Hey guys, since I'm new to all this I thought I'd try and keep myself organised and motivated by doing a blog. That way I can keep track of my progress and how (if) I get any better over time.
So any comments and criticisms and tips are welcome
Here's all my collection of minis so far. That is:
Umm.. for the blue I did: Base coat in Turquoise. Then added Ivory to the mix to highlight. Then adding more Ivory and White. Then pure white at the end.
Exact ratios I'm not sure as I kinda wing it as I go. I'm using Vallejo paints.
Finished my Wildcats yay. Here they are. Let me know what you think.
Thanks Paradigm!
Your stuff is looking good over on your blog too.
Just finished my Interventors plus some pandas!
My first time painting flesh so the skin tones and the faces are a bit messed up lol. I'm ok with how they look from a distance but might try and redo them later.
Some close ups:
male
I like how his visor turned out.
Shame I couldn't do it on the female. (all that paint clogging up detail oops)
female (sorry for the man-face)
Pandas (too cute!)
And lastly:
My Icestorm arrived yay! Time to get working on it. Will post pics later
Looking good! I have to admit the 'bots are one of the bits of the Infinity aesthetic as a whole that I'm not a fan of, but still nicely painted! The Interventors are looking great, I'm getting a RoboCop vibe from the male one.
Curse you for having Icestorm mine won't arrive for another week or so! Looking forward to seeing what you make of the minis in the box!
@Paradigm, heh well I'm jealous of you Space hulk! lol, your pics are tempting me but the price gets me ><
Update #4 Intruders
Intruder Assault Commandos! Got these bad boys painted up
Lovely models and I love the poses and they have so much detail! They have something going on all over the model. Was a bit tricky to paint because half the time I wasn't sure what I was painting lol. But I'm happy with how they came out. Looking very menacing
And some individual shots:
Rifle Intruder
Sniper Intruder
Also put together my Icestorm stuff yay
For those wondering about the new scale of the minis. Yeah they are big. Maybe not that noticeable from afar but up close you can tell. Here are some scale shots:
For the guys
Edit: Left to Right: Intruder, Mobile Brigada, Wildcat, Alguacile, Interventor
The wildcat is sure looking tiny. Granted he is slightly hunched but the Mobile Brigada's thighs are as big as his chest.
For the gals
Edit: Left to Right: Wildcat, Reverend Healer, Alguacile (old), Alguacile (New), Interventor
The reverend healer is either really tall compared to the poor nomad hacker who is really petite lol.
And to finish up a couple pics of my painted nomads
As, postage permitting, I should have my first Nomad stuff next week, would you mind posting a recipe for your red? I've tried a few times to get that clean, bright look, but not managed to, so any tips would be great!
Thanks! And sure thing : ) I think it's close to the official colours. Though I think my process is a bit drawn out lol.
so basically its sort of like this: 1 base hull red 2 go over with hull red + bloody red 3 full bloody red 4. bloody red + ivory highlight 4.1 bloody red + bloody red + ivory to blend it back into the previous layer.
(Usually when I do this it makes the red pop a bit more as the mid tone between the layers is more red going over an ivory layer so its like painting red over white to get a brighter look. Not as much as painting over straight white but a good amount for me. Also when I do it this way I dont need to layer on lots of layers of bloody red which I find is hard to get a smooth layer. It mixes and covers better with a mix with ivory I find.)
5. +more ivory into the mix for progressive highlights. and may go back and try blending as above. 6. add a bit of white for final highlights. 7. touch of pure white for extreme highlight if need be.
Usually don't need that many layers or highlights for smaller surfaces but for the mobile brigada he has lots of large smooth plates on his armour so it lets me get a bit more in.
Hope that helps. I'm no expert lol
Edit: Oh Hull Red, Ivory, White are Vallejo Model Colour. Bloody Red is from Vallejo Game Colour
I really like the clean, crisp color scheme you've got going on with your models. The Robo-pandas look almost terrifying to me, for some reason. It's the eyes. Still looking great.
Paradigm wrote:Cheers, I'll give that a shot if my copy of Icestorm ever arrives!
Cool! Looking forward to seeing them. Let me know how it goes
Warboss_Waaazag wrote:I really like the clean, crisp color scheme you've got going on with your models. The Robo-pandas look almost terrifying to me, for some reason. It's the eyes. Still looking great.
