Assault marines inside of the cathedral
Damn thats a nice board and unit, will have to steal that Hellhound extra armor
Yeah we are very excited to use it
Well the long weekend is almost over and I got a lot done. The infiltrators and vanguards are done just waiting on the weathering power and the rangers are just waiting for the rims to be painted and the transfers to be seal and matted then weathering powder. So that means in about 2 days I have finished 15 models (a new record ). You all might not see me on this thread for a bit as I do not know the next time I will be able to paint but hopefully soon!

Thanks man!
JustaerinAtTheWall wrote:What an excellent choice of color scheme! And so swiftly as well, congrats!
I am really happy I picked out this blue for them as it has worked out very well so far
Well I finally finished the rangers and with that I was able to get the weathering powder down on the rangers vanguard and infiltrators. So with that I only have 5 rust stalkers and 6 kataphrons til the entire army is done! I expect to work on them again when I go home in a few weeks so until then keep painting everyone
Blimey Ustrello the rate and quality at which you paint never ceases to amaze, you are a one man army making machine. The weathering powders have worked a treat, they are especially effective on the Ruststalkers. Am interested to see your take on the Kataphrons as well, what weapon choices have you gone for?

Thanks man, I am making up for years of plastic or primed armies , and glad you like the weathering powders I am a huge fan of them now. As for the kataphrons I am thinking of having one plasma and one grav weapons
Well then it has been a while since I have posted anything but school has kept me busy. But I did get to come home this weekend so I rushed to finish the last bits for my armies on parade and start a primed model stockpile for the coming winter. I was able to paint all of the scions for the AoP board along with getting a banner to hang off of one of the buildings done and on saturday I even won the GW painting competition with my "starter" set of HH raven guard . It is weird getting an AoP board done weeks before the competition so now I can sit back and watch everyone else rush to finish.
Well it has been a while since I last posted. But school is going well it is just not leaving me much free time to do painting, but I will be going to my local GW for armies on parade and I feel that I may be spitballing for a new 40k army soon after I finish the dark mechanicus.
In the mean time the second bat rep with ash got posted a week ago and I realized I forgot to post it here.
Well then it has been a while hope you all haven't missed me too much . But with winter break coming up and having a month and a half for painting and building I have been preparing what I need to do slowly in my mind and one of those have been on my black shields army and a LOW I want to use with them.
So likeI said I will be getting a knight soon and I wanted to try out doing some metallic color schemes specifically with the forgeworld clear paints. Now I know I will need a metallic undercoat and I am planning on quartering or halving red and blue so what would be the best metallic for it silver or gold? Secondly I am fairly new to the clear paint concept so would I base the metallic and then work some areas up to a brighter silver or gold to show where the sun would be hitting? Also do I preshade the recesses with black or just shade later with an actual shade. Lastly what is the general opinion on FW clear paints?
Heretic Tom wrote: I don't know much about the clear paints, but if you're doing blue and red I'd suggest silver rather than gold. Good luck with the knight!!
Also, is there a particular brand or set of weathering powders you'd recommend?
That is what I was thinking, the gold would of worked well with the red but probably not the blue.
As for weathering powder I personally use forgeworld (expensive) or secret weapon miniatures
My ancient "lab"
I welcome your return with open arms! I've never bought from FW, so I cannot attest to the quality of their modelling supplies. But all in all, welcome back!

Thanks man, through some other places I have learned that the clear paints from FW are much better than the stuff from any other paint provider.
According the the Horus Heresy Masterclass, clear paints go over silver basecoat. You can do the preshading with blue and green clear paints, where blue is lighter shadow and green overlapping blue would be darkest parts.
From my short experience with clear paints, you just need two different paints - one brighter and one darker. I/e, Iron Hands Steel and Stormhost Silver on top. I havent tried preshading tho.
And yeah, I've been observing people painting their Mechanicums for quite some time. Angron Red is, imo, superior to Tamya klear :>
As an alternative Ustrello - ElectricEve over on Twitch (Emma who used to do some of the GW tutorial vids alongside the mighty Duncan) just put this handy little guide up on doing 1Ksons metallic red w/out using the FW clear paints. Have a gander

Thanks! I have seen though that the red works the best with a gold or bronze type color to make it warmer and deeper

Ohh I like that, sadly it may not work on the knight as it will be a lot of large flat panels. But it will work on some scenery marines I will be painting up.
Well I finally got some building in over break, this may be all that I get done as a lot of my time is being taken up for a wedding I am apart of. But hey at least I got something done right? I recently put in a forgeworld order as well so my blackshields bar anything major have all been purchased. My break starts in about two weeks so hopefully you all will see a lot of me over that.
So with finals week almost over I decided to buy myself my christmas present early so I can take full advantage of a month and a half of hobby time. With that I sold a few old armies and bought the rest of my blackshields force which included
Knight Castigator with new head
Sicaran venator
6 out rider bikes
Chain axes
Demios rhino
Two Laser vindicators
Chain axes for the last marauder squad and forgeworld clear blue and red paint
In addition to trying and to build and paint the above I have 10 more plastic mk 3 maraines I am turning into marauders and then 10 more assault marines so it will be a tight schedule but I think I can knock a large majority of the army out. So with that I will hopefully see you all on thursday night when I start the washing process
