Scott Simpson won the GD with Tau. One of the best Tau players I have ever played and known.

Winning with Tau is impressive. They're a solid list in any one game, but over the long haul they tend to have games where rolls go bad and they suffer.
Do you have the list he used?

going off a picture I have of the army...
2 Fusion Piranhas
2 Railheads with SMS 1 squad of 4 gun drones
30 firewarriors (5 squads of 6)
2 2 man fireknife teams, leader with TA
1 monat fireknife with TA
2 HQs (shas'0?) that I don't understand (I didn't watch any of his games, I was too busy losing with my Farsight list...man I suck). They are modeled with Plasma, Missile, Flamer and Sheild generators Since they can't have all four I'm not sure what they actually are. probably Fireknife with shield generator.
No idea if he used any markerlights in the FW squads, though points wise from what I listed here he'd have room for a couple. I kind of doubt it, I'm probably just missing points elsewhere

According to some whiner at Warseer, the tournament *gasp* had more terrain than usual! There was ~40% terrain instead of a no-man's land deal (he was mad that his shooty DA couldn't instawin I guess) but I don't know why this list would beat Nidzilla in such an environment. Guess the suits just abused J-S-J while the firewarriors...uh, covered fire lanes I guess.

Terrain depended on your board.
Lava boards - depends on if you played lava as 5+ cover, difficult. w/o lava as cover (~20-25% terrain). w/ lava as cover (~35-40% terrain)
Woods/Hills boards - (~25% terrain)
Woods/Hills w/ Crater boards - it really depended on how you handled craters. If craters are included as terrain, then you were looking at 45-50% terrain on the board. No craters (~25%).
Terrain is a catch 22. Some armies excel with lots of terrain. Others obviously excel with open fields and a lot of clear firing lanes.

Nice, Scott played my friend in the 4th round of the GT, and I got to watch since I got my 4th game done quite a bit early... Anyway, from what I saw he played very well, though he lost (my friend played Nidzilla).

I think some of the woods/craters tables had even more than 25% terrain, without the craters. In my third game my opponent and I removed a huge hill from the board on mutual agreement. But most were closer to 25%, like the table for my game 1 against Inquisitor Malice. Of course people are going to whine though, no matter what the terrain layout is . I should have whined, maybe I would have done better.

I spoke with all the judges prior to my first game and they said the only thing the lava was supposed to do was count as difficult terrain for movement... so no cover saves. - G

In my last game my opponent asked if the lava gave a cover save, I said sure why not. 6 fire dragons shot 5 marines, hit 5 times, wounded 5 times and he made 5 saves!!! Bad call on my part wasn't it :p
Tournament overall was fun, i need more play time against Nids. Allen Hernandez's devourer flyrant sent my harlequins packing, otherwise I think eldar would have won the tourny :p