Thanks lol! Kinda like the creepy doll you see in the halllway in the middle of the night.. "come play with us..."
Knightley wrote:Those Pandas are far tooooo cute to be combat effective!
I agree! I'm not sure what they do in game but I'd play them just for that reason
MHVB wrote:Really nice colours here, and those models are absolutely beautiful!
Thanks mate! I saw some of your conversions! that stuff is crazy
Update #6 Mobile Brigada
Here he is 95% finished. Just need to paint that bit of rubble hes standing on and base him. I think he is my new favourite mini. Gotta say I'm proud of how he came out. Think I'm getting better at this painting thing
Piccies:
Coincidentally this pic is of the same angle as above. Makes it easier to see the before and after
So this week I got the Doc painted up and his little helper bot. At first I wasn't a fan of the cat model but after painting it, it's growing on me. I think I just have a soft spot for all my painted minis
Pics of the Tomcat:
And here's the catbot:
bikini armour o.o
Pics show a few things I need to fix up but for the moment I kinda want to get onto the rest of my Icestorm stuff
Nice work! I must be missing something on the list, though, as I thought you could only have 10 models per Combat Group and there's 11. Been a while since I read those rules though, as I`m not near that point yet!
@ Paradigm: Yeah just as carlos said. The zondcat comes attached to the tomcat as a package. It's basically an extension of him so he can work through the cat on the battlefield.
@ carlos13th: When are you getting your icestorm package? Looking forward to what you do to it
Next Update #9 Alguacile
So got my first alguacile from icestorm painted up. All the new icestorm stuff is so much easier to paint then the older stuff. It's not just the size but all the details are much sharper and people who like washes a lot will love them, the grooves and cuts are all deeper, faces better defined etc. The mobile brigada and this model came out a lot better then some of the older stuff imo. The new stuff is definitely a step above.
Here's some pics of the alguacile along the way to completion
First the basecoats:
That's bloody red for the red, black for the black (duh) and flat earth for the leather straps etc.
Next the highlights on the red:
Then highlighting the black/grey:
Finally all the finishing details. The leather, face, gun, etc. I still have no idea on how to paint faces ><. Still experimenting.
Now ready to be based!
Working on the rest of the alges now. Will post them up later on.
Looking good! I agree these are great models to paint up, washes work magic on these guys and the faces are so sharp. My advice would be to use a very thin red/purple wash on the skin, it sounds odd but really does work once you get the balance right.
Thanks! The faces are great but they're the hardest part for me. Definitely a good learning experience though. I'll definitely give that a go.There's probably some deep colour theory explanation for it which I don't know lol
It's not so much colour theory, more just the fact that even working from a tan basecoat, the highlights usually go up to an off-white which will look 'cold' and pale. The red/purple tone just adds a little more warmth to it, giving the impression of something living rather than lifeless.
Yeah that's my main problem. It either gets too white or too yellow and I keep going back and forth trying to fix it lol. Would it work for darker skin tones too? Or should I go a different route.
For darker skins I tend to highlight up to just below the tan that I use to basecoat lighter skins, and then hit it with a brown wash. It has the same effect of making the tones richer, but works better.
I tried the wash thing and it did help tone it down a lot. Thanks! Atm I'm painting another alguacile just got the face left to do lol. going for a darker tone so we'll see how that goes.
lol carlos lets hope its not Dec 2015. Worth the wait though! That'll be a fun boxing day for you
Automatically Appended Next Post: Update #10 More Alguaciles
So here's my next Alguacile done.
Still experimenting with skin tones. But I'm happy with how he turned out.
First mini where I've tried to dot some eyes on. You can't really see it in other pictures because of the shadows but here you can just see I managed to put a bit of white there. Things were getting too tiny for me so I couldn't get any pupils on lol. Soulless white eyes it is but I think it's ok.
First off here's another pic of my alguaciles together.
They're like two buddy cops in an action movie.
And here's my next finished Alguacile! The Alguacile Hacker from the Corregidor starter and she is one tiny model!
Not sure if you can see it here but I tried to put some pink into her cheeks and lips on her face.
Pic of her butt:
Here's some WIP pics of the other female alge from icestorm. I was actually painting the ladies together so she should have been finished too but halfway through her arm decided to randomly fall off T_T. So I had to stop and make repairs and she got left behind. Oh well. Got the red done on her at least.
