Will the Tunnel Dweller be part of this? I want that model sooooo much, can't find it anywhere! And it'd be way better in resin.

I have seen some sculpts of what appeared to be a resin tunnel dweller yes. Plus some giant slug monster thingy.

Oooooooh man. Could you link to where you saw those? I guess I'll find out tomorrow, but I am totally in for that and possibly the "giant slug monster" too, as that sounds right up my alley!

*This is despite my having originally put in for a dragon, then bailed on it years ago while that was still an option. I've also successfully ordered other models from him in the interim. I know he's been through tough times, and honestly Kickstarter seems perfect for him- get an influx of funds in, close the shop for a few months, and crank out some resin monsters.

Well, I hope that Kickstarter isn't actually for dragons- that thing has been a millstone around his neck. I think other, slightly smaller monsters, are hopefully what's in store. I would be very hesitant to pledge for that dragon- I think he just wants to get through the queue of them he is obligated to finish, and be done with that thing... right? This is speculation, would love to hear from someone who has followed it more closely.

Not for the dragons alone- just to chivvy him along with the material cost of making them. The models are the rewards for helping him do it.

Well, I went for a Monster Mash early bird pledge- at the size of some of these, 10 pounds apiece is really nice. Lots of early birds to be had on the campaign, too, but not a lot in any one category! I'm hoping he'll clarify what categories some of the stretch goal models might be in.

Has anyone here seen the "Terror Grubs" that he mentioned selling at Salute, and that angel mentioned above? I can't seem to find a pic anywhere (if he has a WIP thread or somesuch on his forum please feel free to jut point me to it!).

Great job keeping the OP updated angelofvengeance

This has to be one of the most worthy Kickstarters I have seen, genuinely helping out a small garage business to produce miniatures, and great to see some of these miniatures going on sale again.

Will work out a good pledge level and go from there - will be great to get some extra stuff to pad out the dungeons for Heroquest and Dwarf Lords Saga, and will almost certainly be starting with that Demon lord that looks rather like Tim Curry in Legend!

The maths on this is very dodgy.

Aside from being horribly confusing, Im not comfortable backing someone to produce a kit hes already had two years to produce and done done, thats not even related to this kickstarter. Its utterly baffling.

I think he's done extremely well all things considered. He's suffered many a setback due to the recession and various other traumas. I think once he's got this dragon thing nailed down (which seems to be VERY SOON looking at his KS page now) he'll be OK I think.

While it took him a while to get me my dragon, the figure is indeed freakin' awesome! - I am very glad to have it, and I consider it worth the wait.

And the Kickstarter has now reached its goal, and a bit beyond.

The thing with Heresy though is that Andy is such a stand up guy that if his Kickstarter was just a blank page saying that if you pledge something - you will get something cool that is worth it...I would likely take him up on that. I have been a customer of his for 10 years, and have never been disappointed by any of the purchases I have made.

About the only other company I would be willing to go in for sight unseen would be Hasslefree (would love to see a Kickstarter from Kevin).

I do hope that this one gets more new big stuff. I have most these from before the "bankers" got involved and they are beautiful.

I'm a little surprised that Hasslefree hasn't done a Kickstarter yet, actually.

I think I'd be interested in backing this. I like the looks of a lot of Heresy's stuff. If any of his sci-fi stuff winds up being available during this KS, I'll absolutely back it.

Post by: Looky Likey

Not sure Hasslefree need a kickstarter as they seem so organised and on top of what they are producing, from the outside they seem the best ran small mini company. Their limiting factor seems to be the speed Kev can work at more than funding related.

I'm in for a winged netherlord and a big boris for now, might extend my pledge later if Andy adds in some bits that take my fancy.

Absolutely, 100% agree with this.

Bought various different things from Heresy Miniatures over the years and have never been disappointed. One of the nice touches is a small pack of sweets and hand-written 'thanks' note with every order!

I only discovered Heresy last year, but was very happy with the stuff I got in the one order I placed (ghouls, giant slugs, Manbane the minotaur (what a fun model!), Azaroth, and a cyclops, IIRC). And the little bag of sweets was indeed a nice touch!

I actually went ahead and jumped in on one of the Pantheon EB's on this. It presently doesn't really add up to a good deal (it's cheaper to get the stuff included separately), but Andy confirmed in the comments that stuff will get added to it. We shall see!

Aside from the wonderful gribbly monsters, I was always especially impressed by the casting quality of everything - something that was probably helped by the deep details on his models. Resin should benefit even more from this!

I was able to pick up a discounted "factory seconds" Dragon from Salute the year he started making them, and it has become my nemesis! How do you even begin to store something that big, let alone do justice on the paintjob? But it is truly awe-inspiring, and I imagine that the Netherlord has a similar effect.

Not only do I expect this to be delivered well on time and to an excellent quality, I'm looking forward to Andy getting involved in the comments and showing us all of the new goodies that will be going up.

Update #5
STRETCH GOAL #2 - PANTHEON UPGRADE

OK, I need to gather my thoughts and stuff, so I'm making the next stretch goal a little further away to give me a chance to recover from this blizzard of Awesome. When we hit £13500k, everyone who has pledged at Pantheon level gets Upgraded. Instead of 2x Minion and 1 x Large Monster, You're going to get 4 x Minion and 2 x Large Monster!

And I have a further Upgrade for Pantheon planned for later on...

Thirded!

I have bought loads of SF figures (all the Non-Doctors, for example) and tools, Procreate putty etc from Heresy. He does great figures that can be used in a lot of games. The little handwritten note is a very cheerful personal touch.

This kind of grass roots company is part of the life blood of the wargames industry and deserves to be supported.

I hope they're recast in resin too. Metal ones are nice enough but I'm not a fan of green stuffing the joints. I'm a bit of a noob where that's concerned.

Yeah, I'd only buy those in resin. The multi-part metal aspect of them looks like a nightmare. Also, I'd love to see some optional compatible ruffs or frill-necks...

Ha, it doesn't seem likely; this is from the KS FAQ:
Will the Dragon be part of this Kickstarter? You keep wanging on about it...

Most definitely not! This campaign is very specifically post-dragon in it's nature. I can't wait to get rid of the queue for that beast. If you want one, you can get in the queue for it on the main Heresy site, here:

PANTHEON UPGRADES UNLEASHED!HELL BEASTS NEXT!

