Salute 2015: 25 April @ ExCel London - POST YOUR SHOW REPORTS HERE @ 2015/02/07 12:05:51

Post by: Ruglud

Time for my annual Salute thread... To post updates and offers on the show as it's fast approaching...

Salute 2015 - @ ExCel London, 25 April

Doors open at 10:00 and the show closes at 17:00. Note, there will be NO bring and buy at Salute 2015

Salute Twenty Fifteen, run by The South London Warlords, is the biggest independent one-day wargaming and gaming event in the UK. Our aim is to promote the very best in the hobby. Held at ExCel London, there will be the usual traders, with some from overseas as well, along with plenty of demonstration and participation games to see and take part in. This year we have a limited edition 28mm Agincourt miniature, sculpted by the Perry Twins, to give away to the first five thousand through the door.

To help people get into the show quicker, this year we have introduced a E-ticketing system. These E-tickets are available now from our website, or Facebook

Advance tickets are £10.00, you can print your ticket at home or simply store it on your mobile device for scanning on the day.. Group discounts are available on advance tickets only, see website for details and information on E ticketing. Entrance for under-16s is free with a paying adult. On the day, there will be a Prize Draw for advance ticket holders only.

This year we have a queuing hall, which, once your E-ticket has been scanned, will allow you faster entrance to the show itself once the doors are open.

Tickets on the day will still be available on the door (CASH ONLY) and are £15.00

Went for the first time last year; already booked hotel and bought tickets for this year. :-)

Now to find the time to paint something for the competition.

Ooooh, Winterdyne entering the painting comp - that's gonna be awesome and worth the ticket price alone

Do you have last years freebie figure still - could enter that category (if you don't I might be able to 'donate' one - think I have a couple of them gathering dust...)

I also attended for the first time last year, it was truly amazing! I highly recommend it, bring your own food though. We meant to do so, forgot and promptly paid through our noses for the crap they serve at the ExCel.

edit: Winterdyne! I love your diorama work and I'd LOVE to see it in person, can't wait to see what you come up with though!

I meant to go last year, didn't get around to it in the end. Might go this year, bit put off by the crowds though - obviously Salute is the biggest in the UK but it is also the busiest too.

Worth contacting them to find out (sales@krmulticase.co.uk), they do say on their Facebook page that they will have some deals on offer for Salute, but don't specify what...
KR will be at Salute 2015 on the 25th April with some great new products for you and your miniatures. Be sure to come over and see us. Naturally we will have our incredible show deals on offer, and the regular visitors will know that they are not to be missed !

You can find KR in the same regular place on Stand TB08 for a great range of show deals and new products, just look for the big blue foam “KR” ! See the Salute website for the full hall layout.

Although we do bring plenty of stock, if you want to be certain of specific products on the day it is always a good idea to pre-order, you can do so by emailing KR at sales@krmulticase.co.uk.

And will we be doing a Golden Ticket again this year? Of course we will, it wouldn’t be the KR at Salute if we didn’t! – keep an eye out in your Salute Goody Bags for a chance to receive a KR Backpack2 completely free!

It's the same as last year:

1) April 26 AM: stuff as much cash as I can carry into my pockets, remorve Credit Card from wallet (mortgage protection reflex), leave for the Excel centre and it's barstead parking charges.

2) enter and queue at FW to collect order.

3) run around Excel centre like an insane plastic/resin buying machine.

4) April 26 PM: sit outside house in car looking at a pile of boxes wondering how I'm gonna explain it to the Mrs this time (you can win a raffle three years on the bounce can't you?)

Haha, yes that sounds like my trip last year. Salute is definitely the show where you buy..

I'm honestly thinking of switching everything to 15mm scale (maximum), think that scale is increasingly popular with older gamers as it makes it easier to hide stuff

That would certainly explain the 3 FoW armies I have in the loft.....maybe 10mm this year?

Forge World is though. Ho-hum, maybe it's the general notion that the punters of GW aren't welcome there?