GrimDork wrote:Can definitely see the work on the lips, looks good. I think my eyes are failing me on the other details but I'm sure she's quite good in person
Your Corrigedor stuff is going to look great when you've got a full team assembled.
Thanks
In your defense it's probably my fault with some shoddy painting in some areas hah! And some of the details are very shallow on the model like the hacking device on her back and the details on the backpack. She was a bit harder to paint. I feel spoiled after painting the Icestorm stuff lol.
Paradigm wrote:Even more great stuff, and pretty damn fast too!
I found those arm joints on the female Alguacile from Icestorm were a real nightmare to stick together, so I'm not surprised it fell apart.
The skin on the hacker is brilliant, you've really got the hang of that now!
Not as fast as you! I got a whole three models painted in week compared to your Icestorm lol.
Maybe I should pin the arm but drilling metals models.. zzz ... it'll be fine
Thanks! Good thing about keeping a blog is I kind see my improvements over time. Practice practice practice . You tips helped a lot. I was experimenting a bit and basically i add a tiny bit of skin wash to my paints for each of the highlights/layers etc and it works pretty well!
You guys talking about your flesh tones is getting me amped up to try harder for the rest of my Infinity stuff when I get back around that way. I love 'dueling' P&M blogs
Just kidding. Seriously, though, I agree about the 'competition' between us bloggers is very inspirational. Especially with all the Infinity stuff exploding onto the scene at the moment, it's a great time for all of us painters!
^It certainly is a great time! I'm hoping to do some serious catch-up with the operation Icestorm stuff. Or at least some of my existing nomads. Kind of hard to say no to Corrigedor as nice as you two have been making them look though
Lovely ladies. Got the two of them on order now so it's nice to see someone else painting them before I tackle that job. Any issues apart from the arm?
Nice! looking forward to it. Do you mean issues with this model in particular or the Icestorm stuff? Other then the random arm incident she's all good . She's easier to paint than the older alguaciles for sure.
Almost finished painting her so I'll post pics soon.
Tried to paint the eyes on this one. Semi-successful lol.
I missed this mold line on her face :( Even if I caught it I don't think I'm skilled enough to remove it without wrecking her face. I guess that's another thing to watch out for Casey
And a group shot with the rest of them:
Hope you like 'em. What to paint next. Finish my Nomads or start my PanO stuff. Just picked up some Yu Jing too so hmm.. Thoughts & comments welcome
Fantastic job, they all look great. Tackling those eyes sounds terrifying! I'll keep that face mould line in the back of my mind thanks. My colour scheme is going to be chrome and olive drab with pink as a spot colour. Annoyingly I need to paint the metal first then work around it.
As for what to do next: Nomads, Nomads, Nomads. Nooomaaads! Moar Nomads is always best.
Looking good ckig, I'm leary about trying the pink hair myself, but you did great with it. Finish up the nomads is what I'd recommend, then start on your other armies. That way it will look more unified before you take a break and then come back and try to do the second part of the army.
Ok! I am (easily) convinced! I'll finish up my nomads

Yeah it was my first time painting pink. I was worried about it ending up too light/white. So I think shading it was key. I shaded it by adding a tiny bit of red ink into the pink to shade.
Finally completed her. Amazing mini by the way and a joy to paint. A lot of different surfaces to paint if you want to be creative.
So here she is. Enjoy!
Looking very mean!
She has lots of little details, straps, belts, (she even has a priest's collar!) etc.
Painting white was a bit difficult. First time painting it on larger surfaces and on cloth. So it took a long time and a lot of trial and error lol. Hope it turned out ok.
Very Assassin Creed vibe.
Nice legs.
And lastly,
I enjoyed it. Hope you enjoy it. On to the next!
Thanks!
This has helped me in some cases:
Paint the face first before you do anything else so you can afford to be sloppy. In fact, start on the eyes very firs thing. Then, paint the whole eye black(or if you prefer a color). Then you can take white and make larger strokes down the sides of the eye to reduce the black down to the correct size and shape. When you paint the rest of the face your larger white strokes will go away.
I usually forget to do it like that, but it *can* really help. And then sometimes particular faces/eyes are just hard to do no matter what you try

That sounds like a REALLY good idea, and I'll definitely be giving it a go next time - thanks!
Just one of many pearls of wisdom to find wider reach thanks to DakkaDakka! I'm not entirely sure where I saw it first but along with slowly increasing brush control from years of being in the hobby, it helps.
