Don't want to derail the thread, but "The Edge" looks promising. People are chatting about it in the News and Rumours section.

I have a fair collection of Secrets of the Third Riech so I'm keeping an eye out for West Winds offering.

As for WWX I have a bunch of outlaws. I like the alien faction. Could play Cowboys vs Aliens. Aliens are always useful. I like the Roswell Grey look of these.

So you can only get the new factions, not choose any of the older ones. You are charged shipping despite them offering free shipping on their website and they will invalidate the rulebook you receive the same year you get your stuff.

Not very condusive to welcoming potential new players.

Pass.

I would have to strongly disagree but that is maybe because I see it from the totally opposite direction. I get people sell stuff already out on KS but honestly thats breaking the KS rules and I get that most dont listen to them but I can respect a companies choice to follow the rules. The KS is to fund NEW factions so offering them makes sense. They do offer a special 2 person starter set of Lawmen and Outlaws but that is changed with special cards to really it is new to KS.

Also they do explain why they charge shipping. Contrary to (some) popular belief they are a small company. 4 people, that's it (this isn't a Mantic or CMON KS where massive fees can just be absorbed). I do not expect a company that small to handle my shipping fees. I enjoy saving money but I am also a reasonable person when it comes to expectation. They explained last KS by taking so much of the fees in it hurt them and their release date. They have actually been really really good so far at communicating their points across. In addition they also explain that the money goes towards expanded out more employees to ship the material. This is something they learned from last time and so kudos for them correcting problems that they had.

Also I am a new player but I have been following them for sometime waiting for a point to jump in and I think now is the best time in a long time, but that's just my opinion.

Finally as a side note to everything else- for those who have been keeping up, I really enjoy the way they are doing there updates- everyday they will do up to two updates that just include all the FAQs so people can refer to the updates instead of having to go through the thread to find the points they want to find. I have yet to see a KS do that and I really like that idea. Their first FAQ already answered a lot. Which is nice. At least for me it is.

One big plus is that this is their 2nd project. I had cold feet and pulled out of the 1st but they delivered. I ended up with the rulebook and the Outlaws from somebody else's pledge afterwards.

You can offer existing product on a KS if that product was also funded by KS, so they could have everything available and not be breaking ToS.

I do like those Aliens though!

FAQ's

Can I pledge and get current factions already released?

No, only the new factions Confederate Rebellion, Golden Army, The Watchers, and Dark Nation will be part of this kickstarter.

Why is there a shipping fee when you current website has free shipping over $200?

The shipping fees for the ks are very low and much lower than the actual cost relaited to those pledges. The funds we collect under the shipping title actually goes for hiring the additional staff it will require to pack and ship the pledges. Our staff is only made up of 4 full time employees making it very difficult to ship large quantities without delays. The shipping fees will help with that by bringing in more staff.

Are the "Silver Cards" included in the "Black Edition" two player starter different from the current cards?

Yes, each character unique model in the Black Edition set will have new special rules and abilities currently not on their cards. This will play characters like Frank James, Doc Holliday, and Wyatt Earp completely different from their current rules.

Is the rule book included with the current pledges the original rule book or a new version 2.0?

The rule books included in this kickstarter are the current rules. We first need to release these 4 factions and playtest all of the characters before printing a new addition. The new rule book will be out in late 2016 if we successfully fund on this kickstarter.

Will I be able to swap out models at the end of the kickstarter like last time?

No, the swapping of minis within the bundles was a horrible nightmare for us and the backers. It caused delays and major packing issues that let to customers getting the wrong items or missing models. We do not want that this time so all sets will be available as is and any additional items backers may want will be available as add-ons after the kickstarter.

How will international orders be handled regarding shipping and customs charges?

Our goal is to avoide all unnecessary charges regarding shipping. We will group all international orders together and send them to our partners in the UK. From there they will distribute them to all EU and UK locations avoiding costly customs charges. If for some reason your specific country has special rules that may require you to check before pledging. We will work very hard at taking care of these types of issues if we have the power to.

Not sure why anyone would want one of the current factions for a kickstarter that will deliver in a year - just buy them off the website and get them in a few days...

Because you'd get access to KS exclusives by doing it through the KS. Otherwise, yes, retail is the better way to go.

The lure of potential discounts for a game which does not show up on online discounter websites

the inherent completionist streak some of us have (even if it's not really viable when a system get this big)

plus if they had offered existing stuff people could then have agitated for early shipping of existing stuff even if they had to pay extra for it

We are now all getting another stretch goal unlocked and with that more free models!

I understand why people want the existing factions (basically people want resin/plastic for cheap however you want to swing it lol) but it would hit their actual business and impact their supplier gaming stores which you can understand they would not want to do.

Supplier gaming stores, where ? There's 4 LGS within 45 minutes of me, I've been to at least 20 others around the country while traveling for work and I think the only time I saw them was someone using their KS models for a game. And that's on them for distribution decisions they've made. Those watchers still have me tempted even as charred as their bridge is with me.