Salute 2015: 25 April @ ExCel London - POST YOUR SHOW REPORTS HERE @ 2015/02/16 09:24:42

Post by: notprop

Nah, there's plenty of GW at Salute (not overpoweringly so), just not GW proper representing themselves.

Its a good balance I think. FW is sort of for serious gamers and I think this is who pitch up at conventions. A GW stand is a bit superfluous when their discounters all over the place at Salute.

No BL for a few years though. They probably have to pay the authors to turn up for that and I don't imagine they would sell a huge number of books to balance it with?

Are you going for the unusual huge stand again Rich or going for something really massive?

Probably a good time to advise all your good mates on Dakka of any super sweet Salute promotions we might want to take a gander at?

Deals still being finalised, but the ones I have approved are truly astounding All focussed on getting players into new games.

Lots of surprises as well in store.

The store as usual is quite large with demo tables and guests all around it.

We are at the limit with what we can get set up in the time allowed before the show and after so I wont ask for a larger stand. 4 Lorries is enough. Even though we are based near the Excel the effort to get us there is huge.

Great, I'll be going! I can ask PRODOS Games where my AVP KS Game is. I can potentially pick up my Antenocities KS Terrain.

I'd like to see at SALUTE, Sodapop minatures or Adam Poots with Kingdom Death but I guess it's too far to travel and too costly to bring stuff for a 1 day show. It would be nice to see Battlefoam there as well.

One company that always amazes me is Spartan Games. Considering SALUTE is the biggest Wargamming Con in the UK, they've still never had a stall there to advertise their games or sell any minatures????? Never understand this.

Nope, all one big, happy (although a bit tired and sweaty) wargaming family. Exactly as it should be!

Took advantage of some of your deals last year, looking forward to seeing what you have there this time!

Great that you have offers on, it's amazing how many stands don't and think we are still in 1994 where the punters are forced to pay full RRP at shows, and as if the internet doesn't exist(!)

Ah gak! You and your promos did quite well out of me last year!

On a separate note, I'm giving the Warhams a rest this year and will be looking for Kensei, Dropzone Commander, Malifaux and Hordes stuff this year, change of scenery so to speak!

Hawk Wargames stand last year was amazing and the development of the game since (and dropfleet!) makes it the stand i'm most looking forward to! Wayland and Troll Trader were great for perusing, just hope there's a table to match the epic beach landing one that spanned several tables in length!

Yes the Dropzone set up one was one of the highlights of the show, they had some good guys going demo games as well which were fun.

The saddest thing is going to be going to the Prodos stand, and seeing exactly the same miniatures and set-up that we saw last year.

Although there have been rumours of an April release to KS backers, so who knows?

Shame because there was a good chance of me getting some of their modular scenics...

I think this year for me will be all about flocks, terrain etc for my gaming table. Like all previous Salutes most my plans will be shattered once I arrive there. Just too many good minis everywhere you look.

Some news on Beasts of War about Salute, there had been talk of them having to change venue but looks like it will be staying at the Excel centre for the time being

http://www.beastsofwar.com/salute/salute-goin-folks/

After a weekend of people wondering if Salute 2015 was going to be the last at the ExCel and pondering on it’s future we’ve had confirmation that Salute isn’t going anywhere and it won’t be leaving the ExCel centre anytime soon either…

Salute 2015…so, never fear! Some members of the South London Warlords got in touch to tell us everything is hunky-dory when it comes to the venue and continued events for the foreseeable future.

In the mean time make sure to study that poster above and come along to Salute 2015 where the theme is going to be Agincourt! It’s great to see some medieval stuff going down and don’t forget we’ll be there covering the event with Live Blogs AND the big participation game for the Battle of Hoth. If Warren and Lloyd ever stop fighting over AT-AT colours that is…

Nice looking list of games and demos there - the avp one will certainly pull in the crowds I think... Especially if the KickStarter hasn't been delivered by then (although no doubt they will pull the demo game if it's still in the Fox approval hell...)

Next sneak peek of the freebie Agincourt figure...

I think odds-on a Longbowman then. Will be interesting to see what they do to make him individual. Is this year's mini being sculpted by one of the Perry brothers again?

