Check out the Mayhem line over at WorldWorksGames if you want a building with interiors, or their Swift Scenics line if you just need some rooftops to fight over.. that's what I will be using for sure, but only because after pledging for all those Pulp City minis, I can't afford to buy a table full of Sarissa Precision buildings!

Anyone know of a good place to pick up papercraft/cardstock 'superhero' city buildings?

I remember coming across some...somewhere...sometime ago...

Twilight Street Heroic Scale is the one I'd recommend. The other two Twilight Street sets will work if you scale them at 130%, if I recall my experiments. Unfortunately, this means that you'll need to either redo all the files to fit them to more sheets of paper or print them on 11"x17" stock. That's also when you'll discover that the wall sides aren't necessarily consistent, with front and back walls being slightly narrower than each other. Fortunately, they do free demo files for both scales. I recommend Horseman's Deli to start.

That's the one I was thinking of - thank you!

Love getting the terrain pieces. Thanks guys. Gearing up for the Pulp models coming soon.

Oh, and the book. Seen a few sneak peeks, and its looking real good. Here's a part of the section on Vigilantes:

Note the inclusion of some old models that have not been in the range for a while: Slug Muldoon and Sovreign. Also note the completely new Canadian Supreme going by the name of Bigfoot.

Yay for Update #100!

As we work on things, I thought it would be a good idea to make you take a look at the Quick Start Reference Sheet that will be included in both starters. It is also a great chance for us to crowdsource your opinions (we got some feedback already for it, but your opinion is very welcomed before this goes into print). Images will be more transparent for the print. So let us know what you think!

This game looks so cool and could finally get me out of Heroclix. I only get them because I love comics and the characters but the rules and figures suck. I hope they think of getting a comic published as well to go along with it.

For the Pulp Monsters team it is not just about 'what now' in delivering this project, but also 'what next'. Consequently, the new Pulp City SE book is packed full of fluff and will also give hints at new Supremes and Factions headed to Pulp City. Some of these have been hinted at for some time, while we also have some real surprises which we think will blow people away. We have so much planned for the near future and further out, all made possible by your support guys.

But we are committed to delivering this project first before we launch into future projects; we want our amazing backers to fully enjoy what you have helped make happen. Each day and each week we are another step closer to fulfilling backer rewards. And while we do this we are striving to add even more to a game we want you to enjoy, while finishing up the KS work: proofing, heading to printing, having those thousands of minis cast in metal and resin, and working to the fine details of processes to make fulfilment as quick and hopefully painless as possible.

One of the things we had to work out was that we would not have painted minis done in time for all our Supreme and Minion game cards. We mentioned this a while back, and the options were pictures of unpainted resin minis in those cases, or character concept art. The general feedback was largely in favour of art, which is the direction we took. You can see a few examples in this update to show how we will be doing this.

PROGRESS THURSDAY!

NEWS FLASH - THIS ONE IS GOING TO BE LATE!

Update #102

Progress Thursdays #30

Howdy,

last September update. Obviously the stuff ain't gonna show on your doorstep in the next 4 days. So where are we? I realistically expect everything to happen within the next 2 months - so 10-20% extra time, which is not bad given 1050% more work than the initial goal.

I hope that the next couple of weeks will highlight the production we are doing. We are printing in two batches: one is book (final proofread feedback is being gathered until tomorrow, I am glad that the biggest issue being reported is word "die" capitalized and not capitalized in some rules), the second is everything else. We've increased the scope of this batch by printing custom Pulp City card deck boxes (shipping hundreds of cards in shrinkwrap doesn't really work) and new format of the starter box which also will be the box for some powerhouses. Trust me, Stygian doesn't fit in any blister!

The metal production had to be actually split between Poland and England, which adds some complication but that is all for the sake of the quality. As for resins, the biggest slow down is the Monsters - the model of that size takes so much time to cast and breaks the mold easily if mishandled.

I love treating you to pictures each week, so here's one. A cast of Pulp City's first ever 3D sculpt!

