Sheesh... crowdfunding the exact type of thing they've been releasing to the market via normal channels for years. Eh, I suppose it isn't any different than Mantic doing additional dreadball stuff. Now if they had decided to kickstart the inevitable 15mm version of Dust, that would be a different story.

Wow guys, I guess sarcasm really doesn't transmit well in a written form. I LOVE Dust and especially Dust Warfare. I was responding to em en oh pee's gloom and doom in his comment. sheesh.

Gloom and doom? No, I am just a practical kind of guy. I see creators who dislike Warfare and a company that seemed less than enthused to support it (and generally lost on the rules) as a lose-lose for Warfare people. With Battlefield out and the emphasis on Tactics, I just see it as only a matter of time before it becomes like GW's specialty games. They are releasing cards, tokens, and PDFs. Not really a lot of heft for a game, imo.

It's always funny that when a product gets put 2nd in line that people just jump the shark and scream "IT'S DEAD!!!"

Wrong. It means they're going to release Tactics first and then do Warfare. One first THEN the other. Not only-one-gets-made-and-too-bad-on-the-other.

But hey! It's all funsies to read into things.

I can't believe there isn't more talk about the Dust Kickstarter!

Considering the value proposition Dust models already tend to bring, I have some high expectations for the "deal" they would have to offer me, but that said, I am going to throw a mountain of money at this one.

Flaws, warts, and all... I LOVE the setting, love the models, and love both flavors of the game.

Meanwhile, with the visibility of "big" Kickstarters, this could really be a coming out party, in managed well, which introduced the game to a much bigger audience.

Only thing is, I hope they realize that with online shop mark-downs, unit boxes can readily be had for $12-15, and a KS needs to match/exceed that to lure people in.

for what it's worth I'm excited. the leaked pictures look mighty fine. I guess it all comes down to price

what I like from the pictures they posted so far is infantry level 1, at lease two new squads for each faction, and new infantry level 1 characters to go with them. I think the pics of the SSU Spetsnaz look amazing. the new walkers look good too. and the beasts of war pic from last year has some new low walls too

I wonder what each of those army boxes will go for? I'm guessing $120.00 each or more at retail but hopefully we can get them cheaper through a kickstarter

I guess we will all find out in a week what the details are. btw dose anyone know the exact time this KS will start?

No way those are $120 at retail. It would be a couple character units, a couple infantry units, a super-heavy, and a couple walkers (give or take).

At Miniature's Market prices that would be $100, and shipped for free... If the Kickstarter doesn't even match that, or have genuinely cool exclusives... eh... i'd be unimpressed.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Just checked for fun... the hypothetical set would run you $91 at Miniature's Market, in equivalent older models.

Far more complicated than that.It isn't that Warfare is second fiddle - it always was. It is the opinions on it bu the creator and the general handling of the game for the better part of a year by BF (general bumbling). Then Battlefield comes out and it really does seem to speak to Warfare's inevitable end. Just my opinion, but I followed the game closely since it released and have had my faith shaken too much to invest in Warfare further (hence me closing down Dust-War).

I like the Dust battle groups for the kickstarter. Not a fan of preassembled, pre primed models, and not sure I like the rules or the flyer models :-P I also know nothing about the background. I hope it does well.

I wanted to pick up models for the game, but the distinction (and
potential support) for the game(s) is giving me a headache.

What do most people who play Dust play? Tactics? Battlefield? Warfare?

We'll, battlefield isn't even released yet I don't think. Tactics was first so might be abit more popular but majority I know play warfare as well depending on mood. Tactics is abit easier to play and has tournaments but amongst war gamer friends I prefer warfare.

Battlefield is out, and plays great. Its a very light war-game, no doubt, but its super fast, and most importantly the rules are clean/work.

After a weekend with the new book/cards I can say Battlefield should become the main-system. Its a VERY nice "first proper table-top game" which is a niche I feel our hobby could stand to have.

I have played mostly Warfare up to this point, having only played Tactics once. And I really like Warfare, But I have to say after trying Battlefield this weekend, I'll be switching to that. With Battlefield I simply had a lot more fun with the games I played than I have had with the many games of Warfare.

Can you explain what's good about battlefield?

Battlefield felt in play quite smooth and streamlined. It felt like all of my units were actually good for something. My Zombies got into combat and won! It is deadlier so it plays faster, we played a two player 50 point game in about an hour, looking up rules and such. And then started a 6 player (90 pt each) game that lasted about 3 hours. The change in scale didn't effect play other than time. And the alternating unit activation kept all of the players involved in the game.

I like Battlefield because it's tactics without the board game effect. It's mostly just Tactics v2 on a tabletop.

It's fast and brutal, and you don't fall asleep during your opponent's turn. Feels very balanced and model has a purpose and can work. No restrictions other than points and "no duplicate heroes" when you build a list.

Battlefield appears to be free rules which is very cool. Have to try them out

Yep, after a few spins with Dust Tactics 2.0 and Battlefield I'm sold. There's very little reason for me to go back to playing Warfare now that Dust Tactics Battlefield is out.

Everything I disliked about Warfare is fixed in Battlefield:

  • Alternating Activation turn sequence (vs "UGO-IGO")

  • Same stats and special rules definitions (vs. completely different stats and special rules that were named the same but worked completely different)

  • Logical vehicle embark/disembark (vs. units disembarking farther than they can move via "within" shenanigans)

  • Better thought out cover saving system (vs. clunky and abuse-able "armor" saves that made some attacks impossible to withstand despite cover)

  • Rewarded for taking platoons but not required to (vs. restrictive mandatory force org charts producing cookie cutter lists)

  • Agreed on all counts.

I don't love Battlefront as a company, and the KS still left a sour taste in my mouth, but there is no question that Dust: Battlefield is an amazing product. With a little TLC, continued support, and maybe a push to get the game played in more stores, it could be a wonderful time to be a fan of this game.

Just sold revised core starter set today plus a box of the zombies for a crazy low price.

The models are great and you can actually get some super decent deals on-line for them. However, the way this rules release approach is being handled was enough to make it the next game I drop.
