Having enjoyed Kraut Scientist's excellent 'Khorne's Eternal Hunt' thread, I decided it would be nice to start my own army diary (or journal, for those of you more familiar with US English).
So may I present the early days of the Warband of Krev Grazl, Lord of Chaos. I'll present some fluff for him along the way.
I already have an existing World Eaters army, which you can see here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/652349.page.
I wasn't quite sure whether I should use that army as the basis of a new one, or start a completely new army, but in the end, I thought I'd never be happy with the old models running around in a new army, so I'm starting a new one altogether.
Regardless, the old army still needs a bit of work - I recently made a new champion for the chosen as the old one didn't really fit in, they need some touch ups on the paint, and some of the squads don't really work together visually.
I might show what I've done with the old models as I go along.
But on with the show (and tell):
This is the box of bits I have to work with. Everything in this box has been acquired specifically for this project, including some sprues of Khorne Berzerkers, chaos space marines and the goretide half of the Age of Sigmar box. I also have a varied bitz box that will be raided when the time calls for it!
I have recently got into resin recasting, so I plan to use that to create some links among my models by recasting some of the converted parts. The first thing I decided to make was a khornate backpack, as I don't think one exists in the range. I could then recast it and use it on all my champions or on a squad of chosen etc. So here it is. It uses a backpack from the Dark Vengeance box and the top of a 'trophy rack' from the skullreapers box. I slightly filed them and they glued together nicely.
So that's the start. Sorry I can't show you any red and bronze yet, but that'll come! I plan to create a unit at a time, starting with the troops and ending with Lord Krev Grazl himself, by painting each unit before moving onto build the next one. That way, I'll avoid that horrible feeling of having an entire army to paint, and you'll get to see some finished models as I go along. And hopefully my painting will improve by the time I get to the Lord and he will have the best paintjob in the army!
My painting has been improving over the years since I painted those World Eaters in the other thread, so this new army should be much better looking.

Great looking World Eaters army you have. Lots of old models in there.
I like the look of the backpack. Casting those and using them for champions will make
a cohesive looking force without becoming repetitive.
Thanks,

As the owner of my own band of Khorne Daemonkin, I look forward to seeing yours take shape! I like what you've done with the backpack, especially, makes it look Khorne-y (it's late where I live, so excuse the bad pun ).

Thanks everyone. Hopefully it won't be too long before I have an actual model or two to show you. I'm starting with infantry and ending with the big models (I use them as a treat at the end to motivate me to paint all the infantry!). I need to finish my unidivided army, but once that's done, I'll be cracking on with all the fantastic ideas I have for Krev Grazl and his warband of bloodthirsty marauders.
edit: just spotted this online. It's one of the most ambitious machine conversions I've ever seen. Some sort of Lord of Skulls with wings-sort-of-thing: https://www.frontlinegaming.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/khorne-mower-conversion.jpg.

I've been having some trouble creating the mould for the backpack. These two part moulds are harder than they look! I think the silicone might be too soft though, so I've ordered some silicone that I have used before and is much easier to work with for two-part moulds.
Bases only require a one part mould though, so I decided to skip ahead and start creating the bases. I had a base covered in skulls and thought this would be superb if all the models were mounted on it. So I have made a mould of it, and the first bases are coming off the production line (only about 20 more to go!): Skulls for the Skull Throne!

Post by: corpuschain
Right... while the bases are being made, it's time to start on the first squad. My plan is to build a unit and paint it before moving onto the next one. This way, I don't get that awful feeling of having a whole army to paint at the end.
This will be a squad of berserkers who are naked on the top half, except for the champion - within this warband, champions are assigned to squads from elsewhere rather than rising up from the squad to lead it.
This first picture shows the collection of parts that will be used to make this squad. There are the marauders from the AoS box, one of the fellows in warp-forged armour to be the champion, lots of CSM legs and bolt pistols in holsters (since they won't actually be holding pistols).
Since I want to give these guys power armoured legs, this will involve a bit of sawing with my new jeweller's saw. The cut ended up being really neat; I can't believe I used to cut models in half with cable cutters!
Here's the first built model. The join has some gaps, but his axe is conveniently covering that right now! I'll fill all the gaps with green stuff afterwards. Maybe I'll fashion belts or something.
Onwards and upwards!
Automatically Appended Next Post: That was a busy day! I built the first squad, sawing seven unfortunate marauders in half! I'm quite pleased with the results. I found a random mutant arm in my bitz box (no idea where it's from) and that made a nice addition to one of the models.
They don't have bases yet as I'm still making the bases and I'm going to paint the bases before mounting the models.
Please feel free to comment!
OMG! What's happened to my hand?
There's something I find quite satisfying about hand swaps. I think it's because they rarely don't fit and rarely look bad.

Post by: corpuschain
A bit more casting in progress at the moment. I had real trouble casting the backpack with the type of silicone I was using, so I ordered some harder, 2-part silicone.
I am using this new silicone to have a go at casting something else (I have used it before so am quite confident).
I attached some power armour legs to two of the torsos and heads from the Skullreapers kit to form the basis of my Chosen. The first half of the mould is now done, as you can see below.
The pink stuff is the remainder of the Play-Doh (a kind of modelling dough for kids).
I use WD-40 as a mould release agent, and it usually works fine, but I've realised today that some of the silicone has not fully cured where it appears to have mixed with WD-40. I'm going to leave this for 24 hours to see if exposure to the air will cure it.
Even if it doesn't it should be okay, as it's only a couple of small areas, e.g. in the holes in the 'bunny ears' on the right.
96054
Post by: corpuschain
While the mould is having its 'rest period' before I start using it, I thought I'd take a crack at something I've wanted to do for a while: Berserkers with two-handed chainaxes!
Yes! Feel the wrath of Khorne!
I'm going to make 8 of these fellows, obviously.

Another couple of marines built. I just had a sudden idea - I have some ectoplasma cannons left over from my forge fiend, so I decided to make a Rapier carrier artillery (which will prove useful in an army of mad CC fanatics!).
I won't be making the actual artillery for a while as I'm collecting bits for it, but I decided to make the crew:
"The enemy approaches at speed from the east!"
"Hang on, I'll just check the auspex..."