I think one of our local game stores bought in at retail level when the first kickstarter stuff was coming out. Never seen it played and never saw it at another store and since the store that ordered isn't a regular of mine I don't know if they even still carry it. Pity that they don't retail through major online/game stores like Warstore or Miniature Market. Oh well, I might go in for the confederate states if enough of the cool models get released

What are they made of if they don't reach the HIPS goal? Resin? Restic?

The Hired Hands (the "normal" troops) and a few other things are plastic. Almost everything else is resin.

To date, the Hired Hands are Polystyrene and the Characters/Support are Resin. To the best of my knowledge (although I've not seen the large vehicles in the flesh), they don't use PVC at all.

The resin models I've had so far have had nice, crisp detail and very little warping.

The plastic they use is the same type you'd get with GW models. The resin is of the same quality as the FW stuff.

Stores are carrying it but not enough to drive its growth yet I'd guess. We stock it and it sells well for a minor range. As a retailer we have no real issue with the majority of kickstarters "bypassing" us as they test the water. Nothing worse than taking on an entire range and it sitting on shelves a year or 3 later not moving. Which we have done. At least a kickstarter allows even retailers unaffiliated to gauge demand.

Getting a game into many retail stores is a massive uphill struggle these days there are hundreds of games trying to get your attention. No retail store is possibly large enough.

I find this such an important thing to consider. While I do agree they have been kind of slow getting it to more retailers, at the same time it is something challenging to do and I assume they are going at a pace that works for their company. I also assume this KS will push more people towards putting it in stores. That being said I do not mind the resin, I have seen it (do not own any yet) and it looked great. Of course the hard plastics they do are also great... They do a lot of things well they just need more people into the game and more promotion of it.

Also the KS does have good deals for the add-ons when you look at the prices that you save on. Also they just unlocked some more free stuff (and some more free stuff thrown in for achievements) so there is some value that is starting to build.

I love the Aliens.

And i liked the WWX basic background concept, but i feel that the new factions make it even more of an "anything goes!" concept. A background has to be something with coherency and boundaries.

I want steampunk to be just that and you can easily mix western with steampunk. But if you add magic, monsters and aliens you are doing everything and allthough that can lead to great miniatures, and i might buy some, the setting is too much all over the place for me.

I also find some of the models amazing, especially the train. But it is expensive and i don't know anyone who is even considering playing it.

Allthough i play a lot of games, I am afraid WWX will not be added to that list.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Additional: Dystopian Legions for instance is a type of setting that is a bit comparable, but MUCH more coherent. A very well written background.

I have a few DL miniatures and models, great models, good value for money. Just enough to be able to play it (not more, not less).
The game mechanics are not my cup-of-tea though. Not bad, but i rather play real model-level-skirmish and not unit-level skirmish.

And DL is 32 mm, also a different size, just as WWX is.
And just as stated in regard to WWX, that seems a strange choice, otherwise the models could be used for other game systems that have more players.

I really like the concept art for this game, but something about the final product just makes me go meh. Why don't I want it?

I really liked the look and feel of the WWX line, but resin isn't my favorite (fragility and a hefty allergic reaction to super glue). So for now I've pledged for the starter set (Black Edition), but I'm really hoping for that $700k and $1m goal, would pledge probably for everything.

What I'm curious about is how well the WWX miniatures scale with the Brimstone miniatures, I've been looking on the internet for some scale shots, but haven't found anything yet. I might be willing to pick up multiple plastic starters if they are scale compatible (extra heroes/enemies).

The starter set pledge level is the exact same starter set you could go buy right now, rather than pledge for it and wait a year to receive it. The only differences are different cards (which they change the rules on constantly anyway) and a black cardboard box.

This whole Kickstarter feels bunk, to me. The last Kickstarter was only 2 years ago to actually *launch* the game, the models have been out barely more than a year for the existing 5 factions, and the releases in the meantime have been inconsistent. I can't see the justification for having new models for existing factions in this KS; those should just be releasing on a schedule for the existing player base.

I know that it currently contains the same stuff, I'm doing my part in getting everything in the line to plastic. I really want some WWX, but all that resin is stopping me from doing anything significant with it because anything beyond the starter set is in resin. Also, at later stretch goals the box would get some additional items, not forgetting the KS exclusive minis. When we get anywhere close to $700k I'll be upgrading at least to the Rebel + Greenhorn pledge...

What about the releases has been inconsistent? Quality, rules or release dates/windows? What I do find problematic is that 2nd Edition is already scheduled for 2016, that leaves very little time to 'enjoy' the rulebooks with the pledges...

Releases for existing factions creates interest from folks that don't want/play the new factions. As for a schedule, I suspect that WWX already has a release schedule for the next year (and a half), they can just stick this at the end of this. As we don't know the exact minis yet we don't know if these are due to an advancement in the storyline that ties in with the other factions or something else.

Both the HIPS and the resin miniatures I received from the first WWX KS were top notch quality. Can't say I mind too much if some of the characters stay as resin since we don't get any price reduction of them going plastic. WWX plastic models are multi-part, but they're not multi-pose so there's no added gain there either.

They're a fair amount larger.
