Great bat rep. Looks like fun, been years since I had a game. MW looking awesome.

Had a really fun game tonight too. Similar army of mine vs. some Eldar. They shot the living heck out of me but in the end the MW snuck out a victory!

Just in case you guys think I'll never get back to painting. I just arranged to buy a bio-titan (second-hand but unbuilt) along with the IA book to go with it from one of the guys at the club (Wargamer Shawn from the video actually). Got a great deal on it. Going to make a fantastic present for Thing 2 on his birthday this fall.

It's been fun re-connecting with my Mantis Warriors after spending so much time playing Necrons in prep. for Adepticon. I've actually had decent success with them in friendly games, which is more than I can ask for really when just starting to learn a new rule set. Nice thing is that once the Centurions are finished... I don't really have anything on my "must be painted" list in order for them to be viable. I guess I'd like to paint a squad of regular bikes (been proxying my scout bikes as regulars lately) but I'm not sure if there's a bike design out there that fits the feel of the chapter (talking modern MW now... not Badab War era). I haven't tried to figure out how to use the MW chapter tactics yet... I'd like a couple of more games under my belt before I add in a new strategic element.

The league games down in Madison have really turned in to something fun. Each week, someone invents a new scenario that everyone tries for that night. Yesterday we practiced a scenario for a tournament on Saturday. It was one of those where you can pick your options on how you earn victory points (non-linear I think they call it). Made the game very interesting and was the thing responsible for my winning the game.

Good that your having fun games. Nice to have so much painted you can field a good looking army with little or no effort.

If you can you should post the scenario so we all can enjoy.

Which one of the Nid Titans? The Hierophant, or one of the Hierodrules?

I think it's the Heriophaunt.

Yeah... it's been a long time coming but it is nice to have a pretty complete force.

I've decided I really like 7th. It's slow as molasses but it's a pretty fun game.

Weird, I recently got a used big bug as well. Finished getting it together last week. Ended up being tons of extra work, there was some terrible casting issues, but I saved almost $120 from new. Having a base made for him now.

This one is in pretty decent shape, but then I haven't tried to put it together yet. Should be a fun project!

Recent games have me thinking 40k again.

Wow, nice to see the Mantis Warriors again, and glad that you are having fun with 7th.Have to admit GW must be doing something right these days as I feel my enthusiasm for the game growing again

Are the scenarios based around forging a narrative or just fun one-offs?

I hope the Hierophant is a success too. I bet thing 2 will freak when he sees it. As long as he doesnt carry it around like Blofeld and call it his pet squig

When you say modern bikes, ar you meaning jetbikes like the scouts or regular bikes.

I always thought the scout bikes looked way cooler than the regular bikes, with the open front guard and the differently styled handle bar cover (fairing?) plus less exhaust stacks and proper aerials... Mybe take the fairing(?) off the fron to give it an even more dirtbike like appearance and model o some half dome headlights, but not too many as they are modern marines... not Mods!!

No Internet at the house at the moment so I'll have to keep it short. Problem with getting into a bug off with WM is that I'd really be competing with Ramos... no chance there.

The old jet bikes are much too small to hold marines (which is why I converted mine to hold scouts). A more marine-sized jet bike would be fine... but as the post-crusade chapter has been resupplied and isn't under the same restrictions as the crusade version, some kind of normal bike would work too.

WM360 found it, I think its relatively easy to make, I've seen about 3 other people make some and they commented it was quite easy.

Wonderful to "see" you again with that batrep. Always nice when the MW get some action!
Looking forward to more work, especially if you go the Knightly way of building up some jetbikes.

By the by, any news regarding a MW paint event? My desk could do to see a bit of green!

That's very cool knightley. A bit complicated for the likes of me... but I'll keep that as an option.

@Ramos: Things will settle down a bit for me in a couple of days. I'll work out the details then.

Annoucing the Second Annual Mantis Maker Competition!