I'm not totally sure yet, but I have sme plasticard that may form the base or track sides if I don't have anthing else suitable, I have some rhino style tracks from who-knows-where and I also have exhausts from the old rhino kit.
Somehow, I'll combine these to form something that looks suitably warp-forged!

Been busy today! I had a bash at the raper carrier with ectoplasma cannon. It's not quite finished, but it looks pretty cool if you ask me! The engine is from an Ork wartrakk or trukk, the frame is sprue, and the tracks, I believe, are from a Leman Russ kit.
What was quite handy was that the cylinders that stick up from the frame of the sprue lined up perfectly with the two of the holes in the back of the wheels!

After a bit of time off (I was pretty busy at work, and didn't feel like painting), I finally got round to painting the first unit. The rapier carrier and crew are not quite finished yet, but they're looking good enough to give you all an update!
I decided that a bone and red colour scheme with hints of metal and brass would suit the majority of the models. I didn't want too much brass, partly because my World Eaters are blood red and gold, and partly because a lot of the models will be bare chested and I'm not keen on flesh next to brass or gold.
And, yeah, I've changed the chassis of the carrier! I didn't like the look of the squared-off tracks on the original!
Any comments about colour schemes or technique are welcome - If I can get some feedback before doing the next unit, it will be useful.
I'm not sure about the edges of the bases - the brown seems okay, but I wonder if there's a better option, so ideas are definitely welcome there!

Looking good ! These two handed axes will sure coming handy when slicing loyalists in two.
Regarding the Rhino, while neither am I an expert on vehicles, you could go a medieval way from what you already assembled. As you already integrated nicely lots of AOS elements to you infantry, you could integrate more middle ages elements to the tank too. I am thinking chains, blades, trophy racks, ancient shields. If you are willing to sacrifice some cool AOS Khorne fist weapons, they might make nice icons, or headlights toppers ?
And since this is Khorne you could add some baskets on the side and start filling them with skulls, so that your berserks have some place to conveniently store the heads they took during the battle.
But I am just brainstorming here, I do not see anything wrong with your rhino, I could very well bring your squad into battle as is.
Keep it up !

I had a little conundrum to solve. I like to paint my power weapons with a blue glow to make them stand out from normal CCWs. I then, without thinking, painted Aspiring Champion Slava with a blue axe, but it's supposed to be an Axe of Khorne. I didn't really think about making the AoK different to a power weapon. I didn't want to repaint it, because I did a great job, so what to do! The answer was obvious. Slava would be moved up to the Chosen squad, where he can be equipped with a power weapon, and I could make a new asp champ and come up with a colour scheme for the AoK. I came across a tutorial on another website that made the sword look like lava, and decided that was the way to go. So here it is! The AoK is the first picture and the power weapon is the second one.

Very nice looking axes, both of them I really need to paint that DV aspiring champ. My only nitpick would be with the lava axe's handle, would it not make more sense if both it was the same color on both sides of the hand holding it ? Some of the earliest recruits to The Bloodstorm have had a run out against an warband of unidvided chaos space marines of unknown origin.
The rapier carrier crew prepare to unleash hell on the enemy.
A squad of Berzerkers, accompanied by a Helbrute, emerge from the hills.
The enemy watch as roaring Berzerkers enter the city.
A lascannon shot manages to immoblise the Rhino before it makes to the city, so the Berzerkers, armed with two-handed chainaxes, get out and walk... I mean run...
A Tzeentchian Sorceror takes out a squad of Berzerkers, but ultimately is slain by an unpainted Kharn the Betrayer. Khorne emerges victorious.

I'm using him a generic CSM list. I bought the daemonkin codex, but with the rapier carrier and possibly a vindicator being included, I can't really just use that codex. He'll definitely be used as a Warpsmith!

Thanks, it was jolly good fun. I didn't even think of including a warpsmith, but when I had those maulerfiend tentacles left over, and then read the warpsmith entry, I knew I had to create one! It came out pretty unique, and that's what I usually aim for. Glad you like him.

Ah, well... they are all from the World Eaters of Frenesia army (see link below), so not necessarily, although I am keen to touch some of them up because they are a bit scruffy. I don't think I'll strip them completely.
I tend to leave old models alone for the most part, but Kharn has been moved from Frenesia's army to Krev Grazl's army, so he needed a suitable paintjob (and I was never happy with him in the first place).

A smaller update. I'm trying to polish off some models before a battle in a couple of weeks. Plus, here's a chance to show off my models with a nicer background - two sample floor tiles from B&Q!
First up is the second rapier carrier crew, now painted.
Then there is Squad Rozbořit, who are almost finished. They need some touching up and then a coat of varnish.
Finally, there are two cultist prototypes. I'm planning to make a couple of squads of cultists with a Dark Mechanicus vibe. I made these first, but now I have a box of Skitarii parts that I can add to them to make them extra mechanical.
Any thoughts on the colour scheme for these? I'm using blue as a spot colour across the army, but I think there might be too much blue on at least one of these cultists.

Post by: WarbossDakka
I see what you mean with the blue situation. I would say the amount of blue is fine, but it's the tone that's the problem. It feels too bright, like on the sword and the bottom cultist's loin cloth. Maybe use darker blues like Kantor Blue or navy blue. Apart from that the reds look great as do the grittier tones of the skin and clothes.
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Very cool update !
But I agree with WarbossDakka, darker or dirtier blue would be more fitting for cultists whereas you can keep this brighter tone for smaller details such as leds on weapons.
A dark wash over the blue parts should do the trick.
Anyway, Khorne darkmechanicus cultist should make for a killer combination, I am very interested in seeing the next members of the squad.

Haha, I think I thought that once. It's a fair bit taller than a dreadnought, but nowhere near a Knight. Probably as high as a Forgefiend.

Here you go! I just knocked these up. An icon of Khorne will go on the banner pole, but I haven't decided what actual icon it will be yet.
The flamer guy should be more upright, but I didn't glue him to the base properly, and I swapped the head on the chainsword-wielder as he lacked that mechanicus vibe.