He was pretty simple to paint since he is done in the same scheme as my tunguska interventors so keeping it mostly black/dark grey. So he's pretty close to the default scheme.
I probably should have painted him first before putting him together lol. Now there's a big gun in the way
So I decided to put some white on coat and shoulders. Not sure about it yet. I'll see how it goes. Maybe I'll switch it back to black. Is that too much black? Not that it's a bad thing I guess. Works well on some other minis. I'll probably keep the mask white though. What do you think?
Looking good, and I think the white works. I went very dark grey and black on mine as I figured a Sniper would want to be as inconspicuous as possible, but on the other hand, he's a Nomad, so likely to be showing off.
"Haha, look at me, in my bright colours standing the open! Oh, wait, you can't, I just shot your eyes out!"
Really lovely stuff, should get on with my PanO but they keep getting taken downstairs for games, so when I sit down to paint, the other projects are too conveniently close in comparison.
I definitely think your whites are coming out crisp, I'm hoping the better sculpts will help when it comes to doing mine, fortunately only the nisse has a big amount to do.
Edit: Meant to add, grenzers looking lovely, wouldn't worry about the gun, lets face it angel seems to paint them assembled and if it's good enough for him... White highlights look good to me, gotta make em pop for the tabletop.
@Ignatius: lucky you. I still haven't played a game yet xD. Maybe when N3 comes out I'll find someone to play with lol. About the whites, hope it helps with yours!
@Cave_Dweller: Ha! Another reason why nomads are best
So I've finished up the Grenzer finally. Yay!
Update #16 Grenzer!
Taking aim:
Glowing ribs which you can only see from this angle lol
Here's the "white" cloak done. What do you think?
So...the helm is actually red now lol. Tried white at first but it turned out too "white" compared to the cloak and looked off. So I changed it. Now he looks like my intruder heh.
Overall was a joy to paint.
So that's the last of the Icestorm nomads done! Hooray! Here's the family all together.
Hope the pic came out ok. May have to click to zoom in.
So what's left for the nomads. Well, I should finally get around to finishing the Iguana and his mini-me. And also got some more TAGgy goodness with some geckos
Paradigm wrote:Very nice! They look great all together!
Any plans to work on the Pano? Also, I noted the Yu Jing symbol in your sig, what do you have lined up from them?
Thanks
I'll probably get onto the Pano after this batch of nomads. I've primed them and they've been neglected since . Not sure entirely how I'll paint them though. And yes! I just got some Yu Jing. Caught the infinity bug lol D: Bunch of Imperial Service stuff. The Imperial agents are some of my favourite models. Thought they're tiny, I'll try get some pics later. And getting ready for the new Heavy infantry coming out.
GrimDork wrote:Ooooh, I can not wait to see you do an Iguana and Gekkos in this scheme
Iguana was the first mini I painted heh. Though I'm wondering whether I should redo him. His red is a bit different since I was still experimenting and I feel like I could do a better job now. I'll see how the geckos stack up next to him first though. It's been a while since I painted a big mini ('big' for me. Nothing like your BSR )
Casey's Law wrote:Immense, I love that cloak.
Now... Gecko! Gecko! Gecko!
Thanks! Glad the cloak worked out okay
It's only gecko! gecko! I'm afraid I only have two
GrimDork wrote:There's my brain for you, and I even remember seeing it now! Cool then I look forward to seeing your Gekko, but how did you end up with only one?
I do in fact have two! You might have misread silly brain

Sorry if you've said it before but what's your recipe for the blue lights/ glory bits?
No problem at all!
It's very simple actually. I base in turqoise. Add a bit of ivory, highlight. Add a bit of white, highlight. Then pure white, top highlight. All my paints are VMC
Casey's Law wrote:Gecko, Gecko is better than no Gecko although my preference is Gecko, Gecko, Gecko, Gecko whenever possible.
Gecko.
mmm Geckooo. *Nods sagely*

Hah! Thanks for the very kind compliment But your stuff looks great!
Update #17 Bits and Pieces
Not much of an update today I'm afraid. Monday night hobby timeis now a new hobby with the ladyfriend. i.e. salsa dancing.. or me gracefully fumbling around on two left feet
Did manage to get a bit of the base down on the Iguana man
So you may notice he is missing a piece. His ammo belt wasn't as flexible as a thought it would be lol. Snapped trying to get it in place ><. Something I'll have to fix when I can.
