I like how they sized the real buildings as the spires for the 40k one

I'll also take this moment to point out that in 'real time' the average 5-turn game would take appx 15-30 seconds.

LOL when in the 25 year history of 40k has proper scale been a concern? never. You just have to let it go. If you care about scale, GW is not for you. The whole truescale marine phenomenon is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Why make marines truescale when not a single human is truescale?
you've GOT to let it go...

I care not for scale. After all, most starship miniatures games I play, the true 'scale' of the miniature would be the size of the top of the flight stand peg.

My complaint about the fort is the massive wang tower. WANG. TOWER.

*froth*

Oh well. Once I replace it with working smoke stacks, life will be ever so much better.

For what it is worth, I think the tower looks quite cool. I'm going to be putting a Shrine of the Aquila together soon. It's pretty tall as well. Excellent LoS blocker. I would like to eventually get a Fortress but it's not going to actually be the building it is intended to be.

Question for you since you already have one- on most GW building panels it has a plain backside. Is this true for the FoR as well? That will be a huge selling point for me if it does.

Yes and no.

The 'inside' of the various panels are blank, but they're NOT modular and do NOT work well with CoD panels. Additionally, the tower is molded in a way that the interior is minimal plastic use, thus rounded and bumpy. And since the tower is narrower at the top, it doesn't work with CoD pieces, either.

GW really missed a chance to make something great with this kit.

The bunker wall pieces fit other CoD panels, but not without some internal bracing...

In fairness though the wall of martyr's kits look really good! And it's nice to see a GW scenery kit for 40k that isn't either city, forest-y, or just a hill. (I'm ignoring the planetstrike stuff here cos that was designed with the expansion as opposed to just the kit - and yes I know the same happened with COD but they've become more just scenery than the expansion).

I am on the side of the fence that thinks the WOM kits look like crap. But that's because the whole PILES OF DEAD CADIANS LOL look doesn't do ANYTHING for me. At all.

Uh as a person who actually painted a full set of WoM... They are crap. they were designed to 80%...

<Snip> Repost from my General terrain thread.

It looks unfinished because its modeled that way... no seriously any more detailed shading makes it look worse... get a close up look at a set if you can. there are what in FPS games are referred to as "clipping errors" EVERYWHERE. Boxes in walls. Skulls where a single skull stretches to infinity etc... Ease of "assembly" 4 of 5, to 5 of 5 depending. (the bunker is the 4), Replicated tessellated details everywhere. the SAME EXACT BODY was used on no fewer than two points on Each "straight "section and once on each of the "T" emplacements and twice on the "bunker." The longer you look the more odd things you will find. It looks an awful lot like there was a highly detailed and half assed resin master created, that was then vacuformed, then the vacuform was turned into the production mold.

I would strongly recommend another trench terrain piece as a "pre fab" purchase. as a fully assembled and cohesively painted piece it works, but it will never be "pretty". The Ageius lines are an example of the right way to do it, the wall of martyrs... not so much
</Snip>

an eaxample of the "clipping errors" is visible in this pic, notice the deceased cadian torso being stretched down into infinity...

Yes. Maybe some minor detailing. And from the position of the bodies, the walls are being ATTACKED by Cadian Guardsmen. Think about that for a moment. "Imperial Defense Line".

I'm not buying the WoM personally, I don't like it for that reason Brian. Dave Andrews usually doesn't disappoint like this...

How viable, for anyone who has it, to slice off the dead bodies, boxes, and whatnot, and replace it with normal looking dead things?

not very, the only really "salvageable" parts would be the "jersey barrier" looking things and the interior flooring...

I am matching the design of the original Fortress. The top platform is a little wider than the Pyramid of Dork, which is why I built the smaller platform.

Solar_lion wrote:Looks great. can you still fit the same no of figures in it or did you lose some space?

I actually GAINED space, so I'll make sure only five figures are placed in it, tops, during competitive play.