Time for some chosen!
I had to make use of these AoS models, and they give some interesting options for weapons. The hand swaps were good fun, and the backpacks were fairly easy to fit.
I was worried that the 40k models would look too small, but they seem to be fine, though that is probably due in no small part to the Khorne helms that I have added / converted.
The model with the massive sword is the champion.

So my havocs are looking pretty nifty, being led by Aspiring Champion Zanik. 2 plasmas and a flamer, which is strapped to the marine's body using gold chains, as suggested by KernelTerror.

It does, doesn't it? I would definitely get out the way. It's the pose that does that, I think. Yes, the face is aggressive, but it's the stooping pose of the Balrog that does it, I think.

A Vindicator!
I bought a box of 2nd hand miniatures on ebay, and one of the models was this badly put-together and thickly painted Vindicator. I couldn't do anything about the modelling (the side panels were put on really strangely and there is a gap at the rear), but I stripped the paint as best I can. I didn't strip it all, and there was some lumpy paint left on, but I thought I would use that to give the tank a warped and ancient look. After converting it up with spikes and a Khorne Berzerker, I added as much grime as I could - chips, scratches, corrosion, rust and washes. I hope you think it looks archaic and chaotic!

So, what have I been up to in the three weeks? Aside from going to Warhammer Fest and hosting a home tournament, I've actually done a fair bit of model work.
However, there isn't a lot I'm happy to post yet, as I've been flitting between various different models in terms of painting and modelling.
I was quite focused and finishing a squad before moving onto the next one, but since my army is looking well stocked now, I thought I'd relax a bit and let myself do whatever takes my fancy.
Hence I've built a couple of models for a squad, then built a monster, and then spent hours online looking at other models to buy! I'm going to be building a renegade guard detachment to accompany the daemonkin, so have been mostly working out lists and checking out lots of models to decide what I want to do. I now have some models on their way and will start work on this detachment once I've painted up a few of the models on my shelf.
However, some models will be finished soon and I will start posting them. I'm building three centre-piece models atm, so I'd rather not post them until they're done (for maximum gravitas). You'll just have to wait and see what they are!
To whet your appetite for units to come, here are two models I recently knocked up. A possessed berzerker and a flesh hound.
Watch this space!

These fellas will form a retinue (meat shield!) for Warpmsith Prostřednik as he patrols the battlefield, repairing his mighty daemon engines. Perhaps they can help repair or suggest improvements to these infernal machines.
In the final picture, you can see Prostřednik with his retinue and two of his mighty creations: the Decimator siege engine, Katastrofa, and the insane Helbrute, Mrtvych Lebky.

Post by: corpuschain
I found a base image from the web (I think it's from a video game) and then used photoshop to blank out what was in the boxes.
The background is an icon of khorne that is behind some parchment, and the parchment is slightly transparent.
I then added the Bloodstorm icons on top (which I also made in photoshop).
You can make one yourself if you just find an image of a blank scroll or parchment, then use MS paint to type over it. You can also import the image into powerpoint and do some fancy stuff in there.

I have painted one of the Chosen marines, and I am looking for feedback on this colour scheme. I am thinking of painting the CSM detachment with slightly more steel than bone to represent the machine cult element, and as a way of distinguishing them from the KDK detachment. They are also going to have red base rims.
How does this look?

Looks pretty cool, I like it, but as for red base rims, maybe not. Unless they were a dark red as the red bases would draw attention away from the awesome mini and toward the base rim. Just my opinion though, keep it up

Really cool model CorpusChain, as usual you reds and bone white works really well. It would be clearer with your regular paintscheme on his side, but there is indeed a more metallic vibe about him that will separate him nicely from the ground troop. However, this model does not scream mechanicus to me, as the metal also emphasize the medieval aspect of his armor. On a model with more flat spaces I would have suggested freehanding some gear patterns, but for that one I am afraid that would take some converting. And that is kind of a heartbreaker, because this is a cool sculpt, and he works nicely as it is, especially with the bolter held in one hand that underlines the size of the mini. If you are settled on going more mechanicus though, there are probably some things to do, discreet wirings, maybe a cybernetic eyepiece. A techmarine backpack might be too much, but if you can get your hands on an old one with a single servo-arm would, I would be curious to see how it works. At some point I also converted two of these AoS guys to dark mechanicus, you can see them here. They might give you ideas, but in a way I feel that they have lost some of the original model's rage and dynamism. Well that was my two cents, I think the model is really cool as is, but might need more modification in order for it to undeniably look mechanicus. Keep it up, praised be Khorne !

Post by: corpuschain
Hi KT, thanks for your detailed input. However, I don't think I explained what I was trying to do all that well. I wasn't trying to make these models look like part of the dark mechanicus; rather I was trying ti give them a more metallic look so they fit in with my dark mechanicus models that will have lots of metal on them. I get what you mean about him looking medieval, though.
As long as you approve of the colour scheme, I'll stick with it. I'll hope to finish the squad by the end of the week, so watch this space!

The Chosen of the Bloodstorm have arrived!
Led by Aspiring Champion Zvolený, the squad is formed from the mightiest champions of the Bloodstorm and is armed with 4 power weapons, a pair of lightning claws and a flamer.
The squad have received many gifts of Khorne, mutating their armour and bodies into baroque shapes. The squad hit hard and fast, dropping into battle in a Dreadclaw drop pod and charging into elite enemy units.
One of them carries an icon of Khorne that most would struggle to lift, and this serves as a summoning point for daemons of the Blood God.
Forever have they shed blood in the name of Khorne, and long may they continue to do so...

