jees, a game with no painting. I will be all over this when it comes out. I am sure there is going to be a move to prepainted minis over the next couple of years. My reasoning is gaming companies will realise they need to get people playing quicker to sustain their interest. I would love to play skaven or O&G, but there is no way I am building or painting a 2-10 point model - just isn't going to happen. I have just sold my WM stuff because I couldn't face building, painting and learning another game. It had sat on a gaming shelf for 3 or 4 months.

They do look pretty cool, but I'm just not into the whole pre-painted thing.  I tried it with Mechwarrior....I just don't really dig it.

Hark, is that the sound of small metal pins being knocked into a body sized wooden box?

Looking soooo sweet. Have no issue with painted or prepainted, if the paint job is pants, then I'll over paint. In the mean time I can play with them until I get around to it. As far as I'm aware they starter sets are the only things coming as prepainted, but this is a rumour.

What is that I hear? GW Execs choking on their own hubris? AT-43 looks absolutely fecking AWESOME. Those battle suits are the bees knees!

I don't, however, think prepainted is going to take over the painted market. I still like building and painting my own models and will continue to
do so. I'm also pretty sure that several of those figures have had "aftermarket" touch ups and aren't all representative of what the prepainted
figures will actually look like. Regardless, I do like 'em and I'm looking forward to the game coming out.

I don't doubt these are the real figs, but I bet the version available for purchase won't look anything like this.

Remember all those photos of the clickybase figs?

Remember how they looked when you actually got them?

Yeah...

The robot guys would make interesting Necrons. The big crab thing in particular blows the Tomb Spyder model outta the water so badly it's ridiculous. I can't see myself getting into this game or prepainted minis, but hopefully it'll keep pushing GW to improve their sculpts...

I think the models are nice and painting them shouldn't be too bad but I wish more hand full face helmets or something over their eyes. I hate painting eyes.

Seeing as how they're being offered prepainted, I don't think that's going to be an issue.

Wow, those do look pretty dang good. I am still on the fence about how prepainted will affect the hobby, im old school, like to see unique creations, but there are good arguments both ways.

Bottom line though, those are some nice looking models, if in fact they do come packaged to that quality, but Rackham is a very artistically oriented company, it wouldnt surprise me if they did put ou tthe best prepainted stuff to date. Their confrontation stuff is just amazing.

and i agree with gorgon, the necron design team should be looking to inspriation from these guys, some of those models would be great as necrons. A Necron dreadnaught would be sweet.

I think it's the sprue for the big Therion crab walker. That particular picture shows the contents of the "Operation Damocles" starter set due out this December.

Unfortunately it may still be an issue. From most of the pictures I've seen, it appears that the faces aren't getting much detail - eyes, teeth, etc. I guess it's still to early to know though. Just a few more months...

I dig the "Necrons", prepainted or not, it should be an extra and not cost more because of it. I guess that there will be some people disliking painting so much that
they would rather start an prepaited game so cost for prepainting would even out due to these new players. (in theory)

There will be a great many Front Mission conversion armies

The models are underwhelming though. Not bad, but not really distinct

also whats with that early early promo mecha that was up years ago? Is that a yet unseen 3rd faction or did they drop the humanoid approach entirely

Do you mean this one, Kikkoman?

No idea. but am eagerly awaiting this release. Its looking better and better as the days go by. It actually looks like it could be a decent replacement for 40K I have been looking for (SST didnt really do it for me, even though it really is a great game).

Even if they are not prepainted in a particularly awesome way, it still wont be bad. Mechwarrior wasnt that bad for the mechs, it was the damnable 6 mm troops that sucked bad, but then again, they were 6mm. No, mechwarrior was definatly not bad for what they were.

I would actually prefer to buy prepainted, as I am getting tired of buying oodles of models that just idly sit there, patiently waiting for me to do something with them (heaven forbid I field an unpainted army). I need a break from painting. I wanna play immediatly (one of the great selling points of mechwarrior clix, the rules killed it for me though) and not hope to one day play a game I invested alot of money into.