Probably a queue for their blood if things continue as they have been with the KS recently!

Seriously though, definitely looking forward to that. It would have been as depressing as hell seeing the miniatures in exactly the same positions in the miniature cabinet as they had been last year..

Looks like they are trying to tackle the huge queues with this layout. Rather than have hundreds of gamers blocking the main walkway we'll get herded into an adjacent space and queued up from their... Keep the nerds / geeks away from the Marathon runners maybe Oh and the Sherlock fans (who are probably as geeky / nerdy as us...)... Yes - Mr Cumberbatch will be at ExCel that weekend...

This was the queue system last year just after the doors officially opened - it led you back out into the main concourse to get into the 'hangar' next door...
Spoiler:

I will say though the queue (pre-paid tickets) moved really quickly so hopefully will be as good (or better) this year...

The queues were absurd last year. A full hour to get in, whilst a mate just strolled straight in and bypassed it!

South London Warlords and Salute

5 March at 21:44 ·

This year has seen the introduction of a new ticketing system for the South London Warlords show Salute, what follows is a short explanation to try and shed some light on this change.

From my point of view I think probably the main reason this change was implemented was because we needed something that would help get people into the show much quicker and easier than our normal queuing system.
Over the past few years the queues have been getting longer and harder to deal with, once the doors opened at 10am we then had to get the advanced ticket holders in and then we had to start to collect the money for all those paying on the day!
This has been an issue that we have wanted to try and deal with for many years.

It was suggested that I look into E-ticketing as a way forward to help with this issue, and after a few meetings and a lot of scratching of heads we thought it would be good to at least try this and see if it helps with this years show, but for it to work at all we felt we needed a separate hall to do this in.

Well after some negotiating with ExCel we managed to get a separate queuing hall at one end of our normal show hall, and with making an entrance in the temporary wall system we have taken the queues off the boulevard, what this means is that this year visitors will enter the show from this queuing hall.

In this queuing hall we will have people with scanners for the pre-paid advanced tickets and a section to take the cash on the day ( hopefully from just after 7am!! ), this will mean that at 10am, when we normally open the doors, everyone in the queuing hall will have had their tickets checked or paid their money and will be ready to enter the show!!

We hope...

Hope you all have a great show.

Isn't that going to cause a 10am scrum if everyone's paid up and waiting for the doors to open? It'll still be a queue regardless!

It's quicker to check a ticket than deal with payment. That queue will certainly move faster. I'll probably go again this year. I went last year and found it a bit much with the crowds and queuing. I whizzed around the stalls and spent quite a bit on what I wanted, then left fairly early. The demo games were great so I'll do it again despite reservations.

Fenris Games pre-order offer

Afternoon all - I'm still catching up with the backlog of orders caused by last month's compressor failure and other assorted issues but am now rapidly whittling down the outstanding casting & cutting jobs and digging into the pile of overdue Loyalty Card orders, too. Meanwhile Salute 2015 on Saturday April 24th is now fast approaching and while I'm still currently doing everything here solo I need as much heads-up as possible to both a) create stock for the show and b) make sure everyone who wants something specific will be able to pick it up from us there.

With that in mind I'm running the usual show pre-order scheme - get your orders in now for collection on the day and save yourself not just postage costs but also grab a sliding scale of discounts. Pre-order £50 or more and get 10% off with code SALUTE1510; use code SALUTE1515 if spending over £100, and if you're planning a big spend there's 20% off for pre-orders of £200 or more with code SALUTE1520. (NB the webcart will charge you postage but I'll manually refund that for you ASAP).

I'm still hoping to have a limited number of Cthulhu Wars core game box sets at the show, too but will run a separate promo & discount for pre-orders on those as and when the details are finalised.

As always, please note that Loyalty Card balances cannot be used in conjunction with these discounts (though you can, of course, use your LC balance normally if you plan on picking up a bunch of stuff from us at the show!)

Ok official spiel!

