The Army of Vior'los Enclave
Primarily hailing from the worlds of Vior'los and T'ruen, the Army of Vior'los serves as the primary defense force of the Farsight Enclaves' capital. The soldiers of the Enclaves are equipped with advanced wargear developed on the world of Lub'grahl and "liberated" from the Tau Empire. Starships and sleek aircraft from the world of Tinek'la, and locally produced craft, provide support and transportation.
Whilst the Battlesuit Corps strike from above, dropping from Manta and Orca transports to strike at the enemy's weak points, Fire Warriors hold the line and cut down the enemy masses with lethally accurate pulse fire. The bonds between warriors, the result of the sacred Ta'lissera bond, allow the armies of Farsight to keep faith and calm, continuing to fire their weapons instead of fleeing. They fight for independence and relief from the repressive rule of the Ethereals, and for the life of the Enclaves as a nation.

Army shot goes here.

The Latest Update:

Close Support Squad finished:

Their loadout is Counterfire Defense System, Flamer, Burstcannon.

Like the paint jobs on those suits, and I'm jealous that you can work that fast I do have one question about the close support suits: Is that weapon combo effective in games? I am thinking of building some suits with the same loadouts, so I am very curious.

I have never tested it, but theoretically it should work well against armies such as Eldar, IG, Nids, and Orks.

I did twinlinked flamers and or burst cannons, multi-tracker so both could be used. It was quite effective

I think I'll TL the burstcannon, but that means losing the CDS, which is a shame.

Yeah but it is brutally effective against hordes that way. shake 'em and bake 'em, then bounce out of range, or behind terrain, it drives the opposing commander nuts when they can't get the crisis team.

I'll have to try that. You make an excellent point with the manuevering, and they should be equally good at Overwatch.

Excellence with Tau units is maneuver and timing. Never forget that jump back move or allow your opponent to badger you into forgetting to get them back that 6inch jump away. Overwatch can also be cool as that seems to have made a comeback since it went away in 3rd edition. I found my best Tau combat was set around tidal water movement, tide comes in to strike then goes out to avoid reprisals. I would also keep devilfish between my firewarriros and such so they shot under the bus, but the enemy could only attack the fish, the firewarriors could clamber into the vehicle if it was not destroyed and flee, or fall back as the enemy had to clamber over the now dangerous terrain of the wrecked fish, and shoot them . Mobility was my key asset fighting in 4th and 5th ed.

Every time I read things like that I feel guilty (for my wallet! ), but honestly I am more familiar with the GW paints, the painting guides in WD use GW paints, and by buying GW paints I support my FLGS.

Oh, and I'm in Colorado right now, so expect absolutely no useful progress for the rest of the week!

It is a tedious process to get that level of "white" fortunately Bandai molds the models in the colors anyway, just need a liner pen for the panels and add decals and you are good to go!

Really? That's interesting. I could covert a Gundam with Heavy Burst Cannon and Shield Generator, but sadly it wouldn't be 75% GW, so I could never use it.
When I get a proper car I'll try to locate a decent independent nearby so I could use it at least once.

Only if you play tournaments that demand such. If it is a "counts as" riptide, then most laid back players will not give a feth about it not being 75% GW silliness and obey the "Rule of Cool"

Because they make jump pack moves and impact the ground hard when they cut their jump packs?

The ghostkeel looks great! I was wondering if you'd do a favor for a fellow tau player. Could you post a pic with all the various suits you have in a line from shortest to tallest? I don't know if you have any newer style broadside but I was curious how the ghostkeel visually stacks up next to the enforcer commander, broadside , and riptide. I know the ghostkeel is between the commander and riptide but I haven't found any pics online showing the frontal and side profile size differences.

Verviedi's Tau Blog - 10/5 - Digital Urban @ 2015/11/08 17:28:30

Post by: warboss

Thanks, much appreciated! That's a nice size progression there in terms of suits. I can't help but think though that the Ghostkeel is $5-10 too expensive compared with the riptide. From the look of the bulk, there should be more than a $10 difference between the two.

Is your iridum suit on a 60mm or 50mm base? The dynamic posing along with the bigger base really do make them look bigger than the old crisis suits even if they're not actually much bigger. Also, out of curiosity, how come you don't have any broadsides? Do you not like the rules or the models? Or do they just not fit in with your playstyle? I'm curious as I'll be adding a broadside soon to my Farsight "ally" subforce (I too have a main tau force and decided to make a small Farsight offshoot).

