Remember this guy? On a whim I entered him into a painting competition associated with the charity tournament I was in last week. It went away to the competition being held somewhere else in town, then came back in a few days with a nice gift card as a prize for winning best 40k miniature. Now, for all I know it might have been the ONLY 40k miniature... but what the heck. I'll take it! Used this and the deep discounts my FLGS is offering to get a box of centurions for half price. Second week in a row I've been able to do this so now I'm up to my neck in "marines inside marines".

Hush! Bad Brian... no biscuit!
I'm seriously considering giving it an insane detail touch-up & some OSL and entering it into the Crystal Brush at Adepticon... just for the thrill of seeing one of my minis in the glass case. I know what kind of minis WIN at Adetpicon (this ain't it)... but it might be fun to throw something out for public viewing.

Well, since it came up. I'll pontificate on the use of super-heavies & titans in regular 40k. GW rules are clearly broken, so I'm not going to comment on those. I think the D-weapon thing would need to be removed as a starter. Then, super-heavies fielded may not shoot at anything else until all other super-heavies have been destroyed. This could easily be worked into an existing game mechanic. Super-heavies are in a perpetual state of challenge with any other super-heavies on the battlefield as far as their primary weapons are concerned. The difference from a normal challenge is that the SH's secondary or tertiary (normal 40k weapons) can shoot at other targets if desired & that other things (not SHs) could shoot at the SHs as well. I think this is consistent with the fluff and would allow the addition of SHs into the game without completely dominating the battle around them (they will likely only have a turn or two to act after finally finishing off the other SH). With no D-weapon shenanigans... it should be managable. What if one person doesn't bring a SH?? Well, don't bring a knife to a gun fight. That being said... I think that escalation should be an optional choice for TOs... not the automatic default. So you can have some tournaments (or friendly games) without worrying about SHs... then some with... just for fun.

It looks like the situation is finally forcing TO's to conference call and start building missions that allow for a larger range of armies to participate.
However, I am very tired of the "If I bought it, I have the right to use it" argument.

In my next tournament they have ruled out Escalation and dataslates. Stronghold is in but limited to 200 points, I'll be getting mine for Xmas if the postman brings it in time.
I'm ok with the idea of Escalation if you dont allow d weapons / titans, I've yet to play against a Lord of War though so may change my mind. I'd be using FW ones from their update if I did.
I'm not a power gamer though so wouldn't bring anything OTT unless it looked nice and didn't cost a fortune lol.

There-in lies the problem... a lot of people are power gamers and will bring whatever they can get away with. That's fine, as long as everyone knows what to expect.

I'm not sure forcing super-heavies to shoot each other before anything else is the best solution, though. It completely invalidates any super-heavy like the Malcador Infernus that isn't designed to engage enemy super-heavies. My favoured solution to Escalation is a nerf/ban on Destroyer weapons and a limit of max 40% of your detachment total for any Lord of War. This completely prohibits the more ridiculous things like Reaver Titans below about 3-4k points, where they should be managable with the prohibition of D weapons. Additionally, it forces you to choose between an expensive super-heavy and an allied detachment, which means taking a SHV is now a significant trade-off rather than an automatic inclusion. The cheaper super-heavies can still be used with a modest allied detachment, but they aren't particularly overwhelming so I don't think that's an issue. Taking a Daemon Lord or Thunderhawk or Warhound or similar becomes a trade-off because they pretty much limit you to one codex.
That's my thoughts on the whole issue, at least.

There's cyber parts on all orks save two... and extra armor bits on all of them. Several of the orks have cyber bodies of on sort or another which are not very apparent because of the angle of the photograph.

Well, this is about as "cobbled together" a group of figures as your going to find. A couple of AoBR orks in here, built up shootas from sluggas... that sort of thing.
Da rulz:
- each figure must have one cyber-part
- each figure must have several pieces of extra armor
Cyber parts all came from Kromolech are are brilliant. So perfectly cast that I had difficulty finding mold lines to clean up. Unfortunately they didn't quite send what was ordered (needed 5 clanking destroyer heads, got 1), so I'm trying to get ahold of them to get that sorted. Two of the orks aren't really cybered up, though I guess one of them has a head that *could* work. The other I tried to put a bionik eye on but it didn't really work out all that well. If I ever get the missing heads from Kromolech, I'll swap his head out.
I'm trying to sort out a paint scheme for them. I want all the extra armor plates & cyber parts to be obvious... so I need to set them apart from the rest of the boyz. I don't want to go with a completely different paint scheme... but I do want them to stand out.
I think the mono-track is my favorite... the whole figure just worked out really well.