You may also notice behind him in pieces
Gecko! Well Gecko-to-be..
Cleaned up my first Gecko. Wanted to start putting him together but I ran out of glue lol. So I'll need to get some to fix the Iguana man too.
Also, drilling metal pieces with a pin vice takes forever
Oh and 'cause I said I'd show do it. Size comparison of the tiny Yu Jing fellow.
His arms were torn off by the giants next to him. He's smaller than the CSU figure (which I think that's the smallest in Icestorm)!
Anyway, that's all. Hopefully more stuff gets done in future
Thanks!

The size creep in INFINITY is getting a bit...worrying.
@RedHarvest: Yeah those thighs could crush that CG (Not that I mind them ). Hoping to get started on the PanO soon! Pretty much done with my nomads for now
@Alpharius: Yeah the difference in scale is kind of off-putting. Makes me wary of buying the older stuff.
@Casey: Agreed! Gecko is coming together slowly. Will get on it soon..
@Grim: Haha yeah I'm not very good at painting multiple things at once. After the basecoat I kind of just focus on one mini at a time.
Sorry I haven't been on much past few days. Been a bit busy. Have managed to finish my Iguana Pilot so my Iguana is now ready (finally).
Update #18: Iguana Pics
Bunch of pics incoming
Some WIP pics which I didn't have time to upload before. I'll spoiler tag these so it's not too spammy.
Spoiler:
Painting all the red.
And onto the black/grey.
And finished pics: Finally added the ammo belt back in. A little wonky since it snapped and isn't all that flexible so I didn't want to mess with it too much.
And a pic with his Big Brother To me there's a big difference between the two since the TAG was the first mini I painted. The highlights aren't as strong and a bit dulled by the varnish. I think I'll have to redo him at some point.
Also Gecko: Half a gecko. I'll have to paint it in pieces since the big arms get in the way of the little arms. And the head is hard to paint in its little groove.
Okay! That's all! Hope you like it. Thanks for reading
Looks great! That is one really cool mini. If I ran an Iguana, I'd likely try and ensure he gets blown up so that awesome dude can eject and hit the table.
Nice job on Iggy Man, there really is nothing wrong with Iggy either, you could probably go back in with the highlights over what you have now if you want a better match.
And the Gecko takeover begins. Soon everyone shall have Gecko and rejoice in unison. Did you find the legs were a massive pain in the backside? I have 4 and all the leg joins are gappy. Think I'm going to snip off the pegs to try for a better fit by eye.

Yeah I might just go back and re-highlight the big guy. I have a soft spot for him so I don't want to do a complete do-over.
And yep the legs for all my tags including the iguana were very gappy. Left leg fits perfect and the other is a mess. :\
Yep that damn right leg, it's as if it's for an entirely different miniature. Haven't done the Iggy yet but I can't remember as much of an issue with the Lizzy or Szally.

ckig wrote: @ Casey: I just put my second Gecko together and both legs fit perfectly :O. Maybe I was just lucky, or you were very unlucky lol.
Good news! Think it might be luck though. Doing the maths, we've had 6 Geckos between us, one of which had legs that fit on without issue. It's hard to be upset at Gecko though.
Update #19 I painted a leg! So... been taking my sweet time painting my gecko. I got his leg done in the same time it took me to paint a smaller mini lol.
Here is... The Leg.
Actually I'm surprised at how it came out. I'm really happy with it.
Some close up angles
Spoiler:
I don't know why I took these lol. For me own reference I guess but here they are.
Those thighs!
It's gonna take a while to finish the whole dude. And then I got another one after that. Yay!
Nice leg, you've really got your red/black scheme down I'm jealous. I think I'm just hardwired to be unable to do highlights in a similar way to your method, which sticks cause your stuff looks great
Nice leg, you've really got your red/black scheme down I'm jealous. I think I'm just hardwired to be unable to do highlights in a similar way to your method, which sticks cause your stuff looks great
Thanks! Haha though tbh I don't know much about my method either x). Varies a bit from mini to mini. Sometimes I just layer it which is fine for smaller minis imo but on something bigger like this guy it can get too streaky. So I try to blend it a bit or if I suck then I get a middle tone between the layers and try to fuzz the lines together :x if that makes sense lol. Like making a fuzzy motion with your brush. A lot of going back and forth for me to get the right colour and result. I guess you need patience too. I'm taking my time with this one.
