Looking forward to seeing an update, PDH! Actually, I got all excited when I saw the activity here. All I got was Baiyuan giving you crap
do you know how many times that happens to my favorite threads?!?! although its not always Baiyuan.. only mostly
What's going on in here, Peter? When did your private campaign to psychologically force me into painting turn into a worldwide conspiracy? No need to agitate others to join your cause, I'm bromantic, it's either you or nobody.
Besides, go check my blog, I'm painting...
Damn I should have put Ghostflame's pics in my scavvy blog and passed it off as an update there. Damn why didn't I think of that the other day?!
Prime - I'm sorry that you thought there was an update.
Baiyuan - I'm thinking of asking the mods to put a vote on Dakka front page:
"Should Baiyuan..."
A Paint
B Paint
or
C Paint
edit - Björn you're a _ _ _ _ _ _ for conning me into thinking you were painting. Apparently pics or it never happened apply here on dakka
Ghostflame - Hmmmmm don't expect any picture update soon. I'm going Bivvying in the Peak District this weekend...in the snow
Oh so you want to know how the modelling is going?
I've started building the next three characters.
The Inquisitor is looking suitably elegant in her dress and powered carapace armoured torso.
The priest is getting a ton of green stuff at the moment with a hint of a flak vest and a double chin (very happy how this chap is turning out).
I've been building the Factotum using a Bret body that riseofthemagi kindly sent me, I cut the legs off and built the crazy head for the model using the peasant from the giant kit.
So that was the three steps forward....the step back is that I'm back to the drawing board with the factotum....more specifically I cannot get my conversion idea to work using the Bret body due to its size and pose. I'm now giving an empire archer a flak vest in the style of the Bret body.
As for pictures.......nope they really are not ready yet. (so it never happened)

Let me start for apologising for not checking out your threads sooner (i beat myself till I bleed ) I was told by Baiyuan to check your thread and I have to say I am glad he did there is some real amazing stuff here your converting skill eye for detail and painting is all inspirational (although I am green with envy).
I love your combination of medieval and 40k feel and the use of a muted pallet with just a hint of colour to catch the eye really amazing just one criticism do you have to be just dam good ……
And this guy is my favourite, the skulls on the back are amazing …… I hope you don't mind if I borrow that idea for my blood pact its just to dam cool not to use and after all it is a form of flattery
Cant wait to see more of your work Baiyuan thanks for hint
lone dirty dog - Don't beat yourself up they are only plastic models! Thanks though and Coop just came together but in turn I was inspired by John Blanche, the other GW artists and Foot of Tapes Witch Hunters http://footoftape.blogspot.com/2010/04/burn-witchand-such.html There is so much good inspiration out on the internet at the moment.
I have found these before but scattered over the net so good to have the link, as for beating myself will take that on board (sobbing quietly and licking my wounds)I just find that after seeing the amazing stuff out their I find myself wanting those skill's but I guess that comes with time and experience ……..
However with threads like yours and others here on dakka and the feedback I am sure this will speed up the process
Here's the deal Peter: As long as you make us wait for a pic of that priest, you're not getting to see pics of Samarianne. (Who btw has just been finished. In ya face...)
That's your move? Ok, I'll be less cheap and show you the whole thing instead of a foot. Quid pro quo!
What? It's the whole thing...a couple of weeks ago actually, but it doesn't matter.

Thats friggin awesome That shading around the armour is just amazing, the brush detail is outstanding you really have come on a long way with this Baiyuan ……. nearlly as long as the distance of the picture lol …..
Alright, this is getting silly. (wich is always appreciated ) More to the point: Where is my (and others) fix?! this is cruel and unusual punishment of innocent 3d party individuals! But we can play that game too..
So, either you both show us what we want or I will repaint one of my Alpha Legionaires as an ultra-smurf! Slobbily, with 3-mm wide highlights! And thick clumpy paints.
Then I will set it on FIRE.
And then (once Alpharius picks himself up from the floor and is feeling a tad better from his mild stroke) all bets are off.
Hehe, ok ok ok. Der klügere gibt nach! as we would say in german. (the cleverer gives in)
My intention was actually to force Peter into showing us his new goodies, but since he is a tough negotiator it will only result in me being stubborn and not releasing pictures of Samarianne, even though they are shot and edited now.
So before it does become a stalemate like LDD predicted head over to my blog, I'm lifting the embargo.

I'm expecting some sort of strip tease music with the final reveal now you've mentioned that Graven
I can't quite work out the base model... it's resin (of some sort) as it's too detailed for one of the plastic kits, but I can't seem to find a model that looks like it has those robes... very intrigued now
Scarper wrote:That is an impeccably sculpted foot. I can feel the religious fervor radiating from it. Amazing work, PDH!
that actually is a good foot.. and if the us and uk wernt seperated by water.. i would come for your head! but not to kill it, instead to see the rest!
This one was well and truly inspired by Blanche and his Alcove of Priests in the Emperor's Will book. Specifically the exhaust and the bionic eye in the shape of church window/alcove. Initially I tried sculpting the fur shawl like the chaos warriors cloaks but I just couldn't get it to work....so I did my best. Very happy with the flak vest under his robes and the random overflow pipe coming out of his back. Initially that was where the lasgun was going to be stashed but I felt having the overflow pipe was more fitting.
Now thats art, as to the fur I was about to ask your technique mine sucks and I liked how yours turned out, the bionic eye in the shape of an arch is a nice touch great Job.
I gather the bases are the teaser ……. Here we go again Ill get the tape deck and pole you bring the beer …….
Very nice! Your greenstuff work is really getting quite amazing and I think is developing a "look" that's uniquely yours. I think this fellow could use a =I= brand on the forehead, though.
lone dirty dog - You think the bases are the teaser!
The fur was thin GS cut to shape and then roughly indented in the appropriate direction with a dentists tool. Then worked from there. But credit where credits due http://blog.brushthralls.com/?page_id=1696
Cadaver - No I think his head will have REPENT cut into it.

Well I hope the bases are as we have seen the miniature now …… unless you mean paint never thought that far never paint mine
I liked the fur thought it had turned out well myself , I always thought it would be easy to sculpt but find it's a real pain the arse.
Thats some nice work dude...my guys are 3/5 built now...just a psyker and a rogue trader/wyrd to go...its a shame everyone is so spread out tho geographically would be awesome to actually play against some of these awesome characters!
Stunning Pete , truly great work . Your greenstuffing is nearly pro. Your work is always top calibre and very inspiring, what is the base cloth legs from ?
Wow, PDH, that is flawless! Almost worth the fat guy strip tease Your GS work is incredible - love love love the tunic / flak, how did you manage that?! Everything is so smooth - so impressed! I love all the cabling too: Zinge's stuff by any chance? I find guitar string such a pain to work with...
Awesome! Though I still think his foot is the best part.
Sorry for my absence, I've got sucked in by Jagged Alliance BIA.
Anyway, back on topic: Great work, Peter! You've outdone yourself resculpting the whole torso, this has to be the most invasive conversion you've shown us so far. I don't know whether your already splendid gs-skills improved yet again, or whether you just get more daring, either way I like it.
I also like the understatement of his weaponry and I immediately recognized the bionic eye from the agents of the throne book, nice touch.
P.S. You still owe me a detailed analysis on Samarianne, drunkard!
I know I don't leave many posts here, but I'm always keeping an eye out. Iv got to say, every time I do take a look through your work I'm never disappointed. It all has such a great grim dark feel to it, exactly how I picture the 40k universe. Great work, keep it up!
Scarper - Nothing was worth the fat man strip tease.
The padded flak was pretty easy actually. Flat sheet of GS on the chest area then with a wet scalpel gently imprinted the GSth the diamond pattern. Did them all in the same direction and then the other. When it was dry I put the robe edges in place and cut off the excess flak vest. Does that make sense?
You cannot go wrong with Zinge. Great product and customer service. His weapons are cool but the wire wrapped cables are immense!
lone dirty dog - Go with your gut every time! Besides I am pretty sure a few pages back I said what I was making him out of (I might be wrong). Very good point if you don't ask you don't get.....I'm not going to use them so sure thing. PM me your address
inmygravenimage - Yeah I love fiddling with papa Nurgle's buboes
Baiyuan - Cheers buddy. Well it is rather invasive but it is always the case of using the models that inspire me/give me the image I'm after rather than the complicatedness of the conversion.
PS - I did comment on her when sober ....in the wizard thread. When are you building her doggy?
Hits_the_spot - Thank you. It has to be grim dark or its just not 40k. I just realised that I check your thread out too but don't leave m(any) comments. I think I have gotten into the bad habit of just going through my subscribed list.