THE DICE BAG LADY woah woah will be there with, naturally excellent handmade dice bags for all genres (historical, sci fi, fantasy pop culture etc) as well as the related gubbins such as dice and glass gems and budget little customised pouches.

Also I'll be launching a range of FEMALE VIKINGS, in 28mm scale, perfect for dotting about SAGA warbands and other dark ages (as well as fantasy!)

I'm just about to start casting a SQUID LAUNCHER version of the DBL mascot – Baggy the Bag –

as well as new merch designs including the AGINCOURT Baggy & Squiddo to honour the event, and many more. FREE TEMPORARY TATTOO SHEET with all pre orders.

The start of my excellent collection of cool, badass fighter female models link

A big ol' range of SAGA with myself & my crew to help you with your warband choices (and related buildings)

aaaaand I'll exclusively have as many of the ever popular STUNTY HENCHMEN as I can get hold of in time, that's pack #1, #2, #3, #4 aaaaand previously unseen pack #5, #6 and #7, who knows, maybe #8.

Hasslefree Miniatures Salute update:

Hey guys, right, the code for pre-ordering for Salute 2015 is...

SALUTE2015

I know, I don't know how we come up with them either, we're just that good.

The code is entered on the final page before order confirmation (in a box at the top) and it will zero out your postage and change your order to collection 'and' it will allow you to choose a free gift mini from a list.

Also if your order is over £50 then we wil drop that free gift in a goodie bag, and the goodie bag will get larger as your order does

Should you want to make a second or even a third order for pick up at Salute, as we do have new releases between now and then, simply add a B or a C to the end i.e. SALUTE2015B or SALUTE2015C.

Important note about Resins Masters for Salute

The earlier you order resins the better, we will 'not' be carrying a huge stock of resin masters or anything at the show so we will need some lead time for you.

(Look how incredibly professional that map is! We paid someone a 'lot' of money for that, so you now have no excuses for not being able to find us)

You'll have enough time to do all the stalls unless you want to buy something from FW!
About 5 minutes from the end, go to the Warlord Games stand, pick up the 3 ruin house box, um & arh until a bod comes over & asks if they can help you. Um & arh a bit more then say 'no', go to put the box back & wait for bod to offer you a 4th ruin for free!
Take pain killers, food & drink.
Don't impulse buy things that multiple vendors are selling (like FoW, Vallejo, GW stuff etc). Find the cheapest & don't be afraid to haggle, especially towards the end of the day.

This month's Miniature Wargames & Battlegames magazine has a got a pull out for Salute, and quite a lot of detail on stands and individual details. They also have pics of the mini for this year's event, sculpted by the Perrys.

A couple of things that stand out for me:
- Mantic, "Mars Attacks - Assault on Pennsylvania Avenue". Assault on the White House participation game.
- Society of Ancients, Agincourt. Guess there will be a lot of this battle due to the anniversary, this one is 1:1 representation of the actual soldiers involved!
- South London Warlords are running a 'Stingray' game (based on the '60s TV show), Stingray aquanauts and vessels against the under Aquaphibians and their mechanical fish submarines
- Spartan Games have five games/stands going (you will have already read what one of those is going to be!)
- Wargames Soldiers & Strategy Magazine are previewing a new game due out this year, 'Black Ops', with teams carrying out espionage activities.
- Hawk Wargames - large DZC diorama, if this is anything like last year it will probably be mental.
- Prodos Aliens Vs. Predator, game in a destroyed Weyland-Yutani colony..

Interestingly; couldn't see mention of an official presence for Battlefront (did they go last year?) or Forge World - Possible though that they hadn't yet announced they were going when the magazine went to print?

From the sound of the editorial in the magazine, the people working on the mag had gone through some effort to get all of the info of who was going to be at the show, and what they were putting on display. So, I think it's probably a lack of central source of info, plus the vagaries of these things, plus perhaps a not a very good website, responsible for there not being any firm and fast lists.

That would also explain why the mag article doesn't mention Battlefront or FW perhaps?

Seriously jazzed about going. Wasn't sure, but now it's closer, I'm a very happy bunny.
Looking forward to seeing what Crooked Dice do, especially.