Indeed, the prepainted era is going to come to light. My only question is how they will be able to prepaint a high quality (like they advertise) and not have a warehouse of well trained paint-slaves doing the job? Sweat shops or no sweat shops, doing this part of the manufacturing process has got to be a logistical and quality control nightmare.

I am definatly buying into this game.

I would think so. I hope to be the target demographic there, as I am tired of painting. I wanna game.

A game for gamers, not a game for "Hobbyists-who-spend-far-too-much-on-unpainted-unassembled-models-in-hopes-of-one-day-playing-when-the-stars-are-right".

There is definatly a market. Its rather obvious really. Look at GW target demographic. Little kids spending daddys money. They have no skillz in such manners, but with this game, they can play a good looking game ( "Just like I saw in White Dorf!" ) and be happy. The parents will be happier too, no further money spent on getting the kids overpriced paints, toxic glues, sharp cutting implements, etc.

Plus, this way the kids can spend more money on  what got them into the game, the models themselves. A lot less drop out in terms of losing customers due to loss of interest ( "I cant paint right, this game is dumb. I have never played it yet because I cant paint" ).

I do think prepainted will do nothing but increase in interest. Especially if the quality is above par.

Ah, even if the detail is soft there, it would be pretty simple to dot in the iris and even then that would probably only be done by the most compulsive/perfectionistic amongst us (like myself). I am, however, hoping they will also offer the same figures unpainted or unassembled as I prefer to do that work myself.

That's something I'd like to know to, as that was one bad arse mech that I would love to have in 28mm (or whatever scale this game is in). As mentioned in one of the other threads, there another human faction is the Red Blok, which that may belong to. If so, and if the figures are like the power armor art Elusive linked to in that thread, I'll be all over that like white on rice, prepainted or not.

UPDATE

The rackham site just gave us official pics of what is included in the damocles box set. This info is all of 15 minutes old as of this post.

Here is a link for the Rackham forum this was gleaned from. en-forum.confrontation.fr/viewtopic.php

Here is a quote from the site:

"Here are a few photos of the Definitive Operation Damocles box, as with the  Definitive prepainted quality.
Those photos show the minis as they will be in the released boxset, and have been slightly enhanced since the last photos we showed."

(emphasis my own. I assume we can expect the minis and contents to be exactly as seen here)

The game itself:

And some of the models close up (judging by the quality, I would say that these are the prepainted ones)

Nice, especially for prepainted ones. Sure they aren't golden deamon, but heck, i cannot paint that good, either!

Anyone knows the price of that set?

Horizontal fixed.

What worries me about this game setup, is that the press release for the boardgamegeek pdf states the game has two firetoads and twelve golems.

I only count one firetoad and eight golems.

Weird.

As far as price goes, I checked the alliance site awhile ago, and couldnt find anything on at-43 under the rackham heading. So even the distributors are in the dark officially for right now.

Those do look incredibly well-painted for pre-painted minis. So much so, in fact, I can't help doubting that this will be the final product. Here's hoping I'm wrong.

One problem with pre-painted models and parents. Sure you don't pay a lot for paints and glue, but a lot of parents are ok with gaming because it is not just a game, but a hobby. To assemble and paint takes discipline and skill. Like model building, parents can identify with it. Without that aspect it just becomes "toys", which are looked down upon, especially with an older child. Just as well get out your old Star Wars and GI Joe figs and play with them at that point.

I really dislike pre-painted. Too close to click stuff for me. I just as well go play a board game. I have always loved miniature gaming for the entire hobby aspect of it. Part of the reason I don't play Squad Leader any more.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

anyone have a handle on how the rules are going to be? Confrontation, IMO of course, was a terrible ruleset but great models. I'm hoping this won't fall into the same thing..