Sweet will PM you shortly yes gut reactions best to take note other wise you end up gaking ones self as for telling us what you were using I have had several beers since then
Ghostflame - The priest is on the painting table at the moment....but not much painting happening I'm afraid. This week I have not had the inclination which is annoying since I want to see the priest done.
I've been having fun with the priest this week. Almost done him as it happens. Need to do the ecclesiarchy corsesque, metallics, dirty up the purity seals and the bottom of the robes a bit.
Totally inspired by the Priest Alcoves in the Emperor's Will. Not at all happy with the photographs. But third attempt and I felt these are the best I can do. Perhaps it is the white on white. The robes are dirty and messy but I am really happy with the dark/light areas. Had to sculpt the edging onto the bionic eye while painting and the area is so small that I think it is a little crude. My favourite part is the parchment that says Purge. The wooden placard Redeem is meant to be crude.... I am so happy with the tiny Faith on top. Oh and those things hanging from his waist at the back are vials of holy water.
What is even better is that he looks perfect next to the Brute, Crusader and the Mutie Killer. I was worried as he is so much lighter than the other. The only bit I don't like about the model is the club foot...but hey ho.
This has turned out great stop beating yourself up the face has turned out fantastic and has real depth the features just jump out at you.
It has that real beaten look to him like he has been dragged through the depths of hell and still come out kicking ass.
The redeem looks great on the side and brings the wood effect out at the same time, the detail is great the vile's the chequered pattern it has been put together well
The only down side is the foot I have to agree from the side profile, looks like some kind of support boot ….. But it well could be after all.
Overall great job and the contrast of colours, the whit with the red and just the splash of others is great, if I could do half the job you do I would be happy
Excellent as usual.
I like the small range of colors you used. There could have been a little more contrast though, but then again I never have the balls to go for a small pallette.
I like the overall understatement on him, he looks like a humble servant of the throne, not too fancy, not too posh.
The only part I think draws too little attention is the small relic cabinet at his belt. That would have deserved a golden hinges and a pretty wood grain if you ask me.
LDD - Thanks...stop beating yourself up I've been hearing that a lot recently. Ah the checkers on the overflow pipe..I felt it needed a little extra colour. BTW I've not posted the speakers yet...but I've not forgotten.
Ghostflame - Ah the bionic eye. This project is pretty much a homage to the GW art department and JB so I'm really please with the bionic eye. But the rim was missing and adding that improved it imo. I'm gonna leave the base of the robe as is, since it is a dry dirt rather than wet dirt.
Imperial Monkey - Thank you, I shall try
inmygravenimage - The warding stave head was just perfect for an Ecclesiarchy Corsesque (which incidentally doesn't look a thing like a corseque). If you want to do corrosion nothing does it better than weathering powders...I've been well and truly converted.
Baiyuan - Glad he comes across as a humble imperial servant....that was my aim. The Inquisitor is hopefully going to be opulent and at odds with the rest of the current warband. In game terms that metal reliquary gives him 4 armour points to his crotch...no wood thank you. I'm going to add gold hinges though because that will add interest there, cheers.
(edit) Rogue Wolves - Cheers...well I just wanted those robed legs and oxygen tank....to turn into an exhaust.
So what just happened was, I stood up with such sudden force that my chair tipped over backwards. I violently pointed at my monitor over and over while yelling "YES! YES, THAT IS HOW IT'S DONE!" The ladyfriend gave me a strange look.
This guy is great. He's bursting with personality. One of the things I find hardest when painting faces is capturing their age. You've done an awesome job of making his skin look old and tired. Do you mind sharing your recipe? My absolute favorite part of this piece is the red ring under his eye. He looks so overwhelmed and weary, and yet his stance is still defiant. Really a beautiful piece. This will be in a museum one day, mark my words.
Flesh is something that I fear painting. I find it very difficult but since my scavvies and all the practice there I feel more confident. My recipe entails a mix of Tallern Flesh and Astro Grey, Depending on the skin tone depends on how much of each. In this guys case it was TF, AG and Vallejo Dark Flesh for a base, first highlight more Dark Flesh. Wash of Orgyn Flesh. Wash of Lev Purple, Badass Black thinned a bit. Then re highlight then consecutive highlights with Flat Flesh and Basic Skintone. Very thin Red Gore colouring round the eye. Very very very thin Asurman Blue and Badass Black wash over the head and the final highlight I added a little white to the skin mix. I used a double 0 and then a tripple 0 brush for the fine highlights.
I'd say more but that is the best praise I can give. It has the used future, high ornacy, multiplicity of tech levels, grubbiness, heroism and moral dubiousness in it that defines the term.
DexterKong wrote:So what just happened was, I stood up with such sudden force that my chair tipped over backwards. I violently pointed at my monitor over and over while yelling "YES! YES, THAT IS HOW IT'S DONE!" The ladyfriend gave me a strange look.

What was you watching on your monitor LOL
I totally agree the face contains so much character, the look of years and torment really flows through the pallet great job …
Did not want to ask if you had sent them out, but glad you have not forgotten got a really good use for them BIG THANKS AGAIN !!!!
lone dirty dog - It couldn't have been that good since his lady friend was with him.
monkeytroll - Copying and pasting is fine with me....it is nice to know people are looking and commenting.
I'll keep em coming. Abi is ill so our day trip to Skipton has been postponed. So I sorted out the body for the Priest's Factotum instead. It has been driving me mental for ages. But today I cut the Bret boby in two and stuck it to some Empire Archer legs. It has given me the pose I wanted I don't know why I didn't do it in the first place I also built the Autogun...which just needs a few strips of plasticard to integrate the parts together.
Well I'm back in work tomorrow and happily finished building my priest's man servant. Medically retired PDF trooper, who was destined for promotion due to his heroic actions until he received a severe head wound from a Feral Ork. Occasionally has visions of the Emperor and is now generally unhinged. Stowed away on a pilgrim ship etc joined a Frateris Militia, came to the attention of Sonerhud taken on as his man servant. So that is the basics and as soon as I thought about using the peasant in the giants hand he had to be somewhat crazy....look at those eyes.
The bionic jaw was necessary due to the angle of the head on the original model. I'll be adding some tied cloth to the flamer pipe as it looks somewhat plain (shamelessly stealing Jakob's ideas now ).
Great modelling as usual, Peter. I like him, quite creative use of parts.
Only (nitpicking) point of critique is the style and amount of his loadout. The gun for example is nice, but doesn't say servant of the ecclesiarchy to me. So without paint he looks a little too much like military to me, but I'm sure you'll paint him up to look like the lobotomized fanatic he's supposed to be.
neil101 - Thanks man. I'm pretty sure that productivity will tail off as I'm back in work tomorrow.
Baiyuan - good I'm glad he doesn't look like a servant to of the ecclesiarchy....they are not allowed men under arms! The autogun is something of a through back from his PDF/frateris militia days. I'm pretty sure the paint will help make him look somewhat ecclesiarchal but that is not the point since he is only a servant.
Ghostflame - I can't take credit for that look....Brian Nelson all the way (his stuff keeps cropping up).
He is being undercoated now and I'm going to see if I can have him painted before the Ammo Bunker Bash at WW on the 10th.
I really like the mix of parts and the greenstuff work you have done.
I think he looks like exactly you described him, an ex-pdf trooper gone fanatic and "renegade".
The gun I would personally have made more simple, special the magazine. I would have made the magazine ak-47 like.
Else just throw in a bipod.
PDH wrote:Baiyuan - good I'm glad he doesn't look like a servant to of the ecclesiarchy....they are not allowed men under arms! I think there is a misunderstanding. He does indirectly serve the ecclesiarchy doesn't he? In my book that makes him a servant of it. It's even in the (lexicanum) definition of the frateris militia:
The Frateris Militia are masses of the faithful gathered by the Ecclesiarchy to fight wars of faith against enemies of the Emperor and mankind. They constitute the unofficial and generally ill-trained troops who fight, indirectly, in the interests of the Ecclesiarchy. Although most such mobs consist of no more than faithful Imperial citizens, some "brothers" have had military experience in the Imperial Guard or a PDF. They make up for this general lack of military training with selfless fanaticism. In battle they are barely organised, except in huge mobs consisting of any number of militia brethren. Mobs vary from ordinary Imperial citizens incensed by Confessors to zealous self-sacrifice, to the already fanatical members of extreme Imperial religious sects. Such is the brethren's devotion and willingness for self-sacrifice, the more dangerous and desperate the fighting, the more likely they will fight to the death.
Now I do get your point though, you want him to still strongly reflect his PDF days and not make him look like a deacon, check. I initially didn't realize that was one of the core design aspects of this model. I assumed the focus was on "priest's servant". So consider my comment as confirmation of your design concept.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Btw The Escher simply call their man-servants "mervants", I always thought is a nice disrespectful touch. Of course I don't know what Sonerhuds and his (what's his name?) relation is like, but I guess it's not defined by a flat hierarchy.
Baiyuan wrote:Great modelling as usual, Peter. I like him, quite creative use of parts.