Didn't really take it all in last year, went around in a daze after getting a call early on that we'd had a loss in the family. It isn't an event to wander around half conscious, I'll say that!

    South London Warlords and Salute

    8 April at 19:42 ·

This year the South London Warlords have been working very closely with the guys and gals at Games & Gears to produce a HIGH QUALITY, LIMITED EDITION, THREE BRUSH STARTER SET to go on sale at SALUTE 2015. These sets will be on sale at the Warlords information stand on the day priced at £20.00 per set. We have a very limited number of these available, so be sure to make the information stand your first stop.

We are really pleased with this first ‘starter’ set that Games & Gears have produced for us and hope that we will be able to expand this ‘limited edition’ range every year.

As a wargames club, we hold an internal painting competition every quarter for our members, and this quarter, Games & Gears very kindly donated four sets of their brushes to give away as prizes to the winner of each section.

aaaaand I'll exclusively have as many of the ever popular STUNTY HENCHMEN (http://thedicebaglady.net/miniatures/ ) as I can get hold of in time, that's pack #1, #2, #3, #4 aaaaand previously unseen pack #5, #6 and #7, who knows, maybe #8.

I've already got a few bits and bobs from them but with this order I will complete my Bushido (shogun Japan), Malifaux (Deadmans Hand, going for a wasteland old west theme set just outside Malifaux). Just started also getting a few bits for DZC, I really like there tiles but am trying to come up with an idea on how to securely connect. I seriously think there tge best out there. I just wish they would do some 28mm scifi scenery.

It's that time of year where all wargamers (passes allowing) take that most hallowed journey to London for the mother of all Wargames events! The Wayland Team will be there en-masse as always and we have some eye-wateringly good deals planned for the day. For the last few years we have run an amazing deal on Privateer Press products and we will be continuing the tradition - If you buy three blisters you get the cheapest one for free, you also get a free blister with any Battlebox purchased or two free blisters if you buy a two-player starter set. So whether you are just starting out, looking for a new faction or simply expanding on your current army there is something for you. We will also have demo games running throughout the day. With the release of the rulebook the Batman Miniatures Game is really building up momentum and as well as having a number of the limited edition Joker Rulebooks available to purchase, we are giving away a free Joker Red Hood miniature when you spend £75 on Knight Models products. If you fancy giving the Batman Miniatures Game a try we will also be running demo games on an amazing table. We will have the full Kensei Range and if you buy three blisters you get the cheapest free and you also get a free blister with any Army Box purchase. This is a great excuse to start playing Kensei .

We will also have a show exclusive for Flames of War in the form of the brand new Open Fire! Starter Set which includes the brand-spanking-new plastic miniatures as well as the new plastic box sets. On top of this if you buy three blisters you get the cheapest free. If you missed your chance to get the incredible Angel Giraldez Masterclass book then now is your chance as we will have it at 25% off. The gang from Bandua will be flying over from sunny Spain to join us with a selection of their new terrain, upon which we will be running demo games on and you will get a chance to buy at 20% off their entire range so you can start building up your own tables to look shiny.

If you fancy trying your hand at the Judge Dredd Miniatures Game or Wild West Exodus we will also be running demo games throughout the day and we'll have big discounts off both ranges. We will have a good selection of DUST Tactics items at a whopping 40% discount! Yes you read that right FORTY percent. We will be taking Pre-orders for the new HALO game from Spartan Games with the added bonus that every pre-order will come with a free commander bust plus the chance to win more as part of the commander bust painting competition. We will also be giving away a free commander gift pack (choose from Dystopian Legions, Dystopian Wars, Firestorm Armada or Planetfall) when you spend £50 on Spartan Games products.

We will also be joined by the chaps from Pondfoot Games who will be Demonstrating their brand new WWII card game; Fog & Friction. If you like tactical card games then I would highly recommend you give it a go...

There are so many reasons to come and visit us at stand TE07. We look forward to seeing you there.

A number of our models will be at Salute. To see them go to the Prodos Games stand.

