Game #1

Vs. Tau

Mission: Twilight (w/ preliminary bombardment)

He had:
Commander
Ethereal
3 Crisis Suits
12 Firewarriors
12 Firewarriors
12 Firewarriors
8 Gun Drones
12 Patherfinders+Devilfish
12 Patherfinders+Devilfish
Sniper Drone Team
Railhead

It did not seem like 2000 points, but Tau are a mystery to me. My opponent though was a nice guy, but this was his first game of 4th edition, and he was a bit rusty.

Deployment

I deployed most of my army to my right. As you can see I had my Defiler, Predator, Walking TS marines, a Squad of TS Terminators, Dreadnought, Rhino w/Squad and the last squads of TS Terminators. My goal was to roll up his right flank.

After his first move (and free move) he moves his Devilfish to the far left. He has a squad of fire warriors behind the building and (Devilfish). Behind the little forest in the middle he had his Commander, his Crisis Suits, a fire warrior squad, and the sniper drones were all in the same forest, with the sniper drones the closest. Behind the grey rubble he had his another fire warrior squad and his gun drones, and his hammerhead started behind some forests, and came out to shoot my dreadnought.

Tau Turn #1

At the end of turn one he moved up everything while hiding behind cover. He shoots me with his sniper drones and kills nothing.

Thousand Sons Turn #1.

I shuffle forward, and my rhino breaks down in the river. My dread fire frenzies and kills a fire warrior. I shot my defiler and my predator at the devilfish and shoot a gun off. My army opens up on the sniper drones and kills them.

 Tau Turn #2

1 squad of pathfinders gets out and everything advances behind cover. He shoots his hammerhead at my defiler and misses. He shoots his gun drones at my terminators.

 Thousand Sons Turn #2

I shuffle forward. My defiler uses his flamer and auto cannon on the pathfinders, and my marines on the left head for/and shoot at the building with the firewarriors in it on the left. He moves his crisis suits out in the open, and my predator kills all 3. My dread fire frenzies and kills a fire warrior. Everything else shoots at the few firewarriors I can see behind the area terrain in the middle.

Tau Turn #3

He moves his firewarriors into the rubble and rapid fires my terminators (My terminators failed 6 out of their first 13 saves. That is why I play the Thousand Sons. That is still only 3 models). Hammerhead shoot at my predator and it ignores the stunned result.

 Thousand Sons Turn #3

I shoot some more, and advance some more. Predator and Dreadnought fail to even get a glance on the hammerhead. I am able to assault the firewarriors in the ruble with a squad of termies and my lord. I kill everything in the kill zone, but the survivors stand.

Tau Turn #4 (We roll for night fight and it is still day)

Hammerhead immobilizes my Defiler. I finish the squad of firewarrors in the rubble and look to kill the ethereal who is running for his life.

 Thousand Sons Turn 4

Predator and Dreadnought fail to even get a glance on the hammerhead. My terminators finally get into the woods on the right and put an end to the gun drones that were hiding behind it. I assault the ethereal, and that is the end of him.

Game was called do to time. I had not lost a unit.

Game #2

Thousand Sons vs. Drop Podding marines.

Mission: 6 Loot counters. Roll a D6:1=explosion, 2-4=Nothing, 5-6=The objective worth 300 VPs.

 His list:

Commander w/7 Command squad, Vet Sgt w/Powerfist, Drop pod

8 Veteran Squad, 2 Special Weapons, Vet Sgt w/Powerfist, Drop Pod

8 Veteran Squad, 2 Special Weapons, Vet Sgt w/Powerfist, Drop Pod

8 Tac Marines 2 Special Weapons, Vet Sgt w/Powerfist, Drop Pod

8 Tac Marines 2 Special Weapons, Vet Sgt w/Powerfist, Drop Pod

8 Tac Marines 2 Special Weapons, Vet Sgt w/Powerfist, Drop Pod

8 Tac Marines 1Special Weapons, Vet Sgt w/Powerfist, Missile Launcher, Drop Pod

8 Tac Marines 1Special Weapons, Vet Sgt w/Powerfist, Missile Launcher, Drop Pod

Deployment

Each of us has 3 loot counters to place. There is nothing in the rules saying that they have to be spaced apart, so we placed them all together.