see now i think its the head that makes the biggest difference.. if he didnt have that crazy cool head, and the large book.
@PDH im loving this one, alot of character, nice details.. overall, just as great as is expected!
Man there is just no stopping you is there? Great concept, and you've executed it flawlessly. Before I even read your description, I looked at him and thought "this is some sort of drooling idiot being used as muscle".
My only critique at this point would be that he seems to be missing the back of his neck. A small bit of green stuff back there will fix it up right away.
I could go on and on about the things I like about it, but I think you're already well-aware that I'm in awe of your work. You're one of the best there is when it comes to Inq28.
Productive AND quality... the warbands/retinues you bring to play opponents... *ego deflates* The newest model is lookin' fantastic, but the newest highlight for me is that warpriest/fanatic guy with the double chin... you definitely nailed the aged-look of the guy.
Baiyuan - In my mind he is a servant to the priest not the ecclesiarchy, though I think that is a very fine distinction and if you asked him he would probably say eccesiarchy or Inquisition. I think your quote is correct too but he was part of a frateris militia. Which in my book are a temporary rabble of untrained fighters taken from lay followers in times of great need. (Blood of Martyrs is a great book). I don't imagine they are given a uniforms etc.and I know they arm themselves with whatever comes to hand rather than from armouries. Another point he is currently in a roundabout way employed by the Inquisition and I imagine he would probably have gotten his clothes and weapons from them.
But my main design concept was to make him look religious but not like a priest.
lone dirty dog - Cheers. He has seen too much...like the back end of a choppa.
Rogue Wolves - You're right I started off with the head and the book and worked from there.
DexterKong - I've had some time off work so I've had some time on my hands. No his next is all there the copper wire you can see are just cables running up the back of his neck. Oh and Dex I'm well and truly impressed by your work too, your priests were taken into account when I built mine.
endtransmission - Ha ha you're building an Imperial Guard army so don't blame me about going broke. The head is from the peasant being held by the giant
I really like the mix of parts and the greenstuff work you have done.

Sorry Gerner I blame Baiyuan distracting me with an interesting debate on background and concept. He is most definitely not renegade, definitely fanatic....and a little unhinged. Which makes him perfect company for a monodominant inquisitor.
Brian Nelson sculpted the Warhammer Giant kit that I took the head from. I only added a bionic jaw to fix where I cut his head off. The look in his eyes is all down to Brian Nelson sculpting it.
I think the gun is pretty cool and makes him look a little different, being my main purpose. This project is to showcase Inquisitor 28 and I didn't want to use just an autogun. The other way of looking at it is he is also in the employ of the inquisition and has access to their armoury. I'm not going to add a bipod since I think it would upset the balance.
What did you build the box mag from? I assumed you took the back of an umbra ferrox bolter and added the front of an autorifle, but having a closer look at it I can see it's the whole rifle with the mag added. It sure looks like an umbra ferrox mag.
@Gerner: How would adding a bipod contribute to make the gun simpler? Now understanding what Peter tried to achieve I think the gun reflects his ties to the inquisition quite well. It shows access to a certain level of equipment, that I didn't expect to begin with, but it makes sense. Adding a bipod would imo take away from the deranged veteran vibe. I would expect him rushing in with his big box of boom instead of lining up his shot using the bipod. Don't know exactly how much damage he took from his rendezvous with the ork, but he doesn't look like the considerate type he probably used to be anymore.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also I really have to play against your gangs one day, Peter. If I ever make it to the UK for the GD we have to make it happen.
Björn is would give me nothing but pleasure to have a game of Inquisitor with you against your Warband. I'd want to take pictures and do a battle report too.
By build I meant the whole gun out of parts not just the mag. You were spot on with umbra ferrox bolter with the barrel, rear bit and the gun sight removed. The barrel is from a renegade militia autogun I had left over from the kit.
PDH wrote:Sorry Gerner I blame Baiyuan distracting me with an interesting debate on background and concept. He is most definitely not renegade, definitely fanatic....and a little unhinged. Which makes him perfect company for a monodominant inquisitor.

No worries it wasn't so hard to ask again.
What I meant with renegade was more the line of redemptionist.
One who have given up the normal look up on the Emperor (may he live forever), and taken on a new, more fanatical path. (not in the chaos speaking renegade).
Arh, thanks for clearing that up.
I wasn't sure if he worked for the inquisition or just a fanatic cult.
In my opinion the gun could use a decrease in size or an addition of a bipod as it looks to unwieldy without any support, as it have no real stock and the bullets looks "big".
I think the bipod would add to the balance of the model, but it is really your call.
Remember the rest of the model is still jaw-dropping and I am only trying to help and come with suggestions.

It would make it simpler in the purpose that it would look more like a saw gun and less like an oversized assault rifle. I think it would create more balance and sense.
I can see your point, but it would be normal if the gun have a bipod, and you could still run forward blazing with it.
PDH wrote:Anyone got any ideas how to paint dried blood?
Completely dry? I'd just use a strong brown, maybe with a hint of red and black and let the pattern do the rest. Fresh blood is really easy to identify, dried blood can easily be mistaken for mud, so the blood pattern has to be on point.
Gerner - Hmmm the bullets are actually air vents to keep the smaller bullets inside cool I hadn't considered that the mag had bullets on the side really.
Baiyuan - That was what I was worried about. The blood I was after is going on the flail/flagellant whip hanging from his waste. It is too small for splatter like that. The blood will have to be reasonably fresh.
King Thor - Thanks. I did the robes something like this from a black undercoat. Astro Grey base coat to cover the black. Astro Grey + Ghost Grey and then a thin washes of Desert Yellow, Dev Mud and Griffin Sepia. Then in the deep recesses and where it seemed right I used a thinned mix of Black Ink +Brown Ink + Green Inks .
Then came the highlighting which started off as Codex Grey + Ghost Grey + a little Grave Yard Earth. Highlight with added Ghost Grey. For the final few highlights I also added a little bit of white to the mix.
The splatter shouldn't be the problem. Cut a small hole into a piece of paper and place it over the club, then take a toothbrush (either an old one or somebodyelse's) and sprinkle your blood paint from some distance. Makes nice fine droplets, that look more accurate than painted ones.
For the blood itself I'd either use old citadel inks (a mix of red, brown and chestnut) or my new method tamiya clear red with a hint of brown and black (if you let it dry a little before applying it, it clumps and you get some gory chunks).
Hey PDH! Do you by any chance have a pot of tamiya clear red? You can get some fantastic blood effects with it pretty easily - this technique and this one both produce some really good results!
I really love your factotum - would never have even considered that head myself, but you've really made it work - he looks the part. Great kitbashing with the rifle, and I really like the GS peasant robes. Really original warband, really inspiring. Wish some people round my end played =I=!