So... I met up with taemu_touhi at Warhammer World to see how the Bloodstorm would fare against the imperial scum known as the Adeptus Mechanicus.
Much blood was spilled in the name of Khorne, but in the end, the planet and its precious deposits of adamantium were claimed by the Adeptus Mechanicus. The Bloodstorm will be back to have their revenge...
Some of the highlights:
1. Warpsmith Prostrednik leads his daemon engines to war.
2. Skitaari rangers set up in a position to get a commanding view of the battlefield.
3. A mighty Imperial Knight of the strides at the head of the Adeptus Mechanicus force.
4. An ectoplasma cannon deals death from a distance.
5. The decimator Katastrofa is no match for a Knight.
6. But a Bloodthirster drops out of the sky and slices the Knight in half with its Great Axe of Khorne.
7. And goes on to wreak havoc in the imperial lines.
8. At the end of the battle, nought but a vindicator and this blessed rapier would be left of the Bloodstorm.
9. A last ditch attempt by the Bloodstorm to capture a chaos shrine would end in failure.
10. The Skitarii will not allow this treachery to come to pass.
11. One lone, mad berzerker attempts to cut his way through the mechanicus ranks, but ultimately falls to the superior weaponry of the techpriest.

Some fluff to get your teeth into:
The Bloodstorm’s homeworld of Bohemus was once a peaceful industrial world, but the arrival of an unnamed group of cultists marked the start of the sewing of discord. Whispers of the falsehood of the God-Emperor’s claim to be ruler of mankind were the first notions of the most insidious and treacherous of infestations – the worship of Khorne. Soon , whole swathes of the population were conducting rituals to channel the power of the Blood God. Buildings, once mighty, gleaming spires of Imperial might, were now beginning to deform and twist into mutated horror-houses of the warp.
Barely a hundred years after the first mentions of the Blood God had started to befoul the minds of the inhabitants of Bohemus, a warband of chaos space marines, led by infamous warlord Krev Grazl arrived on the world. The inhabitants welcomed the marines at first, but soon grew distrustful of these newcomers, deserters from the Black Legion, who claimed to worship no particular God of the Warp. Spying an opportunity, the self-appointed leader of the Khorne cults on Bohemus, Zorka Nykl, attempted to build a bridge with the chaos space marines as they attempted to build a fortress on the world in the face of growing animosity. Nykl’s tales of fearsome warriors fuelled by the rage of the Blood God, tearing enemies apart with the minimal of weaponry, began to turn the heads of the marines.
Eventually, Nykl sensed that the marines had been sufficiently convinced of the allure of Khorne that he thought he should unveil his final convincer. He brought Krev Grazl and a group of his trusted veterans to The Great Shrine: a massive throne, built of the skulls of those who had refused to submit to Khorne in battles that ravaged Bohemus as the cult swept the world. Upon the seat of the throne lay the most magnificent weapon ever seen by the centuries-old eyes of Krev Grazl: an axe as long a human was tall, with a head of bone that seemed to writhe with some bound power. Nykl explained that a small meteorite had landed outside the capital city. The meteorite, red as blood and covered in the stony faces of denizens of the warp, split open upon impact to reveal the axe. The axe was much heavier than it should have been for its size and it took several men with servo-harnesses to lift it and bring it to the temple. Seeing the axe as a gift from Khorne, the devotees in the temple had mused and whispered about why Khorne would gift them such an unfeasibly heavy and large weapon. When Krev Grazl had arrived, the plans of Khorne became clear. Khorne had forseen that Krev Grazl would arrive and be able to wield the axe. And wield it he did. Nykl gestured for Grazl to approach the axe. As he drew near, the axe writhed, the surface shimmering with power. He held the axe aloft and swung it in a great arc. A distorted and high-pitched roar erupted from the weapon, causing human onlookers to cower in fear. Grazl recognised that this, like Abaddon’s Sword, Drach‘nyen, was a daemon weapon, and lifting it was not a matter of strength but of being a kindred spirit with the daemon. Krev Grazl, rewarded by Khorne for many victories over the centuries, has daemonic gifts and mutations that allow him to control the power of a daemon weapon. Few people could even touch a daemon weapon, let alone wield it in battle, and Grazl knew from that moment that he had been truly rewarded by the Blood God.
The warband swore their allegiance to Khorne, repainting their armour and war machines in colours to honour Him. The inhabitants of Bohemus swore allegiance to Krev Grazl, and the tales of his might began to outpace his actual deeds. Many viewed him as a descendant of Khorne, born in the warp and sent to realspace to claim the skulls of the mightiest of Khorne’s enemies.

The human inhabitants of Bohemus form two distinct races: the giant, ferocious Mamuti and the more typically-sized Číslo. The Mamuti make excellent space marines due to their size and hardy nature. The Mamuti have long been ruled by the strongest and fiercest warriors of their race, and in more recent industrial times, the Číslo used to their technology to subjugate them and put them to work in the factories. Since the Bloodstorm arrived, they started to train Mamuti factory workers in the martial skills of Khorne, and were soon impressed with the results on the battlefield. Some of the Mamuti choose to fight many battles in traditional dress rather than power armour, fighting up close with mighty axes or swords.Only when fighting in extreme conditions or against heavily armoured foes will they then choose to don suits of power armour.
Here is one of the Mamuti, Bojovnik, tattooed with emblems of Khorne, but retaining the traditional look of the Mamuti people.
(I think the model is from the Black Sun range)

This kind of model is perfect to show that Khorne followers are not all blood crazed maniacs, but also have some sort of warrior tradition. The nobleness about it is excellent and the paintjob does it justice.
Will you be making more ?
96054
Post by: corpuschain
Why thank you, KT! I do like the nobility of it, and I'm quite pleased with my paintjob (for once!). I think it is good to show that some followers of Khorne have a more restrained sense of slaughter. I sometimes think of the TV character Dexter and think of soldiers who are emotionless and calculating, but when they see blood they are overcome with rage. Obviously Khorne Berzerkers have been lobotomized and that's why they are absolutely crazy with rage, but that is just the berzerkers.
Yes, I will make more when the right models or conversions come about. If anyone comes across a model and thinks it may work, please let me know!

Updated pictures of Xanakionahr. The daemon has been given a proper base and had a few highlights added. It blends in better with the other Bloodthirsters now!
So that's four of the ranks of Bloodthirster (taking some creative licence):
Xanrezhal, The Drinker of Blood. Bloodthirster of the Second Host
WEAPONS: Dagger of the lost Skull
Xanakionahr, Bloodthirster of the Fourth Host.
WEAPONS: Axe of Wrath
Baltanath, Bloodthirster of the Sixth Host.
WEAPONS: Great Axe of Khorne
Kraadax, Bloodthirster of the Eighth Host
WEAPONS: Axe of Khorne and whip

I started a game of Execution Force tonight, with members of the Bloodstorm in place of the box cultists.
Warpsmith Prostrednik, with the help of its acolyte, Opravář, is planning to bind a daemon to a machine and create a new daemon engine. A team of assassins plan to stop the ritual, but they must fight their way past a horde of blood-crazed soldiers of Khorne. Who will succeed? To be continued...