Date: July 27th - Aug 27th
Title: Alia jacta est! ("the die is cast"... or alternatively... "cast the die")
Theme: The contest is to make a Mantis Warrior in a duel with another figure (a marine). I will have the opponent built (probably not yet painted) by the time the competiton begins so you know what you're figure needs to match with. The "display base" will be a large oval (Knight or flyer) type base. Your figure must be infantry of some sort (no vehicles) and fit on a 40mm base (though it can be any type of infantry & does not need to be confined within the 40mm base... but I want it based on 40mm so I can make the overall display correctly). On the 27th, I'll post pictures of my part of the display, as well as measurements so you know what the physical size limitations for your figure.

This is not a painting competition. Best painted won't necessarily win... the winner will be the person who has the most dynamic, exciting and jaw-droppingly creative Mantis Warrior opponent for whatever scum-bag marine that needs killin' that I create. It must also match well with my component... so biggest might not be the best (I'll leave that to you). Painting will be a factor of course, but not the deciding one.

Da Rulz...
1. Entries must be unique to this competition.
2. You must post a pic of your build and your final entry here on this blog. WIP shots are welcome here... but not necessary.
3. Each entry must be the work of one person only.
4. Deadline is 12AM GMT on Aug. 27th... whenever GMT is... I have no idea, it just sounds good.
5. You are strongly encouraged to help each other out. Visit each others plogs, etc. We are a big, global family of nerds... let's support each other!
Spoiler:
(cause... you know... we sure as hell ain't gettin' laid on a regular basis)

6. Other rules as I think of them. I'll have the final set by the 27th.

Da Kategoreez - these don't "stack", one per person

"I'm here to chew bubblegum and kick a$$, and I'm all out of bublegum!" (Grand Prize):
"It is better to look good than to feel good, and I look mahvelous!" (best painted)
"To go where no man has gone before." (most original idea).
"A good stretch of the legs." (person who worked the farthest beyond their capabilities)
"Ill be back." (person with the most improved entry from last year to this one)

Da Prizez
Each of the winners will get something... easily transferable. Unlike last year where I spent 10x the value of each prize in shipping because the European contestants kicked the American's butts all over the gaming table. I'm thinking something like credit with one of the bits makers... like Zinge perhaps, or maybe another company in the US for any winners (just in case any of you p-knockers manage to step up your game this year). Maybe I can get a bit of a break from someone... we'll see. The grand prize winner will also get the display base including my figure... all painted, based and ready to show off their fine work. Neat thing is I'll be painting my end of the diorama at the same time you'll be working on yours. (That way I can mess with everyone's head while the comp is going on.) If you (personally) or your company would like to sponsor a prize, just PM me. I don't expect anyone to do it, but you never know unless you ask. I'm thinking each of the prizes will be about $25 in value (US) if I'm paying. If you're paying, the sky is the limit but I'd like to keep it at or above $25 (that's what... about 2 pounds now??). *sigh*

I am looking for a small cadre of judges. I would prefer folks who have a good eye for design and technique, but you don't have to be an experienced judge. I'd also prefer folks would be willing to help people with constructive feedback after the competition is over. I will however, keep your identities private during the competition SO BY THUNDER DON'T POST YOUR DESIRE TO BE A JUDGE ON THIS BLOG! PM me please.

Lastly... as you know I haven't been very active on dakka for quite a while (just taking a break, enjoying my boat and my family) so I suspect only the hard-core followers are still keeping up with this blog. I would very much appreicate it if you would help generate some buzz for the competition by cross-posting this announcement on your own blogs.

Comps are so much more fun when there's a good variety of people involved and the ideas that came out of this competition last year were really inspiring. I'd love to see some new and/or young hobbyists involved. That's why the "good stretch of the legs" category is there. You don't have to be fantastic... just show that you really put yourself to the test, tried some new techniques and experimented. Competitons are a good excuse to learn and practice new skills, expand your horizons and just take chances you might not normally take.

That's it for now. Please spread the word. You don't have to commit now... but a few bumps of this post never hurt!

The IA book, Alphion or something project, he listed is outdated. Good story though. The nid rules have all been updated with the newest IA Apocalypse and GW Apocalypse books. The Hierophant can be found in the GW Apocalypse book.

Also the weight of the model isn't kind to his spindly legs...or should I say the talons. Mine has an Iron rod in the center to support the model.