Hey Scarper - Those tutorials just swayed me, I'll see if I can get some this morning on the way to the super market. Sometimes the modelling shop is open on Sundays sometimes it isn't.
Wish some people round my end played =I=!
I'm going to Edinburgh in the summer with Abi (she can go shopping or something) and I'll come round to your for a game. Man as much as I want to do that I think she would actually kill me,

She will find a reason to kill you any way, so have a bit of fun and deserve it lol
Scarper great find there will be investing in some myself
Tamiya clear red has been a must-have for every painter for years now, hasn't it? A tutorial with better pictures you can find over at Massive Voodoo, they are the best and not just because I've met them in person. http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.com/2010/05/tutorial-how-to-paint-blood.html Beware mediocre, yet comprehensible translations.
I'm thinking about adding a purity seal to the autogun hanging next to his right hand and one on the front of the drum mag. Both locations have some damaged resin details which I didn't really notice until they got some paint. I think it will add a little more detail to those rather plane areas.
Cheers Northen glad you like him.
Baiyuan - I think I must be living under a rock. Plus I'm not normally a fan of blood splatter. Unfortunately the model shop was shut....but I'm off work on Friday so I'll pick some up while I'm there. I'll also be getting some plasticard to have a go at finishing off the floors on my nercomunda buildings. My Inquisitor will be a treat for when I've finished the scenery.
I also need some help as I'm stuck. I'm looking at arming my Inquisitor with a power sword. But I'm stuck for an Imperial sword that looks delicate enough for her to carry. I want something similar in size to a dark eldar power sword but with an Imperial feel - straight edges. Has anyone got any suggestions?
I would check out the Empire range, especially the Greatswords and Empire General sets. The General in particular has a very nice sword that looks downright slender next to the enormous cleavers you typically see on GW models, and of course it's plastic so you can easily cut off the blade at the grip and file it down if you need to shorten it.
I think you'll like tamiya red, it's a really weird paint. Smells godawful, and genuinely seems to coagulate if you leave it to air too long. Can't really think what else you would use it for tbh - I'm still not convinced that they're not killing off excess Tamiya staff to make it...
If you're willing to risk a little bit of spouse rage, I'd definitely be up for you dropping by! I'm sure you could find some kind of reliable alibi for a few hours - I happen to have some contacts at the hospital...
I think I've got a FW cadian sergeant power sword I'm not using, if you need it - the thing's so slender it pretty much snaps if you look at it! PM me your address, and I'll see if i can dig it out
Automatically Appended Next Post: EDIT: going to have to retract that, I'm afraid - can't find the damn thing! I do have a power sword from the cadian command sprue though if you need it. It usually comes attached to a bionic arm. It's quite long, but really slender, and you could probs clip it a little shorter quite easily!
Automatically Appended Next Post: EDIT EDIT: Being a moron, should probs go to bed. Just found the FW one - on a ganger I was making ages ago and eventually abandoned. Hence up for scavenging and still up for grabs! It has a rather ornate handle, and is attached to a Right hand. Hope that's useful
Gerner - By straight I meant a curved blade like Dark Eldar/Dark Elves swords
Scarper - Very kind offer on the sword. Thank you. As above I think I've found the sword I want. I really appreciate the offer. What was/went wrong with the abandoned mini? I might pack Abi off to her Aunts for the evening on her own then / alternatively you could come up with a cocktail of drugs that will knock her out for 12 hours.
prime12357, Capitansolstice. I've got Isabella and I'll actually be using her head for the Inquisitor. Her sword as Ghostflame mentions is super tiny and I think a little too short. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Yo B - I hope so since I think the Inquisitor should be the centre of attention. I'm more annoyed that I did a scarper. There I was rummaging through my bits box for half an hour for the Dire Sword to no avail. Then remembered my Swooping Hawk Exarch is armed with the spare. I might pull one off my Dire Avenger Exarch since I never use it because twin shuriken catapult is so much better, Either that or find a bits site with one in stock so I can turn it into a combi-handflamer.
Hey Q0rbin. To get the right feel for 40k I think you need to add the fantasy element. I've read something recently that the aim of 40k was to have a fantasy game in space rather than a sci-fi game. As for painting the latest chap he and I are at my painting table at the moment and I really do hope to have him finished for the Ammo Bunker Bash at WW on saturday. His face is proving a bit tricky and I really wish I had left it and the book to be painted separately.
Well I have finally gotten round to posting some background for this warband. I've started with my two favourite characters. The other four are in my head at the moment and I'm struggling to write them up so I'm hoping this will help me pull the words out.
Planetary Governor Daven Kel-Rosber (Deposed)
Planetary Governor Daven Kel-Rosber was once one of Benadice’s most despised enemies. He is now one of her most faithful followers, through no choice of his own. Benadice’s investigation into the Govenor took seven long years, for even she needed proof of his ties to countless crimes. The corpulent Planetary Lord sequestered tithes from the Imperium, dealt illegally in unsanctioned psykers and in both ruinous and xenos artefacts. All these blasphemies were done to increase his vast wealth and excessive lifestyle.
When Benadice deposed him publically and mercilessly, in his throne room it sent a pious ripple through the nobility within the sub sector. Bound in chains Kel-Rosber was removed from his palace and made to walk shamed and naked to the Ecclesiarchy Cathedral. Here he was placed within the vast dungeons, to await his final punishment upon the witch hunter’s pyre. During his incarceration his allies bribed guards to move the governor to another cell, whose occupant was not expecting a death sentence. Unbeknown to the conspirators the guards moved the Governor to a cell whose occupant was awaiting a fate, possibly, worse than death – arco-flagellation.
Part way through the procedure Benadice discovered the switch and interrupted the surgery. Benadice instructed the surgeons to save the governor, as best they could, to face his fate. Upon completion of the surgery the governor was all but a mind wiped combat engine. Deciding that the governor could be put to better use as a penitent and deterrent, to other high powered individuals, Benadice added him to her retinue. Benadice has since used arco-flagellation as a punishment for many nobles found wanting in the eyes of the Emperor.
Mister Coop Eustis
Mister Coop Eustis is the most recent addition to Benadice’s Retinue. Eustis was born on the feral world of Aglea, in the shanties on the steep sides of the ruined Hive Singuli, known locally as The Spike. These communities sprang up round The Spike for claimers to live in relative safety, from the terrors of the wastes and the abnormalii of the spike. The claimers eked out a living reclaiming useful materials from the ruined hive.
His parents lived through the catastrophe that destroyed the hives, seeing it as a punishment from the Emperor, gave Eustis a profoundly religious and pious upbringing. Eustis’ parents had him run errands for the mendicant priest who journeyed from shanty to shanty, preaching the deliverance through the Emperor. Eustis and the priest became connected as pupil and tutor and whenever the priest arrived Eustis would be at the temple door seeking his spiritual guidance. At the age of fourteen Eustis’ father started taking his son on expeditions into The Spike and it became clear that Eustis was a natural for navigating the twisted paths of The Spike. Taking after his father it became clear that the boy could also identify and track the movements of the abnormalii infesting the crippled ruin. His father trained him with the skills to become an excellent claimer and as he met adulthood he was set to make his living as his father before him, fate had differing ideas.
One night the abnormalii raided the settlement, overcoming its defences and pillaging the stores, killing countless folk and crippling the settlement. The next morning the Eustis was found wounded and unconscious, outside the desecrated temples, amongst the corpses of his family and the priest. The survivors took him with them across the wastes to the next shanty, giving remedial treatment to his injuries. After the grief subsided Eustis started working as claimer but was soon promoted to work gang guard, protecting the claimers from roving abnormali. Eustis found further employment with the trackers, who go into the hive and seek out groups of abnormalii to destroy. As the others on the tackers wasted their wages on drink and women, Eustis saved and bought better equipment from the travelling guilders. Soon he split off from the trackers and hired himself out to the highest bidder.
Inquisitor Benadice employed Eustis to guide her into the bowels of The Spike, in search of a rogue psyker, planning on using the denizens of the hive to bring further ruin to Algea. After successfully completing her mission Benadice offered Eustis permanent employment as one of her agents. With his pious upbringing Eustis readily accepted and has found a place in her vanguard.
neil....for the next fantasy element I'm thinking sequinned bikinis right?
I tend to agree, but for me it depends on a couple of things.
40k obviously is all about that gothic theme when it comes to mankind and the whole idea of scientific and cultural deprivation/loss is of course an vague adaption of the middle ages. So you're absolutely right, it's not your everyday sci-fi, more like space knights. (I've heard rumours about GW having an idea for knight-like warriors who fight for mankinds salvation in a crusade...just kidding, ridiculous idea)
But just talking about everybody's favorite topic, the inquisition, for me it widely depends on the ordo and whether your Inq is puritan, thorian, horusian or whatever.
Hereticus has that vibe of medieval witchhunting and the actual spanish inquisition.
Malleus has a lot more of that whole religious vibe and if you can't picture your Inq working in some crypta at the vatican maybe you went wrong somewhere.
Xenos on the other hand should be a lot more like normal sci-fi, especially for an inquisitor who's open to the heretical/benefitial influence of the xenos. If your Inquisitor is the hate-all-xenos-and-I-don't-like-your-face-type I'd go for a Leonardo Da Vinci vibe.
So if fantasy in the future means different stages of human history in space, I agree. If it means medieval stuff in space I beg to differ.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Great background Peter, maybe you should try to provide it right when you present your latest miniature. It really enhances the way I perceive your characters. For example I thought Eustis to be mutated himself, as in mutie tracker, not tracker of muties. And the former govenour got so much cooler, just by knowing what he is.