Morning all! £13500 passed! Upgrades to Pantheon unleashed!
The PANTHEON pledge is now a sweet deal indeed! The PANTHEON pledge is now a sweet deal indeed!

It's only day three! Pantheon will be revisited again in the next 13 days, trust me...

What a great thing to wake up to here in the UK!

STRETCH GOAL - £15,000

I'm thinking Hellbeasts next, a much-loved and missed (Seriously, I miss them. Actual emotional attachment to my little guys) but I have to take new pictures of them - they were last photographed so long ago that all I have are tiny jpgs that won't do at all in these modern times! I think the camera I used to take the pics at the time had a floppy disk drive! (It was a great camera, though - took great pics.) LOL. The Hellbeasts will be available individually at Minion Class level TO START WITH. I'll bring the Hellbeasts in when we hit £15,000, and I'll add some better pics later this morning once I've got them photographed anew... time for some coffee and toast!

I think I like the Hell Hounds better, personally. Also, noooooooo dragons in this campaign, thank you very much! And as noted, since you can order that in his store already in resin, there's no reason to give KS a cut if someone really does want to get in the back of the queue and pay £200 for one. I was in the queue long ago, and got out back when you could still do that but I've been impressed how he has persevered with it- a lesser man would've cut his losses and taken a lot of folks money down with him. He didn't, despite a lot of financial pressure to do so, and I think he's come out a lot stronger for it. Like I said, I successfully ordered some models from him last year and feel confident enough in his having learned to cast in resin, and in his track record, to pledge here

As I have stated numerous times in the past, these are in my opinion the best goblin sculpts in the market out of any manufacturer. They combine perfectly the evil and malicious character with a menacing appearance. There is nothing funny, silly or cartoonish in how they look. I never understood why every company makes them look so silly. They are monsters at the end. Congratulations once more Andy for these best looking goblins.
I find the opportunity here to express once more my wish to see you making other goblin units as well (swordsmen. spearmen and wolf riders)!!

Is he shutting down the webstore in the interim, or still using keeping it going?

There's a fair bit I'd like to get, but it might be more betterer to just buy stuff directly from him every so often (as I usually do) rather than pledge for existing figures at a slight discount in a KS to be delivered in Janua^^^^^ July or later.

He mentions about orders being delayed a bit when he has been doing dragon-production, but nothing about the KS. Although, if this KS keeps on going the way it is going I would probably try and get your order in before the end of it!

As for why shipping to RoW now costs more for web purchases..

Spoiler:
LYING LIARS WHO LIE FORCE SHIPPING COST HIKE
Last year, a man from Iowa City, let's call him Justin, ordered some figures off me. He then emailed me to say they hadn't arrived. I sent him another box. He then said this hadn't arrived either and claimed the money back from Paypal. No boxes were ever returned to me. He didn't pay for trackable shipping so i had no way to prove he'd had either box. End result, I was out over £100 of stock and £25 of shipping.

Now a man called, let's say, Patrick also from Iowa City, has claimed via Paypal that his £84 order hasn't arrived that he wanted in time for this weekend; he didn't pay for express shipping DESPITE WANTING IT FOR A SET DATE. Despite also the fact it's only been three weeks, he has escalated it to a claim on Paypal. Just checked him out on Facebook. Guess who's on his friends list? That's right, Justin.

So basically I'm being ripped off for another £100 of stock and shipping, and now I'm going to have to change the cart so that anyone from overseas has to pay the extra £7.00 shipping charge for trackable shipping. Everyone loses. Well done, Patrick and Justin. I hope you feel like powerful manly men playing with your stolen toys. You've made life that little bit worse for me and for all my customers.

(Paypal always finds in favour of buyers no matter what proof of shipping one has, they don't even read the evidence.)

I have now added a £7.00 handling fee to orders from 'Rest Of The World' countries, which covers USA, Canada, Australia and The Far East. This means any order from there will pay £7.00 extra which will cover the trackable/signed for service to their country. If you're one of my regular customers from over the years, I will refund the extra fee or give you extra miniatures towards the cost if you wish. I don't see why the people who've kept me in business should suffer for the ones who try to put me out of it.

Again, apologies for this, but it seems to be the times we live in now.

Very nice! I really want one of his dragons, been waiting till he gets further down the queue before ordering one.

Andy has said that what he does will also depend on how much he raises, if he gets enough he'll be able to get a minion to help, thus the store may stay open in that case. I think he was talking about £40k for that?

He still has plenty of new stuff for future KS as well with plastic skellies, not blood bowl and some of the other big stuff that doesn't look like (rightly) making it into the first KS.

Update #12
What's next? Something...angelic?

OK, we're just about at £18k at the time of writing, the question is: what do you want me to put on the list next? I've got the Ogre with Table, the Cyclops, all the Deathball minotaurs, ogres and cyclops, and the more complicated Fallen One class miniatures like the glorious Angel and his counterpiece miniature, B'Hakoth The Destroyer, as seen in this beautiful bit of work by Talonicus.
Let me know in the comments!

New Stretch Goal: £20K Ghouls & Scorpions

With Nagash and his legions coming up for a revamp how about some rather nice Ghouls for your Undead army? Maybe a Giant Scorpion?

Update#13

While we await the Angel...

Figuring out pricing on the Angel and B'Hakoth, as they're pretty complicated miniatures and I need to allow for a lot of ripping from the spikey bits on B'Hakoth. Can't wait to see them in resin, though, I think they're going to look amazing!

Meanwhile, here's an interim Stretch Goal:

Well, I hope that Kickstarter isn't actually for dragons- that thing has been a millstone around his neck. I think other, slightly smaller monsters, are hopefully what's in store. This is speculation, would love to hear from someone who has followed it more closely.

Not for the dragons alone- just to chivvy him along with the material cost of making them. The models are the rewards for helping him do it.

Who's nicking my pictures!!!

Seriously, the dragon is stunning and was a pleasure to paint - I would recommend it to anyone.

I'm a bit gutted about this kickstarter, I have loads of Heresy miniatures already so I don't need that much, but I'm sure I'll order some zombies or something - you can never have too much undead. I'm just glad to see things going well for Andy for a change - I know this Dragon has given him nightmares.

