Dragon looks muuuuch better than the current lot. Pose is a lot more dynamic/realistic, and I think they've managed to iron out the whole "snake with ginormous head" kind of look. The new HE line is looking really promising, and with everything in plastic, too!

Which begs the question, when is it slated to appear again? I think I missed the previous threads...

How do they expect the thing to stay balanced in plastic? Anyone have any idea?

that is an awesome model, wow!

and i think it should be ok in plastic, better than metal. plastic is lightweight and you could easily counter balance it wiht a weighted base.

It is about the same pose as the old "Melnibonean Dragon Rider" circa the late 80's, from Citadel/Marauder. The thing should stay balanced quite well, actually. The center of gravity is quite far to the rear, and the base is slightly forward. There may still be some tippiness. It looks pretty feasible to cut the hind feet free and reposition the rocks under the chest/forefeet area. This should increase the stability, and make the model more useable on the table top (imagine trying to get that into base contact with cavalry!).

Right now, though, my first thought is: w00t! They just doubled the range of that thing's breath weapon!

I want one... though where I will keep it is a pickle.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

Wow that pose is cool for display, but as for game use, do you hope you'll never charge chaos knights?

It's *sniff* beautiful!

I only hope it is as customizable as its counterpart, the Giant "Master-Class" sculpt. That pose looks rather... fixed in place :-( Will definitely make it harder for me to field 3-4 dragons in an army like I plan to (here's hoping HE heroes can ride "drakes" that don't take up extra command spots!)

This is pretty 'rumory' but I heard that the studio currently has 3-4 (4-5?) dragon sculpts kicking around. One is the "fat cat" dragon for LotR, one is this dragon, and the others are ... possibly more HE dragons, possibly a Chaos dragon, possibly a VC dragon. Seeing how Chaos and VC are next up and have dragons, that could work, but I would expect at least 1 other dragon kit for HE myself.

EDIT: Me am stupid.  But it seems kind of small to be a Dragon Lord's mount.

Small??

But who can say, that's the only HE dragon on the scanned release sheet I got. The rider is flashy enough to be a (generic) HE Lord of the Dragon.

Up your nose with a rubber hose.

Blech. Better than Trish's super-wriggly version, but I still don't like it. Maybe it's the pictures. I prefer my dragons to be less serpentine with a defined upper and lower torso. Were I ever to collect High Elves, I think I'd still rely on McFarlane's dragon figures

Very nice model, but I wish they put dragons on bigger bases, chariot bases would be best.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

I agree with elusive. I think I"d probably use the magnificent egos razorwing model if I played an army that had dragons. This thing looks less snaky and more salamander-y, that's all.

Went digging through my old posts, and guess what? I've been hating on mat ward since before it was cool

I really like it. But are the basic infantry being redone? The blocky bodies and overly pointy helms with giant hands have kinda kept me off =/

Conical helms are nothing wrong, there were real helmets that looked like that (but without heroic scaling). As for the hands I quite agree, but its mainly a problem for spearelves. However Gw inadvertently included a solution, spearelf vambraces extend onto the back of the hand, but withiout any semblance of a gap or flexibility, so the armour looks 'fused' to the hand. Therefore you are not seeing the hand but a leather gauntlet. I painted my spearelves accordingly and they made much more sense.

The only thing I dont like about the model. Reins on horses, yes please, chariots too. But it would have to be a VERY strong elf to turn a dragons head where you want it to go. Everything about large monster riders indicates that the monster is magically compelled or a willing partner, not a steed to be steered by force.