Just got back from a good day out at Warhammer World attending the Ammo Bunker Bash. Met John Blanche which was fantastic and got to have a looksee at his gorgeous illustrations and models. Had a look at Migsula's Shades Offe Grey Imunda gang too, so different in the flesh... obviously still amazing though. Also got to have a game of Inquisitor. You'll all be happy to know that the Governor cannot hit a thing (read MarcoSkoll's feral worlder) with his chain axe .
I managed to get Factotum Erexaus Parnor finished Friday evening to take him down with me.
My favourite bit is the orange diamond on the fuel tank.
Absolutely shattered and cannot type any more.... off to bed.
Sounds like you had a fantastic day. I'm quite jealous. As for the governor not hitting anything, it's becoming a running gag in my group that my mate's rather thick bodyguard cannot hit anything with anything, barring some sort of cosmic alignment As for the paint, It's bloody brilliant. He really looks unhinged now. The only thing I can suggest to change is to dull down the red of the purity seals. The bright red strongly opposes the rather muted greens and earthtones of the rest of the model, which I find a little distracting.
EDIT: All the textwork on the book and scrolls looks really good too
wow he looks great pdh, i really like the added color choices on this one!(and i can agree that i just love that orange diamond! dont know why, just do)
Peter the level of detail on this guy is awesome! The tome on his back, the highlighting on the autogun and yep the diamondy bit too...all top notch mate!
He's not my fav character of yours but def one of your best painted models in my opinion...I don't know why, but I was expecting him to be a ginger?! Haha
Baiyuan - Great background Peter, maybe you should try to provide it right when you present your latest miniature. It really enhances the way I perceive your characters. For example I thought Eustis to be mutated himself, as in mutie tracker, not tracker of muties. And the former govenour got so much cooler, just by knowing what he is. I agree with you but the models are ready before the background is written. I'll see if I can have it all finished and posted with the Inquisitor though. The Governor might be getting a bit of a re write though and instead of partial arco flag he might be suffering from Death Masking. It was mentioned somewhere or other about Eccliesiarchy punishments and Mol suggested it and I really like the idea.
prime12357 - Oh it really was good day. I really don't want the Governor to be a joke though. Admittedly he did go up again a character with a high WS and a better reach weapon.
The seals are the same colour as the rest of the groups, which ties they all together. If they are too bright above I will blame photographing red.
Rogue Wolves - Cheers
Ghostflame - Red Hair does not = crazy. Thanks bud.
Oh he looks cool! congrats on meeting mr blanche , and i hope you had a good time at warhammer world. havent had achnce to read your fluff yet , but will get round to it. ;-)
Erexaus Parnor turned out awesome! I have to agree, the orange diamond is my favorite part too, but I also think you did a fantastic job on his face, the book, and his clothes. Keep it up, man, you're a huge inspiration.
Peter, I really like the background you've written for these fellows. Baiyaun is right, it really adds a lot to getting a feel for the character. I'm eagerly awaiting the stories for the rest of your pieces.
Oh, and you along with the rest of the =I=munda nuts around here are making it real hard on a guy trying to rebuild a 40k army. I see work like this and just want to rush back to work a Necro gang.
PDH wrote:Just got back from a good day out at Warhammer World attending the Ammo Bunker Bash. Met John Blanche which was fantastic and got to have a looksee at his gorgeous illustrations and models. Sounds like a blast of a day!
Wish I could have been there and meet some new faces and look at all those beautiful minis!
Maybe next year?
That is also quite a paint job you pulled on him, lovely done.
I'm not sure I would have painted the gun with shadow grey myself, but it balance the model nicely.
I would call him a masterpiece.
Very good paintjob as usual!
Lots of colors, but still somehow not too busy.
Color choice for his clothes and armor is spot on and really translates the character's background into the flesh.
Interesting color for the gun, daring, but it looks the part.
I'm not that fond of his skintone though. Considering what subtle effects you apply to skin lately, there is a chance it's the photography's fault, but his face looks a bit boring. I would have liked his face more with a slight blush. For me a more vital look would have added to the simpleton vibe. Or go the other direction and give him proper eyerings.
Neil - Seeing his collection of illustrations in the flesh was something else. I've seen them on gothic punk and they are cool. Seeing them up close was so much better.
LDD - Cheers I love that diamond. It was definitely a moment. I've just checked again and they are definitely the same colour as everyone else.
Moltar - I will try. The next month is all about terrain though.
Cadaver - Hey Dude. I guess I'll get that feeling when I start my Guard Army later this year or early next year. Yes a Guard army from a guy who has painted 5 models in the last 8 months! Actually now that I've stopped bullying Björn about finishing his pimped wizard...and I really liked the WIPs I saw of yours...finish her bitch I'm not really kidding but didn't want you getting offended
Gerner - Maybe next year. It was definitely a good day out. Though not enough time and too much to do. I wanted the gun to have a utilitarian look. The grey also broke up the browns. Since he isn't issued equipment in the same way as say a guard the flamer and the auto just had to be different colours.
dsteingass - It really was.
Baiyuan - Cheers buddy. I was so worried about the colours and it really didn't work until the edging to the shoulder cloak thingy was painted on. As I said before the gun was really to break up the browns. I found the face to be very difficult to paint but it looks good enough. The eyes have no lids which was very odd. The colour fits the other all theme but I think a couple of very thin blue glazes under the eyes might help. I didn't want to go for a blush as it doesn't fit into my mind image.
HF - Hey man. your feeling was right II play Inq28 with these guys. Cheers about the model and as I was saying to ghostflame this is how I do text:
Text on parchment is very much a tiny brush and NOT using straight black paint. Pure black is too harsh and will "puncture holes" in the model. I use a mix of black and scab red (dark brown) thinned down to a consistency I can work with. Not a wash but on the way there. Then the important bit when writing the text don't make all the words the same length and try not to have spaces all under each other (not as much of a problem purity seals since). Look at this paragraph for example.
Imperial Monkey - The Governor is my favourite too....though Parnor is getting up the board especially after he shot his autogun on full auto for two actions...ah twenty shots that hit nothing.
--------------------
Now under the spoiler is a very WIP shot of the inquisitor. I need to get a Dire Sword for her... to convert into a combi hand flamer!!! I think I'll be removing her arms and replacing them with Dark Eldar ones too. I love her massive 80's shoulder pads but the arms don't seem to be in the right place for her walking.
Yup, pretty much what I was expecting. An awesome paintjob on an awesome model. I can't help but be envious about you meeting Blanche and seeing his work in person. Did Molotov make it over there as well?
Your Inquisitor is looking really good. I'm interested to see what you do with those skulls in her dress. Lot of potential there for different conversion directions. And this dire sword/combi-flamer is sounding VERY cool!
Dexter - It was such a good day out. I got to meet Molotov too and watch him have a game of Inq. It was very nice meeting him and seeing his models too. I'm looking forward to seeing if I can pull the sword/handflamer combi weapon off too.
Sageheart - Well only one more model to get to the table...but eight COD buildings, three nerco buildings, 20 scale oil barrels, three chem storage tanks to build or paint in a month and a bit.
PDH wrote:Ghostflame and Scarper - Guys you're both rubbish! It wasn't as hidden as you think it is! Look for spoilers!
Mate nothing gets past me! Haha I think I actually saw it when you had just uploaded it but before you'd posted it on here. Naturally asumed it was something I'd missed.
I'd camp outside your house if I thought I could get a sneak peek of what ya up to in there...just as long as it isn't more 'fat man' stripping! *shudder*
Baiyuan - Indeed you got all the parts right. I wish her torso was finecast or plastic though. So what do you think?
prime12357 - You're forgetting the metric ton of purity seals, psiocculum and and the parts to make the dire sword into a combi handflamer.
Dexter - The skull are probably staying with some chains added up to her crotch area. Or going completely which might make more sense. Either way it is finecast and great for conversions.
All the buildings are now Badassed Blacked. Now they need Devlan Mudding. So by the end of Thursday I should have dry brushers elbow.
Not sure how many of you visit Molotov's Inq28 blog but I think this post is well worth a look. A showcase of KrautScientist 's excellent and inspiring Inquisitor Warband.
No worries, more INQ28 stuff is on the way, here on Dakka and on my blog. Just have to get a couple of posts out of the way first, but then...yes, then...
Peter, once again: Looking very much forward to more progress on Inquisitor Benadice!
Found your Governor in the gallery awhile back and I just needed to find the plog to match. Very inspiring work here. Tip of my hat, very excited to see more!
Very WIP Inquisitor, tacked together for a general look at her pose. The sword in her right hand will be getting replaced with a powersword/hand flamer combi weapon. The bolt pistol is from FW Renegade Militia Enforcers. I got rid of the skulls handing near her feet too, much better now.
Any suggestions for a subtle power generator on her back?
She's looking good. I was eyeing up that vamp for a very similar conversion, though I'd not thought of outright replacing the body. Look forward to seeing her progress.
endtransmission - Thanks. I hadn't considered replacing her torso until I got the vampire model and realised she had a god awful face/head and too much hair to trim off. Found celestines torso (how I wish she was finecast). Then they released Isabella who had the perfect head.
inmygravenimage - got a few sentinals hanging about....I shall have a looksee. Cheers
LDD - I'm not sure actually. She will have a =I= on her right shoulder pad and another little one between her armoured boobs. Lots of purity seals down her dress.
In fact if anyone has any suggestions on how to debattlesister her torso it would be a great help?
I actually like the current-sword in her hand. It "suits" her, moreso than her hefting the standard broadsword-type power weapon. Although, if you're doing to flamer-combi weapon... I think that'll suit as well.
Lookin' great, through! Can't wait to see a paint job on her as well!
PDH wrote:LDD - I'm not sure actually. She will have a =I= on her right shoulder pad and another little one between her armoured boobs. Lots of purity seals down her dress.

