Good call Carlos, I shall bear that in the forefront of my mind, you are too right.

Thraxis, thanks. Good call on martian scheme.

Also, good suggestion AoV. Means two color schemes for the current box of martians.

Guess a martian is next up.

Honestly with my samurai I was so worried about screwing up the lacing on my samurai I didn't touch them for ages. In the end I decided feth it if rather paint it badly than not at all and I can always strip first models after finishing the last ones if they look that bad.

That said I am trying to paint my less complex models before the more complex ones so I can use the earlier models as a learning experience.

Yep you make a good point And doing simpler models first is a solid approach as well.

Been playing with the ruins sprues to increase the size of some of my smaller buildings:

Although my internet is being screwy so I'm not positive that's what I just linked

Here's a finished martian grunt since you guys decided that's what I should do next. Actually stuck pretty close to the studio scheme with this one, figure I can try different colors out on another batch.

Looks like I might have to grab a ruin set at some point, it could make buildings go a lot further at ground level so I can save full rules for expanding upwards.

I'm not much of a fan of MA stylistically, but I have to say the paintwork looks good!

Thanks, he's standard tabletop - basecoats till they're solid, minimal highlights where necessary, dip, seal. I probably wouldn't grab a box of them off the shelf in a vacuum, but the game sounded fun and chaotic so I was hooked

Yeah the ruins are great. You can also use them to imply height as well, build corners that all end in ruins to suggest a much taller structure.

Got a big building painted today too I'll take some shots after awhile. It needs railings, or portions of a second and or third level, but I'm not there yet.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

I'd like to add at least portions of an upper floor or two.

The rubble piles are nice for scatter terrain and blocking LoS over long straight portions of buildings, though they don't really well resemble the materials the buildings are made of.

Add a couple of outlying structures and some catwalks here and there, and you've got a board, it's a nice centerpiece/mission objective/whatever.

What is that sinister shape stalking in the shadows? I don't know... but I'm scared...

Until then just argue you are going for a film noir vibe with the key characters in colour so they stand out

That Martian has come out excellently Grim. I am quite impressed with the detail on the model, especially the areas where some had concerns such as the brain.

This blog makes me want ruins as well, Mantic should pay you commission.

Just a heads up Grim, use PVA glue on your Martian helmets when you come to putting them on. That way you avoid the plastic domes looking all cloudy.

Yeah, same thing goes for the bases I use. Except it doesn't, I've been supergluing the last 10 or so minis down to no ill effect. I'll probably get some clear PVA for the domes (when I get the rest of my stuff), but I'm definitely gonna try one with superglue out of sheer stubbornosity!

Been working on something, will wait for actual finished things to photograph before doing pictures this time.

Liking the addition of the damaged parts. Martians are well done! (Liked that silly movie!)

Fine fine, since you asked

I was trying to hide my shame for having started something entirely new but here you are:

A Shasvastii Seed-Soldier, a basic line infantry for Combined Army. I used CA in my learn to play/demo infinity event at GenCon and fell in love with a model called the Gwailos. Turns out I like his entire faction, the Shasvastii. Turns out miniature market ships things to me in like a day and I was weak. Ordered 3 dudes from Amazon burning up my bonus points, then broke down and ordered the Shasvastii Expeditionary forces starter since I was "good" with spending at gencon, and I wanted to try out some fluorescent paints. Lord help me.

Started him this morning before work, finished this afternoon while baby was napping. He's a bit grainy under super zoom, I guess I need to switch back to basic white krylon, the primer variant is apparently rougher. The camera picks it up but he looks rather smooth to me.

I'll hopefully be powering through finishing the other 8 models then working back into something else. I'd like to blow through them all since I'm content with this scheme and I'll feel better having bought them if I get them finished Should be some time yet before DZ wave 2 finally shows up as well.

Still got a samurai diorama, not sure I'm gonna be able to follow through with the LoER road project, I will have to hang my head in disgrace and stop entering if I don't finish this one.

I like that a lot. Very alien dispite the humanoid shape.

Its been forever since I've used green, and I really wanted to work with the pink and purple colors. He isn't miles away from the studio scheme, but he's definitely not the same. Got the idea to use the pink from there though.

After the dip, I'm positive I like the scheme. Several of his kin will need some different colors, but the baseline is established.

I think the colour scheme is great mate. Going to have to check out the studio version.

These guys look sweet. Your colour scheme is similar but easily identified as different.

Got to admit what I want to see the most is the Samurai diorama.

That looks pretty cool, suitably alien. I think at some point I may have to grab an Infinity mini or two just to paint.

Tell me about it! And they're addictive, sooo pretty, I don't even care if I get to use them in game if I get to paint them. Never felt that way about space marines, those were all bought to be used someday, infinity models can just be on a shelf if it comes down to it (not that I wouldn't love to play...).

Still trying to think up a good way to represent the TO camo for the malignos, I think I'll start the Asuang next, he's a creepy bastard for sure. Basically has a special ability that lets him eat downed opponents to gain wounds, and he also has a adhesive launcher (think working riot control glue foam gun thing), so.... yeah scary camouflaged alien monster running around rooting enemies to the spot then closing and eating them. Try not to be terrified at *that* prospect

Sounds pretty scary, and completely weird! I must look into the Infinity fluff at some point. I'm not such a fan of parts of the aesthetic, but the setting might be worth delving into.

They are damn expensive models, but if I were just buying one or two for display I think I could stomach it.

Ehh you only need about half a dozen for games. Ten for full sized. But then you'll want variety... then you'll want that other faction... its addicting!
