Great job on the grenadiers. Too bad they were a pain to put in.

Thank you, guys!

I have news:

I like these, I'll get more of them! I know that the Grenadier-Centaur is not the Artillery-Traktor version, but I had to see how it looks.

And I like it! I'll have to get 3 more thudd guns and another 3 heavy mortars - and 8 Centaurs to carry them around.
(And another one for the grenadiers and one for the HQ and one for the Quartermaster with stuff he collected on the battlefield ...)

I'm not quite sure about the mud on them (I have to say, they both look really good when they were clean! Making them dirty was really hard for me this time!)
Crew is getting painted right now + I'm deflashing the Quartermaster & Retinue.

"Bring in the big guns!"

Really good work, the mud effects are looking great and the green you have going is perfect for DKoK.

yeah, neil, I'm not sure if this is the movie I had seen, but I based my whole Death Korps of Krieg on this setting. I'll try to add a bit more barbed wire, though, inspired by the movie Deathwatch]:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0KQYHJ6K_s

But then again, this might suit a Nurgle army much better.

I also think that I should make the minis even more dirty.

The army consists of 69 miniatures, 2 artillerie guns and two vehicles right now. 1204 points. When I'm finished with everything from my last order, it'll be 118 miniatures, 2 guns, two vehicles => 1593 points.

Here is an overview over what I got at the moment:

i hve seen that movie its pretty good , nice aunder the radar for most people, i also just watched the mutant chronicles , its not great but its pure 40k rip off, it even has a dkok vs chaotic mutants with renagade arm blades lol , i nearly ......somethinged myself when that happend ! , great army shots fella , i cant stop droolling at how beautiful dkok are when painted to this standard. , btw i eventually will create a mud board for the Praxian guard, so if you do make one , please share ....;-)

OK, some time ago I said that I wouldn't unpack a new item before everything else is finished, to avoid having gray or black masses on the table.
But one item of my last order was the running autocannon team and I had planned to convert it to make them shooting, so I looked out for kneeling guys in the other squads. My plan was to take two of the kneeling guys from the artillery crews, use them as autocannon gunners, use the running gunners as normal Korpsmen and use two of them as artillery crew. Since I also planned to switch some arms, I stopped painting the artillery crew and decided to finish this little conversion first.
I think, now that they stopped selling the sets / heavy weapon squads, they'll have trouble to get rid of the running heavy weapon teams ...

Here are the parts that are different in the sets (I started sawing on the right piece):

A little sawing, a little cutting, a little bending:

Upper side:

Now I have to find some arms that I can use:

1st: The fine modelling saw is worth every penny!
2nd: When I bent the part, a small piece broke off, but it won't be visible.
3rd: DK squads and sets usually have no spare parts when everything is built correctly. Thus, I have to switch arms between sets and miniatures.

edit:

I found a second arm:

I was hoping someone would do something like this, It seems odd how FW only sells 2 sets shooting while the other is jogging off to another spot on the field even though they come in a squad of 3 if you know what I mean.

I like the idea that the dkok are in other more unusual positions , i think it adds variety to the crew, but i guess its a bit annoying to use while playing a battle, more of a scenic idea. will be interesting to see , how you convert them , seeing as resin is a bugger!
Funnily enough i have tried to copy some of the dkok positions with the perry napoleonics , the lone heavy stubber guy and that autocannon set.

You can see the conversion already in the pics above.

So, I finally finished the artillery crews and gave the engineers some skull decals on their shoulder pads:

Wow. I'm pleased to see you're posting again, I would really recommend this blog to anyone; that's a really great and characterful looking army you have there.

I do fear you may have gone a bit OTT with the mud on the vehicle, but when you look closer you can see it's largely (and understandably) just the tracks.

Seriously great work man, I look forward to some more!

Death Korps Kick ASS!
Especially muddy ones. Man, these are some of the best minis I've seen! You paint to a pretty good standard bro. Kinda like Gitsplitta said once:"My minis aren't the best individually, but as an army they shine."
This is a great blog, and You deserve a cookie. Unfortunately, I ate my last one, so have some Cheese!