The battle was a tense one, with the assassins meeting fierce resistance in the dark halls of the sanctum. Cultists and chaos space marines emerged from every direction, relentless and bloodthirsty. Soon, The fury of their rage was evident as they set up on the assassins. The Calldius assassin pirouetted, flipped and sliced her way through cultist after cultist, but her agility was no much for the brutality of the cultists as one shot her arm with an autopistol, causing her to fall. Another launched a wall of flame that incinerated her alive. The Vindicare assassin, too far away to help, heard her screams and pushed forward, dropping cultists with precise shots from his Exitus pistol. He advanced steadily, searching for the transporter to the inner sanctum. Eventually, climbing over the bodies of the fallen, he found it. In triumph, he radioed the Culexus assassin the location. As he did so, he felt a heated pain through his torso. Blood poured out from his chest as the point of a jagged axe split his ribs. He fell to the ground, praying to the emperor that his colleagues could finish the task of locating the warpsmith.
The Culexus assassin, knowing the radio silence meant the death of his colleague, pushed on, sprinting through the halls, broadcasting the location of the transporter to the Eversor assassin. They reached the transporter at the same time, and were transferred in a burst of light to the inner sanctum. As their eyes adjusted, they saw that blood ran down the walls and across the bone floor. The twisted faces of daemons seemed to coalesce across the red gore that infested every surface. They cursed the daemons that would create such filth and made their way down the corridors. Eventually they reached a temple that defied description. Shifting facades of blood and glittering warp energy confused and disoriented them. They held onto their faith in the imperium. They would prevail.
A huge axe raked in front of the Culexus's face. he reacted, swatting it away and thrusting towards the assailant. A twisted looking space marine helmet, with horns sprouting where it's audio sensors should be, stared back into his eyes, He saw a flash of green light in those eyes, and noted the baroque red armour. A berzerker of Khorne. It was a twisted, ancient space marine, part daemon, part machine, with a huge bionic arm that held a bolt pistol. The two of them fought, assassin against marine. The assassin blasted bolts of psychic energy, but the runes of Khorne on the marines armour simply glowed and absorbed the blasts.
Meanwhile, the Eversor confronted the Warpsmith and a team of cultists. He fought with cultists, slicing their limbs off and adding to the blood. A voice boomed out.
"Their blood will only add to the power of this ritual, as will yours!"
The Eversor carried on, trying to ignore the voice as it clawed at his ears.
"You will never succeed! Your false emperor protects you not!"
The cultists kept coming. They swung at him with axes, blades and clubs. One shot his foot. It bled. As he looked at it, a blast of melta energy shot towards him. The warpsmith had fired from one his mechatendrils. The shot took off the Eversor's right hand. He leapt at the warpmsith, aiming for the head. A giant, daemonic hand clasped at his arm and stopped his attack. Another grabbed his right leg. He struggled. Prostrednik laughed.
"Blood! Blood for the Blood God!"
The mechanical arms pulsed and wrenched, and the assassin was torn in half. The warpsmith tossed the pieces of the dead assassin into the blood at his feet, and turned to finish the last assassin. He saw it was a good fighter. His more combat-fond brothers would surely appreciate the martial skill of this soldier. The warpsmith preferred the elegance of daemonic machinery. The ritual was far from complete, and he could not let this interloper stop him now. He fired with the meltagun and his bolt pistol, aiming for the hideous mask of the assassin. He missed, again and again. He roared in anger. The assassin danced and twisted, parrying the blows of the berzerker and avoiding the shots of the warpsmith. He jumped over the berzerker and stuck a knife in its neck. The berzerker roared and flung the assassin across the room with its bionic arm. It crouched to the floor, clutching at its neck. The warpsmith shot the berzerker in the head, killing it.
The warpsmith turned once more, to see the assassin climbing to his feet, drenched in blood. The assassin advanced. Mechatendrils erupted from the walls, clawing at the assassin. He was halted, mere feet from the warpsmith. He fired blasts of psychic energy, but they caused no harm to the warpsmith. Prostrednik aimed its bolt pistol at the assassin's head as the assassin strained against the mechatendrils.
"Khorne will not be sated with this offering, but I will enjoy it. Die, assassin."
The bolt pistol fired, tearing a hole through the mask and exploding the brain of the assassin. Blood erupted from the back of his head and sprayed across the room.
The last thing he saw as the light faded was a jet black void opening in the centre of the room, forcing blood to traverse the floor in waves...

