Huh... it does look rather purple in that shot. Was posted from my phone, so didn't really notice.
It's actually boltgun metal with a black wash, same as my other Iron Wolves. Just weird lighting.
Apparently, though, while my wife is tolerant of a lot of the things that go into my hobby, sitting up a midnight the night before a tournie painting knotwork on a tank is not spouse-approved behaviour

Still working away at updating my Iron Wolves.
I had decided a while back that their bases were just a bit boring, but didn't want to have to completely re-base them.
So, I'm adding some shrubbery (still very much WIP)

It's alive!
Again!
Really must get some more complete photos of the Iron Wolves... But in the meantime, I have started work on a small Dark Angels army for my nephew. Will be mainly just the Dark Vengeance minis, with the power armour characters replaced with these Terminator characters instead...
Lightning Claw guy will be a Belial stand-in (so the DV set is a legal Battleforged list), and the other is a Librarian.
Only minor converting here... Swapped the wing badge on the Captain's torso for a shield, as the wing got in the way of the Lightning Claw arm. And the Librarian has some cabling added on the hood for his psychic hood, and the book added to make it obvious.

Post by: insaniak
A little more work on my nephew's marines.
Aside from the characters, they're just about bog standard DV guys... I swapped the storm bolter arm from the chainfist termie with one of the 2 clone guys, to avoid having two completely identical models in a 5-man squad.
It feels a little weird to be not converting anything, but the aim here was to be as quick and inexpensive as possible...
Automatically Appended Next Post: And while we're here - Test colour scheme:
Again, quick is the name of the game. Undercoat spray of red, basecoat orange, pick out the dark bits with grey, metal bits with boltgun metal, and bone bits with bone, and then a wash with Army Painter's 'I Can't Believe It's Not Devlan Mud' wash. Eyes with Scorpion Green (although they've washed out a little in the pic... they're brighter IRL).
They're ultimately just be orange Dark Angels, as they still have all of the Dark Angels iconography on them. I'm thinking of calling them the Angels Clementine ...

Some Maelstrom's Edge minis in progress... Some of these pics were shown during the Kickstarter, but there's a couple other bits and pieces that I was working on. And hopefully I can sit down and get some paint on these sometime soon...
First Hunter robot. Stock model aside from the left leg, which was bent at the knee to create the running pose.
3
99
Post by: insaniak
Second Hunter.
Mostly stock model, just moved the rocket pods onto the shoulders and added a slight bend to the knees to give him more of a 'braced to fire' stance.
3
99
Post by: insaniak
Third Hunter robot. Added a bend to the left foot for the walking pose, shifted the missiles from behind the head to the forearm, and slightly modified the chaingun (the shield behind it is intended for the flakk gun, but I liked the way it looked)
3
99
Post by: insaniak
Scarecrows... These were all slightly modified...
- The crouching one needed some slight 'tweaking' of the elbow joint to allow the arm to bend as far as I wanted it.
- The standing one on the left jest has the railgun on his shoulder tipped up into a 'standby' position... no actual modification of parts required there, I just glued it onto the back edge of the shoulder instead of the top.
- The guy in the middle has his railgun shifted from the shoulder to the left arm, which just involved slicing the left forearm off just below the elbow, and attaching the resultant stump to the end of the gun. Fairly simple to do.

99
Post by: insaniak
And the last one for the Epirians for the moment... a drone I've been having a play around with.
I'm calling this a 'Scorpion Drone'... It's not game-legal (but totally should be! ), just a bit of fun. Made the tail by chopping down a Scarecrow's chemical sprayer and adding a chaingun from a Hunter.

99
Post by: insaniak
Moving on - Karists!
Mostly stock, although pointing guy has a sculpted finger, and the guy on the far right has some resculpting of the left arm and hand.
Angels -
My first assemble test... I shifted the legs around a little to give him some motion, and reshaped the left arms a little so I could get both of them on there, just, you know, because. The bodies on these guys are supposed to be fluid and variable, and so I wanted to really reflect that in the posing.
Second Angel - a little more extreme... I was aiming for a little more of a 'shambling, but deadly' pose on this one, so I trimmed down and repositioned the legs. And to make him look even more deadly than normal, I gave him all four arms by reshaping his back a little.
Third Angel... very work in progress...
And some Minnows. I pictured these guys flitting about around the bigger angels, and so wanted some real motion in their posing. So I swapped the wings around a bit rather than pairing them. Took a little bending to make them fit, and a couple of them need the rearmost membranes replaced with putty, but I think they fit the bill.

