The card stock I'm using is fairly rigid to begin with, but once I glue the end caps on they hold their shape against anything short of crushing pressure. The banding and hatches add to the structural integrity as well.

I suppose you could just slide another octagon shaped piece inside if you wanted additional support.

Oh...nice.. got about 30 of these guys too...very clever...but I recently scored big time and got me around twenty old plastic biker bodies and legs of old times...that'll keep me supplied till the end of the millennium for all the scratch build s o can come up with
Also, painted up the monowheel bikes look even more stunning!

That was a great haul on those biker bodies.

Since Orks grow larger the more physical trauma they endure, I like to imagine that the cult of speed boyz don't grow as big as the foot sloggin lads. It also doens't hurt that the Gorkamorka boyz match the physical size of the old ork vehicle drivers perfectly.

Put some paint on the original container

Got a Battle for Vedros box in the mail today.

Space Marines: Captain, 6 Tacticals (sgt, flamer, missle launcher, bolter x3), Dreadnaught, Terminator (powersword)
Orks: Warboss, Deff Kopta, 5 Nobs, Boyz x12

Sure they are the monopose, snap fit figures, from the Battle of Maccrage Starter set, but they are great sculpts, and all for $50.

Hard to argue with the dreadnought and terminator. Never been an OrK fan meself, but the snapfits are in line with the rest and simpler to assemble to boot. Sounds like a solid set.

They are super cheap by GW standards. 28 figures for $50 comes out to about $1.79 a figure.

The Ork Deffkopta sculpt is generally more desireable than it's $33 metal/failcast counterpart, and has been unavailabel since they stopped selling Battle for Macrage.

The Nobz are eagerly sought out as Conversion fodder, for Mega Nobz and Flash Gitz.

The boyz are fine as is

Love the Ork container, looks nicer than the official model.

I was thinking of making some myself, as I have a stack of corrugated card waiting to be used up, good call on that ork glyph on the side, will be stealing adapting that idea!

Nothing says "made by Orks" quite like a giant stylized Ork skull on the side.

Let me know how yours turn out.

The monowheels are looking good. Glad to see you found a use for Gorkamorka boyz. I modeled mine with biker bases, but I suppose it's not necessary. Are yours stable enough to stand up on their own?

Nice containers too.
Are the official containers really only 4 1/2" long by 2 1/4" tall? I drew up some plans to make my own, and I could have sworn they would be bigger. The pictures in WD made them look a lot closer to 6" long, based on the context clues available (guardsmen & marines standing next to them). Maybe some Photoshop trickery going on there.

After looking at the pics in White Dwarf, I too thought they were 6" long, but once I built one, they are indeed only 4 1/2 inches long.

2 out of the 3 monowheels stand on their own, but I always intended on putting them all on bike bases. Just haven't gotten around to it yet. Actually have two more wheels, without bikes sitting around, but I've gotten distracted by Tyranids and Megarmored Orks.

Just binge watched 6 seasons of Shamelss, the US version. Worked on models the whole time, but didn't take a whole lot of pictures.

For now here is a quick shot of my Kustom Ork Meganobz

One of those is a GW Fantasy Ork head with a completely scratch built body.

Not mine, but it is where I got the inspiration for the Meganobz
http://orksforge.blogspot.fr/2013/02/step-by-step-meganobz-tutorial.html

I would like to have 15-20 Meganobz by time I'm finished, but I need to keep an eye on the scale creep. Each one of my Meganobz is slightly bigger than the last. If they get any bigger I could use them as Kans.

he´s here on dakka too...luciusletroll...his blog is sadly gone...
lol...i know how the scale can enlargen with each build...best thing too avoid is to have one set of parts as a template...and never build from first to second to third instalment...it is crazy how a pencil can shift lines...really...a drawn line can make all the difference...better use a knife for marking...

I'm having fun building my Ork forces, but I can't seem to make an army list that is competitive with what I have.

The closest competitive thing I can come up with at the moment is a Bully Boyz formation with 45 lootas and 45 tankbustas and I just don't have the models for that. I'm shy 45 lootas, 25 tankbustas , 10 or so meganobz, and I'm not really certain it would perform well.

While hanging out with my gaming buddies last night, and commenting that my Ork Meganobz are getting to be the size of crisis suits I came up with the idea of running a Tau army entirely with converted Ork Models. All the benefits of a top tier codex, with all the kustom Ork model goodness you can ask for.

Crisis suits = Meganobz
Fire warriors = Grotz
Ethereals = Brain Boyz

I already have small, badly painted, Tau army I picked up on the cheap a year or so ago that I can raid for Tau parts.

Couldn't find my stash of 40mm bases, so I made some out of foamcore.

My supply drop of tyanids arrived, so I figured I should probably put some energy into assembling the swarm.

I can get a lot done when I focus. Built one more Hive Tyrant, not pictured, and I have 3 Tervigons to go. Been side tracked with toying with Space Marine and Tau ideas.
Still pouring through the new Tau Codex I got in the mail today. Really pondering a Tau list comprised of converted Ork models and I'm trying to line up a sweet deal on 10 Razorbacks, as well as salivating over the rumored Deathwatch Codex and box set coming out next week. Too much 40K.

What I predict/want to happen is that I will:
1.) buy the Deathwatch stuff and get exactly as far as I did with Grey Knights, which is nowhere
2.) start painting my Tyranids. Have enough of them assembled for a competitive force, well at least as competitive as Nids get these days.
3.) start converting a Tau Helper Army, made up of other races that have joined the Tau Empire, heavy on the Orks.
4.) finish my Ork Mek army. Seriously have 30+ converted Ork vehicles without drivers and gunners, I shelved after the 7th edition codex dropped. It won't be a competitive list, but it allow my friends a punching bag to beat on and get excited about 40K again.

Let them beat on the Orks while I get my Tyranids painted.
Let them squash some bugs while I work on the Tau.
Bring on the Pain with a completely different meta fielding Tau.
Finish my Imperial Knights

I just traded 3 unbuilt Imperial Knights for 3 mostly built and painted 40K armies (Chaos Marines, Eldar, and Necron)

None of the armies are a competitive builds, but the trades were vastly in my favor in models and points.

Painted models are a clean tabletop standard I wouldn't be embarassed to field as is, although I'll probably add a bit more detail work here and there.

WOW!, I would agree you got the best end of that deal.

Do I see 6 Hellbrutes? That is a lot of stuff.

What material are those trucks and diggers made of, looks to be maybe foamcore, or similar, can definitely see the potential.

And finally, bit late sorry, but THAT IS AN INSANE AMOUNT OF NIDS! That is going to be a very very impressive army.

Seriously, I had to talk him up to 3 Imperial Knights, he was going to give it all to me for 2, but I felt guilty at that point.

I haven't had time to sort through all of it, and I don't even have an Eldar or CSM codex anymore.

The trucks are foam core. Pretty sturdy, and only $1. I cut out the windows, since taking those pics. I think the scale is good. Just rying to decide if I need more trucks or buggies. I don't think I have any Skorchas....

My Nids and Necrons have slowly accumulated as I absorb other peoples warbands as they decide to play other armies. Ended up with way more troops than I'll probably use. Ironically, I don't have enough Termigants for my dream Bug List, but enough Genestealers to clog a space hulk. I've actually traded off all my Genestealers TWICE and they still come back.
