Subject: Price 'adjustment' coming for Australia and New Zealand...

The cavalcade of good news from GW just keeps coming with a price increase set to hit, I think, in September. The core boxes, like Tac Squads and whatnot, are all staying the same, but we're getting significant jumps on everything that's more expensive than them. Some choice items are: Leman Russ Demolisher - Was AUD$75 but will now be AUD$85. Land Raider Crusader - Was AUD$95 but will now be AUD$105. Grey Knight Terminators - Were AUD$85 but will now be AUD$95. There are other crazy things, like AUD$75 for a box of Raptors. Hilariously things that aren't even out yet have been given a price rise, such as the Space Marine Masters of the Chapter. They've gone from up AUD$5 and they're not even out yet!!! Blisters aren't going up. As usual, there's simply no justification for this kind of price leap and is just another argument for not buying GW's crap from this country and getting it all overseas. Wow. I assumed it would be going in the other direction given how much flak GW's been taking for their discriminatory pricing patterns designed to single out people in non-UK Commonwealth countries.
Maybe Tom Kirby is a rabid anti-monarchist, and he's trying to use price-discrimination as a way to make Canada and Australia give up the Queen?
It's the only explanation that makes sense.

Ouch. H.B.M.C., does this apply to anything over the basic troop cost (so all tanks ect)? And will it also apply to things under 50$? Thanks for the heads up BTW.

Oh well I don't mind. Don't know how much $10 Aus is worth but it doesn't sound a lot maybe a fiver? Not going to moan over £5 i'm afraid.

Aren't the kiwi and Aussie dollars going through the roof? Shouldn't your prices be going DOWN?

A big point to remember is there's no good reason to up the prices here. The Aus dollar has been getting stronger of late, and our GW products are already overpriced. With the price hike it is cheaper to order in a box of Grey Knight Terminators from the US with $20 for shipping than it is to walk down to my local store. If you decide to buy an entire army your shipping is only going to go up to 40-50 dollars, giving you a sizable discount. Plus you can do all your bitz ordering while you're at it. The only reason I'm not complaining is because I don't buy anything from Aus anymore and just order it all in, except for the the odd codex and paint.

Once the price rise hits, buying from the US will be almost the same as buying from here with a staff 50% discount. BYE

Wasn't Australia and New Zealand GW's only growth market in the last annual report? GW are oviously fixing this 'problem' and aligning sales with the rest of the world.

The new Space Marine Company box is supposed to retail at $800 Australian. If I were to order it from the US it'd be $560 Australian before shipping.
This is crazy.

I truly believe that many of GW's problems are due to the lack of communication within corporate branches. From my dealings with GW Canada, GW's local head offices set policy for their own regions and not according to any type of structured plan from GW UK. This alows for all sorts of wierdness since each region sets its own prices according to their regional profit/loss forecasts (and some sort of business plan... although that would probably be too much to hope.) This is how we get some Canadian prices that are nearing 100% more expensive than in the US. As well, we get super-intelligent decisions like taking the Conflict system, and replacing it with "Super-mini-grand tournaments in Canada. The WHFB and WH40k tournies are on different days - crammed into the Oakville bunker over the course of a few weekends. GW's isn't listed as an exhibitor at Toronto Fan Expo either (but then again, it -is- a horrible convention, gaming or not). This problem doesn't seem to be limited to just the regional offices. You get all sorts of inconsistent work coming out of the design studio. Its pretty obvious that 40k has mostly lost its way - with no coherent leadership. The shortcomings of the Chaos codex are painfully evident next to the glowing reviews that Appocalypse has recieved. The Appocalypse splash releases would be great motivators to start new armies... if only the ones in Canada didn't cost the same as buying at regular MSRP from the US. To an outsider, Fantasy seems to have a clear direction, and LOTR still seems to be drawing disproportionate time and resources from the design team(s). Customer service, and front line employees do a great job of listening to customers, and are largely able to affect minor change in terms of events, and services offered - a big thanks to guys like Dave Taylor and the local Blackshirts - but anything that needs to be pushed up the ladder just seems to be thrown into the cabinet labelled recycle - by upper management. I've heard local FLGS owners complain that even the distribution managers are powerless to effect any change in GW's regional policy. Meanwhile, Kirby mostly seems to have his head firmly planted in his arse - and doesn't seem to talk to anyone other than the share-holders. The man doesn't seem to have any clue as to why his whole business is sinking around him. I'm sure that if the different regions got together once in a while and talked with each other, you'd get some more coherent action out of the company.

I'm too lazy to add this to the above post - but I'm sure that sales generated by GWUS mail-order from disgruntled international patrons will be construed as "Sucess in GWUS marketing" and not as "Failure of -insert region here- pricing scheme"... just like how people leaving the game will not be construed as "Failure of Design Team" but rather "Failure of GW sales teams/retail outlets".
Sad really.

Is this price rise the last hike to bring Oz in line with elsewhere, or the first of a new set of hikes worldwide?