Deathrain (Iridium) is on a 50mm base. Farsight is on one also.

I don't have Broadsides because they don't fit with Mont'ka. I really, really hate gunlines, which is why generally the only thing I'll have in the table turn one is Fire Warriors in Devilfish and Stealth Suits with Homing Beacons. Everything must move. Everything.

And also, so damn expensive for a 65 point model.

I'm just pissed enough that Farsight can't take a Retaliation Cadre that I'm a bit leery about running it. I want mah dropblob of death!

I'm in the same boat as you (and sorry I meant retailiation... I corrected after you posted). I'll ask opponents if they don't mind the subsitution but otherwise I'll be using my farsight as a vanilla commander with an onager "blade". At least he'll get an upgrade to t5 and 2+ as well.

Psst.

Did you ever think it's because Farsight doesn't have the resources to do an orbital drop, Verv?

Plus we're supposed to see another book so who knows what goodies Farsight might get.

Oh, you were the one who donated it? I was wondering how it just sort of showed up!

Farsight rules an interstellar empire, if a small one. I'm pretty sure he could grab some crappy old cargo ship and jump out of it with his buddies

He also commanded the largest fleet ever assembled at that time made to found new septs. I'm sure they've built new ship construction facilities in the centuries since. Heck, they evacuated a whole planet when the nids attacked. They have the capability to deepstrike whatever they feel like.

Ehhh. It could be any number of things, the older suits that Farsight Enclaves have might not be able to be used for these kinds of drops or something like that.

Plus it could just be that they did not want Farsight to be able to be in a formation that can automatically arrive at the start of your second turn.

How exactly are you envisioning the weathering having happened here?

Verviedi's Tau Blog - 10/5 - Digital Urban @ 2015/11/14 15:14:16

Post by: Verviedi

Landing in mud after jetpacking, hit by mud propelled by artillery shells, splattered by the splashes of mud from other Battlesuits landing. Most of the mud is on the lower half of the body underneath the plates.
On both the Crisis suit I weathered and this one, the weathering is mostly concentrated near the feet/legs and bottom of the jetpack.

So, I played a scenario game on Sunday. Farsight, O'Vesa, Torchstar, Brightsword, and Bravestorm were sent to rescue the President (represented with a Tau tank crewman with blonde hair and a smug expression) from some Ultramarines.

...It played out like a battle scene in a Graham McNeill + Matt Ward collaboration. The only thing our resident Bad Enough Dude did was kill a Rhino with his sword, and then he died to one meltagun shot. Torchstar grabbed the President on turn 4, but got tarpitted and slaughtered, making this game my first ever loss (and first ever game) with the new dex!

I am looking forward to more games, and maybe for my dice not to be so spiteful.

Because the Battlesuit corps took all the red paint, the fire engines in the Enclaves are actually a dull beige.
I plan on dulling it down a bit with the weathering, but I base my weathering on amount of deaths in games. The Y'vahra has only died once so far (on my test run some Fusion piranhas ganked it, I rolled REALLY badly, dealing 3 wounds, and then a random drone took the last wound off)
I absolutely love bright red, as well. Almost as much as I love Farsight!

So I've hit a snag, and I'm a tad overwhelmed. It pertains to the absolutely massive variety of KR Multicase trays.
I'm going to be buying the Kaiser4 transport bag, and 4 standard KR cases to carry my army. My question is, could I please have some help trying to work the system out? I'm not exactly sure what foam tray sets would be best for me.
So far I've worked out needing one of the "Two XV104 Riptides" foam trays, and a few Fire Warrior/Stealth trays.

Only 5 more days left in my vacation. I'm going to talk future.
I'm planning on buying a Barracuda model from Forge World. It'll be interesting to finally have a flyer, and a good exercise in magnetization.
The only issue would be porting the Farsight scheme to it. I'd like to paint it in a distinctive (maybe night-fighter black?) way, but I'm not sure how to do that and also signify that it's a Farsight fighter. If you have any ideas let me know.
Addendum.
I'm still making plans about a "great redo." I'd like to get rid of my old, outdated models (old Crisis Suits, all my Fire Warriors, and my Piranhas) and replace them with new ones. In addition, I want to rebase all of my current models to the standard of my Y'vahra, and even repaint them if I need to.