On the dice roll to choose deployment zone was based on strategy rating. Since I was rolling 2 dice to 3, but I won it. That was a huge help, because I realized that if I had to cross the entire board to get to the markers, I would be screwed.

Here is my Deployment. As you can see, I grabbed a corner. I wanted to space out a bit so he can’t get near my vehicles for a melta gun shot.

I win the roll to do first and let him go.

Marines turn #1

*Crickets chirping*

Thousand Sons Turn #1

I shuffle forward and I move on to several markers, and on the first one I roll a ‘6’.

Marine Turn #2

He gets the command pod and 2 tac pods. He tries to separate me from the objective and drops the command squad between us, but it drifts 10” to the right. He then places the next drop pod and it scatters 9” up the board. And then his final pod comes down where he wants it. He shoots some, but I make an inv save and some armor saves.

Thousand Sons Turn #2

I move forward and shoot, and then assault. The units that will not be assaulting I try to space out to hold the line to keep him from getting behind me. My terminators on each flank charge at a squad (With my lord on the right, and my LT on the left), and my rhino squad engages the middle squad. I take some casualties, but give more than I take. Each squad gets reduced to 2-3 guys, but they all make their moral rolls.

Marine Turn #3

He gets 3 more drop pods and still tries to separate me from the objective. Since everyone on the objective side is engaged, he is unable to shoot at anything. At the end of the turn I finish off the few models that I am still assaulting.

After the drop pods land

At the end of his turn.

Thousand Sons Turn #3

My vehicles shoot the drop pods. I kill several of them. But I can’t roll a 5 or 6 to remove them, so I just crawl over the difficult terrain and assault. On the left my Lt bites the dust and I am left with just my terminator aspiring champion. My marine squad in the middle is mired down in a bloody fight with a tac squad, and my lord is single-handedly going through everything he meets.

Marine turn 4

Two more drop pods come down. One in the middle still trying to retake the objective, and th

Thousand Sons Turn #4

I assault and I am grinding down his remaining tac squads.

Marines Turn #5

The last drop pod lands behind the defiler (it almost scattered off of the board).

Its squad gets out and kills the Defiler. He is running out of marines.

Thousand Sons Turn #5

I shoot the marines that killed the defiler with my predator.

Turn 6

Nothing happens and I end up with the win.

Hey!! What happened to the rest of your RTT report? This is a day old and a third done.

I had to work on Labor day. And where are your batreps?

Also post your list while I work on the last one.

You don't post a batrep around here unless you win the RTT. Nobody wants to see the army list of the guy who lost, they want to see yours, just yours.

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

Part 3 of my 3 part series...

So, I am 2-0 going into the final round. I joke around with Darrian13 (who is also 2-0) about how he is not going to dodge me this time. We have been at the last 2 RTTs together and have had the same record (2-0-1 and 3-0) but he has won both of them. So I am hoping that we will get to test our play ‘man-to-man’. The organizer was calling the pairings in a random order, so I was wondering if I was going to get my shot at him, and sure enough, he called our names, and it was on!

Game #3 [/b]

Blackmoor’s Thousand Sons vs. Darrian13’s Lunar Wolves

 [/b]

Mission:[/b] Cleanse (uh-oh! My Thousand Sons hate cleanse because I have so few scoring units, and they move so slow)

Lunar Wolves:

Commander w/Terminator Command squad w/2 assault cannons

Inquisitor Lord w/3 mystics, Emperor’s Tarot, and a psychic hood!

