Orlot Var is nasty and horrific. Well done indeed.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Those new Scyllax Guardian-Automata are great, I think they bear something of a resemblance to my Dark Mechanicus Geists too, as if maybe the Geists evolved from them. I may have to pick some up at some point.

Some changes to the blog: www.exprofundis.com and a WIP update from Julian Bayliss too.

The Cannibal Prince is a grotesque, corpulent beast. Well executed. I love all, what I assume, are vials of blood?

The Necarch is great as well. Looks horribly decayed. Love the purple tones.

The Scyllax do look like Geist forebears. I can still see them being used. I think replacing the end weapons with Dark Eldar surgical tools and injectors might be a way to go. Horrific Mechanicus surgeons.

The Dreadfleet stuff by Julian is very inspiring. Thanks for sharing.

'I love all, what I assume, are vials of blood?'

- Good idea, I had thought they might be rare gems and eldar spirit stones, but in truth I hadn't thought of a good way to explain them besides the fact that gems don't seem unsuitable for a slaanesh prince.

Looks great. I know you said it's an obvious conversion but it's been pulled off seamlessly.

Good to see the fluff is flowing again.

Dang I like that vampire and that vampire.

Missed the Necrarch, you've captured it perfectly. Great use of that base model.

The Lahmian's pet wolf is sweet. I've never seen a decent dire wolf until now (hand on is that a choas hound?). Edit - holy heck mate the pattern on the back of the Lahmien is so well executed and subtle.

The dog is actually a thunderwolf with a dire wolf head (which I think goes to show that dire wolves have screwed up proportions). I was discussing the thunderwolf model on another thread and I still don't like the sculpt, I've covered it in flock to try and make it's fur look more matted which I feel helps a little.

The pattern on the lahmian is all over, but very faded in places and impossible to photograph as it only shows up when it catches the light - I got the idea when doing the fat bloke's cushions.

The necrarch actually doesn't have a base model, it's a real mongrel - bloodletter torso, DE legs, kroot arms, horror hands, etc. I don't love that conversion though, a haemonculous might make for a better necrarch.

I really thought it was based off the plastic haemonculous. Well now its even better.

The dire wolves are really weird looking in a bad way. The scale is all over the place. The matted fur from flock is very effective.

I always thought the old metal haemonculi would make great vampires. In fact I prefer the old metal haemonculi models to the new ones.

I got to be honest man, I've spent the past 3 days combing through your blog and your work is just incredible. The conversion aspect of the hobby has always been my favorite part and your work is just phenomenal. It's inspired me to start working on my own terrain and to find the rule sets for the various skirmish games that you made those crews for. I am looking forward to making my own Necromunda. Mordheim, and INQ28 crews. Thanks for sharing all of that.

I wasn't entirely happy with the pit fighter I made, so I've modified him slightly:

Really just removed his topknot, which helps make him look squatter and heavier, and altered his leg.

Love it. Great armor chipping and I really love the whale icon and the story of the Blue Whale order.

Now that I think about it Whales would make great symbols for Wh40k; we already have space sharks but I think a fleet-based marine chapter with a whale icon would be very cool,

I'm really in to whales, I guess in today's society a whale is a bit boring when it's not as big as a Godzilla and it can't transform or breath fire or anything, but in olden times they were legendary monsters and I think in the Old World, even though they have dragons and sea monsters, whales would still be a pretty impressive creature, possibly even more mythical than the pretty common manticores, griffins and such that get all over the place.

As such I thought they would make a good knightly order, plus I copied it slightly from Berserk which is a constant source of inspiration. It also has the Purple Rhino Knights but that might be stretching it somewhat.

I'm not sure whales would work for Space Marines, unless it was clear it was a predatory whale like that fether from Pinnochio. I had an idea for a herbivore space marine chapter - The Mastodons - a bit like huge, slow, relaxed Space Wolves.

The Knight is looking excellent -- love the whale symbol as well.

If you're into whales as mythical monsters, you should definitely give Dishonored a spin. In addition to its brilliant art direction and gameplay strengths, it really cranks the coolness factor of whales up to eleven, even if they are not quite the whales we know...

Excellent work, as always!

I love the idea of manticores being commonplace but whales as legendary monsters.

Although I'd like to think whales in the warhammer world would be more akin to medieval conceptions like this:

I tried Dishonoured a while ago but bounced off it, felt a bit too cartoony for me, but if it has whales in it I might give it another go.

The Old World must be a pretty confusing place for regular folk, I suspect it's folly to try to imagine everyone having a medieval mindset - all scared of witches and such - they are probably extremely open-minded. Your average Empire Joe is probably bored of cleaning dragon crap off his lawn, once dated a witch at high school and is saving up for a second hand unicorn. You could probably tell him about whales and he'd accept it without a moment's hesitation: 'yeah sure, massive fish thing, why not? Is that a nurgle job or just normal?'.

I did want to draw a more medieval whale but I thought it wouldn't be recognisable.

Looks great. I love the modification. I've not looked back to see the original but I assume it's the neck. He certainly looks bigger with the addition.

Love the fluff. I can totally see him stamping onto the top deck to repel some unprepared, scrawny and suddenly terrified pirates.

I can imagine whales being revered by the High Elves and I'm sure whale oil is a commodity in the Empire.

This is Kali Dakkar, Captain of the Dread Nautilus. I've always wanted to do a rogue trader, an excuse for a flamboyant and extremely over-the-top individual with design elements and ideas taken from more diverse sources than a more austere Inquisitor. She is probably the most fiddly conversion I've ever attempted and only possible due to getting a dremel recently (cool stuff). The model is obviously rather inspired by Julian Bayliss' fantastic Dreadfleet collection while the character is mainly inspired by Alan Moore, Jules Verne and also somewhat by the character Teng Namatijra in Dan Abnett's (boring) Legion novel who has a pet big cat.

And her pet lynx, Maya
