It looks like the plan is still to control online sales to prevent discounting but it will be available to FLGS.

Retail. My current plan is a little different then the usual. (Unless a distributor comes along and makes me an offer I can't refuse for business reasons!) We are going to continue to keep everything close to our chest and limit the number of places our inventory is available online. However, i DO want to support local stores that are interested in Kingdom Death, to the very extent of our ability. I feel there is tremendous value in organized events and bringing the community closer together. Online sales... they just can't do that. I envision us creating special decks that go out to stores, that may even have unique rewards for players bringing them down. Maybe even a monster of the month, or even of the week! It would be pretty easy for us to print a unique variant of a miniature that could be unique to an individual gaming store. Imagine, going on a road trip with some friends to go and battle the Silver Eyed Cat of (your local game store) or the Black Tailed Phoenix of (a faraway friends local game store). You could even bring along your hall of hero's fallen miniatures that met their grim end and have been painted up nice for their retirement!

Interesting,

but I fear once in the hands of an LGS (at appropriate wholesale price) said store owners may not be able to resist discounting

and intriguing as the special store decks might be the completionists heads are going to explode.....(Aaaargh the Bucket of Blood in Austin Texas USA has a special deck, but I live in Japan)

This seems to be new on the preorder page

Estimated shipping October 2015 directly following backer distribution
* EU Orders ship from our EU Warehouse.
* Australian Orders ship from our Australian Warehouse.
* Ships separately from other orders.

I'd say that EU and Australia distribution is limited to preorders by July 20th as they will be going in the same containers as backer orders after that taxes are your responsibility

Good catch, Dave. The best bet for anyone wanting to get a copy before the price balloons to full retail + shipping & import duties.

I wonder what, if anything, Adam will come up with as far as pricing KD:M more competitively. It's boutique to be sure, but a cheaper version of the game would certainly lower the barrier to entry.

---

Also, want to mention again that there is a KD store restock for those that missed it on the previous page.

Micro-exclusives. Wonderful

Yep. Ebay scrapers are going to have a field day with this one.

The problem is, some retailers will game the system and sell the "exclusives" for profit. I've seen it with other companies that do in-store events.

It appeared to me that the special monster/deck would be a one-of used by the store- not for sale.
Essentially to go to a store to fight the monster, not to buy it.

Missed out on the thief before- glad I had to get up earlier than usual today.

Why? From the sound of it the player reward might be a unique gear card or something.

Because I'm never going to be trekking to [MOD EDIT - Filter workaround detected! - Alpharius] Iowa to get said gear card.

Well I cant see a single local store around me playing this game on a table for just anyone to walk up and see Penis monsters. Maybe an hour drive up to Portland since they are throwing dildos over their power lines now. I really dont see this game being a thing outside of the website and a few specialty shops.

It must be your dreams, because I'm seeing a helmet.

And it's not shaped like a vulva, at least not like any of the ones that I have encountered.

I guess it just depends on what this hypothetical reward would be. If it's just a "reskinned" weapon for the event, or something like a certificate of accomplishment, I personally wouldn't be too bummed out about missing it.

Yeah, clearly a helmet, though it looks too small for her to actually fit her head in, as the neck alone way smaller than her head circumference . As Freud said, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

Flower Witch is up a again (5 available at this point). Edit: Aaaand she's gone.

As for the store exclusives, my interpretation is that it'll be an event (a monster or other encounter) rewarded by a unique-to-that-store variant model. So theoretically it's an incentive to host KD:M narrative scenarios thereby promoting / supporting the game. Dunno how it'll play out in practice.

This is a very good point. A lot of the monsters are a little, ahem, graphic. The back of the Sunstalker for example is extremely, well, glans-like shall we say. The gorm is, well, yes. So, I can see a lot of shops selling this but discouraging public plays of the game with the more graphic pieces. The kind of shops that would allow those to be played would, in all likelyhood, be the dwellings of various stinky troglodytes with the social niceties of an un-flushed toilet that people would run from before they've even caught sight of the miniatures! And those kind of shops would most likely game the micro-exclusives for the benefit of their friends...

Quite frankly, KD:M should follow the GW model for retail:

1. Primary fulfillment via KDM web

2. Lower than normal discount (to remove margin for discounting), unless the shop wants to sell below cost.

Also NO retail exclusives. Retail should get nothing special.

But...everyone complains about the GW model. I'm not sure I can handle that level of complaining. Its already a battle with sexism and price as it is.

I really don't get tooling for plastic, the option that really benefits most from mass production, and then intentionally limiting your market.

The complainers aren't customers, so they don't matter at all.

It's "boutique"! And if the last five years have taught me anything, it's that "boutique" is actually the French word for "gakky business".

It was mentioned in the last couple pages that the armor kits would be available separately, so it seems he will be taking advantage of HIPS.

I suppose that's true. If anything, the more people complain about KD the more attention it gets.

What problems have you had with Poots? Other than everything selling out so fast, I don't think there's much to complain about business wise.

I think he just means that HIPS minis at boutique prices are a bad way of doing business.

Speaking of which, how is WWX doing these days?

I guess it depends on how well the Pinups of Death set is selling. I imagine that would be a good indicator for Adam if HIPS is worth it for him.

Plus he may not want to be boutique forever.

I feel like the content will force him to be boutique, don't you?

I mean, I can't exactly stick The Penis Lion or Multi-Mammaried Wet Nurse on a store shelf at the LGS... That's part of the reason the Slaneesh models no longer look as awesome as they did in the past.
