Gencon day 2.

Awesomeness continued. I continued to demo stuff. Boss monster 2, superfight, pompei, johari (sp?), a kids game with wooden animals, i know, and a few others I will remember later.

Boss Monster and it's expansions were purchased. It sounds like many of you know that game already.

Superfight is a hilarious argument game. You draw three cards that are people and animals, like Kirk and Barney. You then draw three other cards that are powers, like sonic scream or just drank 5 energy drinks. You then argue why your combo would defeat the other persons combo. The noncombatants then pick the winner after the arguments have concluded. They then had other expansions that added settings or fun things.

Pompei was a surprisingly great game. Made by Mayfair. The first half of the game is you placing your people in pompei. The second half is you trying to escape pompei while lava spreads. I'll be going back to pick that one up tomorrow. Great for your non gamer friends.

The others were fun but not really fun enough for me to buy.

Tonight we did go to the concert against humanity. It was put on by the cards against humanity guys, as you can imagine. It was full of comedians, writers, and musicians. It was over 4 hours long and fantastic. Everyone was great. I'll try to find a line up later.

Oh, I also went to 2 writing seminars. One about characterization, it wasn't that great. The other about plotting, it was great.

It is now bed time. More later.

GenCon Day 3

Today was forced to become a much shorter day then originally planned due to our baby sitting situation. We only managed to be there for around 4 hours. We did get in another Mayfair demo, I honestly don't think I ever was told what the name of the game was called but the premise was that everyone was a news paper and we were sending out our reporters to gather required stories and info to make articles. You then gather up articles to fill up your paper. Simple in concept but very elaborate. The game also had many different options. Many of the pieces were double sided so that you could flip them and use there 5 - 6 player sides for larger games. Overall, very good. I won the demo and wanted to play again, but that is really rude at a demo hall atmosphere, especially with people waiting. We did pick up that Pompei game.

Quick side note, my exploding kitten game came in the mail yesterday. We got in a couple games of that tonight. GREAT game, very simple but very amusing.

Any ways, back to GenCon. I had a great chat with the guys at Warsenal. They make some great terrain bits. I highly recommend their stuff. Good quality, lots of neat options, and reasonably priced for what you get. Check out their site and look at their objectives if you want a taste.

Back to demos, we visited one of my favorite games from two years ago, Red Dragon Inn. They have some neat expansions coming out along with a big box that will hold all of their previous stuff. Slugfest has done a great job deepening their line without over complicating the game.

We checked out a sci-fi horror RPG game called Eclipse Phase. I am not super familiar with that genre but the books were gorgeous. I almost bought them just for the art. They also had a little something for everyone. You like political shadowrunesque settings, they have an area for that. You want huge space battles, easy peasy. You want boarderlands death insurance, DONE! You want to upload your conscious into a genetically altered humanoid cyber octopus, OCTODONE! They also had a really neat card system that you could purchase to make your life easier. Say, after you uploaded your "being" into the cyber octopus thing and you then get kicked by an alien robot gorilla to death, the cards will help you recall where you were when you last did the upload so that you don't have to copy all your crap down. I don't know how it works but the booth person I was speaking with was great at describing it.

My wife just walked by, the newspaper game was called Extra Extra.

Now, for those of you who haven't spend a lot of time with me in real life, there is something you need to know about me. I take food very seriously, especially when I travel or have new places as an option. I think I mentioned this before but Indianapolis has an AWESOME food truck scene. Every day we have eaten at multiple trucks. Today was the best HANDS DOWN. Far Out Freds, was the name of the truck. We got an amazing open faced burger with a great blend of white cheeses, a nice tomato relish, lettuce, and some amazing sauce. With it we picked up Thors Lightning Balls, which were fried bacon cheese balls. (OMGAMAZING) We also picked up a fruit kabob with a light refreshing coconut butter dip. Ridiculous.

Did I mention there was also a doughnut truck? Today I had a Klingon Brain, which was an apple fritter with a green glaze. It was pretty good. Yesterday we visited this truck and picked up a White Trash Suicide. A white cake doughnut with mountain flavored icing, sprinkled with pop rocks. The best one though, was this salted caramel chocolate doughnut my wife bought both times.

But I digress. GenCon has been great thus far. Tomorrow is family day, we will be bringing the boys to visit some friends and play some kids games. One thing that I did miss today that saddens me, is the costumer parade. They have a big, BIG costume contest every Saturday of GenCon. Hundreds of people dress up. This years winning contest is already up on the gencon website, go check it out! Before the contest all of the contestants walk down some of the corridors between the various convention halls. Everyone else lines up and watches them walk past. It is always a blast and a lot of fun to see what people come up with.