Ah, the lovely horrible blights. Andy reckons he'll just send the full head options with any blights ordered (to cut down on email admin), which is great news, given that they include my favourite Triclops heads!

I'm torn on the lurkers though - I wanted just to stick to a few large beasties this time, and they cost a bit (although are quite large), but aren't going to be produced beyond the Kickstarter. Hmm...

Look who's back by popular demand...

Also to be unlocked at £24K

It's coming back. Alongside the Lurkers, and the Blights too, when we hit £24k the NL2 will be available as a NetherLord Class Reward. I really loved this sculpt, but it suffered from the need to cut things up for the metal process when it was released the first time around. It was a jigsaw, I even had to make an instruction sheet for it. Now, in resin, not only is it much, much simpler to put together, but it's got a lot less weight on that ankle with it's Super Dynamic pose, so no massive steel rod required to be inserted through the foot! Ah, the joys of resin over metal....

The NL2 comes with the choice of NetherAxe II, NetherSword II and a SoulLash (whip) for you to arm it with in either hand.

Bit quiet today and yesterday but that's because it takes so long to edit all the pictures and things. Did not realise there would be quite so much work involved in running a Kickstarter, it's really getting me ready for when I do the big one next year for the plastic skeletons and stuff. Still got loads more things to come on this Kickstarter yet, though, including both the old version of the Ogre With Table and the new improved one, the Angel and B'Hakoth The Fallen One, who will be available as individual kits and also as a special merged diorama figure, which I'm going to alter especially for this Kickstarter into a rather arty piece. And of course, more Large Monster rewards (cyclops, for example) and Minions - the Maggotman test piece should be ready to photograph by the weekend and I'm hoping to get cracking on the new Nur'Gabba The Fallen One (think of a mix of Jabba The Hutt, a Plague Demon and Hedonismbot from Futurama) by the end of those two days as well, good enough to show you what I intend to do, at least!

So don't worry if things seem quiet, I'm just building up for the big one in a couple of days' time! But do send all your friends along! If we can hit £35k or more by campaign end I will be able to hire some help to speed things up immensely around here!

Don't forget, when we hit £24k, Pantheon gets a massive upgrade to become an amazingly good value deal, and we get The Netherlord II, the Lurkers and the Blights! (See the earlier updates for info!)

A bit of a shame that Andy's going for Pantheon as the "sweet spot" level. £220 is a gakload of money ($390au in my money), and way more than most people are going to be able to afford (especially with such a short-run KS).

I suspect those postage changes listed above will cost him further. It's a real shame that melon-fethers abused his good nature, but I'm not going to be willing to pay that much extra to buy his models. (and likely not a frequent enough customer for him to be able to trust me to not worry about it).

What postage changes, Azazel? I thought postage was being determined after the campaign and charged based on actual costs?

He's been having issues with various douches saying they havent got the goods, when in fact they had received the goods and just put a claim in to paypal against him to get them for free!

As below:-
LYING LIARS WHO LIE FORCE SHIPPING COST HIKE

~Andy Foster

Director,

Heresy Miniatures Ltd

PS, yes Paypal found in his favour, depsite scans of proof of shipping and server records showing emails sent. I hope he's enjoying his stolen miniatures.

To be completely clear - postage is going to be charged on actual cost, it's just that postage abroad (which is already expensive) is going to include tracked shipping, which costs more. He feels bad that existing customers are getting affected by this, so has offered extra stuff/potential discount to balance this out.

I agree that £220 is a big "sweet spot", but I don't think there really is one for this kind of Kickstarter, as people have such differing needs. ~£30 Overseer/Monster Mash are good depending on whether you want small/big monsters, £100 Dungeon is even better value if you want a mix, anything above that is really if you want to save money on a £120 Netherlord! I'd just pick something and add things on as desired - everything is a 20% discount over normal price at a minimum anyway.

If anyone does have Kickstarter advice to give to Andy though, am sure he'd appreciate it! He might have an excellent quality and service reputation, but readily admits that all of this KS psychology stuff is pretty new to him.

Ah, that does seem unwise. I've ordered from him a few times in the past, so hopefully I can get it refunded or the like- but that kind of sucks for new customers. Also is kind of "cutting off your nose to spite your face"- sure, he'll avoid getting ripped off by that guy in Iowa, but he might lose more business as a result of people not being able to place small orders without paying exorbitant shipping.

Obviously, for larger orders sometimes it's worth it to get tracking, anyway. But for small ones, I just received this helpful tip from a UK seller (only valid for items under £20, though) who is sending me a replacement for a figure that didn't arrive after a month:

Also, if something like that goes missing then I can file a Missing Items form with the post office and they will either locate it or refund its value based off the paypal receipt. Of course, they never do look so just end up refunding it.

Bear that in mind if any UK-based retailer you ever use says anything like, "We posted it - nothing can be done." - something can always be done! They can recover the value (up to £20) and they can use that to refund you.

So, it wouldn't help in the example he used, but for small orders he really should not restrict himself to tracking-only, or it won't be feasible for people to make small orders from him due to the shipping costs. He's covered for those regardless using the above method.

I've said elsewhere, I'm dead impressed with the technical skill and bags of character that Andy's sculpting has developed over the past ten years. Ner'Gabba looks absolutely brilliant, and if he brings out more reworked ogres like that, I might have to dust off my OKs again.

It certainly shows when you look at his older sculpts compared to the newer ones eh?

I have never backed a kickstarter before, but have now done so because angelofvengenance's sig. was threatening me!
Was wondering if some one could please give a run down on how they work with stretchgoals and pledge levels etc.
Thanks.

Cheers mate,
I did have a flick through that and a few other bits and bobs but cant say I was really enlightened. Might be because its 2am, I am stuck mentally in the 19th century or I am pretty thick!

Regardless I emailed the owner of Heresy and he got back to me in like twenty seconds. Now that is the kind of person one can admire, also he said the angel goes up later and that is one sweet looking model. My life will not be complete until I get it!

Heh! Yeah 2am probably isn't the best time for your brain focus haha.