The hand belongs to one of the MaxMini's expert casters (have you checked their Kickstarter project, Green Alliance?). Enjoy!

Howdy Citizens,

Big news: Book jumps into the printing presses on Monday (that is if it gets the approval). The printers are more or less local, so no worries about shipping containers from China (seems to be the key words for a lot of KS we've backed ourselves!).

Now pictures!

I realized we haven't shown you the last 3 minis, so here they are as resin masters.

And finally to comfort your souls, here's some pictures from my last visit at MaxMini, our resin casters.

Take care,

Maciej & The Team

Really excited to hear that MaxMini are doing the casting - they do a fantastic job with resin!

Howdy Citizens,

we are in a very interesting time of this KS - pretty much everything is out of our hands.

Now it is the waiting game.

What's the plan for the upcoming updates?

We can show you all of the Supreme Genesis creations, we are waiting for the approval of the last ones.

New paintjobs as they show up (we got a couple new ones already).

Anything else that you would like to see?
As a dessert, here's a production picture of all the resin masters that are being cast in metal in the UK. The casts will be much higher quality than my digital hand writing!

Have a great week,

Progress Thursdays #33: Supreme Genesis - Doctor Warlock
Comment

Howdy Citizens, and welcome to the first of several special Updates.

One of Pulp City’s most avid supporters, Drew (a.k.a. Doctor Warlock) has been a really strong part of the Pulp City community for years. So it was a pleasure for us to see him back the Pulp City SE project at the Supreme Genesis level. We were excited to see what Drew wanted to come up with, and he didn't let us down!

Drew has had a character named Doctor Warlock feature in a variety of games over the years. The game version of Doctor Warlock has gone through various incarnations, and it was this rich history that concept artist Liam C. was able to draw upon to develop the art piece shown here, which in turn will be used as the basis for the Doctor Warlock sculpt. Following that, with Drew’s input the team has developed a set of rules for the character which we hope reflect his history and give him a unique and deserved place in Pulp City.

Each Supreme Genesis backer came up with a great core concept, and we are as excited as we hope they are to see them develop toward a final package of concept, mini and rules, with five fantastic Supremes waiting to be unleashed on Pulp City. The next few updates will unveil the Supreme Genesis creations, so enjoy this, the first of five very special Supreme concepts.

The Pulp Monsters Team.

Update #106 from Pulp City: Supreme Edition
Oct 23 2014

Progress Thursdays #34: Supreme Genesis - Bramble
Comment
Howdy once more Citizens, and welcome back to our series of updates showcasing the Supreme Genesis characters.

The second in our series focuses on Bramble. Bramble was one of the earliest of the five SG projects to take shape. Over the course of a week or so the backer who created Bramble was able to work through a few concepts he was thinking about, and then settled on what would eventually become the Supreme known as Bramble. Bramble’s creator Andrew decided early on that the character would be part of the same Faction as Father Oak and Acorn, and we were happy to support that.

So with a broad concept decided on, rules ideas were floated by Andrew, which Devon built upon to provide a first draft. Andrew was able to refine the draft further with requests to bring Bramble as close as possible to his vision in terms or rules. As this was happening, thoughts turned to the visual of the character, and so Liam C. was engaged to tackle the concept. A few tweaks to the visual design followed at Andrew’s request and what we have from then can be seen below. In fact, the name Bramble was only settled at that time as she had been going by a different name through the process until then!

Going forward, the rules have had further refinement and as at each previous stage will rely on our backer’s vision to be realized. The mini will be sculpted within the next couple of months, and while that happens we hope to get the rules for this character and the of SG projects out to our play-testers to make sure Bramble fits her concept and Pulp City’s game world.

Progress Thursdays #35: Supreme Genesis – Antaean
Comment

Howdy once more Citizens, and again to our series of updates showcasing the Supreme Genesis characters, as well as project progress too.