Gorgeous work ckig - I'm seriously thinking about getting Operation: Icestorm for Xmas and this blog (along with some others on Dakka) are inspiring...
@ Ruglud - Thanks man! Means a lot ^^. I definitely recommend Icestorm
@ Miss Dee - Thanks for the kind words!
More progress on the Gecko coming up..
Update #21 Gecko WIP. Main Body complete!
Finished up the torso and the face!
Weird question here lol. Do you think I should paint his crotch in red or leave it in black? Am I just being picky?
Time to put on some arms I think!
Just gotta paint his backpack and attach some arms and yay done!
I guess I'll leave it black then. I did it black because I wanted some more separation between the red mass and the chunky red thighs. Also its easier to paint and highlight in the tight areas like his hips. Glad it's ok. Thanks for the feedback
Paradigm wrote:Stop being so damn good at this! You're making me want to buy Geckos!
Haha thanks. That's the plan! More geckos!
Miss Dee wrote:I think my next order will be two boxes of Tachicomas
I dunno what they are but it sounds funky
So I've started painting his arms a bit but can't glue them on yet till I paint his backpack. Which I shall do :x
Got some time tomorrow so hopefully I can knock this guy out then.
I always love seeing Infinity stuff so well painted, it brings me closer and closer to taking the leap into getting the figures. Other than buying the books is there a good source for the game's lore?
You say you finished the backpack but surely you meant to say missile pods?
Good thing because here he is more than a week after I said I wanted him done lol
Missile pods/backpack. Potato potato.
Theophony wrote:Call it what you like, I call it Purty , such smooth transitions and so nice, Angel would be proud of you.
Ha! Thanks very much! I love his work. Long way ahead of me but hopefully I'll get there one day

Thank you! You should get into it! There's some basic info about the factions and stuff online. I think their youtube channel gives a brief rundown. Plus the indiviual unit background is on the website. But like Alpharius said, the books are the best source
Paradigm wrote:Excellent, can't wait to see the whole ensemble!
Thanks! And coming right up

Yup, and so I got mine pre-ordered! Can't wait
Update #22 Gecko finally done!
Hey guys! Long time no update oops. Was pretty busy up till the weekend. Hope you all had a good one
And I finally got my gecko all painted up. Yay! About time
Here he is! Mr Gecko. Now with arms!
Nice n Shiny.
Side on. He is pretty thick.
Back view again. This time complete!
Painting the guns was a challenge. Getting the highlights right was difficult. Hopefully it's ok and shiny enough for you.
Squat little gecko face. Naww.
Okay so thats him done. I'm quite happy with him. After painting him I think he's my new favourite model hehe Though I think I'll take a break before getting onto his partner. Mrs Gecko. Maybe I'll just paint her here and there in between other stuff. This guy took a lot out of me as nice as he was to paint.
Beaurtiful work. You have done an amazing job, all round it just looks spot on, I think it is the subtle highlights that do it the most, your Black is a rich deep black because you have a subtle highlight over it, brilliant.
@ Grimdork: Thanks man! Nice to hear it fits in well
@ Camkierhi: Sometimes I think it's hard to see the highlights in the pics or I made them too subtle. I'm glad you noticed! ^^ Thanks!
@WorshiptheVoid: Thank you! You should definitely check out what Corvus Belli has to offer. They have some great models . It's great to have shown them to you
@ Paradigm: haha cheers. I agree! I'm most proud of this model too. It'll be hard to follow it up lol
@ Carlos13th: Thanks! And sure thing. I guess a few things that come to mind is:
Lots of patience and dedication. I laboured on this guy for many hours, really wanted to get him right. Since he's a bigger model he's more of an eyecatcher in the army so you want him to look nice. And I guess on bigger models it's easier to spot things. Some nights I didn't touch him because I knew I didn't have the time or the commitment to get a lot done and done well so rather than slap a bit of paint on him and leave him at that I'd wait till I had the time and was in the right mindset to push myself and get him painted up nice. Sounds weird but I do think your mentality can affect your painting.
Other things hmm, oh yeah, It's good to have references! Very helpful! Good to see where you're at and keep track of how your doing. It's also a good visual to see the result you want to get. So when I paint sometimes I pull up the official pics as a reference since I'm a big fan of Angel Giraldez's work. I'm nowhere near his level but I guess his pics are also an inspiration, and if you're wanting to get better there's no shame in trying to imitate others I think. It definitely helps guide me.