Part 2 (part 1 can be found here: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/150/659202.page#9150523)
The void expanded to the height of the room, which was easily 30 metres. It was roughly circular, but the shape changed with every passing second. The void was jet black, save for swirls of blue light that twisted and turned across the surface.
“Bring the machine!” bellowed the Warpsmith. Attendant cultists scurried into a side room and re-merged pushing a giant set of legs, as tall as a tank. The legs looked similar to a design used by the techpriests of Mars to create dunewalking machines of war. They were baroque and ancient, the armour painted in red, with exposed pistons and wiring underneath. The cultists manoeuvred it into position in front of the void.
Prostrednik began a to recite a prayer to Khorne – a guttural incantation to the God of blood and warfare. The cultists joined in, their varied voices creating an unearthly cadence to this hymn to endless bloodshed. Prostrednik began to carve the icon of Khorne into the machinery, and motioned to some of the cultists. They began gathering buckets of blood and started to pour them over the legs and pistons of the legs.
The void crackled. Fire spat out through its centre - a gush of purple-red flame that met a group of cultists head on and immolated them where they stood. Prostrednik cackled.
“So it begins!” Flames licked out around the machine. Blood swirled from the void and created a vortex around it. Cultists screamed and were sucked into the Warp. Prostrednik stood back and watched as his ritual came to fruition. A magnificent swirl of colour enveloped the room, at once red, black and purple. An angry roar erupted from the madness, tearing through the chants of the cultists, causing them to fall silent. The vortex swirled faster, burning the walls and causing blood to boil off them until the air was filled with a hot, red, choking mist. As the vortex slowed, another roar burst forth from within, and this time the roar had a face. A metal face with giant teeth of bone. Its eyes glowed red and a metal tongue flicked out from behind those teeth. As Prostrednik’s eyes adjusted to the mist, he gazed upon the form of the daemon, entombed within the walking prison of the arcane machinery he had created. It had a monstrous, muscled body of purple-grey flesh and arms that ended in writhing mouths of bone and scale. It’s arms were covered in red and steel armour and bony tentacles erupted from bloody rents in its shoulders. Skulls poked through the flesh like faces in a sea. Prostrednik thought he recognised one of the faces.
The machine lurched into life and the daemon roared. Black smoke belched from an exhaust on the daemon’s back. The daemon took several steps with its arachnoid legs, impaling a cultist under one foot. It looked down at Prostrednik with its unnatural green eyes.
“I name you Kov Šelma. We require your help, in the name of the Blood God. Will you fight alongside these mortals?”
The daemon roared in approval.

Behold! Varrolath, Bloodthirster of the Eighth Host, carrying a mighty Axe of Khorne and a Lash of Khorne.
I have had this model for about eighteen years, and it was originally painted, not too badly, in a black and white scheme. I have updated the colour scheme and added a new lash to fit in with my modern bloodthirsters and it now stands proudly alongside them as part of the daemonic legions of Khorne.
Also shown are my Chosen, who have been rebased onto 32mm bases. They were just a bit too big for 25mm, and the icon bearer kept falling over! They do look at home on the larger bases, I think.
Next, I am painting a Dreadclaw for this squad.

In the middle of painting up my dreadclaw, I decided I wanted to do some more building and converting, and while making some cultists, I decided to resurrect a long-held ambition, which is to build a renegades and heretics army.
I've been starting to feel that The Bloodstorm is going in too many directions at once, and so removing some models and putting them in a renegades and heretics detachment makes sense.
This will leave the actual Bloodstorm force, led by Krev Grazl, with a reliance on brute strength, daemons and beasts. Then there is Warpsmith Prostřednik's detachment, with its reliance on machinery. Finally, the renegades detachment is a group of Imperial Guard and other humans who have see Khorne as the God of Strength and, seeing the flesh as weak, convert their bodies to machinery in order to be stronger to carry out the Blood God's endless slaughter.
Here's a provisional army list based on the models I have available:
The infantry squads are 10 models minimum, but I don't my opponents will mind if I field 8 instead but pay for the cost of 10. We must appease the Blood God!
--HQ--
Command Squad - TOTAL: 202 pts = 45 + power weapon (10) + bolt pistol (2), covenant of Khorne (10) + Heretek Magus (30) + banner of hate (10) + 3 extra disciples (30) + command net vox (5) + chimera w/dozer blade (60)
--Troops--
Infantry Platoon
Infantry squad - TOTAL: 50 pts = 30 + champion (5), sub-flak armour (5), melta bombs (5) + flamer (5)
Infantry squad - TOTAL: 45 pts = 30 + champion (5), sub-flak armour (5), melta bombs (5)
Infantry squad - TOTAL: 45 pts = 30 + champion (5), sub-flak armour (5), melta bombs (5)
--Heavy Support--
Hydra - TOTAL: 75pts = 60 + dozer blade (5), militia training (10)
Leman Russ Squadron
1X PUNISHER (130 + heavy bolters 20) = 150
1X BATTLE TANK (140) = 140
1X DEMOLISHER (160 + plasma cannons 30 + lascannon 10) = 200
Grand Total: 897 pts

Sparks crackle through the hull of the outer corridor of the cruiser. Space marines crouch in readiness, bolters aimed. A rectangle cut appears as a chainblade bursts through the plasteel. The material buckles and bends, and with a roar, a red-armoured figure thrusts its massive bulk through the gap. Aspiring champion Válečný deflects bolter fire with his shield-cum bolt pistol, the bolts embedding themselves in a gold icon of Khorne embossed on his shield. He is followed by seven berzerkers, each wielding chain-halberds that hum with anticipation. They spill into the corridor with the aim of sowing death among the adeptus astartes...

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. I have used a burning lava style to represent Axes of Khorne - you can see this on one of the champions and three Bloodthirsters. I tend to do power swords as glowing blue no matter what faction they are from (see my space marines for more examples).