Andy Foster is a very nice chap- he sends you sweets with your orders . His models are excellent (I have trolls, lurkers, hell beasts/hounds and giant scorpions etc!)

It's official folks-

MADAME NER'GABBA , MOST BEAUTIFUL OF ALL!
Ner'Gabba! This is a rough sculpt to show you what she will look like when properly done. She's one sassy slug-tick-tentacle monster lady!

Ner'Gabba is too big to even fit into the Fallen One Class rewards, I've probably undervalued her at £50 so this is a special Kickstarter price for her. If you want to use reward slots to get hold of her via one of the old pledges, you will need to use up One Fallen One Class AND One Large Monster or Big Boris Class reward choice to do it!
Ner'Gabba is the preening, cooing, self-proclaimed Beauty Queen of the NetherHells whose avaricious narcissism knows no bounds. She rules a realm of quivering, crawling insect demons ("My pretties!") and mewling sycophantic Dark Brethren ("My brave lovers!") who live only to obey her every whim. In her mortal life Ner'gabba was a Duchess with designs on marrying the King but primarily concerned with manipulating those around her and seeking adulation... a real life parasite whose corruption and egomania blossomed into demonic form when she signed her soul away to the Darkness...

Ner'Gabba is ever a one for intrigues and interfering with people's lives and she sometimes appears in the Mortal Realm in the form of a massively obese Fertility Goddess in visions or more directly as a rotund brothel madam, perhaps luring unknowing and unusually good-looking Heroes into a portal leading to her demonic realm.

The Tunnel Dweller is thought to be one of Ner'Gabba's former lovers/champions rewarded for his affections with transmutation into the insane, gibbering horror that is worshipped as a living demi-god by the Tunnel Guard.

If we break the £25,000 barrier, Ner'Gabba will ship around May. She will be a resin and metal kit automatically included in Lord Of Darkness pledges! (Not pictured, various extras such as chained slave, hand mirror, etc)

MAGGOTMEN
What happens to those who fail to please her Most Gorgeous Majesty? Why, Ner'Gabba 'makes them pretty!' Maggotmen are one of her favourite rewards to turn rejected suitors into, especially for the viscious barbarians and other angry brutes who hurt her feelings.

Plus! He's added the Tunnel Guard-

Basically, it's a short-run campaign with quite a high sweet spot. Andy makes some nice models, but it's "I might like some of those one day" stuff rather than stuff I "need" - but 20% off with a 6-month wait doesn't sell it for me for stuff that mostly falls into impulse purchase territory for me personally. If there was a $100-ish level that looked exciting ($100, not £100!), I'd back it, but a 20% discount on existing models for a 6-month wait doesn't do much for me. As much of a nice guy Andy is, I really can't afford to do "support him with $100 and figure out something you'd like, just because." (And add postage later!). Especially with such a short campaign.

That's fair enough mate- I am supporting this mainly because a)I wants my dragon (#68 in the queue- will be getting mine at xmas time ) and b) I want to expand my menagerie of monsters for my Dark Eldar!

Right- We've now smashed through to £25K which means- the Ogres,Lurkers,Blights,Ghouls, the Angel/Demon pack,Maggotmen,Tunnel Guard and Ner'gabba are ALL unlocked. (WHEW!)

Any idea if Andy is going to allow upping of pledges later via the PM? There has to be a PM regardless since there's a million figures on offer. I might be able to swing something small now and then bump up to £50 or £100 later. I reckon £220 is a bridge way too far (for me), though.

New update folks-

Update #21

GOOD. BAD. I'M THE GUY WITH THE FLAMING SWORD.

THE ANGEL AND THE DEMON

Here we are at last, the last few big monsters from Heresy's past. And what a pair they are. Always designed as counterpart models that paired up to form a vignette of Light vs Dark, The Angel of Righteous Anger and the Fallen One known as B'Hakoth The Destroyer were fabulous models, but somewhat awkward due to the fact that being metal made them a little top heavy if you were moving them about at all. In resin, they will be a modeller's dream, easily converted and easily adapted to any diorama you want to pose them in. I'm even going to make a special linking piece so that you don't have to pin one to the other, they will be part of the same model. It's going to be pretty amazing. Both models will be included in the Lord Of Darkness pledge, and the special diorama piece will be as well, so that LoD pledgers can have their cake and eat it.

The Angel of Righteous Anger. As angry as he looks. And so righteous.

If we hit £28,000 then the Angel and B'Hakoth will be unlocked as individual Fallen One class reward choices.

If we hit £30,000, I will make a very special diorama version of the two, posed for maximum effect, with freshly sculpted components to replace the key parts that will hold them together as one. At 30k that diorama will be unlocked and available to choose as an Add-on reward for £70

To get an idea of what that might look like, here is a splendid piece that was done by Talonicus a few years back, where he has converted the two models to great effect!

Oh, and then there's these

The ogre-sized Cyclops is available NOW as a Large Monster reward choice...

One of the first models I sculpted for Heresy back in 2002 was this Fallen One. Confusingly, he's not big enough to make it into Fallen One class, so he's in Minion Class...

Next up, how about something a bit more heroic for a change?

I might have to do that, yeah.

That's what I had to do, as well. Also lets you see how progress goes for a bit before really committing. I really would like a tunnel dweller, and had been offering a lot in the swapshop for a metal one with no luck. But it is pricey after shipping! Even if it's preferable in resin here.

Have to wonder if Andy is filled more with excitement or terror at this point...

In a week or so, he gets a big pile of money...but then he has to actually fulfill the pledges (and by rough calculation, it will be a whole lot of resin to be cast over the next 6 months).

Also lets you see how progress goes for a bit before really committing.

Unfortunately, even more so with these smaller ones than the big ones, it can also make the difference between locked and unlocked at the end of the campaign.

It does put more money into the hands of the creator (which is a good thing) but I always like to see as much go in during the campaign to get those last goals unlocked and see where the campaign is headed.

...Now, when will he do one for his sci-fi line up...

That's a bit scary in itself for us as well. Especially when he starts talking about hiring more staff, which is expensive.

Don't make it a.. what? 16-day campaign(?) with a sweet spot of 220 quid? That might help. Other option is that people like myself and RT don't pledge at all, and therefore add nothing later on.