Hmm lastly, If it's something big like this model its good to break it down into smaller manageable parts when painting. Like not just sub assemblies but visualising each part as a bunch of different sections put together and painting each piece separately. For example if you look at his main body you can see how theres some lines that divide up the body into defferent panels alone the side and the top. I'd paint each panel separately after I got the basecoat down for them. So I'd focus on one small bit of the model and highlight that and get it right then move onto the next panel. Same thing with the gun. e.g. I'd paint the front, then the bottom, then the top railing, then the scope, the back, and the ammo all separately. Sounds like a long way to do things but *shrug* it's how I got it done and I could take a quick rest in between each section. Painting the red on the lower leg, I painted each side of the calf, then shin, then the band on the top.
Oh and If it's an important detail, I mostly used a 0 size brush to paint him. Used a size 1 for the base coats and broader highlights maybe but for the finer details and highlights and blending I used the smaller brush.
Hope all this helps lol and I'm not just being an idiot and saying stuff. If there's any specifics feel free to ask
@ Littletower: Thank you! Not sure what I'd call THE look hehe but I like it and I'm glad you like it too
@ Miss Dee: Thanks!
@ JoeRugby: Thanks mate! Hope to keep it up
Thank you guys for the wonderful comments. It's always nice to read them ^^
Grim, oh yeah, well.. I've already started on the last gecko lol. I won't bother with the minor WIP shots since they're pretty much the same. IBut I'll post him when he's done. I know I said I'd wait a while before painting it but then your comments gave me a second wind!
As for what else, I've got my pano stuff lined up next. Just put together some more bolts yay! It's gonna be weird painting something other than red and black hah.
Also went and got some new yu jing stuff to flesh them out a bit more. Some Bao and Mr Sun Tze.
I'm thinking of painting my Yu Jing in this scheme. I'm going by the colours of the main faction logos for my infinity stuff.
I'm gonna have to get one of these guys too... the oni is one of the minis that first drew me to infinity
And after my gecko's done I'm all out of nomads . What to do? Get more nomads! Wondering how I should expand. I have a few options in mind:
Option 1: Some robots. Sputnik remotes. Lunokhod and/or tsyklons. Best looking REMsimo. Pros: something different to infantry and TAGs, no scale issues with the bots, crazy koalas!
Option 2: Expand into Bakunin. Moiras and the custodier. Love their theme and my reverend healer won't look so out of place with these gals. Custodier is one of my favourite minis too.
Option 3: More Corregidor! Wait for the alguacile swc box and the hellcats blister. New alguaciles are great and very nice to paint.
Option 4: Bran, morlocks, uberfallkommandos. Hmm while I prefer the spacey look of the rest of the nomad range, these guys would be fun to paint I think. Each one is a very unique model, it'll be a challenge to paint the different skins, furs, etc. Plus I love the monkey king!
Option 5: Kaplans box and blister, then I can make a Qapu Khalqi list and it's my gateway into Haqqislam (uh-oh another faction D: ) Kaplans are cool. Mercs are cool in general heh.
What do you guys think? I guess I'm asking from a p&m perspective but maybe I'll ask over in the infinity subforum too for advice.
All of those things sound great ckig. I'd love to see you do the remotes, the observance, the freaky side of bakunin, or the kaplans Those are some of my favorite infinity minis and I have or intend to buy the lot of what you're considering aside from more corregidor.
Sputniks will be kind of similar to your Geckos I'm thinking.
Paint the observance ladies if you wanna paint capes and some skin.
Paint the morlocks and chimera if you wanna do some fur and a lot of different colors.
Paint the Kaplans if you want a nice stormtrooper/professional/srs-bidness soldier vibe.
And after my gecko's done I'm all out of nomads . What to do? Get more nomads!

Good points paradigm!
hahaha Grim i love how you picked 4/5 options xD. I do intend to get them all eventually as well hehe. But atm.. hard to choose!
Argh! I could have sworn I replied when you posted Mr Gecko! Well better late than never...
He's outstanding mate, absolutely beautiful job and I can't wait to see Mrs Gecko. I can understand how you might be a touch burnt out after it though so I'll be interested to see what happens in the mean time.