---The Revenant Leader---
A scout stood on a watchtower on the edge of the fortress, holding his overcoat close around himself as protection against the cold air of Bohemus. He looked down at the datascreen, and brushed the dust off. The radar had picked up some motion. Twenty-eight, no, twenty-nine blips were slowly winding their way down the valley. He gazed out across the valley, but could see nothing through the swirling dust.
“Damn this planet,” he muttered to himself. He listened. A slow beat was increasing in volume as the blips got closer. As they drew near, the beat turned to a thud, like leaden footsteps. The scout’s heart started to beat faster. He saw shapes emerging from the storm… a huge mammork was striding towards the fortress, its feet pounding the earth like a battle drum. Mammorks never came this close to civilisation of their volition. They kept to the great plains. What’s more, this mammork was accompanied by a small herd of lesser mammorks and.. what looked like… flesh hounds of Khorne… The scout froze for a moment. A gift from Khorne? An illusion? He checked the radar. No illusion – the radar was still registering their movement. He paused, then did what he hadn’t done in months, and sounded the alarm. A great horn pealed, piercing the air with a note that would awaken all in the fortress. ‘All’ was not many. Prostrednik had taken half the Bloodstorm and left the fortress in the hands of Nykl, who had a platoon of cultists, three squads of berzerkers and various daemon engines to protect the base. Gun emplacements would fire upon intruders should they be needed. The scout was still not sure who was approaching the gates or why, but he could take no chances. As the horn blared, troops emerged from towers and hangars, checking their ammo, readying their axes and forming into squads. The scout flinched as a sound indicated Demagogue Nykl hauling himself onto the watchtower.
“What have you seen?” Nykl spoke with the low, cracked voice of a hardened warlord.
“Look, my lord. I don’t get it. Mammorks with flesh hounds?” Nykl looked, one bionic eye whirring as it focused on the intruders.
“It’s a gift from the Blood God. Recruits for the Bloodstorm. Flesh hounds will appear when needed. Perhaps an enemy approaches. Open the gates.”
“Are you sure, my lord?”
“Do you doubt the will of Khorne?”
“No, my lord.” The scout pressed a button, and the great brass gates creaked as huge motors hummed and began to swing them open. As Nykl watched, he noticed a shape atop the great mammork. His confidence in his decision began to fade. His arms drooped to his side. No one could ride a mammork, much less command it to approach a fortress… and the flesh hounds… who could be riding this beast, but… a champion of Khorne? As the pack emerged from the dust, the champion began to look familiar, and began to stir in Nykl a sense of panic. It was Krev Grazl…
Krev Grazl let out a bellow, seemingly challenging the fortress. The mammork matched him and roared. The three smaller mammorks joined in. The entire cohort broke into a run, charging headlong at the gates. Nykl barked in panic,
“Close the gates! Close them now! It’s Krev Grazl!”
“My lord, they cannot close during an opening command! I can’t close them!”
“By the machines of the Bloodstorm, what have you done? He… he will kill us all!”
Krev Grazl ducked his head as the great beast hurtled through the gates. The assembled troops, blissfully unaware of who had stormed the fortress, fired their weapons. Bolt pistol shots tore through the air, but the beasts moved too fast. Flesh hounds leaped and pounced on cultists, tearing heads from bodies with their razor-sharp teeth. Cultists retaliated with auto pistols, swords, axes and various stabbing implements. The claws of flesh hounds raked at metal body parts as the cultists struggled to fight against the very daemons whom they had long fought beside. Meanwhile, mammorks smashed aside berzerkers with their tusks, goring ancient warriors with ease. The Berzerkers put up more of a fight than the cultists, goring the limbs of mammorks with the chainaxes as their squads were trampled underfoot. Krev Grazl, atop the mightiest mammork any boheman had ever seen, was dealing death like never before. All here, save the newest recruits, had seen him in battle, and seen how he could cut armies to shreds in minutes with his powerful daemon weapon and lightning claw. Now, riding this huge beast, a beast equipped with brutish tusks and a great bone-tipped tail, he was unstoppable. The beast rampaged across the fortress and crashed into a helbrute. The helbrute, unaccustomed to fighting such a beast, was taken by surprise, and lifted clean off its feet by the tusks of the mammork. The mammork slammed it into a wall. The helbrute roared in agony and warp energy crackled along its armour. The daemon inside would return to the Warp if Krev Grazl defeated it. The mammork pulled back, before slamming into the helbrute once more. The helbrute clawed at the mammork with its power fists, but Krev Grazl blocked the blows with swings of his terrifying daemon weapon. The axe roared as it cleaved the claws off one of the power fists. The helbrute roared again and shuddered with fierce energy. As the mammork slammed it into the wall again and again, the daemon within began to lose its grip on reality. A tremendous blast of red and blue flames erupted from the armour as the daemon was sucked back into the warp. As the empty armour sunk to the floor, Krev Grazl turned the mammork around and gazed as he saw his herd of beasts tearing the Bloodstorm asunder. Many lay dead on either side, but the shock of facing the daemons they had thought of as allies had shocked the Bloodstorm. Krev Grazl commanded the mammork to advance, bringing it round in an arc to meet the watchtower atop which Nykl stood. Krev Grazl leaped from the back of the beast and onto the wall. His superhuman speed and strength quickly took him along the battlements and up the ladder to the top of the watchtower. He sprung from the ladder. The scout fired his autopistol. It did nothing to Krev Grazl’s power armour as he span. He swung his axe as he rotated, and sliced the scout’s head clean off. It tumbled over the wall and into the melee below. Krev Grazl completed his spin with his axe aimed squarely at the face of the Demagogue, who stared at him in horror. He had no weapons, and even if he had, no amount of Khornate fury would help him overcome a champion of Khorne and former Lord of the Bloodstorm. It was now that Krev Grazl spoke, his facial horns twitching as his daemonic mouth formed the words.
“Call off your troops, or they will all die.”
Nykl’s bionic eye focused on the champion’s face. “I have no choice, do I?”
“You can choose to sacrifice yourself, or accept me as rightful Lord of the Bloodstorm.” Anger seethed from Krev Grazl as he asserted command over this biomechanical human.
“Bloodstorm, cease!” The remaining troops fell back to the inner walls. As they did so, the beasts of Krev Grazl stopped their attack and began to circle the arena, growling and licking the blood from their lips. The mammorks gathered in a herd in the centre of the arena. Krev Grazl lowered his axe and pulled Nykl close to his face.
“This fortress, this army, these footsoldiers of Khorne… are now mine. I am returned! I am revenant!”
The fortress fell silent.
------------
So, after a year of work, behold, Krev Grazl, Lord of the Bloodstorm, The Revenant, Great Mammork Rider.

Majestic arrival for an awesome HQ, and great fluff to go with. Love the weapon effects and the way the head fits with the model too. A worthy ruler indeed.

Thanks! I've done a lot on the Bloodstorm recently. I'm currently building the An'ggrath model and that will be it for a while as I work on some other modelling projects.

Say hello to Obrovský, Champion of Khorne!
Obrovský has gained the favour of Khorne by leaving Bohemus to fight in arenas across the stars. He flies from planet to planet in his stolen Thunderhawk, spreading the worship of Khorne through blood and death.
He has now returned to the Bloodstorm with a cabal of warriors who seek to gain further glory by fighting in the greatest battles in the galaxy.