I'm all for this campaign, but like Creature Caster did he even admits some stretch goals are just paced to keep reveals going. My concern with this and one like Mecha Front is a higher total makes for a much larger project for a small operation, and delayed fulfillment. I have a use for a model, but sometimes delays make that use invalid. So, having a few months to see progress before paying the full amount in the pledge manager could help me see if the pace here will still make the model useful to me. Either way, I am pledging, just not sure how much.

I've backed many campaigns and it helps small companies to get spaced out orders, too, not all at once then nothing. I even pledged toward Andy's dragon, pre-Kickstarter days . So, I really support him, but am likely to want to see how things go before putting in more funds later.

I wouldn't worry about that, after all you have contributed. Despite your lack of pledge you have contributed a lot of posts on this kicksstarter

Personally I am happy the "sweetspot" is so high. Andy was only after the 3 grand to help him along with the dragon. He got that an a feth-ton more which is good! However if what you say is true and that the lower sweetspot would have brought in a heck of a lot more people then that would mean a heck of a lot more complex resin minis to produce and the chance of being a victim of his own success skyrockets.

Considering that he is 23k over his original 3k goal, I think he picked a good enough "mega-pledge" to entice people in.
Could he have gotten more money? Sure!
Would that have been a good idea? I don't know.

But if he is happy with the current result then awesome, if not and he is kicking himself that he should have had a lower sweetspot well he can be prepared with how we wants to run the next kickstrarter, should he do one for his sci-fi range or the 30 part Dropshipt hat I have just made up for his Grymm.

Well, that was in response to Sean's post about wanting to see the campaign get higher with more Stretch Goals. The way Andy is running the campaign seems pretty clear that he does want to raise as much as possible, or he'd be slowing it down rather than keeping it going with more and more models added (most of which aren't even in resin/resin remasters, but additions of his existing stuff in metal).

It won't be a problem jumping on for a small amount once I get paid, and if the PM isn't too soon or closes too fast (hopefully not) then I'll grab a few of the "yeah, I always wanted those" figures. I picked up a few sets in the last year anyway, but I'll see what I can swing.

Well Andy must be feeling pretty happy right about now. We're now at £30K for this campaign with 48hrs left to go.

Here's what's been unlocked for the Lord Of Darkness pledge level.

More to follow as soon as Andy's done an update lol.

And just for those interested in this sort of thing-

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Some rather nice freebies and cool alternatives for Mantic's Dungeon Saga heroes. Or whatever dungeon crawler takes your fancy for that matter...

Update #23

£40K Stretch Goal: YOU'RE ALL HEROES!

Please note that's the Dwarf Inventor but only with his pistols, not the full bag of bitz he normally comes with.
WHERE NEXT?

Well, I'm off to decide that very thing. That's the problem with a wildly successful Kickstarter, you run out of things to kickstart.

What I need now, is a new real life Minion to help out! So the next Stretch goal will be for £40,000, at which point I should be able to hire some help. The bonus to you is it means things will get sorted out faster! I'll be adding a few bits for you to pledge for in the next few hours to help get us there!

Yes, some of Andy and Steve Buddle's finest there. Steve ran the Spyglass/Eolith range before going to work for GW, and produced some lovely models.

Steve's style tends towards 'flatter' single-piece models with bold details and flowing robes, and Andy's more to the dynamic, gribbly and multi-part.

Lord of Darkness pledge £666

WHAT'S IN THE LORD OF DARKNESS PLEDGE NOW?

Glad you asked. Here's a list, bear in mind that some models like the Occulak are going to have two or three variants, and you'll get one of each variant proiduced as part of this kickstarter in you LoD pledge. I'm told that it adds up to about £833 at the moment, before you add on the £75 giant and the £130 Throne room diorama if we get that far, all for just £666! I've funded far more than I thought for this kickstarter and that means the LoD pledge is bonkers crazy good value. I'll also happily swap out Large Monsters for minions etc after the KS if you really want. We can sort that out via email.

At the time of writing there are only 11 Lord Of Darkness pledges left!

Some new models added to the kickstarter project folks-

He will be tweaking these to make the wings look better. These are quite old sculpts.

Plus!! Here's some sporting goods for you all...

And a rather nice looking choppy axe for the demon weapon loving crowd.. I should warn you this thing is MASSIVE.

This lot gets unlocked at £35k

At £37,500 the Wings for the NetherLord II model get added... they'll look something like this.

This winged NL2 was converted by Eric Lambert and is pretty much how I want mine to look, so I'm using it as an example of what I'll make.

Either add £25.00 to your pledge to get the separate wings, or up it to include £130 for the price of a full Winged NetherLord II kit and if we hit £37,500 I'll make the wings ready for shipment for June next year.

21hrs remaining at time of writing...

Let's do this!!

Man, that Lord of Darkness pledge - as he says, that would get to around £1000 worth of stuff for £666 once the giant was in, Will just have to be happy with "just" a Pantheon, and all of the stuff therein.

I'm most impressed by the amount of new stuff coming out of the Kickstarter - it's not just retooling, there's so many new (and old but Kickstarter-exclusive) kits now! You can have an entire maggoty army now...

Yeah I think this Kickstarter has perked him up massively. Lots of awesome new retooled stuff as well as some nice new things. It's also interesting to see the difference in his sculpting capabilities from when he started out to present day.

Speaking of new stuff...

Update#27

Don't forget the Giant!

Further to my last post, let's not forget about the Giant I'll be making if and when we hit £40,000! Some people were worried that I'd be giving him an actual baby's head. I've tried to explain that that's not how a sketch to physical sculpt process necessarily works, I was just trying to capture the feeling of innocent joy on the pencil sketch. But I didn't seem to be able to make myself clear so here's a quick sketch done in a mix of Fimo/Fimo Soft/Cernit clay of what the giant's head might look like. Here, he's been distracted by a pretty bird flying past his head.

If you want the giant, you can pledge £75 for him, and he'll be made if we hit £40,000. Or if you are one of the few people who has gone for the mega-crazy Lord Of Darkness deal, well, it's yet ANOTHER model you'll get as part of that at no extra cost, taking it up to around a 50% DISCOUNT on all the models that are in it for £666 if we hit £40k... I'm starting to think that's a bad plan on my part, it's so good!

