Honestly, they said it's been planned out as an arc over 12 books. At least that means it has an end goal in sight. I think the last HH book I read was Unremembered Empire, a couple years back and I don't think I've really missed anything in the interim.
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings. Look on My works, Ye Mighty, and despair.

Just had a quick peek on Amazon and it's listing I Am Slaughter as a hardback for £12.99, with a release date of 17th December. Oh, and it's 336 pages long.
"Bloody typical, they've gone back to metric without telling us."

Earlier today, we announced 'The Beast Arises', a brand new Black Library event series. It launches soon, and the first book in the series is written by bestselling author and Black Library legend Dan Abnett. We sat down with Dan to find out more...
BL: We’re sure thousands of Black Library fans out there will be delighted to see you at the helm of the first book in a brand new series. What can you tell us about ‘The Beast Arises’?
DA: It’s a very cool concept – a massive, epic story that will end up being much bigger than your average novel, but serialised over 12 months and written as a team, as per the Horus Heresy novels, passing the baton from one writer to the next, working off a common plan. It’s really huge and really epic, and showcases a massive event in the post-Heresy Imperium. We’re talking the Imperial Fists as Terra’s last line of defence… and we’re talking orks.
BL: The series starts with your novel ‘I Am Slaughter’. What (or who) does the title of the book refer to?
DA: Well, that would be spoiling things, but the reference will be revealed as twofold – it’s about one of the main characters, and also about the sheer overwhelming fury of the threat. This is a savage story.
BL: How have you approached the setting differently from a Horus Heresy or Warhammer 40,000 story?
DA: Writing Warhammer 40,000 is great – we’re always in that ‘one minute to midnight’ phase of cosmic doom and stagnation, the dark background of all 41st millennium stories. The cool, contrasting feature about the Horus Heresy is that we’re writing about a specific period of Imperial history, so there is a real sense of place and time, of progression, or major events changing the phase of the Imperium.
‘The Beast Arises’ isn’t a Heresy story; it’s much more firmly set in the era and age we think of as Warhammer 40,000, but it’s not quite that either. This is early in post-Heresy history, in the early stages of the Imperium, so the trappings are Warhammer 40,000, but the sense of a major historical event is very Heresy.
This isn’t just a major, epic story – it’s a massive piece of lore, an event that reshaped the Imperium in shocking ways.
BL: What was it like starting a series, knowing other authors would continue the tale? Was there much collaboration, or did you stick to the boundaries of your own novel?
DA: There was a lot of collaboration. I think that’s why we did it, really. The collaborative process that developed throughout the Horus Heresy was not only fun but very productive – getting lots of creative minds looking at a big event and working out ways to tell it and structure it. We employed the same techniques with this, brainstorming the elements (and surprises!) of the story around the table. Sharing it out was simply a matter of dividing the workload. This is how a big event should work.
BL: How did you find the Imperial Fists as protagonists? They seem potentially quite different from the very human characters in a lot of your Warhammer 40,000 fiction.
DA: They’re great. I’ve come to love them through the Heresy, and this is a great moment to showcase them after the civil war. I’m still afraid of Space Marines, but I’m not afraid of writing them.
BL: So what can we expect from the rest of the series?
DA: Massive action. Carnage. Tremendous, high level political intrigue amongst the High Lords of Terra. And some truly staggering twists.
BL: In one sentence, why should a Black Library fan be excited about this series?
DA: Orks, Imperial Fists, Terra in peril, blockbuster action, and universe-changing revelations… what more could you want?
BL: Thanks Dan. That's certainly got us excited.
To be among the first to find out more, you can set a reminder, and we'll let you know as soon as 'I Am Slaughter' is available. And If you’re reading this post from an iPhone or iPad, you can pre-order the first five books in the series from iBooks today.

I think that one is Damnation Crusade, has the same artwork. But the text has been edited ... pony ... lol ...
So the quality in The Beast Arises will start off amazing as the Heresy did, be good for a few books, then go up and down like a bungee jumper. I'll probably start to read it, but it will be one i'll get in digital.
Got this in my email

The comics done by BOOM! Studios weren't exactly amazing or worthwhile either, just more brightly coloured and done by people who don't know a flipping feth about 40k sometimes.