Terminator Squad w/2 assault cannons

Terminator Squad w/2 assault cannons

Terminator Squad w/2 assault cannons

8 Man tac squad w/vet sgt. with a powerfist and 2 melta guns in a drop pod

8 Man tac squad w/vet sgt. with a powerfist and 2 melta guns in a drop pod

8 Man tac squad w/ 2 plasma guns in a drop pod

Land Speeder Tornado

Land Speeder Tornado

2 Land Speeder Tornado

So it looks like it is a match up between Assault Cannons vs. Bolts of Change.

Pre-game I have to go to the restroom and when I comeback, I see Bakara talking to Darrian13, and he was warning him about my army!

Deployment

Darrian13 likes to start with his assault cannons on the table and his pods in reserve. I won the roll to choose table corners, and I choose the one that puts him in the least amount of cover so my lascanons can out range him. I had the advantage of putting down units that were inconsequential like my Defiler and my Dreadnought to figure out how he was going to deploy before I commit my army. He ended up grouping all of his terminators to the left, and so I countered with all of my army directly across from them. He deployed his command squad in the middle of the table all by them selves, and I thought I could make them a non-factor while I poured the firepower on the main body of troops. He also scattered his landspeeders around, but out of range of my infantry. I was not sure how badly all those assault cannons would hurt 2 wound marines and terminators, but I knew how badly 10 Bolts of Change and 4 Lascanons would hurt him.

Thousand Sons Turn #1

Even with the Emperor’s Tarot I still go first. I move my rhino up and behind the forest and pop smoke. I get some good movement rolls and move closer so everyone is within 24” and I unleash hell! My defiler has no good targets so he shoots at a landspeeder in the middle of the table and destroys it. I end up shooting my entire army at the closest terminator squad and kill only 4 terminators. His psychic hood blocked about 5 out of 10 Bolts of Change. My dreadnought picks off one of the command squad termies.

Luna Wolves Turn #1

He moves forward some and returns fire. He shoots at my Lord and my Lt with his landspeeders because they have thrall wizards with them making them targetable and kills the Lt’s thralls and the Lords thralls, and puts a wound on the Lord. They are now IC’s and can’t be targeted. He then fires his command squad at my Dreadnought, but does not get any ‘6’. Then his terminators open up on my terminators on the right and kills 3 of them.

Thousand Sons Turn #2

He moved his hated Inquisitor with his psychic hood into the forest in the upper right. I lob a battle cannon shot at them from across the table and scatter a little and kill 2 mystics. I pop a few shots at his landspeeders and stun a couple. I move my rhino squad up and disembark. He blocks one of my Winds of Chaos, but not both. I rapid-fire at the survivors. And then I shoot at the terminators and I do better against that Psychic hood. As you can see, there are a lot less terminators than there was before.

Luna Wolves Turn #2

His Inquisitor runs for his life and hides behind the forest. He only gets one drop pod and lands right next to my dreadnought. He shoots it and only stuns it. He moves his stunned land speeders to the top of the table. He shoots his terminators at my TS marine squads and kills a few.

Thousand Sons Turn #3

I shuffle forward and move my rhino so screen my TS marines from some fire. I shoot and kill/remove his drop pod. My dreadnought charges the marines after I kill several with shooting. His vet sgt. with a powerfist knocks off my dreadnought CCW and they stay in combat.

Luna Wolves Turn #3

He gets another drop pod and tries to rapid-fire his plasma guns at my terminators and ends up rolling 3 over-heats and one plasma gunner dies. My dreadnought kills one marine, and the last Sgt. dies to being outnumbered.

Thousand Sons Turn #4

I shoot at a landspeeder with my rhino and stun it. I shoot the other drop pod off of the table and charge the marines with my Terminators. My dreadnought Charges the command squad. I want to stop it from shooting and knocking down some scoring units. The dreadnought does nothing, and his terminators knocks off the lascanons.

Luna Wolves Turn #4

He gets his last drop pod and lands to the far right to kill the defiler that was hiding in the bushes. He gets lucky and kills it (if he didn’t, the defiler should kill all of them).