Also keep an eye out for our exclusive Beer Mats, they should be liberally scattered around the venue, or you can try and grab Rich (our man at Salute), and have a chat with him about the project and where we are with it.

    Hi there Jake,

About Salute and Halo, there is a bust of a commander that you guys are offering if I preorder Spartan Games' product? Is it a bust of a Halo character, or a random bust? If it is a Halo character, are they previously named? Is this exclusive to Wayland? What is the price comparison (as a percentile) between Wayland and Spartan Games? Do you guys do a discount? What can you tell me about all this? Is the Halo game you are referring to the Fleet or Ground based game? Or both? Do I have to be at Salute to be able to order? Being in Australia makes it a mighty long Kangaroo trip to Salute.

But great to see so much on offer / on show at Salute this year - I'm really looking forward to it - especially that awesome looking Battle of Hoth set-up. Must remember to charge the camera battery fully on Friday night

I was actually expecting news from Salute this morning and didn't realize it started on Saturday. I guess I've been conditioned by the big US gaming conventions that start on Thursdays.

    That is indeed good news!

The only reason I haven't bought any Dark Age stuff up to now is that I haven't come across any in a store, guess that will resolve it!

KR will be at Salute 2015 on Saturday with some great new products for you and your miniatures. Be sure to come over and see us. We will have a preview of the soon to be launched KR Backpack4 - a backpack to carry 3 or 4 KR standard card cases, or combinations of the 5 card case sizes !

Naturally we will have our incredible show deals on offer, and the regular visitors will know that they are not to be missed!

Buy 3 or more card cases and save £1 per case, and 5 or more and save £2 per case. Or purchase an Aluminium case, or Kaiser transport bag, or Backpack (all full with trays of course) and get an additional card case for £15 – and the additional case can have core, custom or colour trays in there! As ever, the same great show deal to save you £££.

Oh, and don't miss out on the "salute stock special" - any colour trays we have there are the same price as regular KR blue - another great saving for you !

And if you have entered the competitions at Salute then best of luck to you all, and if you win there are some KR prizes up for grabs – a 1200 wheeled aluminium case, an aluminium quad case and a double aluminium case too, see them on the centre podium.

You can find KR in the same regular place on Stand TB09 for a great range of show deals and new products, just look for the “KR” sign! See the Salute website for the full hall layout.

And will we be doing a Golden Ticket again this year? Of course we will, it wouldn’t be the KR at Salute if we didn’t! – keep an eye out in your Salute Goody Bags for a chance to pick up a KR Backpack2 completely free from the KR stand!

Not so much laziness as I don't like flying and if I'm going to a convention I'd love to purchase stuff and bring it back with me, without being stopped at Heathrow by overzealous crotchfondlers who who will no doubt remove all miniature guns and stabby bits from the kits because they are a threat to other passengers. That or squishing it into a briefcase that will no doubt be handled carelessly by handlers.

Strangely, BOW is "hiding" their videos from searches on youtube and from being seen by subscribers. You can still access them if you have the url and they show up in your viewed history but you have to "find" it on their live blog. I understand they want to draw traffic to their site but I've already subscribed to their youtube channel.. wtf is the point if they're going to hide the videos from me? Stupid Warren...

In any case, the "Year of the Space Combat Game!" continues with the news (at least for me) of a Battlestar Galactica space game to join Star Wars Armada, Halo, and Dropzone Commander in the battle for your wallet (or purse).

I think its to get people to post on the site as that is where the prize giveaways are, rather than have people think commenting on Youtube will do the same.

They mentioned giving away first run ships from the dropzone commander fleet game amongst other things.

    Wow, what a show!

I did stay till the end but did manage to catch up with Lego at the Spiral Arm stand and Maelstrom's Edge looks real good, special mention to the Mech/Robot and Building Sprues which really have piqued my interest in that line. Roll on release I say. I missed Yakface, how did I do that?

Speaking of stuff I missed I thought I saw all the stands but the above post showed me that I completely skipped the Hoth battle and AvP. D'oh!