Yeah, the Hunters are one of my favourite models from the range.
Although the sheer range of possibility opened up by the Angel kit, through being plastic and representing a creature whose form can shift at will, is quite awesome as well

Post by: Azazelx
I'm not a fan of the big gribbly (just as I was never a fan of the original Carnifex) but you've done very well on those minnows. It would have improved their look (and feedback) no end if they came like that as a kit as yours are much more dymanic.
Test paint Karist looks good. An almost comic-book scheme, reminds me of Deadpool a bit.

Nice work reposing there. Why did you choose to replace the gatling barrels?
99
Post by: insaniak
The original barrels sucked... Aside from being fiddly to assemble at the best of times, I had originally bought two different ands for him. When I decided to make him into a Mortis, I found a couple of assault cannon arms on ebay, which turned out to be slightly shabby recasts. The rest was usable, but the barrels and the underneath brace piece were just to misshapen, so had to be replaced. I doubt that they'll want to add any further 'official' units to the game right now, but I'm starting to collect a few converted bits and pieces like that guy and the 'scorpion' drone that I think will be fun to create some homebrew rules cards for when I get some time to sit down with the rules.
I'm picturing the jump guy as a solo character, whose normal role would be exploration and scrub clearing. In game, he would move as normal with the jump unit allowing him to make a powered boost over obstacles, or just to get extra range.
Or perhaps allow him to run normally, fire off his flamer and then boost back out of range...

And I have to say, I am just blown away by the detail on this kit. Some very cunning parts break-downs have allowed for an incredible level of detail for a plastic model, and the way he slots together means that most of the seams just disappear.
Very, very impressed, and I want to buy more of this guy just so I can build him a dozen different ways...

The problem with brass rod is that it bends. And I actually find it more obtrusive than chunkier clear stems, due to being solid.
As Lego pointed out, once the models are painted and on the table rather than featuring front-and-centre in a close-up photo, the flight stems will be much less distracting.

Assembled a unit of Firefly drones. Nothing particularly ground-breaking here... Swapped out the hex-bases for 25mm, for consistency, drilled some of them out so that they sit wonky on the flight stem, and added one of the 'spare' guns from the sprue into one drone as an antenna, to denote the squad leader in game.

That's actually really close to the default pose those guys were sculpted as too - I constantly get over excited when building them and put that blade arm pointing out, but it was designed to largely point down. Glad you noticed it works that way and built one that looks so good

How 'out of the box' are those Hunter poses? Can't really tell how much is conversion and how much is the kits themselves being very poseable. I'd heard good things, but the variety on there is remarkable if they're mostly stock (and impressive conversion work if I can't tell the difference! )

Aside from the missiles being moved around, there's a little conversion on the legs of some of them (adding extra bend to the knees or feet), and since slight fudging of the shoulder joints on the second running one that I did, but other than that they're pretty stock. Even with the legs being a single piece, the kit does allow a pretty decent range of posing options... It's a very cleverly designed model.

I love it. Did you simply make the Mando helmet out of a Karist trooper helmet? I might have to do this with some of my guys to give them that Neo Crusader feel
99
Post by: insaniak
It's actually a shaved down Tempest helmet, although with the amount that I had to hack it up, it probably would have been easier in the end to just use a normal Karist trooper head for it...
He's obviously not an exact match for that far away galaxy's most feared bounty hunter.... but that wasn't really the intention. Just wanted to see if I could make something that was reminiscent of a mando while still fitting the MEdge aesthetic.
Might have to tweak the gun a little, though... it's a little naff, as is.
99
Post by: insaniak
Started on a Karist support squad.
Hard to tell from this pic, but I replaced the energy canister on the squad leader's gun with the larger canister from a Tempest's gun, to represent the Mk2 version. It's subtle, but should do the job.

Yeah, the parts worked out well... It's hard to tell from that pic, but he actually has a Karist Trooper torso, rather than the Epirian one (also a Karist left arm) to give him a bit more of a rag-tag look. The Flagellant head has almost no neck, but his beard slots nicely over the top of the Karist torso's raised collar, so there was no need to sculpt extra neck
The volley gun fitting so nicely into his hand was a pleasant surprise, though. I was expecting to have to do some hand resculpting, there...
