Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

UK

Just like last month, this poll will run for 48 hours, with the highest-polling entry being the theme for next month's challenge and the second-highest given another shot in the next Subject Poll.

For September 2015, the subjects you can vote on are:

Big Damn Heroes:- whether a mighty champion slaying an equally fearsome foe or an unlikely victor winning against all odds, your entry should convey heroism or heroic actions through the model choice, composition, paintwork or anything else you can think of.

It's a Kind Of Magic:- Your entry must be magical in nature. Anything from a 40k Psyker to a Malifaux Necromancer, a Warhammer Mage to a magical construct.

'Be mindful of your surroundings!'- your model should be in some way interacting with its environment. This could be achieved through basing, a diorama, composition or paintwork, or any other way you can think of.

'Never tell me the odds!':- 6s to Hit, 6s to wound, but you know he can do it! Your entry should feature a model facing some kind of adversity, and standing defiant against it. This could cover anything from a single model in the right context to a full-blown diorama piece.

So, what would you like to paint in September?

Would a flash git or ammo runt (or both) fall into any of these categories?

PM me for an INSANE (100K+ points) if you desire.

Probably not by themselves, but as part of a diorama they could probably fit the last two.

So, if I were to put a Flash Git and an Ammo Runt on a foamcore base with difficult terrain on it (such as a moat), then would that fit 'Be mindful of your surroundings'?

Never tell me the odds. Had a Dr Who idea for this for quite some years.

Backup plan: should Be mindful of your surroundings not win, I found a weapons platform (pic attached) and so, I would cut out foamcore and put the weapons platform, the Flash Git and the Ammo Runt on the foamcore. Would that fit 'never tell me the odds?'

Badrukk, if you perhaps paint them as if they have been in a fight and still want to continue (bloodied, bruised, or hurt, but upright and ready to fight) then it could represent adversity and fit that theme.

I'm sure you'll think of something, you've got a month.

Yeah, that's fine. At the end of the day, you'll be voted on based on the theme, so the closer you get the better!

I voted for Magic, as the others would almost seem to require some kind of diorama to fit the theme (not my strong suit).

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

I think we all have to paint two minis that month. Or one, if you can get it to qualify for both categories.

I’m all for giving Para the tiebreaker if it comes down to it. He’s running this show after all.

It's a kind of magic - Looking to get some Rune Priests made! Although I have a really cool idea for both the Hero and Odds thing. I'm in...

I regret my vote, should've voted for Big Damn Heroes, I just imagined a guardsman jumping from a building down into a pit, both hands around a sword/knife, with a Daemon Prince/a group of Orks/a group of Bloodletters underneath him... UGH!

Please vote for Never tell me the odds.

Hey Para, would an act of insane heroism/deathwish, when all odds are against you, count as a legit entry for Never tell me the odds?

Looks like good odds of winning for “Never tell me the odds”

Why do I always back the loosing horse on these polls. Oh well, I’ve got stuff in mind for 3/4s of the options, and will figure something out if the other one comes out on top.

I'm glad 'Never tell me the odds' is winning. I've already got a plan. But it will not be put into action until the result is determined.

I was gonna vote for Big Damn Heroes, as I just got some big damn Geckos, but that isn't actually the theme it implies

I'm not sure I wanna mess around with a Diorama, but 'Never Tell me the Odds!' is probably gonna win.

Hmm... Too bad I don't have a ~28mm scale falcon laying around... Nope. Not seeing one. I think once upon a time they made one that would almost be scale appropriate but nah. Those are all collectors prices.

I could get the IA Han Solo ally pack and make him fight some storm troopers but.. already painted all of my storm troopers

Meh, I'll have to come up with something at this rate!

I voted for its kind of magic, but if the never tell me the odds wins I think I could come up with something. Might be tough though, Would maybe some DKoK charging chaos marines? I mean they kind of are the epitome of never tell me the odds, for IG at least.

TBH I should have put my vote into magic instead of the odds but, I'm happy with what I chose.

Now if only I could get some more GS. Destiny or Dark Souls would work nicely in this case...