LETS DO THIS!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Firstly- WOW!! Looks like Heresy will be cranking out the dollies now! £40K stretch goal ACHIEVED! This means- Andy can hire a minion to aid him in the task of fulfilling a rather satisfying 400+ backers worth of rewards

The Heresy Giant will apparently be around 270mm/11" tall. So thats around the height of a Shrine of the Aquila..

CONFIRMED STRETCH GOAL- LONG SHOT £45K

Andy will be able to hire 2 minions and make this this is assuming £10k can be filled in just under an hour and a half-

Update #29
GIANT UNLOCKED! 1 HOUR TO GO! LAST GOAL!

Hellbeasts are utterly adorable when they aren't rending your soul from your flesh with their teeth. Let's get this Throne Room Diorama unlocked!

The end is in sight! The Wicker Man has been built and I have lots of smashing flowers in my hair and a book of matches in my hand!

The Giant is Unlocked, thank you all so much, I'm really looking forward to sculpting it!

Now let's go for the big last act - the special Throne Room Diorama scene. This is going to be similar to the above sketch, featuring a throne of bones, Hellbeasts, and at least one Fallen One sized character to sit in the Throne (I'll do a couple for you to choose from)

There may also be Succubi involved.

It will be a resin set and will ship separately to the rest of your pledge. It will consist of a demonic throne, a seated Fallen One of some sort, and several hellbeasts as pictured. There will be a few banner stands and trophies about the place and a flaming brazier or two. But only if we hit £45,000! You will need to get your friends to come over and pledge!

To pledge for the Throne room diorama you will need to add £130 to your pledge. there's going to be a lot of bits to it beyond what you see in the sketches and it will very much be worth that much.

If you have pledged for the Lord of Darkness pledge, you will get the Throne Room Diorama as part of your pledge This will take it beyond £1100 of stuff for £666!

Or else, you can adjust your pledge level (don't have to change your reward) by adding the £130 to it.

This is a real long shot goal but we can do it!

1 hour to go!

I didn't invest in this KS because of something I would call the KS vicious circle.

I'll explain...

Let's say you have a company that wants to invest in a whole bunch of new products, but lacks the capital (common story, right?).

You're aren't big enough, or offer a product that the sharemarket understands, so becoming publicly listed to raise revenue isn't feasible, or maybe you don't like the idea of answering to shareholders (fair enough).

So you create a KS, and raise funds.

Great!

But you over promised the KS to draw in backers...offered deals that were too good.

Or maybe you were in debt to begin with, and a substantial portion of funds that should be for the KS are used to alleviate debt.

Or maybe you simply didn't calculate costs correctly, or costs of basic materials rise, or you realise you need to hire staff.

You are suddenly in a position where despite just completing a successful KS, you are in dire needs of more funds!

Heresy minis is in all three above situations!

Andy has a history of poor decision making regarding his business, he openly declared that the funds from his KS were to be used to make the 200-odd dragons he still hasn't completed from over 3 years ago.

He then kept adding more and more minis to his KS, and now is in a position where the money from his KS has to be used to finalise all his old outstanding orders and all his new KS obligations.

I fear that whilst he may well pump out the dragons and get rid of that millstone, he will run out of money before managing to complete the hundreds of new orders this KS brings.

Then what...another KS to use to raise revenue to finish the previous one?

Hey, just my opinion, maybe everything will go smoothly, and the numerous backers will be holding shiny resin demons early next year...

We'll see...!

On the plus side he has the ability to bulk purchase the resin he needs that cuts down on the costs a lot.

While he hasn't got the best track record from the business side of things the Dragon issues were mainly brought on by having an incredibly ambitious project and not having the ability to make it reliably using the techniques and tools he had at the time.

He has been able to get past the vast majority of the issues so hopefully this will wipe it off.
I have to agree I think it got a bit large but I am not too worried about the outcome.

Yxalitis, I have to say I share the concern- I didn't when the campaign was smaller and he was just casting already sculpted items in resin instead of metal. But with all the stretch goals... yeah, scale creep hit this campaign hard. I hope he can fulfill it well... But I decided on the lowest pledge level, partly due to available funds, but also due to wanting to see how he fares as this progresses.

Yeah, due to my work situation becoming a bit uncertain I had to drop out at a pretty early stage; it was painful at first as the minis are so nice, but as the campaign grew... and grew... and grew... I actually started feeling I might be in the right place after all. I really, really hope it works out for Andy, but I must say I pretty much agree with yxalitis concerns.

The dragon was a real outlier that hit a perfect storm of problems; from metal prices suddenly rocketing after a pre-order price promise wiped out profit, to unexpected demand.

I've met him only in passing at Gencon, but Andy is dwarflike in his stubbornness to deliver on his promises; I've no doubt he'll get things done.

I don't think there's been one business that hasn't been in dire straits at some point in its lifetime. It's a credit to Andy that he's chosen not to give up in hard times. I think he'll pull through. Dwarven stubborness indeed!

The problem is there were solutions and help available he didn't utilise.

Rob from Mierce Miniatures has stated that he could have cast the dragon no problem, and he knows Andy...
Creator Mierce Miniatures 1 day ago
@Yx - Sad to say that Tim and the boys could have cast that Heresy dragon in their sleep, and a long time ago...

Looking at large minis from other companies, it's clear that Andy could have cleared his massive backlog years ago if he simply sought help from other casters in the business.

Clearly not enough.

OK, this was not a kickstarter with bonuses and discounted stock. The dragon was purchased at full price by the vast bulk of buyers, giving a massive windfall of money.
No % loss to Kickstarter, straight to Andy.

At £200 per dragon, and over 200 orders (I know that some of the first orders were at a lower cost), Andy had over £40,000 to get the casting sorted.

But by his own admission a lot of that money went to other debts, leaving him broke AND with a massive backlog of unfulfilled orders.

Now he has another £40,000 to get:
All the remaining dragons cast and shipped.
All the new KS bonuses cast
Extra sculpts to be completed, moulded, and cast.

All I say is...Good Luck!

A lot were at half-cost - I don't know what proportion they were, but all the initial preorders way back when were £100 each. Even without other debts, he realised that wasn't going to be enough per dragon to break even, but it was a bit late by then. It was a hard lesson, and I'd give him the benefit of the doubt that he learned it.