Give us a close up of it and I will have a think although do you want the =i= between her chest or underneath them
I think you need to 40k her a little maybe some Kind of power pack even if a small one, how about smoothing some of the ruffles at the back a little.
I know this does not add anything but might help it seem less busy and more battle ready, I would like to see some kind of =I= relic hanging from her waste myself and maybe a holster
The thing is not to over load her as the style and look is so great, so don't add or adjust to much IMO
Beautiful work so far. Loving the mix of bits you've chosen, and as always I'm doing my best to stay focused on what I'm doing with my current work-in-progress and not fly off on a tangent and attempt to re-create one of your masterpieces (which it looks like this will doubtlessly be).
To de-SoB her, you've already taken the major step of removing the fleur-de-lis from her shoulder and gorget. The only extra step I can think to recommend at this point would be to remove the ribs running vertical on her boobs, since that's a pretty consistent feature with the SoBs.
You seem to have done a really flawless job removing the skulls from within her dress. Did you carve them out with your knife, or bore them out with a dremmel tool?
I really like the idea and her posing, but I feel that her upper body and shoulders are a little too large for the rest of her frame, and are pulling her out of proportion. As for a backpack generator, I've used the coils from a plasma pistol a few times, and that seems to work pretty well. I'll be looking forward to see how this one turns out.
She'd look pretty cool with one of the Cadian hazardous packs. I might have a spare torso kicking around.
I think the SoB corset part fits nicely with the big dress and bustle, but I'd look at up-armouring the breasts and throat area a bit so that it fits more with the massive shoulders.
I'm also thinking that the leg armour needs to be smoothed out a bit as it's too sharp and angular compared to the smoother flow of the SoB armour plates
Looking very nice, Peter! You did a great job in combining pieces from different models into something that looks like it was meant to belong together in the first place! Extra kudos for building a female Inquisitor (Inquisitrix?!) - I think that's quite a bit harder to pull of than the male version!
Good, but I'm sure it will all come together much better once finished/painted. I welcome the weapon swap, the sabre somehow doesn't work for me, couldn't say why.
For the backpack, if needs to be really small and subtle you could copy what I did on Samarianne: Greyknight Apothecary tubes with cabling cut of and some GS added. The hazard cadians have very nice backpacks, but I think it would dominate the model too much.
Glad to see everything's been going smoothly in my absence
Excellent work on the 'loon with a gun', and the inquisitrix is coming together nicely. Maybe an old wolf scout pack for her back? Probably got one kicking about somewhere if you're interested.
Wow Monkey troll and barrels , the group shot of the barrels is cool , mate.. just need some destroyed ones now as explosion markers.. and some puddles ..
great to see you posting again monks
Edit oops wrong thread well the lady looks fine too , yarrick has a cool back pack to power his claw..
Remi - The combi sword is going to be ace. Making it from a Dire Sword and a little flamer from the FW Servo Skulls. I'll be adding a fuel tank to her back (along with a power pack)
LDD - The little =I= will be in the middle, between them. The riffles on the back of her skirt are thigh bones She will definitely have a few thinks hanging around her waist just not sure what yet. Probably no holster since it would be too big....dammed massive bolt pistols!
Dexter - You want me to remove her ribs like Prince? Good idea that, I might try and up armour the lower section/half of her boobs and give the impression of it showing off her armoured cleavage. I dremmeled the skulls out, finecast is so good to convert/cut up.
Prime - The large shoulder pads and torso is easily explained...its think armour. I'm happy with it as her actual shoulder look to be in the right place.
Ghostflame - The combi sword weapon will be a Dire Sword and a little flamer from the FW Servo Skulls. I'll be adding a fuel tank to her back (along with a power pack) so it doesn't make the sword ridiculously big.
Gerner - Cheers
endtransmission - Thanks for the offer but I have some hazard gear cadians, to be made into storm troopers, in my bits chest for next years project* I 'll have a look and see if it works. I think I might try and add a few angles to her torso rather than smooth out her leg.
KrautScientist - Cheers. Yes she has been hard, hence her being the last in the group to be made. The problem is the lack of good female parts...though a few have come to light recently.
Baiyuan - I agree about the weapons swap....you don't get much more imperium of man than by strapping two weapons together. Ok stealing her backpack might actually work for me. Knowing you it is about 200 parts....give us a list of the 198 Samarianne rear shot http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/327883-.html?m=2 . Though I'm still keeping my options open since she is no where near finished yet.
inmygravenimage - cheers dude, thanks. But I imagine that the GK shoulder pads would be way too big.
monkeytroll - Hey dude. It has been running smoothly but its good that you're back. You're the second person to suggest the wolf backpack but I'm not convinced by it....too space marine I think....besides I'd just turn the sensor into a shoulder mounted cannon
neil101 - lol dude....to much forumage will leave you posting in all sorts of places.
PDH wrote:

If you're just talking about the backpack, it's quite simple in this case: The backpack is the set of vials that come with the grey knight apothecary. Cables cut off, sculpted a top to integrate into her armor and done.