Okay, this is the earliest I've been able to get some rest so I am going to try and take advantage. I hope you've been enjoying my little posts. Please ask me any questions if you have any.

One more thing, I saw Briancj today. He was busy so we didn't chat but his room seemed very popular at the time.

Thanks guys. I haven't uploaded all of mine yet and frankly it is late and i won't be doing any of that tonight. I will however tell you all about my last day at GenCon. Day 4!

Sunday is family day at GenCon. The vendor hall isn't open as late. Now, I have to very small boys, 9 months and 3 years old. We stayed about as long as we could manage before they began to get out of control. We mainly stayed in the kids area where we played lots of memory games and balancing games. They had a HUGE Janga set. It was probably three feet tall, all wood. They then set it up on a table so it looked even bigger. It was fun. The one game that I did get to demo, that wasn't a kids game, on Sunday was called Heroes Wanted. It reminded me of Mystery Men, but the premise was that the super hero team in the city has an open spot so they are holding try outs. I didn't get to check out much of the game play but I did get through all of the descriptions and set up. The hero and villain system is fantastic. There are two stacks for each, one is the picture of a super hero or villains head, the other is their body. The body cards are all adjectives, like 1,000 years old, or cyborg, or beastly, or American. The heads are all titles like, the volcano, the hurricane, the giant taco, the pyscho mummy. You put the two together and you have your super hero and your villain. 1,000 year old giant taco! It was brilliant. Each had different powers and abilities and ways to "level" up. I wish we could have played it a bit more but the three year old was getting a bit hangry at this time. (for those of you without small kids, hangry is hungry and angry)

We of course visited another fantastic food truck. Ordered a portrait done of my 9 month old from my artist buddy. Picked up a couple of the kids games and then went home. According to the parking pass we were there around 3 hours. I feel like there was something else I wanted to tell you guys about GenCon but I have forgotten...............

They did just post that they had a new record number of pass purchases. Something like 70,000 unique attendees were there this year. That is pretty cool.

OH, for those of you who are X-Wing fans they put out miniatures for the next wave of models. More bounty hunters and a new epic ship that carries tie fighters into battle. It looks freaking sweet, and I don't typically play Empire.

Apparently all of the photo's are else where. The only pictures on my camera were some of this.

Here was my necromunda board we played on last Wednesday. I think we played three of four games that day. We moved the board pieces around of course.

Ok, maybe a bit late for that, but I just like what you did with the LR !

Especially how you refrained from going overboard with the stripes, and making them stop halfway down.... Kudos !

Yggs, I am not sure if anything in particular thing is creeping up on me. I have a mountain of Ice Angels that need to be painted along with a horde of genestealers and a waaaaagh of orks but I just haven't really been in a painting mood. I have been in more of a building mood. I think I may do some terrain bits and bobs, but more importantly I think I want to make a scenario or a campaign. I've been reviewing the guys that I have put together recently and I have realized that a lot of them aren't legal, yet I keep making more. Why would I be making 40k models that I couldn't legally play? Perhaps because they look cool? I haven't decided.

At any rate, I have some terrain bits that need to be built. They have been put off for long enough. It's time to get some more ruins and then figure out a good reason to play on them. That is where I will start.

I have never created a 40k campaign before. That may be fun to construct.

I managed to start up a new little project recently. I have had an old manticore FW kit for about 12 years now. It was always one of my favorites but I could never commit to putting it together or painting it. I think once a year I would say to myself, I should get that out and paint it, but obviously that never happened.

Until now. Moonpie and I have been throwing around some campaign ideas and I thought that a converted manticore platform that had been orkified would be a great piece to battle around.

So far I am just laying pieces out to see what I like. Btw, the other side of the missile battery is going to be a collection of ork anti-air guns. I hope you like it.

So does this mean I have to make the obligatory moonpie vote of Pink and Yellow?

You guys do realize that I actually have to play against Moonpie's pink and yellow army right? The last thing my board needs is more pink and yellow on it.

Please keep in mind that it is primed black as well. Black to a lovely yellow isn't always that much fun to pull off.

However, I did say that Ramos could pick so I will stick by that decision. Any other suggestions?

My actual vote is for a very heavily waethered imperial colours, olive drab, with lots of rust and corrosion.