Looked forward to the series I like that they are continuing with the idea of publishing 'history books'. Not keen on the covers though..... A bit toy like. If your going to try to produce a fake history for a fantasy realm at least try and make it look like it was produced in a fantasy realm.
Finished sons of Titan last night... Well done Mr annadale! The main story is a top read.

Horus Heresy book XXXIII: First Look14/10/15
What’s next for the Horus Heresy? You lot ask us that all the time, and it’s so rare that we can tell you (the shadowy Heresy loremasters keep their secrets well…). But we have something to show you today… We’ve managed to gather scraps of a new piece of art by Neil Roberts, which will adorn the cover of book XXXIII in the Horus Heresy series. We’ve managed to discern three details…
1 – An Imperial Fist. Literally. That’s a big fist in the yellow of Dorn’s sons. So it looks like there’s going to be some VII Legion action…
2 – Death from above. Lots of it. But what Legion do they belong to? We’re squinting to see, but we can’t quite make it out.
3 – Definitely Imperial Fists… and Ultramarines? Fighting side by side, it seems. Just what is going on here? We don’t know yet, but sign up for a reminder and you'll be amongst the first to know when new details are revealed, and once the new novel goes on sale.

so guessing this will deal with Polux and Co, in the Ruinstorm perhaps ?
I haven't read it yet but one gathers there's a scene in Deathfire where they fly through
Spoiler:
A massive ruined ship/ship battle, which contains lots of dead Astartes.
.. Dying of the Light is an intriguing title too ....
wonder if this deals with the beacon on Sothe perhaps ?

Well gak, I was hoping for it to be a bit larger, but at least it's nowhere near as small as their reprints of Daemonifugue and Darkblade, which were small format and gak quality.
Guess I'll wait for a review to pop up before I decide whether or not to get it.

The Pharos, Guy Haley penned book is a full novel.
Which is very nice indeed IMO, he's very good.
Sunday's pics :
Garro book is a full novel apparently -- presumably follows on from Shield of Lies.
Orks on the collection ... one assumes we'll see a print version of the Wolf of Ash and Fire , in which we saw the Emperor and Horus take on some greenskins prior to the Heresy

I don't think so , but bear in mind we're going off of 2nd/3rd/4th etc hand sources.
People there are saying its a novel.
Reckon for those you'll have to stick with the scripts books or maybe some future release.

Hmm interesting and somewhat surprising given I'd not heard any rumours about any of these.
These are the shorts that have yet to be released other than as e-books:
Spoiler:
Army of One (2012) by Rob Sanders
Distant Echoes of Old Night (2012) by Rob Sanders
Lost Sons (2012) by James Swallow
The Gates of Terra (2012) by Nick Kyme
Lunda Mendax (2013) by Graham McNeil
The Wolf of Ash and Fire (2014) by Graham McNeill
Child of Night (2014) by John French
Sins of the Father (2014) bt Andy Smillie
The Final Compliance of Sixty-Three Fourteen (2014) by Guy Haley
Vorax (2014) by Matthew Farrer
The Value of Fear (2014) by Gav Thorpe
Brotherhood of the Moon (2014) by Chris Wraight
Black Occulus (2015) by John French
Tallarn: Witness (2015) by John French
Ironfire (2015) by Rob Sanders
Artefacts (2015) Nick Kyme
They could all be bundled into War Without End or Eye of Terra in a similar fashion to Legacies of Betrayal which collected a load of e-books and audios.
"We are the Red Sorcerers of Prospero, damned in the eyes of our fellows, and this is to be how our story ends, in betrayal and bloodshed. No...you may find it nobler to suffer your fate, but I will take arms against it."

Ooo the least interesting chapter fighting the least interesting faction!
A new author for every book!
And it's a 'historical' series so double plus nothing will happen!
It's can't miss!
