I do though have faith in Chris, if it turns out anything like Scars then I will be a happy bunny. I'll just have to wait for it to be in an anthology or read it in the shop when it finally gets there.
Alpha Legion sucked some major arse in "Scars" too. Apparently White Scars are more secretive than Alpha Legion.
I was more saying from a quality perspective, Scars is one of the better heresy books imo.
Scars is excellent. And the AL weren't too bad in it?

Ok so today I left the farm, harvests over and I needed a couple of hours to soak in the city to recharge the batteries with coffee shops and retail therapy! As alway I called into our local GW to see what's happening and I have come away with something I haven't bought in quite a while, a book a stand alone book. Not part of the heresy or realm gate wars or space marine battles. And do you know I feel jolly excited at the prospect of reading it. I have fought through the first batch of the realm gate novels trying so hard to enjoy them and I might keep trying for at least a little while longer and I feel worn with the heresy saga which I have mostly enjoyed and am way too deeply invested to give up now but I do feel war worn by the sheer volume of reading hours poured into the series. It feels like the marvel infinity gauntlet cross over from the early 90's it wore me out too.
But tonight I feel content with Mr Annadales sons of Titan sitting beside my armchair. I can read it without fear that it will be rubbish it's a book one book. If it's rubbish, which I really hope it's not, I don't loose. To top it off it's about the inquisition and their favourite band of slayers. Not just marines or marines with hammers and not bolters in a world were everything starts with Sigmar. It's a good night......

They must be trying to quietly get rid of some limited editions that haven't sold. The shrink wrapped books are supposed to be web exclusives. They had to do the same with gates of azyr special edition, but it was sold through GW stores. It doesn't look good, I suppose when a limited edition of only 1, 2 or 3 thousand sits on the site for ever. The war storm one had 'selling fast' for months and then suddenly changed to 400 left, now 250 left. There were only 1000 of them to start! So I can understand getting rid of a sneaky few hundred or so to some independent bookstores.

Ha, you know you're fethed when Khârn is portrayed as an interesting and reasonable character, but your own legion of choice is turned into something idiotically Hannah-Barbera like.

Or they let them get away.
Largely depends if the AL faction was following Alpharius or Omegon
The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

No,
Spoiler:
WS battleships run past AL "blockade" fleet, destroying a reasonable number of AL vessels, because they were secretly (from anyone in the Imperium) modified with more powerful than standard engines. AL fleet, that was sitting and waiting there to be face slapped like that was very hard to read about.

They got taken by surprise, I'm still not seeing the big deal. Even the AL can't know everything, and seeing how little anyone sees the White Scars I don't find it that hard to believe there's things about them people don't know. The AL weren't expecting them to be able to pull off manoeuvres like that because they didn't know about how the WS ships had been modified. It's really not that bad. The AL fleet was 'sitting waiting to be face slapped' was purely to keep them in one place for a while.

...The AL weren't expecting them to be able to pull off manoeuvres like that because they didn't know about how the WS ships had been modified.
And this is a problem. For a Legion that prizes itself on knowing everything about his adversaries that is a complete failure.
BL authors like to show "sneaky-sneaky" AL but when it comes to walk the walk, AL get it's tail slammed again and again, which is a complete BS. There is no a single HH series book where AL gets a complete and clear victory over anyone. AL is not about "an individual is not important" but rather "teamwork above all", that's how their recruits pass the initiation test. Therefore, seeing an unprepared, not knowing, not planning and not working like a well-oiled clock mechanism force elements of the AL is frustratingly disappointing.

But the Scars are the outriders. They're a Legion that are often forgotten about or ignored. I think if any of the Legions are able to escape the attention of the Alpha Legion then it could be the Scars. But yes, Yaraton, you do have a point. They also possibly knew about it but just not how effective they were.
Spoiler:
Fulgrim mentions to the Primarchs at Ullanor that he knows that Jaghatai does something to his ships, just what that is he doesn't know.
I think Reds8n has the truth of it though.
Spoiler:
The Alpha Legion wanted the Scars to hear the message from Dorn and they wanted the Scars to escape
In Scars we didn't really have a good lot from the Alpha Legion perspective. It was more from other Legions point of view. Maybe in Russ Last Stand we will have the Alphas angle on what happens in Scars and why things went the way they did.

Thanks. Was the Asurmen book one of the limited editions on the website earlier? If so, I hope the leftovers make them less inclined to keep going down that route.

They are still on the web site as a first edition. States down to the last few copies......... That must be because the rest are all in bookshops! I actually like the limited editions. Know it's not popular and I can see people's point in hating them. They always sell out eventually the asurmen novel though has been on for ages though. Seems to be stuck.

Bought mine from Waterstones (bookstore) in that same format.
The Wolf King novel is up, in both dead tree and e-format.
E-version is £19.99 and does not include the additional colour content from the limited edition.

I dl'd the e-book version of Wolf King. It was a fun, quick read.
Spoiler:
Its about 1/3rd Russ perspective, 1/3 Bjorn the one handed (not Fell yet), who are both doing some soul searching about their immediate future and how the legion will go forth after such tough losses. The rest is from the perspective of an infiltrator aboard the SW flagship, a Senior Wolf Lord, and overviews of the Alpha Legion fleet movements. There is nothing from the AL perspective, but they loom large in every page, due to the desperate situation the SW's are in and how they have an answer for all of the SW's strategies. It reminded me of the early episodes of Battlestar Galactica ( the newer series) where the Cylon fleet is doggedly pursuing the Human fleet.
I don't want to spoil too much for those planning to read it, but I had a few theories on who would rescue the SW's, and I was partially right! I really wasn't expecting who it would be. Its no one we've read about before I think, but it made sense to me.

I don't see myself getting a hardback novella so if you get a chance can you either post the spoilers on who did what either in a spoiler tag or PM me? I'd appreciate it.
edit: Nevermind. Found this spoilerrific thread. BrookM, avert your eyes from the link!