UPDATE 7/31
A gun so big the tip is out of focus. My first attempt at OSL with a brush. I'd like your thoughts on it.

Nothing much here. I painted the little knobby thing at the back of the Ion gun. You can also see my second Riptide in the background. It's getting a redo after the Stormsurge.

The rear. No idea how that gold splatter got there. This is nowhere near finished, and will be cleaned up later.

And of course a shot of the Stormsurge. I felt the previous paintjob did not do the model justice, and the base was inexcusably bad.

A Lub'grahl produced Ghostkeel, assembled using modified blueprints recovered from Shas'O Mirrorstar's defection during the Damocles Gulf Crusade. This variant differs from Tau Empire produced Ghostkeels due to having a slightly reinforced sensor module and internal structure.

Assembly was surprisingly easy, unlike my other Ghostkeel. Tested my 2-Keel OSC against Eldar. They performed extremely well.

I've stalled as long as I could, but nothing could stave off the horror of painting ~50 drones.

I feel your pain. I've got around 20 to do myself. Drones are really easy to paint, but SO boring...

Urgh 50 drones. Just saying it is hideous.

Looking good so far, but I totally don't envy you!

I basically paint the bottom black, prime/airbrush the top red, enblacken the black lines, paint the grille grey, highlight, and paint colorful stripes.
Marker drones are grey, gun drones are orange, shield drones are blue, missile drones are fabulous purple.

I need opinions. Should I make the blue brighter, and the purple purpler?

And I immediately get distracted by a massively discounted Riptide.

This is my third one. I can finally run Riptide Wing. Thankfully, I'm a believer in "just because you can, doesn't mean you should."

I think the colours need to be a bit brighter, from the photo I am struggling to see the colour difference. I can see the load-out of the drones, but the colours seem to be almost the same.

My two cents,

CB

How bad are the drones If you just airbrush it all just one color and then lay down a second color and wash?

Verviedi's Tau Blog - 10/5 - Digital Urban @ 2016/09/23 01:58:47

Post by: Verviedi

I don't actually own a functioning airbrush. The blacklining is a massive pain, because a wash doesn't give me the effect I want. The second color is basically just thrown on, and then I highlight the red, drone done.

Thank you, Captain Brown. I will pick up some more paint and brighten the stripes when I get the opportunity.

A spray would probably work also. I do like the investment of an airbrush cos it helps to lay down flat colours really fast. But I admit that a big brush does the same job for much cheaper

I agree that black lining is much neater than washing. And that neat look is very impt for tau

Ah the ol' distraction tactic from the riptide. Very cunning.

Looking good!

The spray is actually what I do for priming. I prime the bottom of the drone in black, and the top in red. Sadly I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment, and I'm out of black primer, so progress has slowed.

Oh, Riptides. Mont'ka my heart every time I have one on my desk. Thanks EDC!

A minor devastating catastrophe has occured. My first Riptide broke horribly, and will be out of commission for a while. In addition, I ran out of primer!
So, I began working on my already-primed models.

I also unfortunately royally fethed up the points cost of a squad, so I'll be redoing it.

Maybe add a colour on there antenna tips too?

As a extra signifier.

They actually do have a little colored stripe on the antenna, but it doesn't show up well in the photos.

Played one of the most fun games I've ever played today, against the man and legend, Peregrine.

The tiny Barracuda next to his Marauder Destroyer:

A cinematic shot:

A pic from early in the game:

Mont'ka!

Late game pic. The Imperials had achieved air superiority, and my suits had to charge the tanks to kill them.

Last pic I took:

Not exactly the sort of thing I normally do, and hardly worthy of a title change. I picked up some primer, so painting will continue. First of all, a tank.

You would seriously doubt the guy with the twin-linked chainswords?

On-topic: Hammerhead is looking nice, will have to kill it next time!

Thanks man, looking forward to the next confrontation.
It takes forever to do the camo (it's brushed on, with some masking tape for the corners), but it looks quite striking next to some of my fire-engine red suits.

By the way, Peregrine won, 10 points to 9.

Sorry, somehow I spaced and didn't actually follow-up! I used to live in the Cary area and go to Gamer's Armory. Up further north the last few years but I still keep an eye on the triangle, since I'll most likely make it back that way. Glad to see there's still gaming going on at the Armory.

Great looking camo btw, nice and crisp.
