HI all,

Wow! Looks like a few more people have checked in after this thread was posted on Dakka's main page. Welcome and have fun!

I've been back to work on Tactical Squad Ultra. Models are starting to get put together. Not a whole lot of progress to show.

I also put together my first drop pod. They go together fairly well. The squad insignia on the drop pod matches the right shoulder pad of the marines. I have left it in a few pieces in an effort to make it easier to paint.

Thanks and take care

Wellll, originally he was. However, on the advice of people whom had used Blood Angels, Woody was switched to a Sanguinary Priest. The horse just didn't fit with the rest of the army.

Buzz as Tycho does work very well

I can't wait to see what you do with the pull cord!

This reminds me of a guy who made 'The Avengers' as his as his terminator squad. That was when I was just watching my brother play about 10 years ago.

Ack! I had not thought about that. I'll have to think of something. Thanks for the heads up

The weather in Northern New Jersey has been a bit ... odd of late. It was warm enough to prime a couple models this past weekend. I am using the special and heavy weapons marines from tactical squad Ultra. They won't be used during most games because Buzz and Woody will be joining the squad in a drop pod.

The missile launcher marine is primed gray. The plan is to layer up to white. This process may take awhile to paint ... which leads to the plasma gun marine. The plasma gunner is primed white. The plan is to use Vallejo's pale wash and than highlight with white. I hope the pale wash looks good because that will save a lot of time. We'll see which one "wins"

Thanks and take care

This has been a treat to watch come together, very fun idea and great execution so far.

I have one small suggestion, take it or leave it, but for Rex, have you considered doing something like this to him?

I think it would help get across his character a little bit more if you had painted on teeth like the fighter above. Would be pretty funny as well!

Just a thought! Keep up the great work.

I'm leaning that way too, but the gray base may have a more "cartoonie" look (like the army men).

gobbledog wrote:I want you to do the prospector. What was his name? Stinky Pete? A techmarine maybe?

Stinky Pete is a bad guy. I may just have to do a chaos army featuring all the bad guys of Pixar. Evil Emperor Zurg, Stinky Pete, Lotso Huggins Bear, Warp Darkmatter, Syndrome, Henry J Watermoose. Hmmm, this sounds like fun.

Thanks. I like where you're going with the teeth idea. I have to admit that I may not have the erm.... stones to try this. I like how Rex currently looks, but I've felt it was missing something. Where do you think the "mouth" should go?

Hi all,

Had some time to slap some paint on the test models.

I used Vallejo Pale wash over a white basecoat. The photos are difficult to see the gray, but they look okay. I may have to do some black-lining to make the model "pop". The gray wash is almost to subtle.

The gray base resembles the army men "cartoonie" look. I like the look for this army.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the models are finished.

Thanks and take care

This is all sorts of amazing. I love the scouts but I can't bend my mind round to that dreadnought! It's a great conversion and awesome paint job no doubt, however.

If I were you I'd make more of them to sell to Salamander players, just not with sentinel legs!

Yep. I plan on having a giant pink Stormraven flying around the board. I'll make a few conversions to it, but not to much. I'm thinking lascannon to represent the death ray.

Just my opinion but don't you think that Hamm the Airship should go in a villain army as Hamm is played out as a villain when Andy plays with his toys.

Mmm i agree, the pale wash over the white hardly shows the wash. But over the grey it is much more obvious and looks better.

Shoosh! Don't tell anyone. Thematically, you are correct but I can't resist the idea of having a giant pink pig flying around the board.

M0rdain wrote:Mmm i agree, the pale wash over the white hardly shows the wash. But over the grey it is much more obvious and looks better.

Yeah, the photos aren't the best. I use a point and shoot camera that (for the most part) takes decent photos and my editing skills are weak (on a good day). As I think about it the white I used was very thin. If i use a thicker white I think it will look a tad better. I may even break out the white glaze

Time for a bit of color on the test models.
I was curious to try one of Reaper's triads. I picked up a blue-green triad containing Stormy Sea (shade), Clouded Sea (base), Seafoam Blue (highlight). They will be used on chest iconography, shoulder pad base, and eyes. I did manage to forget to paint the eyes. D'oh!

To make the transitions a bit smoother I went with an ink wash. I tried two different washes. First was a turquoise ink from Reaper and the second was a mix of my creation based on LBursleys wash/ink recipe (20 drops cyan blue, 40 drops paynes grey). Each shoulder pad set has one of each color. The turquoise made made the color a bit greener and the cyan grey made the color appear more blue.

Next up - purples!

Thanks and take care

Also, even If you just do one model, you should definitely represent Zurg in some way.
Maybe a heavily converted chaos character?

I did a Buzz Lightyear. He was a lot of fun to do up. I did just the one but I kept the paint schemes incase I ever want to do another. I started working on on of the inquisitors to make into a Woody but I have only barely started with him.

Too many 'Nids and IF's to do still.

Here are some pics;

Don't take this the wrong way. Please post pics of your Woody when he is finished.

Thanks and will do.

Added some purple to the test models.

Not much purple on the hands so I only included a picture of basecoat. When painting the rest I think I will tone done the amount of pink highlights.

Currently, the gray base coat has taken the lead. I added some more layers of white paint to the gray base and it seems, to me, to make a big positive difference. Any thoughts?

I did forget Thanks for a heads-up.

I got a fair amount of painting done last night. The green parts are complete. It''s not an exact copy of a Space Ranger but it should be fairly clear what is going on.

I used Knarloc green on the gray based model and Orkhide Green on the white based test model. I prefer the Knarloc and the gray base is a now firmly in the lead.

Next up - shoulder pads get some black.