Our third SG preview is Antaean, a character with a growing history. Antaean’s creator has sown the seeds of this character’s history across several projects, from art designs and depictions, to Kickstarter projects like Pulp City and also this, where Antaean will be immortalised in prose:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/blake-northcott/final-empire-the-complete-arena-mode-book-series

Ross immediately pitched his idea of Antaean as a Powerhouse Hero for Pulp City, with the idea of his game-play being Hercules with a pinch of Homer Simpson! That certainly gave us a starting point for the rules, and that was really helped by Ross having a clearly defined vision for his character (see below). Ross has been working with the team to try and achieve a balanced hero who will offer something unique to Pulp City and hopefully embody the character that Ross wants on the battlefield!

Now for the update about delivery progress; here is the situation report: we are 85% complete with MaxMini casting (waiting for final Monster castings – those are big, multi-part kits, and we have had a lot of them to complete with the Collector pledges); we get cards from the printer next week; there has been an unexpected delay with our metal caster which we are working hard to resolve, as soon as possible; and we have had perfect proofs for the book, which we approved last week - we didn’t want to speed up this process by skipping proofs, because we are aiming for the best book we can produce and we felt strongly that we did not want to pass that risk of not proofing properly on to our backers. As soon as those remaining parts of the project are on their way back to Pulp Monsters we can give a firm idea of shipping dates.

Progress Thursdays #36: Supreme Genesis – Rath
Comment
2 likes
Howdy once again Citizens.

This week’s Supreme Genesis up[date concerns Rath, who was described by his creator as a character he plays in a number of role playing games; a martial artist that uses four collapsible spears controlled with his psychic or mystical powers. Robert further clarified him as more of a fast or nimble character, but not really a stealthy assassin type, with close combat being his primary modus operandi, with some ranged attack option.

Armed with the background information, Robert also provided a physical description from which Liam C. was able to develop the broad strokes of the visual concept as can be seen in the picture. Rath’s initial rules were developed from those first concepts that Robert gave us, and as with the other Supreme Genesis backers continue to evolve. We hope to get all of the SG Supremes into play-test soon.

Fulfillment Update

Casting the Monsters is complex because each kit has a form consisting of 9 elements (9 smaller molds). In addition, the body is so large that a particularly large mold is required, and you have to remember that this is only part of the whole model. The molds for the resin parts only last for around 25-30 casts before requiring replacement, and we have 66 pledges with Monsters to fulfill (which is why we could not offer the kit except as part of the Collector’s pledge). Logistically it is and has been a slow and complex process. Delays have come in, but our resin caster has given us assurance that the Monster kits should be cast by the end of November, and as soon as they are, we will let you guys know. In fact, as soon as we have everything else but a few remaining Monsters, we will start shipping and if necessary, worry about delivering some of the Monsters separately. Hopefully it won't be an issue though.

More of the resin casts for other models have been completed, and you can see the results here (even more Giant Hadrons, Stygian Trueforms, Amoks and now Soul Golems):

We also mentioned in or last update delays with our metal caster who has been dealing with large volumes of orders from other customers. One of our team will be arranging to visit with the caster in the next few days to look at quality control as we try and get that order delivered to Pulp Monsters HQ as soon as possible. More next week!

PROGRESS THURSDAY is here again!

And really, these Progress Thursday's really serve to highlight how fast time flies, and how the end of 2014 is near - in fact, only 6 Progress Thursdays left to go until 2015!

Progress Thursdays #37

Howdy Citizens of Pulp.

Firstly, there is no update for the final Supreme Genesis this week as we wait on amended concept art, however we do have updates about production.

Cards, cards, cards!

Cards are at the printer, which we are awaiting and can be seen above, which will amount to a run of approximately 200,000 cards. We are currently expecting the books next week, and also the minis being cast by Griffin should arrive then (some of the masters for those can be seen below).

We visited with Griffin to look over metal master castings which revealed an issue with one of the Ankle Biter models. This issue was due to the caster of our resin masters creating two copies of the same Ankle Biter which was subsequently sent to Griffin. By picking this up we were able to ensure the resin caster corrects the problem without causing additional delay.