Extra sculpts to be completed, moulded, and cast.

A wee bit of that might be farmed out.

We've kind of settled into putting non-new-game kickstarters into whatever other forum they fit in, with pure miniatures campaigns going into Dakka Discussions. It's not perfect, but otherwise Misc Games gets completely overwhelmed with all the miniatures Kickstarter threads!

Shouldn't both Mierce and Dreamforge Games be in here as well? They both fit into that category, and older campaigns like SWM Tablescapes and TGG were moved to Dakka Discussions, so I can't really see why the other two are still in N&R.

Dreamforge's original thread was moved, but a new one was made anticipating retail releases (and there have been some, although wave 3 talk overwhelmed it). Similarly with Mierce, they have a decent number of retail releases to discuss (it's what the last page of discussion is about) but I agree their thread may need a reboot as the OP is so Kickstarter focused.

The idea is companies can have a thread for their normal releases, we just usually move any thread that was Kickstarter-only. If Andy releases the dragon at normal / non-preorder price, or the like, it could be a great reason to start up a new Heresy N&R thread. There actually is one of these in N&R right now! See here:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/629201.page

But since this thread was really about the Kickstarter only, it got moved when finished.

It's not a perfect system - Dreamforge will solve itself with their last wave being done and their plan to do normal releases. Mierce is harder since their discussion (retail and Kickstarter) is all jumbled together... Kingdom Death has this issue, too, with threads in both places (ostensibly, N&R for regular releases, Misc Games for their Kickstarter progress, but again they tend to get mixed).

We generally want to move Kickstarter only threads, which are less accessible to newcomers who missed it, out of N&R, but allow those companies (like any other) to have a new thread about releases if they wish. So, those three (Dreamforge, Mierce, Kingdom Death) all did that. Again, Mierce is the hardest to peg down, since they're so mixed. A few smaller companies have used their normal thread to talk about a Kickstarter, and returned to discussing regular releases after, and some of those remain since they are not only devoted to the limited-time Kickstarter discussion.

If you have suggestions, please PM... we're open to ideas! But it's probably better to hash them out not in this thread.

Update time. Any of you here who haven't filled out the Pledge Manager on the webstore best snap to it..

Update #39 from Return Of The Monsters!

Oct 2 2015
Mmmm...maggoty
Maggotmen Now Squirming Out Into The World

Minion Dan has now started to cast the resin figures, which is freeing up my time to finally sit down and get things really sorted with the tweaking and moulding. The Maggotmen and Waspquitoes are now in production and we have almost completed the amount of packs we need to fulfill all the pledges that people have put through so far on the Pledge Manager Store. Today, Dan will be packing the 40 or so pledges that have been waiting for Maggotmen and Waspquitoes and these will begin to arrive around the world over the next week or so, depending on your local mail service's efficiency!

Meanwhile, this weekend, I shall be making master moulds for the Hellbeasts and the Netherlord Mk 1 (and hopefully some of Azaroth's arms, weapons and wings as we have a huge pile of his body just waiting for parts) with a view to making production moulds of those bits over the next week or so. the NL1 is one of the primary models holding most pledges back (we've got a LOT of Pantheon pledges to fill!) so once he's in production we will be shipping a great many more pledges at last.

Predictable Money Woes

Unfortunately, at this moment in time, I am going to have to do something I didn't want to and start adding *some* of the figures from the Kickstarter to the regular shop as pre-orders - the ones that we've got in production and whose true costs are now known. We've got piles of Trolls, Minotaurs, Slugs, Hellmites, Spiders and Maggotmen that are surplus to requirements or can't all be sent out because the pledges are waiting for Netherlords, Azaroths Hellbeasts etc. By this point in the original plan the KS was supposed to be fulfilled and everything available in the shop to keep money coming in. Thanks to the Dragon taking longer than expected, that hasn't happened. Between the lack of new stuff and all the other KS projects active right now, diverting miniatures orders away from regular orders, I am out of funds to the point where I just had to pay the workshop rent out of my personal overdraft and have been unable to pay myself or Dan's wages. So I am forced to add some of the stuff to the regular shop. None of it will ship to regular people until we have cast enough of each model to cover the KS pledges that have been made, so it will all be pre-order for eg December, but once we have cast up eg 98 packs of Maggotmen to cover the pledges and then have some to play with, non-KS backers will start receiving theirs in the post alongside KS backers. (Speaking of which , Dan will be packing about 40 pledges today, so there will be a lot of Maggotmen and Waspquitoes arriving around the world over the next week or so). If you want what's available out of your pledge NOW rather than wait for Netherlords and Hellbeasts etc, I am happy to send it out - but you will need to pay another dose of shipping to get the rest later. email me andy@heresyminiatures.com with your KS pledge number from your email receipt eg 100999 and let me know that that's what you want to do. Over the weekend i will be making master moulds for Hellbeasts, Azaroth (He just needs his arms and another wings mould, we have a huge pile of bodies cast) and Netherlord mk 1 with production moulds following over the next week.

Pledge Manager Store Closing!

Also, now that some stuff will be on the regular shop, I will have to close the KS pledge shop because I can't support the lower prices on it - people will always try to buy stuff at the cheaper price on the Pledge Manager if it's more on the regular shop!

I can't stress this enough (literally) - because there are still 90 or so of you who simply have not bothered to put their pledge through, even though all you need to do is decide what you wanted for your pledge amount, and then pay the shipping! You have one week to do it before the pledge manager store closes!

Read the instructions carefully (most of you have emailed me to say the code doesn't work when you haven't added the pence to your pledge eg 00 on the end or haven't taken the spaces out of your username or kept the capital letters) and choose what you wanted for your pledge, enter your unique pledge redemption Code in the Redemption Code box on the Payments page (Don't use Paypal Express button, just use regular Paypal when the option comes up) and choose the shipping option for your country.

The Pledge Manager Store, which has been open since March IIRC, will close next weekend, ie the 11th of October 2015. Get your pledges sorted out! Please!

Update folks-

Where are we now?
Update. #40 Jan 16th 2016

Where does the time go?