Thousand Sons Turn #5

This is where it starts to get dicey. I have 3 scoring units, and he has 3 landspeeders, the command squad and the marines that kill the defiler. I need to kill those landspeeders. I move so I can claim table quarters and try to get shots at those speeders. I have a choice of either charging my terminators on the right at the command squads, or trying to shoot the landspeeders. I chose the speeders and didn’t get a glance. I shoot my small TS marine squad in the upper right and they kill a tornado. My rhino shoots at another tornado and downs it. In combat the terminators kill my dreadnought.

Luna Wolves Turn #5

The command squad terminators back up and try to knock the TS terminator squad down to half with shooting, but fail to do it.

Thousand Sons Turn #6

It is now 3 scoring units to 3. Landspeeder, Command Squad and Marines on the far right vs. my Predator, TS Terminators, and TS marines’ squad. I can’t move my Predator because if I roll a ‘1’ I am screwed. If I charge the Command squad with my terminators, we would knock each other down to below scoring, so I charge them with my Lord and my Lt. One thing about chaos is that their HQs kick butt, and I am able to wipe out the command squad.

Luna Wolves Turn #6

He can’t do much, and the game ends.

One table quarter is contested, and he owns one, and I own 2.

It was a good game and those close nail-biters are the best.

I will say that his MVP was that stupid Inquisitor. That Psychic hood slowed down a ton of shooting.

@Mauleed, Did you know that a 1000 Sons list can outshoot a SAFH Marine list? I sure didn't. Thank God I had a psychic hood or the game would have been over on turn 4.

So I guess that the list has more than just 2 wounds going for it?

While the 2 wounds is enormous (sarcasm) the 10 bolts of change that Allan was planning on hitting me with for the 3-4 turns that the thralls lasted were the real problem. My psychic hood did it's job and stopped about 40-45% of his attacks but that was nowhere near enough for me to win.

Nice job on the tourney, btw, loot counters cannot deploy within 12 inches of a table edge or 12 inches of another loot counter.

Actually, that's defined by the mission; since they didn't give the rules in the mission pack, they were free to place them as they liked. They didn't use the usual Loot counter rules, either; not all of them were worth points, and some went boom...

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;

The only rules they had for them was that they could not be placed in a deployment zone.

And they had very small deployment zones. 12" in from the table quarter edge.

I while back I spent a good three months making rubric terminators. A friend asked to buy them from me. As part of the deal I got an 1850 point army for those terminators. I also need to paint the rest of his army. Well, that was a good while ago, and he seemed to have lost interest in the idea. But then I saw Blackmore's list and tried the thralls/ BoC idea. I proxied a list similar to the one shown here. He showed up with drop pods for the first time. I absolutely crushed him. He said it was his worst lose ever. (Oh, and he is a very good marine player.) Now the rest of the KSons has been put to the from of my painting queue.

Well, I played at an RTT last Saturday at the LA Battle Bunker, and I had the worse loss that I have had in years. As you can see by my RTT record below, I do well at RTTs. But I was wiped out down to my dreadnought.

Of course it was to a Thousand Sons army that was the perfect counter to mine.

It was good meeting you Blackmoor, sorry you lost in the RTT. Better luck next time, but the guy you played is good and a cool guy to boot. I have seen him beat a lot of people at the Bunker. I was glad that i was not the only player that had to leave early, that thing ran really late.

Hopefully we will get the chane to play again, maybe at the next GE RTT? at any rate, take care, hope you have a good week.

I have questions about the points costs Blackmoor (I spelled it correctly this time). For your walking squad I am coming up with 276, not 266. Bolt of Change is 30pts, yes? 24 per + fist + spell, + 3 thralls.

The real question I came top ask was about the terminators. I had been charging 8 points to upgrade my power weapon to a chainfist. I'm thinking now that I need to charge 18 because these guys are not chosen. Is that correct.

I also have a rules question in general. Rubrics are I1 and the sorcerer AC has WS4, BS4, and I4. This is what my version of the codex says/ suggests, but I think I am remembering old lists or new revisions. Something in my head is just saying, "Make sure these are correct".

How interesting that your worse loss was to KSons. What countered you? What did he have?