I've been working on this for a while now. I've always loved the Hydra model, and picked one up at Warhammer World last summer. Once I had a good look at the way the two crew were set up in the photos on the box, I realised I needed to make a diorama. It took a while for it to come together, but seeing the tanks on the Lord of Skulls model finally gave me the idea of having a poor victim being sacrificed in a gory vat of blood. The victim comes from the Thundertusk kit, and the vat is filled with resin. I had to hold the victim while the resin set, but luckily this is a quick set resin and I didn't have to hold it for long before it was solid enough to let go. I hope you enjoy looking at something that I have really enjoyed making!

Quality updates! Loving the new character, using these bloodletter heads on human bodies really work !
Brilliant build on the tank too, very lively torture scene in the back.

Thanks KT! Yeah, the bloodletter heads really do work!

Love the guy being fed into the machine . I had similar ideas for my Iron Warriors years ago with them grinding up demons to power their machines, but you pulled it off in a wonderfully characterful way.

Last week, I bought the Gorechosen boxed game from GW, and immediately realised it would be good if I could use the characters from the Bloodstorm in the game and play out scenarios from the battle for control of the army!
So I scanned in the cards and edited the photos and names to represent the Bloodstorm characters. Here's one example and an image from the game my partner and I started last night.
It's a quick and easy game that has some decent tactical nuances, and it's even better if you use your own characters!

So after spending much breath criticising the pose of the latest Kharn the Betrayer model, I decided to put my modelling knife where my mouth was and create a Kharn with a better pose!

Awesome. Love the slaughter priest conversion, the use of the blood letter head looks great.
Top work on Kharn too.

The Chosen finally have a transport! They won't be riding in a pathetic little rhino, no! They will be dropping out of the sky in a Dreadclaw Assault pod. Death from above! It only took me a year to build and paint this model! I just really struggle to find the motivation to paint flat surfaces!

Some more models created! I've conversion crazy! I've also made lots of use of my new green stuff roller from Green Stuff World!
a) Shooty cultists made from cultists, empire flagellants, skitarii rangers and tzaangors, with female bionic heads from Bad Squiddo
b) Choppy cultists made from the above, plus a blood reaver and cadian bitz
c) Leman Russ with skull cannon and land raider parts
d-f) A creepy daemon engine - see if you can guess the parts!

Nice additions, can't go wrong with cultists !
That demon engine is inspired, you must have rampaged your bitbox for it !
Well, let's see, Forgefiend arm shoulder pipes and tail, Helldrake back, Hellbrute legs, blood slaughterer arm and head. But I might be missing something regarding the belly...
Looking forward to see it painted.

Close! The back is a cannon from a Tyrannofex and the belly parts are from the thunderstrike gauntlet from the Knight Titan kit, as is the heavy stubber. The rest is correct. The claw is made of parts from the plastic verminlord. I think that's it!
I can't seem to stop making cultists. Once you get the hang of sawing those monopose cultists, you can't stop thinking of new ideas! I have 48 for the Bloodstorm now, and enough parts for at least another 16!
I have built two more leman russes (I didn't take pics because they're completely black atm and you wouln't be able to see much) and a chimera so I have a decent renegades and heretics force now.

I've been collecting parts for it for a while. I had no idea what it would look like, but I knew I needed to save suitable parts for some kind of daemon engine. I'm pleased with how it turned out!

This icon was originally going to go on the Great Mammork ridden by Krev Grazl, but it didn't look right, so I left it off, and like most cast-offs, it gathered dust on a shelf for a while. I eventually had the simple idea of mounting it on a base and using it as an objective marker. I could also make use of one of my square bases! The frame is from the Stonehorn kit and the icon is from the Lord of Skulls kit.

Today, I post some images of tanks for the Bohemar Infantry. These three Leman Russ tanks and Chimera will provide support and transport for ever growing force of cultists that swear their allegiance to Stroj and Krev Grazl.
I bought all these tanks already built. The Leman Russes were built as Imperial tanks, except for one that had a mutant on the top. The Chimera had been built to serve chaos, with some spikes on it. I added pipes and other accessories to them all, then added runes of Khorne and Chaos Undivided. I drybrushed them in the same way as the already completed Hydra, and added lots of decals, including the Icon of the Bloodstorm at least once on each vehicle.
Leman Russ Demolisher

Leman Russ Exterminator. The cannon is from a Skullcannon and the lascannon sponsons are from a Land Raider.

Leman Russ Punisher. The gunner was already on the tank, but I added new arms to make them into an inspiring tank commander.

Chimera. This Chimera is a transport for a Squad of Veteran Cultists. The squad (not yet painted) The veterans will all have blood-soaked cloaks, and so the Chimera has a banner on the rear that looks as those cloaks will look.

Neat and red, very cool vehicles corpuschain. I especially like the chimera's rear flag and the dirt effects.
If you can manage a tank group shot with these and the basilik one of these days, that should make for a brutal sight.

Some more cultists for the ranks of the Bohemar! This is one of the more unique squads in the army. As ever, I mixed parts from the Empire flagellants, Skitarii rangers and cultist kits. This squad, however, has some additional heads from the Bad Squiddo Games range, to add a more diverse gender mix to the squad.

As I said on my Unknown Blog, I have been away due to computer problems, but I have been busy with models! The first I wish to reveal is the painted daemon engine. I'll probably run it as a blood slaughterer, as it's a bit smaller than a maulerfiend.

More pics of An'ggrath. I'm really pleased with how he turned out. His skin is a bit more fiery than some of the other BTs, since I added Evil Sunz Scarlet as an extra layer of drybrushing.

Gosh, it's been a while, hasn't it! I've been painting stuff recently, but not much Khorne. All my Khorne stuff seems to be really complex and time consuming at present. I have been giving myself breaks by doing simple tasks like building gaunts or painting rhinos.
But finally I have another Bloodstorm unit to present! Havocs, oh yes! The cannons come from Kromlech and will be run as reaper autocannons.

I haven't updated this blog in... well, years, but just as an act of closure, I thought I'd post the final pics of the finished armies.
First up is the "cultist" part of the force, the Bohemar Infantry, who represent the uprising of the workers in the forges of Bohemus.

And secondly, the full array of Chaos Space Marine and daemonic forces, and the fortress walls that represent the outer perimeter of the main stronghold of The Bloodstorm.