The point of explaining the above issue is that with a project involving several hundred discrete components when you consider books, individual sculpts, dice and individual cards, as well as packaging materials etc., there is and has been lots of potential for delay, and we are working extremely hard to keep any additional delays to a minimum.

As we inch closer to fulfilment we promise and assure you that we will continue to keep you informed. More next week Citizens!

I have my doubts that this one ships in 2014, but I'm still hopeful that it might!

Progress Thursday:

#110
Progress Thursdays #38
Posted by Pulp Monsters

Howdy Citizens,

update from the frontline.

Cards & Boxes: Pretty much everything in here and will be sorted out until the end of the week.

Karol came up with the brilliant system of sorting them. The biggest challenge is that these cards need to be packed "ready to go" for EU& Rest of the World and separately, but easy to combine for the US shipment which will fly to Devon's warehouse.

Please applaud Karol on his awesome work and even more awesome beard!

The cards themselves are gorgeous. If you liked the old ones, you will love these. They are sturdier than most of the game cards we know thanks to the matte foil. And I have to admit - I love the art cards so much, we will need to have a serious talk in which way to go - art or mini picture.

Judge for yourselves!

We found one misprint on cards (Le Murtiple card has a non-matching back and front) but it will be fixed fast.

Books: Just got a tracking number for delivery, so they should be here Fri/Mon latest, I will post the pictures along with the last update.

Miniatures: Every new grey hair - I attribute them to our work with casters. This is the most frustrating experience in my business experience. Words "deadlines" & "communication" don't exist in some dictionaries. Our emails and calls about ETA don't get answered and after 3 attempts stretched over a week, we get a reply "We are hoping moulds will be done this week". Plus an obligatory So between all the "hopes", "believes" and such, I am reduced to just waiting - which really bothers me. In any normal case, I would cancel the order and move on, but starting the process anew is too time consuming. Anyways, next time, instead of going local (as in EU), we may prospect casting in China

Resins are all done (nothing changes here) save for the Monsters. I am starting to work out a backup plan so that it doesn't hold us back when metals arrive. Would any of the collectors be interested in a 50$ refund to skip the Monster from their pledge? Let us know - I will have a separate communication about it.

Anyways, what drives us here is the amazing quality of everything we've gotten so far and we just can't be bogged down and we look forward to the delivery and all the awesome stuff we got lined up for future.

Take care,

Maciej & Team

Alph--

definitely. And we're still in early stages of mulling a GenCon meet? There will be a Pulp City tourney with creators present.

So, they have the books now...

So, I think that means the KS stands like this:
Book: done, in hand
Cards: done, in hand
Dice: done, in hand
Resin Models: done, in hand (giant monster as an exception)
Metal Models: all sculpted, all mastered, waiting for stock to be met (China!)

Supreme Genesis: all art approved, play testing has started, sculptors hired, greens due by end of year, production assumed to start in March

drazz - Gencon 2015 is still a 'maybe' for me, not sure if I'm going to make that one...

The Supreme Genesis stuff - that shouldn't hold up all the rest of the pledges, right?

So most of us are just waiting on the metal models out of China?

Which of the resins are the "Giant Monsters"?

I just hope they beat CNY 2015!!!

Yeah. Japan gets Golden Week and numerous "happy mondays" throughout the year, S. Korea gets Chusok and Solnol, we get a day here and there. :-(

Sad panda.

Heck, even people in Europe are able to "go on holiday" for a month at a time...

at this point, I doubt there's any chance for late baker options. PM me though, I might have a few more duplicate (or triplicate) minis. Also, make sure you look through for the free pdf's.

@Alpha:
they are not waiting for the Genesis models. Those will have to be made as purchases separately. The only "large monster" is this multi-part behemoth they have had for a while (killing molds along the way is the story; they offered $50 refund for collectors to not get the monster):

I'd like to hope this gets shipped by the end of the year. 2014 that is.