There have been a few surprising setbacks from unexpected directions in the last six months, such as Meatpie the Fat Ogre having some different fault go wrong in each of 4 moulding attempts that prevented me from getting a high quality casting each time we've tried (BIG seam line down the legs, for instance, easily cleaned off but not at the high standards to which I hold Heresy) but by and large things are still progressing slowly but surely. At the moment I am trying to spin a lot of plates and do little bits on everything to try and keep everyone content that yes, their pledge is being worked on, but I'm now focusing on the little fiddly details that are holding back several kits: the Centaur (new hands, thicker spear and improved arms that aren't just tubes should be the last tweak needed - just making sure the joins are up to scratch with him this weekend), the Deathball Ogres (all new arms and hands in addition to the tweaks made to the torso and legs - the previous DB Ogre hands are too dated, being massive beyond all measure in my 2005 style, so I've made smaller ones with new punch-weapon options and ones that don't have weapons at all, which I can then use on any brand new DB ogres or regular ogres that I make), Skullsmasher (subtly changed the pose of the right arm so that it looks less Bruce Forsyth and more head-down shoulder-charge as well as tweaking a few muscles and the hooves so that they are more cow and less banana, improved fitting on the head options) and I've finished tweaking the KS-exclusive Original Ogre With Club so that it looks the same but better (again, humongous hands replaced and some tweaks so that the body looks a smidgeon more anatomically plausible compared to the original metal one).
Spoiler:

Hellbeast master-casting painted by Steve Wingate. This head is a bit tricky to mould and I will need to make several moulds of it to meet the pledges.
Spoiler:

Original Ogre With Club: New hands, arms, weapon and some improvements to the head. Promised myself I wouldn't touch this model, which was supposed to be a straight resin copy of the original, but I couldn't not do it.

Still To Come

The next couple of weeks I will be mastering the above models, and also making production moulds for them and Azaroth the Fallen One's arms, weapons, head and tail. Azzie's wings and body have been in the casting queue for some time - all the bodies are done, the wings are about halfway through the required amount but need new moulds. Startlingly, Azaroth needs more moulds than the massive Dragon kit that delayed everything in the first place, although, thankfully, the moulds are a tiny fraction of the size of the dragon's ones!

In Production But You Don't Know It Because Your Pledge Is Actually Waiting For Something Else That Is Holding It Up

Everything on this picture with a green tick is in production. Everything with a Red Dot is about to be finished ready for mastering, or about to be mastered, or about to go be production moulded in the case of Azaroth's bits. Everything with a blue dot is next in line after the red dot items are done, and the black dots are the ones I haven't really started yet. Such is the nature of sculpting, and queues, and being a one-man band and all that.
Spoiler:

Current status as of Jan '16

Madame Ner'Gabba

After Azaroth, the next big challenge to finish is Madame - her numerous tentacles take a lot of time - those suckers (literally) have to be neat and tidy to make them look right, and it takes hours of careful sculpting. I've more or less finished the four main head-tentacles, but there are going to be a lot of little 'fronds' ones to work out. I've been posting Instagram pics for those waiting fore her so you can see how she's doing. She is hilariously improved over the initial green sketch that i did, so I think everyone who's waiting for her will be well chuffed with what they end up with. I think she may be my most 'painterly' model yet by the time she's done.
Spoiler:

Hard to capture her properly. But you'll love her when she turns up.
The Tunnel Dweller

The main body sections are cast up and ready, just fiddling with the arms to make them fit and detailing the new Ant-head alt option. Also trying to work out if I can get his scythe to cast in either one piece or at least some version that is easier to put together as most people did not like the old metal version's assembly method.

Netherlord II and Winged NL2

I'd gotten about halfway through fixing up the NL2 so far before I put it aside to do the things above as so many people were asking about them via email. It'll be first on the list after Madame is done. I haven't started the Wings for it yet, but am fairly optimistic that they won't take too long to sort out once started; I learnt a lot about wings doing the dragon and these ones should be a lot smaller (about 1/3rd the size!). I'm dying to see what the NL2 will look like with wings, even though that kit is another KS-Exclusive one and only a handful of people want it. I will be using the wings on a future Netherlord kit after the dust has settled on the KS stuff.

Deathball Monsters and Boris

The remaining DB monsters (Elfbane and the two Boris models) are on the list once the DB ogres and Skullsmasher are sorted - the DB Cyclops is ready to mould, though, so that'll be master moulded next week alongside them, hopefully. I say hopefully because it's going to get mighty cold in the workshop next week and this will affect the silicon somewhat. The DB Borises and Elfbane are a fairly easy task - just need fitting and filling and then moulding; I shan't need to monkey around with them too much. Only a couple of people wanted these figures which is why they were left almost until last.

Angel and B'Hakoth/ Light VS Dark diorama

The Angel is actually quite far along, I've already fitted his wings to his back properly, but I need to work out how to subtly attach him to a flying stand - he was always a 'Supply Your Own Brass Rod' model before but i feel I should change that for the resin kit. B'Hakoth realyl just needs fitting together, there's not a lot to tweak on him. The diorama version of these two has not been started yet - this will mainly be a new set of legs (Angel) and torso (B'Hakoth) combo part so that they are linked together properly. I did want to make a tower but I don't think I can bring it in under £75.00 with one of those in the kit so It'll be some sort of scenic base, I think.

So, as you can see, we're almost there with the tweaking and fixing, just a few big beasties to get to grips with. As suspected, most of the pledges will start to be ready all at once as the moulds come into production, especially with Azaroth and the Hellbeasts in play.

If you want whatever part of your pledge is ready now, let me know, I will have to charge you a secondary amount for shipping if the pledge is split, but other than that it's no problem!

All the best,

Andy

The Madame is really excellent, and I can't think of many comparable models out there - especially not at that size!

Each and every one of these is going to be a painting project of love, they have so much character to them. Part of me wishes that Andy subcontracted for other companies (but given complete artistic freedom) purely so that he could dedicate all of his time to putting out sculpts of this calibre.

I'm one of the Pantheon pledges, so when that box eventually does turn up, it'll be a big'un.

Well, the Madame is done, being cast and up on the site for pre-order. £100 for a quite titantic chunk of resin, that apparently tears through those moulds like no-one's business!