Really loving the loon and the background the Female Inquisitor is looking good reminds me off a few of the characters from the DH book. It's the corset and fangs combo I reckon
The deposed governor is incredible. I like that model anyway but your conversion of it just brings it to a whole new level! So perfect. Love the guy with the auto gun and all the purity seals too. So much character!
Looking forward to seeing how the new inquisitor turns out...
Turns out I've done ok with the armour plates. Now they are dry and filed they are the right size and shape.
Baiyuan - I know what you mean
lone dirty dog - Never going to happen. Small and pert
Llamahead - I've been heavily inspired by the Dark Heresy books. But it is difficult not to be since the DH books are probably the only ones with imperial noble women in.
jackanory - You'd not seen him...must have been something to do with you being sucked into a parallel Victorian universe. Cheers dude this group have been a labour of love. One more to go and the first half of the group are complete. Then I want to add a sanctioned psyker, Black Guard, 2 eccliesiarchy servitors, Female Arbitrator, wild west style hired gun and possibly an imperial guardsman. But those guys can hang on for some more necromunda goodness.
inmygravenimage - which is such a relief because a lot of sculptors think bigger is better. Or ridiculous is better. I'm of the opinion less is more.
Totally agree even if women have large breast they strap them down with sports bras so they don't bounce around even though that's a shame
So in reality they would never be that over imposing, although when it comes to female vampires they should have large succulent breasts as they always do in the movies
I'm sorry, but women that are soldiers, fighting for their whole lives would not have large breasts (which all sci-fi women seem to have, along with very slim waists). Breasts are simply fat, if you are exercising alot then the fat of them will reduce, that is why sportswomen (eg. athletes, swimmers) don't have large breasts. It seems more probable for all these sci-fi figs that they have had lots of breast implants, which would just be pointless in the battlefield. Besides military food in 40k can't be great considering how many they have to feed so i'd say that smaller boobs on female figs would actually be more realistic.
That said, with an inquisitor, having breast implants to make them larger might become useful in negotiation....
LDD - Your post was going so well and then ...............................
Imperial Monkey - No breast implants here. Just some armour in the style of a ball gown....
Here are some further wips....
First one with her cherub on a separate base (fantastic little sculpt).
Then inspiration hit me as I was taking the above picture....
Now I much prefer this...I think it looks great whispering in her ear. Now this I suppose creates some problems in game...but then I didn't really want to use the cherub in game anyway. So it is particularly shy and cowardly and whenever there is any fighting it will hide behind her etc.
Does it look better on her shoulder? Though I think I've made up my mind.
I like the character it brings to the whole sculpt while it's perching on her shoulder, so I'd leave it. The ballroom gown/armor idea is a great one, and is (as always, damn you!) perfectly executed. The purity seals are a nice touch too
Well, besides the breasts debate (bigger always better but unfortunately unrealistic ) the model is looking superb, the model is really jelling together and the extra work has paid of the corset armour ROCKS !!!
As for the cherub I like it on the shoulder but think for practical reason (as in movement ) could create a few issues, depending whether it is pinned or not
Hows the back pack going or have you nocked it on the head
I had slipped through the breach but the Necro40k-verse is inspiring me more - modelling wise - at the moment.
Love the little cherub there. Really "Blanche-ian"! I'm sure you'll back it up with an awesome paint job.
Vitruvian XVII - bionic eye smionic eye. That my friends is the base work for a psi-occulum. I'm thinking three lenses should do the trick.
prime12357 - Cheers. Perched is such a good word to use with a cherub.
monkeytroll - I had to change the SOB corset, even just a little, to make her less sisterly.
dsteingass - Dude I wouldn't buy one with bazooka boobs Hmmmm female oblitorator conversion
KrautScientist - Thanks man....no don't encourage the breast convo...or it'll turn into female fisherman's jumpers.
lone dirty dog - Don't mention the backpack/vent thing....tis a dirty word that stalled my progress. I'm leaving it until last and hoping inspiration will slap me silly. Oh everything is pinned...even plastic conversions are pinned.....one can never have enough pins. The cherub will have no in game effect at all.
jackanory - Well I've blamed John for the character of the whole warband so I'm not surprised you see the Blachian vibe going on. Glad you're back on board with the grim darkness. I'm looking forward to seeing more detail on your armatures.
I love the eye! Give her a hammer and the Cherub justifies counts-as Coteaz, too
Re: boobs, I refer to a female colleague's remark, reading some kind of health pamphlet: "'During exercise, your breasts move in a figure of 8 motion and may be displaced up to 9cm' - wtf?!"
What sort of colour scheme you planning for her =][=-ness?
Can't believe the discussion about boobs, but that might be my fault for preferring most other aesthetic aspects of a womens body over her breasts. Maybe some of you guys should call their moms and ask them whether they massively over-/under-breastfed them in their childhood (maybe even youth...)
Anyway, great work Peter. The cherub on her shoulder is waaay better then on an extra base, feth game mechanics. Considering you chose this arrangement, you'll like my archivists menial/cherub, who has a similar position, yet entirely different function.
The technical highlight of this one must be the purity seals which are both perfectly sculpted and positioned.
Will you keep the vampire fangs? While one could reason she's got scary implants (apart from the boobs), I think it would be more suitable to get rid of them.
First up I should say that I love all your miniatures and they were one of the main inspirations to me to join Dakka.
I am very impressed by the bionic-eye/psi-occulum considering how incredibly tiny her head is. If you have a headless Isabella body lying around, would you say that a dark eldar head would fit it, or would it be oversized? I am preparing to give my Isabella a radical haircut.
I also really like the cherub on her shoulder, it ties into the whole shoulder angel concept, though traditionally the good/angelic side is the right shoulder, so this cherub is not as angelic as it appears, perhaps.
inmygravenimage - lol...good idea. The colour scheme is going to be similar to the rest of the warband. Black Armour, silver highlights, Red, Gold, White, maybe a rich purple (like the crusader).
Imperial Monkey - Arrrrggghhhhh too late
Baiyuan - I'm looking forward to when you stop teasing us...show us some more pics buddy. Don't tell anyone but the seals were placed to hide the damage from where I cut the blood drop gems.
Bruticus - Thanks man. I'd say Issabella would take a dark eldar head as long as you get rid of the dark eldar neck brace/collar. She would also take a dark eldar arm swap. Her own hands are tiny and wouldn't take 40k weaponry. Hadn't thought of the shoulder angel and devil....I might work that into her back story. Perhaps the cherub plays devils advocate with her flittering from one shoulder to the other. Cheers
PDH wrote:Baiyuan - I'm looking forward to when you stop teasing us...show us some more pics buddy. Don't tell anyone but the seals were placed to hide the damage from where I cut the blood drop gems.
More pics? You were the the one who said I doesn't want to see previews of the archivist, but the finished thing. Well that will take a while, because it's Hope first.
I guessed that the seals were there for that reason, but that doesn't make them any less good looking.
What about the teeth? Did you answer that question before?
What about the familiar from the chaos termie sorcerer? That'd work.
Also, I was breast fed till 17 months, and my first words were don't bite. Explains a lot..:
On the shoulder is better, the inquisitor taking a hint from her little spy in the rafters.
And its good to see someone else making use of the corsair gloves. Are you going to get out a double barrelled shotgun for us though? You will probably do a much better job than I did...
neil101 - I'm thinking the cherub might very well have been a gift from a former lover. Suggesting right and wrong...she wishes he had kept it.
Baiyuan - What can I say I'm contradictory...perhaps I just want to see more finished stuff from you. I thought I was forgetting something...your question. The teeth...probably get rid of them...only take three secs with a modelling knife. Hadn't really noticed them in all honesty.
inmygravenimage - Good idea but I rather like the idea of the cherub taking on both roles of "Right and Wrong"
monkeytroll - Yeah wrong thread and Scarper might cry if we remove the jumpers from his thread.
DaemonJellybaby - No double barrelled shotgun (and yours really is cool) until I get round to my Scavvy Boss....though I might use the Death Korp grenade launcher as a shotgun on the boss. Roll on June for more Nercomunda goodness
Hey Pete! She looks amazing - the cherub on the shoulder is an inspired touch, the two of them work really well together. The purity seals flow fantastically, and I think you've balanced out the enormous shoulders really well! She still retains a kind of vampish quality (teeth or not), but I think that really suits.
If you steal my fisherman jumpers, I may have to send you more links though
Scarper - Well links or no links telling me not to google image search Fourniere's gangrene is a good deterrent. You sir may keep your fisherwoman's jumpers.
I tend to disagree, isn't that breakout of evilness linked to the fact that women are in fact devils themselves, who are smart enough to hide that from you long enough to lure you deep enough into their territory?

You know I think you might be on to something here

I might not need to worry about a vent for the back of her armour.....cherub placement is everything....
O you will my friend you will
Dont cheat build the vent then add cherub ………. after all you are only robbing your self and us
Baiyuan is right: You could simply cut off one of the little round parts from the side of a CSM backpack and cut off the vent from there. Also, one of the old CSM backpacks that were used during the 90s has a nice vent straight in its center. That may be worth looking at too.
Baiyuan and KrautScientist- The problem with her vent is I'm not sure what I want. I've looked at various ork weapons and marine bits but I just cannot make my mind up. I reckon that I'm over thinking it.
Sorry about the terrible lighting on these but it gives you the current idea.
The bluetak has raised the Cherub up a little higher than where it should be. Some of the GS looks a little rough and needs sharpening....by hey its wip. Oh and I think I quite like the square vent.
Anyway she is going back in her box until tomorrow.....or monday if I drink too much port this evening.
Like I previously said, that's one fantastic model!
One thing I only noticed now: The bones adorning her skirt may be fairly standard for a Vampire, but they istantly add a bit of sinister mystique to the Inquisitrix: One cannot help but speculate where and how she got these...
PDH, drink less port and work on her some more. You owe us that much after teasing us with the pictures
KS - The bones are those of loyal imperial servants lost to a righteous cause or are they the bones of heretics saved from the pyre to be shown as warnings to other.... I thought they added a nice sinister vibe to here whatever. If I go with the former I might use them as hexagrammic wards.

