Sounds like a pretty neat game for sure, and that skaven is looking better and better.

But that skaven dude. Dag. That one is pretty slick.

The glowey hammers thing was pretty good too

I'm not invested (at all) in AoS. More indifferent but willing to give it a go and play it at some stage when I get around to it. Then again, I play KoW with (mostly) the WHFB background as "my" fluff. I'm happy to use the AoS models (ok, once I paint some) simply as bigger, nastier Orcs or Chaos guys or so forth. The Warhammer World was always a massive melange of ripped-off ideas from everywhere else, so I find it easy enough to fit most things in or just see "Seraphon" as good Olde Lizardmans. Not sure how I'll work Sigmarines into my own personal head-fluff. Maybe go old-school when the WHFB world was a feral world that was isolated from the imperium via warp-storms, and the Sigmarines can be Space Muhreens that "fell to Earth" or summat...

So here in jolly Britain we're having a nice bit of 25°C summer heat, which is both a blessing and a curse. No sleep at night and unbearable humidity in the day.

Skavey-Boy Smith is coming along nicely. is that 25C days, or nights?

Cheers

25C days and about 23-24C nights.

Also, I caved and bought these... Should make the Knight's base look awesome! You get 2 of each sprue.

I'd tease you about the daytime temperature , but 20+ degree nights aren't a lot of fun.

Are the basing sprues detailed on both sides?

Yes, yes. I know places like Oz etc are truly exceptional when it comes to heat . But for the UK 20C+ days and nights aren't all that common lol.

Re the basing sprues: a few pieces are, yes.

@Az: Skavey-Boy Smith? Excellent stuff.

@AoV: What are the various bits on the basing sprues? I am struggling to tell with some of them.

Any colour scheme plans for the Tzeentch fellows?

Mulling it over, but I quite like the studio paint schemes in all fairness, so may just go with that.

Hello one and all, real life has been a bit of a busy body so I've not had much opportunity to hobby. I did however, make a start on the Tzeentch Sorcerer Lord from the WHQST: Mighty Heroes bundle. Cracking set of models . Rather nice of GW to recut this fellow so his scenic base will sit on square or round bases now.
Base coated all the armour with Retributor Gold, followed up with the lovely new Gloss Agrax Earthshade. Adds great definition to the recesses on your model without toning the base coat down. He won't be wearing solid gold armour here though. I'll be going around all the plates to give it a blue-green look. So Stegadon Green should fit the bill nicely.

I'm also going to try and give him a pale skin tone with Rakarth Flesh and build up from there to give him a sort of albino appearance

Also got around to building the Knight-Venator, who is by the way, ing huge (60mm base). The Star Eagle is a nightmare to attach (for me, at least) as the celestial energy trailing off him slots into part of the lettering on the Venator's parchment.

As ever thanks for viewing and hopefully I should be able to get back on track..

Hello all, been a bit quiet here lately as I've been mired in life stuff. Not much hobbying is getting done. Blah.
I did however, manage to get a couple of games of Silver Tower played. Last weekend was the Trial of Chamon(The realm of Metal) and this week's game was the Trial of Ghyran(The realm of Life). No photos for the former, but a couple for the latter.

We started out pretty well, only having to deal with the Grot Scuttlings and the occasional Pink/Blue/Brimstone horrors. Easy, right?
Spoiler:

As we delved deeper into the Silver Tower, we had a visit from the insanely badass Skaven Deathrunner. Thankfully, he wasn't able to deploy his Illusory Twin ability which would've had us fighting two of them. With 13 wounds each, it would've been a bloody hard slog to put them down. Basically, you have to kill one of them and roll a D6 to see if the one you killed is the real Deathrunner. On a 1-3 it's the illusion, 4-6 it's the real guy. He came back for another go later on, after we got an Unexpected Event generated from the Destiny Phase. He offers you a Warpstone Bomb to make peace, if you haven't already pulled it from the Treasure deck. We had already drawn that card from the deck, so he attacked us.
After putting him down quite violently, we made our way to the Mysterious Vortex chamber. If you jump through the Vortex, it resets the map with whatever Exploration cards you have left and teleports you into the Ingress chamber. This is the tile you start the game on.
Fighting our way through Tzaangors, we reached the Spore Cave.
Spoiler:

This is the Confrontation chamber for the Trial of Ghyran. In it, we were greeted by the Ogroid Thaumaturge and 4 of his Tzaangor buddies. Now, in the chamber there's 2 mushroom clusters that disperse healing spores for the adversaries in the chamber. Balls. On top of killing the beast men and the Ogroid, you have to chop the mushrooms up to prevent them from healing. I had already taken a stomping from the Ogroid's hooves and I had failed to heal up. My brother was trying to hack the Ogroid but unfortunately he kept healing! I had sent my Gryph-hound off to get rid of the Spore shrooms, by which time the Ogroid had stomped us to death. Fail.

Conclusion:

I have come to the conclusion that the Warpriest is best kept further back, where possible. The Gryph-hound can deal a good bit of damage compared to his war hammer. He also has an area effect ability, that burns all adversaries stood in the chamber with him.

The Darkoath Chieftain is a human blender, who deals D3 damage with a swing of his sword(action requires a 4+ to use on his action dice and hits on 3+). If he kills the target he can have a pop at any adversaries in range, using the Deathblow ability. You can only use this once per turn, so you're better off using this on large groups. If you don't have any action dice with a 4+ or above, he can use his axe on a 1+.

He's actually pretty solid. Though the parchment and the star eagle are my main points of concern. The wings are fine and can take a bit of hammer. If you pack him up properly, he's not a problem. That's what I love about HIPS- soo much more forgiving than metal or resin.

Getting back into the hobby (painting wise at least) after 3 weeks of next to no activity is hard :/

Spent an hour or so working on my SE Retributors and tried out the Reikland Fleshshade Gloss on the gold. Not entirely happy with it. I may go back and hit it with the normal stuff. What do you guys think?

Also added a couple of layers of Ironbreaker to the silver armour, but leaving enough to show off the Coelia greenshade.

I definitely like the look of the gloss Agrax better than the Reikland on the gold. The gold on the sorcerer looks exceptional.

Good luck getting back into it AOV, painting up a unit of three Retributors should do the job.

I have another 5 Retributors awaiting assembly, but I won't put them together until I've done ALL of my assembled SCE guys!

Not sure if I want to make them into more Retributors or build them as Decimators or Protectors, though. The Retributors need a minimum of 3 models for a unit, but the Decimators and Protectors need a minimum of 5 models for a unit.

Good motivation to get them painted up then. So what SCE models have you left to paint? I have still got to paint up my AOS starter set...they seem to have been sitting around for an age.

Most things have paint on them to some degree, just have to polish em off!

**edit: I went back and did the Reikland shade wash with the classic stuff.. Much better results! I then dry brushed Golden Gryphon over it, which to be honest creates a better look than with Runefang or Necron compound.

On a further note, I got fed up of my paints being buggered up, so I've gone and bought some stainless steel ball bearings. About 4.5mm diameter, to act as an agitator to help really mix the paint thoroughly when I shake the pots.

This guy looks really good. So, the Gloss washes work differently to the matte ones? Not covering/staining but running into the recesses instead? I might ave to pick some up in that case for a play.

Yeah pretty much. Not really very good for all over washes on super detailed stuff like the lion shoulder pad on the Retributor Prime, but useful for armour such as the Tzeentch Sorcerer Lord's.

On a further note, my little experiment with the stainless steel bearings in the paint pots appears to have worked like a charm. The paint is mixed far more efficiently!