Again: Thanks a lot, guys.

Dave, I always fear that I'm going OTT with the mud and lately I had a little trouble hitting the right mix, so it looks rather dry.

Haha, I think I should consider this a compliment, even though thinking about it is a little ... weird.
Thx

thx for the cookie - err, cheese, damn ...

I'm planing on something big in that direction. Don't know if I'll be able to do this until summer, but I'll try. And I can promise that if I can do everything as planned, you'll be amazed!

As you can see here, I made one base with ammunition. My thought was, to use this as a proxy for a 4th crew member until I have more miniatures to do the job.

So the other gun would need an ammunition base proxy, too, right?

For the sake of organization, I'll post the following updates in two seperate posts below:

Sooo ... the first team of the autocannon squad. As I said a few posts back, I built this one from the running team so I combined parts from different other korpsmen. Some parts were really annoying to fit and I know the 2nd gunner looks very relaxed for sitting in the middle of a battle zone, but I'm happy with the result.

When I finished painting them, I decided to put a little barbed wire onto the base because it looked rather naked. Now, you don't really see this, but there's over 1ft of barbed wire on that base. After building it, I realized that the one post would obstruct the gun, so I decided to bend it a little ...

And now, the Heavy Bolter Team. This will support the HQ until I get two more of them, to build a squad. I'm still undecided which HW team the HQ could use best. This first choice was made because of optical reasons ...

I love the Heavy Bolter team, it looks so cool! Again, I changed one of the miniatures, the one lying one, with one from the firing squad and he looks rather relaxed, too. Mainly because I want to convert the lying guy to hold a gun (sniper?).

This miniature really was a pain in the a$$. I painted them before I glued them together, so I could reach all parts easily. But glueing them together really sucked! I would have to hold the gun, the gunner and put the arm between both - the gun was fixed but I couldn't fix the gunner ...
After two attempts there was glue everywhere, including my table and my fingers. I stopped for an hour to relax and everything turned out fine eventually.

Again, these guys got some barbed wire on their base. I hope you like it. I thought I'd start to press a little harder to keep the mud and barbed wire theme going.

Awesome job mate! Nice and dirty. The green works great, even though I think it could use another color to add some contrast, but that's just what we are used from GW, strong contrasts. On the other hand that plain scheme makes them look a little bit like historical troops, thats a good thing. Maybe if you added some troop markings you could bolster both aspects, contrast and credibility. I'd suggest cadian decals (if you know how to properly apply them).

Thanks a lot!

Baiyuan, I know what you mean. And I don't really like most of the "suggestions". I'm quite happy with the realistic and thus "historically correct" look. As for the decals, I'm looking into several from FW.

Vitruvian, it's because I'm awesome! Haha, no, idk.

Thanks, samwellfrm, that's what I'm aiming for!

Now with my last order I got one of the Death Riders. I ordered only one, because I wasn't sure about Riders in a 40k army, and I wanted to check one out before buying a whole bunch of them. But I fell in love with these, the models are amazing! I'm going to order 5 more - and one of them will be converted to be a commissar. The limited commissar on a horse costs about 60 GBP on eBay ... I think I can do quite a good job at converting one from one of the commissars and Death Rider No. 5 (the horse doesn't look that static).

Anyway, here are some WIP pics:

I'm about to say something rather controersial,

I think I have a man crush on you

Anywho, these are really looking nice mate, loving the green you got going on here. The only, and I mean the only thing I can pick out that is a flaw would be the emblems on the infantry helmets, I can't help but think they could do with a light boltgun coat.

About the rider. I know it's wip, so it might not be representative, but the green seems different to me, looked better on the other pics, deeper. Maybe you're not done shading yet. Also I think the color of the horse is a bit distracting, it's taking away the focus from the rest of the mini. I would go much darker there, but of course thats just me. At the moment the eyecatcher e.g. brightest point on the model is the shoulder of the horse, that should be the helmet or chest piece. Again, it's wip, just some comments on the status quo.
