What is Warlord? Has anyone played this game, and can give me an idea if I should buy it or not?

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

I've known of people that play, but never played myself, nor do I have any customers that ever played on a regular basis. Best advice I'd give, is find a group that plays. I personally always hated buying a rules set, then having it sit for 10 years.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

I've played Warlord. It's a good game, with a lot to commend itself.Very quick and dirty review:
The figs are pretty neat, albeit of the generic fantasy variety. It's D10 based, with alternating activation (vs. IGOUGO), and can be played with as few figures as a dungeon crawl or as big as small armies (30 figs/side). The game is based on actions: any given figure (depending on their abilities) can move twice, move and attack, attack twice, move and cast a spell, etc. There's a heavy emphasis on characters (the type of leader figure determines the amount of grunts, uniques/solos/monster and adepts you can take), and an interesting mechanic balancing the individual figure (figures function independently, even within a unit) and teamwork (get allies within B2B of each other and the enemy and they confer bonuses to each other). There are distinct armies and mercenaries, but there's also an ability to form a 'free company' (basically, use whichever figs you like), or to even create your own units to support other models you have. My experience is that there are few truly useless units/figures, a few absurdly powerful ones (but not game breaking), and that magic tends to be helpful but not overpowering, and the game can be played without it at all.
My biggest complaint is actually the opposite of the 40k phenom; it's too well supported. They seem to be constantly changing or revising the rules for the armies, to the point where the most recent rulebook is already out of date, less than 2 years after its release.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.
I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil |

They are, but not the whole rulebook; you still need that.

I was talking to a FLGS owner who said that Reaper is #2 in sales volume after GW.
I like the outline of the rules as you describe them syr. Sounds like a lot of the concepts that I think GW is missing out on. I particularly like the "two action" system. In the rules I'm developing I actually used four actions per activation for a little finer control, but two works. DnD uses two and it's very flexible.

I started to buy Reaper figs, but stopped realizing that I got depressed trying to make one figure look nice. In the same amount of time that it took me to screw up a cool individual model i could be screwing up five or six models assembly line style.
Too bad, though. I really liked their stuff.
