People who played things like Dungeons and Dragons or Vampire while in
middle or high school (approx. Ages 11-18).

What kinds of extracurricular activity did you join?

Thanks.

2 years of football

2 years of cross country

4 years indoor track

4 years track

Key club

ski club

intramurals

drama

etc

Weekends were mostly spent around large bonfires in gravel pits out in the middle of the woods, where I would be in a race to see if I could hook up before getting too drunk to function. Drunkenness usualy won.

This was >20 years ago, but back then as well as playing D&D most lunchtimes I played lock forward in rugby for the school, played violin in the school orchestra and sang bass in the school choir. I also weight trained twice a week.

3 years of swim team, 2 years of track & field (to stay in shape for swimming after the season ended), one year of drama club- that was the most fun, drama chicks were much more interesting than cheerleaders. Weekends were spent trying to find someone to drive me to various SCA events.

Also awhile ago for me, from middle to high school was little league baseball, 4 years of baseball in high school, one year of football. But I still spent all my other waking moments during that time (when not practicing, playing in sports, or studying) playing games.

Football, Basketball, Track, Drama Club (because there were some hot Senior chicks in it).

Keep in mind that this is 1982 - 1986. I didn't have all the other distractions that there are today. Otherwise, I would have dumped all that jock stuff (but kept the Drama Club for the hot Senior chicks) and been in the Computer club or something like that.

Wrestling team as well (weird coincidence?). Ultimate frisbee. High school plays. Literary magazine.

I didn't start wargaming or D&D until I was already in high school, so I guess I'll start there:

4 years of football

4 years of choir

1 musical

And by that point, I was 18, so that about does it.

It's a cautionary tale thing, a "don't do this or you will end up like these nerds" thing. Malfred enjoys "Highlighting Menoth" a little too much, so his lesson planning suffers.

Media Arts club, Yearbook, Drama club, Junior Government, Debate team, and a couple days in Wrestling.

PS: I got in a fight with the team captain

PPS: I won (he had a broken arm in two places)

Looking for data that says that high school dungeons and dragons gamers are highly anti-social,
uninvolved nerds. But it looks like you guys are nerds about a lot of things

You guys are all nerds. I for one never played D&D. I did watch the cartoons when i was 10. How can you be in the football team and the choir? Oh I know the choir was the school choir (NERDY) the football was not the school football team it was the after school type you played in your mates backyard.  It was played by people who wished they were on the school team. Well if you spent less time being Nerdy and more time trying for the school team (not the choir) you guys mights have made it. Well some of you anyway. Oh and dont bother with the lame excuses like Drama had the better girls and so did the choir. Oh please. Thats just lame. Just admit you guys did drama and the choir cos there was no bullies/jocks (as you guys call them) there so you had a few periods of peace. lol

Oh god like I can recall that far back. Anything earlier then 2 Dec 2006 is hazy.

Football 1 year - stopped when the coaches taught us how to cheat - ethical problem with that
Wrestling 1 year
Soccer 1 year - I had been playing since I was a wee lad and was burnt out
Swimming 3 years (diving 1 of them)
Track and Field 1 year - Pole Vaut ftw
Band - Marching and Symphonic - Percussion 3 years (I quit my senior year, was sick of it)
Latin Club 1 year (had to)

In all fairness I didn't play very much at all. We tlked about it more then actually ever played. Come to think of it, we only played once or twice all through High School. I didn't get into gaming really, and mostly miniatures then until my first year of college.

1 year of Cross Country and 2 Years of Track. Woulda been 3 but I graduated a semester early to join the military.

Key Club for 3 years, and was a Lt. Governer during that time.

Held a steady job throughout all of High School.

Was very active in hunting and fishing.

I think a lot of this was mostly due to the fact that I wouldn't associate with the "gamers" in my school, mostly because I like to game with the "normal" folk. Sorry if that offends anyone, but I just can't bring myself to hang out with those who can't live outside of the game. But any ways, since I didn't hang out with any of them, I didn't game at all during highschool, outside of video games at least. I did start back up though once I got into the military.

Cheating?  What--did they teach you how to hold without getting caught?  Everyone on the O-Line holds.  The only trick is making sure that you hold them as far inside as possible, particularly if you're the exposed tackle.  Or perhaps they taught you as a D-Lineman to hold a tackle on an exchange in order to let another D-Lineman through?  Come on.  Getting away with what would literally be considered holding is reality.  That's just how the game is played.

So what was it?  Something really good, like gently nudging the ball forward when the refs aren't watching before the play on 3rd and short?  Do tell!