Did manage to meet Alessio Calvatore on the Terminator (river Horse) stand and as ever the champs from Crooked Dice had some cracking demos going on (but strangely no costumes this year, tut tut).

Fat Vader (now slim?) was in good form and I'm glad he got the the Chelmsford Bunker lads who were running a champion XWing trench run participation so popular that a club mate (me!) couldn't get a game.

FW cueing system was ridiculous, I'm big so preferred the old scrum step up. Thanks to the Father and Son from Yorkshire that kept me well entertained for what seemed like a hour. I'm beginning to think 15% p&p is worth it now.

Also well done to the chap dressed up as Judge Dredd, small but perfectly formed I thought.

Definitely a cracking day out. My feet are killing me. Forgeworld was alright, though I did go at 2:45 and was only queuing for 10 minutes. The queue first thing was ridiculous though and stretched across the hall.

Highlights for me were the Hawk Wargames stand, playing Darklands and winning for once and the Troll Trader clearance scrum. Snag a few bargins there...

I swung by the battle of hoth game and that looked pretty dull. Not much was happening from what I could see and a few people just seem to drift away

    Grerat show.

I had to leave early sadly because my ride had brought his daughter and it was a long day for her. But it was good to go. For me Salute is an opportunity to see old friends once a year, the gaming is secondary.

Today however I stopped at the Maelstrom's Edge stall, but some faces to Dakka names, and bought the novels to support the community (having not become a DCM at any time).

One of the overlooked treasures of Salute was the cutaway 28mm Krivak frigate with an 80's cold war boarding party game.

The warship was very nicely done, with removable decks so the action took place throughout the ship (well down to C deck anyway). There was a detailed CIC, bridge, secondary bridge, stores and quarters etc, very nicely done, as well as the more obvious deck furniture and deck stores. Lovely model and very impressive, but the presentation was underdone so it didn't get a lot of camera attention. It didn't help that modern warships look grey and drab, and Soviet ones are very functional inside, so it didn't easily catch the eye first time unlike the space stuff. In fact I am yet to see pictures of it, pity because it was in its own way a far more impressive a job than the flash warship Hawk Wargames use as a showpeice.

Thanks Mannahnin for your kind words.

DrRansom - I'm afraid I'll have to throw those questions open to the public...I didn't find out what the game was, and I've forgotten where I saw the flyer - although it looks familiar, sure I've seen it before. Sorry, I never remember what half the stuff I;ve seen at Salute is.

Orlanth - There should be a couple of shots of the Operation Broadsword game in my gallery, it was very nicely done. There's one in this lot too....

Troll Trader clearance scrum was great, didn't stay for long as it could have got very messy - could have spent many hors sifting through those tubs.....

Pics transferred from my phone this time, some may be very similar to those taken with the camera...

    Great day at salute yesterday. Highlights of the show;

Spartans Halo Fleet Game, models are amazing and the game itself looks good. So glad it's not based on the DW rules. Looked to be about half way between x-wing and battlefleet gothic.

Alien vs Predator by Prodos, again fantastic models, can't wait for it to hit retail.

Demo and gaming boards, nothing looks as good as fully painted armies on a detailed board. Really inspires me to get on and paint more stuff.

Lowlights, Most of the stuff I wanted wasn't for sale yet. The terminator board game looked underwhelming. And I didn't get in as many demo games as I would have liked.

I was demo'ing Batman for simple miniature games so maybe I got to meet some of you guys in person!

Really really busy this year but I did get chance to have a quick look at what I was after.

Luckily I was next to Hawk so picked up the show only models.

I was very happy to make it across to Dakkas table with Maelstroms Edge!

Other than that I only got chance to have a quick run round and see some of the other tables. The BoW Starwars Table was awesome, there were loads of ship battles going on and the Dropzone Resistance Vs Scourge table was amazing too!

All in all best show so far and already looking forward to next year!

I would like to say that the Warlords should be very proud of their show as it's by far the biggest show I go to every year and by far it's the best and extremely well organised!

Firstly, what a day..! Cheers for the guys who have posted pics up already.