..Sort of
Did I really say that? Sounds like me being sarcastic.
Also I'm only teasing so much to protect you guys. If I were to just show you all of Hope, even in it's unfinished state, who could predict the consequences? Blown minds, nightmares, depressed dakkanauts quitting the hobby because they are not worthy... Really, who could say what would happen, so I rather try to stick with homoeopathic doses to slowly prepare the (dakka)world for the final epiphany...

Bastard....
The inquisitrix is coming along nicely. As has been mentioned, the bones add the just the right touch of creepy and gothic that every inquisitor needs. I wouldn't worry about the vent too much. It looks fine now, and when everything is painted, the cherub's wires and whatnot will pull attention away from it, if not cover it.
LOL i cant remember a time where people DIDNT take blows at Baiyuan, poor guy... but that model looks great PDH why do you hate that vent so much, i dont think its too bad.. plus in the panit sceme im sure your eyes wont be drawn to it at all
PDH wrote:LDD - The karma fairy has kicked me in the groin.
The cherub wont cover the vent area.
Pull its wings of then The Square rectangle vent works for me although a v shaped vent would be cool the overall figure is one of the best put together female miniatures I have seen to date.
A bit of paint should really bring it life, as for pictures your generosity is slightly more than others
Rogue Wolves wrote:LOL i cant remember a time where people DIDNT take blows at Baiyuan, poor guy...
What? I thought that was everybody's way to show me their affection...
No need for compassion I can take a joke. I stopped being sensitive back when I was the only kid in school that showed up in a costume for carnival. Being a clown with a red wig, pillows under his shirt and shiny yellow pants didn't particularly help with blending in that day.
Didn't drink any port last night but also didn't do any modeling today. The two bottles of port I had been given from Abi's Grandfather's basement had well and truly gone off I don't think they were terribly expensive and they both had 1980's labels. Still the stinky cheese was delicious.
Lots of modeling tomorrow since it is going to be raining.
I've been looking for something to attach to the top of her left leg where it meets the corset. I've tried locks from the Cherubaal, SM pouches and GK reliquaries. None of them looked quite right. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I'm so happy how the cherub, vent and fuel canister have combined on her back. The cherub whispering in her ear made this model, it took me long enough but it cracked her. I've not attached it and will have to paint it separately, so it doesn't get in the way. I think a nice pale skin tone for her and a pinky tone for the flying baby.
The power sword hand flamer combi weapon looks just crazy enough and dangerous enough for her and her enemies. I hope the preposterous location of the fuel line and mini tank are noticed....thank the Machine God.
I think she looks fantastic, PDH! Unique yet capturing so much grimdarkness
PDH wrote:I've been looking for something to attach to the top of her left leg where it meets the corset. I've tried locks from the Cherubaal, SM pouches and GK reliquaries. None of them looked quite right. Does anyone have any suggestions?
What about an apothecary vial or DA grenades? The first would be suitably creepy and the second suitably ornate, imho.
first of all, let me say that the finished model is well worth the wait! She's fantastic, hands down! I'm quite envious My only nitpick would be that the fuel line might take away too much attention from those beautiful bones adorning her skirt, but I imagine that this issue may be easily resolved with the right paintjob.
Concerning the "missing" bit on her leg, I guess it comes down to what kind of look you want to achieve: Do you want something that flows with the lines of the sulpt, or would you prefer something bulkier that causes some small amount of visual irritation?
in any case, my first thought was that the Flagellant kit is full of great bitz, like the little hourglass, the scrolls and skulls, the symbol of the two-tailed comet etc. Maybe one of those bitz would do the job?
Or another suggestion (that you'll maybe find a little weird): The Bretonnian Men at Arms kit has this tiny little "treasure chest" (for lack of a better word). It's really small, just small enough to fit on a character's hip. Maybe you should have a look at it, it would add another little narrative hook: What does she keep in there? A prized possession? The fingerbones of a dead martyr? A heretical artifact that no one is supposed to see?
Awesome work as ever! The base model's great but your posing and additions have made it ten times better. I do love the bones on the back of her dress.
My first thought for the hip would have been a lock, but you've already tried that...maybe the thin 'canisters' from the kroot sprue?
However I like the vial idea and the little chest sounds like a lovely character touch.
Rawson - Thanks for the suggestions. I actually tried the DA censer but that was too big. I don't think she is the kinda girl who goes around carry grenades (not sure why she has a big sodding sword after all) Maybe they don't go with her dress.
evildrcheese- Thanks. Will probable start painting tomorrow ah I love random days off work.
KrautScientist - Cheers for that. The fuel line is actually meant to take something away from the bones, the bones are there as decoration, for effect, the fuel line is there for a purpose. It also ties the top and bottom of the model together since I felt there was a distinct divide. When painted I think the bones will still shine through the dark wire.
I want the missing part to flow with the sculpt, if another part is needed at all. So I don't think the chest or skulls etc would world. The one thing I don't want is an hour glass, too cortez.
jackanory - The lower half of the vampire model is much nicer than the top half.
monkeytroll - I'm keeping her teeth as they are now. I trimmed them a little and I think once painted they won't be as vampy. Great minds mate the locks were the first thing I tried. But I'd not considered the kroot sprue stuff. Now that may work...I'm going digging in my bits chest
She looks great. I'm interested to see what colour you paint the hair, it looks like white would be the obvious choice but maybe a pale blonde would move it away from her vampire origins. Does she have any =I= symbols on her anywhere? I thought the fasteners of her corset might form one at first.
It's not too late to put a whispering Nurgling on her other shoulder!
Better than I had hoped for. The sword turned out perfectly, and I'm crazy about the use of the cherub. As you mentioned, I would suggest giving one of them a pink skin tone and another one a colder, almost blue-tinted skin tone. Depending on what color you are going to do the armor, I'd almost opt to give her the pink skin tone, as the cherub (being an artificial construct) could have a much colder, clammier skin than her. Glad to see you still churning stuff out. I can't wait to get back to my own project when time permits.
What a beauty! Even though the idea was good, I wasn't entirely sold on the first steps of the conversion, but as usual there was no doubt you would turn it around and you did.
I like the tank, so you heeded my "have a look at ork equipment" advice. The tanks and vents on the nob axes are just great, I used the same one on Radius.
The cherub was a stroke of genius.
The sword turned out perfect and tbh I was a little worried about that part, but you showed me.
For the hip part I'd suggest the small relic cases with the gothic arch that come with the GK sets, the closed one with the lock to be specific.
If that's still not it, it definitely has to be something very small, grenades wouldn't work. Maybe just take a couple tiny cogs and glue them between two pieces of plastic card to create an arcane device like the one Eisenhorn 54mm carries.
She's looking great. I like the flamer sword, but could you take it one step further and use the Shishkebab sword from Fallout as inspiration?
Some flames licking up the sword blade cold be an interesting touch.
As for the hip, one of the Brettonian kits has a small square box with a heart in that is supposed to hang from a belt. It looks great and would go with the bones
I think she has turned out looking Elegantly beautiful with a twist of Gothic horror just amazing work, love the tank on the back simple but works and not over bearing.
As for the top left leg personally I would leave it as is after all she does not want to be overloaded, although maybe a set of keys would not look bad
I really cant wait to see this come to life with an amazing paint job, well you will do your best at least LOL for some reason I keep seeing her a s a red head Fiery Temptress
The cherub skin tones will look great in contrast with a pale pinky flesh tone of hers …… maybe thats why I see her as a red head
Great work you should be proud mate she looks great
Wow...She's perfect! The sword and flamer is brilliant, and the fuel line and tank look great. As for the hose obscuring the bones, I sort of like it. It makes the bones seem a bit more subtle and really helps to blend them into the model. The cherub, though, makes the model.
For that little space by her leg, my suggestion is maybe a purity seal or two, perhaps in conjunction with a chain of rosary beads.