As to your question; there is only two right answers in any given situation. Bakunin or Gecko. So Bakunin it must be.
Hey guys! Apologies for the lack of updates Quite busy this time of the year. You know, family, presents and stuff. I know I'm just making excuses though
Hope you're all enjoying the holiday season
@ Theo: Hehe, well more gecko's could definitely happen in the future at some point. Can't get enough of them. xD
@ Miss Dee: Hah! That sounds like an awesome idea! I'd love to see it done
@ Casey: No problem! Actually I've been working a lot on my gecko. I haven't been totally idle! Must finish my nomads before the end of the year. :p
Guess I'll probably pick up some bakunin next! Moiras are looking good in N3.
Update #23: Another Gecko on its way!
So here's my next Gecko. Almost done! Actually a bit further done than this as I've been painting the last arm and chain colt bit separately. Wanted to show this pic seeing as how the front will get all covered up once it's all assembled.
Back view. Same as the other one I guess heh.
So once this is done there's some Pano coming up. This is how I'm thinking of doing the blue:
Base: Signal blue
Highlight: Prussian blue
Progressive Highlights: + Ivory
Top Highlights: White
Will be painting a fusilier to test this out and see how it goes. Other option is to use turqoise as a base instead like the blue on my nomads.
Hmm I'm gonna update the first post with the colours I use for my nomads as well so I don't forget when I come back to them (and for anyone else who's interested I guess )
Anyway thanks for reading. Oh and Happy Holidays everyone
Proving you hadn't just done it by chance, you did it again!
It doesn't look better than the first one - don't think it could -, but looks as awesome! And the family photo - I'd gone with twins, but Mr and Ms will do - is ace.
Here's some pics of my collection all together with Icestorm backdrop...becauuuse.. that's the only terrain I have lol.
TAG Powa!
I was going to touch up the Iguana instead before taking a pic but then you'd have to wait a while lol. This pic shows the difference between my early minis I think. Needs more shiny!
Corregidor family. Hard to photograph red. Hope it's ok D:
Its a bit shiny. May have to click to zoom :x
Yeah that is just a gorgeous looking force, clearly you should send some photos to Mr Giraldez and give him a fright that his job isn't as secure as he thought!
Paradigm wrote:Very nice collection there! Whoever you get to play against is in for a treat!
I too, wonder who that will be lol. Need to find some peeps to play with heh.
Theophony wrote:He "hopes its okay"
Wow, amazing work. I'd be jealous of your old method, but then seeing your more recent work stop being so good.
haha well I was referring to the photo quality but I'll take that compliment!
Camkierhi wrote:Such great painting, brilliant stuff.
Thanks man!
GrimDork wrote:Yep. Fantastic. /jealous
The old tag isn't quite as bling as the other two, but he's still rock solid.
Thanks! Yeah don't worry though. I'll get around to fixing him
Ignatius-Grulgor wrote:Yeah that is just a gorgeous looking force, clearly you should send some photos to Mr Giraldez and give him a fright that his job isn't as secure as he thought!
Haha what a compliment! Thanks! He's a totally different league but I appreciate it. Will get there though! I am tryin'.
Miss Dee wrote:Wow fab stuff.
Thank you ^^
Not much infinity to report unfortunately. Actually been messing around with some LotR stuff. I'm gonna need another blog I think :x
Some amazing models there! I really enjoyed seeing them, the Geckos are obv the big standout, absolutely A1 job there! But I also liked the Zondcat's paintjob, especially around the engine areas, and my favorite takeaway from reading everything was your point on mindset and how you feel your current mentality can affect your paintjobs. I am going to take this to heart and stop painting if/when it feels like work, or take a quick break and blast a couple of my favorite tunes or something to pick me up mentally.
Just finished my way working through the entire thread. I don't know much about Infinity, but that's one kick-arse looking force. You've done very nicely using the Black & Red + White palette in a really effective way. Well done!
So I'm feeling pretty lazy and wondering whether or not I should just put everything in one blog instead of upkeeping two. What do you guys think?
And also reposting from the other blog:
Starting my Yu Jing. Here's a test of some colours for Sun Tze. Not sure if I want to keep it. It's a bit more greeny fluoro than the pic. I like it but I don't like it :/

It looks good, but it's hard to place it in the context of the miniature as a whole without knowing the rest of the scheme/spot colours/etc.