Had a bit of a transport cock-up and didn't end up arriving until getting on for 2 in the afternoon, which meant I was trying to cram the entire show into three hours, as well as shepherd some people around that hadn't been to a show before. As the Japanese say, "Impossibru"

This meant (for shame) that I missed the Maelstrom's Edge stand, that Hoth battle, and didn't get a chance to play any games. Also, missed the free goody bag!

    What I did see though
    - the AvP game (all the Predators stood on the temple with the sea of aliens coming out of the jungle was just awesome)
    - that Russian ship with the British marines attacking was great. Actually, just the number of absolutely nuts display set ups, there must have been hundreds if not thousands of man hours for some of them.
    - Stingray and Battlestar Gallactica, those looked very popular.
    - That Hawk Wargames spaceship is just incredible, the Halo game looked very nice too!
    - The amount of just totally random stuff that you only ever see at shows like Salute; the people 'driving' large scale sail ships around (which were at waist height) being one of those!
    - Got my photo taken with the 8ft-tall Space Marine and Imperial Guardsman of course!

All in all really looked like a success. Friend of mine who works for Gripping Beast said they had packed a lot more into the show space this year (after increasing the hall area size the year before), arrived home absolutely exhausted but was totally worth it!

Ok this is my 1 of 6 reports of the event.

I was quite curious about AVP after last year salute so I spent some time at Prodos and tried to cover as much as possible. Warzone stuff is looking great too.
Quite impressed with the quality of the minis a shame that Prodos site seems a bit vague in therms of miniatures pictures, these look so good IRL.

Aliens still looking good crossing fingers that they are for sale soon.

A big thanks from Wayland from those that visited us. A massive day for us and one my feet will take a while to recover from. A big thanks also to all the demo teams that supported us. You were all brilliant.

Was good to meet yakface and Lego to talk about Maelstroms edge.. Helped that they were next to us.

And finally big thanks to my staff who I know spend weeks preparing for Salute. I hope you are sleeping today.

Only managed to look around briefly so didn't get to see all that I wanted but it was definitely busier than last year.

Technically it wasnt a cold war scenario, but a WW3. The krivak was in the Baltic, got disabled and was boarded for intel but RM and SBS.
A nice scenario, a gunfight on a ship with 3d.

I would have preferred a real cold war scenario, something along the lines of Krivak is broken down and drifts within 12 miles of UK coast well outside of an international shipping lane.

UK team has right to board on international law due to its location, because the vessel is visibly stricken and due to navigational safety. Soviet captain and zampolit have other ideas, they need to keep the 'rescue team' and 'safety inspectors' away long enough for a Mil-8 to arrive with replacement parts.

Neither side can afford to shoot, neither side wants to back down. UK forces gain points for every room they get to inspect from the inside, every emissions or weapons platform they get to 'safety assess' with bonus points for CIC and bridge.

After a certain number of turns the helo arrives with the parts to get the engine working, the Soviets then can get away with claiming the vessel is no longer stricken.

No unfortunately, although it did look like they had at least 2-3 quite large display tables with games going on (in addition to the new Halo game).

Think there were a couple of club tables/demo games outside of Spartan also with games being played, which was surprising although perhaps not so if the new ruleset is being as well received as I had heard.

Funnily enough it didn't look like they had any Dystopian Wars tables running though.

Those Lucid Eye figures are pretty nice looking.

Simians are nice and all, but I really like their Cro Magnons. I've been wanting to do some sort of early man campaign, maybe with a dash of fantasy thrown in here and there.

Might have to make an overseas order soon.

I'll vouch for the Afterlife stuff from Anvil as well. My brother got a bunch from the Kickstarter and it's top notch stuff. Made me regret having to save my money at the time.

My favorite thing to look at are those Mierce displays, just seeing how huge some of their figures are. Doesn't matter how many I own either. I never get tired of seeing those massive piles of resin!

All that I know is that this is on a very advanced stage and will be live on Kickstarter very soon. The minis are quite good too and there are lots of monsters. The game is like a modern horror story and survivors.
