useful.
I chucked together a page by copying your 'Concise Turn Sequence', 'Assault To Hit' chart, 'To Wound' chart, 'Vehicle Damage' chart and 'Vehicle Shooting' chart.
I also put a table together that's a combination of the 'movement distances', 'moving in the shooting phase' and 'charge distances' tables to help it all fit on a page.
What we've found is this covers the stuff we constantly need, and the other pages are stuff we might refer to a few times a game, or not even every game.
If you're interested I can send it over to you, post it here, or whatever. I'm sure with the work you've put into these so far you could make it better.

Uh, where's the 30k version?
Also, in the light of the new FAQ, it would be advisable to change the battle-brother tip to include "units from different factions cannot enter transports of each other" or something like that

Any chance your thinking of doing one for the 8th edition?

I will, so it might be a few weeks until I have time to go through and make one.
Definitely in the pipeline though!

YO!
I've got a few messages about these no longer being available/updated.
Partly this is because Dropbox doesn't allow direct downloads any more, but if you have a login, you can find them at:
HH 7ed - https://www.dropbox.com/s/tp3qxyzu9lnwmbr/7edRef_HH.pdf?dl=0
40k 7ed - https://www.dropbox.com/s/4h493n3htzg8tsx/7edRef_v8.pdf?dl=0
I'm NOT going to be updating these any more, even the Heresy ones. After the release of 8ed, I switched over and have been developing the 8ed Heresy system instead. No space for 7ed in my brain any more!
If anyone would like to keep these going for Heresy, let me know and I'll send you the project files - they're in Pages for OSX.

If you could, I would like to give it a try, if you still have the project files.
